When I did the companion meme for Jackal, I kept her amnesia and grudge against Benny because it’s what made her ‘Jackal’ rather than someone else. For this, I’m going to write it as her avoiding Benny completely. No brain damage here, just REGRET!

Biographical

1. Would their name remain the same?

Nope! Jackal’s real name is Jade Maria (haha like the gun) Black. After waking up with no memory of who she was, one of her only possessions was an old revolver with her name carved into it. The grip was so weathered that she could only make out the letters JA__CK. She went by “Jack” until she met Vulpes in Nipton. Not wanting to give him her ‘real’ name, she said “Jackal”, as she’d heard of him going by “Mr. Fox”. The name stuck (that’s right, you have Vulpes to thank for it... gross). 

2. What about their family?

Her parents would both still be dead as they’d passed away years earlier, but her twin brother, Jace, would still be alive and wishing she’d write him a damn letter.

3. Where would they come from?

Jade grew up on a ranch in rural southern California, but she left home when she was 19 and has been on the move ever since. She’s traveled just about everywhere this side of the Colorado. A majority of her courier jobs still come from NCR territory, so that’s likely where she’s coming from.

4. Do they look any different?

No scar in the center of her forehead, and none of the surgical scars from the Big Empty. Jackal also has four playing cards tattooed on the back of her left shoulder that she gets throughout her journey as Courier Six — if that never happened, she would only have the first one (the ace of spades).

Occupation

1. Are their skills the same?

Jade was always a good shot, and most of her skills were learned from her parents, so it would almost be the same. The only difference is that she wouldn’t be good at sniping (Boone) or have as much experience fixing things (Raul and Veronica). 

2. What do they do?

She’d still be a courier. If deliveries fell through due to the state of the Mojave, she’d likely turn to other odd jobs like she had in the past. Caravan guard, bounty hunter, bandit, conman, mercenary — if it paid well enough and wasn’t too morally repugnant, Jade would take it.

3. Are they in the same area of expertise as they are in canon?

This would actually be pretty similar. Jade has always been good at bluffing, smooth-talking, and reading other people. If she had the free time, she’d probably end up doing pretty well at the Strip’s casinos. Rather than trying to broker any grand diplomatic deals, however, she’d probably just be trying to get a good deal on ammunition.

4. Are their achievements similar?

Absolutely not. Jade isn’t a hero, and has no intention of being one. Helping large groups of people or performing impossible feats isn’t in the cards. She’s just a drifter trying to survive, though that doesn’t mean she has a problem with putting a few bullets into any legionaries or raiders who cross her path.

Personal

1. a)  Would they meet or befriend/fall in love with the people they do in your canon?

It’s tough to say for sure. The only way she’d cross paths with most of her companions was if she had a delivery for that location, or she had some free time to hang around.

She’d almost certainly end up fixing ED-E when she visited the Mojave Express in Primm. It’s likely that she’d run into Cass, Veronica, and Arcade on her trip, but she probably wouldn’t stick around long enough to befriend them.

Jade is nosy and persistent enough that if the stars aligned for her to visit Novac, she probably would end up befriending and falling in love with Boone, but the chances are pretty damn slim. Which is a bummer :( (queue back to the future sequence where her and Boone’s future kids have to go back in time and make sure their parents meet lol).

b) If the answer is no, what do you think happens to those people in a world without your OC in their canon role?

Honestly, for everyone except Boone, their lives would probably be better off without Jackal in it, at least in terms of how often they almost died while traveling with her.

The Courier certainly has a big say in it. How Cass handles her caravan, whether Veronica leaves the Brotherhood, etc. — it’s up to them. But even if they helped Boone reconcile with himself, it’s doubtful that he’d be as happy as he is when he ends up with Jackal. Not that she erases all his problems... but she helps.

2. Would they be happier? Is life easier, or harder?

Amnesia is a blessing and a curse. The Goodsprings incident left Jackal with migraines, nightmares, and a struggle to figure out who she is/was. But she also forgot about a lot of things that she’d been carrying around for years. Things that weighed her down with regret. They catch up with her eventually, amnesia or not, but it bothers her less than it did before she was shot.

Jade’s past is the story of her running out on every good thing she’s ever had; her mom, her brother, and her lover, all of whom she believes would’ve been better off if she’d just stayed (even though at the time, she thought the opposite). Because she remembers her parents so well, she also feels as if she is dishonoring them by being such an amoral person. It’s also unlikely that she’d meet Boone, have a family of her own, or ever find a place where she felt she could truly stay.

