Stratus is awake well before his friends on this fine Saturday. He finds himself pacing, bored, around the house, fidgeting and snacking. All the hard work for this evening’s game session, or at least the scheduling, has already been done. Around 2pm, he decides to message Melody to make sure her copy gets installed in time.
MESSAGE TO dreamscrollBunni.
cD: yo Melody u got the game installed?
dB: Good morning, Stratus. Not yet, I’m still waking up.
cD: aight. No need to run advanced setup, the Installer Wizard should run automatically once the disc reads.
dB: Let me eat breakfast and stuff, I’ll let you know when it’s finished. <3
cD: <3
Mr Droidborg goes about some other mundane tasks; a load of laundry, microwaving leftovers for an afternoon lunch. He leaves skûpe open in the background, letting it idle on AKF while he absentmindedly cleans his room and brushes the dog. Around 5:30, Stratus is finishing another snack and decides to gather the group.
MESSAGE TO gravitronsDisrupted.
cD: Noveria. u ready for game night?
gD: Ready as I’ll ever be, I suppose. Did Melody get her copy installed?
cD: indeed, about five minutes ago. waiting on Plats to finish jerkin off, then we’re all ready.
gD: I’ll be fashionably late to the call, I want to eat dinner before we start.
cD: aight.
MESSAGE TO platinumsHunted.
cD: ayo Baked Cakes are u ready to get this party started?
pH: Oh yeah. I got Doritos, dr pepper, and a freshly emptied ballsack. Let’s do this.
cD: swag. who’s hosting the call tonight?
pH: I presume your setup is the most capable. It did pretty well for movie night, my connection tends to shit out with more than two people.
cD: aight. Nova said she would be fashionably late, Melody’s finishing dinner, so it’ll be a tiny sausage fest til the girls show up.
<cloudsDroidborg started a call.>
pH: AYOOOO
cD: sup
pH: Not shit, insofar. Based on the looks of the launcher I have… uh no idea what to expect from this game.
cD: yeah same. i’m gonna boot it up and see if it does anything since all four copies are installed.
pH: Alright. Let’s see if the Ol iMac can handle a ‘95-esque launcher and a voice call.
<cloudsDroidborg invited dreamscrollBunni to the call.>
dB: Hey guys
pH: Hi Melody
cD: sup cutie. The launcher says “waiting for all players”
dB: Nova’s not here yet?
cD: “fashionably late,” she said.
pH: She’s still having dinner. It’s only 7:10, by the strictest etiquette, she still has five minutes.
dB: My game’s running. It didn’t take very long to install, which is strange since my computer is undoubtedly the oldest.
pH: Yeah, this software is kinda strange. There wasn’t anything malignant in the installation files, but it does look like there’s some kind of “mobile” “interface.”
cD: the strangeness continues. ohp, hold on.
<cloudsDroidborg invited gravitronsDisrupted to the call.>
gD: Good evening, everyone.
pH: 7:13, just in time.
dB: Hello! We’re waiting for you.
cD: Baker tell me more about this “mobile” “interface”
pH: That’s really all I know-
gD: Launching it now.
pH: Just one folder nested in the launcher-
X X X X
The power blips. Stratus’ room goes dark, the fans go silent, the call cuts. For exactly 1.5 seconds. Except his monitor stayed on, speakers still rgb-ing.
cD: . . . uh …
gD: Certainly an odd phenomenon.
pH: did my power just blip, what the hell,
dB: . . . you guys too? My computer didn’t shut off, but everything else did.
gD: Same here.
cD: yeah, no noise from the tower, but the monitor and speakers stayed on.
pH: My screen flickered a little. There’s no storm or anything.
(unknown Handsome British Voice):
Welcome to SBurbisk.
cD: (its pronounced sburbishk?)
Quiet for a moment, Mr Clouds. This is quite an impressive grouping.
pH: (haha thank you)
If you four could all navigate to your SBurbisk window, we can begin. I will be here to provide tooltips and minimal guidance along your adventure.
First thing’s first, you’ve all been provided an assessment of your current outfit, and since it appears most of you are in your pyjamas, I’ve given some suggestions to increase your Adventure-Readiness. Now go have fun.
One last thing: Plug your phone into your computer while you gear up. That’ll be all. :)
gD: Oh, I like them already,
dB: My dress is pants.
pH: . . . what in the fresh fuck kinda game is this.
cD: THERES LIFEHACKS IN HERE , , ,
——– 0 – – 0 ——– 0 – – 0 ———->
Nova stands in her bedroom, studying her own scenery after her first view of the equipment loadout got her head spinning. She’s zoned out a bit, wondering where she left that one cute bra, thinking it got dark earlier than usual, even for mid-October.
The same handsome British voice comes through her laptop speakers.
“Hey. That pink bralette you’re looking for is in the pile of clothes on your bed,”
“Okay, What The Fuck,” Nova exclaims, shortly digging through her blanket nest to find exactly the article she was searching for between two heavy throw blankets.
“SBurbisk has an omniscient sort of Narrator to help you along your quest. The tall guy decided to turn this feature off from the jump, so that is an option,” the Brit adds.
“Do you have a name, handsome sounding vaguely British narrator?” asks Nova, hoping for a matching pair of socks in her blanket nest.
“Not yet. Choose a nickname you think suits me.”
Nova ponders for a moment. She plugs her smartphone into her computer while she laces up her adventuring boots. “How about Jophiel?”
“How appropriate.” Jophiel chuckles. Nova sees her laptop, her phone, and the cord connecting the two glow pink like an old neon sign.
“Woah. Did you do that?” she asks of her laptop speakers.
“Not exactly. I am merely a disembodied voice. SBurbisk has many other constructs for you and your friends to discover.”
“So it really is ‘SBurb-ishk,’” Nova half-asks, presuming the pink glow indicates that her phone is synced into the game. She ejects the corresponding disc from her laptop’s taskbar before unplugging it. The game window blinks.
“Sweet. My phone is Good Quality,” Nova remarks as she clicks through her updated equipment screen.
“Congratulations,” Jophiel remarks, now speaking from the phone in Nova’s pocket, “you are now Adventure Ready.”
She clicks through to the still-running skûpe call.
gD: I’m gonna head out and grab a pack of smokes. Let’s see where this adventure takes me.
<gravitronsDisrupted has left the call.>
She closes the chat program, hesitating a moment to wonder if the call might be an important element of the game’s function.
“Hey, Jophiel?”
“Yes, Miss Nova?”
“Will I cease to exist or anything bonkers like that if I close this game window?”
Jophiel chuckles again. “No, but you should leave it open for the time being. Your friends don’t have their mobile interface installed.”
“Alright, whatever. Adult life is already so godamn weird.” She shrugs, switching off the lights as she leaves.
She stops cold outside her door, the air thick in a way that feels like the humidity were made from . . . from jelly? Her house looks normal, aside from the glowing pink house icon floating above the front door. THe walkway seems typical as well, though the grass has been replaced by dense sand. She kicks the ground; the sand looks dry, and behaves as though it were wet.
Something floats by too close to her face; she swings at it instinctively, her fist connecting with something cold and squishy.
“Well that wasn’t very nice.”
“AH!!!! What the fuck?!”
“You punched me in the head :c “
“You startled me! I’m not usually assailed by… Wait a minute, are you a jellyfish.”
“Indeed I am.”
“Jesus H Breckenridge Christ. Please tell me I’m not actually in Bikini Bottom.”
“Bitch wtf is ‘bikini bottom?’ This is Land of ‘Schrooms and Cephalopods.'
“HUH. , , , I suppose you’re some technicality of cephalopod, then?”
“Uh… yes?”
“I’m sorry I punched you, little jelly.”
“I’ll be okay. Can I go on your adventure with you?”
Jophiel chimes in, “There aren’t very many people on this planet. It would be wise to befriend the creatures that do inhabit it.”
“Hm. I suppose you could accompany me to the smoke shop. Wait, Jophiel, did you say Planet.”
“Yes.”
“Fuuuuuck, cmon! I better not miss my Spanish Guitar final.”

SKSE64
MODS IM FOR SURE KEEPING/MAYBE KEEPING
To keep the bulletpoint list hopefully short: Patch/QoL mods that fix vanilla issues (i.e. USSEP, D13, SMIM, the like), follower mods (save for Miraak since S:EC seems to have something planned for him), mods done to tweak the Werewolf experience, combat & boss difficulty mods, Mods that overhaul NPCs dialogue/AI (guards, citizens in general), weather mods, music mods, & mods that make Argonians & Khajiit look a bit more fun are for sure staying! Any civil war mods I have might be trimmed off, debating on how S:EC approaches reworking the secondary story quest. That being said:
BarenziahQM - For the sole fact it makes that quest soo much better
Paarthunax Dilemma - a solid maybe? S:EC is also gonna do something bout this part of the Blades quest if I read their reddit post correctly, so I might just leave it disabled & see what happens first
Hearthfire Multiple Adoptions - yes pls let me make Tei a papa to every Skyrim also I need it to make Kaidan’s home available for the kiddos
Derkeethus - makes him a more decent follower but eeeh idk i rarely take him out often so it might be snipped itsa maybe
Destructible Display Cases- sometimes i’m too lazy to lockpick
No more Stupid Dog/Immersive Good Boy- Meeko is a good boy I should be able to tell him & also my kids + housecarls shouldn’t call him stupid >:(
More Argonians- I just like these funky reptiles (used to have More Khajiits too but it always would CTD at a certain inn w it installed. F)
Alternate Start- Makes things more spicy
CH- Sorta QoL for the skyrim horses, for sure staying
FTA&C- Again, makes things more spicy, but in the event of some group jumping you while traveling
Vigilant- Maybe?? It’s fun as hell but not really in character for Jeer-Tei. Perhaps re-enabled later as an end game thing alongside BS: Atmora whenever that comes out?
