Pelipper Mail - Birthday Gifts for Polaris!!!!

A rather large package arrives. opening it reveals a bunch of gifts.

[The first is a rather large cake in a brown box. It. Looks cursed to say the very least.

The icing is menacingly red and clumpy and written on the top in blue is "Happy birth" with the rest of the word smudged off in travel. On top of the cake are the number candles 36. Pink sprinkles have been put atop it to make it look less menacing. Upon slicing and eating the cake you would find it actually was perfectly cooked and mixed, the decoration had just gone awry.

The first proper present is a landyard with a bunch of hisuian pokemon on it, and some keychains and badges already attached to it.

The second is a thick set of pink gloves with purple accents, and a matching pink gas mask, custom made to fit polaris.

The third is a bunch of Pochacco from Sanrio merch. Including a bracelet, a fluffy hat, and a plushie, along with a bunch of trinkets from a familiar arcade.

The fourth is some books, a book of poems, written in ancient Sinnohian, a childrens book about two cyndaquil going on adventures and a book on enamourus.

The fifth is a bunch of johtoian candy and parischu themed beanie with big blue spikes.

first of all, the cake made me laugh. congrats i am now a decade older. oh my. it tasted wonderful, despite its appearance.

Beedrill: The lanyard is lovely and very cute. I've put my keys on them, and as such will never lose them again. It's a very thoughtful gift. The keychains and pins are very sweet as well.

Casey: The gloves are very nice. I was thinking about buying a pair for myself and you beat me to it, so thank you very much. The pink gas mask is also very cool, and I'm sure it'll do me well when we inevitably introduce the stunky line to the sanctuary haha.

Tari: I remember your sanrio critters. You made Delta Kuromi i think. Pochacco is a very cute little character. I think you picked well for me. I'm wearing the bracelet on my lanyard, as I fear it would snap on my working hands. The plushie and the hat are very very soft and nice. And the arcade trinkets are wonderful, they will go straight on the shelf once im home

Delta: I've never seen nor heard of this book of poems. It's incredible Delta. And the cyndaquil book- I had a very similar one growing up. It's gone now of course but- You act like you aren't good at giving gifts but you are very adept. And the Enamorus book is also wonderful. They will give me wonderful things to read on the plane home. And of course a secret other thing. I shouldn't be surprised haha.

Sprite: Hello, my wonderful, loving son. I miss you so much. The beanie is very cute. There is a pachirisu litter who came into the sanctuary. They are named after stars. One of them is very sweet and a bit too comfortable with people. Will you laugh at me if I come home with her? She comes to my window and she makes me smile. I hope I can play video games with you soon.

And for all of you: I love you all so much, and I miss you dearly. I'm trying to come home as soon as I can, but I barely have the energy to get out of bed, let along push my wheelchair without- him. (Beedrill: I promise Bird is being well taken care of. She still sleeps by me and I read her bedtime stories.) I promise I will come home as soon as I am feeling better. I promise. Polaris grumbles from their bed, and Skie snorts, gently ushering Bird over to go properly wake up Polaris. Bird trots over to the bed, gently and shyly nudging at Polaris to get up. They sit up, rubbing their eyes and murmuring something unintelligible to Bird, who gives them a shy smile, and points to Skie.

(Polaris doesn't look well. Their hair is messy and tangled, and there are obvious tear streaks on their face.)

Skie counts to three, and xe and Bird break out in what seems to be a rendition of Happy Birthday in Ancient Sinnohian. Polaris' eyes go wide as they realize what's happening, and a small smile crosses their face. As the song ends, Skie brings the cake over to Polaris' lap, and Polaris lets Bird blow out the candles for them. Skie turns and gives a big grin and thumbs up to the camera.

NCT’s Taeyong on Roses, “Love Theory,” and His Solo Artistry

Roses adorn the tapestry of Lee Taeyong’s work. As a member of SM Entertainment’s multi-unit boy group NCT, whose social media makes a point of representing individual members with specific emojis, his photos are often succinctly captioned with a single red rose. Over the six years of his career, the 26-year-old leader of NCT 127 has come to embrace this symbol with increasing enthusiasm, and roses are now an integral part of his artistic identity.

