so ummm. headcanon that the reason why rikki declares 'zane bennett's a pig' before we ever even see them interact in canon is bc they had a mildly flirty meet-cute offscreen only for miriam to materialise and demand to know why the guy she's dating is coming on to the new girl. hope this helps
#it's also rikki's first ever line of dialogue btw. if you even fucking care#i do think that if this happened zane probably was more like the zane rikki gets to know in private not the obnoxious rich kid who bullied#her bestie. at least before miriam appeared he was probably being sweet and nice. take my hand do you SEE the vision#h2o just add water#.txt#h2o#zikki

What do Charlotte and Rikki have in common?
Thanks for the ask, but heads up, this ended up way longer than I meant it to, so...
I hold the headcanon that they eventually got together in their adult years, once they've matured. Obviously, we only know what really became of Rikki thanks to Mako Mermaids, but even that you have to take with a grain of salt, not just because it's unclear if it's a true sequel, but because what Rikki says happened, and what happened in the show are different.
I will say that I think the two had more in common than they realize, maybe not in interests (that we can tell because both Rikki and Charlotte aren't given many interests outside of what's on the screen), but in personality.
We know Rikki is loyal and independent, with a loner streak to her. The same, I argue, can be said of Charlotte.
Charlotte shows incredible loyalty, mostly (from what we see) to Lewis, but the girls for the few episodes she was at least trying to be their friend. They both don't take kindly to someone messing with either them, or someone they care about. For all that we like to be mad at Charlotte for nearly "exposing" their secret for what she was doing to Nate after he, you know, physically attacked Lewis, we seem to forget that Rikki showed no qualms about doing the same things.
But what I really want to touch on is that they're lonely. Now, we know Rikki has Emma and Cleo, and later Zane, but she voices multiple times that she's more of a loner, and finds people liking her akin to being fenced in. She probably wouldn't have stayed such strong friends with the two if they hadn't become mermaids. Maybe they would have, but we don't know, because we don't know Rikki pre-mermaid. And when she's moonspelled, she's convinced that everyone will eventually leave her, or she'll hurt them. Maybe it has something to do with her mother leaving and her and her dad moving around a lot; it's left her with some issues she can't move past. My point is, she's a lonely person, and if she and the others had a falling out for any reason, that probably didn't help.
Now, Charlotte. We don't see a lot of Charlotte sans Lewis, so we can't really be sure what she's like on her own, so I have to draw conclusions. We know she's in drama club, has a job of some sort, and apparently knew everyone she invited to Lewis's party her whole life (even though she apparently moved and considering Lewis didn't know them I dount they're classmates, so I don't know where they came from). She seems to be fairly independent though, I get that vibe from her.
But I think she's a lonely person too. She went too hard and too fast into that relationship with Lewis, to the point where I'd argue it was either her first crush ever, oooor she was trying to convince herself she didn't like girls. Personally, I think when she was talking to Cleo when they first met, Charlotte felt an attraction, but when Lewis walked over she transferred it to him because that was easier to understand.
(I'd like to clarify real quick that I headcanon literally everyone under the LGBT+ umbrella)(except Sophie. She was painfully straight)
And we never see her actually with anyone else, just going to Lewis, and she tries so hard to be friends with the others when she became a mermaid you'd think she didn't have anyone else. It reads to me like Charlotte is desperately alone, and looking dor companionship anywhere she can. And unfortunately, it's with people who don't want her, reject her, and make it clear they never wanted anything to do with her in the first place.
So, given all that, why would I ship Rikki and Charlotte? Because they're going to grow up. To be candid, I ship Emma and Rikki as teens, as they are in the show, but grown up? Entirely different ball game. They'll be more mature, and know themselves more. Maybe Rikki will realize she was top hateful towards Charlotte, and maybe Charlotte will realize that she was too possessive and territorial.
So, yup, there it is!

1, 9 and 25 for the tv show/movie ask!
TOP FIVE TV SHOWS: This changes a lot but I’ll go with the most consistent ones I can think of!
