i think abt the fact that my william does have a favorite kid and that it was absolutely michael pre-1983 all the time. in public claims he has no favorites but it's honestly abundantly clear in how much he lets mike get away with in private ( not that he's a Great Parent And Disciplinarian in general LMAO ). that's his First Born, his beloved eldest son, the child who looks so much like him and sounds like him. that's his mini-me and as much as he resents michael's growing rebelliousness as he gets older, it also reaffirms that He's Just Like Me! man who finds his son's obvious cries for help via acting out as Endearing and Relatable so long as it's not affecting him.

btw i also think abt the fact that no matter what he says, no matter what he tells mike? this preference never fully goes away in william's mind. he'll deny it even to himself, pretend he no longer loves michael at all, but it's bullshit.
