to this day I still don't know where that Gar is magically an adult now in s4 hc came from, like that doesn’t even match the little shitty timeline we have at all
each season is confirmed (inside and outside the show) to only take place three months apart, Dick even says so in s3, and s4 is three days after s3. Gar was confirmed to be 15 in season 1 so if you add six months and three days onto that he'd probably be 16 by the time the show ends
and even if we went by the retconned years > s1 - 2019 > s2 - 2020 > s3 + s4 > 2021, that'd make Gar late 16 going on 17. But that timeline isn't canon so 🤷
this whole thing is genuine question because I still don't where it came from and it's been bugging me forever, I mean I have a feeling I know where it did.. still I just wanna know how a fandom can go from calling Gar 16 in season 3 then calling him 20 a season/three days in canon later
#i remember seeing a blog calling gar an adult but they left a bad taste in my mouth#because all they ever posted about titans wise was how garkon should fuck on screen and how hot it would be#and that's what i think was reason for the gar is suddenly an adult... shipping of course#and i also remember someone asking the blog where did they get the idea that gar was an adult#and their response was something on the lines of ryan is an adult so gar is too#if gar is actually an adult in canon the words came out of someone on screen's mouth to confirm it#great! there's my answer#but if it's just a hc made up on someone's shipping blog... yeah no i'm not gonna believe it#he's still some cringefail teenager who plays minecraft and eats cheez-its to me#i don't like reinforcing someone's hc as canon and take it as so#i need to know if it's real or not before it gets the 'canon' sticker slapped on it in my brain#cods.text

it’s a me a 12 am anon . my girlfriend and i had a discussion abt how odd it is that the fandom views and stereotypes the batfam like
dick is romanian and has more fem related traits and somehow it translates into him being a dumb womanizer or just an annoying mother hen?
jason grew up in the streets, i think its popular to hc him as hispanic? idk but jts odd how ppl do that and also think hes an angry heartless brute
cass gets that “badass asian dragon lady” archetype (tbh im not sure what it is but my gf is passionate abt it so like im confident she’s right)
tim?? somehow ive seen wasian hcs for him but the boy is autistic right? somehow a stereotype i see for him is like “weird and socially awkward but super smart” which . i dont think thats right .
steph is adhd right? i think? also falls into the dumb “waffles r my only personality trait” stereotype and uts just a tiny bit odd dyou see it?
damian (and by extension talia) gets done dirty a lot i think i dont .yeah
nyways sorry its been a while <3 would llve to hear ur thoughts n opinions
hey again!!
Batfam fanon is...not great. And it's things like this that remind me why I kinda avoided this fandom until I couldn't.
Dick
Dick is Romani and is canonically more feminized but the dumb womanizer thing is really getting on my nerves. First of all, he's one of the smartest characters, ever. The comforting thing about Dick is that he never loses.
The reason I love reading Dick Grayson runs is because I can read about his thought process, the way he analyzes, how he single-handedly solves crime like it's nothing.
Batman (1940) Issue #703
Secondly he's not a womanizer. He literally has a mental break down at the thought of dating or even kissing someone he isn't in love with. He's never, ever, ever going to sleep with someone he doesn't have atleast some level of romantic attraction to because he feels it's inherently wrong and canonically frowns upon that behavior when others do it.
The mother hen thing - I gotta admit is kinda accurate. He really loves his family and friends and takes care of them really well. He always makes time to sit and listen to all of them with all their problems and helps them solve it so that's fine.