They're the subject of “Rose,” a song released last year on his SoundCloud that he wrote in collaboration with Red Velvet’s Seulgi. A few months later, NCT 127’s vampire-themed comeback, “Favorite,” featured roses as a central motif. More recently, the visuals for his latest single with singer-rapper Wonstein, “Love Theory,” are similarly littered with red roses throughout.

When asked in 2019 to describe his performance style in one word, he chose the word “rose” accordingly, explaining that, on stage, he wants to be “as beautiful as and leave as strong of an impression as a rose.” It’s a bold statement of what the symbol means to him as an artist, but it didn’t always have this kind of significance.

“To be honest, I wasn’t so fond of roses in the beginning,” Taeyong tells Teen Vogue over Zoom. “First of all, I had a scar, it’s like that,” he says in English, as he turns his face to reveal a small scar next to his right eye. It’s the result of over-scratching as a child with atopy, a genetic immune response that makes him more likely to have allergic reactions. 

After he debuted, fans noticed that this small bloom on his face looked like a rose and compared it to his artistic style, calling him “대장장미 [dae-jang-jang-mi]”, or “boss of the roses.” “I really like that nickname, because it means that on the stage, I’m like a big rose,” he says. “Coming to understand that even my scar is something that our fans like, and packaged in a beautiful way by saying [it] is like a rose, was very meaningful for me.”

The metaphor is so apt that it is almost poetic. After all, roses continue to be celebrated in popular culture not just for their outward beauty, but for their complex duality. They have gorgeous, delicate petals, which express fragility and a desire to connect with the world, but also sharp, hardy thorns, which express strength and a desire to keep the world away. Their contradictory nature feels like a reflection of our own multitudes as human beings, and so we find roses enduringly beautiful precisely because they have both of these elements.

For Taeyong, the duality of this flower maps perfectly onto the stark contrast between his artistic persona and his day-to-day personality. On stage, his moves and gaze are sharp and refined to an extreme. In daily life, however, he is gentle and affable, and to a similar extreme. As NCT 127’s leader, he is professional, resilient, and grounded. Meanwhile, as a solo artist, he reveals a quietly sensitive and romantic side. The more you learn about him, the more these petals unfurl.

“When I’m on stage, in performance mode, I think I am good at expressing that kind of duality,” he muses. “But when I’m off stage, I think I’m actually kind of more like the petals of the rose. I’m mallang-mallang [soft, tender] and a bit more of a soft kind of person so… I think I have a vibe off stage which people would never think of when they see me on stage.”

Certainly, if you were to observe him solely through his performances, you might believe that only someone with a similarly sharp personality could possibly play this character so convincingly. But in fact, Taeyong has a surprisingly childlike side to him.

He’s known for being a homebody, and NCT’s YouTube content features him tending to plants on a rooftop farm and feeding his pet fish and shrimp while naming them after various fruits and Pokémon. His favorite color is pink, and he can regularly be seen sporting pink hair and fashion choices. He has a persistent sweet tooth, and can likewise regularly be seen with snacks of various kinds in hand.

There’s also a general sense of romanticism emanating from his entire demeanor. “I think you’re right in that… I think I am always imagining things,” he says, when I suggest this about him. “I have a lot of romantic dreams about life, and I’m always imagining how things could unfold in an interesting way whenever something happens. It’s like… I do have the feeling that I’m always dreaming. But a lot of that, the place where it happened was on stage, I think.”

Taeyong’s romantic view of life is neatly summarized in his love for Studio Ghibli movies. The Japanese animation studio is beloved for its ability to mix magical fantasy with deeply human stories, which celebrate the innocence of childhood and beauty of everyday life, while also embracing darker themes of pain and suffering.

In an interview with Nylon Korea, he compared himself to a Ghibli protagonist, explaining: “The main characters always seem to be a little different to other people, spending their time lonely and alone, but if you get to know them, they’re actually all good people. I’m talking about characters like Howl in Howl’s Moving Castle — I think I’m that kind of character.”

