okay i feel the need to explain the charge blade change that made me lose it and now try to rejoin the swaxe master race (i’ve mained it in 3u and its one of my mains in frontier so i guess i’m making it a main here too)

so in past games, you could charge the shield

the basic combo was load phials—>switch into axe mode—>midway through the elemental discharge animation press the charge button and one other button simultaneously—>charge the shield

from there once you reload phials again, your elemental discharge gets amped. once either discharge is complete, you switch back to sword mode, which is great since you’re going to need to reload

in wilds, you can’t charge the shield anymore. when pulling off an elemental discharge, you have to wait until the animation is over and have a very slim window to do a follow up, which takes more time. regardless of which you pull off, you’re stuck in axe mode until you manually switch back which does leave a big blind spot

this change is so painful and is so hard to describe unless you’ve played a terminal amount of charge blade

it’s definitely gotten worse since 4u, with gu’s shield timer mechanic being fairly annoying but at least manageable. then they added the ability to charge the sword which is amazing and by far the best change… and then axe splitter existed. it’s cursed why would you ever make it exist

idk charge blade was never as complicated as people made it out to be, but i stg due to the jokes about it being fairly convoluted in gen 4 challenged capcom to further add mechanic after mechanic that doesn’t benefit the weapon at all and now ruined the flow of the signature attack you’re building towards

i don’t think you need to continuously add new moves to pre existing weapons especially ones with gimmicks. adding guard stuff is nice tho.

insect glaive is probably the only convoluted weapon they improved upon because there’s no more nectar but they sacrificed the funny charge weapon to make it peak
