curio's chaotic guide to corralling brain squirrels ✨for Capitalism✨
obligatory disclaimer: my only qualifications are having lived with Cocaine Squirrels In My Brain for my entire life and getting the fun experience of people regularly telling me "you can't have adhd, you're too organized/successful/put together" meanwhile i am regularly held captive by my brain zooming through deep dives on cicada facts at 1 AM on a work night
first off, the general overarching bits:
Come in at 70%. I tell this to literally everyone and am stealing it from my sister, but basically—don't come into your job at 100%. That 100% will be taken for granted by you and your coworkers and become the expectation, meaning when you have a day where the brain is holding you hostage or you're tired or hungover or for whatever other reason can only give 50%, it will be a crisis. Come in at 70%, so 50% isn't a huge deal and you can whip out the 100% for some special sparkle times.
Embrace the good bits. look, lbr. cocaine squirrels are not a great time, generally speaking, in a corporate 9-to-5 space. BUT sometimes there are perks. for instance, I am the person you want in a (corporate) emergency because the right pressure (and coffee and high BPM music) makes the squirrels band together and pull some damn good shit off in crunch time. whatever quirk you feel you can leverage, do it.
okay now more squirrel-corralling thoughts (am I doing this instead of my actual job? obviously.)
build a system of systems
okay i know if I say anything about a planner or to-do list, I will be shot on sight but. well. this is about planners and to do lists
I am a chronically aspirational planner user. I love the concept of planners. love to have such a tidy and organized way of going about life. And I can use planners—for about 1-3 months at a time, max.
what I've found works best for me is to have kind of a rotation of task tracking systems: sometimes my planner*, sometimes sticky notes plastered across my desk/wall, sometimes color-coded to do lists in an actual notebook, sometimes color-coded to do lists in my dry erase notebook, sometimes notes on my computer.
I don't think it super matters what you use so much as it matters to have things in place that you can swap to when your brain stops liking the one you're using
*this isn't an ad but I rlly like the Rocketbook planner specifically because it doesn't have a timeframe, so you don't have to worry about "wasting" it during the months you're not using it. just wipe it down and start fresh whenever it's back to being useful
agree to slightly more than you should (but watch out!)
if i have a normal workload, the effort it takes to make myself Do The Thing goes up by about 50% with a negative relationship to the quantity of work. ergo I am best off if I am just slightly overutilized—if I have about 9 hours of work to do rather than 8. That doesn't mean I always work a 9 hour day (because the squirrels and I fucking hate that) but it means there's just a little additional pressure to help make it easier for my brain to, y'know, execute.
THAT SAID, it is really easy to fuck this up. don't be like me and wind up basically doing an entire contract solo (that was supposed to be a 9-person team)!!! it's bad!
mostly i think this is trial and error, so figuring out the right balance for yourself will take getting it wrong some of the time.
the squirrels crave that novelty
this is also related to the first point, but I've found I get more done if I let myself bounce between projects/tasks more than probably makes sense to people who aren't possessed by manic rodents in their brain.
I try to break down tasks in a way that lets me cross something off (dopamine! or. something??) and lets me skip over to something different/novel as a break (e.g., today I need to copy edit a bunch, draft some appendices for a different project, and create an autopopulating tab for an internal project—so I copy edited one whole section, skipped over to the appendices to get a first pass down, hopped back to the next section of copy editing, and then switched to the internal project).
too much of this can feel like playing pinball with your brain, but giving myself the option to switch out into something different helps keep me from getting into the Dreaded Tedium Stage of things
flexibility and structure
this is going to depend some on your work structure, but use what flexibility you can. My work offers a flex schedule, meaning I can take a four hour break in the day as long as I make those hours up somewhere else. I don't. necessarily recommend?? taking a 4 hour break BUT sometimes the squirrels unionize and demand I vacuum the living room, and trying to ignore it and work will be infinitely slower and more exhausting than if I just get up and vacuum and then get back to work. other times, the squirrels stage a sit-in protest and i am stuck scrolling tumblr aimlessly or re-reading fanfic for no reason and then at 8 PM they decide they actually are willing to do The One Goddamn Task i absolutely must do.
it sucks and I genuinely really hate this part of ADHD, but the best option I've found is to sometimes let them win in the moment and come back to the challenge/ask at a better time (for instance, my energy/focus tends to be worst in the afternoon and much better in the evening, so it's easier for me to get something done in the evening than fighting squirrels all afternoon).
...and on the flipside, where you can impose some self-made structure, it can also help get the squirrels in line. calendar holds (i.e., putting an event on your calendar that's just for a task/project and turning on do not disturb for notifications) can help with this if you're able to stick with them (ime this is a skill that has to be built and practiced), organizing things by 'must do' vs 'quick wins' can help, etc. as with everything, it's a process, but finding a balance between where you can flex and where you can lean on structure to help you along has been beneficial to me
anyway idk if any of this is new or helpful but my personal squirrels have been sated and i do. unfortunately. actually need to work now kbye
#long post#adhd#personal#i do also drink at least 5-6 cups of coffee per day and listen to loud fast paced music as well#obviously#but. figured those were kind of givens for the ‘undiagnosed and coping as best we can’ crew

hey i’ve been so inactive but i’m back now.
May. A new month and, as i’m sure all of you understand, an opportunity to look at where you went wrong last month and start fresh.
so i’ve started something new. some new rules to kind of relax how obsessive i am about calories but still stay in a deficit low enough to be losing weight. i’ve set myself a deficit of 1,200 on mfp, however i will only allow myself to actually reach that at the weekends or special days like birthdays, holidays etc. otherwise, i’m going to do my best to stay at around 1,000 but if not i’ll allow myself 1,100. the only reason i’m more comfortable with having the extra 200 on weekends is because one day i work for 4 hours and i don’t get to sit down at any point, i’m constantly walking around, lifting things, cleaning and if i leave early enough i can walk the long way rather than the short way to get there. during that time those extra 200 cals would have easily been burnt off. the other day i do water sports so again, the calories get burnt.
another thing that i’m doing differently this month, i’ve decided not to track vegetables. this is mainly because my parents are picking up on how much i was weighing stuff and things like lettuce, cucumber, broccoli will never be over 20 cals so i’ve decided not to count them. however i do want to count fruit because the sugar content usually makes them higher in calories.
secondly, to manage my IBS i need to cut down on coffee. so i’m going to try to only have 4 per week and no more than one a day.
third, i’m going to start writing down my total calorie intake for each day on the calendar on my wall. this way i can have a reminder of how much i should be eating and i can calculate my weekly average.
fourth, vitamins. i’ve been awful at taking them in the past and it’s noticeable when i skip them. so i’m making sure i take them before i sleep. i’m keeping them in the draw next to my bed so if i’m tired i don’t need to go downstairs. i take 1x probiotic 1x A-Z multivitamin 2x turmeric tablets (they’re anti inflammatory so help my stomach, nothing to do with weight loss) 2x colon cleanse (not laxatives, they manage toxins) and 2x metabolism boosting. they are all made from my dads line of supplements and it’s just to make me feel brighter and hopefully help me faint less as well as being in less pain with my stomach.
fifth, i start my morning very specifically now. what i want to try to do is walk in the morning but i’m taking things one step at a time. i wake up earlier to go downstairs and make myself a green tea and get a bottle of water (my bottle is 800ml and i usually drink about 6 of them everyday). i also get a hot water bottle for my stomach and sit in bed and make sure i drink all of that before i do anything else. i’ve figured out that if my mornings start well the rest of the day tends to go better.
sixth, green smoothie. some people hate the idea of drinking a litre of green liquid first thing in the morning but THIS SHIT HAS BEEN SAVING ME I SWEAR. i’m always constipated, like to the point where i’m lucky if i go once a week. however, my mum has been drinking this smoothie everyday first thing for a few months now and she’s lost quite a bit of weight. i’m not saying it’s a miracle potion but if it makes you shit that’s at least something. i make it differently to my mum, but it works well and doesn’t make you bloated (yay!).
the recipe:
- 150g frozen pineapple
- 100g cucumber
-50g celery
-25g kale
-around 5 mint leaves (optional)
-125ml apple juice (optional but does make it taste better and it’s still low calorie)
-250ml water
-1 scoop green nutrition powder (optional, i just put it in for the extra vitamins and shit)
this fits in one of the large nutribullet cups and comes to around 150-200 calories (depending on whether you include the optional ingredients)
seventh (??), i want to try to walk everyday but the weather is shit and sometimes it’s just too bad to go outside and physically go on a walk. however, one thing i do make sure of everyday is that i plank. i don’t really like doing at home workouts, plus the ceilings and walls in my house are paper thin so my family can hear everything, as much as i can hear everything they do as well. but planking, no noise :) i’ve been doing it on and off for years but i definitely recommend it’s something people get into just because once you can do it for a good amount of time the benefits are endless. your core, thighs, glutes, shoulders, back, chest. everything is working. i can plank for 5 mins and i do this before i go to bed. it’s a good distraction to listen to music in the background and for me i like to watch the timer on my phone. for some people that just reminds them of how much time they have left but it motivates me because i can see that time go down if you get me.
lastly, actual hygiene. i want to shower everyday and make sure i do my skincare so my skin doesn’t dry out too badly and my acne doesn’t flare up. when i restrict too much this is a huge issue for me and again, people notice and my parents are better now at picking things like this up because i have been enrolled in therapy for my ed before, so they have been told about all the behaviours and signs. anyway, i want to get more comfortable with showering because last month i way leaving it for WAY too long, just because i didn’t want to see my body. if i do it everyday even for 5 mins i’ll get more familiar and it’ll become a habit.
that’s what i want this month to be about i think. breaking bad habits and making new ones. i don’t want to purge anymore because tbh i don’t enjoy it, it makes me feel relieved afterwards but unless i’m really uncomfortable i hate doing it, it’s my last resort. i haven’t for months but i don’t want to self harm anymore. i have a job where i’m on show to the public and i don’t want to have to manage new cuts or scars anymore, it stresses me out and gives me very little release for the price i have to pay afterwards.
BUT, on a positive note i do want to eat over 1,000 calories each day. that will be an achievement and i want to get more comfortable with the idea that you can still lose weight on high restriction. i do want to get back into walking and enjoying it like i did in lockdown. i used to look forward to it but i began associating it with weight loss and that ruined it for me. i need to learn to enjoy it because it calms me down and it’s time on my own with nature, not just an excuse to burn calories even if it does come with that benefit. i do want to start running again even though i know that will be challenging due to how tired i am each day. hopefully with my sleep pattern getting better and with the vitamins that won’t be a problem in the near future. i want to read again, it’s such a great outlet.
I’m not ready to let go of my ed, i’m not ready to let go of the control i have right now. However, i’m doing my best to positively better myself as much as i can. this is how i’m doing it, this account is anonymous so don’t compare yourself. you don’t know my age, build, my lifestyle or my situation well enough to even begin to compare yourself. we all struggle, i am still struggling a lot. this whole post seems like i’m doing great but i still cry over 10g of peanut butter. i still get angry when i can’t stick to the plan. i still get nervous when food is mixed into any social situation. this month is about coping in the best way i can.
i really hope that from this someone can take something positive that will improve your quality of life no matter what stage you’re at and just to disclaim, i fully support and encourage recovery, i’m just not in it right now. this is not a pro account, it’s a place for me to vent without judgement.
have a good day :)

I swear that my body hates me.....
I am not sure why my body hates me so much. I am fighting an uphill battle every damn day with the fibromyalgia as well as the polymyalgia rheumatica. I have chronic pain in my joints and large muscle groups, as well as my back all the time, as well as the damn brain fog, yet still fight the pain and I give my body the excersise it needs. I go to the gym 3 times a week for an hour and work with a trainer and my workouts make me walk out of there feeling like jello and sweating so bad I look like I was doused in water. On the weekend I have taken up yoga and do at least 30min on Saturdays and Sundays. I gave up soda and almost all sugar almost 6 months ago except for the smallest bit of dark chocolate regularly. I eat multiple servings of vegetables and fruit a day and keep my proteins to lean serving of 3-4 ounces. I eat 20gm of complex carbs 5 x a day as per a dieticians recommendation (I don’t remember the last time I had a slice of white bread). I almost never drink (except for a couple of weeks of binging at the start of Covid...hey I’m human). I eat low on the inflammatory scale as well as low on the glycemic index. I take my prescribed meds as well as some regular minerals and vitamins my doctor recommended without fail. I also consume over 3 litres of water a day. Hell I only allow myself a single cup of coffee once a day in the mornings. I am using weight watchers and eating at a calorie deficit to try and lose weight to decrease the strain on my joints. What more does my damn body want want?
Not only do I never lose weight and have stopped loosing inches, I ended up being a type 2 diabetic last fall. I have taken antidepressants for my depression and anxiety for a long time. I also have high blood pressure so lets throw in couple of blood pressure pills. But nooooo.....that’s not enough! Now my god damn blood pressure is a mess. I’ve been suffering from headaches and dizzy spells so started to check it regularly. It’s gotten as high as 145/98 and as low as 80/45 all within a couple of hours. It’s so erratic that I don’t know what to do anymore. The lows are not even related to something as simple as postural hypotension. The just happen and all of a sudden I want to faint. My trainer is worried about me working out if it is too high and if it’s too low I can’t stand the dizziness. I am trying my damndest to get healthy and my body is fighting me every step of the way. I know that I abused my body badly in my late teens and early twenties due to the anorexia. Unlike so many others I Only abused my body using food and excess exercise. I never used drugs or alcohol, I’ve never even smoked for gods sake! I see people who put their bodies through hell and come out the other side healthy and fit with great bodies. What the hell do I have to do to catch a break with my body and my health? I am so damn tired of feeling sick and tired and having pain with everything I do! I would give anything to feel good for a single day. Just one day with no pain, dizziness brain fog, headache or full of allergies. Just one damn day! I have an appointment with my doctor but couldn’t get in until October 1st.
Sorry but I am feeling extremely sorry for myself tonight after spending most of the day either with a pounding headache of so dizzy I wanted to be sick. I then stepped on the scale and I had gained 3 pounds. I even went for a massage but all that did was make my areas of sever pain more apparent and now I just wanted sit here and cry. 😭😩☹️
If you read this entire post, thanks for listening to me vent tonight.

