Ok let's go back to this line from Agatha All Along
"it's underwater! There's a boy. It's a prank. They tricked him. He's gonna drown. it's a bad place. And the people, the family, there's no one to love him! He's got no one!"
Guys we're getting some Tommy lore and it's heart breaking💔 (we knew it would be).

Voyage of the Damned (1976)
"Will we ever come back?"
"It's only a temporary madness. Of course we come back."
#voyage of the damned#stuart rosenberg#david butler#steve shagan#faye dunaway#oskar werner#lee grant#sam wanamaker#lynne frederick#julie harris#wendy hiller#maria schell#max von sydow#malcolm mcdowell#georgina hale#orson welles#james mason#katharine ross#victor spinetti#a... conflicting film. the true story of the voyage of the St. Louis‚ carrying Jewish refugees from Germany on the eve of WW2‚ and the#efforts of her captain‚ and of various individuals aboard and elsewhere‚ to secure the safety of her passengers as country after country#refused them entry; that is a powerful story and deserved telling and telling well. and sometimes this nails it: more than once i was in#tears‚ there are individual scenes of great impact‚ and deeply moving performances and writing contained here. but just as often‚ the sheer#spectacle of the treatment risks obscuring the message; this was an 'all star' movie‚ heavily promoted as such‚ and at 2.5 hrs long it can#feel bloated and overblown. idk‚ less than the sum of its parts (some of which are profoundly affecting: Victor Spinetti silently weeping#as he waits to hear if his children will be allowed to join him in Cuba‚ every scene with Katherine Ross). the cast might be distractingly#starry (and also unfortunately mostly gentile‚ a disappointing misstep by producers) but some are doing incredible work here#of particular note is Werner‚ in his final ever screen role‚ and at this point more or less written off by the film world as a hopeless#alcoholic who couldn't be trusted to turn up‚ let alone act: he delivers one of his finest‚ most complex performances and in the process#recaptures some of the magical screen presence of his youth

oh this is going to be......... a problem actually
#me when i start wips i KNOW are going to be so much longer than i want them to be#I KNOW IT I FUCKING SEE IT IN MY MIND#every time Every Single Time#to make things even better it's vega and warden AGAIN#which is objectively not a bad thing because i love them deeply and intensely#but in terms of my bitter and hateful need to be externally validated this is some of the worst news possible because#what it inevitably means is tens of hours of my life in exchange for maybe 30 or 40 notes lmao#half of which are my own self rbs#head in HANDS. why cant i just like writing about characters that are easily and broadly popular#i should have conditioned myself harder into liking milo or asher or sam something#OR DAVID AND ANGEL. GOD my life would be so much easier if i liked david and angel#(you know full well this is not an attack on people who do like those characters. don't pretend like it is so you have an excuse to be rude#i say it every fucking time I AM NOT OWED ANYTHING I GET IT I UNDERSTAND#doesn't mean it's not disheartening to make tens of thousands of words and see almost no acknowledgement of it at all#yes again for the millionth time: nobody is OBLIGATED to like my writing or like the characters i write about YOU DON'T HAVE TO#once again: you KNOW that is not the thing i am bitching about here#i am a hateful spiteful bitch for DIFFERENT reasons#those reasons being i have a deeply insecure and desperate need for validation that no amount of 'art for art's sake!' can cure#art for art's sake is all well and good. doesn't ever seem to make me feel better though#delete later

I looked it up, and Belgarath, Polgara, Murderbot Diaries and The Martian are all 1st person povs. Do you prefer 1st person povs in general or does it not matter what pov it is?
hi!! I'm sorry for letting this ask sit for a bit, I 100% forgot it was there. <_<
I honestly didn't think about how those four are all first person. Very funny to me, especially when I remember my favorite fic for over a decade is also first person. And it is terribly easy to imagine svsss as a first person too... imagine.... it would be so funny....
anyway!
100% coincidence. Those four may all be first person, but they are also the "goddamn, what thing is on fire NOW?" vibes and I love those vibes.
