There's probably something interesting to be said about the fact that Knuckle as a beast hunter and a character specifically established to love animals is the only human on the extermination team to ever make an effort to see agency within the royal guard's actions and foster a genuine attempt at appealing to them, even if Knov ultimately ended up being correct about their lack of autonomy and capacity to abandon all sympathy the moment Meruem was threatened.

#i dont blame the rest of the extermination team 4 being cold & pragmatic in their approach of the higher ranking chimera ants #bc ultimately they were in a battle 4 the lives of millions & their own #all said tho...! knuckle is genuinely such a sweet guy & it hits harder in this particular scenario #w there being an emphasis on the gang being unable 2 see meruem + others as sadistic predators #& even being baffled when straight up confronted w the idea that they cld b multi faceted (ie. the whole situation w pitou)#again. eyeing the fact that as a beast hunter & animal lover knuckle is able 2 sympathize w youpi #the only royal guard w a complete lack of human dna