Being a Starbucks Barista During COVID-19
So…I’m a Starbucks barista that decided to go back to work. For those of you who don’t know, Starbucks gave their employees the option of whether they wanted to go back to work or not. We get paid our average hours through May 3 regardless of what we decide. I’ve been with the company for over 2 years now and have never taken a vacation. So of course I took advantage of taking a week off and getting paid to do that. Being who I am, I lasted only 1 week before I got stir crazy and wanted to go back to work. There were also some good incentives to go back to work such as our usual free drink/food and coffee bean mark-outs, but we also get an extra $3/hr, 50% discount and tips. The tips definitely make it worth it (I went from getting $20 to $120 every week!!). Anyways, I got some insight for you on what it is like to work during COVID-19 as a Starbucks barista.
Company-wide: Cafe stores are closed, hours have changed, drive thru and grab-and-go only. Most stores in each district are closed. The amount of stores that are open are dependent on the amount of employees willing to work. We, the employees, are not to blame for stores not being open close to hospitals. The stores are determined based on if they have drive thrus and if they have enough space to accommodate grab-and-go pickup.
My store: We are only open 7-2 because our district thought it was best to have 2 stores open instead of 1 to alleviate the line a bit. Our line begins forming 30 mins to open and continues being busy until we cut off the line 30 mins to close. Sometimes, the line gets out of hand and wraps onto the main road in front of our building. We have had the cops come and redirect the traffic because it gets bad at times. Typically our line is 30+ cars long and it takes us anywhere from 30-50 mins to get through the line depending on how large the orders are and who is actually making the drinks. People make the decision to get in line despite knowing it will take awhile.
At my store in particular, we get quite a few bad, rude and/or entitled customers.
“Since I can’t come inside to enjoy my drink, can I get 2 free coffees that Starbucks is offering?” Umm..what now? We are in a pandemic and we are not giving you free coffees because of the mild inconvenience. On top of that, the offer is for front-line health care workers to get a free tall hot/iced coffee. The coffee isn’t for bored soccer moms with nothing else to do...
“This line is ridiculous!! You need to get employees that can actually do their jobs.” Sorry you feel that way. We have been trying our best. Taking it out on the employees is not going to solve the problem. On top of that, we don’t have enough employees. If you want the store to remain open, you have to deal with the line. Plus we didn’t hold you at gunpoint to get in line. The only way to make the line shorter is for customers to obey the stay at home order.
“You need to open more stores.” Sorry, we don’t have enough employees. (I had to repeat this at least 3 times per person because they weren’t grasping the concept of work being voluntary.)
My manager and I went out to cut off the line because we were about to close and a woman tried cutting in front of 10 cars to make sure she could still get a drink. I told her that the line goes back behind her, that she was cutting the line, and that we were not taking any more customers. She ignored me, sped to the back of the line where my manger was and lied to her saying that I told her that she could get in line. My manger, not wanting to deal with it, told her that I 100% didn’t say that but let her in anyways to avoid any more lies and yelling.
Customers have attempted to bribe the barista stopping the line to let them in.
Several customers have ran over our sign with our hours that blocks the drive thru when we close. They think that by getting into the drive thru lane automatically means we have to serve them. Sorry, that is not the case.
One customer yanked and banged on the front door after we closed. Keep in mind, we have 4 signs on our door and I wrote our hours largely on the windows too. He proceeded to look confused, walked around to the side of our building to the drive thru window and started banging there too. If he didn’t leave, we were going to call the cops. Thank goodness it didn’t have to come to that. Our store has made too many calls to the police this past year.
“You guys always run out of food.” We order as much food as we can that makes sense. We have donated so much food to Salvation Army at the end of each day. Trust me, we only run out of popular food and that happens maybe an hour to close. If you come late, there’s a good chance that the food item you want will be gone.
Customers will crowd around the front door and attempt to drink on the patio. We have to continuously go outside to tell customers to stay 6ft apart and that they have to enjoy their drinks in their car and not by the door.
A lot of young teens come through the drive thru and then park in the lot to spend time with each other. 9 times out of 10, they don’t practice social distancing. Since they are on our property, we can get in trouble too so we try to shut it down as much as we can.
I also spend a lot of time online when I am not at work. I’ve looked on reddit, tumblr, twitter, facebook and the news to see what customer concerns were.
One customer was mad that they could no longer access the free internet we provide. Saying that we “needlessly closed the cafes.” Sir, we are not purposely attacking you. We have to think about our safety as well as yours. If you need internet, several grocery stores have free internet. You can sit in the parking lot and still access it in most cases.
“Starbucks is not an essential business and shouldn’t be open.” I generally agree with you. However, the amount of healthcare workers that come through and show us immense amount of gratitude makes it worth it. We are meant to be open to serve them. Sadly, we get more people that are meant to stay home, coming in. They make the line too long where some essential workers don’t have time to sit and wait.
Customers have been complaining on reddit that we have been rude. I can’t speak for other stores, but mine has tried to remain positive and friendly. Keep in mind that we are scared and worried just like you. We can only hold back our fear from turning negative for so long. We deal with customers not following social distancing and the stay at home order coming in. They can be mean and downright disrespectful at times. We wish that we could refuse service but we need to keep in mind our policies. Overall, we are stressed to the very limit while working. All stores are. Lines are too long, some cars have families who order 6 custom drinks that take extra time. Then mobile/delivery orders come through with up to 20 drink orders at a time.
However, there are some pretty great times too.
Customers bring in their dogs to get pup cups. I take pictures of course! They brighten up our day so much.
Customers are generous with tips. We may have tipped the scale a bit by putting two tip jars out with a yes or no questions attached to them. We have done simple questions too like “do you like cats or dogs?” or our best question was “Did Carol Baskin kill her husband?” We have fun with it and so do our customers.
We get customers that are extremely funny or pleasant to talk to while we make their drinks.
We get to meet employees from all around and make new friends.
We have the honor of serving our front-line workers.
If you decide to come to Starbucks:
Make sure you have time to wait in line.
If you don’t have 30+ mins, mobile order and come to the front door. Please give us at least 5-10 mins if you can.
Pay with card or phone to prevent cash handling. Every time we handle cash, that person has to go to the back room and wash their hands. Save everyone’s time by doing that.
Wear a mask. The CDC recommends it and it gives us more peace of mind.
Don’t touch our hands when we hand you your items. Again, we have to wash our hands, which wastes precious time.
Only front-line workers get to take advantage of the free drink promotion.
Have backup food/drink items in mind! Due to the increased volume of orders, we run out quickly. We don’t want you to waste time in line if we don’t have the specific item you want. It sucks waiting so long and to not get anything at all.
Don’t try to be funny and fake cough. It makes us freak out.Don’t be that person.
Don’t smoke cigarettes in our drive thru. Some of us have allergic reactions to the secondhand smoke. We have told people before. Most don’t listen. We have, in the past, shut the window and refused to serve them until they put it out. We hate doing that but we are not putting our employees in harms way just so you can have a quick high. Wait until you leave our drive thru please and thank you.
Be aware of our hours. Don’t get mad when we stop letting new cars come through.
Please refrain from ordering at the window. It messes up the groove of the people making drinks. It makes the line stop longer than it needs to.
Let us know if the food item you want needs to be warmed. Some items come warmed automatically while others don’t. If you come to the window, take your items and then tell us you wanted it warmed up, we have to throw the item away and get you a new one. Don’t waste food.
Same goes for drinks. Let us know if you wanted it hot or iced, what size and if there needs to be sweetener. The drinks all have their own presets. If you don’t tell us, don’t get mad when we make it to the preset. It is up to you to order correctly. Side note: if you think you are going to pull off the TikTok hack where you purposely order a grande and get to the window and say otherwise, you are mistaken. You WILL NOT get the extra drink for free nor will you get away with not paying for the size up-charge. It has happened way too many times and we are over it.
Tip your barista? We don’t have to be here, but we are. Most of us rely on tips to pay our bills. Some of us got laid off from our second jobs. Some of us have partners that got laid off and need as much extra income as possible.
In general, be nice. It makes everyone’s day better if you do. We get nasty customers and having great ones help make the day not suck. Trust me when I say that being called a c**t, a b***h, a w***e, etc. for just doing my job to the best of my ability sucks. It makes you not want to come to work anymore. Plus I believe in karma.
That’s all for now folks! Message me back stories if you are also a barista, I would love to hear how your store is doing. I will block and report trolls so don’t do it. I may update this post or make a part 2 if I have more stories. Let me know if you want to see the dog photos? Umm I think that’s it?

84 Questions
original:
https://fuckyeahsurveys.tumblr.com/post/61049002526/84-questions
1. Put your music player of choice on shuffle and list the first 10 songs
Someone New (Hozier)
Cactus Tree (Joni Mitchell)
Budapest (George Ezra)
And Dream Of Sheep (Kate Bush)
Nancy Mulligan (Ed Sheeran)
And Then She Kissed Me (St. Vincent)
Level of Concern (Twenty One Pilots)
Lovefool (The Cardigans)
Best For Last (Adele)
Video Killed The Radio Star (The Buggles)
2. If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Would you take anyone with you?
Japan. I travel a lot and it’s been on my list for a while, I would really want to go to the Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli theme park, if it ever opens that is. I would bring my best friend, Layla. I also would love to go to Amsterdam again.
3. What is your preferred writing implement? (eg. Blue pen, pencil, green pen)
My ink nib cartooning pen (similar to a quill, but without the feather)
4. Favourite month and why?
October, not too hot, not too cold, and of course, Halloween!
5. Do you have connections to any celebrities (even minor)? List them.
Nope, met several, got to true connections though.
6. Name 3 items you could pick up from where you are.
My iPad, my Leatherman Multitool, my collection of David Bowie postcards.
7. What brand logo is closest to you currently?
The Apple logo
8. Do you ever play board games or other non-computer games? Got any favourites?
Chess. Card games like Solitaire, Black-Jack, and Castle. A game that I can’t remember the name of but it’s essentially a board-game version of Capture The Flag. Mostly Chess.

St. Vincent? I’m not sure if she’s well known or not.

Sony, wireless, noise canceling, over-the ear
16. What musical artists have you seen perform live?
Twenty One Pilots, Sylvan Esso
17. Does virginity matter to you?
I guess? I think it’s important, it’s certainly some kind of ‘milestone,’ but I don’t think it should be treated like the scale of a persons ‘purity.’ It’s important because it’s sex, and (hopefully) that means that you’re sharing a consensual, intimate experience that feels fucking great for both (or all, if it’s more then two) participants.
18. What gaming consoles do you or your family own?
Z e r o, although I’m hoping to buy a PS4 at some point so I can play Detroit Become Human.

Juno is my cat, she is an adorable grey tiger-striped shorthair. She’s got little white mitten-paws and it’s absolutely ridiculous.
20. What’s the best job you’ve ever had?

Chapter 14 : Is this your gift ?
The evening went on pleasantly, as always when we were together. Mandy told us about her making out with a boy at New Year's Eve and awful uncle jokes at Christmas. Josh shared more embarrassing highschool stories from the time he was a theater kid, that Jake obviously wasn't aware of until now. The long haired guitarist seemed to feel better now, or at least his mind was focusing on something else than his breakup, adding his contribution to Josh's anecdotes and laughing alongside us when his brother shared some shameful memories of him. Both of us were tightly wrapped on a blanket after having dried ourselves the best we could. I could still feel the fabric of my dress sticking to my skin in an uncomfortable way, whereas Jake didn't bother further with his damp shirt and had completely removed it for a new one. It was his room after all. And just for the record, the knowing smile Josh had given me when his brother was shirtless had been enough to prevent me from peaking.
When night dusked on us, the boys not only decided to serve eggnog and hot tea/coffee to keep us warm, but also to get their respective guitars out of their cases, owning surprised glances from Mandy and I.
- Do you own a guitar, Josh ?
- Now I know last time I said playing the guitar wasn't one of my many talents, but with the help of Jakey here, he gestured, I think it's safe to say it is now.
- Yeah let's not get ahead of ourselves here, added the brunette.
Sitting on the carpet with my cup of hot tea/coffee warming my hands and the blanket still on my shoulders, I let my back rest against Jake's bed while intently watching him place his accoustic guitar on his thighs, making sure it was in tune. Seeing Josh study his brother while imitating him like a good student made me smile, it was a cute sight. He was very serious about it, they both were about music, there was no denying that. The boys must've played this song before because no one exchanged a word on what they were about to play and yet when Jake whispered « 1, 2, 3, 4... » and began playing, Josh joined in the soft and slow melody, letting it caress our ears. The cosy atmosphere instantly put me at ease, the warmth and softness of the blanket in addition to the boys playing together was about to lull me to sleep. It was Jake's singing voice that put me out of my drowse. Similar to his brother yet lower and rougher, less experienced and more hesitant. His eyes stayed on his guitar strings when he sang the first lyrics of John Lennon's Happy Xmas, while I kept watching him, mouth slightly agape. Josh joined in, his singing experience more fitted to sing the acute and angelic's choir part, as he continued to glance at his brother's fingers dancing on the strings to make sure he was doing it right. The boy looked so proud by the end of the song, biting his lip with an expecting glance that made Mandy and I applaud and congratulate him.
- Okay, you're making me blush, let's listen to some music !
As time went by, Josh was getting a little bit too excited about the gifts under the tree. Like a child, he would pass by it multiple times, eyes hypnotized by the colorful wrapping paper and the ribbons on top, trying to guess what was inside. It's when Jake had finally enough of seeing him circle around them like a Christmas vulture (his words, not mine) that he declared it was time for us to exchange presents. And as I should've known, Josh was more excited about Mandy and I receiving our gifts than the other way around. He wanted to see our faces so much he had prepared his polaroïd camera for the occasion. Was it that good ? His eagerness and enthusiasm got into me and I could barely wait for him to be ready when he handed us both a small, messily wrapped, rectangular package. Once he was crouching in front of us with his face glued to the camera, Josh announced for us to start unwrapping. Decorating gifts really wasn't part of his qualifications. Everything fell apart when I pulled the ribbon, the paper opening its folds around my hand like a flower, delicately displaying the present in its heart. It was a black, red and green CD titled Greta Van Fleet, the name of their band. Seeking answers, my head shot up to Josh flashing my confused figure, while Jake simply smiled behind his cup of tea.
- You guys it's an album... W-When ? How ?
- Just to be clear, it's not a big deal, clarified Jake.
Josh put his camera aside, his bashful look glancing up from Mandy to me, before nervously scratching the back of his neck.
- Remember when you said you wanted to hear our songs again ? Well we had planned to record ourselves someday anyway so these are for you.
My heart instantly began to grow warm as a large grin spread itself on my lips, eyes fixated on the CD, the design of it, and the songs' titles. It made me so incredibly happy and giggly that they had thought about it, and took the time to make a copy for Mandy and I. And I was so proud of them for being so passionate about their music. Even if Jake made clear it wasn't anything official nor important, it still was so effing cool to hold their first album into my own two hands. I couldn't wait to listen to it, and put the tracks on my phone to keep me company during my mornings in the workshop.
- Thank you so much, I smiled before hugging them both.
- How can you even find the time to record an album ? On a Christmas Holiday !
Mandy's comment made them laugh, but she was right, the boys couldn't stay home without something to do, or so it seemed. We didn't define a particular order for the gifts so Mandy offered hers after Josh, throwing a small and soft package to him, and handing the heavy one that was Jake's. Colorful kneesocks and a bottle of whisky, which they didn't wait to try on, of course. Josh immediately got into the kitchen to change to shorts so we could see his socks, and Jake poured himself a glass of whisky, switching between his two glasses.
- Okay doll, your turn.
- So, just in case you were wondering, Mandy and I already exchanged gifts because we saw each other during the holidays, I explained while handing them both a neatly wrapped package. So these are yours.
Seeing the boys squeeze and shake the gifts to try and figure what was inside made me more nervous than I had anticipated. I looked sheepish, in the middle of the room, sitting on the ground with my butt on my ankles, patiently waiting for them to stop with the suspenseful atmosphere and just rip the paper off their gifts. Josh was the first to give in to curiosity and was in my arms the next moment, thanking me for the gloves. It seemed like my friend and I raised the same concern about Josh's winter attire. Like he did with her, the boy kissed my cheek before trying them on, while Mandy took pictures, letting the polaroïd photos fall on the comfy carpet. Turning my head to Jake sitting on his bed, I couldn't really decipher his expression. A tiny black box was open in his hand, eyes caressing the ring on it like he wouldn't dare touching it. Suddenly feeling bashful, I understood it was time for me to explain myself regarding my choice of gifts, so I stood up, and carefully took place next to him.
- You forgot your rings at my dorm the other day, I said softly. I always see you wearing tons of them, so I figured I'd take this opportunity to buy you a new one... and also because the black one fell behind the fridge and I can't get it.
A small, nervous giggle escaped my throat. I wanted him to know that, like their album, it wasn't a big deal. I hadn't given it much thought when I chose to buy him a ring, there was no promise nor engagement behind it, just... Me thinking he would like another one of those. Or did I ? Interromping my rambling, Jake's hand squeezed my thigh and his eyes found mine, face affectionate, smile warm.
- Thank you. I love it.
My face grew uncomfortably hot as we just stared at each other, with his long calloused fingers resting on my knee, long enough for me to start squirming on the bed. This sudden proximity was already making me a nervous wreck, so I abruptly stood up, nearly knocking my head on Josh's bed in the process.
- Right, your rings, here.
Opening his hand, I placed the three of them in it, enjoying the feeling of my fingers caressing his, before turning on my heels to get another drink. The other two must've noticed, because in the corner of my eye I saw them exchanging a knowing yet skittish glance. And I didn't even wanted to think about what these gremlins were up to, not that I had the time to do so anyway because it was Jake's turn to get on his feet and grab his paper bag, placing thin boxes in Mandy and I's hands. Already knowing what he bought my roommie, I waited a bit to see her reaction when opening the box. And her reaction to the jewelry was great, she screamed excitedly, jumped and hugged Jake in a tight embrace but... I kept staring at the silver bracelet Josh was tying for her while confusion swept over me. It wasn't the one he had chosen.
- Won't you open yours ?
Jake's low voice was in my ear, making it instantly redden as if every part of my body agreed to fall under his charm. Doe eyed and taken aback by his sudden closeness, Jake’s hands found mine, making them slide on the smooth material, guiding them to open the box, glancing up at me when they did, studying my reaction. When my eyes landed on the gift, the thumping of my heart was so loud I got scared for a second he could hear me. It was the necklace he bought the other day. Even more confused, I searched in his brown pupils for an answer I didn't receive, fingertips shakily holding the box.
- Do you want me to put it on for you ?, his husky voice murmured.
Maybe my body went on auto pilot mode because the next thing I knew, his fingertips delicately put my hair back and caressed the sensitive skin of my neck to attach the purple necklace, his hair tickling me in the process. Jake took a moment to admire the sight in front of him, a smile on his face.
- I was right, it looks good on you.
- Thank you, I murmured, feeling shy.
It was all too overwelming. The present, our newfound intimacy, his gaze scrutinizing me, his breakup... It made me feel several ways all at once, something I wasn't quite ready for, and hadn't expected when I came here to party with friends. Josh must've known about the Mina situation because he didn't interfere once this evening, letting us grow accustomed to each other's presence, trying to test the waters like two strays encountering each other in the purest way imaginable. Like we were meeting for the first time. And while we kept looking into each other's eyes for an unspoken truth, the sound of music woke us from our transe. Josh had begun chanting along the slow song, quietly but confidently, sharing the joint he had lit up with Mandy, taking her hand in his, making her sway gently in the room.
Stars shining bright above you,
Night breezes seem to whisper « I love you ».
Birds singing in the sycamore trees,
Dream a little dream of me.
We watched them dance in silence in the dimmed lit room before Jake offered me his hand, the ring I had bought him reflecting the candles' light, shining bright. I gave him mine, and his arm found its way in the small of my back, pressing our bodies closer to each other, eyes never leaving mine. My dress was still a little bit damp, but he didn't seem to care, more engrossed in making me sway smoothly than everything else. And my whole being was so captivated by him that I couldn't care less about anything else happening around us. We were in our own little bubble, Josh's voice the only thing reminding us we weren't the only two people in the world. I didn't know how long it lasted, probably 3 to 4 minutes, the lenght of the song, but my eyes kept looking at him, lost in the brown ocean of his pupils. His embrace kept me warm, both inside and out, and I couldn't help a sheepish grin from adorning my features, showcasing the blush on my cheeks. Too absorbed himself, Jake sometimes bumped against furniture, or tripped on the carpet, but then we smiled, and continued dancing. I could tell we both were at ease with each other, his touch felt natural, like our skins were meant to connect. It made me think of the last time we were here together, on his bed, sharing our knowledge about stars and comets. The only star I could see now was him, shining oh so bright just in front of me, beautiful.
It all came to a stop when the song ended, filling the room with silence. Our eye contact continued, intense and questionning, as we got back to Earth, arms still tangled together. From afar, I could hear Josh changing the record, talking to Mandy, but everything seemed like a distant mumble to my ears.
- Would you mind ?
It was Josh, shaking us awake, making us hurriedly let go of each other as if we just realized what was going on. We were still baffled when he took Jake by the shoulders to move us away from the desk, opening the drawers in need of something all of a sudden.
- Oh !, exclaimed Mandy.
We all jerked our heads to her, hiding her giggles behind her hand in a girly way. Josh followed, an awfully wide toothy grin stretching his lips. Jake, like me, looked positively confused. Was my dress damaged ? Did I fuck up and didn't realize ? Like he had thought the same, the long haired boy looked at me, without finding anything, before Josh took place next to Mandy, backed against the drawer holding the records, joint in hand. Mine raised in a questionning manner, not understanding why they were serving us the big mischevious smirks.
As an answer, Josh slowly pointed his index to the ceiling. Mistletoe.
- You know the rule.
My whole body shook with embarrassment, not knowing how Jake would react and not really wanting to know either. Refusing to meet his gaze, I kept mine fixated on the ground while he studied the branch hanging out from a string, dangling above our heads like it was mocking us. Oh how I always hated those situations. All of them including a cute boy that would probably refuse to kiss me, without sparing me the shame of his rejection. I had to cut this awkward moment short.
- We're not forced, I murmured, if you don't want to then I-
- Who says I don't want to ?
That left me mouth agape. Jake didn't let my brain any time to process any of these informations before placing a hand to my jaw, brushing away the hair from my face, watching me carefully, silently asking for permission. My eyelids fluttered shut before I could even think, and in an instant, a soft and warm touch covered my lips, making me sigh deeply, releasing the breath I didn't know I was holding. My hand found his cheek at the same time his caressed the spot behind my ear, and his scent filled my nostrils. My heart was about to leap from my ribcage, and the simple sensation of his lips against mine made my knees turn to jelly. My head was filled with fireworks. I felt so small and vulnerable yet so safe in his arms, I never wanted for it to stop. During several seconds, we shared a chaste kiss, that lasted maybe more than was initially intentionned. Slowly, painfully so, I felt Jake's soft lips separating from their playmates, sighing, as we shared a shaky breath, opening our eyes to discover the other's face. I could tell in his gaze that something had clicked. His eyes were staring at me behind heavy lids, a sparkle I never saw before twinkling, watching me as if he was rediscovering me all over again while Bruce Springsteen's Fire played softly in the background.
You say you don't love me
But you can't hide your desire
When we kiss
Ooh... Fire.