Jason
The hispanic thing - what the actual heck. Literally why? Jason's "hispanic" fanon background along with Tim's "asian" background comes from a wider problem where society has become disillusioned by the same ethnicity for all characters and wants for diversity and representation in the media. I actually do believe in greater representation but not here. When people make Jason hispanic due to his street backstory, they're attempting to diversify canonically white characters but accidentally reinforcing and perpetrating damaging stereotypes about particular ethnicities. Because his background has drugs, poverty, and crime - you want Jason to be Latino? Can you possibly make things worse? And Jason being an angry heartless brute. Not even adding to the stereotype, Jason was not like that. Jason originally started off as troubled but excited kid. He was happy about fighting criminals and having a home and getting food. As he grew older, the more criminals he fought, he came to a realization that people weren't going to change which is when he started getting more violent and angry with them. He didn't do it because he was some sort of psychopath, it's because he cared a lot about the effects these criminals were having on innocent people. Because he can relate. His anger has nothing to do with his supposed "hispanic" background which is still - ?!?!? Why is this even a thing.
Cass
I don't really have anything to say about Cass being that archetype because tbh I kinda think of her like that too. She's exceptionally good at fighting, she's chinese, and she's the strong and silent type. I'd love to hear more about what your gf thinks about it though.
Tim
Again about Tim being Asian. No where near as damaging as Jason being classified Hispanic but also why? He's asian because he's smart? Because he's good at computers? C'mon the stereotype is boring. Isn't it exciting when you watch a movie or show and the Indian guy isn't an IT specialist? Or when the Chinese girl has neon highlights and loves partying? Or when the Japanese girl is rocking combat boots? The best way to appreciate diversity is actually letting ethnic characters have diverse personalities and talents. On a side note, there is not nearly enough celebration of already canonically diverse characters like Roy's navajo heritage or Jessica Cruz's latina one. Isn't it ironic how we're making racialized characters based on stereotypes because we believe there should be more diversity but ignoring canonically ethnic ones. Literally noone talks about Cass connecting to her Chinese side or the fact that she has dyslexia but we're readily jumping on the Asian Tim Drake train.
Autistic Tim Drake I can see where they're coming from because Tim sometimes has a hard time connecting to people. Like he sometimes misses social cues. And to be fair this theory actually has more credibility than some other ones because I don't know if I'd pass that off as awkwardness. But it also may be due to lack of human interaction. Tim's parents left him alone for long periods of time which he gleefully used to track robin and batman at night. I don't have a problem with this one because Tim may actually be inadvertently written as autistic at times so I guess it wouldn't be that far off canon.
Steph
People with ADHD are typically impulsive, don't focus on one thing for too long, and have a lot of energy which is very much like Steph.
Batgirl (2009) Issue #10
But mostly she just has a sense of humor. Which - like the case with Dick - because of course people can't be multifaceted, fandom generally takes for stupidity.
She's not dumb, she's just fun. I guess the waffle thing is because of human beings' pathological need to classify everything into categories and fanon likes to run with dumb blonde for Stephanie which really ticks me off. People can not be a gloomy avenger and still be smart. She solves her crimes and has a laugh while doing it and still pulling off the -

Where do I start. What is even happening to him? Not in fandom necessarily but canon. What is DC doing???

Kamisato Ayato Propaganda
OK THIS ONE IS JUST MY HC especially because he doesn't have a lot of screentime but i am SO CORRECT about it. he trusts maybe 2 people at ALL ever and one of them is his sister. and i don't think he has a genuine connection with her, all he says about her is that he feels responsible for her and really wants to protect her and shield her from the duties of her nobility and let her basically have the innocent and comfortable upbringing he wished he could've had. parental trauma is canon his father overworked himself to death while he was still very young and. there's this one line that i always quote about him that goes something like "Ayato was greatly loved from the moment he was born. Though his parents never had much time to spend with him, […]" and it just Gets me every time because holy shit they really said "he grew up so loved :) [single beat of pause] so anyway, his severe childhood neglect--" (because after that quote they describe how he had to take on a lot of important and rigorous duties early on as a child and perform well to get any care or attention from his parents at all)
so this is a kind of niche hc though because he actually acts Pretty Normal. but he's actually REALLY unsettling the more you talk to him and he just. he seems to flip on a dime, he's VERY good at being a Polite and Politically Correct Politician (he's high ranking nobility in his country) BUT he has a HUGE tendency to subtly cause trouble and he's clearly VERY stimulus-seeking. he has a very extreme vetting process for who he can have relationships with and he explicitly mentions that his servant (the only person he trusts besides his sister) earned that trust through EXTREME loyalty and it just reads to me like he is very insecure about his relationships and needs that kind of.. reinforcement and extra assurance in order to feel ok "investing" in someone. he also is prone to violent outbursts but they're kind of subtle-- at one point he indirectly threatened to cut out someone's tongue in a very visceral graphic sense through metaphor. and maybe that's projection?? like he himself feels manipulative and unnecessarily wordy and he's kind of projecting his self hatred into external hatred?? idk. it Vibes but it's hard to pin down Why precisely.
