‣‣‣ a/n: I'M SORRY, i know y'all chose emily in the poll but I alr finished this one and I've promised myself I would try to release at least one fic a day; emily's will be out very very soon, writing smut for the first time is just very nerve wracking lmao. this is lightly based off the, good morning gorgeous, tiktok trend going around rn; Also, I'm so sorry for the amount of times I use y'all, like, literally, and really because I try to make my dialogue and what not as realistic as possible, but as a Southern Californian they're literally engraved into my vocabulary 😭😭.

Rolling over in bed half-conscious, your arms reach out, patting around the bed in an attempt to locate your girlfriend's warmth without having to open your eyes. However, to your sheer disappointment, your fingers are met with cold, rumpled sheets on Paige's side of the bed.

Now fully conscious with confusion as to how your girlfriend managed to slip from bed without you realizing, the pounding in your head became all the more severe as you sat up in bed, frustrated that the one person who could comfort you simply with their presence was nowhere to be found.

With your right hand massaging the temple, attempting to soothe the deep ache that had settled into the front portion of your head, your left hand blindly felt around your nightstand for your phone, knowing Paige wouldn't have left you alone in bed without so much as a simple text message. But to your surprise, her name was absent from your list of notifications.

Even more annoyed than before, you forced yourself out of her bed, stumbling your way to her adjacent bathroom, wincing at the sudden intrusion that was fluorescent lighting. By the time you began brushing your teeth, you heard the front door open, hearing Paige call your name as she entered the dorm.

"Bathroom," you yelled out to her, despite your head screaming at you to shut up and crawl back under the safety of Paige's comforter.

"Hey baby," Paige greeted as she entered the bathroom while you spit toothpaste into the sink, coming up behind you to hug your waist, resting her head on your shoulder. As you stood back up to meet her gaze in the mirror's reflection, you saw her tuck her bottom lip into her mouth, clearly trying to hide her shit-eating grin.

"Well don't you look... interesting this morning," she teased, the sarcasm apparent in her low voice. You knew her mocking was all in good fun, the two of you often poking fun at each other for little things. But perhaps it was the headache still waging war in your skull, or the final three midterms you had to take later today, or your remanent annoyance at having to wake up alone, despite her knowing your favorite part of the day was waking up, warm and all loved up in her arms, or perhaps it was the fact that looking in the mirror, you genuinely looked wrecked this morning.

Your curly hair was reduced to nothing but a puff of frizz overnight, sticking out in all directions, your eyebags particularly prominent this morning, combined with the pesky anxiety breakout that had settled into your forehead a few days prior, you just couldn't handle her jokes today.

"Yes, thank you for pointing that out Paige," you shot back, setting your toothbrush back in its cup holder, exiting her hold to wipe your hands on the small towel before pushing past her to get dressed in her room.

Paige followed close behind you, curious as to why you were giving her so much attitude so early in the day, especially over such a harmless statement.

"What's up with you, this is the first time I've even seen you this morning," She questioned from her seat on the unmade bed as you began changing your clothes with your back facing her, which was another thing that struck out to her as odd. After dating for over a year now, the two of you were incredibly comfortable with each other, and it was rare for you to completely turn your back on her, even when changing.

"Nothing, I'm just not in the mood today," you grumbled, tugging your, her, sweatshirt over your head. Heading over to her floor length mirror with your makeup bag and necessary hair products in hand, you settle down on the floor in front of it, convinced to improve your appearance a bit before you head off to your exams today. Still ignoring Paige's presence in the room, you began getting ready.

Hearing her scoff as you started applying your makeup, she got up and began making the bed, intent on ignoring your bratty mood until you fixed it. You knew you were being petty and acting bitchy to your girlfriend, who had technically done nothing wrong, you just couldn't force yourself to drop the attitude. By the time you finished your makeup and smoothed out your slickback, you managed to go the entire twenty minutes without so much as looking at your girlfriend through the mirror, who had now perched herself on her side of the bed, scrolling mindlessly on her phone.

Your headache hadn't subsided yet, but now that you were more awake, you had gotten used to the throbbing sensation. Making your way over to your side of her bed, you collected your phone, headphones, watch, school bag, and other items from your nightstand and around the area to get ready to leave.

"Your heading out already? You still have over an hour before your first class," Paige finally addressed you, putting her phone in her lap to look at you as you packed your things.

"Yeah I'm gonna head to the library early so I can review before my first midterm," You answered, speaking to her normally for the first time in the last hour she had returned.