TL;DR: Jackal has migraines, nightmares, and a crippling sense of loneliness. Jade has a lot of regret, guilt, and would probably never meet Boone. Both struggle with feeling the urge to run away even when things are good.

Jade’s life would certainly be easier, though she wouldn’t end up as happy in the long run. She’d be content enough — nothing more, nothing less.

3. What would they think of the person who has their role as player character? Depends on the choices that Courier Six made. Jade really wouldn’t have a problem with them unless they sided with the Legion, though she would certainly prefer that they made New Vegas independent. She doesn’t care for House, but she tolerates the NCR more than she normally does out of respect for her father.

Independent: Respects, maybe even admires them. Would buy them a drink. Might even offer a hand, if they’re lucky (or unlucky, depending on who you ask).

House: Thinks they’re unable to think for themselves, but would assume that the job paid well, which is motivation enough. Finds them boring more than anything else. There is nothing exciting about maintaining the status quo.

NCR: Mixed feelings. Understands the appeal of the order that the NCR brings and respects that they’re at least keeping the Legion away. Would probably call them a bootlicker behind their back, though.

Legion: Hates their guts. Would shoot them on sight if she recognized them but also wouldn’t go out of her way to track them down; she knows when she’s outmatched.

So I keep remembering sitting behind a white propane tank. A big above ground in an abandoned lot.

Oh

Our trailer, empty, Heather's then 2 empty lots. 

And the grass was real long and we would play in the last lot because Tony and Billy dad said it wss empty and unhooked it.

Tony would sit there and sell drugs while watching us, like men bring their kids to play with us and sell.

So Jesse would walk down the street and Tony would tell us to hide.

He said "let's play a game real quick, should i sell to him?"

And always seemed the sun was shining. The first time so bright I couldn't see him but i had a really bad sharp pain in my heart like stabbing. And heaviness.

So Tony grabbed me up and rushed me to the house. Cause i fainted.

So I would get scared on Jeremiah's side after that..

When i recognize someone or have interaction i typically have no guard. So I would recognized Jesse if I saw him the first time that's why I couldn't.

So after that Tony had the other two kids hide in case I fainted cause I did one time, hitting my head on the tank then throwing up..

Tony would tell him he was sold out, so i told him sell him a tiny bag, cause he would act desperate. He said dime? But he only had a quarter and I said no smaller. Nickel? I said just a tiny piece of the corner bag. So he rolled him a joint.

The 5th time i went and gave him 2... One and a half really. One good and one penny mostly paper

And he got mad for the second joint being short of weed but Tony said he didn't pay anyway. But not to him,

And so I just looked at him and took two normal steps then hauled ass to Tony. And i said "he looked mad, ready to kill. He didn't like the tiny one but that was the one he smoked first"

I would get cold. Always felt like the sun was going down although it would be noon and sunny and bright.

And usually i would faint.

Annabelle did tht with Telles when we first moved to 511. Just the thought of him coming home would cause her cold sweats and fainting. (He's going to Pluto with Jesse too)

So that's all i remember of that.

But I remember the fear and telling Tony no drugs for him.

And i would tell him "give him mine" which was just a corner piece of the plastic.

So we all caught on and protected Tony by giving him ours or not. Which was just corner like one knuckle in. We would tear it off ourselves.

Heather would let her dad do it.

But then like 5 times he would sit behind the propane tank to listen in to our conversation but one of us would see. And tell. One day I was all talking how i really feel. And I said "he makes me sick and I don't like him".

So Jesse came around and said he wanted a whole quarter for what we had said. Because we all told the truth.

So i was all throwing up and Tony tossed it to Matt and said "if you can, beat it out those kids!" And we all took off running. 

Tony carrying me so I started laughing and threw my head back cause Matt was jumping and running and talking shit.

And I saw Jesse have Heather and put her down take off her shirt, I yelled hey!!!" So he picked her up and start running with her again, I was about to vomit again So I started holding my puke with my hand over my mouth and swallowing and pointing and all and Tony said we are almost there, and Jesse put Heather down and took off her jean shorts with a struggle. So I wiggled and yelled "PUT. ME. DOWN!!"

And jumped on his right foot. Then I ran to Heather and Tony was all "I'm covered in puke!"

