Here I am, in the back of my best friends, Kaiden, car with my legs spread wide open. “Kaiden..” Him blowing on my opening make my talking come to halt as I threw my head back. I felt soft wet kisses along my second set of lips and that alone had me letting out low moans.

When I felt like I had enough strength, I pressed my palm against his forehead and managed to get him to lift his head. Kaiden gazed up at me looking high as hell. “Whats up Rose?” I loved when he called me by my middle name and just that fast, I had forgot what I wanted to say. I shook my head and motioned for him to continue.

“Lon! There yall are, oouu..” That was my beautiful, sassy, and hotheaded sister Loryn. She gave Kaiden and I the meanest glare. ”Well thanks for disappearing, had me thinking yall left a bitch for dead.” The fact that my sister really thought I would just leave her high and dry is ridiculous.

She rolled her eyes and walked past us to the car. We followed her without caring to respond and thankful for her not questioning us. Silence filled the car as Kaiden drove us back home. My mind was racing and thinking about millions and one things. “Kaiden can we please stop to get something to eat? Please?” was the last thing I heard before I leaned against the window and closed my eyes.

The next morning I woke up with the worst headache. I noticed that it was two pills and a bottle of water on the nightstand and I silently thanked whoever placed them there. Sitting up I threw the pills back and washed them down with the water. I groaned lightly and sluggishly made my way to the bathroom.

I looked myself over in the mirror and shook my head with a wide grin on my face. I dont remember a lot from last night but I do remember the most important memory, getting head from Kaiden for the fist time. Shaking my head, I quickly did my hygiene.

“LoLo?” I heard a soft knock before the door opened. Every one of my sisters had a different nickname for me and vise versa. “You good? I heard yall was white boy wasted last night.” Lolani let out a small giggle and jumped up on the counter. I continued on with my morning routine and moisturized my face. “Please dont remind me.” I rolled my eyes and watched as she raised one brow. “I’ll go into detail later.”

She gave me a small nod and kissed my cheek before jumping down. “Oh yeah, can you cook breakfast please? Mommy went in early.” Our mom works her ass off twice as hard every since our father just up and left us. Said he couldnt afford two sets of twin daughters.

We both walked out the bathroom together and ended up meeting Loryn and Leilani in the kitchen. Loryn and I exchanged looks that made us both burst out into laughter. My cheeks were blushing red. The girls looked on at us like we had lost our damn mind. “Ok ok, spills the beans LoLo.”

“Wait until we’re all sitting down and eating.” I turned to the counter to see that this fat ass hoes had all the food laid out for me. I thank them for that but damn, who in the hell do they think is cooking all of this? Oh, thats right, me. I rolled my eyes at them and went to wash my hands at the sink.

“On a serious note, hows the job search going? Yall know we gotta at least try to help mama out.” I announced when I finally got myself together. About a week ago we had a sit down together as the FabFour, something our mom started calling us as she watched us bond, to start pitching in with the bills. Dont get me wrong my mama make good money but its the least we can do.

“I got a interview at the call center, Sykes. The only bad thing is that they do drug test.” Leilani is a huge pothead. This girl cant go a day without smoking a blunt. “And please dont forget to ask your manager about my application.” “Oh shit, thank you for reminding me. I work tomorrow.”

I sprayed down the pans and placed them on the stove. Cracking the eggs I added in the seasonings while looking over at Lolani. She was the youngest and most sensitive. She was watching me with the biggest smile on her face. “What?” I couldn’t help the smile that rose to my lips. “My professor offered me a job to intern in a pastry shop.”

She was so soft spoken and looked so innocent knowing damn well she wasnt. “I’ll be making good money and its guaranteed that I’ll have an official spot when I graduate college.” I couldn’t be more proud of her. “Thats my girl.” I responded with the same smile on my face.

“The grand opening for my shop is two weeks away.” Loryn chimed in next. She was overly excited about her natural hair shop and of course I couldn’t be more proud of my twin.  She’s been working day and night for this. “I really need yall to be there, it’ll mean the world to me.” Here she goes.

“Why on earth wouldnt we be there? We wouldnt dare miss our sisters big day.” Leilani had to reassure her while Lolani and I nodded in agreement. The smile on Loryns face was bout big as I dont know what.