Shout- makes cooldowns more bearable so itsa keep
DSF- also a QoL mod
Immersive Movement + More Tavern Idles + Better Jumping + Immersive Encounters
AFT- big traveling groups are always fun/it makes it easier to horde keep all of Skyrim’s dogs
Race Menu + Racial BM SE- falls under “makes Argonians more fun” like some other argonian focused mods I guess? RBM plays around w everyones height and RM just lets you go buck wild (in a sfw way! unless...yknow you got nsf/w mods i guess) doesn’t hurt to specify tho lol
Alternate Convo Camera- Really fun!! Despite it pointing out how short my LDB is
Deadly Dragons- Makes fighting the Dovah much more fun w all the (honestly not as canon) diversity in looks & abilities! Can recommend, not too harsh on older devices either from what I know
Death is Highly Overrated
Play as a Dragon + Monster Race Fix- another hard maybe because well...you turn into a dragon which isn’t too immersive I guess?? Probably another “end game” mod for Tei
MODS IM EYEING/WANT TO GET (this post is so long so far I’m sorry)
Survival Mods!! (iNeed is one I’m looking at & maaaybe Frostfall?? idk i’ll have to see about that one i heard its not too fun for the Argonian gang) P much looking for something that’ll make exploring the wilds of Skyrim less of a bore
Camping + Hunting based mods! I’ve been eyeing Campfire & Hunterborn specifically, but open to any other suggestions. Same reasoning as survival mods, makes it more fun to travel! Plus, I’m going for an in character experience, it would fit Tei!
Khash & Auri follower mods. I’ve been eyeing these two for a bit, but from my experience w adding Kaidan & Lucien late game, I miss a lot of fun stuff D: So I’m planning on nabbing them for a fresh playthrough under S:EC (or at least, Khash! I uh...don’t know how to download mods manually/always mess it up & Auri doesn’t have the option to let Vortex do all the work unfortunately, but we’ll see!)
Maybe some nice armor mods?? Again nothing too heavy to handle but just to add some flavor(tm)
Saw a mod that made Animal AI a bit more realistic, might nab that
long shot but a mod that lets everyone refer to your LDB via they/them pronouns would be cool too but idk feel like it’d be a nightmare to attempt modder wise. Honestly i’d love the idea of having a mod or two that’ll let me confirm that Tei is trans themselves in game (3DNPC has a quest where you can say your character is, but that’s about it to my knowledge)! Buuut I’m unsure to search for any cause: 1) I don’t want to deal w transphobes ruining my searches & my day on Nexus & 2) Any curious google/bing searches keep bringing up Lovers lab & mmmm no thank you.
and uh...so far that’s the base of it? idk im still looking around & I might have to add/drop some things depending on like...how much my current computer can handle, Not grabbing any fancy graphics mods, that’s for sure lol
#skyrim#rambling#i actually have more stuff in the modlist according to vortex but its mainly older disabled versions of enabled mods i've yet to get rid of#also disabled/uninstalled mods i have yet to drop#speaking of fun argonian mods can...can we get one to extend the dragonpriest masks for our snoots please#i feel bad for my guy everytime i put on one of them.....their poor nose.....

[ ObiRyū October | Day Twenty | Astronaut ] [ @abyssaldespair ] [ Uchiha Obito, Suigin Ryū, Hatake Kakashi, Nohara Rin ] [ Verse: Best Years of Your Life ]
[ Previous ] [ Next ]
“Happy birthday, Obito!”
“Wh-?” Stepping into the hallway, Obito immediately finds himself staggering back. A wild Ryū has decided to tackle him, arms around his neck as he wraps his own around her waist to help hold her up. “Uh...hi?”
Standing nearby, both Kakashi and Rin snicker. “Did you forget what day it is?” the latter asks. “We thought she was gonna explode waiting to say hello this morning!”
Ryū retreats as Obito sets her down, cheeks pink and expression sheepish. “I had a feeling you would have forgotten…”
Obito, also embarrassed, itches the back of his neck. “I might’ve remembered if I wasn’t running late this morning…”
“As you are every morning,” Kakashi replies, perking a brow as Obito balks.
“Oh leave him alone, Kakashi,” Ryū sighs. “At least for today of all days? Tease him any other time than today.”
“But today is the best time for -”
Rin, turning to him, gives him a look...and he quiets.
“I got you a present!” Ryū then offers, pulling a wrapped parcel from her backpack. “Do you want to open it now, or...wait until after class?”
“I can open it now!” Eyes eager at the sight of the gift, Obito grins wide as she hands it over. “You’re the best, you know that?”
“Wait until you see what it is,” his best friend teases, ignoring Rin as she elbows him.
“Don’t spoil it!”
“I’m not!”
Looking the wrapping over, Obito can’t help but notice that it seems rather like a game jacket...did she get him a video game…? He gives her a glance, only proceeding as she nods with an excited look of her own. With a few pulls of his fingers, he reveals the cover.
“No Man’s Sky…?”
“It’s a space game!” Ryū quickly blurts. “You get to play as an astronaut! It’s all randomly generated, and there’s over eighteen quintillion planets you can find and explore! And all the flora and fauna are generated, so you never see the same thing twice...it looks really, really cool! I know you like space stuff, so...I thought it was a good fit!”
Listening, Obito then looks to the jacket. A huge space game, huh? That sounds amazing! “Thanks, Ryū! I’ll have to play it as soon as I get home!”
“Just don’t put off your homework,” Rin chides with a knowing smile.
“I won’t, I won’t...hey, wanna come over and watch me play, Ryū?”
“Yeah! I’m really curious what it’ll be like! Apparently it had some issues at launch but it’s improved a lot since then. I wanna see all the cool animals and planets!”
Grinning ear to ear, Obito pulls her forward for a squeezing hug. “Thanks, Ryū...you didn’t have to get me anything.”
“I wanted to! Besides, what kind of girlfriend would I be if I didn’t?” She pokes his chest lightly. “And you got me something for my birthday. It’s only fair!”
That makes him chuckle. “Yeah, you’re right...I’ll have to have you try playing it too!”
“Well, I...I can try. I dunno if I’ll be any good at it. I mostly play simple games, eh heh.”
“I bet you’ll be great! We can -”
It’s then, however, that the bell rings for first period, and the four teens wilt.
“Welp...see you guys at lunch,” Kakashi offers, retracting the arm he’s had around Rin’s shoulders.”
“Don’t forget we’ve got a club meeting at lunch, Kakashi!” Rin then offers, and his shoulders wilt.
“Do I have to go…?”
“Yes, yes you do. Just grab your lunch and head to the club room. It won’t kill you.”
“...we don’t have anything today, do we?” Obito then asks, turning to Ryū.
“I don’t think so. Today’s Wednesday, so no play practice. And I haven’t heard anything else.”
Obito gives a small sigh of relief. That means he can get home at a good time to play his new game! “Okay, cool. See you at lunch, then.”
“Mhm!” For just a brief moment, Ryū lifts on her toes a bit to give him a quick press of her lips to his cheek. “Hopefully today goes fast, I wanna see your game!”
Under her touch, his face grows warm. “Y-yeah! It’s gonna be fun.”
With that, the four of them split up to head to their first classes.
And as they tend to do on a day with something else to look forward to...classes pass slowly. Obito finds himself zoning out for most of the morning, chin in his palm as he blinks owlishly at the teachers. It doesn’t help that he finds most if not all of his classes to be exceedingly boring. One of the few redeeming features of high school was an unexpected one, that being the drama club that takes place after classes.
Which is where he really got to know Ryū, and...well, the rest is history. They’ve been dating for over a year now, and he’s pretty sure it’s been the best year of his life so far, all things considered.
As his last morning class finally comes to a close, Obito wastes no time in making his way to the cafeteria to pick up some food and meet the others. Ryū beats him there, her classroom far closer.
“Hey!”
“Hey. Kakashi and Rin go through yet?”
“Yeah, they went to the club room already. So I guess it’s just us this time around.”
“Meh, that’s okay. Might be nice just the two of us for once, hm?”
That gets her to smile. “Yeah! There’s a free table near the back corner, maybe we’ll actually be able to hear each other and talk.”
He snorts. “In this chaos? Maybe.”
They snag the table, dragging the chairs side by side and starting to dig into their lunches. Typical idle chatter flows between them. The cafeteria is a hub of noise and distractions, but they do their best to block out the rest and make the best of their brief break before afternoon classes.
“Got much homework for today so far?”
“Just some reading for literature,” Ryū replies, taking another bite of salad. “That won’t take me too long. I might end up with something in geometry, but we’re in a pretty easy chapter right now. You?”
“So far nothing is due tomorrow, so I can put things off.”
Ryū gives him a look, but it’s clear she’s torn between chiding him about homework, but also getting a chance to watch him play. “Well...okay. Just be sure to give yourself enough time so you’re not crunching it the night before it’s due.”