Bleeding Hearts | Elu Vampire Soulmate AU | Ch.2
AO3 link
Eliott is living on alcohol, weed and blood. That drives his dead body on a daily basis, giving him at least some kind of purpose in his meaningless life. Being immortal sucks. Being dead sucks even more. All he wants is to get out of this endless loop of nothingness, but he doesn’t expect that to happen so soon. When he meets him, his world turns upside down and his heart starts to beat again.
Ch.1
Crossing paths
Blood was dripping down from his lips as he raised his head. An inhuman groan left his throat as the warm liquid filled his insides. His whole body was on fire, he felt himself becoming stronger, invincible even. The metallic flavor on his tongue reminded him of who he was and where he belonged, to the darkness. No one could stop him, because he could kill them all. There will be no more hesitation, no more holding back. The beast inside him cried out, showing his dominance. He slowly opened his eyes that were sparkling blue in the dim light, gazing down at the body in front of him. A beautiful face, small frame, the disheveled brown locks now bathing in deep crimson liquid that was still flowing out of the two holes bitten into his soft neck. Large, ocean blue eyes wide open, showing no signs of life in them. Lucas was dead. The monster killed him.
Eliott’s eyes snapped open, gasping for air. His whole body was covered in cold sweat, hair sticking to his forehead, tears rolling down his cheeks. He grabbed the shirt he was sleeping in, trying to normalize his breathing and heartbeat. It was such a hard thing to live with a functioning body after spending more than twenty years to get used to being dead. He was just like every other human being, sweating, crying, swallowing, peeing, sleeping, but still different. The sun still burned him, that was sure and he still craved for blood more than anything. Actually things got worse in the last few days.
He kept following Lucas from afar, making sure the boy won’t notice him. He knew that this was not right, but he just couldn’t hold himself back. It was a strong force inside that made him listen to his newly awakened heart instead of his head. And of course it wouldn’t shut up about Lucas. He needed to know where he lived, where he was working, going to school, to get coffee, who he was visiting at the hospital. Every single detail about his life. At least it was a reason for him to get out of his apartment. Luckily the weather was really cloudy and cold, so he was able to be outside during daytime. He had to admit that with his alive body there came a lot of inconveniences, like feeling cold. Wearing shoes were just as awful as he remembered, but he needed it to protect his feet from the cold. Funny how just for that he wished his dead body back.
He reached for his phone, that somehow ended up on the floor next to his bed to check the time. It was already past 10, so Lucas was already on the campus, probably being bored to death. Eliott loved to watch him through the university building windows as he was sitting in the classroom, tapping on his cheeks with a pencil, gazing at the professor with those beautiful, ocean blue eyes. Whenever it seemed like the boy noticed him, his heart would beat a thousand miles per hour, just to realize it’s basically impossible. He was a vampire, Lucas was a mortal, therefore he was not able to recognize him until he wanted him to. Of course that was all his heart wished for, but he just couldn’t let it happen. He knew if he would enter the boy’s life in any form, he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from being around him all the time, trying to get his attention and make him fall in love.
He got up from his bed. Since he met his “soulmate” and his heart started beating again he needed much more sleep than before. Now it was 5-6 hours instead of 1 or 2. His abilities were still the same, he was fast, quiet, agile and strong. It was just his brain needed a break and his body needed recharge, which was accomplished by sleeping.
The kitchen was a bit messy, since he tried to cook something last night, which almost ended with burning down the place. Thankfully he was fast enough to put out the small fire in the pan, but he was sure that the omlette he was making died in the accident. A sad story really. He might do a funeral for it later the day by the trash cans behind the building. Gotta give the honor to those poor eggs that sacrificed themselves to prove him that becoming a vampire didn’t help with his cooking skills.
He was too sleepy to clean up his own mess, so he just turned on his coffee machine and waited for it to make him some liquid black gold. His hands were still shaking and his heart was racing after the terrible dream he had. Ever since he was following the boy, nightmares like this were haunting him endlessly, reminding him of what could happen if he gets too close to Lucas. What happens if he loses control when he’s around him. That’s why he has to stay away, just observing from the distance, never initiating any sort of contact. One cup of black coffee later he was agressively staring out the window, well more precisely through a small gap between the thick curtains. The sun was shining bright, no signs of clouds. He hated days like this, because it meant that he had to spend his time inside his apartment, far from Lucas.
He took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down. This was not the end of the world, he will go to see him after the sun sets, until then he has a lot of time to spend. The living room was also a mess, crumpled papers, empty beer bottles and an empty box of chinese takeout he ordered after last night’s tragedy. He flopped down on the couch, turning on the TV and just letting it fill the annoying silence. Well, he could hear people walking on the streets, the old lady downstairs talking to her cat, some young couple having sex a few doors away. Who the hell has sex at 11 in the morning? Don’t they have a workplace or school to attend to? Fucking youngsters.
━━━━
He was halfway through a TV show called The Umbrella Academy when he got startled by his buzzing phone. He reached for it, snatching from the coffee table he was resting his feet on and accepted the call without checking who was calling him.
“Yes?” he asked, his voice was still a bit raspy, considering he haven’t talked to anyone in days now.
“Eliott, my favorite barista! How’s it going?” came the enthusiastic voice of Alexandre Delano from the other side of the line. He couldn’t help the small smile creeping up on his face. They knew each other since a while now. Even a vampire needs a job to maintain his regular life somehow, like paying rent, his Netflix subscription, buying weed, alcohol, coffee and other unhealthy things to fuel his body on a daily basis. That’s why he had a part-time job at a night club a couple streets away from his apartment. It was perfect, because they opened after sunset and were closing a few hours before dawn, which meant that he could work without making stupid excuses when it’s a sunny day. Plus the job was fairly easy, he had to make cocktails, serve it and be charming. Basically the perfect place for a vampire. It also helped him with his self control, since it wasn’t easy being around so many people, feeling their pulse pumpig to the rhythm of the loud music, exposed necks and easy preys everywhere.
“Hey, Alex. Long time.” he said softly, pausing the episode he was currently watching. “What’s up?”
“I was wondering if you could come in and cover a shift for us today. You weren’t here since a week now and Emma fucking misses you.” he said with playfulness in his tone, which made Eliott chuckle.
“Or she just misses my special margarita cocktail.” he joked, but it was probably true. Emma was his coworker, just like Alex, but she couldn’t quite keep herself away from the drinks. She almost got fired a couple times, but the boys always stood up for her.
“Oh, come on, man! We all miss your stupid face!” he claimed. “What would we do without your sarcastic jokes and grumpy behavior?”
“That’s just super nice, thank you.” he murmured, rolling his eyes with a fond smile on his face.
“You know how I meant. And it’s fucking friday, students are going crazy! There will be a lots of people. We need all the help we can get.”
“Chill, Alex. I was in the minute I heard your voice.” he calmed him softly, enjoying the warm feeling that was spreading in his chest.
“Really?! That’s cool. See you at 21h?” he asked happily and Eliott could hear Emma’s voice in the background. They were probably out together somewhere.
“Sure. See you.” he replied and hung up.
━━━━
Long hours passed and the club was now filled with mostly tipsy and wilding university students, trying to get rid of all the stress they’ve been gathering throughout the whole week. Eliott was surprised that his beast didn’t even try to burst out, even though he drank half a liter of AB+ before he left his apartment. Maybe it was because of his beating heart, he had no idea, but there was no reason to complain, since that made his job ten times easier.
He had a lot of fun at the bar with Alex and Emma, making cocktails, serving drinks to sweaty youngsters, enjoying the thumping sounds of dubstep and techno music while watching the crowd of bodies swaying on the dance floor. Of course the brunette couldn’t help herself and got a tiny bit tipsy within two hours. She was a pain in the butt to handle, keep spilling drinks, jabbering at the guests and dancing around the boys clumsily. They had to help her up or clean the mess she made, but they didn’t mind it, because they were having fun. Eliott couldn’t remember the last time he laughed so much, but with all these new feelings inside him, everything was much more intense. Halfway through their shift Alex pointed out how he changed, but in a good way and that he is happy for him, to which Eliott replied with a wide grin. He really was happier and his friend had no idea how much he actually changed. Finally he could feel like he was a normal boy, who wasn’t 48 years old, stuck in a 20 year old body and craving for other people’s blood. He was just Eliott, the bartender.
Somewhere around midnight he needed to go to the bathroom, just to wash his face and refresh himself. Babysitting Emma all night was a hard task, even for an immortal. As he looked in the mirror, water dripping from his face he felt like he is not seeing a monster, but himself. The young boy that got killed so long ago by a creature of the night made his way back, taking over his body, enjoying his life. He wished for this to be permanent, but a little voice in the back of his head kept reminding him that he can never be normal again, that he and his whole life is completely fucked up.
He wiped his face with a paper towel and exited the bathroom, walking back towards the bar. He had to stop for a moment when his heart skipped a beat. It was so sudden and unexpected, that he got shocked. It took him not more than a few seconds to notice the cause of it. Lucas was standing by the bar, holding a bottle of beer and chatting with Alex casualy. Eliott panicked. His breathing quickened, heart racing like there’s no tomorrow and his nose got filled with the oh, so familiar scent of mint and deodrant, covering all the different smells that were flying around in the air. He could only see and feel the presence of Lucas, everyone else ceased to exist for him.
What the fuck is he doing here?!
He could feel his palms getting sweaty, hair sticking to the nape of his neck. His heart was screaming at him, telling him to go over there, talk to Lucas, but this time his brain was sober enough to start coming up with escape routes. He knew he shouldn’t be running away from his workplace, but he couldn’t go there to the brunette and act like he wasn’t just following him for 2 weeks in a row, watching his every step, memorizing his classes and routines.
No, he can’t go there. No way. He was just about to head towards the back door that was leading to the storage, sneaking out from there, when Emma appeared next to him. He was usually well aware of his own surroundings, being able to tell if someone tried to approach him, but not this time. He was too fucking preoccupied with a certain brown haired, blue eyed boy that was currently laughing at something his stupid friend - Basile, if he remembers his name correctly - said just now. And damn if that laugh wasn’t the best thing he ever heard, Adding to that he was wearing tight, stone washed black jeans with a black button up shirt. Eliott swallowed.
“Hey, Eli! My sweetheart, why are you standing here alone?” she chirped, the smell of vodka mixed with brandy almost, almost covered the sweet scent of Eliott’s beloved boy. Emma threw her arm around the guy’s neck and pulled him towards the bar, keep rambling about some shit. He tried to resist, but it would be too suspicious. He had no choice but to join his friend at the bar.
“Hey! You’re back!” Alex yelled over the loud music happily. “I was worried that you flushed yourself down in the toilet.” he joked and nudged his side playfully.
Eliott would laugh at his joke, but all of his hairs were straightening up as he felt the strong presence of Lucas. He was too busy explaining something to his friends at the moment, so he got the chance to just take him in. His beautiful face, his strong jawline, that fucking disheveled hair, his long lashes that were casting spidery shadows on his soft cheeks. Damn, he was so beautiful.
He got startled out of his thoughts by fingers snapping in front of his nose. He shook his head and looked at Emma, who was standing in front of him with a smug grin on her face. Oh, fuck!
“Whatcha lookin’ at?” she asked, though it seemed like she already knew the answer. Eliott took a deep breath and shook his head. It was almost impossible to take his eyes off of Lucas, but he somehow managed to do it.
“Nothing, I’m going back to work.” he said, trying to sound nonchalant, walking to the other side of the bar, as far away from the boys as he just could, but before he had a chance to get away, Alex grabbed his hand, pulling him to his side. He gasped as the realization hit him that all four boys had their eyes fixed on him. Those ocean blue ones were even more beautiful in the blue and pink neon lights of the place. His heart was beating to the rhythm of the music that was currently playing, though he couldn’t tell what it was actually.
“Don’t try to escape!” Alex said with a wide smirk on his face, pointing forward with the hand that wasn’t gripping into Eliott’s shirt. “These are my sweet friends. They just started college.” he explained enthusiastically. The gang in front of them smiled friendly, they must have heard about the mysterious Eliott Demaury already. Emma likes talking when she’s drunk and he was away for enough time for her to spill some tea to basically anyone that was in her vicinity.
“Hey, you must be the famous Eliott.” Yann said, her bright smile was in stark contrast with his skin color, which was just extremely charming. Eliott would sure find him handsome, but his eyes were still fixated on one face and it seemed like Lucas also had his full attention on him. Ocean blue eyes boring holes into his face, making his cheeks heat up. What the fuck was this boy doing to him?
“Yes, he is.” Alex answered, pinching his side while shooting him a disapproving look that was saying ‘Just this one time, be nice to them, okay?’ Eliott wished if he could do that, but as he opened his mouth, nothing came out.
“Ahw, look at him, being at loss of words.” Emma chimed in, sipping on a glass of god knows what, having a wide smile on her face still. “Excuse him, but he probably never seen such beautiful boys like you. Not Basile, but like the others.” she said smirking, winking at her friends.
“Hey! I’m attractive, okay?” the curly haired boy whined, slamming his beer bottle on the counter, earning a grumpy look from Alex.
“No, I’m fine.” He finally managed to find his voice and talk. He could see something shift through the brunette’s face, but it was gone in a second. “Yes, I’m Eliott. Nice to meet you.” he said and his foolish brain and his fucking polite behavior made him raise his hand. Yann grabbed it first, sending him an encouraging smile.
“Yann, nice to meet you.”
“Arthur.” was the next one, hair softly curling up by his ears, his glasses sitting peacefully on his reddened cheeks.
“Basile, we heard a lot about you.” he said with an excited grin, shaking the offered hand a bit too fast and too long. Still Eliott would rather take that than touching the last member of the gang. His heart threatened to just burst out of his chest in excitement and fear. Last time they touched was so fucking intense he got a panic attack, so what would happen if they shake hands?
He had no chance to get away from it now. Basile’s sweaty palm left his, so he reached towards Lucas, who looked a bit nervous before grabbing it. The feeling of it was like electricity blasting through his nerves and veins, freezing him to the spot where he was standing. It was like something clicked inside him, like a puzzle piece finally found it’s place in the big picture. As he examined the face of the other, he just knew that Lucas was feeling this intensity too. He pulled his hand back like he was touching fire, eyes widening from shock.
“What’s wrong, Lulu?” Alex asked worried, switching his eyes from Eliott to the boy and then back.
“Nothing.” he mumbled, his voice slightly shaking. He unconsciously licked over his bottom lip, taking it between his teeth while looking at Eliott, searching for answers on his face. He wished if he could give it to him, right after he kissed those soft lips bright red. I am so damn fucked.
“Wanna go back to dance?” Yann asked softly, placing a hand on his best friend’s shoulder, who finally tore his gaze away from Eliott. He could finally breathe normally again.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea.” he mumbled on a soft tone, finishing his beer with a few gulps and Eliott couldn’t help, but stare at his Adam’s apple moving up and down on his throat. He had to grab the counter because his fangs just popped out. The control he had over himself for the last few hours was thrown out of the window now. Every single nerve in his body was screaming for Lucas as he walked back to the dance floor with his friends.
He was dragged out of his daze when Alex a bit too roughly poked his side with his elbow. As he looked at his friend, he could see confusion and a hint of disapprovement in his eyes. The urge to tell him everything and explain that he wasn’t just picking out Lucas for a one night stand was too strong in the moment. So as an answer, he shrugged and walked to the shelves behind them, organizing their collection of whikeys.
Through the rest of the night, he barely saw Lucas. It was almost like he was avoiding him, since it was always just one of his friends coming to them for drinks. He was both glad and upset at that. Glad, because it was easier to hold himself back, controlling his inside monster that just wanted to burst out from the mere presence of the brunette. Upset, because his whole body was craving for the boy so much it was physically hurting him. He could smell him, hear his heartbeat and see his beautiful features in the crowd. This was a torture for sure.
The boys left an hour before closing, dragging a very drunk Basile with them. Emma already bailed a couple hours ago, now swaying and making out with a girl on the dance floor to some shitty techno remix. Most of the people already left the place, the rest was shit faced and close to passing out. Eliott decided to clean up the floor and the counter, while Alex went to say hi to his leaving friends. Just the thought of Lucas walking away from him was painful, but as he looked towards them, his eyes locked with a pair of ocean blue ones. His cheeks were a bit red, caused by the mix of alcohol and dancing. There was something in his gaze that sent shivers down Eliott’s spine, making his body tense up. The boy blinked a couple times, licking his bottom lip yet again, basically driving him crazy with this and focused his attention back to his friends. The three of them gave a short hug to Alex, still holding their wasted buddy in a tight grip before walking out of the door. Taking a part of Eliott with him.
━━━━
Closing went much smoother than Eliott expected. He helped to get the remaining people out of the building and clean up the place, but he could leave earlier since Alex offered to close and take Emma home. She was now sleeping on a comfy couch, that was placed in one of the corners, snorring loudly.
He put on his jacket, shaking hands with his coworker and then stepped outside. The cold breeze of the morning air shook him up a little, helping to get rid of his sleepiness. It was still hard to get used to feeling tired and the need to sleep. His feet was making a crunching sound on the sidewalk as he took a few steps, then he noticed a figure standing a few meters from him, leaning against the wall. He looked over and suddenly he forgot how to breathe.
Lucas was just standing there, his arms crossed, wearing his signature navy blue bomber jacket over that fancy button up shirt. His hair was falling into his face and his eyes were slightly closed. He actually looked like he was sleeping, even his breathing was slow and even, smelling a bit like beer.
He wanted to resist so bad, but it was just impossible. They were alone, people were still sleeping or going home from parties, so the street was nice and quiet. The orange light of the street lamps were casting dark shadows over the beautiful face of the boy. As he too a step towards him, his eyes jerked open and his small body got all tensed. He looked at Eliott half shocked, half surprised.
“Hey.” he said, trying to hit a friendly tone in his voice, which seemed to ease the brunette a little.
“Hey.” his voice was almost a whisper and if Eliott wouldn’t have such sharp ears, he could have missed it.
“Alex will be coming a bit later.” he explained, since there was no other reason for him to be here than waiting for his friend. He saw Lucas was fidgeting with his hands, looking down to his feet before raising his gaze at him again. He was so fucking gorgeous.
“I was actually waiting for you.” he muttered under his breath and Eliott’s blue eyes shot wide, not believing his ears.
“Pardon?”
“I said, I was waiting for you.” he repeated now, looking a bit more confisent, his eyes filled with determination. If Eliott wouldn’t be already head over heels for this boy, well, he would be now.
“And why?” he asked, not being able to hold back the amused grin that creeped up on his face. As a response, he got a shy smile which was the most precious thing he had ever seen.
“I don’t know... I felt like I should do it.” he said honestly, shrugging like it was not a big deal, while it actually was. Eliott knew too well how that felt, because he kept having those feelings around Lucas way too often.
“Well, I am here now.” He was praying to whatever force that took over his brain in the moment, making himself be able to speak in full sentences without stuttering.
“I wanted to apologize.” he started, fingers playing with the zipper of his jacket. “I was a bit rude back then, not introducing myself and pulling away my hand, you know.” he mumbled and he was looking everywhere just to avoid the tall boy’s eyes. Eliott found that extremely endearing.
“No need for that.” his tone was soft, like warm and fresh honey. “You must have had a rough night. I can walk you home if you want.” he offered, not thinking about the consequences of his own words. Once again, his heart was much louder than his sleep deprived brain. Lucas thought about it for a second and his face split into the most heartwarming smile on the world.
“Okay, that sounds good.” he said happily, stepping on the sidewalk now.