And as for me, Im a nurse. Looking after older and younger paitents, making sure they’re eating and excersing right. I also work at a retail store called Ollies Bargain Outlet. The managers are a pain in the ass and the coworkers love to kiss ass. I couldnt stand working there but its a job thats paying.

It took me about half an hour to finish breakfast. It looked like I fixed enough for a damn tribe but I mean it when I say that it’ll all be eaten. When we were all sitting down with full plates and our drinks, we looked around for someone to come forward and say prayer. When no one spoke up I sighed and bowed my head.

“Lord,” by this time they follwed my actions. “thank you for this food that we are about to recieve, I ask that you bless and nuture it. In Jesus name I pray, amen.” The repeated after me and no words were said after that. All you could hear was forks hitting plates and smacking here and there. “So, spill the beans.” Damn, I couldnt get anything pass these sisters of mine.

Walking inside the club lastnight with Loryn beside me, I scanned the place for Kaiden and his crew. He asked me to come out and have fun with them and I happily agreed. “You see them?” I leaned into her so she could hear me better.

She scanned around and took my hand leading me towards some stairs. Once Kaiden noticed us he started grinning and met us halfway at the rope. He unlocked it and welcomed us in. “Yall look good.” He bent down to hug us and handed us a shot. I looked at it sceptacal as Loryn took hers to the head.

“Its Vodka.” “Its white.” I fired back. Everybody knows I dont mess with white liquor, only brown. Kaiden tried to roll his eyes in the most manliest way and picked up another shot. “C’mon. I’ll take it wit you Rose.” Counting to three in my head I quickly threw the shot back and screwed my face after it burned my throat.  “It aint even that bad, stop acting.” I flicked him off as we both laughed.

We had to only be here for about twenty minutes and Kaiden had me damn near drunk. He had finally got shots of my liking and I was gladly throwing them back. Loryn had went to the dance floor with Ace, one of Kiadens best homies.

“Just one more shot then we can be done!” I screamed over the music. I handed him a shot and we clung the glasses together before taking it. The seductive music, the lights and shots had me feeling just right. I watched as Kaiden licked over his lips as he placed his our glasses on the counter and turned to look down at me.

I couldnt help the dirty thoughts that came to mind as I gave his face a good overlook. His pink juicy lips. Oh how I would just love to have them around my clit.. “Yo, you aight?” He had his hand on the lower part of my back while looking very concerned.

“Your lips.. I need them wrapped around my clit, like now!” He looked astonished by what came out of my mouth. He started to laugh but when he seen how I serious I was he stopped. “Lets go.” He clamped his hand inside of mine and led me down the stairs and out the of club..

“You litte floozy!” We all busted out in to laughter. “Did you feel weird after it after happened? Being that he is your best friend.” I played around with the left over food on my plate. “Of course I felt weird. I had to stop him at least three times last night.” My cheeks were right back red.

“Loryn how didnt you know?!” Lolani fired her way, I silently thanked her as she took the attention off of me. “Now just how was I suppose to know? I was too busy grinding all up on Ace fine ass.” I knew she had a thing of him. He was definetly her type. Tall, dark skinned and mean to the world but sweet to her.

“Ahhh both of yall fucking with the homies.” Leilani had this huge grin on her face. Loryn and I were quick to deny it though. “Im not fucking with Kai like that, he only ate me out and that was it. Would I do it again?” I scooted my chair out and gathered my trash as they waited for my answer.

“You damn right!”

I had received a text from Londyn around five this evening thanking me for a wonderful night and the medicine. We continued texting for a while before she finally asked me to come over so we could talk face to face. I knew what she wanted to discuss. To be honest I thought she was going to feel some type of way about what happened between us.

I was more shocked at myself. The fact that I gave her head last night was mind blowing. Normally Im the one coming onto the opposite sex but she was in control. Then on top of that I let her get away with just me eating her pussy. Nothing in return.

I agreed to coming over and went to freshen myself up. After getting dressed I grabbed everything I needed and sat in my car rolling a blunt. I was blasting the radio and tucked the blunt away when I was done. Backing out of my driveway I made my way down the street. Driving like a NASCAR driver.  

