Tumblr adding polls was the greatest thing they've done in the last 6 years and the fact that I'm not making polls is a sign of my restraint.

For those of you jumping in new to the game, here's a lolita meme from 2011 that I'm doing. Original here, mine are tagged "20dollarlolita 30daylorlolita challenge". I meant to save the last one as a draft but it posted incomplete and I"m just going to live with that forever, I guess.

Random Lolita' 2011 30 day challenge, day 5: 10 things from your wish list:

When I got Typewriting Squirrles and Tailor Bear, I completed my wishlist, so this was a little bit tougher. Here goes.

#1) More embroidered pieces! Ever since getting into machine embroidery last year, I've been super into things that are embroidered. I love edge-to-edge embroidery and I love looking at how things are digitized, so I want way more stuff with embroidery instead of printing.

#2) More musical things! As y'all may know, I collect keytars, so I want much more musical print lolita. I have Bodyline's piano cats JSK and it's awakened a need for me. I want Meow Meow symphony and I want all the other cat pianos.

#3) More diverse fabrics. I got AP's Gloria skirt for cheap since it's missing the overskirt, and it's velveteen with glitter on it. I want more different textures and fabric types.

#4) More fully shirred things! When I bought that mystery bundle on Etsy, that had Bodyline's Love Nadia in it. That's a fully shirred cap sleeve OP/JSK and again, turns out that I like being comfy. When I started lolita I had two fully shirred pieces and I got rid of both of them (one I regret. One I am glad I returned to the original owner because it was a gift to them from a family member who died, but also I wish I still had it in my wardrobe).

#5) More handmade things! Really, I need to make more OPs and blouses. I need to just do the fiddly things. I have 12 yards of white shirting and a ton of patterns and I just need to do the things.

#6) I have three pairs of printed tights and I wear them all the time so why don't I just get more printed tights? Plus size 45-kitten-holder tights are on ebay for like $25 a pair, and that's where I got the ones that I have, so what's stopping me from getting more?

#7) Okay so i don't know if this counts but I want to get lolita dresses for my creepy doll Helena so that I can carry her around and have her match me. I've seen people do this and it looks super cool. Also, I was at Walmart and saw some dolls that were specifically to have fidget toys in them. And I think that's just capitalizing on a trend but one of them had some giant pigtails that were made to be stretchy and messed with (I think her name was Unicorn Sprinkle), and I know there's so many people in my (new) lolita comm who keep fidget toys on hand for anxiety at meets, so I think it'd be really cool to have a doll in a lolita dress that's specifically for you to carry at meets and fidget with but that goes with your outift. However, I hate making doll clothes. I have many ideas about doll clothes but I don't do any of them.

#8) More tea party shoes. After making my last pair into roller skates, I bought some very used ones for $5, but they broke on my first wear and I can't find a couch by the side of the road to fix them with like I did on my last ones. I have like 4 pairs of RHS and 4 pairs of chunky mary jane platforms, so I need some tea parties. This is especially true because of my bad ankle. My podiatrist probably really wants me to stay closer to the ground than 4".

#9) I kind of just want to own every single meta frill skirt that I can find. They're cheap and comfy and maybe I do want to get back into wearing lolita every day if that wearing lolita is meta frill skirts.

#10) This is going to sound weird, but I want more blouses that need to be ironed. I've been getting so many gathered polyester blouses that don't need to be pressed, and I want the look of that crisp pressed blouse. Also I really love when you take it out of the wash and it's yucky and sad but then you press it and it's all crispy and happy. I don't like that sometimes I want it to be something that's already pressed and I have to press it, but I love when you renew something's life with your iron.

Okay, that's it for today. This one was fun, because it made me think. Maybe that's the point of these, to make you think about the situation you've taken for granted differently. BTW now everyone is asking me about pretzel lolita. I remember a long time ago there was a Threadbanger post about something called the Dookie Necklace (seen in part of this video about 1:30 in) and I feel like pretzel lolita needs to somehow incorporate Dookie Necklace technology. I'll think on this one and get back to you.

I know nudes shouldn’t really be on the legs this time of year, but when they are a pair of Secrets In Lace… There is no stopping me. I got this gorgeous pair gifted to review, and I am so happy that I finally have my hands on a pair to do.

