1. For the most part, Lucy enjoys her supernatural vampire powers and uses them alot. But she rarely uses her hypnosis powers except when she feels she needs them and won't use them to harm others. She believes her powers should be used either for fun, harmless scaring, revenge, or helping others. In general: You gotta have a good reason to use them.

A. Lucy has vampire powers being a vampire-leaning dhampir. She can float, shapeshift, fly as a bat, has super strength, super speed, super senses, vampiric charm, hypnosis powers, magical telekinesis, etc. Her convictions come from 2 things: Having a mom who was fearful of hypnosis, her family's values, and the stereotype of monsters as evil.

B. A situation where she had to use hypnosis on someone to help them, or when someone had REALLY pissed her off.

2. Lucy and Lizzie both use their powers for this.

A. I already went over Lucy's powers. Lizzie is a dragon: She can shapeshift, king fu fight, fly, breathe fire, create chi dopplegamgers, etc and was trained to be the protector of the magical community.

B. I know Jake was tempted by money and girls or making his life easier, so Lizzie might have similar temptations.

3. Lucy likes to float around alot for fun, lifts her brother in big bear hugs, use her magic to hold and handle things, and likes to charm people to get what she wants or get out of things. She also has a natural ability to sneak around she uses for both pranks and exploration. Her vampire abilities give her a big boost, but she does like to use them to help others too.

4. In HT, Magical powers are only common in certain monsters and those of monster descent. Lucy has her powers because of her vampire ancestry. Vampire-leaning Dhampirs are between monsters and humans when it comes to power. They aren't quite as strong or powerful as a full vamp, but they're far more powerful than the average human. Humany leaning dhampirs are similar to humans with few subtle vampire perks. Lucy is probably on the powerful side for a dhampir due to both her Dracula and Van Helsing ancestry and her love and pride in being a monster and drive to use her abilities. Most vampirey dhampirs are probably closer to Dennis.

For Lizzie, while there's a whole magical community in hiding from muggles in a similar arrangement to Harry Potter and MIB, Dragons are considered the most powerful and thus are the leaders and protectors of the magical world. Much of my story focuses on when Lizzie is 13-14, a common age for dragon powers to emerge.

6. Lucy and Lizzie's are both hereditary. Lucy is half vampire and Lizzie is a dragon. HOWEVER, there are other factors. For dhampirs, how their parented can determine if vampire abilities emerge. If they are over protected and suppressed, for example, they may not develop them at all. More abusively, the powers can be scared out. However, in the case of Simon and Lucy, it's mostly personality and luck which side of their ancestry they favor. Vampire abilities are connected with fangs. If the little late fanger doesn't get their fangs by age 5, they probably never will. Those that DO get powers have to be taught how to use them though.

For Lizzie, dragon abilities largely lie dormant until about 13, with some displaying them at age 8. They need to be trained to fully master their many powers though. However, sometimes dragons never get their powers and they remain humani-locked like Jake's mother. It's unknown if this happens in reverse where a dragon becomes draconi-locked.

7. For Lucy: she's allergic to silver and garlic as part of her vampire ancestry, albeit not as severely as a full blood vamp like Mavis or Drac. She can't hypnotize people wearing glasses or contacts, probably can't hypnotize some characters whos mind is totally broken (like Fiddleford), much stronger characters (like Bill, although she might be able to hypnotize anyone he's possessing), or ones without eyes (like Sammy) and it's possible her powers could be drained by magic like Agatha Harkness' or perhaps suppressed by things like GENT towers. They probably also get weaker of she's sick or malnourished. For Lizzie: Her biggest weakness is sphinx hair, or talisman killdragonosa. This can both drain her powers and can possibly render her unconscious. She can also become so fat it's hard to fly, and the shapeshifting potion negates all other dragon powers for 48 hrs.

