⭐️MetaDede Week day two: First Meeting.

Once upon a time, a king and a knight teamed up for the greater good. The kingdom's safety at the cost of sleepless nights was a reasonable price.

But, is that really how our story starts? When you're unique on your species you're not that easy to forget.

I think dedede's whole behavior issues stems fundamentally from loneliness/fear of being abandoned so he Has to exercise control over everyone and everything to keep it all under his thumb. SO he gets intensely envious when anyone else is the center of attention. Which is why he can't stand kirby cause everybody Loves kirby. (Including him)

A lot of the stupidass schemes he comes up with are attention seeking. And I think as the show goes on, getting rid of Kirby mostly means just Humiliating him, or trying to find a way to push him to the side, or make him lose popularity.

Having a class-A suck up like Escargoon around fills that niche of needing Someone around all the time, but Escargoon also supplies structure and routine. Genuinely I don't think Dedede knows what to do with himself when Escargoon's not around, which is why he gets so pissed whenever he's Not There for whatever reason. Escargoon manages all the stuff dedede doesn't have the attention for, and makes sure he's sticking to a routine, or managing the "boring" stuff.

You’ve heard of Momranza and Haltmom, now get ready for Dadeleine(s)! Here’s Adeleine with my OCs Tache Doo and Archmage Doo, her fathers. Tache is an artist and Archie is a mage who works for Kracko.

My lore for them and how they ended up raising Adeleine is that Tache and Archie traveled to another planet to study the art and magic there, but during their trip they found a baby Adeleine all alone. They searched around to see if they could find her parents/figure out where she came from, but they soon realized that she was all by herself, so they decided to adopt her and brought her back to Popstar.

Thank @earthykinous for this idea; I saw it in the tags of the first GameSwap and immediately knew I had to give it a try ^^

-Taranza seems like a very ‘devoted’ character, the kind who very easily latches on to personal influences…so as part of the HWC, I think he would be just as involved with the Mother Computer as Haltmann, maybe even more so, just to be able to share something with him. Just in general, he’d be agonized about his father not recognizing him anymore, and desperate to prove his worth despite it, trying to replace familial love with company loyalty in a VERY toxic-positive way. ^^ And besides, if he uses that control helmet often enough, maybe he’ll lose all his painful memories too… And in this scenario…maybe the reason Haltmann dies is because he sacrifices himself to Star Dream to save Taranza somehow, finally recognizing his son when he realizes he’s about to lose him again. OR, maybe he just feels like Taranza is too important to lose without knowing why, leaving only Taranza to bear the true emotional weight of that sacrifice.

-I think Susie is a more mature character than Taranza– despite her sad backstory, she seems to handle her situation well during the game, and doesn’t even seem that affected by Haltmann’s death post-game. If it’s not maturity, at the very least it’s a much lower level of emotional attachment.

So how would she go about dealing with her crush mutating into a tyrannical insect queen? I think she would actually just lose respect for her, and end up turning on her.

Despite staying by her side and aiding in her conquest, she would secretly be plotting her downfall: praising and obeying Sectonia to her face, while trying to undermine her in the background…keep your friends close and your enemies closer, as they say. Rather than mistakenly capturing the wrong ‘Hero of the Lower World’, Susie would’ve picked Dedede on purpose, knowing that Kirby was the ‘real’ hero who would come to save him AND defeat Sectonia. She’d then pretend to oppose him throughout the game, throwing challenging bosses his way to prepare him to face the Queen…and finally, she’d reveal her true motivations once Dedede has been freed.

But maybe, just to bring back the stakes and drama…maybe Sectonia overhears this reveal, and enters the scene. Through the ensuing argument, we could learn a bit about how Sectonia became evil in the actual game, and have Susie basically call her out, admitting to her treachery and daring her Queen to do something about it. To throw away the last shred of their former friendship, once and for all.