also he has a lot of voicelines about preferring to work with dogs and orphans because they're fiercely loyal and he likes the Control of it, but the way he describes it feels very much to me like just… feeling really uncomfortable with the idea of being uncertain whether or not someone will Leave. like it's not actually Control he wants, it's an avoidance of rejection and it's an assurance of security to him. i think. in my hcs.

what do the family dynamics of your hawkes look like and how are they different or similar? (inspired by the ask meme sibling question!!)
Omg thank you for this question. Much to unpack with these guys in all directions. Not sure where to start so I'll go hawke by hawke i guess (this post got so long so I'm putting it beneath the cut lol)
Caleb - GOD OKAY. caleb is my canon hawke so i have the most thoughts about him so this is about to be a mile long. caleb has a massive eldest daughter but a boy complex that primarily dates back to an incident as a child where he blames himself for his father almost being caught by the templars, but also only been reinforced over the years of trying to protect bethany and then stepping up as basically the head of the family after Malcolm died. i know Malcolm is supposed to have the same basic personality as hawke but my Malcolm in all worldstates except camillas (will get into that later) primarily has the blue/green personality and is like. a generally pretty upstanding guy who didn't want this life for his children but also knew there wasn't really any choice if he and his children were going to be free. he didnt want to raise his sweet eldest son to feel like he needed to be Protector of the Family but like. what else was he going to do. if Malcolm died or got captured by templars someone had to be ready for that. and as a result caleb has always kind of hero-worshipped his father and is constantly measuring himself against what he feels like Malcolm would have wanted him to do.
and that extends into caleb's messy relationship with carver, because if Malcolm saw caleb as his replacement, then caleb saw carver as his. and in a lot of ways it makes sense he expected the same from carver that he did from himself: they're both boys, both non-mages, both two-handed warriors, I even hc they both take after the hawke side of the family physically while beth takes after the amell side. but caleb expecting so much out of carver also makes carver resent him, and when carver tries to confide in him about how much he hates having their lives defined by magic, caleb takes it as like a personal betrayal against the family and doesn't want to engage with it. (also the girl carver had a crush on had a crush on caleb which was so unfair and unbearable for poor carver). it's not like he's mean to carver or anything, but he's definitely not understanding in the way he could be and this isn't something that hits until carver dies. which sucks and is something he's going to feel guilty about forever :/
he has the pretty typical hawke relationship with leandra i think. he wants his mom to like him and he knows she loves him but. its hard sometimes. leandra is hard to deal with and when she's disappointed in him it's another reflection of the way he feels like he's failing his father. and then BETHANY he loves bethany and by the end of things she's the only family he has left. after a lifetime of doing everything to protect her seeing her become a grey warden is honestly agonizing bc she's so miserable and there's nothing he can do about it but it gives bethany the space to work through her negative feelings about all she's been through and i ultimately think she comes out better for it
catherine - my og hawke :) i think her dynamic with Malcolm and leandra wasn't unlike calebs but just wayyyyy less intense bc catherine is simply less inclined to take things So Fucking Personally. from an early age she learned sometimes you have to stab some guys to protect your family and its fine. that's just how it is. i don't think she and carver were super close but they had a pretty classic older/younger sibling relationship. they loved each other and bickered and cat never took carver's shit too seriously bc he was her dumb kid brother. catherine was also really protective of beth tho and when she went to the circle and then liked it there she took it PERSONALLY. bethany is actually probably her most fucked up and strained relationship in her family and out of all her companions. she loves her sister she would do anything for her but she also feels unbelievably betrayed that bethany is happy in a place she worked so hard to protect her from. they work it out eventually but i genuinely don't think they're on speaking terms for like another 5-10 years post da2
