My forever favorite explanation for this is from the novelization of Batman and Robin (1997), where Alfred hires Bruce a therapist who very blatantly thinks ten year old Bruce’s mental health is a lost cause, but Alfred entrusts Bruce to him anyway because he was besties with Thomas Wayne.