Murderbot diaries is the most social anxious murderbot of all time and its journal logs about trying to do a Good Job without Doing a Good Job (relateable) and the bane of its existence is being acknowledged as sentient, which I find very funny.
The Martian is "botanist gets stuck on anti-botanist hell world, time to use humor to cope as he scopes out dehydrated human shit to make grow-able dirt so that he can grow food and Not Die, but watch out!!! Things go WRONG!!!!" and I can't read this book in public because I make gremlin-giggle noises.
And Belgarath is an ancient sorcerer talking about how as a child he got adopted by the God of Autism (my words) and then fumbled stumbled his way into becoming a legendary sorcerer of respect despite definitely having ADHD and something more,
Polgara is his daughter who, in my opinion, ALSO had Something because she went from Filthy Feral Angry Child Who Lives In Tree (there is a loving description of her hair being covered in bird shit because Birds Are The Best) to then reading up on how to be a Lady and aggressively mastering the ways of "mommy step on me" vibes. I blame her mom's genes here. Her mom is a wolf. A Sexy Wolf.
I won't lie. I could go on long, long rambles when it comes to David Eddings' books. Was he an awful human being? Yes. Did he still shape my sense of humor as a wee child??? Also yes.
Althalus falls in love with a talking cat. They adopt four chaos children to save the world. Sparhawk gets conned into marrying his ward/charge/Queen and tbh Binghe should take notes from Queen Ehlana on how to Get Your Man. Belgarion attempts to do Diplomacy and creates Natural Disasters as a result, gets bullied by grandpa. There are carnivore horses and magic dictates you matter as much as a bug does (affectionately) so if u try to erase a bug from existence, you will get erased instead because fuck u, equality!!! and troll priests can stop TIME THEY CAN STOP TIME WHO LET THE TROLLS BE ABLE TO STOP TIME??? THEY EAT PEOPLE
as I said, I can ramble about the words David Eddings created. I am also procrastinating because YQY is driving me insane in syonr.
back to writing I go............

#really randomly fell down a weird rabbit hole today#i was watching the X-Files and finally felt like reading up on david duchovny#like i see u fellow slav what kind of slav are you#so i opened up his wikipedia article and saw that his dad was jewish and from ukraine and went like AHA WE ARE THE SAME#and just out of curiosity looked up the place he's from because im curious about jewish shtetls in the ukraine#because my whole family except my biological father is from several of them and i thought hey maybe they were neighbors#which they fucking are omg theyre just 20km apart#my greatgreatgrandma is from makhnivka which i even found articles and history about and how the jewish population grew & declined#even though i did not find any steinbergs in the archives#anyway when i read up on Berdychiv where duchovnys family is from it said#early settlement by the Chernyakhov Culture#which was an archeological culture between 200 and 500 CE existing at the same time as the roman empire#....... is this how i finally find out where my name is from??????? like?????????#i wish i knew so much more than i do#like i only found out that im not russian i was just born in russia like 7 years ago or so??? because my mom never tells me anything#all the information about my great great grandparents and where theyre from is from my grandma#and her dementia is really bad now and shes just angry and screams and calls people names#my russian is too bad to properly read up on stuff like that and theres barely anything in english or german#i just want to know idk#but genetic testing is too expensive and also very america centric and the only family i have in the us is super conservative#i had to block them on facebook when my grandma made me write to them once over 10 years agl#and i know a huge chunk of my grandmas family moved to israel too so i dont want anything to do with that either#although id be curious if it would actually find my half siblings i found out about also like 8 years ago#i just wish there were more archives and more people i could talk to about this#on my grandfathers side theres nothing really left#my grandfather passed suddenly and apparently before he did he took ALL THE FAMILY PHOTOS AND DOCUMENTS somewhere to maybe digitalise them#but we dont know where so theyre literally gone for ever#but his whole family was from kiev and is apparently named after this culture era#his dad was a higher up at a sugar factory and i still cant find anything#my grandma had so many cousins and they were so interconnected and knew so much and i literally just have my mom and no one else

I know ppl couldn't care less about the humans in the cgi movies but Zoe and Dr. Rubin were both hilarious characters and the more i rewatch the movies the more i think about that.