The Review

From The Website: Exclusive to SECRETS IN LACE these 15 denier ultra sheer RH&T stockings are made with two colors and classic details. The welt has a fine line around the top and bottom followed in the after welt with the SECRETS IN LACE logo. The welt color contrasts with the leg color for a stunning effect.

The Packaging: these normally come gift wrapped in branded tissue paper as shown below. Once you unravel all that, you find this pretty simple cardboard packaging. I know there isn’t much to it, but trust me it’s worth the wait when you get inside.

The stockings come wrapped around plain card and have foot/leg shaping to them, so you can line up and get them on easily.

Getting Them On: I would recommend hosiery gloves if you are the type to end up snagging hosiery. I only say this as these are super delicate and can easily snag if you’re not careful. I always have to make sure to take care going over my anklets and up the legs.

On The Legs: oh wow! Just wow is all that is coming out of my mouth when I got them on and was doing my shoot. I gotta say that colour is just bang on for a barely there look with that popping red thick band to top it all off nicely. It’s a colour which has a slight tan to it, but gives such a lovely colour to the legs with minimal effort. At one point, it blended in so well with my skin colour, it looked like I wasn’t wearing any (you could only tell by the wrinkles)

The quality of these are just amazing; I loved being in my pair and I had no issues at all. I thought I would end up snagging them as I kept bumping into things today, but not at all. I loved every minute being in them:

I felt so luxurious and it was my little secret for the day!

The fit of them are great; I first assumed they might have been too small, but actually they were fine. I would have gone one size up to add more wrinkles around the legs for a full vintage effect, but these worked out great for me if I am perfectly honest.

The feel is just incredible; they are so silky soft, your legs just slide off one another. They are such a fab pair to be in whether it’s to work, on a date night or just if you fancy feeling a little glam at home. I love how effortless they are and instantly, they transform a plain outfit into something so classy!

The Toes & Ankle: well these toes are reinforced for sure, and that goes for the heel too (it’s all in the name really). You get a slightly darker patch in these areas, which I think really adds to the look. I did have a few wrinkles around this area, but it’s expected when you have a pair that is 100% nylon with zero stretch to them.

Around the toes, it was pretty comfortable and there was wiggle room. There was no pressure added around this area, and that also goes for the feet and ankles too.

The Bands: now this is what I call a good thick band! The lower part is a sheerer denier with the brand name going around, which then works into a thicker denier band so your clasps can hook on with ease.

The bands aren’t the type to rip easily, so you can tug at these and pull them up as high as you like without worrying (don’t panic – I already put them to the test and pulled them as high as I could; they were perfectly fine).

I used an 8-clasp belt (for the sake of it really) to hold mine up, but a 4 clasp can work just as good on these. Just make sure if you’re using plastic clasps that you tug them and test them out before you spend the day in them just in case they come apart!

My Thoughts?

Simply gorgeous! I love the fit of these, and there was minimal wrinkles too. The quality of these are great too, and the colour really works with my skin so it looks super natural with a barely there look to it. The bands are super comfy too and I would certainly recommend them for sure!

It was built as a spec house that we knew would hit the market in February. February in Chicago is pretty dreary and everyone seems to be looking forward to spring break. I kept seeing the hanging chairs from Serena and Lily coming through my IG feed and I was inspired to build a house that would be worthy of those cool chairs. The beach house was underway!”

This powder room deserves a pin! Isn’t it gorgeous? It features shiplap wainscoting and a custom floating vanity made out of reclaimed wood.

Interior Design Ideas: Modern Coastal Shingle Home

Built by my friends at Patterson Custom Homes (previously featured here & here), architecture by Brandon Architects, Inc., interiors by Lindye Galloway Interiors and photography by Chad Mellon Photography, this home will allow you to leave the blog feeling inspired. The interiors have a modern coastal approach and if you are crazy about pillows as much as I am, you will love this house tour because this place features many beautiful pillow combinations that you could replicate in your own home!

Taking inspiration from East Coast Traditional and Shingle style architecture, this home blends some more contemporary and modern features such as the open layout/floor plan and steel doors and windows at the entry. Another powerful feature of the design is the double height volume between the courtyard and the kitchen/second floor walk to the master. This helps provide more light and volume. Other features include exterior trellis shade structures, tall vaulted ceilings, and a stained blue shingle finish with white trim that adds to the richness in detail and design of the home.