It’s finally here! I can’t believe I managed to finish this chapter, it might be a bit short, idk but I HAD TO cut it off here, because cliffhanger and because my brain is too tired to come up with more story atm Enjoy this while you can, I’m going to have a long weekend so I might be able to squeeze out another chapter soon. Make sure to leave feedbacks and don’t hesitate to shoot me with ideas if you want. Bisous

Writer’s Interview
Tagged by @pikapeppa, whose interview is here.
tagging @space-marsupial, @autodiscothings, @soldiermom1973, @meggannn, @theherocomplex, @tarysande
Q: What is your coffee order? I’m trying to reduce my caffeine intake... BUT... I still have a hard time saying no to a cup of light roast with sugar and whole milk, because I am Weak.
Q: What is the coolest thing you’ve ever done? IDK??? Taiko is pretty cool?
Q: Who has been your biggest mentor? I don’t know that I have any mentors, per se, but I am so grateful to all my writing buddies and fandom friends, who have given me so much motivation to turn things around this year. Also... my DBT therapy team. Hoo boy.
Q: What has been your most memorable writing project? Hmm. My portfolio is so small that they all kind of blur together, but Red Streak is probably the stand out, since it was the first and biggest and most ambitious, and it led to everything after.
Q: What does your writing path look like, from the earliest days until now? GOOD LORD. Okay, well... For elementary school assignments, I used to submit shitty action movies masked as short stories (there were at least two, one set in an underwater post-apocalyptic bunker and another that was basically a Roland Emmerich ‘step-child and awkward parent vs. volcano’ scenario) and in middle school I straight-up started shamelessly handing in fanfics. For grades. For good grades. IDK what my teachers thought about my subject matter, but they couldn’t knock my skillzzz.
But other than that, nothing really serious. No formal writing classes, really, outside of one (1) creative writing summer class I took in a building that had a lot of wasps but no air conditioning, and it didn’t teach me zippo.
So, it’s just always been there? I’ve always had a nasty habit of poking at stories, usually when I read or see something that leaves a hole in my head, and I just... need... to... FIX. IT.
Q: What is your favourite part about writing? I find the entire process excruciatingly painful. Luckily, this seems to be my kink.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you? 5:40 AM - wake up, take meds, eat half my breakfast, show up exactly 3 minutes late to work. 6 - 10 AM - get paid to burn approximately 1,500-3,000 calories moving milk jugs from point A to point B while trapped in a refrigerator. 10 AM - 12 PM - (during the warm season) walk the dog, eat lunch, drink cold beverages. (during the cold season) take a scalding salt bath, eat lunch, drink hot beverages (year round) stare at a screen until I thaw out and realize I need to feed the pets. 12 PM - 6 PM - attempt to fight off ADHD and focus on any one thing long enough to make progress on it. Sometimes, but not often, this involves writing. 6 PM - 7 PM - eat, maybe????????? UGHHGHHGGH I hate this part. 7 PM - ?? AM - try to get ready for bed, have a thousand project ideas instead, “just jot down one note real quick,” end up writing 1500 words, trigger a sinus headache from eye strain, pass out while listening to ASMR.
Q: What does your writing process look like? A god. damned. mess. But digital. I LIVE IN THE CLOUD. It’s pretty much all Scrivener all the time for me now, because I like having everything in one place. I start with brainstorms, just mind-barf a bunch of random ideas, often written out like a strange, rambling conversation with myself, like this:
Though sometimes I start with a bunch of random dialogue that I have to write down the instant it pops into my head (and oh boy, getting that shit into a document before it vanishes forever is stressful) and then I later fill in the scene with action and setting and all that boring “necessary" stuff.
Basically: skeletal scene outline, followed by a few sprints to fill in details, then an endless, endless amount of editing, rearranging, deleting, hair-pulling, forgetting to eat, sitting up in bed at 1AM going, “OH MY GOD WHAT IF-” and so on...
Q: What’s the best advice you’ve gotten? Just write it.
I think Neil Gaiman said something to that effect, but I can’t find where or exactly WHAT he said, so just trust me... uhhh... it was him. Though I’ve heard many versions of this sentiment, and it’s universally fucking true. Sitting there and talking about how cool something might be doesn’t actually do anything to get that thing strangled out onto the page. You’ve just gotta sit your ass down... and write it.
Q: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned? It’s okay if it sucks.
It probably won’t suck, and even if it sucks so hard it leaves a mark, it doesn’t actually matter. Just try again. You have to give yourself permission to create something bad, and be willing to embrace the risk of failure, before you can make anything worthwhile at all. Failure is how we learn... as long as we fail honestly and use mistakes as motivators rather than fashion our failings into cudgels to beat ourselves senseless.
I think of it like this: it helps to set the bar so low that instead of trying to bend over backwards to reach it, I only need to idiotically roll across it like the magical dipshit conveyor belt of progress...
Q: What advice would you give someone who wants to start writing? Just write it. It’s okay if it sucks.

Pitch Perfect Prompt Pile: Chapter 8
AO3 | FF.net
Ship: Bechloe (Beca/Chloe) Word Count: ~1800 Rating: T
This prompt, my friends, was based on a fun Brittany Snow dream. More AUs because we all bend the truth to fit shipping anyway!
Beca came to her local dive bar at the same time every week. Friday nights after work, she’d walk through the single glass door to “Pickin’s” and promptly take a seat at the bar. She’d order food around 8 before some beers, then she’d evolve to buying multiple drinks as the night passed.
She easily became friends with all the other regulars as they’d sit on the dark wooden stools and complain about their office jobs. Beca had a mock secretarial role for a slimy music producer who never actually called her by her real name. Her friends spanned from salesmen to accountants to bellboys to c-list editors. Misery was company.
That Friday night, Beca had a particularly difficult night at work. Producer Slimeball listened to one of Beca’s demos, for once, but he actually hated it. Practically spat in her face, claimed she had no talent, and that even the most incompetent pleb with a laptop could replicate her work.
Beca wanted to just brush off his opinions out of a sense of both desperation and hurt. Obviously she wasn’t terrible, since she landed at the company in the first place, but her boss’s opinion actually had some significant weight to it since he had significant marks within her industry. But Beca couldn’t even call him out for being myopic – for not even seeing the musical genius it took to construct the heavily crafted and detailed foundations of lyrical editing. But he did have a point: none of her sources were original. Thus, Beca was drinking a little more heavily tonight.
Pickin’s bartender Silas could sense something was marginally off for his favorite petite regular, which prompted him to walk to her side of the bar and lean over the slightly wet countertop.
“What’s wrong, munchkin?” Silas laid out his affectionate pet name for Beca through a thick, southern drawl.
“The fucking usual, I guess.” Beca picked at the label around her beer bottle, using the condensation on the glass to peel at the paper.
“Work troubles again?”
“Captain Asshat proved that I have no talent and the only thing I can do right is fetch coffee. And sometimes I get even that wrong. There’s this one fucker who decides he wants THE most complicated fucking thing on the ‘off-menu’ that requires 8 special ingredients like why can’t you just get a regular coffee like everyone else?” Beca spat in a seething tone, trying to keep her voice from overriding the normal chatter around the bar.
Silas looked at Beca for a moment before deciding to answer.
“If one drink cost more than $4, it ain’t worth it. Unless its beer.” Silas decided, leaning against his hands on the counter.
Beca simmered down a little bit, realizing her bartender friend didn’t deserve her incessant complaining about work.
“You know, Silas, sometimes I wonder if that job is even worth it.”
“I think about that every time y’all get wiley or when something ugly brews out.” Silas clicked his tongue before adding: “But moments like this, they’re all worth it. We’re all one in the same – same problems, different day. Only thing separating us is this counter but I’m the same as you. Brings us on a human level. That’s connection.”
Beca reflected for a moment, fulling comprehending what Silas was referring to before seeing if it applied to her own life.
“Where’s your connection?” Silas challenged once more, stepping back towards the wall before grabbing a dirty glass from the counter.
Beca sighed, unable to find an answer.
“For tonight, just in a drink.” Beca stood up to look beyond the backlit wall of bottles for her temporary remedy.
"I’m telling you, Chlo, you need to just go for it.”
Chloe and her 5 friends decided to start their night at a random bar by her place before making their way to a nightclub closer to downtown. Even though it was still relatively early in the night, one of the girls insisted that the group pre-gamed before leaving Chloe’s apartment, so the lot was already relatively tipsy.
“Just sack up your lady balls and strut right up there.”
“Thanks, Fat Amy, I get the picture.” Chloe replied to her friend’s encouragement with a slight blush.
Fat Amy was referencing a noteworthy figure sporting a black leather jacket and dark blue jeans leaning against the bar. The girl was alone with her drink but seemed relatively friendly because she was chummy with the bartender.
Chloe had only recently came out as bisexual to her college buddies, and they were only more than positively acceptive of it. Almost too much, in fact, since they kept trying to push her onto random women they spotted in public. Encouraging, yes, but effective, no.
“She’s probably not even gay.” Chloe muttered to her friends, shyly speaking in a hushed tone across the table.
“With that jacket? Come on.” Another friend spoke, rolling her eyes and going to sip the last of her mixed drink through the straw before realizing her glass was empty. “We also need more driiiiinks.”
“Stacie, please…” Chloe whined. Her nervousness about approaching women still hadn’t changed.
“She’s right Spice Tot, we need some shots.” Fat Amy decided, with other girls nodding their heads in agreement.
“Ugh, fine. I hate you guys sometimes.” Chloe stood up, swiping crumbs off her skirt. “What am I getting?”
“TEQUILA!” Fat Amy shouted as Chloe started to walk towards the bar.
The volume was loud enough that the same figure at the counter heard it, and she ended up turning around to find the source of the noise before making eye contact with Chloe. The next 5 feet of distance was mildly awkward, but Chloe ended up strolling right next to the girl at the bar.
“Sorry.” Chloe mumbled to the girl beside her, apologizing for the rudeness of her friends.
“Bachelorette party?” The girl nudged her beer towards Chloe’s back table, eyeing the group of girls who were all laughing excruciatingly loudly.
“Oh, ha, no.” Chloe nervously laughed, moving to match the pose of the leather jacketed brunette. “Just a normal night out.”
“Ah. Yikes.” The girl muttered, sipping her drink with a cock of the eyebrow.
The girl wasn’t charming per se, but she exerted an odd sense of Big Dick Energy that Chloe had a hard time placing.
“Are you friends with the bartender?” Chloe tried to maintain conversation but using the venue as small talk wasn’t that successful. She was also trying to feel just how hard it would be to flag down the bartender to get her friends shots and flee back to her table.
“You could say that.” The girl finished the bottom of her drink before letting it rest back on the counter. “I come here a lot.”
She felt pity for the failed efforts of the lost ginger puppy next to her, so she flagged down Silas from the middle of the bar down to their end.
“Hey Silas, I’ll take a double IPA on draft and this little lady would like…” The girl cocked her head in Chloe’s direction, prompting her to reply.
“Um, 6 shots of Patrón?”
“6?” Silas asked for confirmation, holding up fingers on his hand to motion for six.
Chloe nodded with a smile before Silas left to get their drinks.
The girl scoffed in disbelief. “You can pound 6 shots?” She wanted to admit she was a little impressed, but she wouldn’t start the ovation until she witnessed it herself.
“For the Bachelorette party.” Chloe giggled, fiddling with her credit card in hand. She saw how the girl slyly grinned at her.
“I like the way you think.”
“Here’s yours, Beca, and I’ll be back with the shot orgy.” Silas dropped off Beca’s beer before turning back to grab clean shot glasses and the handle of Patrón.
Chloe felt a weird sense of internal satisfaction now that she heard the bar girl’s name, even if she couldn’t ask for it herself.
When Silas returned, he filled each of the glasses in front of the pair before topping off the rims with a lime wedge.
Chloe leaned in towards Beca, awfully close, and with a cupped hand pretended to whisper: “I could just down these all now and not share with my friends. Would sum up the amount of bad news I’ve gotten this week.”
Beca noticed the sudden intrusion of space, but she chose not to back down from the pretty redhead now orbiting her eyeline.
“Bad week too, huh?” Beca asked rhetorically. “Would you share one with me at least?”
Beca knew she was being forward, in a way that was still pretty coy. She had a hard time deciphering what the ginger’s deal was, but you didn’t exactly approach a loner at the bar to make friends. Plus Beca was at the Fuck It point in the week where it was almost if consequences didn’t apply to her anymore.
“Maybe I could spare…” Chloe whispered gently, hovering before Beca’s lips and glancing at them with soft eyes.
Beca broke the distance slowly, lazily kissing Chloe’s lips before dragging away in a downwards swipe as a tease. Chloe hungrily searched back, and their lips met again.
It wasn’t long before they started gingerly making out at the end of the bar. Beca’s hand was cupped firmly at the nape of Chloe’s neck, and they were rolling lips along one side of their faces. Beca even went so far as to open her eyes for an extended period of time, watching how Chloe’s eyelids were loosely closed and how her forehead would somehow furrow as their lips tumbled together.
Beca resumed her more concentrated effort, and the sight of the pair wasn’t hard to spot. Silas gave a short whistle as he was drying glasses with a rag, and even Chloe’s friends were starting to notice. Fat Amy’s eventual loud cheering caused Beca and Chloe’s makeout session to abruptly end – with Chloe pulling away with swollen lips and a noticeable blush.
Beca wiped the side of her own mouth with her thumb. “Well. You should probably deliver those.” She nudged at the collection of shots next to Chloe’s elbow.
Chloe gave them a quick glance before meeting Beca’s gaze one again.
“They don’t need them.” Chloe answered before grabbing Beca’s face and picking up right where they left off.

