I only know the Hunger Games through osmosis but I love your AU. <3 Anakin being Vaderkin is fantastic but if Obi-Wan is a former winner, I'm suspecting he's less of a cinnamon roll than he appears. I mean he's still Good(TM) because he's Obi-Wan Kenobi but I have a sneaking suspicion that he's less horrified by killing for love than one would guess.
ok but like im picturing obi-wan's games as being him being very peace-making at the start, known for his wry tongue, probably convinced someone into giving him a share of their rations.....but like every kill he made was literally a brawl fight where he beat them to death and it's bloody and inconceivable and probably only happened a few times, notably when numa, his child ally he took in to protect her aka the baby twi'lek from tcw, is killed and he snaps and kills her killer (ignoring the weapon he has on his belt and just using his fists)
and then when it's just him and someone else, they're fighting and he's wounded and he wants to survive---he has a girlfriend at home in his district, he has a father, he has a favorite meal he wants to eat again, he does not want to die yet, he will not die yet---so he again just kills them bloodily and messily and he forgets to stop until a few minutes after the announcer has already crowned him victor
and when he goes home his father won't look him in the eyes and his girlfriend is disgusted with him for fighting at all (even though she's never been in that position)
so he knows what it's like to do monstrous things in the arena in the name of someone else or even in the name of love, and he's ready to hold anakin through all types of nightmares and tears and regrets
he's only a bit surprised when there are none.
