PART 14

You didn’t remember the previous time you went through a portal, but this was magnificent. You thought of your home, how happy you will be when you get back. The look on your friend’s face, when she sees you again.

Your parents will ask you million questions, but you were not afraid to answer. Besides, you needed to find out a few things as well.

The light was bright, it felt like you were in a tunnel, but your vision seemed blurry.

You kept on walking towards, your hands reaching in front. You saw something and walked closer. You tried to catch it, but it seemed to vanish, when your fingertips touched it. And then you saw something, that wasn’t blurry, it was clear. It looked like a person. You just needed to touch it, and maybe it would help you pull through.

Your hand touched it. A person. A warm person. You put both of your hands on the person’s shoulders and went for it. The portal nearly spat you out, and you landed taking the person who helped you out together down with you, portal closing after you had left.

Your face was on the back of the person’s neck, you both groaning.

It felt familiar.

The person underneath moved, until it was on it’s back, facing you, and your body snuggled up to it. His. You were meant to say- your body snuggled up to his body.

Jimin.

-What the fuck!? – you shouted and bit your lip. -  What did you do?

-I didn’t do anything, - he stated, - looks like you were meant to come back to me, so there is no escaping now.

-No. There has to be a mistake, - you tried to move, but Jimin’s hands were holding you down.

-There is no mistake, but we can try again if you like, - Jimin offered.

-Where is the catch? Why can’t I get home!?

He stayed silent. He didn’t know it would actually work. You only had received one thing as a present from him, so this was a surprise. He smirked, and you looked up at him.

The fire was burning in his eyes.

-Well then Y/N, you are mine now, and the fact that you just left me, not even looking back and saying goodbye, makes it all even worse. Our wedding is next week, love, - he smiled again, even bigger grin, - I might be a forgivable person, but I won’t hesitate to make sure you know your place.

Here you were, thinking you got through to him with your tears. He was just being nice, so you wouldn’t go back. What about the conversations you just had? You thought he had changed, he was sorry for what he did, wasn’t he?

-Did you lie to me? – you asked.

-I wouldn’t lie now, would I? Trust me when in tell you this, I don’t want to hurt you, but if you misbehave, I will do it. As for the wedding night, be good girl, like you offered to be, and it won’t come to that, what you saw…

You just stopped crying but looked like you were about to cry again.

He let go of you, and once up from the ground, Jimin was gone. You turned around to look at the tree again, and it displayed the couples that had gotten married here.

You did not want that, and hell, you’ll make sure you won’t be one of those, ever.

Back inside the palace, you had something to eat, thanks to Dacia, who managed to keep you something from the day before. The kitchen staff didn’t really fancy anyone sneaking in their private space, but if you were meant to stay here, might as well make friends.

You hid in the library.

It still was a mess, but a little bit less mess.

Dacia found you again, later that day.

-Miss Y/N, Master wants you to accompany him for dinner.

-I decline, thank you Dacia, - you said and continued your work, stacking a pile of books with the same author on another side. You came across a book about the “sacred” tree, could it be it? You asked to yourself and left the book on the side.

-Miss, are you sure…? – she hesitated.

-Yes, Dacia, tell him I do not wish to have him as my company at all, nor I ever will.

So, the maid went and reported it all back to Jimin. You silently counted to three, knowing your words would wreak havoc.

You sat on the library floor looking through the pages of the book, a lot of images drawn on it’s pages, and also a lot of other information, only in this old type of language. You weren’t sure if you had understood it correctly, but the pictures displayed a lot, that you got to understand quite well.

The doors opened with a loud thud, meaning, there were no more doors left. All of a sudden, you actually felt stronger, as if you could stand on both feet and not be scared anymore.

Jimin did tell you that he likes you, the way he expressed his feelings for your relative, means he does care about you. But maybe if you make him extra angry, he wouldn’t want you anymore, therefore, you might get a chance to go home.

What is the point of him keeping you here for a loveless marriage? You will prove your point, and then you will go home.

-Why did you do that? – you asked in a monotone voice.

-You disobey me again; do I need to…- you shushed him.

