but before that! rudimentary height chart!

all i know rn is Mairy - the cow - is about the same height as Howdy/Barnaby/Poppy (around 8ft), Hettie & Daisy are in the Wally/Julie/Sally category (around 3ft), and Jesterly is more Frank/Eddie (around 4ft). Derry Drake is fuckoff huge, and Casey is... idk really. tall but not That tall

Mairy Love - she/her - lesbian a gorgeous white/blue cow! originally she was gonna be pink/white, but blue/white is my favorite color combo and honestly? it's dairy colors to me. she's big! she's strong! she's very gentle and sweet but also takes shit from no one, even though she doesn't like confrontation much (unless its playful roughhousing! jokes fly completely over her head! i'm thinking she tends to a lovely orchard of various fruit trees, and probably cultivates some crops for fun as well. maybe seasonal ones? pumpkins for the spooky season, fir trees for those snowy days, etc.

Casey J. Mittens - he/him - aro this orange fella is scaredy cat central! unfortunately for him, he's also curious to a fault! curiosity killed the cat, and he fears the day that rings true for him! he'd rather curl up at home or in a cozy tree, crocheting something cute from one of his many balls of yarn than do anything else. he tries to be a voice of reason, but is too easily convinced otherwise. he's that friend who says "we shouldn't be doing this" as he wholeheartedly assists in the shenanigan in question.

Hettie (currently undecided) - she/her - bi true to her honeybee heritage, Hettie is a florist! she boasts an impressive array of flowers that she tends to like her life depends on it. she's always running around to make sure they're all getting the best care - and she's always checking in on her pals to make sure they're taken care of, too. she's a busy bee who wouldn't know a day's rest if it stung her on the ass! It takes a lot to make her mad, but everybody better watch out when her wings start buzzing

Daisy Hop - she/him - pan i actually created Daisy as a supplementary character for a certain au, but realized i could find a place for her in this little group. i'm thinking he runs a little shop - a roadside stall, more like - where she can both sell her own homemade candy & his friends' stuff! she's the only one in the group that can keep up with Hettie's energy, and even surpass it at times. though unlike Hettie, Daisy knows how to take (and appreciate) a break!

Jesterly - whatever/is/funniest - Derry a menace. they love pranks above all else, oftentimes at the expense of others. he's always up to something and is never not scheming something! there's always Someone to bother! in all honesty she's more like an annoying stray cat that no one can get rid of... and they better not try, or they'll face the wrath of this fool's Very large partner! The jester's cap never comes off, and neither does the mask!

Derry Drake - they/them - Jesterly there's no sugarcoating it - Derry is a big lazy grump! it's almost impossible to get them out of their cave, or off of any place they decide to nap. the only thing that can reliably get them moving is the promise - or prospect - of food. it's a wonder how they've accumulated such a hoard of random things in the back of their cave, seeing as they rarely get up at all. they're incredibly nearsighted and bite first, ask questions later - after all, who knows if the colorful blob in front of them is food or not! better to be safe than hungry!

currently in my mind they have their own little community deep in the woods. Daisy lives in a modified burrow, Maisy has a cute farmhouse, Casey lives in a cozy treehouse, Hettie has a small cottage, and Derry & Jesterly live in a cave. within their community, they share practically everything. want a snack? pluck something from the orchard. need a new pair of mittens? ask Casey! i suppose you could say they're communists <3 (except for Daisy. she won't charge his friends, but anyone else is free game)

Mairy and Hettie have romantic tension, Daisy and Derry are the only ones who can tolerate Jes, Mairy wants Jes dead, Casey is terrified of Derry, Daisy's rapid-fire speech confuses everyone but Hettie, etc. i should make a chart for funsies...

omg thank you SO MUCH for asking and i apologize in advance for the infodump because i have been thinking about these alien plant people for literal years now, i love them so much. I first started thinking about these guys a little after TFA, because of an oc i was working on for a lil star wars fic that i have mostly abandoned by now--so sorry to the like 3 people who were reading my sidon ithano fic but tlj/tros really killed whatever passion i had for the franchise for a good long time :/ but Mando is great so i've been thinking about them'st again...

anyway i am sticking this under a cut because a) im very attached to these characters and if someone steals my shit i will kermit and b) sweet jesus this got so long, i am so sorry

in the SW universe at least, these plant people (that i still for the life of me cannot settle on an actual name for) were the primary inhabitants of a dwarf planet way out in wild space; they had a pretty symbiotic relationship with a race of sentient insectoid people (basically human-sized bees) who could travel between the planet and their home on one of its three moons (affectionately called the Honey Moon). what the plants didn’t know was that the bees were also able to travel to different planets, and had been doing so for a couple centuries before everything went to shit--but we’ll get to that in a bit.

