@joltning you ABSOLUTELY can! Though the women in this are very small I am very endeared to them lol. So first, more about Leigh, and then some info about Brooke
So it’s set up as like one of the first things we know about Logan is that he has a girlfriend whom he rlly cares about. He has a polaroid of the two of them in the back of his phone case, the last thing he does before they go on the trip is text bye to her, and even his friends lightly tease him for always talking about and texting her. Logan really cares about Leigh, which makes sense, she’s his girlfriend, and has been for the better part of a year now (i’m still not exactly sure of how long they’ve been together, still smoothing out the details of the timeline, but it’s obviously a serious relationship)
The first indication that Leigh is cheating on Logan is the first night the boys are in the cabin. After everyone’s asleep, Charlie takes out a polaroid Leigh gave him (queen loves her some polaroids) of her topless, and she even wrote him a cute note on the back and signing it with an L, and he jerks off to it, intercut with scene flashes from his POV of the two having sex, indicating that it was a semi-regular thing that they did. You don’t give a polaroid of your naked self to a guy you’ve only hooked up with once or twice.
Charlie’s a really sexually frustrated guy, clearly, so this happens every night the guys are at the cabin, to varying degrees of explicitness in the film, but the final time it happens it’s a lot messier and bloodier than it actually was, intercut with shots of Chelsea, which I swear I gotta emphasize was thought of before I watched Deadgirl lmao I just thought it would be cool and creepy and show Charlie’s fucked up head and his guilt regarding the affair with Leigh and ignoring Chelsea’s body. Anyway at the end of that fantasy, there’s a moment where we hear the only word Leigh says all movie, which is simply “Logan?” and that’s not something Charlie made up, that’s a memory. During one of the times he and Leigh had sex, Charlie had accidentally said Logan’s name, because yay gay repression 😃👍
Anyway, after Isaac’s death, Logan tries to grab his wallet to storm out of the cabin, but grabs Charlie’s by mistake, leading to Charlie panicking and way-too-suspiciously asking for the wallet back, to which Logan opens it and sees the polaroid of Leigh. The note on the back is pretty damning, and while Charlie tries to downplay what happened, you can’t really talk your way out of being the other guy in your best friend’s relationship. But interestingly, Logan is more hurt and betrayed by what Charlie did than his girlfriend for doing the actual cheating, because y’know he’s also harboring feelings for Charlie (maybe even stronger than the ones for his own girlfriend) so it hurts more to him.
When Logan is having sex with Chelsea at the end, and he sees her as Leigh, she gives him a kiss on his forehead, and since Leigh is shown throughout the movie wearing bright red lipstick, it leaves a little kiss mark. When Logan snaps out of it, it’s revealed that the kiss mark on his forehead is just blood, probably from Logan pressing his forehead against Chelsea’s bloody gunshot wound in her forehead. Also regarding that scene, after Logan climaxes, he hurriedly says all three names (Chelsea, Leigh, Charlie) all kind of a mess together, since he has feelings (of varying degrees) towards all of them
I’m gonna leave my plan for a sequel out of this post for now, so that’s all the Leigh we get, so I’ll quickly turn my attention to Brooke!
Honestly I’m surprised anyone actually remembered Brooke haha! She’s a VERY minor character, not even making an actual appearance by face in the first movie, only being mentioned by name. She’s a prop character as much as Leigh is.
Basically, Brooke was the girlfriend Charlie had that he cheated on with Logan. She only really exists to facilitate that the gay cheating happened, and said gay cheating eventually led to Charlie and her breaking up, Charlie blaming Logan for it and holding resentment towards him, and eventually pushing Logan and Leigh together because Leigh is best friends with Brooke. That’s pretty much all Brooke’s purpose is in the first one. She’s the ex girlfriend that gets mentioned a total of two, maybe three times.
In the sequel, again I’m not gonna go too far in depth, but the sequel follows Logan and Leigh after the events of the first movie, and since Brooke is Leigh’s best friend, she actually shows up and has a purpose in that one, to be a voice of reason and kind of an exposition character. Brooke also kind of resents Logan, since he’s best friends with the guy who dumped her and he’s dating her best friend, so he remains a presence in her life despite her not caring too much about him. She also suspected Charlie of cheating before he broke up with her, but she never knew who it was he’d slept with, and as his best friend, assumed Logan knew, so again, more resentment. She does eventually confront him about all of her frustrations in the sequel, which doesn’t necessarily go great for her (I’ll make a separate post talking about the sequel I promise) but she does get fleshed out and developed more than she was in the first movie. It’s also in small doses, but you can see that Brooke is going through something similar with Leigh and her friends that literally all the other characters in this series are, that they’re basically 🤏 this close to losing all the people in their friend group and are clinging on to them like a lifeline. Again, based on my personal experiences
Does anyone actually wanna hear what Chelsea: The Girl in the Woods is about? Bc I’d love to talk about it lol