Why You Should Be Skeptical of the Latest Nutrition Headlines: Part 1
This article is Part 1 of a two-part series about the problems with nutrition research. For more on why you should be skeptical of the latest nutrition headlines, check out Part 2 of this series.
Nutritional epidemiology is basically the board game equivalent of a Ouija board—whatever you want it to say, it will say. – Dr. Peter Attia
Every week, we’re bombarded with splashy headlines in the media about the latest nutrition research. Here’s a sampling from the last few weeks alone:
“Low-carb diets could shorten life, study suggests” (BBC News)
“Eating cheese and butter every day linked to living longer” (Newsweek)
“A New Study Says Any Amount of Drinking Is Bad for You. Here's What Experts Say” (Time)
“Whole grains one of the most important food groups for preventing type 2 diabetes” (Science Daily)
“Low carb diet ‘should be first line of approach to tackle type 2 diabetes’ and prolong lifespan” (iNews)
Within a six-week period, we learned that low-carb diets will make you live longer and shorten your lifespan and that they’re both good and bad for diabetes. We also learned that consuming even small amounts of alcohol, which has long been regarded as health promoting, is now unhealthy.
For decades, we were told to limit dietary fat and cholesterol because they would clog our arteries, give us heart attacks, and send us to an early grave. Yet in 2010, the federal government removed its restriction on total fat from the U.S. Dietary Guidelines, and in 2015, they did the same thing for cholesterol, remarking that it is “not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption.” (1)
If you’re confused by this, or you’ve just stopped listening altogether, you’re not alone. And who could blame you? In a recent, scathing critique of nutrition research in JAMA, Dr. John Ioannidis, a professor at the Stanford School of Medicine, said:
Nutritional research may have adversely affected the public perception of science.
… the emerging picture of nutritional epidemiology is difficult to reconcile with good scientific principles. The field needs radical reform. (2)
In other words, you’re not crazy for doubting the latest media headlines or just throwing up your hands in frustration! In this article, I’m going to explore the reasons why skepticism is an appropriate response when it comes to most nutrition studies. Armed with this information, you’ll be better able to protect yourself and your family from the latest media hype and focus on what really matters when it comes to diet and nutrition.
Why You Can’t Trust Observational Studies as “Proof”
An observational study is one that draws inferences about the effect of an exposure or intervention on subjects where the researcher or investigator has no control over the subject. It’s not an experiment where researchers are directing a specific intervention (like a low-carb diet) and making things happen. Instead, they are just looking at populations of people and making guesses about the effects of a diet or lifestyle variable.
Observational studies are good for generating hypotheses, but they can’t prove that a specific variable causes a specific outcome.
That is the domain of a randomized controlled trial (RCT), which randomly assigns participants to two groups—a treatment group that receives the intervention being studied and a control group that does not—and then observes them for a specific period of time.
We’ve all seen nutrition headlines promising groundbreaking information that will change the way we view our health. But how many news stories are based on studies with faulty methods, uncontrolled biases, and other major problems? Check out this article to find out.
Every scientist knows this, and most journalists should as well. Yet today, it’s not uncommon to see headlines like “Low-carb diet shortens your lifespan” and “Eating processed meat increases your risk of cancer,” which imply that the studies proved a causal relationship when, in fact, all they did is establish a correlation.
Correlation Is Not Causation
The problem is that two variables that are correlated, or associated together, do not always have a causal relationship. Consider the following examples, from Tyler Vigen’s excellent webpage called Spurious Correlations:
S. spending on space, science, and technology is 99.8 percent correlated with suicides by hanging, strangulation, and suffocation.
Per capita consumption of margarine in the United States and the divorce rate in the state of Maine are correlated at 99.3 percent.
Total revenue generated by arcades is 5 percent correlated with computer science doctorates awarded in the United States.
Those are incredibly strong correlations, but I think it’s fairly obvious that consumption of margarine in the United States has absolutely no impact on the divorce rate in Maine … right?
Another great example of how easy it is to derive spurious correlations—especially when you set out with an agenda—comes from a large study of the most common diagnoses for hospitalization in 10.6 million Canadians. The researchers found that 24 diagnoses were significantly associated with the participants’ astrological signs: (3)
People born under Leo had a 15 percent higher risk of hospitalization due to gastrointestinal hemorrhage compared to other residents of Ontario.
People born under Sagittarius had a 38 percent higher risk of hospitalization for arm fractures compared to people with other signs.
In Dr. Ioannidis’s editorial in JAMA, he notes:
Almost all nutritional variables are correlated with one another; thus, if one variable is causally related to health outcomes, many other variables will also yield significant associations in large enough data sets.
As an example of just how absurd this can become, he notes that, if taken at face value, observational studies have inferred that:
… eating 12 hazelnuts daily (1 oz) would prolong life by 12 years (ie, 1 year per hazelnut), drinking 3 cups of coffee daily would achieve a similar gain of 12 extra years, and eating a single mandarin orange daily (80g) would add 5 years of life. Conversely, consuming 1 egg daily would reduce life expectancy by 6 years, and eating 2 slices of bacon (30g) daily would shorten life by a decade, an effect worse than smoking.
Are these relationships truly causal? Of course not, Ioannidis says. Yet study authors often use causal language when reporting the findings from these studies.
In fact, according to an analysis in 2013, authors of observational studies made medical or nutritional recommendations (suggesting their data showed a causal relationship) in 56 percent of cases. (4) The study authors summed up their findings as follows:
In conclusion, our empirical evaluation shows that linking observational results to recommendations regarding medical practice is currently very common in highly influential journals. Such recommendations frequently represent logical leaps. As such, if they are correct, they may accelerate the translation of research but, if they are wrong, they may cause considerable harm. [emphasis added]
I should note that it’s at least possible to become reasonably confident of a causal association between variables in an observational study using what is known as the Bradford Hill criteria:
Strength of the association
Consistency
Specificity
Temporality
Biological gradient
Plausibility
Coherence
Experiment
Analogy
The more of these criteria that are met, the more likely causation is present.
However, observational nutrition studies rarely satisfy these criteria, which makes the frequent claims of causality even more dubious.
There Are Problems with Data Collection Methods Too
There’s a saying in science: “Data are only as good as the instrument used to collect them.”
Way back in the 13th century, the English philosopher and Franciscan friar Roger Bacon said that scientific data must be: (5)
Independently observable
Measurable
Falsifiable
Valid
Reliable
To use a simple example, if someone is eating an apple right in front of you, you can observe, measure, and either verify or repute that they’re doing that. But if they simply tell you that they ate an apple at some time in the past, you can neither observe, measure, verify, nor refute their story. You just have to take their word for it—and that is not science.
The term “observational nutrition study” is a misnomer because it suggests that researchers are actually observing what participants eat. But of course that’s not true; researchers aren’t standing around in people’s kitchens and going out to restaurants with them.
Instead, they are collecting data on what people eat by giving them questionnaires to fill out. There are different versions of these used in research, from food frequency questionnaires (FFQs), which may ask people to recall what they ate months or even years prior, to 24-hour recall surveys where people are asked what they ate over the past 24 hours.
These “memory-based assessments,” or “M-BMs,” bear little relation to actual calorie or nutrient consumption. Why? Because memory is not a literal, accurate, or even precise reproduction of past events. (6)
In a paper criticizing the validity of M-BMs for data collection, Edward Archer pointed out:
When a person provides a dietary report, the data collected are not actual food or beverage consumption but rather an error-prone and highly edited anecdote regarding memories of food and beverage consumption. (7)
Going back to the apple example above, researchers aren’t watching participants eat an apple. They’re relying on the participants’ reports of eating apples—sometimes several years prior!
We Can’t Rely on Memory When It Comes to Nutrition Research
But just how inaccurate are M-BMs? To find out, Archer analyzed questionnaires from participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), which is a long-running series of studies on the health and nutritional status of the American public. NHANES has served as the basis of dietary guidelines and public health recommendations.
Archer found that, over the 39-year history (at the time of his study) of NHANES, the self-reported calorie intake on the majority of respondents (67 percent of women and 59 percent of men) was not physiologically plausible, and the average calorie intake levels reported by overweight and obese people (i.e., the majority of Americans) were incompatible with life.
In other words, a bedridden, frail, elderly woman (i.e., a person with the lowest possible calorie requirements) could not survive on the number of calories reported by the average person in the NHANES survey!
And this isn’t just a problem in the United States. The inaccuracy of M-BMs has been replicated consistently over three decades and in multiple countries around the world. (8)
Can you see why this would be a problem?
All macronutrients (protein, fat, and carbohydrate) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, and trace minerals) are consumed as calories, so when calories are misreported, all nutrients will also be misreported.
What’s more, certain subgroups are more prone to underreporting, including people who are obese or have a high calorie intake. Obese subjects have been found to underreport up to half of their calorie intake, and in particular, they underreport fat and carbs. (9)
One consequence of this is that the health risks associated with a high fat (or carb) intake would be overestimated. Imagine that someone reports a saturated fat intake of 50 grams, and they have a total cholesterol of 200 mg/dL. But say they underreported their saturated fat intake by 40 percent, and their actual intake was 80 grams. This would overestimate the effect of saturated fat intake on total cholesterol because it assumed that eating 50 grams—rather than 80 grams—led to a total cholesterol of 200 mg/dL.
Where does that leave us? Archer doesn’t pull any punches:
Data collected from M-BM are pseudoscientific and inadmissible in scientific research and the formulation of national dietary guidelines. (10)
… the uncritical faith in the validity and value of M-BM has wasted significant resources and continues the single greatest impediment to actual scientific progress in the fields of obesity and nutrition research. (11)
Most people have no idea that the entire field of observational nutrition research—and all of the media headlines that come out of it—is based on questionnaires about what people eat. Now that you know, will you ever look at nutrition headlines in the same way again?
How the “Healthy-User” Bias Impacts Findings
The “healthy-user” bias refers to the observation that people who engage in a behavior perceived as healthy are more likely to engage in other behaviors that are also perceived as healthy and vice versa.
For example, because red meat has been perceived as “unhealthy” for so many years, on average, people that eat more red meat are more likely to: (12)
Smoke
Be physically inactive
Eat fewer fruits and vegetables
Be less educated
Of course, most researchers are well aware of the influence of confounding factors and the healthy-user bias, and good ones do their best to control for as many of these factors as they can. But even in the best studies, researchers can’t control for all possible confounding factors because our lives are simply too complex. As Norman Breslow, a former biostatistician at the University of Washington, once said:
People think they may have been able to control for things that aren’t inherently controllable.
One of the inevitable results of the healthy-user bias is that many observational studies end up comparing two groups of people that are not at all similar, and this casts doubt on the findings.
For example, early studies suggested that vegetarians live longer than omnivores. However, these studies compared Seventh Day Adventists—a religious group that advocates a vegetarian diet and a healthy lifestyle as part of their belief system—with the general population.
That introduces serious potential for healthy-user bias because the members of the SDA church engage in lifestyle behaviors—like not smoking or drinking alcohol, eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, and getting more exercise—that have been shown to reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular disease and all causes. So, we can’t possibly know whether the reduction in deaths observed in these studies was related to the vegetarian diet or these other causes, and thus the findings are not generalizable to the wider population.
(As a side note, four later studies that compared vegetarians with a more health-conscious population of omnivores found that both groups lived longer than the general population, but there was no difference in lifespan between the vegetarians and healthy omnivores. You can read more about this in my article “Do Vegetarians and Vegans Really Live Longer than Meat Eaters?”)
The healthy-user bias plagues most observational nutrition studies, and yet we hardly ever hear it mentioned when these studies are reported in the media. Now that you know about it, how might you respond differently to some of the headlines I shared at the beginning of the article?
“Low-carb diets could shorten life, study suggests”
“Eating cheese and butter every day linked to living longer”
“Whole grains one of the most important food groups for preventing type 2 diabetes”
Would you ask questions like:
Since fat has been perceived as unhealthy and low-carb diets are high in fat, were the people eating low-carb diets also engaging in other behaviors perceived as unhealthy?
Were the people eating more cheese and butter doing anything else that might have contributed to a longer lifespan?
Were the people who were eating more whole grains exercising more or engaging in other behaviors perceived as healthy (since eating whole grains is perceived as healthy)?
The “Risks” Are Often Pure Chance
In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) issued a report suggesting that for every 50 grams of processed meat consumed, the relative risk of cancer was increased by 18 percent compared to those who ate the least processed meat. (13)
How confident can we be of that claim? In epidemiology outside the field of nutrition (and even within the nutrition field until recently), the threshold for confidence in relative risk is between 100 and 300 percent. In other words, we’d need to see an increase or decrease of risk of between 100 and 300 percent for a given intervention before we could be confident that the change observed was due to the intervention and not simply to chance.
According to the late epidemiologist Syd Shapiro, cofounder of the Slone Epidemiology Center, at the higher end of this range, one can be guardedly confident, but “we can hardly ever be confident about estimates of less than 100 percent, and when estimates are much below 100 percent, we are simply out of business.” (14)
Marcia Angell, the former editor of the New England Journal of Medicine, said much the same thing in a 1995 article in Science called “Epidemiology Faces Its Limits”:
As a general rule of thumb, we are looking for a relative risk of three or more [before accepting a paper for publication], particularly if it is biologically implausible or if it’s a brand-new finding.
And Robert Temple, who was the director of drug evaluation at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at the time, put it even more bluntly in the same Science article:
My basic rule is if the relative risk isn’t at least three or four, forget it.
Most epidemiologists that were interviewed for the Science article said they would not take seriously a single study reporting a new potential cause of cancer unless the increase in risk was at least three-fold.
This is bad news for observational nutrition studies since the vast majority of relative risks reported fall well below this threshold. Most are well below 100 percent, and many—like the IARC finding on processed meat and cancer—are below 25 percent.
To put this in perspective, the increased relative risk of lung cancer from smoking cigarettes is between 1,000 and 3,000 percent. The increased relative risk of liver cancer from eating grains contaminated with aflatoxin is 600 percent.
It’s also important to consider the difference between absolute and relative risk reduction. Researchers often use relative risk statistics to report the results of nutrition studies. For example, in the IARC report, they said that every 50 grams of processed meat consumed increased the risk of cancer by 18 percent. But when that increase in relative risk is stated in absolute terms, it doesn’t sound quite as impressive. The lifetime absolute risk of colon cancer in vegetarians is 4.5 out of 100; in people eating 50 grams of processed meat every day for a lifetime, the risk is 5.3 out of 100. (15)
All of this suggests that most findings in observational nutrition studies are indistinguishable from chance and are unlikely to be validated by RCTs (which is exactly what has happened in most cases, as I’ll explain shortly). Yet despite this, many of these studies are highly publicized in the media and often reported as if they conclusively discovered a causal relationship.
The current climate in both academia and the media, unfortunately, contributes to this. Null results—when researchers don’t find a positive or negative association—are significantly less likely to be published, and without publication, researchers are out of a job. (16, 17) And the pressure to get clicks and generate advertising revenue in the digital media world leads to splashy headlines that overstate or distort what the study actually found. One study found that 43 percent of front-page stories reporting on medical research are based on research with mostly preliminary findings (i.e., they were observational studies that didn’t prove causality). (18)
“The sin,” Dr. Sander Greenland, an epidemiologist at UCLA, has said, “comes from believing a causal hypothesis is true because your study came up with a positive result.” (19)
Sadly, this is more the rule than the exception today.
I hope this article has given you some reasons to remain skeptical about nutrition research. For more information on this topic, check out Part 2 of this article series—and let me know what you think in the comments below!