"But what about breakfast, you're not gonna be able to concentrate and stuff when you're all hangry," she said, only slightly teasing you with her statement.

"I'll just grab something to eat from the coffee shop next to the library, I was gonna stop by and get matcha from there anyways," you responded, a small part inside of you glad that despite your attitude, Paige made sure that you were well taken care of.

"Dude I still don't understand how you drink that stuff, tastes like straight grass," she had dropped her concern and switched back to joking, her automatic setting. "But I guess it's fitting," she continued, "cause yk, cows just love their grass," she sighed, holding back her laughter at what she thought was a brilliant joke.

In her defense, if it was any other morning, you would've joined in on her teasing, either mooing at her in response or poking fun at her in return.

But today, it just ticked you off even further. I mean, you were clearly already in a bad mood, stressed the fuck out, hangry (but Paige didn't need to know she was right), and the sharp pressure in your head was only getting worse. Plus, Paige had already easily finished off her midterm exams two days prior, which meant she didn't truly understand why you were so worked up over your exams. And the worst part, your bloating and exhaustion really did make you feel a little bit like a cow.

“P I'm just not in the mood to deal with you right now," you sighed, exasperation laced in your tone. "I already feel bad enough this morning, I can't handle you piling more onto my plate, I'll see you later," you barely even said goodbye to her properly as you gathered your stuff, put on your shoes, and left her dorm.

The second you closed her door behind you, you could feel the pit forming in your stomach, full of regret and shame. You knew it was unfair to be so rude to Paige when she was just trying to lighten your mood, but your anxiety always caused you to last out at anyone who tried to help you. You made a mental note while walking to your favorite coffee shop to apologize and make it up to her when you saw her in the evening, after the stress from midterm week had diffused and your raging headache calmed down.

You were flipping through your study notes and flashcards while listening to one of Paige's playlist on the lowest volume possible when you saw your phone screen light up from next to you. Deciding it would be good to take a quick thirty second break, you reach for your phone and matcha latte at the same time, clicking on the text message you received from Paige.

You breathed a sigh of relief as you finally reached the floor of Paige's dorm room, exhausted from your long and mentally tiring day of midterms, but you were finally done, your headache was finally gone, and you now had the weekend to relax and spend time with your girlfriend.

As you reached for your keys in your pocket, you heard the loud commotion of voices that you recognized to be KK, Aubrey, Sarah, Allie, and Paige in the living room. It wasn't uncommon for the girls to be over, as the team always spent hung out together outside of practice, and since you started spending more time at Paige's dorm, you had quickly stocked her near bare kitchen full of snacks, baked goods, and home-cooked meals the girls loved to steal.

You entered the living room greeting everyone as you took off your shoes, making a beeline straight to where Paige was sitting on the couch. You stood in between the space of her legs, wrapping your free arm around her shoulders to lean down and plant a kiss on the top of her head.

"Hey P," you spoke softly, looking down at the small smile that had settled on her face.

"Hey yourself, how were you midterms? Today was your last day right?" She questioned as her fingertips began running up and down the back of your legging covered thigh.

"They were fine, I think I did good on majority of them. My math midterm was a little shaky, but not too bad yk?" You answered her quietly, afraid to pop the little bubble of peace you two had created around yourselves among the chaos of the living room's occupants.

"I," you began, as your hand had made its way to the front of her face as you pushed back a small piece of hair that had escaped out of her bun. "Will you come in the room with me real quick?" You asked her, practically whispering at this point.

"We'll be right back," she announced to the group as the two of walked by. "Oooo, Paige is in trouble," KK sang out as the two of you reached her closed room door, Paige still standing behind you. She turned the knob quickly, gently pushing you into the room first as she turned around to stick her tongue out at KK before she closed the door.

By the time she turned around from the door to face you, she barely had a moment to adjust to your body barreling into her, as you had already dropped your bag off next to her desk. She quickly wrapped her arms around you, being able to sense that you just needed to be held for a minute before speaking.

She lightly rubbed your back and shoulders with her hands, knowing exactly what it was that immediately calmed you down. You stayed silent in her comforting embrace for a few more minutes, having craved her touch all day when you were around campus.

"I'm sorry," you finally spoke up, unburying your head from her chest to look her in the eyes. "I was really rude to you for no reason this morning. My headache when I woke up and all the stress I had was completely unrelated to you, but I still ended up taking it out on you," you sighed before continuing, "I really appreciate the fact that you were trying to cheer me up this morning, even though I was being a total bitch. And you are never a burden or someone who adds more onto my plate, I love you and I'm so sorry I said that to you, I would never want you to feel that way and-" as your eyes began to well up with tears, the last of your apology was cut off by Paige.