"Come on," but before i could finish Tony ran past me and Jesse was on the ground "i need... Help?" I finished Matt was aside me and I asked "do we need a mom?" But Tony waltzed past with a naked Heather in one arm and i said "she looks so cute, like she just had a bath!"

"But she's in panties, thank God for that" replied Tony

"But why are panties such a big deal?"

"Cause i know he didn't molest her"

"But can't he do it through the clothes?"

"Don't tell me that. I can't believe he picked her up. I told him never touch my kid or any of you. I knew i should not have trust him. Now what's he doing? Sabrina."

"Idk I'm looking. Hes looking too in pockets. I'll stay here"

"Alright, let me know if you need me, hey Sabrina are you alright? You puked. I know it. All over me. Don't you dare laugh. Hey since you're in such a good mood why don't you get some grass and hold it Like in your pocket and try to tease him. I want to see if he will touch you"

I didn't know what he meant but Matt pulled up some grass out of the ground and handed it to me and motioned how ti hide it.

When Jesse came he handed me the clothes and said "I don't know. Im sorry. I don't know what I was thinking"

"Yeah okay. I got the grass!" I grabbe the clothes and shoved the grass into the clothes.

I turned to run and saw a hand reach past my face, really the biggest hand I ever seen. It was scary, really.

And he snatched the clothes from me and Heather screamed blood curdling and "don't let him get me!" But Tony said "tell him not to get me" "Don't get my dad" "no not me you, not my dad" "but i don't want him to get you" "say my name is Heather don't you get me you old fool!" Heather laughed and laughed.

Jesse stopped puzzled, looked at me and pointed at them like "are they for real?" But voiced nothing

And i said "GIVE ME THE CLOTHES" and tried to get them but he held on and dangled me until i dropped and he looked in the clothes.

"But this is grass"

And i looked at him steaming mad cause my nail broke and the paint chipped and he said "but this is just grass. Here like I said, I'm sorry, I was just checking for the weed. You know I am kinda a phene"

"Yeah well you need to pay! Are you a cop?"

"No he's just a stupid idiot!!" I already had the clothes and started whipping him in the arms and face and chest and he was bewildered and so i started kicking him "AND DONT YOU TOUCH MY SISTER!!" screaming it over and over and whipping him with the clothes and my empty slapping hand and kicking him when I could.

He really tried to stay upright but he was not liking it and so he tried to grab the clothes and when he did i let go. But Tony reminded him he was watching and so were all the moms and one had a corded phone talking to the neighbors, Susie, pretending it was the cops.

Jesse hung around until dark hoping on some weed but he never got his own. But Tony shared a joint with him.

Tony woke the next day, "we have a cop in our midst and he's a bad one"

Jesse killed him some weeks later and my twin brother's and regular brothers and my mom. Heather wasn't a blood sister but we had to treat her as one and protect and love her as much as we protected ourselves.

He killed our mom Because he thought it really was our job to sell and he didn't want to split the money. And because...

He also never found out the drugs came from Juarez. Because he was from California, he assumed they were from Tijuana. As Tony only said he went "to the border and back" and the truck was registered in California as a cover since it was from Texas. And they would claim Tony as innocent because they would say the California company would do the pick up and then Tony would trade off in Texas and bring home. Then he would drop off the trailer, usually at Kmart then take just the cab home which had most the drugs and would deliver them to the main warehouse then come home.

Since the California company didn't exist, but the phone number was valid in California, they would give the cops the run around.

Which we found out after Jesse killed Tony because my dad called and turned him in cause he brought in crack and meth and marijuana and sold to little 6 year old kids like me. And the entire neighborhood and started breaking into houses and all sorts of shit..

Tony only sold hemp (CBD). Just like marijuana but not. At half price of marijuana or gave it away to like Ms Leena, the elderly whom had pain and likely really needed it.

And so if my dad was home, Jesse got busted with a new load. But if my dad wasn't, no one got busted as my dad was in ship duty and was in and out a month at a time and Jesse figured it out and raped repeatedly then killed my mom.

He killed Tony Raul in a blood bath along with his own girlfriend in Heather's house, had her mom tied to the bed for rape and i stayed there to ask him not to kill her until he promised and i called the number on the side of the truck like Heathers mom said to and said "hey! I need a job?! You got one!! You know, Tony is dead and i really need to fill his spot" and put Jesse on the phone when she said "You mean, Raul?"

"Yeah yeah that's the one"

I was only 6 years old.

I hate him and i am glad he's dead and I would do it again, too.