“I know! I’m the master of time management. I can wait until just the right moment,” he replies with a grin.
“There’s also play practice tomorrow and Friday to account for, hm?”
He nods, mouth full.
“Okay...just making sure you remember.”
Obito’s eyes give a teasing roll. Sure, he can be a little scatterbrained, but it usually turns out fine. Ryū, ever the worrier, is practically his assistant with how much she drops little reminders for things. The first of the two plays they’re doing this year is at the end of the month, so it is crunch time for practice and making sure everything is ready. So missing any practice now won’t be a good idea.
But he knows his lines, and the prop crew he’s in is just about finished. He’s not worried.
All too soon however, lunch is over. The pair tidy up after themselves, parting yet again for afternoon classes. Just three more blocks, then they’ll be free for the afternoon.
As soon as they are, Obito flees his last classroom and makes a beeline for his locker. A day without homework! Well...he does have some, but it’s not due until Friday. Which means...he’ll work on it tomorrow!
“Ready to go?”
He glances over to see Ryū, backpack already on her shoulder. “Yeah, let’s go!”
Both of them walk to and from school every day, living close enough to it that the journey isn’t too bad. Even now in February, with a bit of snow on the ground, they make the trek on foot. Obito’s house is closer, which means their walk is pretty short this afternoon.
“Gran! I’m home!” he calls as they head in, stomping snow from their shoes outside and removing them once inside so they can dry.
“Have a good day today?” Sachiko calls back, making her way toward the front door.
“Yeah! Know what day it is?”
“Of course I do,” the old woman replies with a laugh as she enters the room. “I’ve had to wait all day to say happy birthday! I was going to get up early, but…”
“Nah, don’t worry about it. You need the sleep.” He hugs his grandmother tightly, having to lean down a fair bit to reach her.
“Well I haven’t gotten a cake made, but I’ll do that now. Hello Ryū, dear!”
“Hi missus Uchiha!”
“Ryū got me a new game for my birthday, so we’re gonna play it for a bit before homework, okay?”
“A game? For the computer?”
Both teens withhold smiles at the simplification. “Yeah! Just holler when you need help with dinner, okay?”
“Of course, of course. Will Ryū be staying?”
“I can if you’d like me to!” she chirps in reply.
“Certainly! You two have fun and I’ll work on that cake.” With that, Sachiko starts tottering into the kitchen.
Exchanging a look, the pair giggle before retreating to Obito’s room.
They sling their bags down, Obito working on getting the game installed. Ryū, wasting no time in getting comfy, lounges on his bed and starts some of her reading assignment in the meantime.
“Book any good?” he asks.
“Eh, it’s okay. Kinda boring, but...that’s how class books are, really. At least it’s not as bad as the last one...I almost didn’t finish it.”
“You? Not finish an assignment?”
“I know, right? It was just that bad. So this one’s looking better than that, at least.” She flips another page, lying on her back with one leg up over a bent knee. “How long until the game’s ready?”
“A little while.”
“You could start some homework while you wait.” Ryū glances to him, grinning.
“Or...I could not.”
“You heard Rin. She’s gonna scold you if you slack off!”
“What Rin doesn’t know won’t hurt her,” he counters.
“Maybe I’ll tattle on you.”
“Pffft, you better not. She’s got enough to worry about without nitpicking me about my grades.”
Ryū just sticks out her tongue before going back to reading.
At least, until Obito clambers up onto the bed next to her.
“...hi.”
“Hi.”
“Not gonna interrupt me, are you?” she questions, not looking from the page.
“Hm...no. Just figured it was less boring to wait this way.”
That makes her snort. “I guess that’s fair. Gonna nap?”
“Nah. I’ll just…” With a bit of wiggling, Obito sneaks arms around her, making her giggle once he finally finds a comfy spot.
“Your arm is gonna go numb.”
“I’ll live. It’s comfortable.”
She just gives an amused shake of her head, still reading.
A while later, Obito dozing, he jerks at the little jingle his console makes when the game finishes installing. “...oh! It’s done!”
“Already? That seemed pretty fast!”
He disentangles himself and sits down in his chair, looking things over. “Yeah, it’s good to go! Ready?”
Just finishing a chapter, Ryū marks her place before joining him in another chair. Excitement alights her face. “I can’t wait to see it!”
Selecting the game, Obito boots it up. An introductory sequence plays: he’s waking up on a planet, seemingly dazed...and alone. The temperature is dangerously low, and he’s already at risk of freezing to death.
“Oh! You’ve gotta find shelter! Where’s your ship?”
“I dunno!”
“Over there! There’s a cave! I bet it’ll protect you!”
Scrambling, Obito directs his character underground...and the temperature starts to stabilize. They both breathe a sigh of relief. “...okay...I need to figure out the controls and stuff.”
As Obito tinkers with commanding his character, Ryū watches quietly, trying to sneak peaks back outside whenever Obito wanders closer to the entrance of the cave. And then -! “Oh! Look! Look out there!”
“Heh?”
“There’s an animal!”
“Oh!” Creeping closer, Obito gives them a better look.
It has...four pairs of legs, and a little bitty head. But a dense pale-green fur covers its body, plodding along amongst alien-looking flora.
“It’s so funny looking!” Rocking back in her chair, Ryū laughs unabashedly. “Look at it’s head! It’s so tiny!”
Obito laughs right alongside her. “What even…?”
“What is it?”
“You’re asking me?”
“I think you can scan things? And you get money for it!”
“Uh…” He tries toggling some buttons.
“Maybe you can’t scan things yet. But oh my gosh...that thing is hilarious. Is there anything else?”
“I dunno, we’ll have to explore. But I don’t wanna freeze to death!”
Together, the two of them start stumbling along the beginnings of the game. Obito starts getting the hang of it, finding a scanner, a terrain editing tool, and his ship. And once they get far enough...he takes off and leaves the planet’s atmosphere, heading out into open space.
They both take a moment to marvel at it. “Whoa…!”
Opening his map, they find there are four planets in the system he’s in. A signal starts coming from one of them.
“So, uh...how many planets did you say there were again…?”
“Something like eighteen quintillion?”
“...uh...how many is that?”
“It’s two steps over a trillion. So...million, billion, trillion, quadrillion, quintillion.”
“Holy shit…”
“Yeah! And you can run into other people if you play online!”
“Maybe once I’m better at it. I don’t wanna look stupid…”
“You won’t!”
But before much more progress can be made, Sachiko calls for them. “Time for dinner!”
“...I thought we were going to help with dinner?” Ryū asks, brow perking.
“You know Gran, she conveniently forgets that part most of the time…”
They head back to the kitchen where Sachiko already has a cake made, and a meal ready to be eaten.
“We could have helped!” Ryū gently protests, only to have her concern waved away.
“I’ve made more dinners than you’ve eaten,” she counters with a twinkle in her eye. “I can manage a few more.”
Unable to retort, they sit and enjoy her hard work, Obito flushing pink as his grandmother insists on lighting all the candles. Ryū, grinning, films it all with her phone.
“...don’t show Kakashi.”
“I won’t, don’t worry.” Together, she and Sachiko sing him happy birthday, and then Obito blows every candle out with one breath.
Sachiko then serves them each a piece, Ryū insisting hers is too big only to be shushed.
There’s no telling Sachiko no.
By the time they finish the birthday meal, Ryū admits she’d best head home. “I need to finish my homework and get my chores done...but I’m glad you like your game so far! Maybe this weekend I can come see more?”
“Sure! Maybe by then I won’t suck at it.”
She just laughs. “...happy birthday, Obito. I hope it was a good one.”
“The best,” he replies, leaning in to give her a kiss. “Thanks for the game, and for coming over. See you tomorrow.”
“Bye!”
He watches her go, waving before heaving a contented sigh. It was a good day, all things considered.
Another year behind him...and another to go.
kjfdghfdjhg this is a day late because...I ran out of time OTL Gonna try to at least start today’s tonight but I doubt I’ll finish. Just so fricken busy lately ;A; ANYWAY, just...random modern fluff uwu NMS is actually really cool and people who hate on it are nerds who don’t know the whole story of what the developers had to go through, but...I won’t rant on that xD Ryū and Obito playin’ games and snuggin’ is just a Good Vibe. But yeah, that’s all for this one! Time to try to speedrun 21 xD Thanks for reading!

Local Teens Break Into Highschool and Fight Slime Monster, Self Esteem Issues Galore, Worried Parents Scold Stubborn Hacker, Strange Tech Geek Has Epiphany
Flying with their hoverboards to the school was both insanely fun and much easier than Danny expected - once Sam and Tucker were drilled on how to fly them properly. They landed on the roof, Danny slid them all into that space between spaces where the real was illusion and the unseeable was reality and they sank down into the school easily. Slowing their descent with a tug on the dark strings of gravity, Danny dropped everyone back into their natural solid state and waited for Sam and Tucker to take a deep breath. "I'm wondering if I even need to breathe cause I didn't have a problem with air passing through my whole body instead of in and out of my lungs."
"Speculation later," Sam said with a hand over Danny's mouth. "Let's go, alright? We need to find the security office, which should be this way." The goth lead the group and Tucker pulled out the USB with the data they needed on it.
"Why do you know where that is, Sam?"
