Remember how you were talking about imperialism and nationalist propaganda in anime and manga? Do you think fullmetal alchemist falls under this? I was never interested in the show when it originally aired (both the 03 and 09 ones) but how the genocide is framed and how we are to root for characters who helped commit it... has really turned me off the series. But I want to hear your thoughts if you ever watched or read it.

I’m actually a huge fan of fmab (because in fma03 it was a Mess...it was more poetic but they deadass had hitler show up in the movie and hughes was there so just it was heavy handed imagery)

i do love the series but i feel like it could be handled better because Roy, Riza, and hughes all deserved to die like and i guess that was arakawa’s point? but she made them relatable human characters instead of the villains they legit are i wish i was older when i first saw it because i wouldve been like “yea they can go”

because even eds message was like “Yea im for equality ill hit a girl” like......what kinda logic

 but what arakawa does Differently than isayama (snk) and even the hetalia person is she never justifies thier actions and she even makes them look guilty (as they are) and thier ultimate goal in the series is really for all the war “heroes” to be executed for genocide so that includes them

where as in snk theyre being attacked the Big Ugly monsters are coming into thier borders and killing them in fma theyre not pretending to be good characters even if their story arcs are good and theyre compelling characters they know theyre going to die trying to atone for killing people (even though they cant because  its.....genocide like...)

and hetalias...............itself like all the imperialising countries have glorified roles and its really nasty

fmab couldve been handled better but it was one of the best written series and i wouldnt compare it to imperilistic propaganda like snk or hetalia but if anyone reading this has a counter argument tell me because the last time i saw it was in 2013