-Listen, dude, - you say again, - I am not your plaything. You are keeping me against my will, and you do not have any power over me. So, as I said before, I don’t want your company when I eat, I would choke on my food and, while I am at it, your goodnight kiss is cancelled.

He stared at you. His eyes mesmerizing. His hands by his side, formed in fists.

-Listen you, little girl, - he looked like he was about to blow up.

-No, you listen, Park Jimin of Fae lands, you might rule this kingdom, but you are nothing to me, you tricked me, and you hurt me, so you might as well let me be.

His magic put you up in the air, you were flowing.

-Ok, then, I will see you, when I need you, - Jimin walked out, and you were left hanging.

-Hey! You cannot leave me like this!!!

-I can and I will, - he walked of.

-Hey! HEY!!!

One Punch Man 2

The story certainly made up the utter downgrade of its animation. If anything, I’d seriously stick with the manga if we’re talking good spectacle. (Grade: C+)

Care Bears: Unlock the Magic

I can say this is Turner’s answer to Hasbro’s My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic. The look of it is a plus and the episodes are on the same level of quality as MLP, but I had my doubts that this would get the same level of traction, especially since it’s Boomerang. It’s not bad, just not much to write home about. (Grade: C)

Uglydolls

An upbeat movie that I say didn’t deserve the disdain it received. Like yeah, it’s pretty by the numbers, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t entertaining in the slightest, and surprisingly heavy in its racial undertones if you’d believe me. (Grade: B-)

Avengers Endgame

Was certainly conclusive and fun, but inferior compared to Infinity War, especially when it unfortunately has to undo everything that happened in that movie. Not as many good memes from this as the interchangeable Thanos snap meme. (Grade: B)

Tuca & Bertie

Honestly a fun series that makes its cancellation just depressing to hear. The duo themselves made every episode enjoyable and while I wish certain plot points could’ve been better, the overall story arc with our MC’s friendship was very investing. In the least, the season ended on a good, optimistic note. (Grade: A-)

Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart

Essentially the Adventures of Puss in Boots, anime edition. Not to say that’s a bad thing, because there are plenty of differences, but come on, the similarities between the two leads and the premise are eeriely similar. As such, it gets the same grade (Grade: B+)

Shazam

A DC comic book movie that actually tries to be a comic book movie. Bonus points for the director being one that mostly made horror movies. (Grade: A-)

Scooby Doo and Guess Who?

Scooby Doo and self humor doesn’t sit well with me since the fun came in taking its campy nature straightfaced while having some good sitcom laughs, i.e. Monsters Unleashed, Mystery Incorporated, or Be Cool, Scooby Doo. The celebrity guests are almost always a highlight, but they also admittedly take away from the characters we’re meant to see. (Grade: B-)

Archer 1999

Finally, a season of Archer that has everyone together doing space adventures, and it’s not the final season! (Grade: B+)

Dick Pikachu

Lovely to look at, not so much in remembering it. It has the same grade I gave the game it’s based on. (Grade: C+)

Gokushufudou: The Way of the House Husband

The most perfect yakuza based slice of life comic around. (Grade: S)

Burning Effect

I honestly haven’t seen a webcomic that went this hard before. It’s like Bakugo from My Hero Academia went into every character design and impacting visual, with a story and premise that gradually makes sense the more you carry on and a female lead that is a upcoming warrior in every sense. (Grade: A)

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

There’s a Youtube channel that reviews this show episode by episode and I found them more insightful and entertaining than this series. A shame since I like the original She-Ra and I was hoping for a good series about princesses fighting. But this series was slog to get through and it doesn’t help that my attachment to most of the characters has fizzled out. Season 3 certainly picked things up, but it shouldn’t have took this long to pick things up. (Grade: C+)

The Secret Life of Pets 2

Just as good as the first one, if not better, which I bet many who reviewed this will probably say otherwise. The scene near the end is honestly cemented in my mind, it just worked. (Grade: B-)

SMG4, The Anime Arc

This definitely fun. A middling 1st half, but things definitely pick up in the 2nd half. There are some contrivances and conveniences, but man was that the most engaged I’ve ever been with this Youtube series overall. (Grade: B+)

