I have been seriously gnawing on the idea of Earthspark Megatron's backstory including the mnemosurgery detail that mtmte has, and him having such a fucking reaction to the evens of the s1 finale because the humans are (unknowingly) replicating one of the greatest horrors of pre-war Cybertron, one step at a time.

He thought he would never have to deal with that again, that he had healed from the trauma but now his metaphorical mostly healed over scars are being ripped open. It does not help that he was almost forced to kill Twitch and Thrash, his family.
