listen since i stopped playing ffxiv i've been downloading and emulating games like crazy. I play one for 20 intense hours over three days then i stop and switch to another. it could mean my attention span is absolutely destroyed but i actually haven't been that happy in a while

I finally did the thing I’ve been threatening to do for ages. I drew a quaint little infographic for the LU/LoZ timeline. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I am *not* affiliated with jojo, the original creator of the Linked Universe. This is not guaranteed to be LU accurate. I do not have access to her plans.

What I do have is a decade and a half of Zelda headcanons and a finished file of nearly every Zelda game.

I love jojo’s AU precisely because it fits so well with canon, while making some very fitting changes. This is a tiny humble tribute to LU, the fandom, and the LoZ franchise. I hope this helps at least one person write even more amazing fics and draw even more amazing art. I’m looking forward to it <3.

Each blue circle is a game

The circles that intersect directly with their corresponding Link’s icon are the ones that are canonically attributed to that Link

Notes:

Legend’s 2nd, 3rd, and 4th games are interchangeable in order, as long as the Oracle games remain adjacent. The order there is my preference.

FSA is on this diagram twice. It is canonically after TP, but I think it makes way more sense in LU to place it after FS so I’ve placed it there as well. I hypothesize— you guessed it— more time shenanigans.

Warriors’ game isn’t canon, but afaik most LU fans (myself included) believe it was the catalyst for the timeline convergence. I’ve seen other interesting interpretations for the convergence as well though.

Spirit Tracks is a special case, because unlike Legend and Four with their respective merge games, Wind has never shown signs of being from ST. I’ve given ST to Wind in this diagram, but I personally like to believe Spirit is his own hero, and he’s just not on the journey due to geographic differences— he’s the only hero who has never saved Hyrule proper, so he’s technically not a Hero of Hyrule.

Linktober masterpost

Well. That was a wild ride. Fun fact- I never planned on doing Linktober this year! Because I am not the best with 2d art, I just kind of assumed I couldn't. But on the literal first. Day. Of October, my adhd brain realised that I could do an October challenge in another medium- mainly eggs. I've been doing egg carvings for years, so I figured I could just. Carve eggs.... for Linktober... and then I did it??

From there it quickly evolved into a random personal challenge to see how many different art mediums I could stuff into these prompts. I carved rocks, glass, bottles, etc... about halfway through the month I ran out of eggs and had to wait for my chickens to lay more. And then on a random whim I actually finished all thirty one days, falling behind twice. Go figure.

how much do you like twilight princess?

i have all 3 US versions of Twilight Princess (GameCube, Wii, and WiiU) complete in box, with about 130 hours total, and i plan to get all 3 again complete in box but the Japanese versions cause they have different cover art. plus ive got all the Twilight Princess related amiibos, and the DX TP Link Figma (im workin on getting my hands on the TP Zelda Figma and First4Figures True Form Midna statue) and the complete manga set

Hey, I'm going to be a tad bit ranty, and this by no means is targeting anybody but-

I am getting tired of some Zelink shippers on the internet man.

Like, I get it. It's a pretty darn cute ship and in some cases I love it to peices (Skyward Sword and Spirit Tracks Zelink my beloveds), but I swear some of us are straight up insane.

They go out of their way to beat down anybody who doesn't only ship Zelink or completely despise other female characters because it gets in the way of the "correct ship". Seriously I cant be the only one to notice the pure hate Ilia gets because she's another one of Link's love interests. Like, I get it, seeing ships you don't like is annoying, but to harp about how only one is right and above the rest is plan stupid. In some cases it doesn't even make sense, like for TP, but if you dare mention it it's as if you insulted their mother 🙄.

And don't even get me started on the homophobia. They act as if Link kissing a man or Zelda kissing a woman will send them into a coma.

I really like this community, but the shipping discourse is atrocious and trying to find somebody who also likes Zelink but isn't insane is difficult and if I mention I like it people are afraid I'm one of the crazy ones too. It's disheartening and is the reason why I don't even dare go onto Zelda Twitter anymore despite the amazing artist.

Sorry about the rant, but I really had to get this off my chest because I had the misfortune of stumbling upon somebody here doing the exact thing that ran me off of Twitter 🤦‍♀️.