How easy it is, to cast blame, to judge, when you can't FEEL the Force in your EVERYTHING. All the time. Every moment of every day. Beautiful but cacophonous, like a symphony of screaming. Like staring at the sun and never going blind. It still hurts. But it's so... so bright. So Beautiful.

jayce vs. caitlyn: unpacking prejudice

i did a thing. disclaimer: i am not an anti. i like jayce. i like caitlyn. use my post for your anti bullshit and i will be very mad. >:( <- this will be me if you use this for anti character bullshit

um anyway it's kind of long you have been warned.

initial attitudes:

caitlyn: starts with fear and misunderstanding of zaun, but evolves to see the people there as victims of their circumstances and worthy of empathy.

jayce: begins with an elitist, dismissive view of zaunites, seeing them as dangerous, and even his intentions to help zaunites are primarily because he's focused on further progressing hextech.

actions towards zaunites (unfortunately, there's a large difference in the amount of times the two interact with zaunites in meaningful ways that teach us things about the way their deep-seated prejudices affect us, but i tried my best):

caitlyn: acts as an advocate for zaunites, trying to help vi and the people of zaun by using her position to get resources, often running into resistance from piltover's elite. she seems to genuinely care about zaunites as people and not simply another talking point.

jayce: focuses on advancing piltover's technological superiority. the majority of the positive things he says about zaun or wanting things to change for zaunites are tied to his dream for hextech. he focuses more on his accomplishments with hextech than he does about the actual zaunites.

growth and change:

caitlyn: shows significant character growth as she recognizes the struggles of zaun and begins to fight for a better future for both piltover and zaun.

jayce: struggles with his growing realization that his actions have harmed zaun, but remains largely entrenched in piltover's status quo, unsure of how to change it without jeopardizing his advancements with hextech.

caitlyn gradually shifts from viewing zaunites as criminals to understanding their suffering and seeking solutions, whereas jayce's perspective, though beginning with naivety and ignorance, starts to hint at moral doubt but remains heavily influenced by his position in piltover's power structures.

overall, their prejudice against zaunites manifests itself in ways that make complete sense when compared to who they are as characters.

caitlyn is a character who cares deeply about justice and helping people. it stands to reason that she would also care about bringing justice for zaun and not just piltover. she grows to care about the suffering zaunites face and advocates for them constantly. even after her attempts at peace are denied when it comes to jinx, she still cares for all of zaun as a whole. she slips into harmful rhetoric multiple times, but her ideals remain relatively steadfast.

jayce's story doesn't have as much connection to zaun and zaunites in general, which is why he has far less interaction with them. his interactions with zaun are centered around hextech, and because hextech is his primary focus, this means he often makes decisions that will harm zaunites. after his experience in the au, where he sees that hextech will destroy piltover if allowed to advance, he returns with the sole focus of destroying hextech. at this point, his prejudice takes a backseat along with most of his other traits from season 1.

caitlyn acknowledges that zaunites are just as capable of goodness as piltovans. vi talks about how topsiders hurt and judge zaunites and caitlyn genuinely listens to her and actively unpacks her own prejudice

I really like how you build the world, the surface your characters walk on. I understand this world, it is clear to us as readers what is happening and why. I could almost feel the intricacies and why Lily raised by Muggles behaves this way and she feel that way, James (not sure if that's intonation) has a cold aristocratic quality about him.

Flor and James' relationship surprises me. It doesn't go into a simple “bad wife therefore husband cheats on her” trope but just feels that constancy. Sometimes you can love someone, tie your life to them and not feel that cosmic connection.

Lily is just ... Sexy? I don't know why, but she seems like the kind of girl I'd go for wine with. Plus she has something about her that guys look up to - that aura of confidence, of self-respect.

James - he's an interesting character. I get the impression that he knows what he wants, he's surprisingly self-aware, arrogant but for some reason he has this huge need in him to be conventionally good. This guilt he feels about cheating on Flor doesn't come out of a place of genuine hurt and guilt that he's cheating on his wife the mother of his children but in my opinion from the fact that he thinks he should have guilt.

Lily and James - this relationship is like a cosmic attraction. It is also realistic I believe that they just can't help themselves. Everything is pulling them towards each other. The bit that Lily felt he was next to her she didn't even have to see him. It really touched me, I remember how I felt like that with my now fiancé.

Another thing I love about this story is that the chemistry between the characters flows from the content.

-Kakashi thinks it's a great idea up until Naruto sleep walks into his bed in search of warmth in nothing but a tank top and the smallest shorts known to mankind and makes himself at home. Naruto's a cuddler, too, but Kakashi loves it so much that he silently hopes every night that he'll wander in. Even if the guilt practically devours him alive.

-Konoha is on pause for missions, but Naruto will die if he doesn't keep busy. Kakashi wasn't trying to get a live-in maid or anything, but the homecooked meals every time he comes home make his heart flutter. Naruto's also is helping with the reconstruction, which means he comes home sweaty. It does NOT help. -Basically, Naruto moves in, never leaves, and accidentally seduces Kakashi by doing absolutely nothing but being himself. Kakashi is helplessly enamored by it. Title: No Time (Like The Present) Summary: Naruto reaches adulthood and it's like a switch flips. Whereas he had absolutely no interest in relationships before, suddenly all he can think about is being with someone. Couple this with the strange urge he's had to let Kakashi-sensei bite him, he's pretty sure he knows exactly who he's going for.