#we all know Ian was the best human character simply bc David cross was great on it but i think these two are pretty funny!!#the idea of an adult woman hyping the chipmunks is so adorable and a great way to explain why Alvin nevergot expelled lmao#and zoe was simply hilarious! maybe because i find her out-of-reality personality too appealing#it's such a shame the writers of the cgi movies couldn't write Dave better bc while i don't hate him like other ppl#i do think he is one of the least interesting human characters in all the movies#i don't think it's the actor's fault they just didn't know what to do with his character besides being a strict dad for the chipmunks#but funny enough i do think dave from the cgi series is even more boring despite there are episodes focused on him#i love when he is all affectionate with his sons and the chipettes but he is so bland without that and sometimes way too strict#i still can't believe there is an episode focused on the chipmunks getting scared of Dave knowing they spilled milk#it just shows how many times he has get angry for the most simply things#it doesn't help AT ALL that the show has barely likeable human characters i mean i adore miss smith but i do get why ppl don't like her#miss croner is an amazing contrast to miss miller! but i do think they write her way too aggressive at times#officer dangus is the only character besides miss miller that i find decent without giving a 'but' in the middle#the classmates of the chipmunks.... Yeah we don't talk about them#i would like to go further with the humans characters of the 80's show but i still need to watch a LOT of episodes#but i would say that most of the episodic human characters of the 80's have been pretty nice so far#i loved the old lady that got a date with Alvin!! she was way too sweet with him and i love the way alvin learn his lesson at the end#also it has the best dave so far!! he is a lovely dad and he can be funny on his own way. i can tell he is just doing his best ahaha#aatc#alvin and the chipmunks

my beautiful autistic mind is so picky and annoying sometimes because my biggest struggle with writing at the moment is the fact i dont like how the name bobby looks written out but i like how it sounds and also know that is his name it literally cannot be anything else. but every time i look at the letters i'm like.......
#thing is it's literally a whole thing in the damn story about how he hates his Government Name so i have to honour his real name!!!!#actually this was one of those moments where a character came with a name#bobby was a moment of wait were you always there and i just didnt notice you because i saw a pic on pinterest#that gave me an idea for an RR storyline the storyline being a character dies from AIDS#which is something i have been SO apprehensive about this whole time because i didnt know if i wanted to write the AIDS crisis and include#death so directly...but then my mom died and i became hyperfixated on death LOL#(and realised the way i could approach it respectfully + in a way that honours)#anyway i was like wow with my better expertise on the AIDS crisis + personal experience with loss i feel like i can write this kind of#storyline but who dies?? and i have to make them a fully fleshed character bc i always do#but thats like especially important here. he can't just be a body + vessel for other characters' grief journeys#literally immediately my brain was like so his name is bobby he looks like this he was born in august and he loves this david bowie song#i dont actually know if he still likes the david bowie song (my first image of him had dialogue inspired by the song) so that is info FOR M#but maybe i should revisit that lol.....anyway he just appeared#more details + development came with time as always but i dont have like any conscious#memory of that it just happened#like i forget he's only existed less than a year bc he's on beau/felix/dorothy levels of developed. WOW!#was also never meant to be beau's bestie and i can't remember at all how i decided that it also just happened#oops i accidentally infodumped

5 Times Grant Pulled A Dad
1st Time
NOT FOR EVERYONE
Run Down: Don’t ask him how it happened.
Content Warnings: Cursing. Mentions of verbal disagreement, yelling. Mentions of being ignored.
To make up for the Jeremy
______________________
The sound of a door slamming shut went unnoticed for a short amount of time.
By now, he’s gotten used to the sound. If not from his previous job where you claw at each other’s throat trying to get to the newest client first before shutting your office door angrily when you lost, then from slowly learning the habits of those who work at Joey Drew Studios.