Ladies and Gentleman, my name is not @oggypart3, and I do not have the (greatest) Clap (in the business)...but I am @KingGazOfMadine (I am not Raymond Rowe) and I am here to bring you a round up of show Number 55.5 in #the80ShowYear (Andy's show number 55.5 by the way. I'm only on 34)
PROGRESS Chapter 52: Vote Pies was a show that was originally not on the Wrestling Schedule for us Manchester fans, so 4/5 of British Wrong Style (Andy / Geoff Ogden, Chris Linay and Ben Corrigan) along with top Pigeon Fan Shauna Askew made the decision to book tickets to go and see Tidal Wrestling, across the penines in Leeds (You can read Andy's review of that show right here, at Graps and Claps *cheap pop*) and therefore once the show was announced, had to miss the event. For me personally, I've never been to a Tidal show or watched any of their shows, and had made the decision to take a weekend off until the PROGRESS announcement, so I was all in for this event. Must admit, it was a bit odd to be at a show without the others. I think of all the shows I've been to this year, only ATTACK in Cardiff I've done without any combination of Andy / Geoff / Shauna / Chris / Ben
Now then, unlike Andy, I did not make an early start for this show to take in some fine ales beforehand. No, my decision was to stay at home and watch Day 5 of the 27th annual G1 tournament in New Japan (should point out here, Tesco had a cracking deal on 6 cans of Dr Pepper for £1.77 which I had picked up the day before, so my choice of drink for the G1 was Dr Pepper coming in at approximately 30p per can. We may be living in Tory Britain, but you can still find a bargain when you try), and then jump on the #GrapsBus at around 1pm for a show thats doors opened at 1.30pm. I arrived in town a little before 2pm and did have time to meet up with t-shirt designer to the stars and future wrestling superstar (HOWAY) Jimmy Nailz at the regular Wetherspoons on Oxford Road. £1.99 for a large Lemonade, and I was good to go and ready for the show, but not before conversations on whether soup should be classed as an actual meal or not, and apparently certain sectors of Mormons aren't allowed hot drinks. Not because of caffeine (which apparently some Mormons are not allowed) but just because of the temperature. So like, they can have a cup of coffee / tea but only after it's cooled down. Please don't take this as fact and quote me on this, but that was what I learned yesterday and have done 0 research into it's validity, but will pass it off as legit if ever needed.
On to the show. Before the regular Darth Vader / Drake intro, we were told over the microphone there would be one last song before this, which was a Linkin Park track, dedicated to Chester Bennington who had unfortunately passed away a few days prior to this. Following this, we got the regular Jim Smallman intro (Hiya - We Sold Out - It's Your Round - 7 matches, 4 in the first half, 3 in the second) but were then introduced to a fan that had apparently made a bet with Jim that the Manchester show wouldn't sell out as quick as usual (Odd bet to make?) and because Jim had lost (Who bets against their own team!?) said fan was allowed in the ring to have his photo taken with Jim (This is an odd bet to make. Just go and ask Jim for a photo before the show starts when he's walking around the ring. He's a nice chap and will more than likely say "Yes") at which point Jim asks said fans girlfriend to come into the ring to take the photo. Jim and fan prepare for photo, fans missus gets camera out...BUT WAIT...the fan is down on one knee and has pulled an engagement ring outta nowhere (Ok, that's why this all seemed so ridiculous...Jim didn't bet against his own company!!!) and he's asked his missus to marry him. She's in a wrestling ring, with 700 of us watching, she literally has no chance of saying No, and thus she says....YES!!!! Cheers aplenty, now get out of the ring and enjoy the first 3 hours of your engagement surrounded by people who want to call Zach Gibson a Scouse Bastard.
Should also note here that the ring looked a bit low, and as we were discussing this, it was pointed out that T-Bone was on the show, and this was in fact T-Bone's ring (more to this later). Plus, pint of Lemonade here at the venue was £3.50. Not sure what kind of Lemonade they have at The Ritz for it to cost an extra £1.51 over Wetherspoons Lemonade, but it didn't taste that much better. That's Tory Britain for you (Cheers Andy)
Now to the wrestling....or is it...? Turns out there are balloons in the ring, and some "Happy Birthday" signs up, and out first is El Ligero, with 2 birthday hats hanging from his horns. Turns out it's Dave Mastiff's birthday, and as he still doesn't have any entrance music (or at least not any that can be shown on the WWE Network, for just £9.99 a month), the Bastard comes out to 700 of us singing Happy Birthday (no trombone this time Andy, sorry about that). Out come their opponents for the night Extra Talent(ed) and the super over, merchandise machines #CCK We get the introductions out of the way, and then it turns out one of the Extra Talent(ed) lads has a birthday card for Mastiff. Jim reads it out as "Dear Dave, Happy Birthday, from Jeff Jarrett and everyone at ITV Wrestling" at which point Mastiff cleans house with German Suplexes aplenty, including German Suplexing Kid Lykos over the top rope into Chris Brookes and the Extra Talent(ed) lads. This 3 way Tag Match included a grand total of 0 tags, and was just all action from start to finish, but included a few botched moments including Lykos pulling down the top rope for one of the Extra Talent(ed) lads to go over, only for him to still fall out of the ring between the top and middle rope, and the same lad receiving the Brookes assisted Code-Breaker, and then not staying in place for Brookes to senton him...but Brookes did it anyway coz he's Chris fuckin Brookes and he can do what he wants. Talking of which, Chris Brookes hit a knee on one of the Extra Talent(ed) lads and a kick on the other, in totally seperate moments, and both of them made me think that Extra Talent(ed) maybe owe him money or something. The ending happened, not entirely sure what happened, but #CCK won, Roberts called for the bell and said he'd counted 3, the bell never came, Jim's mic was turned off so he couldn't announce the winners, and some people were trying to continue the match. Not sure what was supposed to happen, but #CCK got the win, and then Chris Brookes said they didn't want a win like that, and challenged Extra Talent(ed) to another match next week in Camden. Kid Lykos got the mic and was ready to tell them what he thought, but Brookes took the mic off him and told him to "Shut the fuck up Lykos"
Next up we had Mike Bird vs T-Bone in some big lads wrestling. Big Lads as in guys who actually weigh over the weight limit for the Atlas title and not David Starr or Fred Yehi. Talking of David Starr, question for you. If David Starr wins a match, and neither me or Andy sees this match, did David Starr still win a match? For me, it's a no, and old Canvasback Dave remains winless. Anyway, Bird and Bone started off quite tasty with them getting in each others face during the intros, and then a bit of pushing and shoving until T-Bone gave Bird a lovely looking headbutt. This was standard 2 big lads beating each other up, but the crowd was a bit quiet for it. Most local fans obviously know T-Bone from the likes of FutureShock, PCW and GPW and were getting behind him, and there was the odd Ginger Jesus chant too, but I don't know if it was the awkward finish of the last match, but the crowd weren't too into this one. I even tried to get an Ogden special clap going but that died on it's arse. T-Bone ended up the victor, and personally, I'm hoping we get a T-Bone vs Walter match for the Atlas title at some point. T-Bone did only lose 1 match during the Atlas Division series, and that just happened to be a Semi-Final match unfortunately.
Toni Storm was up next defending the PROGRESS Womens title against Laura Di Matteo. Again, this seemed to start with quite a flat crowd, but we were treated to a decent match that finally woke the crowd up and got everyone going. There was quite some chanting on behalf of Laura Di Matteo, which is quite surprising really. One, becuase Toni Storm is absolutely ace, and two, because Laura Di Matteo is obviosuly very talented in the ring, but post-Jinny feud (is that feud actually over?) there really isn't anything there with Laura Di Matteo to care about, other than the fact she's one of the ones who come up from the ProJo. She just doesn't seem to connect, and I'd happily listen to any of her fans to tell me what it is that makes them get behind her. Cracking match though between these 2, and Toni got the win following her Piledriver she's been using lately. Laura was visibly in tears outside the ring afterwards, not sure if that's gonna set up a storyline or something with her?
Onto the first half Main Event, which was 2 blokes I've heard of vaguely recently. Travis Banks vs Matthew Riddle. 2 of the absolute best right now, and these 2 did not disappoint. Riddle came out first, cool as fuck as always, and then Trav came out second and he was ready to scrap, getting right in Riddles face before the intros had even begun. These 2 chopped, kicked and suplexed each other like there was no tomorrow. Thought Riddle would still be recovering his chest after what Walter did to him in Birmingham, but nope, there were chops a plenty. I can imagine these 2 having a much better match than the one they put on here, but this was still a really good match and one to look out for on Demand. At one point it was like watching Kane vs Undertaker at Wrestlemania, when Matt Riddle kicked out of a "Tombstone" at 1, grabbed Travis, hit him with a jumping "Tombstone" at which point Trav kicked out at 2. Had to point out here that moves where you get dropped on your head are a lot less effective in 2017 than moves where you have to slap your knee for effect. However, neither Travs or Riddles tombstones actually drop the opponent on their head, therefore making them even less effective. Finish to this match came when Pete Dunne made an appearance on the rampway to distract Trav, and Riddle managed to hit Banks with a jumping knee when he returned his focus to the match, but was at this point out for the count.
Half time break, and due to arriving at the venue late, this was the perfect time to pick up that sweet new #CCK merch. Turns out I could now go 6 of the 7 days of the week wearing a different #CCK / Chris Brookes t-shirt. #CCK literally becoming the UK Young Bucks.
Second half of the show brought us a 4 way match between No Fun Chief Deputy Dunne, Scouse Bastard Zach Gibson, Ben's Favourite Chuck Mambo and Shauna's Number 1 Heel Jack Sexsmith. Match started with introductions for Sexsmith and Mambo, only for Chief Deputy Dunne to take over microphone duties and inform us that as long as we don't have fun, we won't get hurt. Gibson took the microphone from Dunne here though, and did his usual schtick, ending with how he is the Premier Wrestling talent in England, and he's in a match with a surfer, a policeman and an absolute joke. This was a fun 4 way, nothing to really shout about, but still enjoyable. Sexsmith picked up the win with a cheekly roll up on Gibson, meaning Sexsmith has beaten Gibson here and at Super Strong Style now.
Next up was PROGRESS Champion Pete Dunne going against Eddie Dennis, who has got himself some new shorts to go with his full time schedule. I liked them personally. As for the match, this was an absolute cracker of a match. The longer it went on, the better it got, and I started to get the impression that maybe Pete Dunne would lose via DQ, therefore having to defend his title agsinst Eddie in a second match. Unfortunately, it did not go this way. Eddie had Pete Dunne pinned for the 3 count following the NEXT STOP DRIVER!!!!! but unfortunately Joel was down at this point and did not make the count. Peter rolled out the ring, and as Eddie followed him got blasted by Peter's Sledgehammer (I thought these were only kept under WWE rings...?) rolled back into the ring, Pedigree and then The Bitter End, for Peter to pick up the win. Talking point here though was Eddie Dennis looking absolutely phenomenal. He's always been good when I've seen him, but having recently gone full time, he's got a lot more serious and looks a lot better for it.
Main Event time gave us British Strong Styles Tyler Bate and Trent Seven defending their PROGRESS Tag Team titles against current IWGP Heavyweight Tag Champions, War Machine (I am in no way related to Raymond Rowe by the way). Following the introductions, Jim declared that he was making this match a Tornado Tag Rules match. If you've never seen War Machine wrestle in PROGRESS before, then you were in for a treat without knowing it, however if you have seen War Machine in PROGRESS before, then you knew this was gonna be awesome...and it was. Match started with War Machine offering the code of honor handshake, BSS doing the Triple H, but turning and spitting it in War Machines eyes and then mockingly shaking their opponents hands, only for War Machine to hold on, and beat the piss out of the 2 of them. This match was everything you'd expect from a War Machine match. Don't think it was as good as the London Riots match from Birmingham a few weeks ago, but still a cracker and up there as Match of the Night for this show. They wrecked the joint throwing their opponents into the ringside chairs, along with being thrown themselves. At one point Tyler Bate and Ray Rowe were wrestling in the crowd right next to us. Tyler hit Rowe, and then proceded to do his best Karate stance and declared himself Bruce Lee. If you want to see the video of this, look up Ian Crompton on Twitter (@iancrompton89) and ask him to share his video. Also, Tyler Bate managed to squat Hanson. Like that shouldn't even be a surprise anymore that Tyler is freakishly strong, but it still is amazing. Now then, earlier I mentioned how the ring in use was T-Bones ring. During this match, I noticed T-Bone up on the balcony watching the match. However, what I also noticed was that when Trent and Tyler did a double Superplex from the top rope to Hanson, Chris Brooker was up there too, putting a hand on T-Bone's shoulder as if to say "It's ok. You're ring survived it. It's going to live another day". BSS got the win in this match, when Trent hit the pedigree on to Hanson (I think) on top of the IWGP tag title. War Machine gave a post match speech about being disappointed they weren't raising the PROGRESS Tag Titles, and how they've wrestled everywhere but we are the craziest fans they've ever known. Standard really.
Post-Show, it was fuckin pissing down and I'd only gone and decided today was a good day to come in just shorts and t-shirt. Headed back over to Wetherspoons with Jimmy Nailz and Dave Hackney (JHFC represent!) to grab some food (Chilli Dog and Lemonade for £6.99, but could also go for an alcoholic beverage instead for £7.99 if that's what you prefer) and talk about the show. As we were finishing up, Matt Riddle casually strolls into Wetherspoons, cool as fuck (as always) and with around 50% of the Wetherspoons audience having all just come from the show, suddenly Wetherspoons broke into "BRO! BRO! BRO!" chants, with Matt Riddle looking absolutely happy as larry, looking around and smiling at everyone, and other customers just not having a clue what was going on. Following this, it was home time on the 38 bus back to Little Hulton, and was back home for 9pm
Apologies that there's no puns in this one. I'm not on Andy's level for this. But I would like to finish by saying it was really nice to go to a wrestling show to see good friends and also some wrestling, without a fuckin toy pigeon in sight.

