What would "Sleep soulmate" be about? (I'm a sucker for soulmate fics haha

it’s a modern soulmates/high school/basketball AU

(I wrote this before their birthdays got confirmed btw so they are totally wrong lmao)

the fic is named after the soulmate AU I chose - as soon as your youngest partner turns 16 you meet them in a dream. it’s like this so that you can get to know your soulmate before you actually meet them and it doesn’t get awkward :P

when you meet them in the dream you don’t know who it is. you are talking to a formless figure with a neutral voice

there is certain information you can’t talk about. depending on where your soulmate lives you can’t introduce yourself with your name/age/gender/phone number etc

it’s really just there to get to know each other, not to find each other

you don’t automatically see them once you’ve met them. you have to meet and consider them as a potential soulmate first before the dream veil gets lifted~

so, Lance is older than Keith in this one and once Keith has his birthday (during the summer holidays) they finally meet each other in their dreams

Keith moves to Lance’s school

they don’t get along at first........... like, at all lmao

Keith really wants to play basketball and tries to open a club

Lance meets him on a 3v3 game outside of school/club time, gets destroyed and decides that he can’t have that :P So he joins Keith’s unofficial club

(it’s really just a meeting after school on a public place)

(the rest of team Voltron obviously joins the club :P)

there is a street tournament a few months later and they aim to participate and win that

they get along spectacularly in their dreams, but only there. they even complain about each other, not knowing who the other one is lmao

some stuff happens, they get better at basketball and their teamwork on their English lit assignment, they consider each other as their teammates and BAM happy end :D

Here a short excerpt:

“Uh… hi,” Keith offered. The shadow whirled around and he could have sworn that a pair of eyes fixed themselves on him. He gulped and shuffled his feet a little. This was it.

“Who are you?” The guy asked.

Keith stared.

“Man, I know that my dreams are weird sometimes, but this is a whole new level of weird. Just now I could have sworn I was in space or something… there was weird green goo, I don't know…”

And stared.

“…this is getting creepy. You are not moving. Is this going to turn into a nightmare? Are you going to murder me now? Should I try to run?”

Keith snapped himself out of his confusion and shook his head. Right. His soulmate might have waited ages for him to appear, of course he would be a little confused. “I’m not planning to hurt you. I mean, I’m your soulmate.” 

Keith quieted as a new thought came to his head. What if he was the one having a weird dream? Maybe that shadow over there would be trying to murder him in the next few seconds-

“You- you?! Oh! Oh my god, you’re my soulmate? Seriously?!”

The guy suddenly sounded extremely excited and Keith could feel his bad thoughts falling away as he nodded a little sheepishly. “Yeah. I am. I guess? I mean, it’s my birthday, so…”

Laughter filled the cold, empty space between them and suddenly his surroundings didn’t seem to be as uninviting as before. “Right! I can’t believe I almost forgot that, happy birthday! Did you get any awesome presents?”