Aladdin (2019)

Oh wow, another remake that pales in comparison to the original. A takeaway from all this is Disney needs to hire directors that aren’t boring. (Grade: D+)

MIB: International

Oh wow, it’s Jurassic World: Men In Black edition with two great actors that are heavily underutilized in it. Where’s Taika when you need him? (Grade: C-)

Lion King (2019)

Oh wow, a remake that doesn’t understand why the original worked. This here was honestly the final straw for me as I am distancing myself from these remakes because unless one actually looks and feels appealing, my sensible bias towards them will never change. I feel annoyed that I DON’T know what people see in these. (Grade: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!)

DC Super Hero Girls

Honestly what I wanted Nu She-Ra to be, better animated, better characterized, and reminds me of the new Ninja Turtles series with how it is setting things up. As a DC fan, I am more than impressed. (Grade: A)

X-Men, Dark Phoenix

They honestly weren’t trying and this movie resulted in me getting Ligma. (Grade: D+)

Our Cartoon President

We had our laughs a couple years ago, but let’s be real. Trump is a dried up meme and there was no reason for a 2nd season of this. (Grade: F+)

Final Space

Season 2 has its hits and misses but I am very much enjoying this series still. The latest episode deep down made me wish it didn’t try to make things drama heavy for the previous episodes, like it’s trying to recapture the sharp turn that was season one’s episode six. Needless to say, they’re certainly keeping the momentum going for this series and I’m all for it. (Grade: B+)

Aero (Comic series)

Imagine if Nejire from My Hero Academia was a Marvel superhero. The dialogue and writing is generic and simple, but you not only get a nice grasp of our heroine but this is one of the first anime looking Marvel comics that looks incredible. This really stood out at my comic shop and I am very intrigued to see more of this character and this artwork. (Grade: B)

Infinity Train

Very compelling, nicely visualized, and the 10 episode work to a good strength of pacing. Though I will be honest, One-One wasn’t a character that stood out to me, I dunno, I felt distant towards him compared to the other characters. But I enjoyed this no doubt and I’m glad there is more to come. (Grade: ???)

Twelve Forever

This is one of those rare shows where I’ll gladly say it’s good but not entertaining. As much as I enjoy randomness every now and then, I felt bored watching it. The Butt Witch was the saving grace, immediately being my favorite character, but she wasn’t enough to make me keep going. I’ll give it a good grade tho with the effort they put into everything. (Grade: B)

Rocko’s Modern Life, Static Cling

I already reviewed this before, but I honestly considered this a great comeback to a very nostalgic and influential show. (Grade: A)

Meta Runner

A new series with surprisingly good pacing and a empathetically great main character. The dialogue can be give and take, with a villain that’s honestly too evil for his own good, but I can’t help but say that this is an engaging series. And it’s youtube sooo bonus. (Grade: B+)

Amphibia

A series that definitely got better as it went along. I like the episodes that had good ties to the season’s climax, the main four are especially the highlight with their personalities, and the character growth felt natural if on the nose sometimes. I’m stoked for part 2,,, hopefully they schedule it better. (Grade: A-)

Angry Birds 2

It was fun. Probably forgettable to many, but I won’t deny that it’s one of the better popcorn flics of the Summer (Grade: B+)

Toy Story 4

I grown tired of people questioning whether or not this movie was pointless, so I’ll come out the gate to say that this is the best movie of the Summer so far. It was a more solemn movie that was organically thoughtful with itself, there were plenty of laughs, I loved Bo Peep, and the way they handled the antagonist is something that rocked the franchise’s themes to the core sensibly. This film makes for one of the few times a fourth sequel can actually come out great. (Grade: A)

T I M E’S U P ! ! ! ! ! !

Welp, looks like the spring and summer have indeed strengthened itself for the better. Can the latter half of 2019 keep the momentum as we reach the new decade? Stay tuned.