He’s similarly introspective in the way he approaches songwriting, which he compares with writing in a journal. He asks himself questions — many questions — about what he’s thinking, how he’s feeling, and why he’s thinking and feeling those things. His 2021 song, “Swimming Pool,” literally opens with a question: “What am I?” Likewise, “Love Theory” was born from conversations with Wonstein about what love is, and whether they’ve experienced it.

He’s also increasingly unafraid to grapple with his own darknesses. Songs like “Dark Clouds” and “Blue,” released on his SoundCloud last year, explored feelings of loneliness and being lost with more honesty and vulnerability than ever before. “They are songs that I made because I wanted to overcome those things,” he explains. “There were also a lot of songs that I made while thinking of words that I wished someone could say to me. I think I’ve made a lot of songs hoping that, through my lyrics and music, I could give comfort to the people out there who have been thinking the same thoughts that I have.”

It’s not surprising that someone with Taeyong’s kind of romanticism and introspection suffers from feeling lonely and lost in life. However, it’s also because this inner world is so rich that people like him revel and excel in exploring alternative forms of self-expression. For him, this has meant actively trying to grow as a multi-disciplined artist: creating personal spaces for experimentation, proactively taking on new challenges, and absorbing wisdom from the people around him. Slowly, these projects have given us a glimpse of the dreams and inner world that he is trying to bring to life.

He created his SoundCloud last year and followed it up with a YouTube channel this year, on which he uploaded a performance video for his self-written track with singer-songwriter Suran, “Lonely.” He also took the initiative to choreograph “Zoo,” a collaboration track between NCT and aespa, into a full dance performance, and its dance challenge has subsequently gone viral. Recently, Taeyong featured on Suran’s “Diamonds” with a Ghibli-inspired verse, and for “Love Theory,” he immersed himself fully in the creative process by helping to write the song, come up with ideas for the music video, and choreograph the dance.

All of the challenges that he’s taken on have helped him find joy and growth. “The more that I can do, the happier I feel,” he says enthusiastically. “So, because I felt a lot of happiness from doing these projects, I’m very much looking forward to being able to use what I’ve learnt to do even more things... And then in the process of doing those things, I hope that I’ll feel that happiness again.”

It’s this kind of self-initiated drive that helped Taeyong evolve from a trainee with zero dancing or singing experience at 18 years old, who by his own admission could not dance a single move properly, into one of the central figures of NCT’s debut lineup at 21. The group’s pioneering subunit, NCT U, arrived on the world stage six years ago with “The 7th Sense,” a slow, eerie, hip-hop-influenced track which remains to date one of NCT’s, SM’s, and the entire K-pop industry’s best. In it, Taeyong, Mark, Doyoung, Jaehyun, and Ten sing about waking up from one dream, as a new and different one approaches.

Since then, NCT’s trajectory has been fascinating. Having struggled to gain momentum in their early years due to their uber-futuristic sound and the complexity of their multi-unit concept, 2020 finally saw the group make a monumental rise to become the second-most mentioned K-pop group on Twitter. NCT 127’s martial-arts-themed “Kick It” went viral, and their three subunits, NCT 127, NCT Dream, and WayV, were also united for the first time with NCT 2020’s album, Resonance. The group now regularly sees album sales break millions.

“To be honest, just like how people found NCT’s concept difficult to understand at first, we also experienced difficulties, but… I think it was also the reason that we were able to really come together as one,” he says, reflecting on their journey. “I feel like, along the way, what we want to do and the goals that we want to achieve together also became a little clearer to us. For a long time, even before debuting, I always dreamed of being part of a team that could last, and I feel like we are doing really well right now, so I’m very satisfied… I think we’ve all arrived at a point where we feel stable.”

Looking back on “The 7th Sense,” it’s hard to reconcile 20-year-old Taeyong — a boy with a gaze as coolly intense as the ice-blue light which illuminates him — with the bright-eyed, innocent 26-year-old of “Love Theory,” draped in pink with a rose in hand, who wants to understand what love is. Most artists demonstrate the opposite trajectory, shifting from innocence towards strength, but Taeyong’s form of maturation is no less meaningful. In accepting himself for who he is and letting the world see it all, vulnerabilities included, he is also showing us that he was never just a thorn; he is, and always was, a rose.

