Books of 2024: GRAVEYARD SHIFT by M. L. Rio.

I really liked IF WE WERE VILLAINS back when it came out, so I was excited for the same author to do Creepy Fucked Up Fungus and Questionable Scientific Ethics: The Insomnia Book.

This was fun! Very short (my copy is only 108 pages), and it takes place over the course of one (1) sleepless night (which, coincidentally, is how I read it), but I enjoyed it for what it was. I've seen some people in reviews wishing it were longer, but I thought we got to know all the characters pretty well for a story that happens in less than 10 hours, and I had a good time.

#books of 2024 #graveyard shift #m.l. rio #books #book photos #i can recommend pounding coffee to get you through the wee hours but i canNOT recommend chainsmoking about it lol #i liked how all the characters had very different lives that led them to the same place on this academic campus every night!#and i liked their weird group dynamic too actually #and their distinct personalities--none of them felt like they WOULD know each other in daylight actually (except maybe tamar) but--#--i liked that a lot too #so yeah this was fun! not like earth shattering or anything but a good little graveyard romp with vaguely academic vibes #i am however a little grumpy at the pricepoint on the hardback given how it felt in my hands lmao #that's a me problem though and a capitalism problem XD #i wanted hardback because i have her other one hardback #i'm glad it's hardback but. the paper. was not gr8 #i'll have to dig VILLAINS out of storage and compare #FUNGUS FUN INSOMNIA NOT FUN BUT AT LEAST THEY HAD A GROUP PROJECT ABOUT IT #glad i put this on my nano adjacent list too it was Fitting XD