Welcomed back everyone to another installment of Irina wines about her one-sided feud with her local UPS. I have put quite a few Loot Anime posts out lately because I have been receiving my boxes rather sporadically. As I mentioned in my October box review, I almost missed out on it all together because UPS delivered it *somewhere* and when I followed up with them, they, to my face, informed me I had moved. The delivery was mildly smoother this time around. First, you should know that I live in what is essentially a high-rise building with individual unit postal boxes for mail and a large postal locker for packages. UPS leaves my Loot Anime boxes in that locker one time out of two and it’s fantastic. I just pick them up and everyone’s happy.

For completely unknown reasons however, they also refuse to leave them in that locker half the time and stick a “we couldn’t deliver” notice on my mail box instead. This is tricky because they only attempt delivery once and refuse redelivery and I them have to pick it up within 5 days from the UPS counter. It may not sound that unreasonable, but their UPS counter is only opened from 10am to 6pm workdays. So, for me to pick up a package I have to leave early from work. I am lucky enough to have a job where I can come and go pretty liberally but it’s still a hassle and in my opinion completely unreasonable, every single time I get a package. If I cancel my subscription it will be in most part because the delivery is just too much trouble.

I hope you enjoyed this post on the failing of international carriers. I know it doesn’t have much to do with anime so I’ll make sure to.. oh yeah, the crate.

The first thing that caught my eye here was that bunched up thrown in t-shirt. You could be fooled into thinking I had packed these myself. It’s a bit disappointing since they’re usually so neat but hardly the worst I have ever received.

Poster

No phone charm this time. Weirdly I was a little let down.

As you can see, this month’s poster is quite pretty. I’m a sucker for those bright colours and cute design. The featured artist is Xeph and you can see more of their work at Collateral Damage Studios .

Batman and the Justice League Art Sheet

A second smaller poster was included and is meant as a companion piece to the manga. It’s a nice poster but I’m a little limited on wall space, I have a LOT of art. Maybe I’ll do a virtual tour some day. I have some gorgeous Natsume and Okami paintings some of you may like. In any case, this particular poster isn’t going to be hanging up there, but I can’t actually find any fault with it.

It’s pretty and high quality. The single careful fold at the center will probably be barely noticeable if put in a nice frame. I’m just not a huge fan of the DC universe.

Batman and the Justice League Manga

The is a loot anime exclusive print of Shiori Teshirogi’s Batman and Justice League. It is in fact a very nice book. The actual manga is only black and white but very high quality and the heavily Americanized manga art is a blend of East meets West in the superhuman genre. I wager that if you are a fan of either the DC Universe or Saint Seiya, you will be very excited by this item.

Unfortunately, I am not. I can plainly see the quality of the book, but I really would not have bought this individually. I haven’t read it, so it may turn out to be the best manga ever made. The official plot synopsis is:

The manga is titled Batman and Justice League, and features Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern, and Aquaman. The story will feature the Justice League heading to Gotham City to protect the world from the Joker and an alliance of super-villains.

From flipping through the book, I can see that the narrative seems to follow an ordinary student who gets wrapped up in the story. I’m assuming that’s why it was included in the box because I wouldn’t qualify any of those characters up there as “underdogs”. I understand that the monthly themes have always been loose suggestions at best, a simple marketing tool to advertise individual boxes more effectively, but they could have just called this month “superhero” and it would have felt much more accurate. Was it not animeish enough? Maybe they had already used that one. Just saying that anime features a TON of underdogs that seem better suited to the title than Batman.

Black Clover Shirt

I haven’t seen Black Clover yet. I have seen lots of images from the show and have read a lot of your reviews. Apparently, it gets loud. It’s like the show itself is an underdog so I appreciate that. I have absolutely no idea why, but I have a soft spot for it (sight unseen) and I am looking forward to starting it soon.

Fact about me, I love T-shirts. I collect them even though I have to wear suits at work and live in a country covered in snow half the year. I think they are close to the perfect garment. But a good t-shirt is very hard to find. I’m a short and generally petit girl with an hourglass figure. I can’t pull off boxy men’s t-shirts unless they are made with a very flimsy material that will drape over me and generally just follow my natural outline. Anything else looks ridiculous and adds 20 lbs on me. One of the biggest draws I had towards loot anime was the fact that they frequently sent out apparel and you could choose women’s small as a size. Finally, anime t-shirts that would fit me! I was so excited. Ironically this is the first one I’ve received.