That process of blooming is a work in progress. Five years ago, when he was just entering his twenties, he told Nylon Korea: “It’s a dream of mine to collect many different experiences and build up my knowledge of various things, so that I can become an adult who is like an adult.” Now that he’s approaching 27, those feelings are a little more complicated.

“I’ve always lived thinking that I want to become a good adult, but… I feel like I still don’t think of myself as one,” says Taeyong, hesitantly. “My personal greed doesn’t seem to want me to become a good adult, so... How do I say… I know that if you want to become a good adult, you have to give up a lot of things, and I think it’ll take a little more time before I am able to do that.”

He means that there are still things out there that he wants to pursue, or perhaps things inside him he doesn’t want to let go of. He calls it greed; they sound like dreams.

- One time, the two girls feel asleep inside Rebecca’s bed at the Le Grand Paris, all snuggled up to one another with their heads buried in the crooks of each other’s neck, nuzzling against there and (sometimes) pecking little kisses there while they’re sleeping. Chloe fangirled and took pictures, sending them to both Adrien and Marinette. (14 and 16.)

- Despite their height difference, Emma knows how to throw Rebecca over her shoulders and carry her around places. She’s a strong little lady. (all ages.)

- One time, when they both had bite marks on their necks, they begged for Maddie and Vivienne not to tell their parents. They threatened to do so, but Maddie said she wouldn’t tattle if they gave her $100 in Monopoly money. Rose ended up concealing their bites, and Chloe, Kim, Adrien and Mari never found out. Well, until they were 21 and 23, that is. (ages 16 and 18.)

- When they reveal their relationship to the other girls, no one is surprised. They knew Rebecca was bi and that Emma was lesbian. Well, all of them except for Maddie. She was oblivious AF the entire time and shocked. She was horribly ashamed and had a stupid breakdown to Tikki. (13 and 15)

- When it’s incredibly early in the morning and Emma gets up, Rebecca protests by wrapping her arms around her and turning her over to kiss her. Emma tries to fight it, but gives in because she loves her (and kisses). (19 and 21)

- Maddie was the clingiest sister/in-law/best friend ever when they got married. Taking a million selfies/pictures with them and ranting about how their kids would be cousins (she was like, seven months pregnant at the time with her own baby), along with how Rebecca was never ever going to escape her now that they’re sisters-in-law. She sings ‘Never Ever Getting Rid Of Me’ from Waitress on Stage to prove her point to Becky (better enough, name of a character from the musical lol, I am SCREAMING), with the help of Luka, Nino, and Ivan to do instruments and a track. Everyone else is cracking up from laughter, including her best friends, sister and sister-in-law, along with her parents and husband. (22 and 24)

- Kara’s dirty mind/jokes don’t harm/bother them. They’re both females, so both of them are immune to her humor. (all ages)

- Emma burns their marriage certificate, and when Rebecca asks her why, she says ‘Now, you can’t return me without a receipt!’. Rebecca sobs in panic and calls Maddie wailing, resulting in her cursing out Emma for twenty minutes straight. (21 and 23)

- Rebecca calls Emma an idiot, but she points to her wedding ring and says ‘Yeah, I’m your idiot - forever!’ and they both lose it laughing. (23 and 25)

- Rebecca protests that when she goes away for the week to do soccer camp, Emma will be alright - cue her sneezing from seventy miles away. Rebecca freaks out and says she’ll be there in an hour. Vivienne says ‘I think I’m dying inside’, and Rebecca responds with ‘then suffer in silence’. (15 and 17)

- Rebecca’s nickname for Emma is Emmiekins or Kitty Kat, and Emma calls her Honeybee. Chloe and Marinette melt from the cuteness like the proud mothers they are. (all ages)

- When they go to Sweet Scoops with the other girls, Emma asks for a milkshake with two straws. Rebecca blushes profusely and asks her why she’d do such a thing, amazed by her sweetness - until Emma slurps down the shake with two straws by herself and Rebecca is slightly disappointed, but also amused by her fiancee’s silliness. (20 and 22)

- When they’re out on missions at ages sixteen and fourteen, Maddie asks them ‘are you fighting or flirting?’. They respond with ‘Yes’. (all the time.)