"Hey hey it's okay baby," she pulled you slightly away from her as the tears began flowing from your eyes. "I know you," she maintained eye contact as she reassured you, "And I know you would never act like that normally, you are not a bitch. You were just stressed out and not feeling well. I understand, and I promise I'm not mad at you at all," her right hand moved up from your back to your face, wiping the tears streaming down your face.

"Thank you P, I have no idea what I would do without you," you sniffled lightly, your hand coming up to wipe your face as well. "I love you so much, you have no idea," you professed.

"I love you too y/n/n," she whispered as her hands wrapping around your waist as she pulled you into her, leaning down slightly to kiss you. Your hands flew up the moment your lips connected, one cradling her jaw while the other rested on the base of her neck. The kiss was slow and languid, an apology met with forgiveness as your lips moved together.

The loud rumbling of your stomach, interrupted your sweet moment with Paige, forcing the two of you to separate as a giggle slipped out of her.

"Didn't realize a small kiss made you that hungry for me," she smiled, now at peace knowing that you were no longer upset. "Shut up," you smiled back, lightly hitting her chest as you broke away from her. "I am for real hungry though, but I need to shower first," you told her as you moved around the room, grabbing your towel and a fresh pair of pajamas to change into.

"I'm pretty sure Aubrey is ordering Domino's so I'll tell her to add in something for you, and it'll probably be here by the time you get out," she kissed your cheek as you went to exit the room, heading for a quick shower as she remained in her room.

As you entered the living room, curls freshly washed, a soft pair of Paige's sweatpants resting low on your hips, and a small off the shoulder sweatshirt over your sleep tank top, you witness KK showing her tik tok live her "hips dance", if it could even be referred to as that.

"Oh wow," Paige commented dryly at the sight while getting up from the couch so she could grab her laptop from the kitchen counter. You moved past her to Aubrey's desk, grabbing a piece of garlic knots from the Domino's box she left partially open (i don't think she actually bought any but I'm craving them so i added it in here). You rested your hip against the table, waving at the live while KK queued up Sexyy Red on her Siri.

Everyone knew you and Paige were a couple, when Paige accidentally hard-launched you by posting a cute couples pic on her main instagram story instead of her close friends. But since then, the two of you kept a private but not secret relationship, very occasionally posting together, but fans often saw candids of the two of you on dates or together in the team's lives or other events.

You licked the remaining cheese and butter off your fingers as you watched Paige, KK, and Aubrey dance in front of the camera to "U My Everything", smiling at their so-called dance moves, especially Paige's.

"Man we go together tell them hoes we go together," Paige sang, before doing her little "attitude now walk" move, making you double over with laughter at her with the other two girls.

You scratched the back of your neck as you continued to watch the girls mess around, too tired from your day to join them, but content just from watching them. As the second chorus approached, Paige walked up to your leaned figure on the desk, grabbing your bare waist and pulling you into her as she sang.

"Bae, I love you, you my everything, I'm your main bitch, fuck a wedding ring," you laughed at her awful singing, but you couldn't deny the blush that rose to your cheeks at the thought of her singing you the lyrics while very clearly in the live's frame. "We both in fast cars and we switchin' lanes, when I'm away from you, you always on my brain," she continued, adding in her sassy facial expressions with the corresponding lyrics.

You couldn't help but laugh at her actions, the pure giddiness coursing through your veins was a complete 180 from your mood this morning, and you couldn't help but think there was nowhere that would make you happier than in her arms.

Tiktok trends weren't entirely your thing, but upon seeing this one you figured why not try it out. You stared at your phone, the video of a girl blowing kisses into the camera playing on the screen. She had a fur hat on and the white tufts were glittery in that specific lighting. There was a similar hat around somewhere - most likely on your boyfriends head. All you had to do was obtain it by either stealing it briefly or asking to borrow it. You didn't really want to explain why you needed his hat because he'd probably find it silly, so you chose the first option. Even if he caught you taking his hat it's not like he'd be mad. If anything he'd either find it mildly amusing or he just simply wouldn't care.

You began your search for the fluffy accessory, feeling as though you had struck gold upon remembering your lover was in the shower. You headed back towards your shared bedroom, hoping he had left it on your dresser where he usually did. You knew him well enough to be correct and you snatched the hat off of it before making your way back to the living room. Your fingers brushed over the soft fur as you pulled up the audio and propped up the phone against a lamp. You set the timer to three seconds, starting the recording and taking a few steps back. The countdown sound had covered the clicking of the door and Fyodors soft footsteps exiting the bathroom. The audio sounded throughout the living room while you watched yourself dance in the camera.