The accountant sighs as he thinks about all the reasons why this one sounded particularly loud. Wally pulling a prank. Norman accidentally kicking it closed too harshly. Sammy announcing his frustration.
But before he can stand up from his desk to investigate and ensure no one’s going to kill each other, he catches movement in the corner of his eye. It causes him to hesitate, looking over the wall of miniscule stairs with just as equally small doors dotting multiple landings designed for those who stand no taller than three inches tall. Ones that have gone completely untouched ever since he started working as the studio accountant. Yet Grant finds himself blinking at the sight of someone darting down them as fast as possible.
Out of everything he was expecting, his coworkers invading his office wasn’t among them.
Being the only giant employee has its perks. When it comes to drama and trying to blame someone for something, he’s always left out of it. Despite how much it was emphasized by the others on how much Joey bothers them, his employer has not once come to demand for something and therefore distract him from the mountain of paperwork that has done nothing but steadily grow. Not to mention the legendary pranks he’s heard numerous stories are yet to be done with him as the target.
That doesn’t mean he isn’t silently grateful when one of the doors is left open after a weekly meeting in which Grant has been apart of, but from his desk while the rest are gathered in a common area just out of sight. Finds himself listening with curiosity as Henry gets roped into someone’s project. Feels a smile tug at his lips when Shawn starts ranting. Leans back to enjoy Susie’s recording sessions when a song is being sung behind an entire orchestra.
When offered a position as the studio’s accountant, he had been told most of his coworkers would be human, not all. It had been promised there’d be accommodations for his stature, not a single room. There had been numerous assurances no one would mind a giant being hired, not that they weren’t informed whatsoever.
The others truly hadn’t minded the fact their newest coworker stood over two hundred feet tall. That certainly didn’t mean they felt the same way interacting with him.
Grant has found the routine in being asked for advice, but from a distance where he can never make out the requestor's expressions. Is respected and will grab Joey when needed, but always from the safety of walls much to small for his hand to fit through. Someone will always greet him in the morning by opening a door and waving, but never walking into the giant’s territory.
So why was Henry passing the last doorway back into the human side of the studio without so much as a glance, looking as if he fully intends to reach the bottom of the stairs.
One’s that end on the floor to Grant’s office.
“Ross?”
The teenager startles, hands frantically grabbing at the rails to ensure he doesn’t tumble down hard wood stairs and wind up breaking his leg, bruising a rib, possibly pitch over the side.
Grant nearly stands up to grab the miniscule figure before he gets hurt. The sheepish smile aimed upwards keeps him in his chair. “H-Hey, Cohen. Didn’t, uh, see ya there.”
The giant can’t help giving an unimpressed look. “Any reason why I wouldn’t be here?”
In the only space in the entire studio he could be. It’s not like he can shrink down to make a cup of coffee in the main break room.
“Well, er.” Henry winces as he carefully stands up instead of staying in his nearly-falling position before suddenly brightening up as he points at the man accusingly. “Why would you be! It’s 5 o’clock, meaning you should be clocked out and heading home!”
Grant glances at the time, a wave of exhaustion washing over him at the realization it is 5. Yet he has at least an hour left of cleaning financial reports before he’ll be able to leave. It doesn’t help that, despite everything being an utter mess, Joey still continues to spend at the budget he set long ago. A budget that multiple meetings have stated isn’t feasible.
But what would he know? He’s only the accountant.
“As much as I’d love to, there will be no clocking out until I’ve found a proper stopping point.” Less he have to restart May all the way from the beginning tomorrow and waste half a day’s work.
“Oh,” Henry murmurs.
That’s when Grant notices how...reserved the teenager is. They haven’t interacted much, but he’s heard the talented animator’s laugh and taunts as clear as day despite the closed door. Has heard Sammy’s fond grumbles of having such a rambunctious thing wondering through the halls without supervision. It only gets worse when he teams up with Wally and all hell breaks loose.
He’s come to imagine Henry Ross as a confident kid who teases everyone he comes across. Grant actually saw the personality not even a moment ago.
Now it’s gone, leaving him with a human unsure what to do.
...looking like he just got caught.