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Yes, it’s very dated, and yes, Joss Whedon ain’t shit, but this remains one of my all-time favorite shows, and Buffy Summers remains one of my favorite characters, and there are so many episodes I can watch again and again and never get bored. It has a magic to it that even Angel could never quite capture, and I always find myself going back to it when I’m not sure what to watch but just want something that I’ll enjoy.
2. Avatar: the Last Airbender: Obviously, given my blog name, I have a deep and abiding love for this series. Is it perfect? Of course not, and there are some major things I wish were different, but overall it’s an amazing show with fantastic characters and a brilliant overarching plot, and it manages to stand up to modern scrutiny even though it’s been over a decade since it finished airing.
3. The Nanny. To this day, The Nanny is probably my favorite sitcom of all time. It was released in the 90s, but unlike a lot of sitcoms of the era (Friends immediately comes to mind, though they weren’t the worst offender) the vast majority of its humor doesn’t rely on ‘no homo’ jokes or misogyny/transphobic gags. (There are some off-color jokes, of course--it was the nineties. But this is one of the few shows where I can watch 90% of the episodes without cringing.) Most of the humor is centered around Fran’s hilarious antics, and it’s still a show I can put on whenever I need a good laugh, and it will never disappoint.
4. Leverage. I just love this show so much. A bunch of thieves come together for a job with one (1) honest man to give them a plan, and suddenly they’ve become a family who steal from the rich to give to the poor and disenfranchised and I love every since one of them. Even Nate. Plus, the ot3 is real. Hitter Hacker Thief owns my goddamn soul.
5. Person of Interest. Listen, it was a fantastic show, and yeah it got a little weird near the end, and also Joss Carter deserved better, but it had two of the most fucking cathartic and viscerally satisfying villain deaths I have ever seen in my life. “Oh, no, I’m not gonna kill you--I’m just gonna watch.” and “Now I surrender.” Just.... poetic fucking cinema, ok???
TOP FIVE CHARACTERS: Same deal, this is a list that will change frequently, but these are my most consistent faves:
1. Elena Gilbert from The Vampire Diaries. Surprising absolutely no one who was around for my TVD fandom days, or who has seen me talking about anything TVD related, Elena fucking Gilbert is my girl forever and she deserved so much better. From the show and from the gods forsaken fandom. I’m not gonna get into it cause I don’t need to be dropping thousands of words for an ask meme post, but evidently Elena was the harbinger signaling my love for orphaned brunettes with doe eyes and pain hidden behind a smile, but I just love her so goddamn much and I always will.
2. Buffy Summers from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She saved the world. A lot. She’s my absolute favorite character from BtVS and frankly she deserved better, too--fuck absolutely everyone after Empty Places--but I just... love her so much. And her arc in season 6 means so much to me as someone constantly struggling with depression and ptsd (mine is related to childhood trauma, but that’s not beside the point). Buffy is far from perfect, and she makes mistakes, but she does the job literally no one else can do, and she’s so incredibly strong. I can’t imagine going through what she went through and not completely breaking down.
3. Emma Swan from Once Upon a Time. Ok, so not a brunette, but still a woman with severe abandonment issues who grew up believing she was an orphan and kept being punished by the show, and who definitely deserved better. (No, I’m not over the ending to season 4, and I never will be.) My one comfort is knowing that she fell in love with a man who loved and cherished and appreciated her just as much as she deserved, and she got to live a long and happy life with him and their daughter.
4. Katara from Avatar: the Last Airbender. Again probably not a surprise, given my blog, but I just. I love Katara so much. And she deserved so much better than what LoK reduced her to, and where the fuck was her statue, Bryke??? Where????? Anyway, she’s the ultimate Mom Friend who won’t hesitate to cut a bitch if they hurt her friends, and I just think she’s amazing.
5. Rogue from Marvel. Just... every version of her. Rogue was my favorite character from the original X-Men trilogy, which was my first real introduction to Marvel, and she was my favorite character in X-Men: Evolution, and by the time I finally got to actually read some of her comics I loved her even more. While I still love her in the original trilogy I also wish they’d given Anna Paquin more to work with, bc she sure fucking could have done it (and she’s even said she would’ve loved to be able to fly and punch people, and I 100% think she could’ve pulled off Rogue’s natural sass brilliantly), and she’s one of my all-time faves and has been for almost twenty years.