"C'mon, Tucker, you do after school stuff in theater, you know how boring it is to wait for clubs to start. I just wandered around a bunch cause it's healthier than idling with some game."
"So you walked while playing a game?"
"Oh shut up," Sam rolled her eyes, nudging Tucker with her elbow. Once they got to the security room door, Sam reached for her pocket before pausing and turning to Danny. "I brought my lock pick for nothing when you can just walk us through the door."
"Why do you know how to pick locks?" Danny examined the door and pressed his hand on it. He could see the strings that wove together to make it, vibrations slow compared to the ones in the air. Curious, Danny plucked one of the threads and watched as the door became as solid as air. Tucker and Sam walked right through but Danny could see the door settle back into its proper state after just a moment. Danny slid into that breathless darkness beyond the door entirely and walked into the room, dropping into corporeality's warmth to see Tucker's PDA jacked into the main computer and pulling up the details on the Fenton tech installed.
Tucker's foot was tapping as he examined the layout of the security system and frowned. His fingers flew over the keyboard and the deeper he delved the less he liked. "Alright good news: I can get it done. Bad news: gotta shut down the entire system for a whole five minutes to do it, and that's a pretty long time for it to be down in case something attacks us now."
"What are the odds of something attacking us right now, Tucker?" The geek arched a disbelieving eye brow at Sam, who shrugged with a sigh. "Point taken. How about this? I stay here with you and Danny patrols the halls for a ghost attacking? He can sense them, so it shouldn't be a problem."
"Great as a point as that is, if I just close my eyes I can look around for a ghost right from here. Do it Tuck, I'll know if anything comes for us." Tucker nodded and got to work on his update of the system, inserting the USB after a frustrating fumble with it. Danny closed his eyes and looked around with more than his limited human senses. Electrical currents ran all over the school to keep the Air Conditioning running right, or as right as a high school could get it, and the power stored in the lasers hidden all over the school lit up like tiny lamps in the shadows surrounding them. But then the computer went dark and Danny felt a tug in the back of his head, pulling him toward an empty spot in the world.
There, off to the side, Danny could see a gap, a void where the snapping threads of electricity and heat should've been. He let that tingling emptiness build up in his center and spread outward, until it blanketed every atom of his being and the faint and distant chorus of Starsong echoed in the back of his mind. "We've got company. I'll go and chat, see if we can get through a ghost encounter without fighting first."
"First time for everything Danny," Sam encouraged - or at least he thought she was trying to encourage him - and Danny followed a current he guided to the source of that blank spot, where light and heat and power collapsed inward. When he got closer, Danny saw what looked to be an office and a few framed pictures of depressed teens with an overly perky ginger woman. He didn't have time to linger on that, though, because a green blob with arms and bright red eyes was staring at him. Danny waved with a smile.
"Hi there." The creature turned to stare at Danny and for a long moment, nothing happened. Then a maw of razor sharp teeth was bared his way and a guttural, bestial snarl hit his ears and Danny had to move as fast as he could. A clawed hand slashed at his side and Danny sucked in a hissed cry as the jumpsuit gave and his nicked skin was exposed. "Well fuck you too then."
Raising the wrist ray Danny caught the thing in the shoulder with a shot before it rolled out of the way and punched him in the gut, waves of pain spreading out as the fucking stretchy arm pulled back. Grabbing onto that rubbery green goo, Danny jabbed at the creature's center when he was yanked close enough. Unfortunately it opened up a hole in itself and Danny's fist sailed through that hole harmlessly. His arm was trapped in goop and the blob roared in his face, encompassing Danny's body and lunging into a wall, slamming Danny against it and ringing his head like a gong.
While Danny tried to get his bearings within the slime monster he felt it turn and something inside of him rang out in horror. He looked, past the monster and walls, and saw it looking in Sam and Tucker's direction. A bubbling fury boiled in Danny's chest when the blob started moving toward them, and the ghost boy reached inside of himself past the shows and whispering dark void, reaching for the light that filled the shadows and pulled it into himself and let it build and build up until every inch of his body shone like a star. Bright green and silver light poured out of Danny from every molecule of his body, sending the goo monster in every direction to splatter on the floor, walls, and ceiling.
Danny hovered there for a moment, taking deep superfluous breaths and pulling the strands of crackling pale light to his fingertips. Silver gave way to green and shined through his glove and Danny stared at it in awe. "Holy shit!" A fist collided with his face, knocking Danny into a chair. He groaned and raised a hand, cold light gathering until it burned brighter than a torch and flew from his palm to turn a chunk of the monster's arm into green vapor. "Back the fuck off flubber, I'm packing heat!"
Blank red eyes narrowed at him and Danny rose to his feet with his fists in front of his face, glowing green with wisps of white at the edges like smoke. The monster snarled at him, countless predatory roars and howls layered upon each other in a headache-inducing din before flinging itself back through the wall behind it and quickly leaving Danny's sight. Danny moved to chase after the thing and found that his body didn’t agree with that idea. “Fuck.” Great, ok, pain. No more talking, though the world shall mourn my silence. Danny flew slowly back to his friends, on the alert for the blob of ectoplasm, and flopped onto Sam’s back when he got into the security room. Sam started and aimed her wrist ray at him before seeing that it was just him.
“Gods, I hate you sometimes. Are you ok? You would’ve laughed by now if you were.” Sam looked down and watched Danny’s hands moving, and frowned. “A blob did this to you?” It was a smart blob. “That says something about you, genius boy.” Dig the knife in why don’t you? “Left it at home. Tucker, how’s the program going?”
“One full minute left.” Tucker spun around in his chair, Wrist Ray™ whirring up and ready to fire. “So a sentient blob monster was hangin out in an office at school. Wonderful. What next, Cthulu decides to take a nap in Lake Eyre and we have to go and deal with him?”
Don’t tempt fate, Tucker, Danny signed. We might actually have to deal with that after what we’ve done to those ectopi.
“That is both an exciting and depressing thought. How are we gonna deal with Cthulu?” To answer Sam’s question, Danny stood up and pulled a bit of heat and light to his hand, and it glowed brighter and brighter until a ball of ectoplasm burned in the palm of his gloved hand. “I’m not trying to be as blind as Tucker, Danny, please put that away. Thank you. That as fucking awesome! What, you can shoot plasma out of your hands now?”
There is a tiny portal to the Ethereal Realm in the center of my ghost, where my consciousness is stored, and I can pull extra ectoplasm out of it to burn and attack with apparently. Danny tilted his head and added, I think that’s how our more effective weapons work. Dad only made so many rifles so far.
“You know what? Good. I’m glad he didn’t make too many of those,” Sam said with a shudder. “Imagine him selling that technology to the military so that they’d be armed against ghosts. I don’t wanna know what would happen if we had that kind of power enmass.”
Before uncomfortable truths about their home could be brought up further, the computer screens all lit up and Tucker spun around to check on them. “Looks like everything is set up, and Danny can come back to school. Makes it a lot less lonely for us.” Tucker stood up and stretched. “The robotics club just can’t keep up with me sometimes.”
Awesome. Can we go now? I think I can fix myself up back at home, I have a first aid kit in my workshop.
“Wait, you have your own workshop?” Tucker lunged at Danny, who hissed and slipped around his fingers to hover out of reach. “Sorry. But for real, you have a workshop? Since when? Why have I not known about this?” Danny shook his head and chuckled, then clutched as his chest in throbbing pain. I better not have to take off my binder for this, or I’m gonna shake the thermos when I catch that thing. Reaching up to touch the ceiling, Danny grabbed onto the thread of energy running through the concrete and tried to pull it into him. The line of electricity snapped at his fingers and zapped him to the floor, bringing a keening whine from his throat as the pain radiated all over his body and the hand that had reached out looked to be glitching out, morphing into a dark swirling mass of cold.
Past the ringing in his head and blood - ectoplasm? - rushing through his ears, Danny could feel himself being lifted up and carried out of the room. He did his best to make that easier, unweaving the shadowy tendrils of gravity pulling on his body, and soon it was just Tucker’s familiar and warm hands holding him up like a balloon. While Sam was working on the lock between barely opened doors so they could get out the old fashioned way, Danny pulled those lingering shadows back together until they were his hand again. But then his other hand glitched and he groaned in frustration. Looking all around, Danny sucked in a sharp breath and reached down to tap Tucker’s Wrist Ray™, which had the other boy whirling around with it aimed.
Tucker fired off a ray at the ghost, who snarled at him for burning off an arm, and swiped out a claw at Tucker. Danny pulled on the power inside of him and pushed it out of his still stable hand, building a wall of green around them that the claw smashed into, shattering it and causing Danny’s legs to dissolve. Tucker fired off another shot that pushed the blob back and shouted. “¡Tíranos hasta el techo!” Danny sucked in a sharp breath and concentrated. His lower half was dissolved into a nebulous cloud of shadows beneath him but he had both hands, and now he was grabbing up Sam and Tucker in his arms and pulling them through the door and up. He dropped back into solid space and saw Tucker and Sam calling their boards to them, and when he felt Tucker solidly on stable ground, Danny’s vision went dark, and the last thing he saw was the light of his transformation and Tucker’s chest in his face.