the plant people weren’t particularly interested in the galaxy around them--they had a decent understanding of astronomy and cosmology, but little cultural interest in journeying to the stars. since the planet was pretty small and distant from the galactic core, it was pretty rare that a visiting ship would even pass them by, and scanners didn’t register them as genuine life-forms separate from the natural flora, so even if someone happened to end up out there it’s not the sort of place anyone would really choose to land. on rare occasions, a pirate or smuggler would try to hide out on what they thought to be an unoccupied planet, and would return to the Outer Rim with tales of mobile, sentient trees and bizarre, organic cities found on some uncharted world; likewise, occasionally a plant person would turn up at the local bar with tales of crashed space-ships and strange aliens that seemed almost like people. neither would ever be taken seriously.

the plants aren’t a particularly verbal people. they understand spoken language (a somewhat-modified Basic, at least, which is what the bees speak hmm i wonder where they picked that up from) and many can talk, but most don’t really bother learning to do so. mostly they rely on an ESP-like combo of pheromones and body language, highly attuned to the point that it’s essentially a kind of telepathy. i think i mentioned in the tags on that post that my character Antheia is sorta kinda a jedi? for these people, force sensitivity tends to manifest as an extra-extra-sensory-perception that causes you to be hyperaware of every living thing in your environment, not just the other sentient ones.

this made her uhhh extremely off-putting as a youth, easily distractable and often disinterested in the other people in the small community she grew up in, where she was already pretty disliked to begin with. there’s quite a lot of diversity among the plant people (a wide variety of skin tones/textures and body types, though few if any secondary sex characteristics; four limbs are most common, though occasionally some have two or more sets of arms; different types of leaves/vines/blossoms/etc in lieu of hair), and though they have a barter-based economy there’s still a lot of classism that’s mostly based around lineage (and thus evinced by one’s appearance and the traits one manifests). to protect (or attempt to bolster) those lineages, prospective parents can apply for a spot in a nursery, where their offspring are propagated and tended--mostly just through infancy before going to live with parents, though sometimes longer, and the very high class have private nurseries that will do all the rearing so they don’t have to.

But, on very rare occasions, certain wild plants will spontaneously develop sentience, and even more rarely will survive on their own long enough to find their way to a community. Hundreds of years ago (or “before the bees could speak”, which is their version of “once upon a time”), these spontaneous growths were revered and cherished, and whoever was first to encounter one would see it as a great honor to be responsible for their care and upbringing. now, with a much more striated society, these “weeds” (derogatory) are considered inferior, feral, dangerous. fortunately for Antheia, the man who found her, tangled in marsh reeds under the light of the Honey Moon, didn’t buy into any of that bullshit. he was a really sweet dad, very attentive and doting on his increasingly-strange adopted daughter; they were very close. but the older she got, the more her unusual ability developed, and the more he realized he was well out of his depth to help her understand that part of herself. eventually, she’s sent away to a kind of temple/convent for other people like her, where she’s trained to hone and control her extra senses, rather than be overwhelmed by them.

many years later, the sudden appearance of several large starships in their atmosphere turns their society on its head. it turns out, the bee-people have been traveling to other planets, forging alliances, brokering deals; they claim they just want to facilitate inter-planetary trade. Antheia is among the first to mistrust these invading aliens and their fleet of well-armed droids who seem hell-bent on mining their planet (which is, apparently, rich with cortosis, which--thank you wookiepedia--is apparently capable of repelling lightsabers and blasterfire alike). She flees her convent, joins up with an underground network of resistance fighters, discovers that her hyperawareness makes her a truly formidable force on the battlefield, and helps lead her people in defending the sovereignty of their home. And then things take a turn for the worse...but we don’t need to get into that right now.