- Emma complains at school in the morning (thirteen at the time) about how she didn’t sleep. Maddie tells her, ‘you know that means someone is thinking about you, right?’. Emma doesn’t believe her, and says, ‘Who would think about me in the middle of the night?’. Rebecca panics on the floor while Victoria and Vivienne try to soothe her from her very bi panic attack. (13 and 16)

- On their one year wedding anniversary, they have a party to celebrate and Emma says ‘One year later and we’re still in love’. Rebecca says ‘Yeah! In your face, those who said we wouldn’t last a year!’. Jade’s only protest is ‘I stand by my wedding toast I spoke without being drunk’ while eyeing Kara, who was hilariously drunk at the reception, who is now embarrassed. (23 and 25)

- Kara dedicates a whole new set of jokes to them, and they’re not sure whether to feel flattered or embarrassed. But when Kara brings up how Emma gets turned on when Rebecca curses, they both blush bright red and run the hell away. (14-almost-15 and 17)

- They dress up as Haruka and Michiru from Sailor Moon for their first Halloween as wives. Jade screams and cries because she’s so proud of them. (22 and 24)

- Rebecca and Emma say they both appreciate the little things in life. They then hug Jade, who screams ‘F**k you both, I’m not that short!’. Kailie and Kara burst out in laughter and roll over, Vivienne snickers but tries to hide it, and Maddie applauds them. (14 and 16)

- Emma calls Rebecca dramatic. She says she isn’t, while wearing a handcrafted/made dress with the Kitty Noire and Queen Bee colors with a red rose in between her teeth, down on the floor with a bouquet of 300 roses in all of the different colors clutched in her hands. Emma is blushing like mad while Maddie swoon-melts, Kayla laughs, and Vivienne smiles. (19 and 21)

- Rebecca says to Vivienne that Emma is incredibly cool, and not because of her status. Being the naive innocent bean she is, Vivienne tells her bestie that she doesn’t have to think lowly of herself and that she’s an awesome person too. Rebecca’s response is ‘I’m not ragging on myself, I’m channeling the side of me that’s extremely gay’ and Vivienne shuts the f up. (13 and 15)

- Rebecca says to Emma ‘would you date someone that looks and acts like me?’, and she responds ‘why do you ask, know anybody?’. Rebecca gets really pissed and screeches at the top of her lungs ‘Because I love you, you dumbass cat’. Emma says ‘oh’ three times and is shocked, then she tackles Rebecca onto the floor and hugs her, and they forget everything else, say ‘f**k it’ and start making out. Jade, Vivienne and Maddie remind them where they are (the hotel), but they couldn’t care less. (13 and 15.)

- When their first child (girl) is born, Rebecca suggests they name her Hannah. Emma, being the stupid, pun-making kitty chat she is, plays the Hannah Montana theme and dances around, while her wife and sister shake their heads and laugh at her. (ages 24 and 26.)

- Chloe and Vivienne see Rebecca with a car-sized photo frame that has a picture of Emma in it. They ask her what she has, and holding a cake box in her other hands, she answers ‘a cake’. Sabrina and Kim are crying from laughter in the background while Victoria says ‘subtle, Kim’. (I’m an iCarly fan, lol.) (Emma’s sixteenth birthday, she’s 18.)

- When Tom and Sabine sit down with their granddaughter and her GF for the first time, they call her their other grandchild and she cries of happiness. Emma consoles her and gives her a kiss, while Tom and Sabine are convinced they hurt Rebecca’s feelings. (16 and 13-almost-14.)