cassian - cassian hawke love of my life is a huge sweetheart but is frankly pretty self absorbed at the beginning of his story and really just did Not internalize any of the family pressure my other hawkes did. he's a talented mage who took malcolm's instruction seriously and is very nice to his mom and so managed to get through his whole childhood with a very nice relationship with his parents. i think he and bethany had a pretty solid relationship but were never close despite being honestly very similar people in many ways. the carver relationship was TENSE bc carver was wildly jealous of cassian (cassian is nice in a way that makes everyone like him, he's better looking so the girls all had crushes on him, he was always in good shape despite not needing to be as a mage, he got more attention from their father because he was mage, he was even just naturally good at magic and Malcolm was always commenting on it) and cassian just never really got why carver acted the way he did with him. their relationship does actually improve as its put through the test in kirkwall too (and as cassian gains more perspective on the world and has his arc) and they end the game friends
calliope - rebellious streak a mile wide. she never did blood magic while Malcolm was alive but she was always asking questions pushing the boundaries of what she was allowed to do and it worried the shit out of him. she was good though, and their relationship was overall positive, but he was always warning her about the consequences of going too far. i don't think leandra was as attuned to that honestly, and it wasn't something Malcolm ever brought up to her because he didn't want to worry her. calliope was always pushing back against leandra and challenging her when she felt like she was wrong but at their core they both had a lot of love for each other. and cal LOVED bethany. would have and probably did kill for bethany. and bethany loved calliope a lot albeit in a "that's my crazy older sister” kind of way and was terrified when she realized she had started doing blood magic. that caused some fighting between them but honestly cal just never took bethany's objections particularly seriously. the carver relationship is more complicated bc they never got along and calliope was such a bitchy older sister to him. and carver knew EXACTLY what cal was even if he wouldn't say it. frankly cannot rlly blame him for joining the templars. there is still a lot of love there though, and as much as they might fight with each other they wouldn't hesitate to defend the other if they were in danger
camilla - PLAY DADDY LESSONS BY BEYONCE. so malcolm in this worldstate had the red personality just like his daughter and also had the same expectations for camilla that caleb internalized just. more intensely. my read of Malcolm (in all world states) is that despite being an apostate he still has a very conventional circle educated philosophy of magic and (in this worldstate) i think impressed hard on bethany, as well as carver and cam, the importance of highly disciplined magic, the importance of being an exceptional mage who didn't make mistakes lest the results be dire). this translated into cam being pretty brutal when it came to protecting her family but also having a very critical outlook on mages despite coming from a family of apostates. she loved and admired her father for being a strong, disciplined man, and also hated him sometimes too for condemning them to a life on the run. she wanted her mother to love her soooo bad and I'm sure she did but leandra just never responded to her intense, easily angered daughter as well as she did to sweet little bethany. cam got along with both her siblings like. fine. growing up. they fought sometimes, they played sometimes, she wasn't particularly close with either as teens. carver's death is hard on her, but not like leandra's is years later. she finally gets the validation she always wanted from her mother at the moment of her death and its AWFUL. it sends her down a spiral -- leandra was killed by blood mages, who camilla has always hated, and of course she finds orsino's note in quentin's lair. the circle is complicit in blood magic, probably all the mages around her are as well. they all as good as killed her mother. she and bethany almost patch things up in the legacy quest, but when orsino uses blood magic in the final battle, camilla is certain that bethany is a blood mage too and has betrayed their mother, betrayed their father, betrayed her too and lets Meredith kill her. yoinks
#THANK YOU FOR THE ASK SORRY THIS IS SO LONG#caleb hawke#catherine hawke#cassian hawke#calliope hawke#camilla hawke

Yes finaly someone who is willing to rent about suki alone! AAAAH. Rent to me about litherally everything you can. Hc. Theories. I don't care tell me xD. Its awesome isn't it?? I think it's canon that she's an orphan now cs like. Her parents weren't mentioned and stuff. Also what did you think of Biyu? The traitor bitch. Suki angst D:
OKAY YES, LITERALLY, THANKS
Okay first of all, yes, Suki is definitely an orphan. It was a popular headcanon before but this comic even reinforces it. No parents and the only one in charge of her and her 'sisters' (foster sisters, I'm sure all those girls are orphans who live together) is the old leader of the village. He's the one who 'grounds' them when they stole those buns. If those girls had parents, he would have said 'I'm telling your parents'. But nope, Oyaji himself sent them to clean the floors.