-Or: Naruto's animal hindbrain belatedly kicks online and suddenly he's desperate to find someone. He feels naturally drawn to people who ALSO have animal hindbrains, whether he realizes it or not. This narrows his options down to Kakashi or... Kiba.

-Obviously he's not choosing Kiba, ew. After coming to the astute conclusion that he wants Kakashi to bite his neck and pound him into a mattress, he starts to relentlessly pursue him in the bluntest way possible. Which is to say he marches up to him and boldly declares that they should fuck.

-Kakashi is flabbergasted, terrified, and also desperate because now that Naruto's mentioned it, he can't stop thinking about it. And Naruto also smells really good, and Kakashi's hands would be so big on his waist, and it would be amazing. But also wrong. But also... well, he'll only hold out against Naruto for so long anyway, I guess.

Title: Planetary Summary: After a seal gone wrong, Naruto thinks he got off without any consequences. The sudden wet dreams he keeps having about Kakashi-sensei are weird, but he kind of enjoys them a ton, so he doesn't mind. It never occurs to him that they might be real.

-Naruto blows a seal up and suddenly he and Kakashi have connected dreams. Neither of them realize that they're both cognizant, that the dreams are real, and they're both lucid. Kakashi thinks he's having the same old wet dreams he's been having for the past year. Naruto thinks it's a cool, neat new feature.

-Kakashi basically ravishes Naruto every night thinking none of it is real and that he's finally just gone off the deep end and is having insanely detailed dreams as a result. Tons of filth, but also a lot of desperate kissing, 'I love you's, and various desperate apologies. Naruto is slightly taken aback but enthusiastically there for the ride.

-Eventually, a few vague mentions make it click that hey, they're both experiencing this same thing. The tension is insane. Naruto wants to climb him like a tree. Kakashi is drowning in self-righteous guilt. You know the drill.

I WANT SOMEONE TO LOVE ME. I want someone to casually sit beside me and nudge me every now and then to get my attention. I want someone to pull me into a side-hug because they've been laughing about a joke of someone and want to share that joy with me. I want someone to carefully take my hand into theirs and look at my fingers or perhaps the lines on my hand just because they can. I want someone to look at me absentmindedly while they're thinking of something. I want someone to sit quietly beside me when I'm feeling down and just take my hand and squeeze it to tell me I'm not alone anymore.

Yay! Someone else falling into this rabbit hole! Just started on my own journey lol. Genuinely, I think if we could get answers on the clones, on the stuff like this where they just leave nuggets like this and dip, we'd end up with 10+ years of Star Wars content.

Most of this is gonna be personal musings on what I've tried to connect so far.

Firstly, definitely agree with anomalous-fox on the "why" being to make them more nationalistic and loyal by isolating them, similar to a degree to what Palps was doing with Anakin, as well as just looking at historical groups who indoctrinated Youths for their regimes. (I think the trainers would've seen it as more confirmation on the corruption of the Republic/Jedi. And who amongst the clones is going to question the Jedi knowing about their army if elite troopers are being trained on their doorstep?)

Personally, I'd wager Palps even curated the 501st specifically for Anakin to lead. Stick him in the middle of some of the most brainwashed troopers - sorry, sorry the most loyal and elitely trained - and slowly erode his boundaries on the slave army he's helping lead along with all the other horrors (because his boys are different. Slaves aren't made guards, unless you're waiting for them to shoot you in the back. And Anakin trusts his boys not to shoot him so are they really slaves? maybe palpatine is right).

As for where, no dice. I saw something about one of Coruscant's moons on one of the wikis (can't find it again tho in any of the CG entries or entries about the moons) and in the notes here; I haven't seen concrete references yet to back that. Nothing to disprove it either though. The two resources I found (Insider magazine, which I don't have, and the complete visual dictionary, which I do) don't list a specific place, or say much other than that they were "brought in secret to Coruscant." Which is so vague. I'm assuming either an older Republic facility was quietly repurposed/given new life (could be a cool idea if any Old Republic barracks were still around), or some of that Lower Levels or Outter Rim aid money conveniently was redirected into Coruscant's underworld for an unspecified "aid" project around the start of Palpatine's Chancellorship, building a facility that's deep enough it's not safe to question its presence if there are even enough people to see it. Palps could have even used the accounts left by Plagueis to fund an inconspicuous construction, if direct Senate funding seems too risky.