Which Sectonia does, of course, and from there the rest of the game could proceed like normal. Only, I think Susie’s characterization as a tough-yet-caring friend and a twist-hero would make her return with the Miracle Fruit a lot more satisfying. Rather than failing to see how evil Sectonia had become until it personally affected her, she knew exactly how far-gone she was, and put her life on the line to try and wake Sectonia up.  And despite losing that gamble, despite witnessing her friend choose to become a monster in more ways than one, she survived and came back to help us end the battle. ^^ I think that would be really heartwarming~

i tried making a kirby food-themed AU some years ago too & honestly u are executing this concept a whole lot better than i did. one thing i would like to share is Kracko being made out of cotton candy & his spikes are the cones. & also i'm just a bit curious as to how you'd design a few other characters like the poppy bros or bosses from kirby's adventure =-)

1st Day: Dream. I imagined a mini Bibby sleeping, then in their dream he saw Nightmare again but in a status that him isn't powerful anymore and now he's just a wondering soul who lives in the dream world.

2nd Day: Revenge. I Initially drew a hella cool scene, but after I analyzed my own drawing, I thought it was more like an AU so I made this new one based on Revenge of the King.

3rd Day: Song. When I read the prompt, I instantly thought in the song that Susanna sings to her father, but for more originality I drew her with a beautiful dress, like if she was in a restaurant thing, presenting her talent to the guests.

4th Day: Headcanon (TW: mental illness, abandonment, disorder mentioned)

My more personal headcanon is... Well, Magolor is Hyness' son, but Hyness, suffering from schizophrenia, unconscious, abandoned his son when he was a kid. Mago for this trauma, he developed a mythomaniac disorder. But several years later, no one recognizes each other.

5th Day: Royalty. This is my favorite one I've made!! I loved a lot how they both look, look so... Cool, I don't know how to describe how much I liked the result. Really I did this drawing? Ok no...

I thought something about (Take it as a HC). In reality, they were a couple/marriage. It's just... The power (and beauty) went to Sectonia's head, forgetting her past and what she experienced with her closest person, Taranza. But he never stopped to love her despite her drastic change.

6th Day: Ancient. I had a minimum crisis because, I didn't have any idea to do this one, but I searched in the wiki something related to ancient things and there was Nova...

7th Day: Ability. I didn't know what to do in these, but I asked my boyfriend about his favorite ability and he said the poisoning one, so what occurred to me draw it but with the doctor one, like contrasting personalities (There's a very very very small reference ;]).

8th Day: Phantom. I love to draw Dedede, that's all. Well, it occurred to me because when I was reading the prompts, I remembered the phantom guys from Forgot💀 land (Lovely game, I've been playing it and I loved it). I found it interesting to use these neon colors on him.

9th Day: Magic. I love top-hat fellas, more than you could imagine.

Here's the drawing I was working on!!!

I drew this after seeing someone mention a Rootin' Tootin' Gunslingin' Susie and I had to draw her. You know when you see such a great idea that you have to draw it, like you have to. Yeah, that's how I felt... I meant to make a timelapse of this one but I forgot to turn it on. Funnily enough this is one of those drawings where I ended up adding more and more onto it as I continued. Originally it was just going to be Susie hog-tying Meta Knight against a plain background...but... I ended up getting thoughts like...

"Why would Susie be a cowgirl? What if Susie was a sheriff?"

"Oh, remember those exploitative company towns? Haltmann Works would definitely be one of those!"

"Ah, Sheriff Susie would definitely use a some really long ranged revolver!"

"Meta Knight being a Sheriff is fitting but I want to see him be an outlaw on the side of good!!!"

RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2

I enjoyed it a lot, Tilly, Lenny, Hosea, and Van Der Linde were my favorite characters! I still play it even after finishing the Epilogue and main campaign just to do shit like play poker, go hunting, and so on. I haven't modded it so once I learn to do that, I'll probably play more of it.

Here is my horse, Mon Doux Petit. Yes, he loves stomping birds to death but I love him anyways.

Here is my other horse who, unlike Mon Doux Petit, is a major fucking PUSSY who runs away at the slightest bit of trouble like the disappointment he is. In cowardice, he makes up with being the fastest.

ANYWAYS. Enough rambling, back to the main topic. I bring up this game to talk about the idea of a Wild West Kirby AU. I know, I fucking KNOW there's a new novel that's exactly that but I haven't read it yet and I probably won't. I would prefer to shift my perception and spend hours imaging a Kirby Wild West AU. I dunno, if a friend reads it I'll ask him about it and compare, the novel is probably waaay better than my ideas.

WILD WEST KIRBY AU IDEAS GO!!!

