Why do you hate Holtzbert?

Hey anon, i’ll try to answer this to the best of my ability, but I’ll also link you to a few things that I and my friends have written on this in the past. Unfortunately I’m on mobile so I cant make the links look good, or even organized, but I’ll put them in footnote style and hopefully that will be ok. If I ever get my computer back I’ll edit it.

I’m gonna start out by saying my hatred is balanced about 50/50 between the ship itself and the shippers. When it comes to the ship, I personally never felt like Erin and Holtz had a romantic connection, and it confused and surprised me to find that the majority of the fandom ships it. They have zero romantic chemistry and minimal screen time together, not to mention that fact that every other ship has more of those two things to back them up. On its own I think the ship is and boring and nonsensical, but in general not really enough for me to be so against it. 

What really pushed me over the edge from dislike to full out hatred was, sadly, the fandom and the holtzb*rt shippers. (Also i’d like to point out that I write holtzb*rt the way I do because i dont want my hate posts showing up in tumblr search, also its a funny joke to myself cause it makes it look like im sensoring a slur.) I found out that everyone and their mother was expected to come out of Ghostbusters thinking that holtzb*rt was the main point of the movie, and that it’s gonna be endgame or something. It began to escalate, posts crying “holtzbert is real” turned into Holtzmann fics, or Erin edits that just threw in holtzb*rt like it was canon. It became “well erin and holtzmann are just in love, so we can’t leave that out of posts” (spoiler: yes, you can). The fandom began to actually fully believe that holtzb*rt was canon. It got to the point where the majority of the shippers actually couldn’t tell the difference between reality and fiction*. They began to say dumb things about the Whiskers R We snl sketch with Kristen, like “future holtzb*rt!!” even though 

This was a thing that happened, and no one went around crying future yatesmann. 

There’s also a ton of problematic stuff inhearent about shipping these two that @bisexualpattytolan wrote wonderfully about** (that link is probably the best one for describing all my feelings). 

Honestly it’s one thing after another with holtzb*rt shippers, whether it’s putting unrelated posts in the character tags, or ignoring Abby and Patty all together, or demanding that you stop posting your true feelings on holtzb*rt because it’s making teenagers uncomfortable.