It felt like a mini road trip driving from my place to hers. But thats what the blunt was for, came in handy. When I pulled up in her driveway I seen that her moms car was parked in the yard. Seems like it just got a fresh wash. I aint even gon’ lie and say that I aint feel like a bitch when I pulled the visor down to check myself out in the mirror. “Fuck wrong witchu Kaiden?” I said aloud to myself.

I shot her a text telling her to come to the door once I finally got my shit together. When I seen the front door open she was standing there in some red booty shorts, almost like the ones in the movie Juno, a snug shirt that showed off her amazing curves and some ugg boots. As I got out the car I couldn’t hold my laugh back. “Whats so funny?” She asked once I finally got close to her. “You live in them boots huh?” I swiftly licked over my lips and looked down at her.

“Fuck you.” We quickly gave each other eye contact and then busted out laughing like some hyenas. “Shit could’ve happened. C’mon.” I motioned for her to her walk up the stairs before me to her room. I was ready to get some shit off my chest and Im pretty sure she wanted to do the same.

I threw myself on her bed and made sure I was comfortable after kicking my shoes off. “So before we really start talking things over, lets not forget about us being best friends first. I dont want anything to fuck up our friendship. Deal?” She was chewing on the corner of her bottom lip. Something she would do faithfully when she was nervous. I kissed my teeth at her.

“I done told you since the day be came best friends that this shit was real for me. I aint neva had no real friends nshit so I wouldnt do shit to jeopardize it, well not on purpose.” And I meant dat shit. The bond that we have is something I cherish. Ion know what the hell I would if Londyn stopped fucking wit me. My heart was lowkey racing now and I was thinking the complete worst.

She was the first person that made me open up when I moved out here. She wouldnt leave me alone at first and after a few months she made me a nigga feel welcome. “Kai? You hear me?”

“My bad, whatchu say again?” By now she had my attention as I seen the now annoyed look on her face. This girl hated repeating herself. “You better pay attention,” she just had to roll them damn eyes. “last night took me by surprise and I wont say that I never thought about it, but I dont think it can happen again.” Oh I was definitely all ears now.

I know my face said everything I was feeling. “Kaiden I just.. Im not what you’re use to. I-I catch feelings, I think about life long term and you’re not ready for that.” I gave her a long stare, right in her eyes. I dont even recall having a girl, let alone letting Londyn meet anyone so fuck she talking bout?

“How do you know what Im use to? Have I ever talked about a bitch to you? Ever met a bitch? Ever told you liked a bitch? And just how da hell you know what Im ready for Lon?” She sat there on hush mode. When she didnt utter a word I continued, “All throughout high school you were the only female I encountered with. I aint even look a bitch way cause I was too hung up on you.”

Her mouth dropped open and when she tried to talk I put my hand up to stop her. “I had to listen to you bitch and moan about niggas trying to fuck wit you and there I was, head over hills for yo ass. I mean, shit I had alot of dreams about us and you had to be drunk for part of my dreams to come true.”

I had to let out a chuckle with that last part. I mean Im glad that I finally got that shit off my chest but now I had to brace myself for the hardest part; hearing her response. She looked taken back, confused, couldn’t stop giving me this look, where she squint her eyes, open her mouth to speak and then close it looking away.

“You could’ve at least told me something Kaiden. Like, it didnt have to happen like this,” Her voice was very soft at the moment. “me drunk and completely in charge and then you.. I dont know. You should’ve said something!” She was letting out angry growls and launched towards me with her fist balled up.

“Chiiill Rose.” I couldn’t contain my laughing. I had a hold on her wrists while she was struggling to get loose. Once we had both calmed down nshit I got my thoughts together. Why didnt I say shit to her? Maybe cause her lil ass was too focused on them niggas that aint really give a shit about her. Or maybe it was ‘cause I aint wanna get rejected by my only friend.

The pink tax: The hidden cost of being female

Women working to achieve financial independence face an extra hurdle: the hidden cost of being female. Though its cheekily referred to as the pink tax, the additional cost women incur for personal-care products, toys, clothing, dry cleaning, health care, mortgages, and vehicle maintenance is no joking matter. It inflates our budgets, limits our ability to save, and sometimes hinders our ability to access affordable and safe sources of credit. Based on that semi-intense description of the pink tax, you may think its already been made illegal to charge someone more on the basis of their gender. But thats not true. Theres no federal law prohibiting companies from charging different prices for products that are identical (or very similar), but which are marketed by gender. At least not currently. Only one U.S. municipality Miami-Dade County has banned this practice. California enacted a similar restriction in 1995, but it applies only to the pricing of services. New York City followed in 1998. On top of the pink tax, women still earn less than their male counterparts. The average woman is paid 82 cents for every $1 her male colleagues earn; the discrepancy is much worse for women of color. When youre paying more for basic goods and services from birth until death just because youre female its easy to understand why so many women are pushing to Ax the Pink Tax.