Unraveled and broken down and broken free into yet another star among the endless diamond sky. He can see it, the threads connecting every constellation. Chamaeleon calls to him, and he can see the kaleidoscope of flames weaving between the stars, crackling and vibrating in harmony to sing the most beauteous song. Just beyond it, he faintly sees the tangle of verdant greens that wove themselves with shadows into his friend. And she was not beyond the stars but before them, before him, and she was calling out to him and that was right, he was needed on the ground. He can reach out and dance among the stars another time, he knows they will be there for him, as they have always been there for him. It takes an eon, but mere seconds too, for Danny to remember how he is supposed to fit into the small confines of his body. He holds up his hand, turns it this way and that. Is this his? How has he ever considered himself something so… so small, so simple and well-defined?
“Danny? Danny, can you hear me?” He turned to Sam’s voice and reached a hand out, gently gripping her shoulder and nodding with a small smile. “Thank gods! Danny, are you ok? Can you speak?”
Danny tugged gently on that care concern help love that came through his bond to Sam and guided it to his jaw and chin. Letting out a sigh and snapping back to reality he nodded again. “Fornax, Sam that hurt. What happened? I passed out after Tucker got his board under him.”
“That blob thing attacked us while I was picking the lock, and Tucker got you to pull us out so we could get to our boards. Once you blacked out - bleeding, by the way, your head had been busted open - Tucker and I shot the thing until it left. When we got here, I started working on you while Tucker worked up a convincing lie to tell your parents.” She pointed at the door. “He’s right outside, but that’s as close as he can get without having a breakdown.” Danny nodded and slowly got to his feet. “You know that’s a dumb idea, right?”
“Isn’t that like, my middle name?” Danny chuckled. “I need to make sure Tucker is alright. And uh, Sam? Where’s my-” Sam handed over his binder and Danny smiled, slipping it into that in-between space and letting it solidify around him.
“Thankfully you don’t have a broken rib or that might just make it worse.” That was true. Danny easily could’ve been making his wounds worse with the constricting force on his ribs. Glancing down at himself, Danny tried to look just sideways of the world like he did when looking for ghosts, but when he did all he saw was his phantom jumpsuit. Huffing a breath he shook his head.
“I don’t feel like my chest is hurting much so I should be good.” Danny walked out of the door and saw Tucker sitting next to it. "Tucker, bro, thanks for saving my ass back there. Heard you did a great job flying, keeping me on the board And shooting the evil blob monster."
Tucker snorted, setting down his PDA. "That's cause I'm TF for Too Fine at a lot of things. Coulda done better by programming a remote activation for the security and lighting the thing up with it though."
"Surf lessons and videogames can't help you prophesy the future, Tuck." Tucker scoffed, shaking his head.
"No, my inherent genius does that. Calculating the odds."
Danny cocked a brow at him, unseen since Tucker was staring at a wall. "Oh, a gambler I see. Did the loot crates get to you? Do you need an intervention? Is it like the coffee thing?" Danny put his hand on Tucker’s shoulder, gently squeezing as he spoke.
Tucker finally looked at Danny, expression and tone flat. “You literally learned how to make the highest caffeine content cold brew coffee possible and drink it daily, there is no room for argument there Danny."
"I remember you helping him, Tucker." Sam sat next to the geek and nudged his arm
“Your point is?"
"You might be addicted to gambling and caffeine but we definitely can help Tuck." Danny and Tucker laughed, Sam and Danny wrapping their arms around Tucker’s shoulders in a group hug that was only somewhat awkward.
"Seriously though, Tucker, you did perfectly fine. I dunno how you manage to do all of what you do."
"It's how I'm gonna kick your ass in videogames one day."
Danny smirked. “I'll record it."
"I will destroy you, both of you know that." Sam turned her head up, looking all the world like the quern of destruction they knew she could be.
“We will conquer! Right, Tuck?"
"Yeah!" The boys pumped their fists in the air and all three of them broke down into a fit of laughter. They disentangled and got up, Danny wincing at the aches exasperated by sitting like that.
“Alright guys, let’s head to sleep and then like, tell Danny’s parents we beat Skulker and that’s why he’s all roughed up?” Everyone agreed with Sam’s idea - they usually did - and headed up to Danny’s room to pass out for several hours.
Shadows illuminated from within by starlight collected over countless eons swirl like smoke around him, letting him see the stars themselves weave together into beautiful shapes and beings just on the edge of imaginable. He can feel it, past the cold shadows in his mind, the fire in his soul that he can pull out, weave it with his shadows to make something new if only he knew how. If only he dipped his brush into that well of fire and plasma and life within him and painted the empty air with it. He can, he just needs to move his fingers, the small heavy things they are.
“Danny, honey! Breakfast is ready!” Danny felt himself groan at the sound of his mother’s voice and buried his head further into someone’s arm. The air shifted, the door open, and Mom gasped. “Danny! Oh Danny, what happened?” Right, he’d forgotten he had a few bruises left by that blob. It’s too early to remember things though. The concern worry fear pinging in his head was enough to drag Danny to full consciousness and address the mounting panic his mother was diving into.
“Good news is: I can go to school again. Bad news is: I can go to school again.” Danny propped his elbow on Sam’s side as his friends got up. “But uh, we turned the ghost to goop. I’m mostly fine. Only sting a little.” Danny groaned as he was shoved by Sam into Tucker who fell off the bed with his hand clasped around Danny’s shoulder. “What’s for breakfast?”
It turned out they were having waffles, eggs, and fruit salad for breakfast. Danny ate like there was no tomorrow, Tucker doing much the same while Sam went at s civilized pace. Must be years of being in a ‘proper’ home. Cutting out Danny’s powers they regaled how they beat Skulker and Danny held up the thermos full of ectoplasm they removed from the zoo. “So we’re safe now.”
“I expect you to contact me and your father next time you do something so dangerous, young man!” Danny could see the blue bleeding through the yellow in her aura and nodded dutifully. Mom relaxed into her seat and sighed. “I’m proud of you for taking down your first ghost though!”
“Thanks, Mom. He was a pain in the Apus.” A spark of yellow that had him grinning. “It’s a constellation o-”
“Trust me, Danny, I know.” Mom kissed his head and Danny rambled away about the constellation anyway. “I’ll let the principal know that the ghost is dealt with. You three eat up and do whatever it is you kids do after fighting an evil monster.” Mom walked away and Danny looked over at his friends.
“What do we do once we beat a bad guy?” Other than worry about the next one. I’m almost starting to think Agatha is a rarity. “Cause I kinda wanna try beating Sam in something.”
“You poor naive boy, you think you can actually win.” Sam shook her head and patted Danny on his shoulder. “One day you’ll learn.”
“That day is not today!” Tucker shouted around his eggs. “To victory!”
“I’m painting something on the loser’s back, just so you know.” Danny waved his fork menacingly. “If you squirm from being tickled by the brush then I will have to start over.” The three of them laughed, finished up their breakfasts, and headed to the living room to start up a star finder videogame for Tucker to try and beat Sam in. Tucker lost and Danny tortured him with the cool ticklish strokes of his paintbrush while he put down a painting of a toucan on his side.
“As fun as kicking your butt has been, I think I’m gonna take off,” Sam said as she collected her helmet and new magnetized boots. They did just as much damage as her old combat boots, but these let her stick to her hoverboard. “And I swear if you make that a pun, Danny Fenton-”
“Take off into the sky and make sure not to crash land!” Danny was knocked back by his jacket being thrown at his face and Tucker wheezed out a laugh next to him. The door closed and Danny pounced, pinning Tucker to the floor. “And so the jester took down the friar, twas hardly a fight.”
Tucker pushed Danny up and off of him, rolling over to sit on his friend and crossing his arms. “I am triumphant and rose to the position of king! As such, I’m gonna see if I can crack that idiot’s code. Mind if I use your little workshop?”
“As long as you don’t try to leave through the portal to the moon, it’s perfectly cool dude. Best of luck with the metal head.” Danny squirmed free and headed up the stairs. “I just realized I can paint over those glow in the dark stickers on my ceiling now!”
Tucker shook his head and headed upstairs as well. He grabbed his stuff, got on his board, and flew home with a quick text to his parents to explain that he’d been at Danny’s house again. Tucker shook his head and headed upstairs as well. He grabbed his stuff, got on his board, and flew home with a quick text to his parents to explain that he’d been at Danny’s house again. Once Tucker reached his house, touching down in his backyard and pulling the hoverboard into the garage to idle, he headed upstairs immediately to grab Skulker's head. When he got to the ladder that leads up to his trapdoor, Tucker was met with his parents and upset faces. "Uh, hi?"
"Young man, why were you out all night without telling us first? That dangerous... ghost thing is still out there, hunting you and your friends. Your leg has only barely gotten any better!" Wow, Tucker definitely needed that reminder of the dull throbbing ache that the Advil was masking just well enough for him to ignore on the way here. Moms were the best at unwanted reminders, Tucker was beginning to think. "You could have gotten hurt!"
"Well, would it make you feel better to know that I am 100% sure that Skulker isn't a problem anymore?"
"If you could give us proof of that, maybe." Dad frowned. "That doesn't excuse not telling us that you were staying the night with Danny. We were worried sick."
"If you let me up into my room I can show you that proof." They conceded and let Tucker climb his ladder, following up immediately after. "I've spent like half my nights at Danny's place anyway." Tucker rushed over to his closet and pulled the helmet to Skulker's suit out of the pile of clothes he'd been hiding it under.
"That's no excuse young ma- Tucker what in god's name is that?" I've never seen Dad so close to cussing in front of me before. This is a true milestone.