- Considering how many stupid things Emma says, Rebecca states that she’s morosexual, meaning she’s attracted to idiots. Emma then asks ‘why is the Pink Panther pink?’, and Rebecca pushes her into her bedroom, taking her clothes off and calling Em a f**king idiot. (ages 17 and 19.)

- Just having seen Emma’s swimsuit photoshoots, Rebecca requests for Vivienne and Nathaniel to draw works of art for her. When they ask what, she responds ‘Emma in a bikini’ and they die of embarrassment. (17 and 19)

- When they got caught inside a closet by their friends, Jade had a nosebleed, Maddie screamed ‘ships are happening’ and Vivienne came in, crashing down the door and screaming ‘where are the ships’ at the top of her lungs. (ages 20 and 22.)

- When she wasn’t sure whether her feelings were true or not, Emma goes to Juleka and Rose to ask them about her love for Rebecca. They ship it so hard and give her happy, kind and supporting advice and she is so very flattered.

- And finally, when Rebecca graduates from high school, Tom and Sabine are there, standing up and screaming ‘THAT’S OUR GRANDDAUGHTER!!! SHE’S GRADUATING!!!!’ and them along with Adrien and Marinette are so proud of her. Chloe, Kim, their other three children and Chloe’s parents are cheering for her too, watching the Dupain-Chengs and Agrestes with smiles. Rebecca tears up and hugs Maddie and Emma, then she hugs Tom and Sabine. Tom almost comes close to suffocating her by mistake, but stops when realizing. (16 and 18)

K, so I’ve never watched Riverdale before (well like half an episode on tv once) but I heard there was a musical episode themed on Heathers.  

So I watched it…and accidentally started writing a really long play-by-play analysis:

So, frequently, a disembodied voice is just singing and matches nobody on screen, like they don’t seem to concerned with getting the right person on screen lip-syncing at the right moment.

The voices of Cole and lilli (and most of them) sound like they were recorded so separately and in completely different ways, ones more breathy, others are echoey, some have autotune…hmm

Also someone pointed out that when you get to the “your eyes can’t we be seeeventeeeeeeen” line, Cole’s voice changes so drastically it has got to be somebody else.  I totally agree.

Sometimes the background music (not heathers) sounds like a western movie.  Like somebody just got challenged to a show down at high noon.

 Overall:  pretty messy. No one really plays a specific character so it’s hard to gain any of the character growth that they get in the actual musical.  No one’s vocal style matches like at all.  The new lyrics and tons of edits were odd. The sound mixing was bad I think, like everything stuck out and didn’t match. This show is hilariously broody and they all have such funny names. Camilla whatshername is a good singer, actually the main 3 girls are p good, and the Kevin guy.

Your story is a never-ending circle of hellos and goodbyes.

Every time he comes, you die a little. The closer he is, the weaker you are. But you can't resist the push and pull, it's too strong and you just stand there, waiting, in a white frothy dress and pink flowers in your hair. Anticipation is eating you up but you don't have to wait long. It happens practised, like clockwork: the door undergrown by tree branches opens on time and a slight tremble rushes through your body as the cold wind sweeps under your sunkissed skin.

A tall figure steps out of the grape and chestnut scented room and elegantly as ever, he makes his way down the marble stairs. Straight towards you without hesitation or any second thought. It drains and suffocates you, the closeness, but you know he feels it, too. You have learnt to live with the heavy burden on your chest a long time ago. Yet, you let out a shuddery breath when he stops an arm-length away from you. You are not sure though whether it's out of relief or disappointment.

“Long time no see,” he greets you, his raspy voice a little cold and distant but the slightest warmth is mirrored in his falling leaves coloured eyes. He looks refreshed, wide awake after sleeping for six lunar months. It is indeed a long time. Even for you, eternal creatures.

“Yes,” you nod with a painful smile, fingers mindlessly tapping on the thorns of the flowers in your hand. You are not capable of bleeding but you wonder, if they opened up your chest, would your heart bleed carmine love?

It's always like that. Bittersweet moments of small talks, avoiding the obvious, never addressing the elephant in the room. Of course, it always has to be that one who you can't have. Even immortals aren't smarter than foolish humans hoping for more than they can get.