I understand why people ship Link and Zelda in all the games, and while I personally don’t, I don’t disagree with people who do. I think it’s a bit insane (/pos) of nintendo to not really confirm anything and leave everything up to the player’s interpretation, and the best part about that is that we don’t have to ship Link and Zelda in every game. There are so many other great ships in the games! And yeah, homophobia is really disheartening and I hate to see it happen in fandoms I care so much about as a queer person myself. Personally every single version of Link gives me queer vibes in some way, and seeing people being so outright homophobic makes me sad.

Keep shipping who you like, as long as it isn’t problematic 🫶🫶🫶 The best advice I can give it to try not to let others ruin a fandom you enjoy, I just block homophobes when I see them

4. a story idea you haven't written yet

Ok so like. I've got these two ideas kicking around in my head from time to time that I'm like. Still kind of workshopping. One is a fanfic and one is an original fic. But basically I've had in my head since forever (10 years of Big Thinking) about a big Digimon sort of odyssey that originally started as a Pokemon x Digimon crossover where I took the Rocket executives and shoved them into the digital world. I have a whole world built for it already and a central sort of issue/theme revolving around a power struggle between the Demon Lords and the Royal Knights. The Royal Knights control HUB City, which is the major settlement in the continent, the Demon Lords control the Dark Lands, and kind of like usual they all want to wipe each other out. There's eventually a viral sort of glitch that starts to deteriorate the digital world and jumps to the real world.

Part of my problem is I've wanted to make it a comic or at the very least an illustrated fic and part of the problem is I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it as a crossover or just slap some new names onto the execs bc i gotta be real, the pokemon world and other pokemon characters. do not feature. at all.

its really just an excuse for me to give petrel a digimon.

anyways they all have full evolution lines planned, i've got a few major story beats, plot points, and the major final twist decided on. i also have 5 amvs that i play in my head on a loop when i drive to and from work.

also in this fic some digimon are gay (stingmon and flamedramon makeout sessions when) and trans (crusadermon, trans queen) ive decided

i think ive posted old art before extending the au to some characters and for my perfworld mutuals if youve seen my sycamore + dukemon art before that specific dukemon is also from this au. ive also got a fic i did publish where i workshopped a little bit of HUB city & a few side characters

i am now realizing i meant to also talk about the original fic i have planned and that one is a short story about a serial killer who murders hitchhikers picking up a hitchhiking serial killer and that one is less planned out but i know they sloppy kiss in the end

13. a fandom you're thinking about writing for

so like besides pokemon and tiger & bunny & digimon there's none i actively have fic ideas for, but some fandoms I think I'd like to revisit are Sonic and Zelda. Actually I had a Zelda fic I abandoned back on FFNet that I'd like to take another crack at one day where the premise was it was a modern setting based on the OOT/TP Hyrule (mostly OOT) where magic and fairies and such are regarded as superstition sort of the same way they are now, and the wondrous races (Goron, Zora, Kokiri/Korok, etc. even the Sheika to some extent) had all died out, leaving pretty much just the human races like Hylian, Terminian, Gerudo, etc. (In this case Termina is legitimately a neighboring kingdom/country and not limbo/purgatory ok??) And the kicker was Link was like. a hardcore atheist. but i think i remember people getting mad at me bc i made his legal name "Mahas" which I MUST IMPLORE YOU. THIS IS CANONICALLY HIS NAME AS OF SKYWARD SWORD. BELIEVE IT OR NOT THERE WAS AN ATTEMPT TO BUILD A PSEUDO LANGUAGE IN SKYWARD SWORD. WE KNOW HIS NAME IS MAHAS BECAUSE IN THE BEGINNING WHEN FI IS JUST CALLING HIM LINK AND NOT MASTER LINK HER VOICE LINES ARE EVER ONLY MAHAS. ONCE SHE BEGINS CALLING HIM MASTER LINK ANY TIME IT APPEARS ON SCREEN SHE SAYS "MAARI MAHAS." SO IM RIGHT OK FUCK OFF IM RIGHT. DIE MAD FFNET. DIE. MAD.

20. in what year did you publish your first fic?

In the year of our lord 2005 (pensive emoji)(raised fist emoji) I published a... fic of some kind to FFNet.