And Kaminoans don't appear to need too much adjustment environmentally, if at all. Maybe some humidifier rooms? I'm not sure what would convince them to leave Kamino. If not money, maybe research specimens/etc to quirk their scientific interests enough to put up with it. And the facility being in the polluted lower levels gives an extra excuse for no one to be outside to be seen.

Getting them all there seems like a basic smuggling question. If Dooku can sneak onto Coruscant in the middle of a war, when security should be on steroids, I feel like pre-war would be no different than average Coruscanti smuggling difficulty. Palpatine would have been Cancellor by the time any troopers would be getting transfered to Coruscant. (Maybe even visited to oversee progress. We know his cloak is as powerful as Clark Kent's glasses lol.) Combine that with whatever corrupt officials, black market/underground networks Palps already had, however much extra Chancellor-y powers he's weasled for himself by the time any clones are moved (if they're trained initially on Kamino and only moved for desired skills being displayed, since he was gathering more power even before the emergency powers/military creation act), and Coruscant's already healthy slave/trafficker network, there's probably a million ways for a few hundred shuttles with official codes/paid off air traffic security to steadily be bringing cadets into Coruscanti space without notice.

Overall, I think kaminoans wouldn't emphasize it because why would the location of their perfect soldiers and perfect training plans matter? It's all perfect. And the Jedi, who knows what they know or would be able to find in the training facility? If they even know it exists. It would have gone from 0 clones to 100,000 and counting within the span of a week. Would they really notice a few thousand that didn't show up with the rest, with all the death and chaos of one mission? Especially when the Guard don't seem to interact much with Jedi in their duties and the 501st could have been presented as just an elite group being incorporated into Kenobi's troops under Anakin, then they're assigned permanently once he's Knighted. Maybe eventually they take notice, while the Council has Shadows searching for leads on how the clone army was commissioned. Even if they did notice early on, I don't think they'd be able to question it initially.

Idk I think this is a really cool opportunity to fill in the blanks in a way that makes sense to you. And then share with the rest of us so we can all brainstorm. XD Hope this helped or at least gave you a few ideas!

Really hope they give us more clone-centric content tho. They're so cool, yet we know so little about them.

I have a genuine question about the 501st and the Coruscant guard. In Legends, The 501st and Corries were raised on Coruscant. Is there a specific facility they were kept? Did the Kaminonans just buy a building and put them there? Did Tyranus set up the amenities for the Kaminonans? Why is this mentioned off handedly? Why is Coruscant instead of Kamino? Why?

I occasionally wish to reach out to old friends/acquaintances I haven't spoken to since high school/some other even earlier time in my life, but I have SOOO little social energy even for required tasks (like making dr phone calls or etc), I never have any leftover for extra ones, and it would be very odd to message someone I haven't spoken to in like 5 years out of the blue but then take 4 entire months to respond back lol.. His ear gave a slight twitch as he turned his eyes back off to a far wall. A bit... embarrassed to be talking about this at all.

"You ask if it was broken. I don't know. Maybe it is. But it has always been that way. Such is why I have never once bothered to try to engage in this sort of thing with anyone else. It is hard to... try to justify it. Or explain it. And then there would be an intent to fix me." His nose wrinkled, clearly distraught by the notion.

"I do not want to be fixed in that way."

Alastor laid himself back against the pillows, resting an arm over his eyes to shield the slight bitterness in them - not at Michael. Just at the circumstance.

"I want things that my body does not immediately understand or recognize. It has always been that way and will always be that way. And to entirely write off a specific brand of intimacy just because of that is - frustrating."

His claws flexed slightly.

That is just the way that it is."

I sometimes feel like characters who do truly monstrous things while also having been victims of some pretty insane shit themselves are sort of an exercise in empathy. Or at least, should be seen as such.

Like, in real life, if a person who has been horribly broken by their experiences and failed by society than proceeds to rape someone - it's hard to feel the justifiable sympathy/empathy for that person (without excusing their rape, never do that) because well, you can look at this actual human person they hurt, or worse, and it feels gross and disrespectful to the rape victim.