Meta Knight is the leader of a renegade gang of vigilante mercenary cow boys called the Halberd Gang. They're positively revered as much as they are feared! King Dedede would lead a gang of wild bandits known as the Deadly Dee Despots, Bandana Waddle Dee being his right hand man. Unlike Meta Knight's gang, King Dedede's isn't concerned with being upstanding gentleman! As for Kirby, he's the most powerful warrior and leader of his tribe of other puffballs! Kirby and Meta Knight work together quite frequently to take down the constant growth of industrialization by Haltmann Works Company!

Magolor's a shop-keeper in a little town that Taranza is the mayor of.

Can I just say that I love these images from Guest Star Mode in Kirby Star Allies?

I just adore the idea of all the dream friends in the same wave being friends with each other. Star Allies really highlights how friendship is a big thing about the franchise, and I feel like depicting friendship between the members of each wave is a really great wave to illustrate those vibes and it fits really well when considering the members of each wave become available together (Wave 1 as soon as Dream Rod is available, Wave 2 after Dedede's defeat and Wave 3 after Meta Knight's defeat)

Wave 3 friendship is thankfully super popular across the Kirby fandom and I do see a lot of Wave 2 friendship in the fandom as well, but I think Wave 1 friendship is overlooked and deserves more attention. Marx being friends with the Animal Friends and Gooey is a fun concept and to be honest he's not even that particularly out of place with them aesthetic-wise.

I know Marx instead gets lumped with Wave 3 a lot and it makes perfect sense as I sorta do it too, but seeing him hop around with the rest of Wave 1 in that image is just so wholesome I can't help but imagine he's also buddies with them too. There can also be some real shenanigan potential between him and them.

sorry, but i only really have set designs for meta and ddd at the moment but i'd LOVE to do the other characters. i know you didn't explicitly ask for mtdd, but I just couldn't help myself <3

(ill go into more detail about my choices under the cut, I just love to yap)

okay now that ur stuck here with me, I'm gonna start with my design headcanons and inspirations.

Meta Knight:

Okay for Meta I wanted go with a more slender-ish, short-statured body will a bit of a baby face. I really tried leaning into a bit for vampiric features like fangs, desaturated colors, and the signature vampire bites (although these ones are just moles for the aesthetic). I wanted to give him a good chunk of unique features too like a scar under his right eye, a few beauty marks, pale-white eyes, prominent fangs, like 2c/3a hair (this means curly/wavy incase ur unaware), permenant eye bags, and a hooked nose for good measure. Ski-slope nose meta is evil propaganda which shall not be trusted.

yes yes, i can hear u saying "he looks like a twink" and to that I respond, "well, I'm fucking trying. he looks strange w facial hair to me and also Im a raging lesbian who only draws women over and over again". Also I made him Mexican because have u SEEN the anime dub. its fucking gold. and while I'm not Mexican, I AM colombian and black, so I thought this would be a good time to flex my liberal wokeness and make meta darker than a piece of paper. excuse the egregious anime hairstyle, I like anime and don't get out much.

King Dedede:

Alrighty I REALLY stepped out of my comfort zone here. I'm gonna be honest and say not only do I not draw a lot of men, but I don't draw a lot of men with larger body types like ever so this was definitely a bit of a challenge. god bless the "fat guy" anatomy tumblr post I saved a year ago, it came in clutch. anyways, I wanted to add some traditionally black hairstyles to my kingy king so I did a bit of thinking until I came to a realization. BEARD. LOCS. it was genius. I scrolled thru this guys page on tiktok who also had beard locs but they had jewelry on them and I just thought "wow, el, ur a genius." so I threw them into the design ofc. I like how a few other gijinka designs of ddd give him a long braid in the back. It's very regal. So I did that too but it's a braid made up of locs. Dedede's head is probably extremely heavy from the hairstyle I gave him, but he'll live. To list off some attributes; I gave ddd a wide, flat nose, vibrantly dark skin, like the underbite kind of fangs that u see in werewolves(not sure what it's called exactly? anti fangs??), locs, bushy eyebrows, and blue, tiny pupils. Again, I am VERY happy w/ my resdesign of him since my design of MK didn't change all that much from 2022.