"Tucker Malik Foley is that the head of the robot ghost that shot at the targets in the backyard?" His mom didn't sound very thrilled, and Tucker could admit that he should've seen that coming but he needed the head anyways.
"I told you that the Fentons have great hologram technology and you saw that I have Sharon back, right? See, the hoverboard, some holograms and the kind of backdoor that opens up when you put someone else's things into your own stuff lead to us taking Skulker down. He's back on the other side where he belongs. And I thought 'hey, I could shut it down and eject him through my PDA, what can I figure out with my laptop' and I can see that you're not happy with the idea, which makes sense, but if I can figure out how Skulker's armor works then not only could I make something insanely effective at deterring ghosts from attacking us, but I'd also be able to make something that I can sell! And just imagine what kind of things we can get if I made money off of this." His parents had one of those silent conversations people had with looks and Tucker scrambled for something to add, something that would stop them from taking this away from him when he was on the edge of a breakthrough. "I'm close to breaking down all the firewalls, I know I am. I made an entire cybersecurity system for Dad's job, I think I can manage to crack a firewall."
"And how," Dad asked, "are we to know that you're doing this safely? You might trigger some sort of self destruct in the thing if you do this." Mom gave Dad a look, and Tucker almost snorted. "What? Angela this is like we stepped into a sci-fi world and I have no clue what to expect, so why wouldn't an evil ghost have a self destruct inside the robot suit it was possessing?"
"Valid enough concern, Dad, but I already disabled that and I uh, I'll do it at Fentonworks. They have all kinds of stuff for volatile experiments there. If something is about to blow, I'll get behind a blast shield and be as safe as possible." Another long moment of silent deliberation and his Mom sighed.
"Alright, we'll allow it. But if you at all get hurt then all of the suit that I know you're trying to hide from us is going to the dump, you understand me mr.?" Tucker put the head on his bed, launched himself at his parents, and hugged them both tight. "This doesn't excuse you getting into a fight with a ghost young man." They were both hugging back, so Tucker laughed it off. That was a discussion for later.
Before his parents could make it a discussion for then and there, Tucker grabbed the head, slid down his ladder, and got to his board as quickly as he could. Taking to the skies, Tucker zoomed straight for Danny's workshop building instead of going through the Fenton's house. Opening the door, he rode the board in and blinked a couple of times as he looked around, getting a better chance to take it all in. "So this is where he does all of that art. It looks like Dr. Fenton put every painting or doodle Danny's ever done on the walls in here." There were very few empty spaces on the walls of the very first room, easels and framed paintings and even first-grade doodles that Tucker recognized were hung all around the room. Dismounting the board, Tucker headed down the stairs and plopped himself in Danny's wheely chair, spinning around a couple of times before setting down Skulker's head and opening a drawer. "Danny and I are gonna discuss him moving my stuff when I leave it here."
With Skulker’s helmet on the table and connected to his laptop, the room was full of the hum and buzz of electricity, the clacking of his fingers on the keys and Tucker lost track of time. Sure, he’d managed to shut it down and open up the thing to force Skulker out of the chest but those were the easiest things for him to access even with a backdoor. “There’s no way someone like Skulker could’ve made something with this much protection. I usually have something like this dealt within two days tops.” He hit enter once more, running his firewall crack and leaned back. “There’s gotta be something useful in all of this.”
Ding! Humming, whirring, buzzing, the head came to life with emerald flame and something clicked. Tucker saw the programs pop up on his screen, the programs, the blueprints, and weapon schematics, and the code sang to him, how to do what Skulker did with just a bit of energized ectoplasm! Music filled his ears, his soul, his fingers. His human mouth could not sing the melodies, but metal could and metal would.
"The world is just vibrating strings, you just gotta know how to play the universe's song." Tucker took special note of one piece in particular. “Intangibility modulater huh? Thank you Hunter Grovsner, you’re so pathetically weak of a ghost your suit has to compensate. Now then,” Tucker thinks, thinks of all the things he could do with something like that, thinks of how to best make it convenient, and he starts designing, letting the music of the universe guide him, “let’s get to work.”

Hey, I am a huge fan of your CC but I wanted your opinion as a Sims fan. I'm currently torn between getting some expansion packs for TS3, however my partner is encouraging me to just switch to TS4 since it's newer/still being updated. I know you only do TS3 content but wanted your opinion on making the switch for sticking to what I got. My main concern is how well my computer can handle more TS3 expansion packs vs what's out for TS4. Thank you so much for the beautiful content you create!
Hi! Thanks so much for the message; I’m happy that you like my stuff! :)
I’m going to publish this, cuz it’s actually pretty important, as folks have asked my thoughts on switching over before:
IMHO: TS3
I’ve talked about lag and TS3 before. I’ve been playing TS3 nonstop since the basegame’s release day.To date, I’ve rarely ever had problems running the game, even on my 10 year old HP Vista laptop, that only had 4GB of RAM (I used FPS Limiter to bypass the Launcher and keep the game from crashing to desktop; worked like a charm! Good info here X X). Excluding Pets and Island Paradise, I had all of the other EPs installed on that PC with no problems.
My newer laptop’s a piece of crap Win10 Dell, but it has 8GB RAM & a i5 2.5/2.7 GHz processor, and I’ve been running ALL of the EPs on medium-high graphics settings with a EFFTON of CC just fine. :)
Note: I NEVER play in fullscreen mode.
TS3′s got way more content than TS4, but as long as your PC’s got the RAM and the processor speed, TS3 runs well. I noticed that it lags more the higher the settings are, so it depends on the graphics card you use, in that case – I heard weirdness about TS3 not recognizing certain graphics cards, but IDK – both of my laptops have integrated chipsets. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe it’s different on desktops. :\
I’m unfortunately playing TS3 on 1.69 on the Dell, and I bloody hate being forced to use Origin and the Launcher to boot the game. But I keep Origin offline and idle in the tray the whole time – nyanyanya, EA! XPPPPPPPPPPPPP
IMHO: TS4 (Rant Alert – naturally)
As a simmer who’s deliberately stuck to TS3 (even after all these years that TS4′s been out), my opinion’s going to be biased.
I don’t see myself making the switch to TS4 any time soon, cuz I’m clearly not EA’s target demographic for that mess.
I love fanciful gameplay (understatement of the year). I’m not here for realism. Yes, TS3 had to wait 7 EPs for the Supernatural EP, but during the interim we had the Spellbook, Crystal Ball, Voodoo Doll and Cauldron at the Store; the Ghost Hunter in AMB and Magician in SHT; Unicorns as Pets, and the Genie & Vampire lifestates. That was 3 years into TS3′s run. Not to mention, IIRC, the same year we got Supernatural, we also got the Showtime EP, the Seasons EP, Lunar Lakes, Sunlit Tides, Lucky Palms AND Monte Vista (2012 was the effing year).
TS4′s 4 YEARS old, and I’m still waiting for the fantasy! Get Together, Get FamousGet a better idea already, EA! DANG! >_sad, and Get to Work had no business being an EP; having Doctors and Cops should’ve been basegame, or a free patch like the Toddlers were – wtf with all this half-baked effery and generic packs?! Adding a first-person-mode so you don’t even get to see the sim you just spent 10 frikkin hours creating in CAS – frikkin inspired, EA. >_>
Wanting the new shiny is all well and good, but EA’s gonna have to pry my fully customizable open world game with transportation and CASt and World Editor and CAW/CAP and all its derivatives from my cold dead clutches, sorry. XD
So, yeah, I don’t really have anything positive to say about TS4. Maybe if they make a Supernatural/Makin Magic EP sometime before the next decade arrives, I might take a gander. But even then that won’t be enough for me to RETIRE my TS3 game by permanently switching over. Why would I? I’m not saying TS3’s better, cuz that’s relative and subjective, but it’s certainly bigger; there’s more to do and explore, (me? give up World Adventures, ITF, and Supernatural? HA!); and I don’t like the playdough-looking Lazy Town aesthetic.

