okay okay so

im deciding to post this now because i saw an instagram post about a theatre production incorporating ai into the show and it tipped me over the edge. the comments were torn, half saying that its bad and wrong and stealing jobs, the other half saying that its progressive and noone lost their job or was replaced and it should be encouraged and "did you even read the article".

so im going to be blunt. i didnt read the article. i dont particularly care what about this production is different that makes ai topical or practical or why noone really lost their jobs. because its not about this one production. its about every production. its about the principle.

my irls are probably rolling their eyes rn and the ones i dont have on here would too if they could see this, because all i ever talk about these days is the principle. but its whats important.

"chat gpt is a great tool for finding information! but i write the essay myself" is fine at first. but it becomes "chat gpt is a great tool for finding information!" and then "chat gpt is great at planning my essays!" and then "chat gpt is great at writing my essays!" very quickly. sure, in one scenario chat gpt was good, but with every new person, every new challenge, every new assignment, it becomes more and more twisted into something abused and used until the original message was lost. the idea that its an aid is lost.

ai are feeding off of our content that we put online. all of my fanfiction, all of your fanart, all of your posts, all of my posts, this post. if you think you or your ai is the exception, you are not.

chat gpt is not a good ai.

meta ai is not a good ai.

character ai is not a good ai.

c.ai is not a good ai.

myai is not a good ai.

no ai is good ai.

i know someone irl that was convinced that c.ai was the only way to get the content they wanted. that, no joke, the ao3 tagging system was too complicated to find what they wanted specifically.

but guess what- you can dm a fic writer, or send them an ask, or leave them a comment, with the same prompts youd leave an ai (granted with a bit more manners) AND THEYLL WRITE SOMETHING FOR YOU. writers exist to write, someone out there has either written what you want to read or is willing to. someone out there has either drawn what you want to see or is willing to. someone is willing to do that roleplay. someone is willing to do that job. hell, even some people are willing to write that essay.

dont let ai take away human creativity, human jobs, and humanity. stop engaging with it. it is harmful, and it is harming you too, even if you dont know it yet.