TOP FIVE SHIPS: -laughs nervously- i can only choose five???
1. Katara and Zuko from Avatar: the Last Airbender. Anyone who’s surprised, feel free to stand on your head. >.> LISTEN, OK, JUST LISTEN. Zuko and Katara had an amazing emotional journey in canon, and I love so much how their relationship developed, and there’s so much potential for how they could have grown as a couple and I just. This is why we have fanfic and fanart. (And frankly, I’m glad they weren’t canon--given what was done to the canon ships, I wouldn’t trust Bryke with them. I shudder to think what would’ve happened to Zutara if they were canon and Bryke was in charge of their story.)
2. Veronica Mars and Logan Echolls from Veronica Mars. Listen, we’re just gonna... ignore the last five minutes of 4x08 (and Rob Thomas can fucking bite me). I spent a decade loving these two utter fools and I finally got to see them get fucking married and they are going to live long and happy lives and Veronica’s always gonna Veronica but Logan loves her and she loves him and they’ll work through any problems they have together like mature, rational adults, and they’ll keep solving mysteries cause trouble sticks to V like a bad rash and Logan will always be there to help her, and nothing can take that away from me.
3. Emma Swan and Killian Jones from Once Upon a Time. Killian’s redemption arc is probably second only to Zuko’s, and I fucking love how much he loves Emma Swan. It’s what she deserves. They build each other up and love and cherish each other so goddamn much and I still get choked up just thinking about them. (Usually I pretend that their wedding went off without a hitch and s7 didn’t happen because there was REALLY no need. This trend of shows continuing after their female leads bail needs to stop, I’ve literally never seen it end in anything except the show being panned for however many seasons it ran after the lead’s departure, and rightfully so.)
4. Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. The show did them so fucking dirty in the later seasons, but fuck if those first four seasons of amazing development don’t still fuck me up. And however much TVD ran itself into the ground, I will always have Elena, and Delena, and my love for them despite how awful the show became.
5. Rikki Chadwick and Zane Bennett from H2O: Just Add Water. Season 3 can bite me, Rikki and Zane were happy together and Zane had so much growth from the jackass he was at the beginning of season 1, and no way would he have cheated on Rikki even for a moment. They deserved so much better my gods.

thinking about the h2o girlies as magical girls on this day
cleo in a cute sparkly blue outfit like her locket, or maybe purple since emma wears blue, too. she is the leader of the group since the shy, reserved one tends to be thrust into this position in magical girl media, and honestly i would love this for her. has powers over hydrokinesis, and also aerokinesis, so her element is air. idk i like to think that, since she's the leader, the girlies are all more powerful when she's with them? or mayhaps she is the only one able to trigger the magical girl transformation with her locket or sth. given her aerokinesis she is definitely the most proficient at flying too
emma definitely wears a pale blue get-up, maybe with white or silver accents like her locket. she has ice and snow powers obvi, and is able to control clouds and storms with cleo and rikki's help. definitely takes to being a magical girl easily, but struggles with cleo being the main decision-maker of the group since she sees herself as a leader. water is her element, and i can totally see her with healing abilities à la katara avatar the last airbender. i think reckoning with these powers would help her overcome her jealousy and control issues with cleo, since emma is deeply compassionate at her core, seeing herself as someone who helps others above all else
rikki for sure has an adorable red 'fit, mayhaps with accents of orange or black. her element is fire, a pyrokinetic queen who can conjure up lightning in an instant. she probably takes to being a magical girl the easiest out of the three of them. she thinks the transformation is the coolest thing to ever happen to them, maybe to anyone, while cleo and emma struggle with the secrecy and their new roles within the dynamic. def starts dating zane in secret and hates having to conceal her powers from him
i am an earthbender!bella truther first and a person second, so i am giving miss girl earth powers. she can create earthquakes and manipulate flowers and plants too, because i say so. she probably has a green locket and an outfit to match. i'm gonna give charlotte powers over quintessence, the fifth element, like fellow redhead extraordinaire will vandom; she is able to shoot miscellaneous power bolts from her hands, can speak to animals, and animate inanimate objects, especially those that are electric. a purple locket and matching sparkly outfit is necessary (or pink, if cleo wears purple)