At this point, I am thinking I might just skip letting my roommate play with his drive cloner and go straight to the part where I install Lubuntu on the new SSD. The various not-Windows operating systems generally let you make what's called a LiveCD or LiveKey, which is essentially the OS on some kind of portable media. They generally start with a menu that gives you the choice between using the OS off the optical disc/USB drive, or installing it to the local hard disk. I have LiveKeys for both Lubuntu 16.10 and RemixOS 64-bit. The trial for RemixOS is a little unfair; it saves absolutely nothing, not even for pretend, and is almost telepathically fast, so it's clearly running off a RAM drive. I can get it to boot to an "installation", as it's designed to run off of a portable drive, but it's deeply unhappy about being confined to USB 2.0, and an I/O speed of less than half the 10Mbit/s it wants makes it unusable. It's got some quirks; notably, it assumes I'm on a tablet, so the multitouch scrolling wants me to drag the contents of the screen up and down, as opposed to the regular computer method, which drags the aperture instead. There's probably a way to change it, but I've no idea what it is. If it ran off of a local SSD, I think it would be perfectly content. The Lubuntu LiveKey happens to be on a thumbdrive with an access LED, which goes blinky-blinky from time to time, so it is actually using some kind of disk cache when running from portable media. (I assume a LiveCD configures itself to use a RAM disk for cache. Otherwise it would get very confused when it couldn't put anything on the scratch pad.) It's effectively running off of a very small, very slow SSD. I can see the local HDD, and open things off of it, but otherwise it doesn't spin up at all. The computer generates so little heat that the fan has pretty much been idle the whole time. What's particularly interesting is that this is also almost alarmingly fast. I get reasonably good performance out of the Toshiba (Satellite A205, release date 2007; 1.30 GHz dual-core Celeron/1GB RAM; network name: Maleficent) running a lightweight Lubuntu install with XFCE graphical shell. Maleficent doesn't particularly like maintaining two dozen Chromium tabs under a full-screen HD YouTube stream while I fool around with GIMP on the other monitor, but neither does anything fall down go boom. The amount of grumbling I get, in fact, is roughly the same as I get putting that load on the ASUSTek (RemixOS seems to think it's a K54C, release date 2011; 2.20GHz dual-core B960/4GB RAM; network name: Natasha). Which means the main bottleneck here is not the hardware, it's fucking Windows. I am not a power user. I don't do a whole lot of real-time 3D renders or video editing. I'm not a big PC gamer; nothing on my Steam account is less than 10 years old, and the most processor-intensive games I run locally are on emulators, where I coax a pile of computer parts worth maybe $20 into pretending to be a 20-year old, $200 Playstation. The single worst thing I do to the actual brains is probably work with large print-resolution raster graphics in GIMP, and I abuse the RAM by using Open In New Tab... by default for days at a time. [And actually most of the gaming is on the Kindle Fire now. I find 7" a nice size for getting a game and the control overlay on the screen at the same time. It's plenty smart enough to be a PSP, a handheld which itself was smart enough to run PSX games in emulation. Supposedly there's a working PS2 emu out there somewhere. The only downside is that emulators eat battery like a scientifically-engineered battery-eating thing. So does Pokémon GO!, and everybody loves that, so I think I'll cope.] Unless you are rooting around in a terminal window -- pun unintended, but spared in edits for being apropos -- all of the major OSes work pretty much the same. You communicate with the computer the same way you order food in a foreign country: Find a picture of what you want and poke at it until your server gets the idea. The window/icon metaphor has been the fundamental basis of every GUI since they were invented at Xerox PARC. They may be arranged slightly differently and stashed in different places, but at the end-user level, all computers do the same stuff now. Once upon a time, when the architecture was much more obvious to the schmuck at the keyboard, the various kinds of "microcomputers" were tuned for different things -- Amigas were known for video, Ataris and the Speccy were good at games, PCs descended from boring business computers, etc. These days, all of the working software runs at such a high level of abstraction that what the machine is optimized for is not down to the brand or build, but to the amount of raw computing resources you've shoved into the case. There are two reasons all of my preferred software is free open-source stuff, and the less obvious one is that I don't want to fucking learn everything three times. Programs like Libre/OpenOffice and Sigil are not written for one platform and ported to others; they're written in high-level platform-independent languages and compiled for different operating systems instead. (The interpreter and compiler you use to write it are dependent on your OS; the language itself is not, although if you really want you can still tune it to quirks of specific architecture.) The Windows, Mac, and Linux forks are compiled off of the same master build, so all three versions work exactly the same no matter what kind of computer you're on. It's especially obvious if you use GIMP for Windows. Windows applications are supposed to keep all their child windows inside a containing parent window, but this by tradition, not necessity; there's nothing in the operating environment enforcing it. And in fact GIMP for Windows uses the Mac/Linux paradigm of letting all its toolbars and palettes float all over the damn place, completely unconnected to the window that holds the working image and the master menu bar. There are a few compelling reasons for sticking with Windows if you're running a business or an institution. If you've got any specialized software that runs only on Windows, you kind of need it. Most people are familiar with it, so you don't have to give all your employees a crash course on the many and various uses of apt-get and why you do not type sudo anything unless you have a damn good reason. There's also the stability of having your OS supported by a giant corporation with a 24-hour helpdesk and upper-tier technicians and some sort of independent existence that you can sue the pants off of if for some reason they make your computer burst into flames. I need to perform specific tasks more than I need to have specific software, and all of my shit is A) junk by current standards, and B) way out of warranty even if I didn't constantly void EULAs by tinkering. I really just need something that functions as a computer. I might have bought a Chromebook the last time I was on this merry-go-round, except they topped out at 13" and I'd go blind trying to do graphics work on that. from Blogger http://ift.tt/2igQ2bG via IFTTT -------------------- Enjoy my writing? Kickidler Review 2020: New Means Of Workplace Surveillance
Workplace surveillance is necessary for all business companies and industries. As an online business owner, I think that employee monitoring is essential for improving workflow efficiency in your organization.
Here I am writing about Kickidler review 2020, which is one of the best employee monitoring software avail in the market.
Nowadays, most of the companies work online and employ candidates having technical skills. With efficient and hard-working employees, employers can earn better revenue for their organizations. Don’t you think all these things sound really great? However, in reality, it’s not easily achievable without having a proper workforce management system.
Kickidler seems to be an ideal tool to monitor employees’ computer activities. This monitoring software has many employee tracking features that can help you to analyze and enhance employees’ performance in your organization. To learn more about this software, check out this Kickidler review 2020:
About Kickidler:
To have better work efficiency in your organization, what you don’t need the most are employees with idle time. With a likable wordplay, the name of this tool exactly fits in the role of what it really does. In simple words, it’s a tool to avoid idle time-wasting to improve work efficiency in your organization. One of the best things about this tool is that you can use it for seven days of a free trial. Also, by adding your phone contact information, you can extend this trial period to fourteen days.
It has some excellent monitoring features which let you track the real-time activities of employees. While your employees can’t find that you are keeping eyes on them as this computer monitoring software process its monitoring operation while being in stealth mode. And you can rest assured that any data breaching issues won’t be happening in your organization. Other than that, you also have the option to take direct action against any questioning activities as you can directly access employees’ computers remotely from anywhere.
Let’s check out the features of Kickidler:
Features of Kickidler:
Real Time Online Monitoring Software:
Kickidler software has a real-time monitoring feature, which allows you to keep a centralized eye on all the computers of your employees. In fact, you can monitor their online activities like apps/software they have been using, browsing-history of their computer, and so on. And in case of any issues, it has surveillance to trigger the alert signal to the employer.
Time Tracking System:
With Kickidler, you don’t need to be worried about productive hours at your workplace. Since Kickidler has the employee time tracking system, which tracks the timely productiveness of each employee. It also provides the report of absentees and those who are late to the workplace. There you can find the idler ones whom you can reprimand. And promote the ones who are more productive at your workplace.
Productivity Analysis:
Most of the time, idlers hold down their duties and spend their time on social media, doing online chatting, gaming, shopping, and their stuff. As an employer, nobody wants to pay idlers for their unproductive duty hours. Kickidler has an employee productivity tracker system that automatically checks the productivity of each employee. That’s where you can take action against idlers and encourage productive employees to gain more for your business.
Screen Recording:
Though idlers can be the problem of slowing down productivity. But they aren’t the real problem. The real offenders are those who siphon your data to competitors, which harms your business. However, those offenders can’t escape from the sharp eyes of Kickidler. Since it has a screen recording function using which employer can record the video of employees’ activity.
Violation Tracking Filter:
In a huge company, which has lots of employees, it won’t be easier for them to find employees who are violating the company’s norms. Here Kickidler plays a role, as it has a tracking system that automatically informs any violation activity to the employer. Based on that, you can track the employees who are engaged in such activities.
Remote Access To Employees’ Computer:
Now, even if you track violations happening in your firm, it won’t be easy to address all those issues at a time. Meanwhile, there are also chances of happening further data breaches. To control that, Kickidler has an option which let you control employees’ computer. This feature can also be useful when an employee is absent, and you need to access some vital information from its system. Or you can also use this feature to install new software updates or changing any application in the employees’ computer system.
Keystroke Logger:
With the keylogger feature of Kickidler, you can also check the keystrokes of your employees’ computers. In case if employees got engaged in activities like messaging, and doing chit-chat on social media, you can invisibly track what they are typing in their system.
Data Leak Protection:
The best thing about the Kickidler tool is that it has a DLP system. Even if any employee in your firm got himself trapped in the phishing or hacking attack. It will automatically cancel the operation and enhance the data security of your organization.F
Classroom Monitoring:
Kickidler workplace surveillance software is also getting popular in schools and colleges. With a centralized system, teachers can easily administer the computer activities of students. As you know, it also has a violation filter option, which can detect whether students are busy studying or they are playing games.
Technical Support:
In terms of technical support, I’ll give full marks to this software. Most of the Kickidler users are satisfied with this software. The good thing about this employee monitoring software is that their support team provides free maintenance until the subscription period is on. Although a user might face some technical difficulties in the starting. But after using it for some time, you will get used to it.
Check this video:
https://youtu.be/Yh0BOrCMRiA
Plans & Pricing:
Other than the Freemium trial offer, you have six different options with its subscription packages. Starting with per month plan, you have yearly and lifetime plans also. With all the subscription plans, you can access similar features monitoring features only.
I find this Kickidler as an excellent workplace surveillance solution because of its exceptional features. But adding more to that, it also offers free maintenance and unlimited tech support.
Final Evaluation: Kickidler review 2020:
From the view of an employer, I find the feature of Kickidler very intriguing and useful. In terms of data security and work productivity, this tool can perform exceptionally well. It can also be an excellent tool for individuals who want to protect their children from the negative influence of the Internet.