“What did you do?”
“Who? Me? Cohen, that’s a question for Franks,” Henry grins. It doesn’t falter even with a disbelieving headshake as papers that would be impossible for him to hold are carefully straightened.
“I think it’s a question for whoever sprinted into my office as if he was being chased.”
Grant’s eyes harden as Henry flinches. “That obvious, huh?”
A million questions run through his mind. Unsure what would be better. What would be worst. All he knows is that if the kid was truly in danger, he doesn’t mind using the fact he is the only giant employee to his advantage.
“I got upset at Drew,” suddenly erups. And then Henry’s hands are gesturing as he marches down the last couple flights of stairs. “I’ve been begging for help with animation, ya know? I’m quick, but he’s been decreasing the amount of time to get a reel done, so then he wants me to stay longer, and then gets mad because that means more pay, but I’m not some magical being who can get the fucking cells done within seconds!”
Grant leans forward in order to see the figure finally reach the floor. But instead of stopping, his footsteps march right toward the desk. Unafraid despite the fact he’s gone out of sight with nothing but a voice telling the being who could crush him beneath a shoe where he is.
“So I tried to talk to him, and he got upset so I got upset. I shouldn’t have but I couldn’t stop myself from yelling.”
Henry makes it past the desk, finally back in line of sight. Yet the human continues to approach him despite the shadow being cast.
“And then...and then Sammy joined in because we were being loud. He was upset at both of us, so I started to feel gained up on, until finally I just ran off before they could tell me to stay.”
The teenager huffs as he stands with his arms crossed. Looking as if the tension in his shoulders finally left. Aims a thoughtful expression up at attentive blue eyes almost directly above.
“I know it ain’t fair doing it especially because I started it. I just get overwhelmed, so when the thought of escaping comes I just take it. Ya won’t tell Drew I hide in here, will ya?”
That’s when Grant realizes he’s supposed to speak. When an incredibly fragile being marched his way up to a catastrophic giant despite never showing any signs of having interacted with the larger counterparts before. After pouring his heart out about something that’s clearly weighted heavily on him for a while and needing to feel supported when those he looks up to most aren’t helping.
“You hide in my office?”
Grant can’t help but feel indignant at the fact his space has apparently been invaded before. A bit terrified at the fact he could’ve walked in on a previous morning and not known a human was sitting only inches away from getting crushed.
Henry bites his lip. Looks away in shame. “...yes.”
The teenager certainly wasn’t expecting a hand to carefully sweep him up going based on the terrified scream. But while none of them have met a giant, Grant has certainly met his own fair share of humans. Is well trained in the art of keeping them safe while giving them what they want and yet he’s not distracted.
Another shriek erupts as Henry is carefully dropped into his button up’s chest pocket.
“New rule. You can come in here whenever you’d like, but not when I’m not here, and not without telling me.”
Grant grabs his long forgotten pen before glancing down at his companion staring up at him in awe. “I-I can?”
“I don’t mind you being in here,” the accountant mumbles. He scowls when it becomes clear he lost his place. Hopefully he won’t have to backtrack too far... “I just have to know where you are.”
He pauses as his pocket is kicked at until Henry finally rights himself in order to stand up. “You’re the best Cohen!”
“Mhmm.”
“Even if you are a bit scary.”
Henry ducks down before a look can be aimed toward him. Unfortunately, being in a pocket means a finger poking him in retaliation can’t be fled from. “Only when teenagers have snuck into my office.
“You never have to be scared of me, though.”

True story: I first began college at a university in New York(for context, I am from Maine). About a week or two into February in my first year in New York, I began to get a little concerned because I noticed the snow was beginning to melt and go away at a fairly rapid pace.
After about a week of observing this with growing concern, I finally just flat out asked my two college roommates, "Is it just me, or is the snow melting really early this year?" My roommates were from Pennsylvania and Oregon respectively. They both gave me an odd look and said, "No, the snow melting in February is perfectly normal." Me: ...Oh. (Me, Internally: "Must be a Maine thing.")