And this is understandable. (And applies to more than just rapists/rape victims of course, that's just the most visceral one and thus picked for that reason)

But a fictional rape victim is... fictional. You can't 'disrespect' their trauma, and while obviously rape/whatever else is real, and people may related to the rape victim and thus see your comments about the rapist also being a victim as somehow being about their experience...

Well, it's not.

Because the rapist here, didn't actually hurt a real person. Fictional characters are objects. They're objects that often grab us by the throat and refuse to leave our fucking heads, yes, but they're objects. They are tools used by writers to tell a story, and readers to tell a story.

And one of the things fictional characters are good for is allowing us to consider experiences we never had, and imagine ourselves in other circumstances and lives. (Also just fun and fascinating and interesting to watch their stories).

It's very easy to feel for the rape victim in fiction, and rightly so. That's Level 1 Empathy there. Granted, some people IRL fail that, but that's not really what we're talking about here.

Advanced Empathy, hard Empathy is feeling for the rapist. Not for the rape, of course, even if they feel guilt about it, but if someone really was failed on multiple levels and was broken and damaged and went through the sort of psychological wringer that would leave most of us here on tumblr catatonic - they do deserve the same Empathy any human (any person) who went through all that.

Even after they also do the bad thing, critically they still deserve Empathy. And that is fucking hard. I very often have a hard time feeling bad for truly awful people who also deserve empathy and sympathy, real and even fictional (despite all this, yeah, I'm not perfect on this) for what they (separately) went through.

It also becomes even harder when what they went through is utterly bound up with what they did. How what they went through and experiences is in part responsible for what they did - because they still made a choice. The circumstances may have left them not in their right mind, may have left them feeling without choice, may have driven them to things they normally might not think of or do, but they still chose to do that bad thing. And that's not okay. They still hurt someone.

And yet - one cannot remove the action from the circumstances. So you can still feel empathy, and elucidate all the factors and circumstances as to what led up to their choices and why, and it doesn't change that they did the horrible thing. The rape, or the murders, or whatever.

But circling back - with a fictional character... they didn't hurt a real person. There's no one who is real that suffered. The things the character did IRL are bad because they hurt real people.

So you're not being disrespectful to the victim by feeling that empathy, or sympathy. By exploring the things that they were a victim for. Even by wanting to focus on those things - fictional characters should be compelling in all their aspects, if they're written well.

And yet, of course, if you do that empathy and do talk about what the bad person went through and all that context, people come at you. They call you evil, just as bad as the (again, fictional) character, or they say that you're treading dangerously close to the arguments people use to defend the real people who do these things in real life. Or you're disrespecting all the victims of these crimes IRL. Especially of course, if the person coming at you has a reason this comes close to home.

But again - fictional.

In an ideal world, we'd all feel sympathy and empathy when it's called for, regardless of what the person did. Even the worst most monstrous people deserve human treatment in prison. And if you don't have empathy, that's hard. Even if you do have empathy, that's hard.

So if you look at a fictional character (who doesn't hurt a real person by virtue of being fictional) that does horrible, vile things, but went through so much, and you still can't empathize or sympathize with them... I mean, it doesn't make you a bad person, not even close, this is still fiction, and there's people I should empathize with in fiction that I don't, but...

It's still a failure of your ability to be empathetic. And we're all humans. We're all failing at that, among other things, all the time. But... it's good to be aware of that. at least?

At the very least, bear that in mind when other people are talking about that context, and that victimization. And please, for the love of god, don't fucking pretend that the victimization didn't happen, that this person who did do terrible things (in fiction) suddenly didn't also (in fiction) experience awful shit, as if doing a bad thing erases all the bad things done to you.

Again - it doesn't necessarily make you a bad person, but like... the horrible state of prisons in our society is a real, actual problem. The way we as a society dehumanize people who do bad things is a real actual problem for a lot of reasons (not least because it creates an incentive for authority that wants to dehumanize a person or a group to expand the definition of 'did bad things' to make their dehumanization now acceptable, among other things).

So yeah. Fictional character who suffers but than also makes others suffer - that's a useful exercise in Empathy. And doing that doesn't make you or anyone else a bad person, or actually defending the sorts of crimes, IRL or Fictional, that this character did. Contextualizing is not whitewashing, empathy is not erasing, and humanizing is not disrespecting the victim(s).

So yeah, they fictional character did bad things. But there's more to them than that. And you can say but and talk about what comes after but without disrespecting the fictional victim. Because the fictional victim... is just as fictional. Just as not real.