If you find something missing in this review and want to add something, you are always welcome to comment here.

Up until now I could not have been happier with my custom ThreadRipper water-cooled machine. This thing is an absolute beast and has been running flawlessly for the past few months. It’s also been an amazing platform on which to build and develop my RGB LED lighting skills.
You can check out the full experience of how this workstation was built in a two part series: Part 1 – “Threadripper PC Build Update!” and Part 2 – “It’s Done! The EPIC Workstation Build Is Alive!”.
However, I have a little bit of an issue… there is something growing inside the loop. Luckily it is not organic, so it’s not growing and taking over, but I don’t know what to do. This is exactly the reason why I avoided going into custom water cooling for so long, because the eventual maintenance creeps up. The first issues arose when I was traveling for two weeks and then came back to the office, I turned the machine on and I noticed these white little particles were flowing through the loop. Initially, I thought there were just bubbles that had accumulated while the system was idle, but no they were actual particles flowing through. Then I noticed something really strange, which is that those particles were really fine and started to rise up to the top of the reservoir. Those particles were also starting to distribute themselves throughout the loop on the GPU block, on the CPU block, and at the bottom of the reservoir as well. I was even considering taking a sample and bringing it to a biology lab, but I realized that this thing is not organic.
In this article, we are going to talk to a few experts on what to do when these things happen. I will guide you through my journey of draining my very first water-cooled system, and replacing the GPU block because that thing is nasty. Since I don’t know the answer, I would like to get some opinions on what is happening inside my loop. Let’s call my friend Ali Sayed from Optimum Tech to see what he has to say. He has not yet seen what is happening in the GPU and blocks, I just want to get his live reaction to this issue, which is issue that probably stops most people from water-cooling in the first place. So let’s give him a call:
Dmitry: Hey, what’s up man?
Ali: Not much, what’s going on?
Dmitry: Well there’s a problem with my water-cooling loop. The GPU block should not be that colour. It has this yellow tint.
Ali: Oh, I see. Yeah, I see that, what’s going on there? I thought this was not part of the loop. I thought that was part of the block, like the plate.
Dmitry: Have you seen anything like it? Like this is not organic. This isn’t something that’s growing inside of it. It’s more like fine particles that have settled throughout the block. Like at the bottom there.
Ali: I definitely haven’t seen anything like that. Honestly, if it’s just like really fine particles you might not have don’t have to pull the block apart or anything. See how it goes just flushing it out. Good luck, hopefully you don’t have to pull the whole thing apart cause that’s going to be a nightmare.
Option #2, let’s call JayzTwoCents to see if he can help.
Dmitry: Are you ready to see this nastiness? Let me know what you think. You can see some discolouration happening, there is a bit of yellow right and a bit of white. The interesting part is that it’s not actually part of the loop where the water goes. It’s underneath the transparent piece.
Jay: Yeah, you will experience that in almost every block. Were you using reusing soft tubing?
Dmitry: No, brand new hard tubing.
Jay: What happens there is the only O-rings that exist are kind of around the exterior to keep it within its channel. And then underneath the main block, which is probably covered by that metal, there is an O-ring that goes all the way around the exterior. But what happens is you only have acrylic touching the actual metal and so it doesn’t make a really good seal, and what you’re getting through there is just some of the residue that is pretty much a part of every fluid except distilled water. Due to the temperature changes from the block getting warm from load and you get some expansion and some contraction of the plastic and the metal, which allows for gunk to eventually work its way up in there. Every block I’ve ever done has had that sort of a residue, but what’s interesting is the way yours is kind of a yellowy colour. That’s why I asked if it was soft tubing, because the soft tubing has plasticizer in it.
Jay: That block is holding up really well though. Actually, if you wanna know the truth, that’s one of the cleaner messes that anyone has shown me.
Dmitry: Oh really? Haha.
Jay: Yeah. I don’t think a lot of people realize that that’s going to happen on every block that has an acrylic top like that. There is always going to be kind of a buildup that happens between the layers and if you disassembled that block it would just wipe off with a damp paper towel and detergent. It wouldn’t even need any scrubbing. Opening the blocks is a must, and it’s easy enough you just need Allen/hex keys and usually they come apart really easily. You have to clean those channels out, because if you leave any of that in there it just gives another place for stuff to start catching and building up again. I also do another step that a lot of people tend to forget about, which is actually disassembling your fittings and cleaning those out to you. Because you will start to get build up inside the actual fitting nozzle itself. A lot of people tend to forget about that, but it’s just another place where you are switching between materials, going from either a PETG or an acrylic tube into a nickel-plated fitting into then a copper block. When you get all those materials near each other reactions can happen.
Dmitry: I’m surprised at how quickly you were able to detect what the issue was, and even explain what the colouration was and what it’s caused by. So I appreciate your insight. Thank you so much.
Jay: There are a lot of people that are going to say water-cooling is totally unnecessary and not worth it – and that is very true for many people – but once you go down that rabbit hole and it becomes a hobby it’s just part of building a computer. And it becomes kind of a fun game to see how long can I get away with this without necessarily having to do a deep clean of all the pieces. You kind of learn which brands you can get away with and which brands you can’t. Glad I could help.
Thanks to Jay I had now had everything I needed to know, so let’s tear down this system. However, since it’s my main workstation, first I transferred all current projects doing this USB SSD just in case.
Above you can see the drain port, which is conveniently located at the bottom of the case and is how the system is drained. Once it’s largely drained I refilled the loop with distilled water. As distilled water rushes through the GPU block it’s actually cleaning up some of that build up, which is nice. However, in doing so the CPU block actually got clogged up even more.
Alright, so the new GPU block is installed. I’m still incredibly impressed with how easy that was, both from ASUS and Corsair’s side. It’s looking super clean, I love that look. Now it’s time to take out the CPU block and clean it, because apparently it’s actually quite easy to disassemble it, clean it with a toothbrush and some distilled water, and put it back together. There is only one way to put it back together, so there shouldn’t be any way for me to mess that up. The good thing is that I can leave some of the tubes in place attached to the radiators and just take out the CPU block by itself, which makes the reinstallation of everything back into the case much easier. This also gives me an opportunity to dust it and clean everything.
Now it’s time to take out the CPU block and see what the damage is. Unfortunately, the state of the CPU block is worse than I thought, so let’s give it a good clean with a toothbrush inside a distilled water bath. I used a white light intentionally just to show you how much residue has come off. It’s looking much better. Let’s move on to the rest of the block that you can also disassemble, and here we finally see some of the darker and larger particles that are present inside the GPU block as well. I worked on the base plate some more while the rest of the block was air drying.
And then it was time to piece everything back together with the properly cleaned CPU block and a brand new GPU block.
No leaks so far, that’s a good sign. The GPU block is almost filled and the CPU block is about halfway there. With that done we have ourselves a working system once again.
Alright, so now let’s talk to Hans-Peter, the gentleman who helped me build this workstation.
Dmitry: What is your best guess on why this happened?
Hans-Peter: If I have to do one guest it would be that the coolant reacted with the radiators. Like either the radiators might not have been properly cleaned, the ones that you got or the coolant has been from a bad batch or something. However, it’s so hard to tell because random stuff like this will just happen. The amount of residue that you had was quite substantial. When you first mentioned it I thought that it was just a slight film on the surface, but after seeing the pictures that was a lot of white stuff in there. I was quite surprised, because I have actually only seen that in I think one or two builds. One of which I made here at home with some very old parts and some of the first radiator and coolant samples that we have got. One of the things about water cooling is that sometimes stuff like this will just happen. It won’t be often, but you might just be unlucky run into something like this. I’ve seen some weird stuff with water cooling, like things that aren’t supposed to happen happen like clear cooling turning purple. It’s way better now than it was 5 or 6 years ago, because at that time things were a bit more sketchy. Today we do have some better parts and problems like these are way less common.
Dmitry: Well thanks Hans-Peter for your contribution and maybe look out for messages from me when I need more help.
In the end, the system is looking like Day 1 with clean blocks and no dust anywhere. I’m actually quite surprised at how little dust there was in the in there. It is quite eye opening to see what type of maintenance is involved when it comes to cleaning the blocks and discovering any issues. The good thing is cooling was perfectly fine even with the clogging on the CPU block and all those particles inside the GPU block.
Let’s go back to some wise words from JayzTwoCents and Hans-Peter:
Jay: I think a lot of people underestimate the amount of initial drainings that you have to do to get all of the oxidation reaction to stop happening. As I was explaining there is some chemical reaction or metallurgy reaction that happens between copper and liquids. It’s always going to be there, but to what extent is really going to depend on just how neutral the pH balance of your system is.
Hans-Peter: One of my rule of thumbs is that I will change something if I can see that something is wrong. If temperatures suddenly started to get real bad or something like the gunk that was in your loop shows up, even though what happened to your loop didn’t affect temperatures at all, it was only visual.
I hope you found all the conversations with our guests helpful. If you are planning to build a water-cooled system keep in mind about what could happen with the blocks, especially if they are visible. All the alloys and the liquids and the interactions between everything that is inside of it can cause issues like you saw in my loop. I’m hoping this system will last before another year or so, it has been an absolute pleasure to use it for editing, so let’s see what happens!.