You had a smile on your face and your hands on your hips as you started lip syncing the chorus, having watched enough videos with lyrics that spelled out the pronunciation to do it relatively accurately. As you brought your hand to your mouth to blow a kiss, Fyodor spoke, making you jump like a cat at the sight of a cucumber. "Ah, that's where my hat went." His voice was soft and smooth, mostly monotonous as usual. You could feel heat focus in your cheeks as you embarrassedly stood there. "Well I wasn't gonna barge in on your shower to ask for it." You said, trying to justify yourself. He smiles slightly in amusement and approaches you, adjusting the hat so that the flaps were hooked together on the top instead of at the sides.

"I believe that's how most people who are participating in the trend are wearing it." He says, pressing a kiss to your cheek with his hands on your shoulders. "You've seen it?" You raise an eyebrow, unaware of whether or not he had recently downloaded tiktok. He shook his head though. "No, it is quite coincidental that this is trending now, though. I had thought about the song the other day, so I looked up the lyrics and the videos were some of the top results. The song was popular when I was young." He explains to you, gazing at you from beyond his eyelashes. Your mouth forms an 'o' shape as you nod in understanding.

"So you don't think it's stupid or anything?" You ask, once again raising an eyebrow. Fyodor seems to think for a moment, gathering his thoughts. "Sort of. I don't really understand the 'slavic-core' thing. I suppose it's appreciation though, and that is refreshing to see." He says, shrugging as his finger rests on his chin. "That's fair." You say, before grabbing your phone and deleting the clip. You look to see if Fyodor is going anywhere before restarting the timer only to be met with him staring back at you. "Should I leave while you film?" He asks with a tilt of his head, his damp hair cascading towards the right side. You hesitantly shake your head, grabbing his hand gently. "No, no, you can stay. You did the hat thing for me, so I don't wanna kick you out." You say. He smiles and sits down on the couch, his soft stare fixated upon your body as the countdown started again.

You blushed, covering the bottom half of your face with your hand as you backed up again. The music started up again and you did the little routine once more, your boyfriend low key amused as he watched with a neutral face. You finished it and retrieved your phone with your tongue poking out of the corner of your mouth as you watched the video over. You thought it was cute, so you wrote out a caption and tags and posted it. Fyodor was still staring at you when you looked back over at him. "What?" He let out a small amused chuckle. "You just look sort of silly, my dear." He says. An embarrassed smile pulls at the corners of your lips as you sigh and nod. "Yeah, I could imagine." You murmur against the skin of your fingers. He pulls you closer to him by your waist, pressing two soft kisses to your side, mimicking the 'mwah' sound in the audio, making you blush a little before trying to push his head away from your body.

"Stop teasing me." you playfully say as he hums against the fabric of your shirt. "I'm not teasing you, Moya lyubov, I'm just reenacting your little video." He claims. You run your fingers through his hair and sigh. Your couldn't complain though, after all, he did let you borrow his favorite hat to participate in the trend.

Virgil was in his room watching TikTok on his phone, when he came across a video. Someone was wearing a hoodie while someone else behind them was in the back of it, using their arms as the first persons arms. When he saw this, he got an idea.

Virgil made his way to Romans room, and knocked on the door. "Come in~" he said in a sing song tone. "Hey Roman. Whatcha doing?" Roman was at his desk, working on the script for the next sander sides video for Thomas. "Just helping Thomas with his script. Why?" Roman asked. "I was wondering if you're willing to try this trend with me." As Virgil said that, he pulled out his phone, pulling up the video he watched earlier.

"Oh, Yeah sure!" Roman said excitedly. He was mostly happy because Virgil barely wants to hang out with any of the sides. If so, he mostly hangs with Patton. So this was special for Roman. "So we're gunna need one of my hoodies." Virgil went to go grab a big hoodie that he owned. When he came back Roman was already set up with everything ready to go.

"Ok, so am I gunna be your arms, or are you gunna be mine?" Roman asked. "You can be my arms." Virgil put on the hoodie and let Roman get in the back. His arms then went through the sleeves, and they were ready to record. They chose the same audio that the other people did, and just ran with that. As they were recording though, Roman kept breathing on Virgil's neck on the inside of the hoodie.