What Is the Pink Tax? Twenty-five years ago, in 1994, the State of California studied the issue of gender-based pricing. They found women pay about $1300 more each year for the same services as men. Accounting for inflation, that figure is now closer to $2135 per year. If that figure doesnt shock you, maybe this will: By the time a woman turns 29 (like me), shell have spent an estimated $39,203 on the pink tax alone! Can you imagine how much money I could have right now if Id put the money I spent on the pink tax in a savings account? Especially one with compounded interest!? In 2015, the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) published a report on the pink tax entitled From Cradle to Cane: The Cost of Being a Female Consumer. The report found that womens products cost more than mens products 42 percent of the time. 42 percent! By comparison, mens products cost more than the female version 18 percent of the time. According to the DCA report, products for female consumers were likely to cost more across industries: Girls toys cost more 55 percent of the time, while boys toys cost more 8 percent of the time.Girls clothing cost more 26 percent of the time, while boys clothing cost more 7 percent of the time.Womens clothing cost more 40 percent of the time, while mens clothing cost more 32 percent of the time.Womens personal-care products (shampoo, conditioner, razors, lotion, deodorant, body wash, and shaving cream) cost more 56 percent of the time, while mens products cost more 13 percent of the time.Senior home health-care products (supports and braces, canes, compression socks, adult incontinence products, and digestive health products) cost more for women 45 percent of the time and cost more for men 13 percent of the time. Nowhere is the pink tax more evident than when it comes to personal-care products. Personal-care products geared toward women cost approximately 13 percent more than similar products marketed toward men. Similarly, women are financially penalized for having their menstrual cycle. The U.S. government has deemed menstrual products a luxury item despite the fact that menstrual cycles are a monthly reality for all women, not a luxury. For comparison: Prescription and non-prescription drugs and medical supplies are exempt from sales tax. This includes aspirin, DayQuil, ChapStick, gauze, Viagra, and condoms. But all hell breaks loose if an end to the tampon tax is proposed even though a study published by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists found that two out of three low-income women in the U.S. couldnt afford menstrual products at least once each year. The study also found that tax breaks on tampons are extremely beneficial for low-income women. Despite this growing body of research that it costs way more to live as a woman than a man, proposals to eliminate tampon taxes or other pink taxes dont get very far. In New York, where a tax on menstrual products was eliminated, the state has recorded a $14 million loss in tax revenue as a result. In California, former Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed a bill in 2016 that would have eliminated the states tampon tax for fear that the state would lose $20 million in annual taxes. The Pink Tax in Action What does the pink tax look like in action? At Target, a red Radio Flyer My 1st Scooter marketed at boys retailed for $24.99. The My 1st Scooter Sparkle, the same Radio Flyer but painted pink with glitter, retailed for $49.99.

Until, that is, the DCA study came out. When questioned about the price difference between the two Radio Flyer scooters, Target referred to the extra $25 cost of the pink scooter as a system error. The retailer now sells both scooters for $29.99. Even childrens short-sleeved uniform t-shirts showed a gender price difference, with boys tops retailing for $10.95, while girls tops retailed for $12.95. Anyone have a clue why the girl version costs $2 extra?

The gender-based price difference is even more blatant when it comes to adult clothing. Womens clothing costs more than mens clothing in six of seven categories! The only category where men pay more than women is underwear men typically pay $2.44 more for underwear than women. However, women are paying more than a $2.44 difference when it comes to dress pants, dress shirts, sweaters, jeans, shirts, and socks.