I know I say a whole lot of nothing sometimes, but I'm just so touched somebody out there wanted to see MY gijinka designs. its so funny cuz that's literally what my first ever post was on this app and Its nice to see things come full circle for once. hopefully, you all think Ive improved since then. personally, I think I improved a wee bit, but ill always strive towards improvement so I can have enough talent to consider redrawing the designs I just made, but even better <3

If you're even vaguely familiar with Kirby, there is no doubt in anyone's mind that one of the most iconic abilities is Parasol. It's a unique ability, it gets a ton of merch, and it's cute, to boot!

But when you think about it, there's not a whole lot of enemies for Parasol, is there? There's a lot of enemies that hold Parasols, there's the Parasol itself, which may or may not be sentient, but Parasol doesn't bring a wide variety of enemies to mind like, say, Fire or Spark might.

Believe it or not, there actually are a few enemies that give Parasol that neither HOLD a Parasol nor ARE "just" the Parasol...but they're wholly exclusive to a few games, and have not had a proper reappearance in the games since the SNES era. So, let me introduce you to all of them! Maybe there will even be some you like, or wish would come back!

But first, an honorary mention...

Name: Parasol (Kirby's Dream Land)

Debut: Kirby's Dream Land

You know it, you love it, it's...Parasol?!

That's right! Before it became the ability we all know and love, Parasol actually debuted in the same game Kirby did, which you might note did NOT have copy abilities! Like Waddle Doo and Sir Kibble, this is a classic example of an enemy that had an ability based around it, rather than vice versa.

I want to talk about specifically its iteration in this game, which is a bit different compared to future entries. First off and most noticeably, its appearance is wholly different! The hood is smaller and shaded but with no discernable pattern, the handle is thinner and the hook itself looks more rounded! Secondly, all Waddle Doos and Dees will let go of their parasol once they land, with none spawning while holding them or keeping them when they land anyway.

And another thing: you can't even dang inhale them when they're being held! The Waddler in question will be swallowed, but the Parasol will drift away or, in the Extra Game, even hone in on you! I told you they were debatably sentient! It actually does that in a few future games like Kirby's Adventure, but not nearly as commonly as it did in the original Extra Game. So strange!

OKAY OKAY time for what the post promised you now I promise. Hold my hand (and your Parasol) as I take you through The Parasol Enemies That Time Forgot:

Name: Floaty the Drifter

Debut: Kirby's Dream Land 2

"Floaty the Drifter", not to be confused with Floaty the Cell Core, is such a wonderful name. "Floaty" would already be a sillily obvious name on its own, on par with names like Flamer and Chilly and Cappy, but adding "the Drifter" makes it even moreso. Is that its species? Its title? Is Floaty an individual? Probably not, we see multiple of them in the same level and often, and this is not like Vividria where it's canonically an individual that just so happens to be fought in pairs for gameplay, but it's funny to consider. Imagine if they followed through with other enemies, like "Spikey the Poker", "Burnis the Scorcher", "Elec the Trocuter"…

Floaty the Drifter actually acts as the main provider for Parasol in this game, wholly replacing the titular object itself except for when Kirby uses it. On its own, it doesn't do much floating OR drifting, instead hopping around in its own little world, kind of akin to Cappy, but it lives up to its name when a Waddle Dee holds it, in which...it will just act like a normal Parasol! Wholly and entirely. Even when dropped, it flies off rather than initiate its normal grounded behavior. I think I've heard some of them fly at you when released, but I can't think of any instances of that, and that's still a Parasol behavior anyhow.

As you can tell, Floaty the Drifter's claim to fame is in its unique design, bearing a single mischievous eye and a stark green coloration only seen in artwork. In fact, despite being a one-off mook, this would even grant it its own role in the anime!

Floaty the Drifter, or just "Drifters" as they're called here (I guess it is a species!) are bought by King Dedede in the episode "Escargoon Rules" to attack Escargoon and his mother after presumably being "I'm With Stupid"’d all day. I did not watch the anime! According to the wiki, they're about as fragile as you'd expect a swarm of umbrellas to be, as while they swarm towards and wrap around victims, they are easily KO'd by Fire and knocked away by Kirby's own Parasol ability.

You might be wondering why, exactly, Floaty the Drifter even has one eye in the first place, considering that its role is largely the same as Parasol. To answer that, we'll have to move on to the next creature to feature:

Name: Jumpershoot

Debut: Kirby's Dream Land 2

I bet you never expected an ability like Parasol to have its own, dedicated midboss, did you? And such a sophisticated one, at that! It's even one of the few Kirby characters with toes, for the freaks in the audience!