Roman stopped the recording. "Hey, why do you keep shivering?" Roman started. "You are literally wearing a hoodie." He exclaimed. Roman was still in the hoodie as he was talking. So every time he would talk, it would send another tingly vibration down Virgil's spine. "I'm not s'shivering. I don't know w'what you're talking a'about." Virgil stuttered. "Is it cause I'm breathing on you?" When he asked that, Virgil got a little pink in the face.

Roman finally stuck his head out of the hoodie- his face also downing a nice crimson and some beads of sweat -he looked at Virgil and saw the pink in his cheeks. "I know why I'm red but why is your face flushed as well?" As roman said that, his face flushed a deeper pink. Roman was confused for a second. Until he put two and two together, and realized what was happening. "So you're sure you're fine?" As he said that, he shifted his hand so it could poke Virgil in the stomach a little. This made him jump slightly.

"Nope. I'm fihine." He awkwardly laughed, to brush off some of the tension. "Are you sure?" Roman leaned in to Virgil's ear to whisper that. When he did Virgil scrunched up his neck. Roman mentally giggled at that. Oh this is gunna be fun... he thought. "Hey Virgil." "Whahat?" He giggled slightly. "You know what would be great right now?" He started. "A kiss." With that he then started giving Virgil tiny kisses on his neck, behind his ear, and on his collarbone.

To tell you Virgil was a mess is an understatement. He was giggling up a storm, just enjoying the sensations on his body -But he would never tell anyone that(except for Roman...)- "aww, you look so cute like this Virgie." That made Virgil blush even more. "Stohahap wihith the tehehsihing!" Virgil said through the giggles. "Aww, but you love the teases~" he pulled up Virgil's shirt and the hoodie a bit, and started poking Virgil's stomach. That made the giggles pick up, and the squeals start.

After about 2,3 minutes of this Roman finally spoke. "Hey, Virge. You know what I'm craving right now?" Virgil didn't answer and just kept giggling. He shook his head back and fourth already knowing the answer. "Raspberries!" With that he then started blowing tiny raspberries on Virgil's neck and collarbone. When I tell you, Virgil screamed. "EEEEEEhehe!! NoHOHOoh!!" Virgil was in stitches, but he was also the happiest he'd been this whole week.

He's been down lately, in a state of depression. So he thought by doing this with Roman would really help lift his spirits. -and oh, did it do more then that- his dopamine levels were as high as a kite right now. "Hey Virge. You know what I've noticed." He stated calmly, as if there wasn't a grown man in hysterics in front of him. "Whahhahahat!?" He tried to answer. "You haven't once said for me to stop." He said with a shit-eating grin on his face. As he said that, he slowed his 'attack' to a stop.

"w'Well, i- um..." his blush burned a dark crimson at this point, and started to spread to the tips of his ears. "Do you perhaps like it?~" Roman asked. "n'No..." that got him a poke to the side. -the hoodie had already gotten taken off of the both of 'em at this point- he squeaked. "Ok, maybe a little..." Virgil's face was flushed so brightly, if you didn't know what they were talking about, you would be concerned for him.

"Well isn't that just adorable~" Roman said. "No it's not!" When he said that, Roman lifted a brow. "Are you sure about that?~" he then fluttered his fingers on Virgil's neck, making him giggle and scrunch up. "You're just like a roly poly." Roman smiled at Virgil. Which made him look away in embarrassment. "Hey, don't look away." He started. " I'm not done tickling you yet." There they both were, on the floor, in a tickle fight. Forgetting about the once attended to tripod, that was still recording Everything.

Hi love! Thanks for the ask 😘 The short answer for why Din or Tim is that I'm personally very weak for gruff, competent men who are secret softies and caretakers. 🤭😍 Longer ramblings under the cut 🫡

Safest with You was the first story I ever wrote (down) and it probably always had to be Din because I'm the most familiar with him? I've watched (and thought about) The Mandalorian more than I have any of Pedro's other shows/films (the second is Narcos).

The concept of a (retired) mob enforcer who loves his girl enough to leave her came to me when I was driving in the car and listening to "People" by Libianca, and I just couldn't get the image of two people in love who are apart and miserable, out of my head; she's safe, but at what cost? Yup, you heard it here first: even though we are just now getting to the angst in Ch. 19/20/21, this angst spawned the whole series 😂 My brain is weird! To this day, when I listen to that song, I think of Din and Pretty Bird and I probably always will.

As for The Rockford Portfolio, this one started (and continues) very differently! None of us know Tim that well because there's only been 48 seconds of him in canon 🤭 and this makes it super fun to write him because we can make a lot of things up - hopefully I've been able to paint an attractive and consistent picture of this man!