Its not just retailers though that pass along costs onto female consumers, for really no other reason than to boost their own bottom line. Its also service providers like dry cleaners and car repair shops that are guilty of charging women more than men. Suzanne McGee knows all too well the additional cost thats incurred when a female goes to the dry cleaners. Ive been hit with the pink tax again, she wrote in a column for The Guardian. I knew it was coming; I should have been prepared with better arguments. But I couldnt avoid itI ended up getting charged $7 for cleaning my female shirt and not the $3.25 a man would have been charged. To prove her theory, McGee had a male friend return to the dry cleaner with an identical shirt to see how much he would be charged to have the same plain, cotton, long-sleeved shirt dry cleaned. McGees male friend was charged just $3.25, while McGee had been charged $7 to dry-clean the same top. Mortgages, Cars, and Loans While its illegal for your gender to play a role in determining your mortgage rate, theres a slew of studies showing women pay higher mortgage rates than men in relation to their risk of defaulting. According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, because income was once a determining factor in ones ability to obtain credit, women were often denied as a result of earning less than men. A similar trend was found in the small loans market. Studies found that women were rejected more than men when applying for loans. When women were approved, they were given smaller loans, but because so many women feared being rejected, most didnt apply for loans in the first place, the Times reported. A similar occurrence happens in the auto industry. It sounds clich, but a study from Northwestern found that women who acted uninformed when asking about having a radiator replaced were charged more. Women were quoted at $406 for a service that should cost around $365. Men who acted unfamiliar with the repair, just as the women had done, were quoted $383 for the same service, the study found. No Evidence of Discrimination? In 2015, New York officials concluded that because the pink tax is largely unavoidable, its a greater financial burden for female consumers than for male consumer. Consumers dont control the textiles or ingredients used in the products marketed to them, the DCA report noted. Additionally, consumers can only make purchasing decisions based on whats available in the marketplace. However, a report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) concluded differently. Because there isnt a law preventing companies from charging different prices for men and womens versions of products, and companies have a legal right and responsibility to maximize profits, the GAO couldnt conclude the gender price disparity was unfair. The GAO even argued that its up to consumers to understand any price differences. I may have been able to let that ill-informed conclusion slide if they hadnt added this part: Concerns about gender discrimination were not studied due to very few complaints. Stop Paying the Pink Tax! Until the gender pay gap and gender tax are eliminated, is there anything we can do to try to level the playing field economically? To start, you can choose to purchase the mens version of many personal-care products in order to save money. Or, if youre like me and prefer to stick to feminine versions, many female-centric online retailers now offer pink tax-free personal-care products via subscription services. This way you can save money and still enjoy a pink razor. The other thing we can do is use our voices on social media especially to speak up. When youre shopping, check to see if theres a price difference between the womens and mens versions. If there is, look to see if the size and ingredients are comparable. If theyre the same, take a picture of both products and use the hashtag #AxThePinkTax. Some companies whove become aware of the price discrepancies of their own products have made changes to level the economic playing field.

