it is a little sad that the game writers and the fandom are so blatantly in favour of astarion as the Designated Woobie, and then wyll, and even gale to an extent, get less content. and their stories get framed as jokes, or like they weren't ~really~ harmed because the person manipulating them was a hot woman... imagine the screaming if cazador was also a romance option and hung out unkillably in your camp? but somehow it's ok for mizora, and the writers themselves can say that gale is the most annoying companion and deserves to blow up. i feel like i usually get attached to the companion characters in rpgs with the least content, which is fine, but it's a weird energy when the writers themselves seem to dislike the character.
i think that's one thing from the writers that like. didn't surprise me at all in regards to them calling Gale annoying or that he deserves to blow up lmao. like, these are same writers who rewrote wyll based on racist ass fans feedback and gave final version Wyll his unfinished and weak story, with the least amount of romance scenes + dialogue of any origin characters. the writers also failed to give him a storyline that was strictly about him, not his father, not mizora, and not balduran lmfao. top it all off with the fact you can 'romance' his abuser and then be incredibly cruel and vile towards him afterwards... like the writers are racist as hell idk.
I'm not surprised they said these things abt Gale either when they have a very obvious favoritism issue going on with their writing and how they treat their own characters
#asks#sorry this is a big ramble but yeah. its kinda terrible. im annoyed and dont trust the writers at all#gale obviously has a more complete and concise romance + storyline thats not really debatable but . the writers treat him pretty bad too#i didnt really speak on the gale thing because hes not really a character i think much abt but it was definitely cruel and uncalled for#also gale is incredibly more popular than wyll is in fandom and 'dislike' for each is based on different components that arent comparable#wylls hate is racism and antiblackness. ppl hate gale because they fnd him annoying or something of the sort#<- i dont hate him but you cant really conflate the two in regards to their treatment in fandom#gale interview

you know i had a feeling i would end up having to break my oath to make an in-character choice, and it would have been cute and gay if it came as a consequence of something to do with gale, but all things considered im like, of course it would end up being related to astarion. an oath of the ancients paladin cannot just become besties with an undead vampire without enduring at least one major moral dilemma. gonna add a readmore for spoilers and rambling
i released the 7000 spawn. of course i did. the alternatives were to let them rot in cages for eternity or kill all of them. im curious if letting astarion complete the ritual would have broken the oath as well. It would be painfully ironic if the answer was no. but when it came down to make a choice between protecting the innocent and destroying the undead, my paladin chose to protect the innocent, and that was apparently the wrong answer. But really, it was the only answer that didnt prove them to be a complete hypocrite.
i like this a lot as the logical conclusion of their friendship with astarion, extreme opposites meeting in the middle. specifically im thinking of a line you get from him early on, when he tries to convince you to take control of the cult of the absolute. if you say "that is evil power" he says something along the lines of, "power is just power, its the people who use it who are good or evil." Damn if that isn't almost exactly the same sentiment you get form your conversation with the oathbreaker knight.
i have an imagined backstory for my tav that is related to the character they're based on--which is, ironically, also an oathbreaker paladin. That character broke his oath because he refused to give up on someone he loved past the point when they were dangerous to keep alive, and betrayed another paladin to protect them. But for my Tav, I let the opposite be true--they did give up on that person, because their order had convinced them it was the right thing to do, and as a result they had to watch their loved one die. So my Tav carried a deep sense of regret their whole life for that one mistake, and made a personal conviction to never give up on someone who needed them, or who they loved.
That conviction is what I imagine lead them down the morally dubious paths they had to take to complete the various companion quests, and on some level, i think they knew that eventually the oath they made to their god and the oath they made to themself would split. this backstory tidbit also adds a lot of extra layers to the line you say to gale (if you are romancing him) when you confront the elder brain at the end of act two, to "choose the one who loves you." because thats exactly what they failed to do, and it was a mistake they refuse to make again.
And in a game where gods are generally not to be trusted, my paladin abandoning an oath in favor of their own sense of justice thematically makes a lot more sense then being like, rip to you guys but my god is different lmao (although i guess selune is shown to be unambiguously good but thats only because shes standing next to shar, the bitch of all time.) also when romancing gale theres something kind of extra gay about "lets abandon our gods together." im sure gale would have a LOT to say to a distressed paladin with a freshly broken oath given everything with mystra being just as fresh.
mechanically though, idk if i can keep this change lmao. i rely way too much on misty step to give it up as a spell. Unless i dual class in to something else that gives me misty step. or i can just stay next to gale every fight and rely on him dragging me around with dimension door lmao--i do have at least one item that gives me one free misty step per short rest. also not having speak with animals will shatter my heart lmfao. i guess ill decide tomorrow if i want to reclaim my oath for purely mechanical reasons and just hc the oath staying broken, or actually commit to the practical consequences. I could also just like. try it out for awhile and talk to the knight again if i change my mind. at least i fucking hope thats the case lol.