One of the things that I'm glad we learned is that not all the Kyoshi warriors went with Suki. In fact, only a small part because in 170 years, Kyoshi Island remained isolated and technically they're still isolated. Suki pulled a Wonder Woman and left because that was the right thing, and only her closest friends/sisters went with her. This is important to me because: one of the other popular headcanons to explain why all the Kyoshi Warriors were like 16 was that the older ones died long ago in the war. Now we know that couldn't happen because Suki's village has been totally isolated for 170 years. And in fact we actually saw older Kyoshi Warriors: Suki watches them train when she's little. So, in conclusion, there are older Kyoshi Warriors, they just stayed in the island. Why is Suki, a 16 years old, the leader then if there are older and probably more experienced warriors? Who knows. Maybe the Kyoshi Warriors vote for their leader instead of choosing her by age or experience. Suki seems to be the most respected and popular of her group, kind of a well loved golden child, so easily she'd win if they vote for their leader.
Now to her prison time. After Biyu's (that bitch) betrayal Suki spent 14 days alone in the dark for trying to cultivate food in a secret garden. Fuck. And when she goes out she's so traumatized that she pulls a Katara vs Yon Rha and almost murders Biyu. THIS is the great climax of the story and honestly a great one. The whole comic is about exploring Suki's character and this scene let us see that she's stronger than her rage, and still clinging to the person she was when she joined the war: the good person, who wanted to help and wouldn't murder an unarmed jerk not even if she spent 14 days in hell for her fault. Biyu even mocks her after it, but Suki didn't forgive her life for mercy, she did it for her Kyoshi warrior moral code, the only thing she still had.
Now, Kyoshi. Other of the things I liked about this story is HOW MUCH emphasis it makes on what Kyoshi means for Suki. Why Suki clings to Kyoshi's image so desperately. (Now, this is just my take on the things and how I understood them): Suki is so devoted to Kyoshi because, as an orphan, she was the imaginary mother figure she never had. Her superhero. When Suki is finally in her cell and she breaks down for the first time, it's Kyoshi who appears to her. But is it really Kyoshi?? Past Avatars only have appeared through Aang. Only know what Aang knows. And Aang is currently sleeping in the temple since this is immediately before The Boiling Rock episode. So unless they're breaking canon (wouldn't be the first time, tho) Kyoshi is an hallucination. She tells Suki what she wants to hear and gives her the comfort she so desperately needs. That the person Suki aches to see in her worst moment is a long dead Avatar is certainly interesting.
(Maybe it was the real Kyoshi tho. If someone can break the veil of death to go and comfort someone is Kyoshi, that dork).