The stories for them come from everywhere! The first one was written for a Tumblr writing challenge where I had to brainstorm an ocean themed location/plot first, and once I decided on the aquarium location I picked a Pboi after (it was *almost* an aquarium date with Marcus Moreno, or an aquarium field trip chaperoned by Mr. Ben!🤷🏻‍♀️).

Some inspo comes from fun Tiktok trends and sometimes stories are inspired by posts and fics from talented writers here! Tim and Shutterbug's stories just come when they come; I don't have an overall plot for them (for now anyways) and that actually makes writing TPR and SwY at the same time very beneficial. SwY is fully outlined until the end (including epilogue), so when I write it, there’s pressure to make sure I hit certain plot points or convey certain points of view. I can get stuck sometimes. It's nice to a have a series that doesn't have a lot of structure to it, so there's no pressure but I can continue writing in order to keep the creative juices flowing 😊

In regards to Wet Leg, I think the TikTok aspect of it is really kicking. They're ~cool and edgy and sexual and out there and just so fucking *trendy* that it seems almost fake to me. Kinda like Måneskin (who used to be cooler I must admit but now is just another act in the back of the line...)

The very ~edgy cool quotable sexual innuendo easy to memorize~ lyrics do a lot of work too, I think (which, to me, seem so fucking cringe and immature and like, uninspired???)

And the fact that POP-DEITY and all around easy to digest and ~relevant and queer and catering to the right audiences Harry Styles endorsed them so heavily? And the continuous repeated mention of other celebs who love them like Elton John, Dave Grohl and Florence Welch, it's like they're just being pushed super hard in the industry. It seems so rehearsed and put-on. Like a spiel someone has been paid off to say every fucking time.

The Brits themselves must have been eager to have someone young, female and trendy to push forward to stay woke and up to date after the controversy.

Also, the fact that they copied Alex's speech at the Brits, but she hadn't even memorized it? She needed to look at her phone and it seemed so odd? Like why??? And then she stopped? Why begin and not follow through and commit to the bit? Like what was the point? She was trying to say how its amazing to have more women in rock and she chose to quote a speech made by a man dripping with sarcasm who doesn't care about being there?? And then she proclaimed how much it meant to them? Like?? Just, go with either one... She clearly had no fucking clue what he meant with that speech.

The more I think about it the more I agree that the 'tiktok potential' aspect may be a huge factor in this.

I saw someone on Twitter use the phrase "fast fashion but in music" - and I think that kind of nails it? There's always been musical trends but now like with everything they're coming and going so much faster than ever before. And with tiktok being able to make a song trend and bring the artist millions of views & streams it's no wonder the industry will gear towards that to get some easy income in. Especially when the songs that do best are literally the most basic easy-to-compose tunes one can think of.

I'm not even very up to date with these things. But I can see some patterns. Like make up a song that's simple, relatable - and like you're saying edgy and (*gasp!*) sexual + very rhythmic (good for edits and jump cuts/transitions) & you've got a potential hit.

"ABCDE-FU" type of shit. Or yeah- some of the new Måneskin songs too. Like BLA BLA BLA and Kool Kids (which were the only two actually unbearable songs on the album to me - but then in shock I found out that they're up in the top of their young fans' favorites)

(I do also agree - I was very much a fan of Måneskin and their previous two albums. They kind of lost that originality though with most ot the tracks on this one. Very much going the fast-fashion-music direction unfortunately)

Harry Styles' support being a big reason also just came to me yesterday as an idea - glad to see someone also thinks this could be a factor. His music isn't my thing - but I can respect it and even say some of the songs I have heard are good. But he's got a crazily dedicated fan base to the point that I believe they'd love and support anything he ever said he liked.

It's exactly the fact that next to them suddenly getting all these awards they've also been getting so much acknowledgement from fellow musicians who make completely different music that made me want to understand. I just feel like I'm missing something here!

Because I can understand getting the little songs stuck in your head or enjoying bopping around to them. But how does that type of song get you "best new discovery" awards & recognition from people like Elton/Dave/Florence???

The point you made about Brits possibly clinging to them as their hip-trendy and female representation is am interesting one too! Quite possible with the scandal they had.

And yeah... That speech... honestly didn't know what to think about it at first. Except how it was almost physically painful watching the awkwardness. It could've been a good idea to do if it had literally and thought and aim behind it. Like is they felt the same way about award shows and the way the industry works as Alex/AM does. They obviously don't though.