It’s not a women’s small. The actual size isn’t on the t-shirt anywhere but I’m willing to bet it’s a unisex small which let’s face it just means men’s small. It’s not too big on the shoulders but it’s cut perfectly straight which means that is you have any kind of waistline it will appear to bulge out at the stomach making for a particularly unflattering figure. I am not too big so it’s not tight on any level but if you happen to be more hippy, I bet it will be too tight at that point. The fit was a huge disappointment.

On the other hand, the print is nice, I might eventually just cut is out and use it as a patch. The material is wonderful. Very soft and comfortable. Sadly, no matter how I styled it, it remains one of the least flattering things I have ever worn and has already been relegated to sleep wear. I already have more sleep t-shirts than I know what to do with. I’m a little sad guys.

Saint Seiya Hat

If the T-shirt was ill-fitting, the hat simply doesn’t fit at all. I’m not sure who thought a person who wears a women’s small would also have a head big enough for this snapback. It’s a nice hat though. Some people are all about a snapback. I wear them a lot when walking buddy.

I’ve never seen Saint Seiya and it seems unlikely I ever will. Not throwing shade or anything, I’ve actually heard great things about it and had I taken it up a little earlier I think it would have been exactly my cup of tea. However, it’s an older series with episodes in the three digits and I have so much anime to catch up on already…

What I’m saying is this hat really does nothing for me.

I’m not gonna lie, so far it was a rather disappointing box. A first clear miss and then:

My Hero Academia 6.5” Deku Figure

When the December box was announced I decided to keep only because of the inclusion of My Hero Academia. I said at the time that I was hoping it would be the big-ticket item… Guys it’s Deku – Deku’s on my desk!

I love this piece. It’s beautiful and detailed. It features Deku’s superhero outfit with those vibrant Christmasy colours (was that on purpose) That piece around his neck is actually loose and you can position it however you want.

In terms of detailing, it may be a bit plainer than previous figures. Not because the item itself is low quality, I mean look at those adorable freckles, but simply because Deku has a much cleaner design than Madoka or Josuke. However, everything from the pose, to the facial expression, to the size, are just perfect. Yes, I am biased. I love both MHA in general and Midoriya in particular but it’s also a wonderful figure. I would have happily paid the price of the box for it. Let me just add in one of the official shots because I want to do it proper justice:

What can I look forward to maybe receiving if it doesn’t get lost in shipping next month? The announced theme is: GAME ON!

So no NGNL, no KonoSuba, no Hack, no SAO, no isekai at all (?) You can argue that IIWTPPGIAD (love that title) is a bit of DnD in anime form but with so many shows that have a stated premise of blurring the lines this seems like a way to get rid of inventory they couldn’t fit elsewhere. Not complaining mind you. Aside from Sonic, these are all franchise I really like. If it was up to me, I would try to make Steins:Gate fit into every single theme ever! You bet I’m keeping this box. 

On a different note, I have been enjoying the boxes quite a bit, but I do find that I get items that are just wasted on me. A good friend of mine was interested in the manga so that was put to good use. However, it just occurred to me that some of you may be interested in these items. Like that baseball cap for instance. Accordingly, I have spontaneously decided that the best possible option would be to start holding some giveaways.

I’m still working out the details on exactly “how” to proceed (individual items or hauls, through twitter or through the blog…) If you have suggestions I’m all ears. I know most people use them to celebrate milestones. I get a little impatient with presents – I’m the idiot that gives you your birthday present a month in advance *cause it’s just sooo perfect* and then has to scramble to get something lese for the actual day *cause it’s your birthday*. I’m not sure I can stick it out until another significant milestone comes around. I thought of potentially working them in with posts if ever I have merch that is somehow relevant to what I happen to be writing about. Like I said, it’s a work in progress….

I’ll figure something out