In conclusion: this story was made to develop Suki's character and in my opinion it did. Suki is the only member of the gaang that doesn't have a sad backstory. She genuinely had a happy life before going to the war. Probably didn't have parents, but she had a lot of friends she loved and a place in her community and seemed to be satisfied with what she had. Suki was loved and loved in return. She doesn't join the fight as penitence like Zuko or to run away from something like Toph. Suki realized she could help people and left exactly for that.
Basically like Wonder Woman, yeah.

1 About the Luci relationship, I don't know if maybe I'm getting everything wrong but I see him as a person that changes his behaviour according to the person. With MC he's less strict than with Mammon for example, and that's canon, so I think his attitude with his S/O would be completely different, also it depends if there's more people in the room or just the couple, I think he acts seriously in public but in private the situation change. His way of express his love, in my opinion is physical
2 He's physical as we knew back in chap 20 and the sleepless event, in his devilgram story he's just really sweet, he wanted to be close to MC. Also I think he Would spoil MC, we can check that in the last chapters and some chats, breakfast, dinner invitations, buying candies, clothes. For him to speak about his feeling is complicated, even if it not romantically! So yeah physical demonstrations and sometimes positive reinforcements. The main problem could be the time to spend with his S/O.
3 He's busy, all the time, busy in meeting, busy with student council, busy with paperwork, and of course his pride. I'm nor trying to say you're wrong, NOOO, I just wanted to share some positive things that are kinda hard to think of due to Luci's common behaviour.
About this ask I received
You are absolutely fine! I don't take it as you trying to prove me wrong. (I have only unlocked like 3 (Being the oldest is the only one off the top of my head ) of his Devilgrams so I am forever jealous of the sweetness I’m lacking). I could use the cavities.
I think you are right though, I didn’t give him as much credit as I should have. He is (or would be) more physical behind closed doors. Lucifer does seem to adapt to the person and adjusts himself to each situation. I think it was talked about or it was a HC I read about how Mammon is more hardheaded so of course, he goes to such extremes with him, but Lucifer wouldn't even think to be as extreme with MC.
That just makes me have feels of a touched starved Lucifer. I think he would almost always hesitate to initiate touch though but if MC talks about it once or twice where they crave him to start it, he would remember and try harder. But he would practically melt if you touched him. (Which is probably my fav Lucifer)
It is complicated for him to talk and express his feelings and behind doors would help but to a certain degree. So maybe that why he defaults to buying things, though even when he buys the MC something it's well thought out and not just random things. Like one of the gifts was something he saw MC adore when they went out together, was it a pin of sorts? I’m going to have to go back and find out now. Meaning he does pay attention to MC, so maybe he would be a little more in tune with his S/O unless if he is drowning in work. He probably also defaults to pampering and spoiling because it’s a way to show everyone else he loves you (and he loves to do it of course!)
So like maybe he knows MC is having a rough day, might not know specifics, and is too busy to find out; that’s when I see him being reassuring in a more physical way. Like just quickly squeezing MC hand or brush against them in a way that MC knows it was on purpose, or maybe depending on who is around a kiss to the top of the head or temple.
I think it would depend on the security level of MC though too. Because I can know someone is busy but I still can take the silence as they hate me, but that’s me being me and being insecure (and something that is a fault of mine and not the other person’s). And that’s something Lucifer could only help so much with because he can reassure all he wants but if MC isn’t secure enough it wouldn’t mean much. But I think my insecurity showed through with that, that he could close a book differently and set me on edge and I would assume something is wrong. And I just said it but that’s my character flaw.
Maybe it’s just at the beginning of the relationship, where it’s still awkward and new. That MC and Lucifer both struggled, but it’s just because of the change and they could quickly overcome it together.
Please share all the positive things about Lucifer, I adore him! Like me and Diavolo would get along and meet up just to gush about Lucifer, like once a week. Relive the week of what Lucifer did, said, and just his overall attractiveness. It is also nice cause I kinda hurt my own feelings at the end of my own post, so being able to make it fluffy, right, and okay is really nice! Thank you for letting me ramble about this