i notice lewis and zane wear a lot of white and black respectively, so if (and that's a very big if) either are involved in the magic of it all, they definitely wear the two opposing colours. not sure what their powers might be but they definitely both deserve midriff-exposing, wing'd outfits too. if lewis has powers they are definitely something science-oriented, while zane is a proficient engineer in canon, so perhaps he could be like an atla-type metalbender? i do like the idea of lewis and zane as accompaniments to charlotte's powers, since they are both 'additions' to the group and arguably could be sympathetic to her, too
where the 1950s girlies fit into this whomst knows. thanks for coming to my insomnia-induced rant 🥰
#ms. chatham the ancestral magical girl probably gives cleo gracie's locket and appoints her leader of the group??? much 2 think about#h2o just add water#.txt#h2o

H2O: Just Add Water, Season 2, Episode 21, And Then There Were Four
Things my girlfriend and I thought during this episode:
- “I can’t stop thinking about mermaids.” Me, looking at my various mermaid tree ornaments, my new mermaid nail polish, mermaid movies, mermaid lockscreen picture: “Haha, what is she talking about?”
- Again, it is so clear that Charlotte desperately misses her grandmother, and finding new information about her, especially something that seems impossible, would of course make her want to know more about her. But of course the other girls believe it’s just about them, because god forbid they talk to or know about Charlotte so they could learn that
- GF: Oh my god, I just now realized they’re at school. I thought this took place over one gigantic Phineas and Ferb summer
- I made the mistake of looking at the comments again. Christ. I know it’s a well established rule that the YouTube comment section will always disappoint you, but man, imagine that much of a... I don’t even know what, to act like a teenage girl whose only crime is being a little too overbearing and dating their favorite character’s ex-boyfriend is on par with Hitler or something. It’s like no one watching it has any other opinion about this show other than, Wow, Charlotte is a fat gross loser that I wish would die
- Like, I don’t even hate Kylo Ren or Snape this much, and they’re monsters I hate very much
- My girlfriend keeps comparing the three main characters to Walter White in terms of bad people who think they’re the good guys
- And I want to get this off my chest, real quick: I don’t hate these characters, I’m just ticked off that they’re acting the way they are. You’re telling me that hard-working, level-headed, kind, fair play Emma would be totally on board with not giving people a chance, and bullying a defenseless girl? You’re telling me that super sweet, generous, heart of the group Cleo who was heartbroken watching her friends fight, would hate someone just because they’re dating her ex, and use her powers to make their lives hell while spitting venom every chance she gets? You’re telling me that Rikki, who knows what it’s like to be disliked simply because no one takes a chance to know her, who didn’t let her own friends go to her house and meet her dad until nearly a year after knowing them because she was afraid to be judged by them, would encourage and instigate the bullying of someone who has shown time and time again to be her friend, then give super villain-esque speeches about using their magic for petty revenge? I’m sorry, but no. I’m not asking everyone to simply be besties automatically, or for everyone to act like they’re Care Bears. I’m asking for these characters that we know and love, to be the characters we know and love. Because what are we gaining by just blindly hating with a ruthless amount of venom a teenage girl who has not done anything? Nothing. And no, I don’t accept that “They’re teenagers,” excuse. This isn’t real life, this is a television show where everything is scripted. They could have written this to have a genuine growth to everyone. Look at the YouTube comments and tell me that it’s not glaringly clear that not writing a scene where everyone recognizes their mistakes and behaviors and work to better themselves while apologizing to those they’ve wronged didn’t have an impact. I’m seeing comments by people who are apparently fully matured adults still hating Charlotte with gusto that they’re disgustingly proud of. And why? Because a scripted show where they controlled the framing and what is done, showed people being villainous as in the right. Cleo, Emma, and Rikki don’t grow this season, don’t mature except into characters I do not recognize. And the fact that I am apparently shouting this into a void that just makes me sad. I just... I loved this show. I do love it. It’s just... watching it again, I wish the second season was better. It could’ve been better, and where it’s not, we could have discussions.