O hark, for a kind and very much unknown stranger hath asked about mine Deep Gnome!
Imagine, if you will, the intersection between an exotic game hunter, a sadomasochistic serial killer, and a 3'11" transmasc drag king who makes his own makeup. Got it? Got it.
Parsipan is an embrace!durge (ish) who I made for my evil run about a year ago and have been haunted by ever since. He has no sense of guilt, he actively chooses to be cruel even without the urge, he thinks with his pussy first and foremost, he's obsessive and unhinged, and most bizarre of all; he doesn't really like music.
Parsipan started as an accidentally very funny character - I had him romancing Gale, who is very sweet and sincere and whose romance path does not seem to account for the fact that you can easily romance him while playing an evil freak, so it quickly became a comedy of contrasts; Parsipan doing the most terrible things possible and Gale acting like Parsipan was perfectly trustworthy and normal. And then all of a sudden it became the most sincere tragedy I've experienced in any of my bg3 runs, because Parsipan locks himself out of any possible happy ending within the parameters of the game.
Parsipan behaves fairly normally at first, because he knows he should have allies and he knows his true desires are abnormal. Strength in numbers + he likes having pawns, so on in that vein. He immediately develops a fixation on Gale.
He likes arrogance, power, intelligence, ambition, and cruelty - Gale checks most of those boxes, and Parsipan is certain he can twist Gale into something even better (/worse) with enough time, because Parsipan also loves seeing people get corrupted. At first he views Gale as a fun toy to play with, likely to be discarded at some point in the future. By the end of act 3, Parsipan worships Gale, and is determined to get him the crown of karsus at any cost.
Most of the time, the dynamic is thus: Parsipan does something deeply evil, Gale participates (usually of his own volition), then Parsipan guides him into viewing it as necessary for survival and the greater good. He encourages every single one of Gale's power-hungry impulses. He encourages Gale's ambitions, his ego, his selfishness, his hypocrisy.
Parsipan only begins to hesitate about the things he's done after becoming Bhaal's chosen again, when he realises he's pinned himself into a corner that he can't escape on his own. Even then, he only hesitates because of Gale. If it weren't for Gale, Parsipan would have happily regained control of the Absolute and enacted Bhaal's plan.
All those tendays spent convincing Gale not to kill himself for everybody else, and then Parsipan goes and kills himself for Gale. What a fucking playthrough.
♡ More Parsipan Facts ♡
He loves roses.
He can't speak louder than a quiet conversation, because Orin damaged his vocal cords when she tadpoled him. If he tries, his voice cuts out into total silence. Under very specific circumstances you can get him to make a loud squeak like a fire alarm's low battery beep. Gale is the only other person who knows about this. You can imagine for yourself how they discovered it.
He mixes his lipstick to make it more likely to smudge, and favours a dark plum colour because it looks like a bruise when he leaves a kiss mark on someone.
He's very attracted to all the bad effects the orb has on Gale's body, but he only admits to liking some of them (like the necrotic taste and the scarring on his chest). Others, like the amount of pain it puts Gale through and the prospect of it exploding and killing everybody, he keeps his appreciation for to himself.
He imagined something much more explicit than a kiss during Gale's first romance scene. Gale didnt realise Parsipan was romantically serious about him until he saw how angry Parsipan got after Mystra's decree he use the orb against the Absolute.
He experiences most pain as pleasurable, with the exception of migraines.
His one and only hard limit in the bedroom is CG/L. This isn't for any moral reasons, but because he thinks children are deeply annoying. He's willing and happy to do literally anything else that you could possibly imagine. As long as Gale consents to it, of course.
He's a very poor speller, and his handwriting is atrocious. This has nothing to do with the brain damage and everything to do with his leaving school at age 11 and being mildly dyslexic. In all other regards he's ok with being treated like he's stupid (horny about it, even!), but he's very insecure about his writing and will get upset if his lack of skill is pointed out.
Unfortunately for everyone, he's pan and has no physical preferences whatsoever.
Only three companions survive Parsipan's run. All the others are killed, intentionally or accidentally.
Nobody is safe when Parsipan is around.
Even Parsipan isn't safe when Parsipan is around.
And
He

He has his own blog @parsipan
I would like to apeak more about Parsipan but making the jump from talking about him on discord to talking about him on tumblr is a lot