You won't find it anymore, I deleted it a long time ago! I'm not sure if it was 'Rocket Road Trip' or 'The Rebellion,' but it was one of those. I used to write a ton of OC team rocket fics, and this was back in the day when the Rocket Executives had no name so you either thought there was 1 guy exec and 1 girl exec or you thought each exec encounter in GSC was a different person, and that was me. So I gave them all names and threw them into a truck together and i think in the very first chapter they were leaving the Team Rocket HQ and they ran over and left to die the OC who would later go on to be repurposed into Proton except his name was Steve then and he was a special classification of trainer class that I called a "Random Rocket," and the thing about Random Rockets was they all had very generic names (Steve, Bob, Juan, I think there was a Nancy once but she never got to show up in a fic or rp?) but the OTHER thing about Random Rockets was no one knew what they looked like because canonically their faces were all censored with a big ass mosaic effect (this was written, not draw.)

anyways farla cussed me out on 3 or 4 different fics back when she used to cuss out literal children so I deleted all my fics from 2005 - 2008 and then I deleted more of them when I went to college.

I tend to be a bit Victor Hugo-esque with my sentences, aka I have to control myself so the sentence doesn't stretch on for five paragraphs

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I mean? For LOTR I would definitely sprinkle in elvish just for the vibe of it, also because he did so, but I would also provide translations. For real-world...hmm. I think I did throw in three or four German words in The Book Thief fic I posted recently, but again, the author himself did so, and I think so long as you're not adding a full, necessary sentence that the reader is then required to look up in order to understand what's going on, and if you instead just use a curse word or a muttered phrase of annoyance or something in the other language, I think that's fine.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

LOTR, I believe. Hand-written in seventh or eighth grade XD

(And then I wrote dozens of unfinished Loz fics in the notes app on my mom's ancient phone she didn't use anymore, fics that completely misunderstood any of the games because I hadn't played them yet. It pains me to think about those fics).

(also this is not counting those "add on to the end of the story!" assignments teachers used to give out in middle school)

you feel like home - SkSw Zelink, a teeny tiny bit of angst but mostly fluff (also Link nearly throws hands with Scrapper which is a bonus. When I tell you I cranked that fic out in a day after getting so salty with Scrapper I nearly snapped my wiimote in half)

would I run off the world someday - a very recent TP Zinc fic!! It has traces of Midlink; essentially, it's about Link refusing to stop grieving Midna, and thus hurting himself and Zelda, who is in love with him due to having shared a soul with Midna. It's basically a 4+1 fic and does end happy with the promise of future Zelink, very different from my normal Zelink stuff though

7/11 updates! + "Last Night Zelda" teaser!

Well, it's July! And through some miracle, I'm still alive! The summer has been a lot busier than I expected (I made way more trips back home than I planned on making) so needless to say I have not done a lot of writing, lol. Oh well! It happens. Life be like that sometimes.

I'm working on "Last Night Zelda" as we speak though!!! I would like to get it finished up before the end of July so I can focus on my fics for AgneKari Week (only a month away!!!!), but I'm also moving to a new apartment at the end of the month and that will be a...fun time. I hate moving. It always reminds me of how much stuff I have xD I am excited for it though. Definitely ready to move.

In the meantime, have a little snippet of "Last Night Zelda", a modern au TP Zelink fic!

A flood of memories crashed into Zelda. She had been in her office reviewing paperwork for next week’s council meetings when a maid came by with a delivery: a gift basket from a new suitor. Said basket included a letter of the man’s intentions to pursue her, along with a box of chocolates and a bottle of her favorite wine. She meant to put the letter aside and deal with it when the weekend was over, but something nagged at her to open it. It was dreadfully boring and pretentious, as most letters of courtship were. But by the end of it, she was sobbing, head in her hands as tears streamed down her face. Reading those words of affection, she’d found herself desperately wishing that they’d been penned by a different man. By law, any citizen of Hyrule was permitted to pursue Zelda. The days of political marriages were long past, even if her father had attempted to settle her into one before he passed. All one had to do was submit a request to her council, who would do a thorough background check before approving the request. From there, the prospective paramour would announce their intentions to Zelda herself, and it was up to her to accept or decline.  She’d received offers from CEOs, politicians, and celebrities. She’d received offers from heart surgeons, professors of political science, and news anchors. She’d even received an offer from the castle librarian’s son who was ten years her junior. But never had she received an offer from the blue-eyed bodyguard who snuck his way into her every thought. That had been the breaking point last night: the fact that no matter how much she wished it, how desperately her heart and soul desired it, Link would never pursue her.