- Okay, glad I got off my chest. My girlfriend was putting Halloween decorations up and we had to pause it for a little while.
- Oh my god, seriously, I don’t see pictures of mermaids and automatically think they’re real. These people are so paranoid if they went to one of those sea park shows with mermaid actors they’d probably lose their freaking minds
- Max is the only person who has treated Charlotte like a decent human being this entire season. She should’ve found him earlier, I bet everything would’ve turned out better. Like, he knew the importance of keeping the mermaid secret, yet he knew that she deserved to know the truth.
- OHMYGOD so much could be resolved if you would just TELL HER THE TRUTH
- I THINK SHE DESERVES THE TRUTH AT THIS POINT
- YES CHARLOTTE, LEAVE. YOU DESERVE BETTER. YOU DESERVE TO BE ANGRY ABOUT THE LYING. YOU DESERVE THE TRUTH. YOU HAVE A SUPERHUMAN AMOUNT OF PATIENCE TO GO ON THIS LONG KNOWING YOU’RE BEING LIED TO AND STILL STAY.
- GF: So far, all the drama could’ve been avoided by not contradicting her finding out her grandma’s a mermaid, instead of telling her it was crazy, they could’ve played along with the discovery Me: But then it could lead her to discovering there’s mermaids. GF: Yeah, but it doesn’t link back to the three at all Me: Good point. I mean, what does that give her? Knowledge that mermaids are real and that’s it. Not even plural mermaids. Just a singular mermaid. Then again, she would want to know how it happened, and probably find Mako anyway. GF: That’s still a very long stretch to link it back to the other three
- She’s making her way to the moon pool, and knows the way because of the one time Cleo was moonspelled and showed her the way
- God damn Don, I love you. “Don’t tell me, you’re here for the full moon too?”
- I know I said this before, but they are definitely freaking out more about Charlotte knowing about one mermaid but keeping it quiet than they are about Zane who in the first season was shouting off about mermaids and how he was hunting them every second he could. They’re freaking more about this than they did about Dr. Denman, who literally kidnapped them.
- Wow, Cleo, why don’t you do cartwheels over them almost breaking up
- Ugh. Will the show please decide if Lewis wants to be in this relationship or not? Because he constantly flip flops on the subject while his friends trashtalk her and it’s all blamed on Charlotte
- Lewis: I feel like I’m lying to her. GF: You are lying to her! Lewis: No, no, I am lying to her. GF: EXACTLY!
- See, if Cleo had been like this, like her actual character for the rest of the season this could’ve all been avoided.
- GF, as Charlotte sees the moon pool come to life: Oh, they’re not gonna c*ck-block her mermaid powers this time?
- Why don’t they go to bed with eye masks as soon as it gets dark
- Oh, see, she is practically doing her cartwheels at the idea of Lewis breaking up with Charlotte. I take back what I said, that wasn’t Cleo being her kind, supportive self. With that scene, it now kinda reads as Cleo hearing that Lewis wants to do the kind thing and break up with Charlotte to stop hurting her, and Cleo happy because now he can get back together with her. Which is, you know, gross
- GF: This has been an entire season of Charlotte standing sadly at piers
- Lewis: Charlotte, you deserve someone who can be honest with you.” GF: You’re damned right she does!”
- YESSS! Finally, MERMAID CHARLOTTE
- GF: (sarcastically) I love the horror music of Charlotte as a mermaid. WHY IS THIS BAD? What is she gonna do, take over the world? The only consequence is now they’ll have to hang out with her. Me: I think it’s because the show hates her, and god forbid she be happy, like literally everyone would be in this situation. At least she had a choice in being a mermaid
- Me, as the end credits roll: So, what do you think so far, about Charlotte being a mermaid? GF: About time. I hope she brings everything raining down on them like she’s Moriarity