Just do your job

More of a fuck these new co-workers story. I've been working at a crafty retail store for a little over a year now. I know where more than half of the stuff we sell goes by heart and they usually have me working the floor to put away the go-backs and recover the store before close. Its easy for me so I try not to complain much but I'm a little pissed today. A couple days ago they hired a new girl we'll call 'T'. T had worked at an overrated coffee shop before and doesn't seem to realise retail is a bit different. We usually only have 1 cashier at the front most days or 2-3 during rushes. On an expected normal night we will have 1 cashier, 1 manager, 1 sale associate, and 1 framer. So T's left at the front for most of the day. Usually the previous sales associates on the floor only recover the store so there is ahuge mountian of go backs when I come in for a closing shift. Im usually the only floor person so I had to work quickly to put everything back and still take care of the customers who stop me. T didn't seem to care. When she would call me up to help ring up customers she would just up and leave the cash register to do anything else. She would turn her light off and just walk out to the floor. Not for a bathroom break or anything like that. What pissed me off us that she did that shit every time she called me up. About 5-10 times during an average day. I told a manager about it, to ask if they could talk to them but nothing ever happens. Fast forward 3 days later, I come in for my closing shift at 2.30 just in time to see another new hire having her first training shift. We're gonna call her 'T2'. Now, T and T2 are high school buddies, so they stick together the moment T2 starts getting trained. So this sucked because T essentially taught T2 a quarter of the basics they taught her to fucking leave with her when I got to the front. Like shit. Since our go back area is by the register when I'm done with a cart I have to go back up to refill it and they would both leave. And T claimed it was so they can both get floor experience together. Except!! Except that T was hired as a goddamn cashier. And T2 was hired as a GODDAMN CASHIER. Meaning they both have little reason to have floor experience for go-backs because the manager who hired them said they were specifically hired to stay up front as cashiers. If a customer needs something they T or T2 dont know about all they have to do is radio a manager and 90% of the time they know or they call me or the manager up. This last night, both T and T2 were stuck at the front due to a line of customers. I was sent out to grab carts from the parking lot. When I had come back in, they whined that they wouldn't have time to take trash out from under the registers. I'd had gotten so pissed off I took all the trash bins from all 8 registers, brought them to my register, called the next in line and rang them out while I dumped all the trash into one big trash bag. Then, when the last few customers were being rang out while both girls stared at me like I killed a child, I told them to put new bags on the bins and put them back. I left to the managers office after that and complained that they didnt even have a method to throw the goddamn trash out. T had been working a little over a week. T2 has been working 6 days. So why they didnt have a goddamn method for trash is fucking unbelievable. Why it took me under 5 minutes to do when they had 4 hours is fucking bullshit. Mostly angry because they had complained the moment I came back from the hot parking lot dragging carts into the store. They yelled about it front of 15 customers who all looked like I was abusing them. It's literally a chore at home. My manager had agreed and when closing time came they both were told to leave early and they both looked like it came as a shock. Look, I have shit to do. I gotta do go-backs, clean up the aisles, and deal with customers and their more than often I-didnt-even-try-researching-before-i-got-here questions. Along with following around suspicious customers, following a big family of children because they ALWAYS leave a trail of messes, and doing exerting projects such as move 150, three pound candles across the store. With only 1 cart and an hour till close and only half an hour after close so I don't have time for this leaving bullshit. I don't have time for this 'we dont think we will have time for the trash chore' bullshit. I have no literal time to get fired for not doing my job because I was doing theirs. Fuck T and T2.

I know there are other factors such as smokers/obese people, lawsuits, and people who don't pay their bills. But i'm wondering if insurance companies are one of the biggest reasons to blame for the ridiculously high cost of medical services and equipment? The reason I wonder is because the prices of medical care are so ridiculously high, but it seems like doctors can simply charge any price they want, no matter how ridiculous, because the insurance company will simply pay it. Unlike if someone was actually paying out of pocket and would actually say your out of your mind for charging that much, you won't get my business . I mean, seriously, even if doctors charged $70 per hour, thats still a high wage for them, and it wouldn't be too unreasonable for an hour of medical work, yet I hear of doctors performing various simple procedures that take like 5-15 minutes and charging hundreds or possibly thousands of dollars. Same thing with medical equipment. It seems any device classified as a piece of medical equipment sells for 10 times what it should reasonably cost to make it. Any level headed person would say they are insane for charging that much. But insurance companies simply pay it, and pass the cost on to the people. Hey guys and gals, My wife was in a car accident on 10/8 driving our truck with liability only insurance (IE: not full coverage because the truck is only worth ~$3000 and it's paid for). She was turning right and had slowed down to turn (with her turn signal on) when a speeding truck slammed into the van behind her, ramming the van in to our truck. The police filed a report, in which the driver of the speeding truck (an 18 year old kid, that had just left his house less than 1/4 mile away) was determined to be at fault. It is worth note that this happened in front of two different auto body shops, and within sight of the house the at fault driver had just left. Their insurance company, state farm, finally contacted us on 11/8 after not returning our phone calls for nearly two weeks saying they had determined he was in fact at fault and would send an adjuster the following Monday. He came, inspected the truck, determined it was repairable, then said we would hear from their office later that day. When they called they told us the damage was more than 75% of the vehicles worth so it was considered total and they would send the required paperwork to my email address to begin payment. Within 3 hours, the claim agent we had talked to the previous Friday said an owner of one of the auto shops had came forward (all of a sudden, no mention of a witness before) and that he had a notarized statement saying the van struck our vehicle before the truck struck the van. The insurance company now will not pay us for the damages. We tried to call the witness and get a copy of his report because State Farm would not give us the copy. Then we called the other auto body shop and both the owner and one of his employees both seen the accident and say that the truck was at fault, and the owner overheard the driver say specifically that it was his fault. When we bring this to the agents attention, she claims this is not evidence because they know the at fault driver. We found out that the first witness also knows the driver, but can't prove it. Ours is a small town, you don't have neighbors that you don't know or speak to. It seems we are at an impasse, and I have been without a truck for nearly 6 weeks. What should I do in this instance? Get an attorney? Our insurance agency is adamant about not intervening since we did not have full coverage insurance. It may be worth noting that my wife has had back and neck pain since the accident and went to the hospital the day of the accident, the family doctor twice since, and has an appointment with a chiropractor next week (all of which our insurance has paid for.)""