playing pikmin is so fun coming up w/ a strategy replaying the same level like a hundred times devising the most time efficient route :D am on like i think day 4 and am coming up w/ the best way to get two parts in one day. well i was planning on like doing it all but theres so many flies in the house again T-T its cause my grandma was here while i was gone and always leaves the door wide open so like hundreds came in and i could hardly play w/o them literally flying straight into my face and i sprayed them so there louded and like slower and just crash into my face rly gross. so i just planned out what i am gonna do and then am gonna try tomorrow or so. hopefully all the flies are gone by tomorrow its sooo annoying T-T played a lil bit of animal crossing and then pikmin and was hoping to start twilight princess too. i do wanna replay ocarina of time but also like i sorta remember most of the beats of the game so i think the first like like up until adult llink its all gonna be real familiar and twilight princess is agame ive only really played thru once so like itd be real fun playing it all over again. the thing is thinking abt one zelda game makes me wanna replay all of them like especially w/ tp it def feels like a fusion of oot and alttp. anyways also stopped cause focusing on both pikmin and then the flies simultaneously was starting to give me a headache just als otoday was busy so and kept trying to nap so i wouldnt be too tired driving but that also gave me a headache lol ._. anyways yay gaming :D kinda leaning more into gc rn cause of pikmin and ac but i do wnana play some more dark cloud too soon

I think the issue is with expectations. Specifically this line: “many expected a WW style Ganondorf.” Like, no offense but that’s not on the Zelda team, that’s on you. You’re responsible for your own expectations, not the developers.

There’s definitely things fans can criticize the games for. No game is perfect after all. But I often find these rants and emotional outbursts tend to be very one sided and based on things the developers never intended.

Like I’m sorry but the games are not “badly written” because they didn’t do something YOU expected them to do based on your own personal headcanon or hype. They are not mind readers, so to treat any indication that they weren’t going in the direction you wanted them to go is extremely entitled behavior on your part.

Take, for example, the Mario movie. There’s a lot you can criticize the film for. It’s too short. It moved too fast. And the 80’s soundtrack is jarring when compared to the incomparable music by the composer. Those are legitimate criticisms of the film.

What isn’t legitimate criticisms is expecting Yoshi to play a bigger role in the film. That was clearly never the intent of the creators and wasn’t hyped by the marketing team, so it’s weird whenever I see people saying the Mario movie is “bad” because they didn’t get Yoshi prominently. That’s not a legitimate criticism.

So yeah, when I see people saying stuff like “Ganondorf was meant to have a good side like Raoh from First of the North Star!” or “people expected WW Ganondorf but got TP Ganondorf” I can’t help but feel like those grandiose expectations are not legitimate criticisms of the game. Is there a source for that Fist of the North Star speculation? Was there ever a quote from the developers that was their plan? I certainly don’t recall seeing anything of the sort so I am curious where you came up with that.

I’m seriously not trying to be rude here, but I genuinely don’t understand how people think this way and blame the games for stuff they concocted in their heads.

The writing in Tears of the Kingdom is legitimately very good! The fact that it didn’t go in the direction you hoped doesn’t make it automatically “bad.”

I have already said it but I want to clarify :

Warning, this is a rant, but why do Zelda fans feel the need to mock those who dare to offer a critical opinion about their favorite game or character?

Especially when it comes to Ganondorf. I can't count how many times I've seen people mocking those who criticize the storyline of TOTK and how the antagonist is portrayed, saying completely narrow-minded things like "duuuuuuuuh, but Ganondorf is pure evil," "those who think he's redeemable are easily manipulated," "he's the villain, and the others are the good guys, end of the story, haha, I'm so much smarter than you, LOLLOLOLOLOL."

Let's make this clear: NO ONE SAID THAT TOTK GANONDORF IS GOOD OR THAT HIS ACTIONS ARE JUSTIFIED.

The problem is that the storyline of TOTK is poorly written, and many people expected a WW Ganondorf but ended up with a TP version of him.

While personally, I didn't expect anything, I understand why some people are frustrated. Once again, let me repeat it:

Critiquing Rauru and Hyrule doesn't mean Ganondorf's actions are forgiven.

Furthermore, there is absolutely nothing ridiculous about complaining about how Nintendo treats Ganondorf (or any other character, for that matter). I've already made a post about this, but WW Ganondorf is one of the best antagonists they have ever written in the Legend of Zelda franchise. That's because they gave him a more human and realistic dimension compared to his other versions. I'd also like to add that originally, Ganondorf was meant to have a good side, much like Raoh in Fist of the North Star, and therefore, he wasn't meant to be 100% evil. But unfortunately, they changed their minds.