Is it possible for this to end up being taken too far? Yes. But that's a reason to be mindful of yourself when it comes to real people, not to never do it. And when it comes to fictional people - again, fictional. Nobody was actually, really hurt.

(I really do want to make clear, before people read the tags, that this applies to all crimes these sorts of characters do, rape was just picked as the one to use as the example.)

i'm very interested what ppl find to be the harder shakespeare plays and which they found to be easier. bc i was googling out of curiosity and i found a sparknotes article (link if you're curious) that ranked ten of the most commonly-read plays on difficulty and it put king lear kinda down low whereas it put julius caesar pretty high because of the politics/complicated conflicts. that kind of baffled me because julius caesar was the first tragedy i read outside of the classroom and i found it very approachable; it's one i often recommend to people trying to get into shakespeare because the plot is already familiar to most ppl and you can just enjoy the poetry and how shakespeare chooses to characterize these figures. on the other hand i read king lear a few years later in my shakespeare journey, and to be honest i still kind of have a hard time with lear. maybe i just don't connect with it on some level; i'm not sure. it's not a very tightly-organized play where the action is as centered as in the other tragedies like hamlet or macbeth. that's certainly a me thing and maybe that'll change with age. but i'm always a little surprised when i find someone's experience with the plays so much different than mine.

I've been thinking about this for a while and deciding if this post NEEDS a dissenting opinion and why I felt it did. And I think ultimately my motivation is that like pagans are easy to pick on but have very little cultural cache to pick on anyone else. My husband is a pagan so I get a little frustrated with offhand dismissal of pagans. Especially because while there are legitimate critiques of neopagan practices and culture, neopaganism is also a belief that brings in a lot of dechurched folks who left because of the injustice of the institutional church and actual harm caused to them. So when we talk about Christian witches, we are often (although not always) talking about people who are not accepted or welcome in our churches. I have three points:

1) Magic is a more contradictory point in scripture than the individual verses on it sound.

Divination is forbidden, but they cast lots to decide land divisions and to find a new apostle. Although most normative Christian belief no longer engages in casting lots, the modern Coptic church cast lots to determine its pope. So one way of looking at the prohibition on magic could be that magic is directed at a power other than God. One of my professors last semester talked a little about his upcoming book which is about the definition of "magic" as just "practices that are unacceptable to us." Our glorious sacred rites vs their unholy magic, essentially. Sadly, the book isn't out yet and our class was on a different topic so I can't say more. But mainly I think this means there's room to disagree over what constitutes magic vs acceptable Christian practice.

I think the main distinguishing factor between un/acceptable practices should be this ask/answer, seek/receive framework you've provided.

2) I don't agree with the charge that witchcraft and paganism are about control.

This is a really common charge from Christians against pagans, but there's like two problems with it. First, there is no unified pagan dogma. My husband doesn't have a sense that his God has a will that needs to be followed outside of love, but other pagans do feel that they are subject to the will of their gods. And, crucially, magical practice DOES accept the answer no. As my husband says, every spell doesn't work every time. Spells that don't work are often assumed to not be "meant to be," just as we assume that prayers that aren't answered in the way we expect aren't meant to be.

3) I think the BEST way to restrain the use of witchcraft among Christians is to just simply bring people closer to God.

I think I stopped practicing witchcraft mainly because I didn't need it anymore. I KNOW that's why I stopped carrying crystals around or putting them near my bed, I just didn't need an item anymore to feel whatever feeling I was trying to get from it. (I also didn't use crystals for physical healing and again was very explicit about like "the rock is not magic, you're using the ability of your brain to create meaning and associations and that comes from God.) I think the same is probably true for tarot but stopping tarot also coincided with a long dry spell devoid of any belief or spiritual practice besides Sunday worship.

I think it may also be useful to note that this isn't really a "no longer" issue, the church has pretty much always struggled to stamp out magical practice. If it wants to, the key here again is to provide people with that which connects them to the culture and mysticism of Christianity, to the history of their traditions, and the spiritual practices that bring them closer to God.

I'm not endorsing the practice of Christian witchcraft; I literally cannot because I'm a candidate for ministry. But I understand why some people don't view it as unacceptable practice.

but we have a God who spent an excruciatingly long amount of time explaining to us how She wanted to be worshiped. part of worshiping a specific god of any sort in any pantheon is being aware of their preferences and desires - why is the way She wants us to worship Her no longer good enough? why do we need to look elsewhere? we are not supposed to divine, to use magic, to invoke without cause. there are rules. we should follow them.