As you may have guessed, Jumpershoot and, to a lesser extent, Floaty the Drifter are both based on the kasa-obake, perhaps one of the most ubiquitous yokai! And this is despite not really ever having appeared in folktales, if ever. I was always under the assumption that the kasa-obake was a tsukumogami, an umbrella after it had lived for 100 years, but apparently even this isn't set in stone, either!

Jumpershoot first appears in Big Forest, the second world of the game, and guards Coo because...some reason! I don't think it's ever mentioned why the Animal Friends are kidnapped, they kind of just are! And as for Jumpershoot, does he work for King Dedede? Dark Matter? I don't know how employed midbosses are. Mr. Frosty is on the Halberd once.

Our favorite umbrella attacks by jumping and gently falling towards the ground, then makes a rapid, Tornado-like spin around the room that, after a bit, repels attacks! Then, rather than dropping Stars, he throws his own sandal at you that you can shoot back at him! Don't worry, it regenerates, so you don't have to feel guilty for robbing him of footwear!

I really really like Jumpershoot. And apparently, so did Shimomura, because he reappears in Kirby's Dream Land 3, acting much the same but with more detailed sprites! He's such...a cool character, you know? You wouldn't expect a Parasol midboss to be a yokai, of all things, especially one that acts so rowdy! I love him!

Sadly, as much as we'd all love to, there is no game where you can play as Jumpershoot. Tragic, but true! But...you can get a taste, a crumb of its rapid spin attack by having the Parasol ability while riding Coo, which makes Coo spin around invulnerably just as he does! And while he would later find himself joining the foray of midbosses abandoned after Kirby's Dream Land 3, Parasol Coo still appears in Kirby Star Allies, so his soul is still with us...

This would be the end of the road for Jumpershoot, in terms of games, but luckily for Jumpershootheads, he would make one final appearance in a piece of Twitter art, joining a medley of other monsters by spooking Channel PPP! He's still got it!

Sadly, this wraps up the Jumpershoot section of this post, and thusly we have no more Dream Land 2 Parasol enemies to speak of. But don't worry, we still have more parasolic beasts in the next title...

Name: Sasuke

Debut: Kirby's Dream Land 3

Although Floaty had a cute design, it's rather appropriate that the enemy that replaced the Parasol of Kirby's Dream Land would itself get replaced in Kirby's Dream Land 3, isn't it? But Sasuke is no mere living umbrella!

Sasuke's design might bring to mind Bumber for our veteran readers, and its behavior is much the same! It drifts down slowly and steadily, and starts walking back and forth on whatever block it lands on, just like Parasol Waddle Dee, but its hat never detaches, so it will never not give Parasol! Personally speaking, though, I think Bumber is MUCH more cute and memorable...sorry, Sasuke! At least you will always have Naruto to confide in.

Sasuke also made an appearance in the anime, where he's built a lot more like Lololo & Lalala. Here, he draws a gun at King Dedede and Escargoon, an

The oddest Parasol appearance in both looks and functionality, and our final Parasol giver, is Klinko! It looks like it would give Cleaning if anything, with its hat reminiscent of a besom! It doesn't even drift down slowly like every other Parasol enemy does at some point–in fact, while it hops around, it doesn't share any traits with the Parasol ability at all, and is the only Parasol enemy like that! So, why does it give Parasol, then?!

The answer is: it's not wearing an old broom, but actually a straw umbrella, because it's based on yet ANOTHER yokai! Shimomura seemed to think yokai were the future of the Parasol ability, and who wouldn't!

The amefurikozō, unlike the kasa-obake, has a bit more concrete lore, being children that appear in and sometimes cause rainfall, hence why they wear straw umbrellas. This is true of Klinko, too, as it appears in cloudy stages or stages with heavy snowfall! Its Japanese name, Kinko, might also suggest some relation to the separate yokai Yukinko, a child associated with heavy snow, which could also explain its tendency towards icy levels.

It's easy to see why such an unparasolic enemy would not be used any further, but I kind of like them more for it. They're an anomaly! Sure, this is essentially just Floaty the Drifter's hopping behavior, but the lack of any other Parasol attributes than just wearing an umbrella really make it stand out to me! And that's the beauty of these enemies—the longer Parasol goes without any new enemies, the more these guys will always stand out, and that's wonderful, I think!