ANYWAY.

my other oc, Shoal, is from the same planet but not even remotely star-warsy; either from a different time period well before the droid incursion, or just like an AU of my own stuff, idk. but she’s great, i love her deeply even though i dont really know what i even want to do with her yet. i mostly just was thinking about what a normal, average person in this world would be like, but then i got too attached. she’s also one of the spontaneous “weeds”, a semi-aquatic plant girl that washed up on a sandbar that occasionally connects a small island with the mainland when the tide is out. she was sort of “found” by multiple people at the same time, since they were making their way across to go trade goods at the mainland market, so to avoid the confusion of who should be responsible for her, she’s just sort of raised by the village as a whole. they name her Shoal, since that’s where they found her (it started as a joke, but then no one could agree on anything else to call her so it just sort of...stuck).

she grows up without realizing that it’s a pretty unusual upbringing. as a teen, she gains the reputation for the island’s best fisher (it helps that she can breathe as well underwater as above, and she’s always been a good swimmer). one thing that’s pretty consistent among all the plant people are their teeth--they all have long, sharp incisors and canines because sexy and also as more of a defense mechanism than a dietary one. they don’t eat much, typically absorbing nutrients from the sun/water/air/soil (mud baths are such a beloved experience, like for the most part they are very dignified people but find them some good mud and they will wallow for days) but when they do it’s pretty meat-heavy. they don’t really enjoy the process of eating very much, especially because they don’t have much gut bacteria so they typically have to swallow some stones to break up their food and nobody wants to do all that. but, at least in the coastal towns near where Shoal grew up, fresh-caught fish is considered a delicacy, and they can trade for quite a lot in return.

as she gets older, though, she starts getting restless. she loves her village, but it’s all she’s ever really known. also, it is so hard to even consider dating when literally everyone your age is practically your sibling, i mean, yeesh. so one day she just packs her bags and says her goodbyes and waits for low tide, then sets off to find her own way in the great wide world. she stops wherever she can, sees everything she can, but eventually settles down working at a tavern in a medium-sized town that’s mostly acclaimed for being a crossroads between bigger and better places. she likes it there, likes getting to know lots of new people and hearing about someone else’s travels more than she actually liked traveling herself. after a few years, the tavern-keeper retires and decides to leave the place to her, and she finds she’s become a permanent fixture in this new community. that’s really all i have for her so far, and i have no idea whether i’ll ever actually do anything with this character lol, but still she is very precious to me so i hope i find a story she’d be a good match for sometime soon.

Avengers x OC Reader Katya Ivankov …Relationship development later

Summary: New “recruit” brought in by Fury, too bad she’s got history with several Avengers and it’s not a happy reunion. How’s this going to go? We’ll have to see.

For the next 2 days you only came out of your room in the middle of the night after asking F.R.I.D.A.Y. if anyone else was out of their room. When she alerted you that the coast was clear you would make your way up to Floor 6, the one above you. Your floor had a bathroom and a small counter with a sink and a microwave near the Gym but no actual kitchen. So you would sneak up and snag a couple granola bars and make yourself a sandwich using the ingredients that didn’t have a name on it. 

You weren’t exactly sure how the community kitchen thing worked yet, but you could see in the pantry there was a shelf for each member with their name on it. Thor had a shelf full of Twinkies and coffee. Sam had several different types of protein powders and bars. Steve just had a couple different types of cereals and flavored oatmeal. Bucky and Natasha had nothing on their shelves. Aw how cute they match, puke. And Clint has poptarts, doughnuts, and pickles. Wanda had some boxes of expensive looking chocolates and Tony of course has liquor on his shelf. You didn’t have a shelf yet. Figured this was probably a system set up a while back by the team itself.

You’ll have to ask Maria tomorrow how the shopping and groceries thing works so you can get some more food. The last thing you need is someone waking up and walking in on you raiding their food. Their first impression of you wasn’t exactly welcoming. You wouldn’t even call it an introduction because no one but fucking Nat and Clint and you really talked. Not that you wanted to sit around a campfire and sing Koombaya or anything, but handshakes and a hello would have been nice. A sound pulled you from your thoughts and you grabbed your food and ran down the hall to the stairwell and shut the door behind you slowly so it wouldn’t alert anyone that you were there.

Day 3, well morning 3 actually. There was a knock at your door at 7am. You mumbled “What!” The door opened and Steve McTightshirt stepped in looking towards the bed where he assumed to find you. Then he panned the room to find you sitting cross legged in the corner with a pillow against the wall and a blanket next to you. You were fully dressed already. He didn’t need to know you only had 2 changes of clothes so you slept in these. “Hey, good morning. Um is everything alright” he tilted his head. “Peachy keen, why” you replied. What’s wrong with the bed?” he thumbed at it like you didn’t know what he meant by bed. “Oh you know, just not being where I’m expected to be in case anyone decides to give me a Columbian necktie in my sleep” you smirked. “No one’s going to do that or anything else to you, I promise” he tried to reassure you. You simply let out a small chuckle. “Look, we are all having breakfast upstairs and we think it’s time you come and join us. You don’t need to stay holed up in here all day” he offered. “No thanks, I’m fine” you replied just as your stomach decided to betray you and let out the call of the wild. He ran his hand over his face trying to hide his laugh “I’m not taking no for an answer so get up.”