I have waited for a long time to able to post this home and I really hope this house tour brings you some happy and inspiring moments. The builder, Patterson Custom Homes, was able to share a lot of details (they are the best!!!), but the furnishing were not available. For this reason I’ll be doing my best to share similar options so you still can get the same look!

Windows

Dining Room

The kitchen opens to dining room and living room. Notice the peninsula between the dining room and kitchen. It would be wonderful if the cabinet doors were added to this side as well, so it could be better accessed from the dining room. Keep this in mind if you have a similar layout.

The designer did such a great job when decorating these floating shelves. It feels very organic, neutral with a subtle coastal vibe. I hope it inspires you.

Hello, my dear friends! How are you today? I hope you’re feeling healthy and things are going well for you.

It’s really wonderful to start this new day sharing with this beautiful home with you. Honestly speaking, I work really hard to bring the best and the latest when it comes to interior design to all of you, and I want you to know how much I appreciate your daily presence on Home Bunch. Now, let’s talk about this gorgeous place!

Recently built by Timber Trails Development Company and with interiors by Julie Howard (previously featured here, here, here & here), this home features so many fresh ideas that I am sure you will leave the post feeling inspired.

Here, the interior designer shares more about this newly-built home: “The Andover at Timber Trails is a sophisticated and chic farmhouse. One might think those two looks wouldn’t meld well together but the Andover bucks conventional wisdom. Starting with the exterior we traded the traditional white and black farmhouse for a dark grey facade. We love how it pops off the white trim. The stone work elevates the design and grounds the house at the same time. Inside we went with a white and black design warmed up with brass, natural wood, and hints of mossy green. We hope you enjoy this tour of the house we built to showcase creative and awe-inspiring design.” – Julie Howard, In-house designer for Timber Trails Development Company.

A compact, but very practical, butler’s pantry is located between the dining room and kitchen.

A walk-in pantry is located on the right.

Two-toned Kitchen

The kitchen epitomizes sophisticated and chic farmhouse. The hood is the focal point as you walk into the kitchen.

Kitchen Peninsula

We used a cement tile on the back of the kitchen peninsula. We then used a Caesarstone waterfall to cap the open edge. We love the detail this provides and as a mom, I love the idea of wiping down the dirt that always seems to be where little feet kick. It was a really simple tile project because there isn’t a window or outlet to have to cut around. It’s a flat, plain wall. If you get sick of the tile pattern, it would be so simple just to tile right over the area with another tile.

Vertical

The vertical shiplap along side the elegant fixtures and brass hardware is unexpected but somehow works so beautifully together.

Kitchen Hood

By painting the hood white it blends in to the white walls but at the same time stands out from the rest of the black cabinetry. Hood is painted in Benjamin Moore Simply White.

Mirrors

I knew I wanted to have dramatic mirrors that brought your eyes up to a beautiful chandelier. I could not find simple, mid-century style mirrors that were really tall. I decided to use my greatest asset – my trim carpenter. He actually used a sheet of MDF, and some 1x4s cut in half to create the mirror frames. Then we had our painter spray them black when he was spraying the interior doors. After we installed the frames on the wall, the mirror company measured and installed a custom mirror. This project allowed us to create framed mirrors that were the absolute perfect size for the space. I will certainly use this technique again for sure!

The large walk-in shower once again combines the same tiling.

Shower Niche

A black and white herringbone mosaic tile beautifully accentuates the shower niche.

Charlotte Custom Home

How do you imagine your dream home? Is it a large Modern Farmhouse with plenty of land and nature surrounding it? Perhaps, it’s a beach house steps away from the ocean. Or how about a villa in Tuscany or the South of France? It could be a mountain home hidden in the woods or maybe a penthouse in Manhattan. For me, a dream home goes beyond its walls and location. I feel that a house only becomes a home if it’s shared with the people we love, where lives and memories are created and dreams – or goals – are achieved.

Recently built by Grande Custom Builders (I absolutely love their work!), this Charlotte, North Carolina, custom home exudes elegance. The interiors feature a warm color scheme that feels timeless and perfect for any season of the year. In fact, if you’re tired of all-white interiors, this home should be what you’ve been waiting for. Here, you will find interiors that perfectly balance beautiful architecture with rich textures and decor.