Is it really that hard to grasp? I'm sorry for being so upset, but this is really beyond me

I really don’t have a preference, I guess, but I usually tend to write male characters more often. Usually the most complicated, angsty and morally ambiguous, full of trauma and a tragic story/past. I like to explore their personalities and give them some sort of redemption arc, plus I absolutely LOVE angst themes!

FLUFF  :   I love it! I’m a sucker for fluff, as much as I am for angst, tho I usually prefer to write angst (it comes easier to me) but I’m always up for fluff too! In fact, I think I need to write it more sometimes skdskdhkfhf

ANGST  :  I absolutely LOVE angst! I dunno, I just like to suffer, I guess ksahdskadhddk

SMUT  :  absolutely NO SMUT. I’m aroace and sex repulsed so that’s a big no-no to me. Although I can write some spicy scenes such as make-out or foreplay, as long as they are not explicit and keep things pretty vague, but I only write these with close friends and people I can trust and know won’t cross my boundaries with gross stuff.

PLOT / MEMES  :  I highly encourage plotting! But I don’t mind memes, either, sometimes I also like to go with the flow. Of course some more developed plots will demand more planning, but I’m always open for chatting and plotting so never be afraid to hit me up if you want to discuss a potential plot!

Nintendo E3 2021

Sooo... basically, Nintendo's E3 presentation this year tore my heart in two.

For one, we got more of Breath of the Wild 2, and it looks just GORGEOUS. I can't wait to hold the game in my hands. Heck, the gotta take their time, even if it has to be until the end of 2022! It hurts, yes. I too wanna play the game NOW. But if the result is another masterpiece, the wait is worth it. I mean, we all know what can happen if games get rushed. (Remember E.T., anyone? Five weeks, the guy had to make it. FIVE. WEEKS.)

On the other hand... what the heck, Aonuma-san?!!! No further games or stuff planned for the 35th anniversary??? Come on! My heart is bleeding here! Firstly, Mario got a bunch of Switch ports last year for its anniversary. And I am not even a Mario fan. To be honest, I even dislike the franchise. So, there's that salt. But even from a logical standpoint, Zelda is as big a flagship of Nintendo's as Mario. So why doing it sucha disservice? Secondly, I never played Twilight Princess. Or Wind Waker. Never could, cause I never had the consoles. I don't mind Skyward Sword getting portet, I never played it, and maybe even the controlls work great this time. But I wanna play Twilight Princess! I would have even played Wind Waker, even though I am not the biggest fan of toon Link. But not getting TP hurts the most.

Also, I will most likely not be able to afford that weird game & watch stuff that they are releasing. Not that I was interested in it.

Here's to still hoping that we just got trolled and that more things will come. Please, Nintendo. Please, Aonuma-san.

I ALWAYS TRY TO RESPOND TO COMMENTS!! I don't get a lot of them, but they make my day. <3 If someone had time to read my story and liked it enough to let me know, they deserve a conversation of gushing gibberish!!! I love talking about what I write to an annoying extent :)

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Always Cruel (OoT). It follows Sheik having to remind themself that they cannot reach out to Link when they miss him so desperately. A close second is By Your Side for Eternity (SS), but that one has comfort. A Glimpse Into the Past and Future (TOTK) is close behind, but it isn't really a romantic fic so I assume that's not what people first think of when they hear "angst fic." Same goes for A Change in the Wind (WW), which was a scene I wrote for practice writing fights; it ends with Tetra facing a future she doesn't want.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

An End to Calamity (BOTW), which takes place right after Calamity Ganon disappears. There's something about the beginning of closure for them both that gets me.

Not yet

9. Do you write smut?

Nope. Couldn't even if I wanted to, I don't get it personally LOL

No. They hurt my brain too much because I overthink everything (like clashing worldbuilding, vibes, rating/violence, powerscaling...).

...pokemon... It was a partial self insert fic based on my playthrough of one of the games and I am so grateful I never posted anything of it. (I say "partial" bc the trainer was all my headcanons for the protag and used the name I gave my trainer, so it was customized to be like I wanted and basically their own character but not entirely just me).

Characterization (I hope)...metaphors...horses....

I struggle with writing exposition/explaining plot points in a "show don't tell" way. I also change my mind a LOT and create extra work for myself. Finally, I'm slow!!!!!! I wish I could change that!

As Dusk Falls, for sure. TP holds a special place in my heart and that fic is really a love letter to the game and its characters (and its plot holes 😂).
