while I still really love the baratie part of the LA, I do think it's the weakest adaption-wise. Particularly for Sanji. I'm kinda bummed that so much of Sanji's intro had to be shared with so much other plot stuff. I still like a lot of that plot stuff, but it does mean the Sanji stuff is weaker.
I really mourn how the conflict between Sanji and Luffy in the manga got shifted over to Sanji and Zeff. Sanji is considerably less snotty than he was in the manga, and there's no longer that visceral fear of following his dreams that made him stand out. Even Usopp the coward jumped at the chance to join Luffy's crew, but someone strong like Sanji took a lot of convincing. Also him not witnessing Zoro almost die for his dream is something I just flat don't like, and is the biggest thing of the plot getting in the way of Sanji's chunk of the story. Zoro's willingness to die instead of give up is a big part of why Sanji changed his mind.
Sanji being so much less resistant to Luffy is not as compelling in my opinion. I feel like if the LA had more episodes to properly play out arlong park, Sanji's part of the story wouldn't feel so squished. Cus to me it feels like they had to sacrifice Sanji getting a stronger character intro so they could end stronger.
#one piece#one piece live action#vinsmoke sanji#manga sanji was literally one of those people who was like 'we grow out of our dreams and you're childish for following them'#but with meeting luffy and zoro he changed#it's such a shame they had to cut that#and i really do think it was because of time#if arlong park had been given two more epsiodes then I don't think sanji's part of the story would have suffered so much#i am really excited for season two tho. cus there's a lot of good sanji to adapt#i REALLY hope they keep in how he nearly single-handedly busted them out of crocodile's trap
