idt you're going to convince ai-critical people to calm down about it by pointing out that we rely on TONS of technology that was revolutionary and controversial when it became available to the public. like, first off, that argument depends on the assumption that currently, things are going as well as they possibly could be (i.e., acceptance of those technologies was the right path, therefore accepting this technology is the right path). secondly, the people who have negative knee-jerk responses to things like ai probably would have had negative knee-jerk responses to other revolutionary technologies affecting cognition, education, and the labor market if they'd been alive or old enough to have meaningful opinions on the matter.
#i am really in the middle on this issue rn but this in particular strikes me as like a nothing argument#it's nice as a 'keep in mind' point it's not an actual reason to be uncritical of revolutionary technologies that are being forced on ppl

1, 8, 31, 40, 44 and 53 for the writing meme :-)
eeeeeep thank you for all of these :D
1. Favourite place to write.
lmaooooo well. by far my most productive writing days are when I’m on a train. I usually have limited internet, no interruptions and it’s quiet, and I get a lot done as a result. plus if I’m writing smut there’s this added giggling every five minutes bc no one knows I’m writing smut apart from me and that’s just. really funny to me for some reason lol.
but alas I don’t go on a lot of long train journeys nowadays, so the next favourite is definitely my bed with the lights off. I get most of my writing done on my phone and then I edit on my laptop, so I’m usually lying in bed when I get the better ideas.
8. Favourite trope to write.
see with me I don’t know if I really do a lot of tropes in my actual writing as much as I enjoy reading them. I have still never written a coffee shop au, lol. but I mean one thing I keep coming back to is the idea of soulmates across the multiverse and I’m so heavily invested in that for lauryssa that I have headcanons for various earths in my head rn.
31. Hardest character to write.
hmm idk. maybe rip, actually, because it’s really hard to strike a balance between him being an east londoner who is a disaster time dad and then his sort of formality that he usually has in his speech? I’ve never quite got the hang of his voice, basically.
40. Original Fiction or Fanfiction, and why?
ah I feel bad saying this bc I haven’t read a lot of fic lately, but it has to be original fiction at this particular moment in time. I’ve discovered some total gems during my jobhunt as a result of looking up some authors that the literary agencies I’ve been applying to represent, and they’ve reminded me how much I absolutely love reading novels of various kinds. currently I’m in the middle of a novel called disobedience which I believe is also a movie now, and I’m honestly so completely blown away by the beauty of the prose. having said that, there are fic writers who knock my socks off in the same way, like you, ofc, and also @dutchjohns (I seriously would love to know how she comes up with all those beautiful turns of phrase because GUHHHHH) as well as some of my inspirations to try different things in my writing, my friends @crollalanzaa and @karasunovolleygays when we were in the hp fandom together and they both wrote a ton of rarepairs and did a wonderful job with dialogue in particular which is why I think I like writing it so much. for sure fanfic has made me a better writer and I’ll always be grateful for that. but yeah rn I do like reading original fiction and I have an idea for a novel that i might commit to. who knows.
44. Best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten.
I mean, when @stungunmilly2 mentioned that I was giving away a bit too much in terms of exposition I think that was a great bit of advice because I never know with that and I didn’t even realise it was really an issue until I went to a writing class this one time.
but also in my most recent killjoys fic, I had a number of people tell me that they didn’t ship dutch and johnny romantically and yet the strength of my writing kinda swayed them or at least made them understand why I shipped them like that. and I think that’s a big deal because it takes a lot to even read something that you don’t ship, let alone say that you enjoyed it and were convinced by it. so yeah. :)
53. What does writing mean to you?
it’s my one release and escape from the shitty world we live in, lol. and in all honesty I would be very, very lost if I didn’t have some kind of outlet, and I’m glad I have this because I need it like air. and when I have bad days re my self esteem and how good/bad a writer I am (usually bad), sometimes I have to remind myself that I’m doing this primarily for me. everything else comes secondary to that, really.