If it was meant to be a cheeky little joke-reference then it should've just been that first line (I'd appreciate it that way!). When she continued with it I stopped in my tracks and thought she'll do the full thing as maybe some deeper commentary/statement. But then she cut it off randomly... Strange.

And you're right it did also actually kind of contradict some of the things they added later?

Overall - I've got some ideas but still don't feel much closer to solving this mystery.

But very grateful for what you added! I think we've got a similar view on these things.

Dusting off old records.

I don't know about you guys but I am too happy to know this is our last tumblr post (no offense to Ms. Grassy). Therefore, I wanted to end on a fun note so today my post relates to Netflix sensation "Wednesday" and her iconic dance (if you haven't watched it, here's the video). However, I will not be focusing on the music of the series but the odd event around this dance. What I mean is how Lady Gaga's 'Bloody Mary' went viral thanks to Wednesday even though the song was never in the series. Let's take a step back. "Wednesday" the new original Netflix series was released on November 23. Within a week of its release, I saw videos of this iconic dance everywhere. So, I watched the clip of this dance and was mesmerized by Jenna Ortega and her peculiar dance, the aesthetics of the video, and I actually loved the original song "Goo Goo Muck" by The Cramps. As a result, I decided to watch the series. Before I could assimilate how great the music selected for this series was (from Vivaldi to Rock-n-Roll), I began seeing the inevitable... a new TikTok trend! Yes, as you probably guessed, there is a new TikTok trend with people imitating Wednesday's dance but not with the original song. Instead, the song "Bloody Mary" is being used. We are talking about a song that was released over 11 years ago, and is currently number 1 on the Shazam Top 200 global charts and on TikTok. I'm not surprised this song is number 1 on Shazam charts since the song itself is ancient and I had never heard it and apparently neither had the rest of the world. Nevertheless, I felt a little frustrated because I couldn't understand why they had to change the song. I mean, sure I am doing a project on Gaga but not all her music is my cup of tea. After research and research of why this happened, it just came down to the audience. That's right, the fans were responsible for the modifications and I guessed they decided to go with Gaga's song because in this dance, Jenna Ortega uses a lot of hand movement and the song "Bloody Mary" says:

"I'll dance, dance, dance With my hands, hands, hands Above my head, head, head"

It seems like the fans adapted the song to this video which is an allusion to the lyrics and so now everyone can do the "Bloody Wednesday". What amazes me even more is how this 11 year old song is putting Gaga at the top of some charts without Gaga even moving a finger. It was all thanks to the series and the fans. Here we can see the importance of how a song is popularized. Before we needed radios, advertisements, etc. and now it seems that all it takes is a successful series or any popular event and the audience liking a song to such a successful event, even when a song wasn't part of it. I honestly don't remember if we spoke about it in the Negus, but I can say that the audience has a tremendous power and it's up to them to choose who to make famous and potentially also whom to destroy if linked to an unfavorable event. If you have any comments about how this trend came to be or why they chose this song or any comment in general regarding the audience and how their responsibility and power has evolved, I would appreciate it.

Telling a Coming-of-Age Story through Music

One of the beautiful things about music is our instinctual habit to associate certain songs with different parts of our lives. Music has the ability to transport you in time upon the first few seconds of listening. Sometimes, the memories attached to music can even change your opinion of the song itself. They can make supposedly “bad” songs sound so much better- or, even ruin some of the greatest songs. That phenomenon can be accredited to the power of nostalgia in music. Personally, I consider myself to be a very sentimental person. I find peace in reflecting on moments in my life while listening to melodramatic music. As a nod to this joy of mine, I decided to make a playlist that reminds me of the process of growing up. To me, this playlist can serve as a soundtrack to a coming-of-age movie. Individually, each song can be associated with different chapters of life, from childhood to young adulthood. When put together, these songs offer me feelings of nostalgia and a unique feeling of comfort, and I hope you feel the same way as you listen. 

Kids - MGMT

Starting this playlist off with “Kids” by MGMT only seemed fitting to represent my adolescent years. Not only because of the on-the-nose song title, but lyrically the song is an ode to childhood and simpler times. The artist mentions in an interview with Time out London that the song was written with the intention of inducing nostalgic feelings of your youth (Source). The track opens with the sound of children joyfully cheering, and the lyrics reference the life lessons you experience as you grow. Take a listen and watch as your mind instantly floods with your happiest childhood memories.