You got up and waited for him to turn around to leave before you moved. You followed him a few steps behind and to the right all the way to the elevator. As the door opened he turned to let you get in first “I assume you want to keep me in your sights.” You acknowledged by entering while never turning your back to him, and rested against the back corner of the elevator. He entered and selected the 6th floor. He stared at the closed doors and he made no movements. Not his first rodeo you assumed. The doors opened and your nose was assaulted with the delicious smells of bacon, eggs, toast, bacon, syrup, and bacon. Steve exited the elevator and walked into the kitchen and open dining area. You followed the same as before. There was lots of chatter amongst the group, until you walked in. All eyes fell on you and made you stop in your tracks.

You must’ve looked like a deer in headlights because Wanda jumped out of her seat and walked over to you “Good morning Katya. We’re so glad you decided to join us.” She held up her arms as if she was going to hug you but you held out your hand for a handshake instead, stopping her from coming any closer. “Ok” she said apprehensively. “Well come have some food with us. Break bread” she smiled. She returned to her seat between Sam and Bruce. Barnes was in the back of the room again sitting on the bench of the bay window. Tony was at the head of the table of course, sipping on his coffee. He nodded in your direction. Steve stood at the counter and pulled a glass from the cabinet and a mug from the mug rack. He turned and held up both, “Coffee or juice?” “Coffee please” you spoke just above a whisper.

You took the seat by the far right side wall and Sam asked “Is that like an assassin thing, sitting with your back to the wall?” “Something like that” you smiled half-heartedly. You heard a huff from the window but didn’t look his way. “Well dig in before Steve eats this all himself” Sam laughed hitting Steve on the arm. “He’s not lying” Steve put his arms up in surrender. Everyone laughed so you reached in and started adding food to your plate.

Just as you took your first bite, “So I can’t find you anywhere before 3 weeks ago Miss Ivankov. Mind telling me why you have no digital or paper trail?” Tony leaned in. “Jesus Tony let her have one meal before you start interrogating her” Steve yelled at him while Wanda threw a grape at him. “Well I’m sorry that I want to know who this mystery person, and assassin as Sam pointed out, is that is staying a few hundred feet away from where we sleep!” he held his hand to his chest in defense of his actions. “It’s fine” you interrupted before they started throwing forks. “My information isn’t available because my previous employers weren’t too great at keeping all their records. And what there was to find, I deleted” you continued. “What do you mean you deleted?” Stark asked. “Deleted. It’s a verb, means to strike out or remove; cancel; erase; expunge” you explained as you bit into some bacon. Sam and Steve snickered. “I guess I meant HOW smartass” Tony sighed. “I went into the interweb thingy and I hit delete, delete, delete” you grinned ear to ear at him. “Geez Stark I even understood that” Barnes spoke up from his window seat. You looked back at him and he shot you a quick smile, but it faltered as quickly as it happened. The table was all in giggles now as Natasha walked in to the kitchen “What’s so funny?”

“Just giving Tony a hard time” Sam replied. “Hey I thought that was my job” she joked but her smile turned into a glare once she walked in far enough to see me. She paused for a moment then walked over to the window seat and smacked at Barnes legs to which he moved them and she sat next to him. “Breakfast?” Sam pointed to the food. “No thanks, I lost my appetite”. You didn’t look at her but you could feel her eyes on you. “Where’s Clint this morning” Wanda asked her. Natasha looked at her and smiled “He went h…”she stopped, dropped her smile, then finished, ”he went to visit some people for a week” she nodded her head to Wanda to imply it was a secret. Everyone just said “Oh” and went about their eating.

“So no Thor either” I asked Steve. “No he went home to Asgard. He’ll be there till we need him. Or when he decides to come raid his Twinkie stash” they all laughed. You glanced over to the window seat to see her whisper something to Barnes to which he smiled and then she took a piece of his toast off his plate and started eating it. Your stomach decided you had enough, of the food and the company, “please excuse me, and thank you for breakfast.” You walked through the kitchen to retreat back to your room. Steve caught up to you at the elevator “You don’t have to leave just because she’s here. Stay, we’re going to watch a movie later.” “It’s not just her. I just… It’s going to take time for the adjustment. Maybe another time” you attempted a smile but from the look on his face, you were unable to fake it. “Alright, but you’re coming up for dinner too ok!” he pointed at you as he turned around and walked away, not letting you protest.

You sighed once alone in the elevator “Another day in paradise.”