The Basic Keto Diet
Let me start by saying I am not a doctor and nor do I have any kind of degree that makes me a professional. I started Keto on Wednesday September 13, 2017 and within 10 days I lost 14lbs. I read articles and watched videos about the Keto Diet for 2 months before I decided to try it myself. Remember you need to do what works for you. If you don’t agree or do not like something simply try something different. I started my diet with a 24 hour fast. THIS IS NOT NECESSARY. I decided that the best way to start start MY diet. Here was the thought about doing the fast. I wanted to deplete as much sugar deposits in my body as possible before I had my first meal. I wanted my first meal to be within the boundaries of the the Keto Diet. The last 3 to 4 hours was tough but mostly was not that hard since 8 hours of it were sleeping and 3 hours of it were after I ate.
FASTING
Lets talk about fasting. There are so many right and wrong answers. To ME I believe anything after 12 hours could technically be considered fasting. If I’m not fasting for at least 15 hours I do not call it fasting. Fasting is a good way to stay in Ketosis but is not necessary by any means. If I was to do a 15 hour fast I would eat dinner at 6pm or 7pm and not eat again until 9am or 10am. This is super easy to do. While fasting I allow myself coffee (black) nothing added and water. Doesn’t really matter the amount. I would say I wouldn’t drink more than 3 coffees during the fast but you could do more. Drink one water bottle or at least 8 ounces of water for each cup of coffee you drink. I personally would drink two water bottles between each cup of coffee. Here are some reasons I would fast:
If I ate a meal that had a lot of protein in one setting.
If I ate food I probably shouldn’t eat, like potatoes, rice, or bread.
If I feel like I am not losing weight and am at a stand still.
If I had any kind of alcohol.
If I ate a lot of food in one setting in general.
Again FASTING IS NOT NECESSARY but is not a terrible idea.
STARTING OUT THE DIET
The first thing you need to do is buy the foods that you will eat on the diet. Do not rely on the things you already have. Buy Ketone testing strips at Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, or Amazon. Buy either chicken broth or bullion cubes. It would not hurt to buy Potassium Citrate (Yes the Citrate part is important) and Magnesium in the vitamin section at Walmart or wherever you buy your groceries. These are usually cheap considering it will last more than a month. Last but not least, a food scale. Walmart has food scales as well as most your major scales. If I did it again I would have bought a Microgram scale that also weighed grams. So if you are a cocain dealer you might already have one lolz. I bought a bought both because I decided after I bought the food scale I wanted raw “supplements” instead of buying something in a bottle. I’m a nerd sorry not sorry. I will link as many things as I can at the very end.
SOME OF THE FACTS
Keto is a high fat diet. Your protein is at a moderate level. Carbs and sugar are the devil, “cough” I mean you will eat low carb and avoid sugar. The typical daily diet is 70% Fat 20% Protein 10% Carbs. Mine usually ends up being 75% Fat or a little higher 18ish% Protein and 5ish% Carbs. Shoot for 70% Fat or a little more. Since you are avoiding certain foods your electrolytes will be a little off. Magnesium, Potassium, and Sodium are the three electrolytes in reference. If your electrolytes are off you are gonna feel like absolute crap. A way to quickly fix this is drink Chicken Broth or a Bouillon Cube dissolved in warm warm or……. take Magnesium and Potassium together (this is what I do). I salt the crap out of my food so I know my Sodium is good. Your body will change from using Sugar as a fuel source to using Ketones. This is called Ketosis. Your goal with this diet is to stay in Ketosis. There will be a time during this transition that will most likely not be pleasant. It is referred to the Keto Flu. I will share a link at the end if you want more in depth info.
KETO FLU
Google it! So many different opinions. Here is what I experienced. First of all remember I fasted so that was a little weird to begin with since I have never fasted in my life before. Made me almost feel high the last four hours. Like my mental clarity was super foggy and I was a little tired. So after I broke the fast and had my first “Keto Meal” (6oz Ribeye and a serving of steamed Broccoli). I went to sleep and woke up feeling a little strange. I drank Keto Coffee (I’ll explain later) in the morning and ate Eggs and Bacon a few hours later. The entire day I didn’t feel good and was very tired. Later in the day my body was achy. So technically “Flu like symptoms” without the puking or crapping my pants lol. I never had a sick feeling. Just know that this is something that will pass and everyone deals with it differently.
DO NOT EAT
This is most likely the best information I can give about your diet. Do not eat the items listed below.
Sugar or anything with sugar in it.
Bread (I know I cried a little too).
Grains. ( Rice, Pasta, Cereal)
Beans
Fruit
Juices, Soda, Gatorade.
Gum (This was hard for me).
WHAT TO EAT
Don’t worry this is not an expensive diet. I spent around $130 in groceries and it will most likely last three weeks. Keep in mind thats all meals per day times 7 days. If your breakfast, lunch, and dinner were $5 dollars a piece times 7 days that would come out to be $105 per week. You will not need to buy fancy food or cook different food for your family. If you cook something for dinner that is not allowed in your diet for your family (mashed potatoes or mac and cheese) just don’t eat any.
Meats:
Basically any steak will work. Ribeye is the fattiest out of all steaks. Check this pic out http://i.imgur.com/hXLH5qB.jpg.
Hamburger meat. Get 80/20 or a higher fat content.
Chicken legs, thighs, and wings. Try to stay away from Chicken Breast because its a lot leaner and high in protein.
Fish like Salmon are high in fat. Tilapia and Tuna tend to be more lean. Eat in moderation.
Bacon a Keto Staple.
Pork Ribs or Beef Ribs. Pork Chops and Pork Tenderloin are a lot leaner and high in protein.
Pork or Beef Sausage. Be mindful of the Label and what in it.
Breakfast Sausage or Links. Again be mindful of the type. Sugar is our enemy.
Eggs
Shrimp. In moderation.
Pepperoni. High in calories!
Deli Meats. This is a touchy subject but can be a good snack.
Beef Jerky. Another good snack but don’t over do it.
Turkey honestly should be avoided because its low in fat and high in protein.
Vegetables:
Avocados are another staple in Keto.
Spinach
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Kale
Asparagus
Collard Greens
Lettuce
Mushrooms
Cucumber
Zuchinni
Peppers Jalapeño, Green Bell (say no to red and yellow), Chili
Tomatoes
Radish
Celery
Pickles
Nuts:
Pecans
Brazil
Macadamia
Walnuts
Hazelnuts
Almonds
Peanuts (Be careful with this one. Its a legume (Bean) not a nut.
Pistachios
Cashews are an iffy they are a bit high in Carbs.
Dairy:
Cottage Cheese
Heavy Cream
Butter. Get Kerrygould brand. Its a Keto thing :)
Ghee
Cream Cheese
Sour Cream
Basically any kind of Cheese. (String, slice, stick, shredded)
Oils
Coconut
Avocado
Olive
MCT
FINAL THE INFO YOU ACTUALLY WANT
LETS DO 14 DAYS WITHOUT CHEATING
Wether you start with a 24 hour fast or not lets make sure you’re ready for 14 days of trusting the diet. The first couple days or so are gonna suck. From my experience my appetite suppression started almost immediately. This means you won’t eat as much as you currently do. The first thing you need to do is download My Fitness Pal. You may add me [email protected]. Next figure out your Macros (Fat,Protein,Carbs per day). Remember to subtract Fiber from the Carb count :). Here is a basic break down.
For a Male 1800 or less Calories, 140-150g Fat, 85-95g Protein, and 10-20g Carbs.
For a Female: 1600 or less Calories, 120-130g Fat, 55-65g Protein, and 10-20g Carbs.
You can go to https://www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/ to get a little more accurate reading of your Macros. You can always keep your calories lower. Your daily percent is the most important thing to remember. Make sure your Fat is at least 70% of your daily diet and the rest should fall into place.
So now that you have your basic tools now its time to meal plan. Here is my basic day of eating. But before here is my Keto Coffee Recipe.
KETO COFFEE
Some people drink what is called Bullet Proof Coffee. You can Google it and find lots of different things. Here’s what I do. I make 8 ounces of any brand of coffee. I add 1 table spoon of Coconut oil, 1 table spoon of MCT oil, and 1 table spoon of Heavy Whipping Cream. However, I do change it up sometimes like use 1 table spoon of Kerrygold butter or use different amounts of oils or heavy whipping cream. The basic idea is to use 3 table spoons of some kind of fats. This morning I had 2 table spoons of Heavy Whipping Cream and 1 table spoon of Coconut oil.
DAY OF EATING
6:30am Keto Coffee
10-11am 2 Eggs fried in Bacon Grease. 2-3 slices of Bacon or Sausage. Every other day I eat 1/4-1/2 of an Avocado.
1-4pm Cheese of some sort. Small amount of nuts
5-7pm 4-6 ounces of meat. 1/2 to 1 cup of vegetables.
I only eat when I am hungry. One of the benefits of Keto is appetite suppression. During the week I work out at lunch so I tend to eat shortly before I go to the gym. After I get back I usually eat a cheese stick and some nuts. I kinda still believe in getting some protein in after a weight training session.
OFF THE CUFF INFORMATION
So there are a few YouTube creators that are very knowable about the Ketogenic Diet and how it affects our bodies. Recently I listen to a gentleman named Mike talk about supplements. He is doing quite a few studies on supplements and Keto. However, he was talking about Selenium. This is a very important mineral and we need a little bit of it in our bodies. The best sources of this mineral are: Brazil Nuts, Yellowfin Tuna, Sardines, Grass fed beef, Chicken, Eggs, and Spinach. Most of us need around 40-60mcg per day. Two eggs have roughly 30mcg. My advice is to eat 1 Brazil Nut a day.
Remember those Ketone test strips? These are a lot like a pregnancy test. They test for Ketones in your urine. They are inaccurate in a since. The reason is they test the unused Ketones in our body. If you just did a very intense workout the reading of Ketones will be off because you used a whole bunch during your workout. The basic goal is to see any shade of Red or Purple. It will give you peace of mind knowing you are in Ketosis. There are other testing methods that are more accurate at testing for Ketosis. The two I have seen are Blood Test and Breath Test. The Breath Test simple test the Acetone in the bottom of your lunges. The Blood Test is arguably the most accurate for self testing, by that I mean not going to the doctor. It works like a Diabetic Test. You put your blood on little strips and it tells your your Blood Sugar. You can also buy strips to test your Ketone Level. This test is expensive and I do not recommend purchasing the device and strips. However, if you do use them sparingly. The “pee test” is inexpensive and easy to do. You pee on the test stick and wait 15 seconds, the bottle with have markings on it. Let me remind you though, as long as its any shade of red or purple you are good!
Last thing off the top of my head before I drop links, DRINK WATER!!!!!! You honestly need this more than anything. Be mindful to drink at least 6 ounces every hours. I drink 1 bottle 16ish ounces every hour I am awake.
GOOD LUCK! IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS JUST ASK!

What does Mo Farah multi olympic gold winner,
President Obama
and the Renowned US National Library of Medicine have in common?
There is no call a friend and they won’t know I PROMISE:)
They all take or recommend ingredients you can find in the supplements below.
If you need an energy boost you will not go wrong using the ingredient Mo Farah uses! Olympic great and long distance legend Mo gets up at about 7am, has some toast with butter and nutella. Soon after he will do his morning run of around 10-12 miles (16-19 km) then he will go the gym for core work. After a quick snooze MO runs five miles [8K] at lunch time.
Most of us would need weeks to do this and months to recover.
However as reported in the in the guardian some athletes have questioned if Mo Farah is cheating by using the amino acid L-carnitine to boost his performances. The Amazing Legal ingredient is used by many endurance athletes and the secret is out for you. This ingredient is included in the no.2. ranked supplement below.
The former president Obama has the best medical advice in the world, do you remember a time he was ill? in fact he is known as probably the healthiest president in history!
What is his secret?
Well every morning he religiously drinks green tea.

In Depth Best Diet Pills for Certain Medical Conditions and F.A.Q.
Effective Appetite Suppressants to Stop Your Food Cravings.
Are you tired of giving yourself empty promises? Are you tired of being humiliated and feeling like an addict each time succumbing to a craving? Do you blame your lack of will for your failures? No need to.
Quite often simple things can have a dramatic effect on your food cravings like a lack of sleep which can lead to stress and comfort eating or eating at the wrong time, most notably in the evening.
“……Sleep has also been shown to influence how the body uses insulin and processes glucose. In Penev’s study of middle-aged adults with self-determined consumption of meals and snacks, at the end of the sleep-deprived periods the participants showed increased insulin resistance and decreased glucose tolerance,Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism…….” National Library of Medicine.
The first step towards reducing cravings is to get a good night’s sleep
Simple I know but it is probably the single most important thing to effect weight that many overlook. In one study conducted at the University of Colorado participants who had just 5 hours sleep per night recorded a weight gain of 2lbs per week.
This is due to sleep deprivation meddling with hormones leptin and ghrelin, these are very important to you.
So listen up, did you know Leptin reduces your appetite and encourages energy expenditure. On the other hand ghrelin is responsible for your feelings of hunger.
“……Many epidemiologic and experimental studies link short or disrupted sleep to elements of one of the major health problems linked to obesity: metabolic syndrome, which includes a variety of symptoms that can lead to heart disease, stroke, or diabetes, including high triglycerides and cholesterol, hypertension, insulin resistance, and glucose intolerance……” National Library of Medicine.
If you do suffer sleep problems I suggest Phen24. This is a general health supplement which includes both day and night slimming agents. It will brighten your mood, help regulate your leptin levels and give you lots of energy for your daily tasks.
Just a bit of advice if you feel like raiding the fridge in the evening for a snack opt for high protein bar which will make you feel or consider yoghurt, apricots, prunes or raisins.
What Are The Best Slimming Pills For an Energy Boost?
“…Exercise? Dam I dont have the energy to lift a toothpick let alone go to the gym. Exercise?.. its swear word! I might manage leaning over to grab the remote of the table but don’t ask me to get up after work! My default mode after work is the cabbage state…..”
This was the rather amusing retort I got from one client a Lady in her 30’s hiding a wonderful figure!
Here the problem was in fact very simple she didn’t need to diet but to simply organise her day to eat real food opposed to chocolate snacks and coffee.
The lack of organization in her life meant when she got tired she needed an energy boost and the first thing at hand was often coffee and sweet food.
The problem with sugar stimulants is the energy is short lived and the energy crash is steep which leads to a vicious cycle.
So first rule is to organise your day with real food do not pump yourself with quick energy boosters and drink enough water.
Dehydration slows down your metabolism, which will increase the fat you store
A supplement which can balance your energy levels and boost your metabolism is Phen-Q (Find this below) it has a key ingredient called Nopal extract that will give you a healthy non sugar energy boost and curbs your appetite. It also has an ingredient used by athletes I tell you more about this in moment. But first it is wise to know,,,,,,
How Much Weight Do You Need to Lose?
Before you even think about losing weight you must take this first step to find your ideal weight. (Uses all the scientific formulas to give you an average ideal weight)
Go here to use the ideal weight calculator (opens in a new window will only take a moment)
How much weight you need to lose (if any) depends on your Body Mass Index according to most experts in the past.
But there are numerous examples of well proportioned people with a high BMI. For this reason we developed the ideal weight calculator this gives you an average ideal weight using all the scientific formulas. We also give you the standard BMI calculation.
Obesity is frequently subdivided into categories:
Class 1: BMI of 30 to < 35
Class 2: BMI of 35 to < 40
Class 3: BMI of 40 or higher. Class 3 obesity is sometimes categorized as “extreme” or “severe” obesity… www.cdc.gov
Over The Counter Weight Loss Pills V Prescription Diet Pills?
Non prescription diet supplements aren’t even considered drugs by FDA. This means over the counter diet pills contain natural ingredients considered to be safe for consumption unless they appear on the FDA tainted weight loss products list.
This is not to say all non prescription weight loss supplements won’t give you side effects. Many do give you side effects like heart palpitations, anxiety and acid reflux etc. So In this list I have included the supplements with the best safety profile.
youtube
In my experience anecdotal customer feedback does not suggest prescription drugs are any more effective than non prescription drugs. In most cases they are also a lot more expensive especially in the United States. One example is a prescription supplement called ALLi which is a 60-milligram over-the-counter version of orlistat (Xenical), a 120-milligram prescription drug. Effectively ALLi is a government approved prescription weight loss drug but it does not receive a greater number of positive customer reviews. Which gives us a clue that prescription does not necessarily imply better.
Best Diet Pills That Work Fast Without Exercise
Have you suffered from a trip or fall or are you unable to be active? In the top 3 list I have selected slimming pills which are suitable for you especially if you need to lose weight quickly.
Considered by some to be the most brutal quick weight loss supplement in the world (You cannot get it on Amazon it is a premium supplement).
There have been reports of weight loss of up to 14lbs in a month.
But losing this amount of weight in 1 month could be unhealthy for some.
The top rated weight loss pills I feature below are becoming a popular alternative to gastric band surgery and a favorite of performance athletes.
“….three studies in the literature showing beneficial effects of L-carnitine on performance of athletes….”
“….it is clear that L-carnitine plays an important role on recovery from strenuous exercise……”
Mo Farah received some complaints because it is said he used L-Carnitine and got an unfair advantage but it is perfectly safe and legal! Read the full story here.
by Scientific & Academic Publishing
This supplement is so effective because it is an all-in-one pill. Its function encompasses everything from boosting metabolism to antioxidation. Moreover, they even give you a 60-days money back guarantee so you really have nothing to lose ,,,well except fat that is!. Find it in the top 3 listed supplements below.
Diet Pill Ingredients to avoid if you are Diabetic
If you suffer from diabetes, consult with your doctor before taking any supplements.
Some of them may contain ingredients dangerous for you to take.
Outright dangerous ingredients include cayenne pepper/capsaicin. On the more ambiguous side are caffeine (~200mg may alter blood sugar level).
Garcinia cambogia (lowers blood sugar levels, which is seemingly useful, but combined with diabetes medication can make your blood sugar level dangerously low).
“…….Some evidence has emerged to suggest that apple cider vinegar may have particular benefits for the management of diabetes……” source ….www.medicalnewstoday.com By the way Apple Cider Vinegar is one of the best selling well being supplements and slimming ingredients in the world. It is included in one of the top 3 weight loss pills below and further enhanced with other special ingredients. (By the way the supplement we feature is not available on Amazon top athletes and nutrition experts do not go to such places)
Ingredients like green coffee extract or green tea extract may actually help diabetes. But still, you should consult your doctor on dosages and diabetes medication interactions.
Below in the selected supplements you will find diet pills that contain green tea, raspberry ketones and apple cider vinegar which I specifically selected for diabetes sufferers.
Best Diet Pills For Women After Childbirth and Pregnancy?
You should aim for gradual weight loss within 6 months.
Light physical exercise doesn’t hurt as long as you don’t overstress yourself.
If you are a new mother Kathleen Rasmussen, a professor of maternal and child nutrition at Cornell University explains you will retain on average, 2.5 to 5 lbs. (1 to 2 kg)livescience.com
As for slimming pills, there is a number of ingredients to avoid. Those are: ephedra, that can give you a heart attack (luckily, none of the ingredients on our list utilise it), conjugated linoleic acid, which increases risk of diabetes and gallstones, guar gum, which can cause blockages in the intestines and esophagus, tiratricol and chitosan.
Here are your calorie requirements after child birth
If You’re Breastfeeding:
Calories: 2,200–2,400 Calcium: 1,000–1,300 mg Folate: 280 mcg Iron: 15 mg Protein: 65 g Vitamin C: 95 mg
If You’re Not Breastfeeding:
Calories: 1,900–2,200 Calcium: 1,300 mg Folate: 180 mcg Iron: 15 mg Protein: 44–50 g Vitamin C: 60 mg

Natural Herb Diet Pills and Fat Burners that work?
In a search for a safe diet supplement, you might be turned to natural, botanical diet pills.
They are plant based so must be natural and healthy!
HANG ON ONE MOMENT ! not everything is so clear-cut.
For instance, Meizitang botanical pills have acquired some suspicious reputation recently. And rightfully so: US Food and Drugs administration warned consumers that they contain the regulated ingredient Fluoxetine also, Australian department of health has found an undeclared element – diclofenac.
I have made sure no harmful weight loss pills are on this list for your safety! Moving on, there are multiple herbal supplements sold under different brands: Job’s tears, Psyllium husk, bamboo shoots, lotus leaf etc.
It is advisable to stick to the such supplements, made solely from plants without any artificial additives or concealed ingredients.
My recommendation to you if you would like a herbal natural plant supplement is Keto by Vita because it is made by an american company and the supplement is cleared as safe by the FDA (Keto Vita is sold in the USA and Europe see more below)
Traditional Chinese Food Cure (treatment of disease through diet)(Opens in a new browser tab)
The Best Slimming Supplements if You Suffer High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
If you have high blood pressure, you should avoid stimulant-based supplements.
Apart from stimulants like caffeine, the following ingredients might elevate your blood pressure: ephedra, St. John’s wort, yohimbine, Guarana, Arnica, Ginseng, Licorice.
Some are more ambiguous: raspberry ketones, for instance may potentially elevate your blood pressure but it is considered safe by the FDA.
On the other hand ingredients that might actually lower your blood pressure: cayenne pepper, apple cider vinegar.
Note, that over-the counter diet pills, although considered safe by the FDA, often contain some of the dangerous ingredients listed above, so you should be careful if you have hypertension. If you suffer from a medical condition it is best to consult with a specialist before using any slimming pills.
High Blood Pressure(Opens in a new browser tab)
Are there Effective Weight Loss Pills if You Suffer From Hyperlipidaemia?
If you happen to have hyperlipidaemia due to diabetes, we encourage you to read the respective section.
Otherwise, perhaps you just want to lower your cholesterol levels.
If this is the case there are several ingredients that can aid high cholesterol.
Apple cider vinegar, among other benefits, lowers cholesterol levels and promotes heart health.
Green tea extract can aid high cholesterol as well.
Niacin has strong evidence of lowering cholesterol, albeit in high doses.
Raspberry ketones is also considered helpful to lower cholesterol.
Milder effects are observed with chromium and calcium.
The best option for you if you do suffer from high cholesterol is Keto diet pills by Vita. I tell you more about these below.
The Best Weight Loss Pills if You Suffer Sleep Apnoea
Sleep apnoea is strongly linked to excess body fat as I explained earlier.
Getting decent nights sleep is the single most important thing you can start doing now to lose weight and feel more positive.
Interestingly, the condition can also contribute to weight gain: sleep apnoea can make you feel tired and sleepy during the day, which, in turn, can mess with your hormones leptin and adiponectin, leading to weight gain and excessive food consumption.
To break this vicious circle you might like the assistance of weight loss pills called Phen24 (See Below). It is a supplement that has helped many people burn on average 9-14lbs per month. Phen24 is one of only one of few weight loss supplements in the world to offer night and day formulas.
Phen24 also acts as an appetite suppressant making you feel fuller so you do not feel like eating.
Many report feeling more cheerful because phen24 gently increases the feel good hormone serotonin.
Other Diet Pills Guaranteed to be Popular in 2020
Aerobic Life Mag O7
Weight loss has a lot to do with nutrition and the process of digestion. But what if the very digestive system is broken? (Or, rather, littered?) The role of microbiome in your digestive tract is often overlooked . And very unjustly so, because those tiny organisms have influence over a lot of things from digestion to your mood. Mag O7 helps those little folks do their job by releasing ozonated magnesium and potassium. If you need to cleanse your digestive system, this supplement is for you.
Possible side effects Aerobic Mag O7: Nausea, bloating, heartburn, headaches.
Ingredients Aerobic Mag O7: Elemental Magnesium, elemental Potassium.