Tongue Tied - Grouplove

The second track of my playlist is an exhilarating, heavily-synthesized, indie-pop song that has been played at almost every high school party since its initial release in 2011: “Tongue Tied” by Grouplove. I find this song to represent the wild, rebellious part of the high school experience, thus I chose it as the second track of my coming-of-age playlist. Deemed an “iconic teenage anthem” by music critic, Eva Salzman, this track does a great job of creating a combination of euphoric feelings in the listener. You simply cannot stand still when listening to it. Thirty seconds in and I'm already on my feet dancing and inviting my friends to take a shot with me.

Where'd All the Time Go? - Dr. Dog

Nostalgia is bittersweet. Sure, I can proceed to make this entire playlist an assortment of happy-go-lucky tracks that only bring back sweet memories, but that would be an unrealistic portrayal of growing up. The third track of this playlist touches on existential feelings and confusion over the fleetingness of time that took over me once I graduated high school and started my first semester of college. To represent that awkward phase of life where you’re no longer a teenager but not yet a full-fledged “adult,” I chose the song “Where’d All the Time Go?” by Dr. Dog. I came across this song about a year ago on behalf of a TikTok trend in which people would choose a photo of themselves as a child, and the photo would then morph into a more recent photo of their older selves, with this song playing in the background of the video. 

The trend itself is slightly somber in nature, and the song perfectly captures those sorrowful feelings of revisiting old pictures and reflecting on time past. My freshman year of college was filled with a lot of those moments, so I felt this track would be a great addition to the playlist, as it speaks for that relatable time in all of our lives. 

Thats No Fun - Steve Lacy

“Thats No Fun” by Steve Lacy is the fourth song I added to this playlist. It is a spunky, indie song that references self-discovery and transformation.

Because they stayed on the same old shit

… You see me, I'm not the type of guy

But I used to before I found my high

But they can't grasp, they don't know why

I'm not the same Steve they used to like”

Outgrowing things is a normal part of life. It’s inevitable that you’ll one day outgrow clothes, hobbies, and even friends. Lacy touches on this when he speaks about his growth and refers to these changes as himself "evolving." I associate this song with the college experience; When you move out of your hometown and engage with a new environment,  you are granted the freedom you need to evolve. College in itself is a transitional period filled with new experiences and life lessons. During this time, you'll find that things that once brought you joy, may no longer serve you. This is a natural phase of life that is incredibly common during young adulthood, and I find this song to capture those feelings beautifully.

Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now - The Smiths

I decided to end this playlist on a bitter note. “Heaven Knows Im Miserable Now” by the Smiths is a melancholic, yet, swingy song about a person who is fully aware of their own misery and deep sadness in life but chooses to embrace it. Although the lyrics are pretty weepy, the song is, sonically, very upbeat. 

"I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour

But heaven knows I'm miserable now

I was looking for a job and then I found a job

And heaven knows I'm miserable now"

These lyrics in particular remind me of the stage in life, typically post-graduation, when you reach a point of disappointment. A feeling of “So.. this is it?” This is particularly noticeable in the line that references the act of joyfully seeking a job just to become unhappy once you do get hired and realize that you'll be working this job every day for the rest of your "miserable" life. What better song to realistically portray the infamous quarter-life crisis? 

Each of these songs play a different role in telling a story about life so far, from the perspective of someone in their early 20s. I believe this playlist can serve as a musical coming-of-age story, and I hope you were able to relive some of your most memorable life experiences while listening to these songs.

Concerning my project

This week I will talk about my research project. I chose the topic “Kate Bush and Stranger Things” because I think that the song of Kate Bush “Running Up That Hill” can now be connected to this Netflix show. Her song has been reused and revived in the fourth season of Stranger Things which was released in May and July 2022. First, I wanted to tackle the impact of her song nowadays, but with the advice of our professor, I will now try to link Kate Bush’s song official release to the way it has been used by Netflix this year. It means that I will look at the representation of her song when it was originally released in 1985 and I will look at how this representation has changed in 2022 with Netflix.

My key question will be: How does the representation of the song “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush changed and to what extent has it been revived in 2022?

Therefore, for my time frame, I will focus on the period from 1985 to 2022.

1985 because it is the year of the first release of the song and 2022 because the song is back in the charts and on the radio. However, I'm going to focus more on the current year as I'm interested in the new representation of Kate Bush’s song which has been revived thanks to its appearance in Stranger Things series. Several of my primary sources talk of a “revival” of the song.

Concerning my primary sources and the methodology, I will use a lot the music videos as I will look at the visual representation and the lyrics. I will compare these two music videos.

His theory will help me to analyse the two music videos I mentioned.
