How-to: Rate your OCs based on how they handle cuddling/being cuddled.
Guinevere Cousland - 4/10
During the Blight, Gwen wasn’t very big on hugging. Ever since Howe’s betrayal, she’s kept herself to herself. Howe’s attack leaves any trust she had shattered, with her disliking hugging as it makes her vulnerable—the close proximity could allow someone to harm her. After the Blight, her walls come down slowly as she unwinds. Alistair benefits the most from her new-found trust. The King and Queen-consort are often seen walking together in the corridors of the palace, his arm around her waist.
Likewise, Gwen initially did not enjoy being cuddled. On top of the previous sense of vulnerability, being cuddled came with a loss on control that Gwen hated. Gwen needed to be in control of everything—including who touched her and when. As her trust for her companions increases, she finds she enjoys physical touch from them more. To the point that she begins to seek out hugs when she needs them, with Alistair in particular being a good source of physical contact.
Artemis Hawke - 7/10
Artemis loves giving hugs. If someone is in her arms, then they are where Artemis wants them: with her and out of harm’s way. With the loss of each family member, Artemis clings to her remaining ones tighter, as if she can stop them being ripped from her if she just holds on tight enough. She also despises seeing her loved ones upset or in pain, so hugs are her way of comforting them.
Though, she is less keen on being hugged. Like Gwen, she likes to be the one in control of herself—and being within hugging distance also puts her within range of a dagger. Being hugged requires a level of vulnerability that she just cannot allow. Though, she will accept hugs from those she truly trusts, such as Sebastian after the death of her mother.
Caelia Lavellan - 9/10
Caelia adores giving hugs. As a healer, her healing spells are most easily cast through physical contact. Therefore, to Caelia, touch means healing. Even if there is no magic behind it, she will hold her loved ones all the same. When Cullen is suffering through his lyrium withdrawls, Caelia will insist on holding him if declines a potion or a healing spell. It will make you feel better, she insists. She is right, but Cullen is loathe to admit it.
Likewise, Caelia adores being held. As a girl, her family held her whenever she needed comfort. A nightmare, a spider crawling on the aravel wall—all would send her into the arms of her parents. And though she is a girl no longer, she still seeks out touch all the same. When she can, she enjoys sitting with Cullen before a fire. It allows her to be herself, even for a moment.