Sweating blood on a treadmill is not everyone’s idea of fun!

Because the supplement will make you feel rewarded for the hard work you’ve done, This contains a dopamine precursor. Plus, it triggers your metabolism, allowing you to burn much more calories than you would regularly. Oh, just one more thing it’s quite tasty!
This has many stimulants so beware of the side effect mentioned below.

Skinny gal
What makes this supplement different according to the manufacturer is it is designed specifically for women by women.
It is rather amusing promotion tactic but the ingredients are common across a range of supplements.
Its function includes thermogenic promotion of metabolism. Thus, it is possible you will burn more calories, getting rid of that stubborn fat and stay motivated for your workout.
On a less positive note, however, The ingredients contain a lower dosage then is recommended.

Premium women’s fat burner by Nobi
Nobi makes a number of claims about this product: ketosis support, help with managing appetite, energy increase, fitness & performance boost, weight loss support, help with burning fat, slimming down and toning up. But it contains BHB as the main ingredient and BHB only works if you are already in a state of dietary ketosis. If your not in ketosis BHB can make you put on weight because your body will store the carbs in your body as fat and use the bhb as energy which you do not want! Basically, Nobi’s product is just a branded version of (goBHB) which is used by many other diet pills especially Keto Pills. The official goBHB website lists only lists three benefits mentioned by Nobi: energy support, appetite control and promoting cognitive health.
Possible side effects Nobi: officially stated: none; but we found: upset stomach, nausea, lightheadedness, yellow skin, hunger and weight gain.
Ingredients Nobi: GoBHB(calcium beta-hydroxybutyrate, sodium beta-hydroxybutyrate, magnesium beta hydroxybutyrate).
Meizitang Botanical slimming pills
These are on the FDA tainted diet supplement warning list. These are BANNED.
Meizitang relies on traditional Asian medicine in making the diet pills. Apart from weight loss, Meizitang promises to promote appetite control, Relieve constipation, improve eye health, relieve symptoms of headaches, calm nausea. However, none of the ingredients’ alleged effects seem to have enough scientific evidence.
Moreover, FDA warned against Meizitang because of the pills containing sibutramine, a controlled substance that had been removed from the market.
Curiously, Meizitang is surrounded by numerous impostors, hence the warnings on the official website.
Possible side effects Meizitang: Bowel problems, weakness in muscles, loss of electrolytes, gastrointestinal issues, stomach problems, diarrhoea.
Ingredients Meizitang: Cassia seed extract (10%), ZiSu extract (25%), Medical Amylum (35%), Oriental Water Plantain (13%), Fuling Extract (17%), Lotus, Job’s tears, Tarragon, Psyllium.
Phen375
Very few supplements take such care to guide you along your weight loss journey, as this supplement does.
The formula it utilises(comprised of FDA approved ingredients), has a multidimensional action: it gives you the energy to do the exercise, it curbs your appetite, it boosts your metabolism and it helps your body metabolise the fat tissue into muscle. And it does so with a blueprint of weight loss in mind.
The most pernicious and treacherous obstacle on your way to that elusive ideal body is a plateau phase: when you rapidly drop a lot of weight, your body will enter a defence mode, thereby leaving you with stubborn fat, so spitefully resistant to any exercise or diet.
By tweaking your metabolism in right places, Phen375 will enable you to get out of that trap. Even more, it offers its customers access to a video exercise programme. Which might be helpful for those who can’t afford pricey gym subscription or a personal trainer.
Possible side effects Phen375: Restlessness, irritability, sleeplessness, nervousness, increased heart rate.
Ingredients Phen375: l-caritine, caffeine powder anhydrous, Coleus forskohlii root PE(10% froskolin), citrus aurantium, cayenne pepper, Dendrodium nobile extract(from orchids).
Forskolin
An extract from the roots of an Indian herb Coleus Forskohlii, has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, recently has drawn a scientific interest for its health benefits. It has been discovered to suppress appetite, improve metabolism and help indigestion. You might be excited by this completely natural medication which can help you lose weight, but be warned: little studies have been conducted on humans and the results are somewhat inconclusive.
Possible side effects Forskolin: flushing and reduction in blood pressure, restlessness, breathlessness, and irritation in the airways, headache, stinging pain the eyes and bloodshot eyes.
Raspberry Ketones.
Raspberry ketones are the compounds that give raspberries their flavour. Apart from food industry, they’re also used to aid weight loss.
The way they are supposed to work is by stimulating the hormone adiponectin, which helps to break down fatty acids. Experiments on mice have been conducted, indicating a weight loss of 10%.
Raspberry ketones have proven to be a useful diet supplement and have been utilised by various diet pill brands.
Possible side effects: unknown; generally recognised safe by the FDA.
Lean pm night time fat burner
Lean PM by Jacked Factory is a stimulant-free diet supplement. Meaning that you don’t have to worry about any stimulant-induced side-effects like caffeine jitteriness. The only problem is it does not work according to many customers. Ingredients include vitamin B and magnesium which are used to fight fatigue. Aside from that, the supplement has a benefit of boosting your metabolism.
Possible side effects Lean-PM: caffeine-related.
Ingredients Lean-PM: Vitamin B6(as Pyridoxine HCI) – 10mg, 500% DV, magnesium(as Magnesium Citrate) – 150mg, 38% DV, epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG) – 300mg, l-theanine – 200mg, 5-HTP(from Griffonia simplicifolia seed extract) – 150mg, melatonin – 5mg, Bioperine® black pepper fruit extract 5mg.
Garcinia
Garcinia cambogia is a citrus native to Indonesia. I is used per se or a an ingredient in various slimming pills. It works due to its main compound, Hydrocitric acid, blocking lyase, an enzyme responsible for fat production. Garcinia is also believed to improve serotonin levels. Thus, the fruit will stop you from gaining weight(and, thus, in longer term, promote weight loss) and, possibly, improve your mood. According to NCBI:
“the meta-analysis revealed a small, statistically significant difference in weight loss favoring HCA over placebo”
Possible side effects Garcinia Dizziness, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, skin rash.
Hydroxycut hardcore elite
This supplement is claimed to work through thermogenesis – a state of elevated body temperature, when it burns more calories for thermoregulation.
Alongside that, the supplement stimulants provide you with energy, some of its ingredients boost metabolism, while the blend of yohimbe & L-Theanine is described as “combination of potent ingredients that contribute to a one-of-a-kind sensory experience”.
Keep in mind, the brand’s reputation is somewhat murky due to health scares. The Parent company who produce Hydroxycut were forced to formulate the ingredients twice due to serious side-effect being reported by customers.
Possible side effects Hydroxycut: Insomnia, jitteriness, anxiety, nausea, diarrhea. This supplement suffers from above average number of customer complaints.
Ingredients Hydroxycut: kohlii(100mg), Green Coffee(200mg), Caffeine Anhydrous(270mg), L-Theanine(100mg), cocoa extract(100mg), yohimbe extract(56.3mg), supplying yohimbine, supplying rauwolscine.

Phen24 claims to be the most potent weight loss pill on the market.
Are the claims justified?
Yes and no.
For pure fat burning qualities, we would give the Title to PhenQ.
That said there is a caveat an important one….
Phen24 is the only premium diet pill that includes a night-time supplement.
What is the big deal about this i hear you ask?
Well there is a lot science linking obesity with disturbed sleep.
Up to now this is a fact only a privileged few have really known about.
Why is it such a game changer for celebs ?
Celebs have to often change there weight and appearance in weeks and the night formula adds a massive one third to effective weight loss that would normally be wasted.
It’s rather smart !
We sleep a 1/3 of our lives so knowing your losing weight with no effort while you sleep is a big plus point.
Another factor is the positive effect on your mood.
Phen24 is one of a few premium weight loss pills to formulate its ingredients around mood and well being as well as fat burning.
The reason for this is simple….
A sunny mood can boost motivation in all aspects of your life.
So although you may not be motivated to exercise or diet at the moment when you start to feel the weight come off this can give you new enthusiasm and hope.
If you are mature and less active Phen24 is a great option.
If you want to blast away fat in the shortest possible time go for PhenQ.
Some things you must know !
Most weight loss pills contain stimulants like caffeine that disturb your sleep. It’s why some people fail using weight loss supplements.
Sleep deprivation has been shown to reduce the hormone leptin in your body which naturally reduces your cravings.
A lack of sleep also increases the levels of ghrelin hormone which makes you feel hungry.
Phen24 is the smart balanced option that pays attention to your mood and those vital hormones like Leptin.
The US National Library of medicine and health said in a peer-reviewed study. “Laboratory studies and multiple epidemiological studies have linked short-sleep duration and poor-sleep quality to obesity risk”
Possible side effects Phen24 Nausea on first day which is uncommon probably due to not drinking enough water.

Numerous celebs have caught on to the fact that you can use these to get slim without dieting.
BUT I warn against that attitude because eating poor food has negative health implications regardless of weight.
Often combined with popular diets like keto, weight watchers or cambridge to help beat food cravings which can spoil diets.
Keto by Vita is considered by many as a smart cheat helping many people to fast.
This an appetite suppressants which will more a less force you to stop eating.
Many athletes use this as health supplement because of apple cider vinegar. “…….In 1958, D.C Jarvis, MD published a book entitled ‘Folk Medicine: A Vermont Doctor’s Guide to Good Health’ wherein he recommended vinegar as a ‘cure-all’ thanks to its potassium rich qualities…..”
Mr President can I bring your Green Tea?
There are 4 main ingredients the 1st is green tea which is packed with antioxidants and used every morning by president obama who is considered the fittest president in history.
Green tea is mentioned as the best fat burner in the world by prestigious scientific website healthline.com and nutrition experts around the world agree.
Basically keto pills help you put your body into the state of ketosis which helps you utilises fat as the primary energy source, rather than carbohydrates.
It helps you burn your fat with the natural ingredients raspberry ketones and apple cider vinegar.
Take keto by vita to narrow your eating hours every day… ….this will help slow down your aging – Remember those teenage years again!

Only available from the official website
No significant side effects have been reported
Ingredients keto diet pills. raspberry ketones, apple cider vinegar, green tea extract, African mango.
#4. Slendarol
Slendarol is a brand that put emphasis on a all-natural blend of ingredients. Slendarol will provide you with the energy throughout the day, promote healthy metabolism and reduce your appetite. 2 of the ingredients raspberry ketones and garcinia cambogia have positive scientific feedback but most are based on animal tests not human tests. Also cambogia in my opinion is rather a mild appetite suppressant. The customer reviews, nevertheless, rate Slendarol quite well. The only complaint some customers have is the stimulating effect. Slendarol diet pills are sold for a relatively low price – $39.95/bottle(month’s supply), $72.95/2 bottles and $119.95/ 3 bottles + 1 free.
Possible side effects Slendarol: allergic reactions, caffeine dizziness or jitteriness.
Ingredients Slendarol: raspberry ketones, green coffee bean extract, green tea extract, garcinia cambogia.
#5.Vintage Burn
Sometimes the war against fat involves some civilian casualties.
I’m talking about those unfortunate muscle cells that get burnt for energy while you’re trying to shed some weight.
Very unfortunate indeed, since it is mostly the muscle tissue that does the fat burning. And, yes, obviously everyone actually aims for a skinny body, rather than simply a light-weight one. What can you do to attain the desired low fat-muscle ratio? ]
Vintage Burn purports to be the answer but see above for PhenQ which is the better option. This is a powerful blend of carefully selected ingredients which promotes weight loss, but also helps to preserve your muscles, – and guess what– it can even improve your mood & focus.
Possible side effects Vintage Burn: May contain trace amounts of allergens such as milk, eggs, soybeans, shellfish, fish, tree nuts, and peanuts; should not be taken in less than 4 hrs before sleep to avoid caffeine-induced insomnia.
Main Ingredients Vintage Burn: Green tea leaf extract, green coffee leaf extract, raspberry ketone, olive leaf extract, caffeine, bacopa leaf extract, garcinia fruit extract, chrysin, forskohlii root extract.Auxiliary ingredients: vegetable capsule, vegetable stearate.
#6.BurnXT
BurnXT presents a powerful formula devised by a well-established brand, Jacked Factory but it is overly packed with stimulants in my opinion. Acetyl L-carnitine HCI. This amino acid will launch the fat burning process in your cells and, somewhat unexpectedly, enhance your cognitive function.
Green tea extract offers caffeine, predictably, but more than that, it also contains a compound called EGCG(whose name we abbreviated out of mercy for your tongue) which promotes fat loss.
Caffeine Anhydrous. A stimulant the benefits of which it has been already extensively written about but this this ingredient can also have negative side effects for many people in high doses. Anhydrous simply refers to the dry consistency of the chemical (as opposed to your typical cup of coffee – or tea, whichever you fancy)
Cayenne pepper extract will give you an increase in body temperature, so that it spends more energy for thermoregulation, so that you burn fat!
Black pepper extract helps absorption of the ingredients. You want to squeeze the maximum off that pill, don’t you?
Possible side effects BurnXT: Can cause anxiety and heart palpitations be aware of high caffeine content.
Ingredients Burn XT: Acetyl L-carnitine HCI(700mg), green tea extract(450mg), caffeine anhydrous(270mg), Capsimax cayenne pepper(50mg), BioPerine(5mg).
#7.CLA-2000
You have probably heard the old wives tale about fat consumption being inherently harmful for your body.
Well, this supplement may change your mind on that one.
CLA stands for conjugated linoleic acid, which is a family of compounds that can be found in such products as dairy or poultry.
CLA promotes a healthy metabolism and helps you build pure, fat-free muscles.
One study in mice even found a fat drop by 60%!.
But be aware trials involving people have yet to confirm these fantastic results.
Possible side effects CLA: Nausea, digestive disorders.
Ingredients CLA: conjugated linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, linoleic acid.
#8. Green Coffee Plus
In contrast to the previously reviewed brands, this supplement focuses on quality, rather than quantity. Its main ingredient, chlorogenic acid, does great job at correcting an unhealthy metabolism. It does so by making your liver burn more fat. Moreover, this incredible compound is among the most powerful antioxidants on Earth. If you want to shed some of that stubborn fat and detox your body for an adequate price this is an option for you.
Side effects Green Coffee Uncommon reports of diarrhea
Ingredients: Pure green coffee extract.
#9. Alli
If most of the supplements covered are a gentle aid in the pursuit of a skinny body, this one is heavy artillery. Alli is an over-the-counter version of orlistat. What it does is it simply block lipase, – enzyme responsible for breaking down the ingested fat, – so that your fat absorption drops by a quarter. That’s it, that fat just doesn’t get absorbed. That said many customer reports suggest it is no longer as effective as it used to be.
Possible side effects Alli: Itching, loss of appetite, yellow eyes or skin, light-coloured stool, brown urine.
Ingredients: orlistat – 60mg.
CRAZY WEIGHT LOSS FACT Weight loss programs like Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig can be tax deductible. If your current weight is a threat to your health, and your doctor enrolls you on the program.

#10. Goli ACV Gummies
Lots of positive feedback, they taste great but there is a negative. They are totally organic, non-allergic, vegan-friendly. You might be surprised how many benefits ACV has. Besides helping you lose weight by boosting your metabolism, it also aids digestion, detoxes your gut and promotes a healthy heart. ACV can even improve your skin because it regulates your pH levels.
Downsides are Goli Gummies are very expensive compared to other AVC products. Each servings contains 15 calories, 3.5 carbs and 1 gram of sugars.
There are better combined options including keto pills by Vita (below) which also contains apple cider vinegar.
If you like gummies I suggest buying sugar free gummies in your local walmart:)
Possible side effects Goli Gummies: May decrease your potassium levels, may alter insulin levels.
Ingredients Goli Gummies: Apple cider vinegar(5% acetic acid) – 500mg, beetroot – 40mcg, pomegranate – 40mcg, vitamin B12, vitamin B9. Other ingredients: apple, blackcurrant, cane sugar, carrot, citric acid, malic acid, natural flavour, sodium citrate, tapioca syrup, pectin, water.

It will tell you the exact diet pills best suited for your lifestyle and body shape

It is rather amusing promotion tactic but the ingredients are common across a range of supplements.
