When dinner ended the girls had asked their parents for a sleepover. Citing the fact that they rarely had time together. “Family is so important, isn't it?” Heather had said, and the adults all caved. So while their parents headed home to tend to their menagerie of animals, they were allowed to stay through the weekend. 

They stayed up late gossiping and talking about their crushes. Charlotte watched her sister and each of her cousins describe their perfect men as lanky, bespectacled teenagers and had never felt more out of place. But she reminded herself to be more humanlike and tried to brush it aside as they finally tucked in for bed. 

The next morning, they headed to the pier in Copperdale. Arriving just as the park opened, they had the whole place to themselves.

The girls marched confidently into the haunted house. Angelica the oldest, assured them it would be childish, so the others tried to be brave, following her lead.

But when the lights went out her younger sister Ophelia screamed and grabbed her arm. They all got spooked, shrieking like banshees. They left ride laughing and teasing one another for their reactions. 

They arrived at the Ferris wheel and Alice noticed their uneven numbers and politely stepped aside. “It’s okay, I’ll sit this one out. You guys go have fun.” She insisted.

Just as she finished her sentence, she noticed a familiar face to her right. She turned to run over to him but was stopped dead in her tracks. “Oh.”

Aventurine stood close to you, watching as your eyes wander around the luxurious boutique,  filled to the brim with an array of exquisite garments. He sensed your hesitation, the overwhelming feeling due to the many different items of clothing there were for you to look through.

A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he leaned casually against the wall, his gaze tender yet playfully teasing.

“Quite a treasure trove to explore, isn't it?”

“They’re beautiful..” You murmured, your fingers lightly grazing the delicate fabrics that hung neatly.

He hummed softly, his eyes locked onto you, captivated by your presence. His heart swelled with a strange, intoxicating mixture of admiration and love as he watched you.

“Pick anything you want.. Anything.”

You ponder for a moment, eyes scanning the various pieces in front of you. Finally, you come to a stop upon seeing a dress that catches your eye.

You paused, eyes sweeping over the variety of choices. Finally, a particular dress caught your eye—a long, silky yellow gown with an elegant open back. You slowly reached for it, marveling at its beauty.

“I’d like to try this one.”

His heart almost stopped for a second when you spoke, his eyes widening at your choice. 

“..That one?” He swallowed thickly as he stared intently at the dress, his mouth almost going dry as vivid images of you wearing it flood his mind, “yeah, sure go ahead.”

You nodded and disappeared behind the velvety curtains. As you slipped into the dress, the silk gently caressing your body, you took a moment to admire your reflection. The gown fit perfectly, its beauty magnified by the way it hugged your form.

Aventurine felt the way his breath hitched as you emerged from the changing room. His heart pounded in his chest, his lilac eyes drinking in the sight of you. The world seemed to pause as he took in every detail, his gaze lingering on you with a mixture of awe and affection. The gown accentuated your elegance, its fabric shimmering softly under the lights. Millions of thoughts raced through his mind as he struggled to find words that could capture the intensity of his feelings. Seeing you in that moment, radiant, enchanting, and angelic, stirred a warmth in his chest that he couldn't ignore. 

“What do you think?” you asked, your voice tinged with uncertainty.

He felt his face grow slightly warmer at the question as the words get caught in his throat.

“..You look.. Beautiful..”

“Thank you.” You murmur softly, a soft blush coloring your cheeks.

“You should get it.” He said almost immediately, the subtle blush on his cheeks deepening ever so slightly. 

Your eyes widened in surprise, “what?”

He pushed himself off the wall, slowly closing the distance between the two of you.

His hand trembling slightly as he reached out to gently brush a stray lock of hair behind your ear, “you should get it,” he repeated, his voice gentle but insistent.

You looked at the price tag and bit your lip, hesitation flickering in your eyes, “it's too expensive.” You murmured softly whilst shaking your head.

“Nonsense, it’s not you who’s buying it.” Aventurine smiled warmly, reaching out to gently take the dress from your hands, his touch was tender, sending a shiver down your spine, “it's on me.”

He then glanced around the boutique once more, his eyes sparkling with a newfound excitement as they swept over the other beautiful garments that had caught your eye earlier.

“And we'll take all of the other ones too.”