Seven unexpected things Amazon’s Alexa can do for you

When Amazons Echo hit the market, it was basically just a voice-operated speaker. Dont get me wrongit was an attractive piece of technology and it responded well to voice commands, but a lot of people ended up with an Echo asked Alexa a few basic questions, like: What time is it? Whats the weather report for Saturday? And that was it.

Heres the question I get over and over again: What else can Alexa do?

The answer is: Much more than just take commands. New apps and devices are becoming Echo-friendly, and the little tower is behaving less like a smart speaker and more like a digital assistant. You can arrange schedules, coordinate your entertainment center in several rooms and even operate appliances all without lifting a finger.

Many of these activities will require special equipment and a little time to link them through Bluetooth, but once you do, Alexas wireless sorcery is bound to astound you.

1. Voicecast

Youre listening to a podcast in the living room, right next to your Echo. Then you realize you need something from the garage. You dont want to lose the flow, so you pick up a compatible device. Alexa, send that to my Fire tablet, you say. Now your podcast is portable.

Of course, this process also works with Echo Dot, which is its own speaker system and can be placed in multiple rooms.

2. Find your lost phone

No matter how many cushions you rip out of your sofa, you just cant find your phone. How can you tell your spouse to pick up milk on the way home? Say Alexa, trigger find my phone, and Echo calls your phone. Now you can follow the ring tone or vibration to its location. This trick is especially handy when youre alone.

3. Write a to-do list

The to-do list, one of Alexas most secretarial abilities, will benefit organized and disorganized people alike. To get started, say, Alexa, create a new to-do. Once you have established the list, you can easily add new items to it by saying, Add X to my to-do. (Alexa, add dinner at Moms to my to-do. Alexa, add finish company report to my to-do.)

4. Buy things on Amazon

It shouldnt be surprising that a device created by the worlds biggest online retailer would make it simple to buy things from it.

The easiest objects to purchase from Amazon are the ones youve ordered in the past. Say Alexa, buy more paper towels, and the device automatically places an order for the brand youve already bought.

Say youre listening to a song on Amazon Music and you find yourself bobbing your head and thinking deep thoughts, and you spontaneously decide to keep it forever. Its as easy as, Alexa, buy this song.

5. Arrange a ride

Without having to touch your phone, much less turn it on and fire up an app, you can arrange a ride with Uber or Lyft. Alexa, ask Uber to request a ride. If you already have an account with Uber or Lyft and have coordinated these services, you can call a car to your house.

6. Operate smart home devices

The smarter your house gets, the more appliances youll be able to operate with your voice.

For example, you can vacuum your floors with the Powerbot VR7000. On its own, the Powerbot is already a powerful autonomous vacuum that looks like a little horseshoe crab and happens to suck up Cheerios. With Echo, you can order your Powerbot to clean the carpets. Alexa, tell Powerbot to vacuum.

The list is as big as a house. With a smart thermostat, you can say, Alexa, set the temperature to 78 degrees. With a smart security system, you can say, Alexa, lock my door. Say Alexa, dim the lights, and your smart lamps will set a new mood.

You dont even have to be in the same room as the smart device. If you have the Garageio device, Alexa, ask Garageio to close my garage will do exactly that.

7. Find Easter eggs

Easter eggs are the little gags and surprises programmers leave in some software. Ever since Echo became available, owners have been talking about Alexas ability to tell you a joke. (Alexa, tell me a joke.)

Coming from a small tower, these jokes give new meaning to stand-up comedy, but there are numerous other Easter eggs as well. Here are some favorite nerdy recommendations: Alexa, set phasers to kill. Alexa, show me the money. Alexa. Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.