You watch the sadness shift and turn in Younghyun's beautiful orbs, the ache written clearly in the wrinkles of his eternally young features and the nostalgia in every swift move of his. You love the sound of melancholy dancing in his voice, the evanescence in his bones, the mystery of his being.

He is like autumn itself: one part warmth, three parts cold. As time goes by he’s rougher and lonelier. Ruthless with storms in his eyes and harsh words dancing on his lips. The nature dies under his watch but he directs it so beautifully like a conductor with a grand orchestra playing Vivaldi all majestic and flawless, like a painter working on an empty canvas, spilling fierce reds, vivid oranges, sorrowful yellows and all kind of browns all over it, painting a colourful chaos pleasing to look at or like a writer typing a story so angst that it tugs on the readers’ heartstrings making them cry but adore his work.

He is one of the creators of withering and you were born to help the world bloom. You two are the same yet you couldn't be any more different: like the day and the night, the sun and the moon. One cannot exist without the other but you cannot exist at the same time in the same place. You are circling around each other like bees around flowers rich in nectarine.

“How has the summer been so far?” he asks and you say: “Hot.”

Colder without you, you mean which is a paradox in itself but you know better. He may bring cool breezes or even vicious hurricanes, but his loving arms keep you sound and safe. Metaphorically, of course.

You look up at sun shining high in the sky, providing the longest period of daylight today of all days of the year. It's the day he wakes up and you go to sleep leaving you only precious moments to meet. The summer and winter solstice, you can only see each other during these events. You miss the autumnal equinox, he misses the spring one. Because that's just who you are: spirits of seasons, guardians of the balance.

“I made you something.” Still lost in your thoughts you find your voice and it's sweet and airy as you lift the flower crown in your hands to eye-level.

“You shouldn’t have,” Younghyun mumbles, his stiff features morphing into apologetic already.

“I wanted to,” you whisper bashfully and standing on your tiptoes, you gently place the crown on his head, careful not to touch him. You are dangerously close and the way he looks at you is so intense, it makes you tremble.

You can't explain the longing in your heart but you have lived long enough to know that this isn't like the respect or fear that you feel towards the spirits of summer and winter. This is something more, a little more intimate and you wonder if anyone ever felt this way. Like the sun that loves the moon so much he dies everyday just to see her shine. Can it be real, a love like this?

Even gods and goddesses aren't immune to love and they are not supposed to be but in your case, it's not that easy. What would happen to the balance? You can't even touch each other without causing a little havoc, messing up the seasons’ order. But of course, everybody yearns for the forbidden fruit. It's something humans took after the deities.

You watch in silence as the flowers in Younghyun's hair change colours and wither in front of your eyes leaving nothing but a thorny circle of branch. You knew it would happen since everything he touches, slowly dies. While you, you are the definition of everything that blossoms and flourishes and wherever you go, flowers bloom. Sometimes you recklessly think about what would happen if you two made love. Would his powers kill you, bare you from your existence, make you grow cold and lifeless? Or would you plant flowers of love in his lungs making it hard for him to breathe?

Silly, silly thoughts. You cast your eyes down at your risky daydreams and Younghyun's voice is soothing when he speaks up:

“Are you tired?”

You nod as honest as you can be. His presence makes you even sleepier.

“You know I am. It's your turn to take the stake,” you force out an encouraging smile but sorrow is evident in your light voice. “But I wish I could stay longer.”

“It's okay,” he says understanding. Nobody can say no to the laws of nature. You are no exception. That's the saddest thing: you are supposed to be deities, yet here you are, slaves of the nature.

“Rest well, petal,” he smiles at you and your heart aches. He has such a beautiful immortal soul, it makes you want to fall in love with him even more.

You don't say anything while he accompanies you to the rose and cherry blossom scented room and from the door he watches you lie down on your bed of flowers.

He is the last thing you see before you close your eyes and you know he will be the first one when you wake up. You just have to wait for another autumn to pass to meet again but until then, you hope to dream about him and the beauty of autumn you have only seen in him.
