why. did I have a cup of oolong tea just because the pot was made? now I am more awake instead of my natural sleepy and I'll have to take a thing. at least my back seems to have calmed down a bit. it did a couple of spasmy things earlier that were not fun for me, but I should be okay since I still have another day off. @diphthongsfordays @josephinegerardywriter
ignore (dirt in the doing)
"Are you just another Jet, now? You go around picking fights because you’re mad at the world?”
Wait, hang on. What? That’s not- Jet doesn’t pick fights because he’s mad at something else. If he throws a punch at someone it’s because he wants to throw a punch at that person. Even in a random fight. He chooses his opponent, and then they’re his enemy. He’ll take them down. His anger at the world is another thing entirely.
Neon text seems to flash across his brain spelling “hypocrite!” but he chooses to ignore it.
wheel (micro story written by my friends and me)
Long ago in a space village there was a purple monkey. The monkey's name was Frederic Zebo II. He was the captain of the starship Zagoth. But his ship had no steering wheel. I can't describe what happened next. Just kidding, the ship crashed and everyone in it had a great bounce. They crawled out of the ship and saw a rubber duck army sergeant. This sergeant was the greatest duck in the force and an expert marksman. But the duck had lost his arms/wings in battle and was confined to a wheelchair. I wish social workers took care of him from henceforth on, but the government budget was slashed and he lived in solitude. The End.
straight (the sleepy stash, 2022)
I like people that are unburied, because I can talk in regular tones and get straight to the point: hi, nice to meet you, don’t mind me founding your family. But the buried ones are not to be neglected, and I can love them as much as they let me and when they poke their heads above the soil I’ll smile bright as the sun.
And for things that are not people, I don’t mind either way, unless someone is shoveling back the dirt that I just took out and it’s a struggle to reach the treasure I’m seeking for not because it’s very hidden, but because someone is working against me.
But! Not all things should be unburied, and some of them are not meant to be mine. And that’s alright.
shout nah I don't like my options and I'm not opening something else
brave no no I don't like these either why is nobody brave
cover (the wushanju diaries - I love this found family so much)
The first week into his stay at Wushanju, Pangzi gifts him a journal.
“Xiaoge and I picked it out together,” Pangzi says proudly, holding it out toward Liu Sang with a grin. “He said the color suits you.”
Liu Sang takes the journal, inspecting the sage-dyed leather of the cover and the yellowed pages. They’re lined on one side and blank on the other. “He said that?”
“Don’t sound so skeptical. Xiaoge can talk when he wants to. I said we should get you a welcome home present, and then Xiaoge looked at me and I said, ‘yes, of course, I meant what I said, it’s a welcome home present because this was always your home and you just didn’t know it yet,’ and Xiaoge went and found this by himself. I wanted to get you the blue one, since it looked bright and happy, but Xiaoge said, ‘green for Liu Sang,’ and who am I to deny Xiaoge’s excellent judgment! So you better like it.”
glow (the sleepy stash, 2022)
do you only glow when I cover you up because you've kept it a secret for me? can't be. I know you glow when I'm not looking. but I like it. I like to be just one reason. I want you to glow for anything you feel. and if you feel me-
thank you.
sympathy (soaked-through, see-through, 2021)
Quench the rabid questions burning brands into my skin And write the dissatisfaction on my gravestone for my next of kin If it rains any harder I'll think the sky is full of sympathy The clouds won't part tonight, so again, the moon won't speak to me I'll dance while you can't see me and I'll roam the gloam forever Curse this miserable weather
cook(strawberry & sugar, 2021)
Taehyun has a backpack that is so full it looks like it might just sink him down into the floor by wearing it. Beomgyu instantly offers him a glass of lemonade and Yeonjun refrains from scolding him because he remembers heavy backpacks.
Beomgyu talks a lot as a rule but after meeting Taehyun, Yeonjun thinks that he just never shuts up. even on the days when Beomgyu doesn’t work, he comes around, and now he brings Taehyun with him.
“Soobin, you should hire Taehyun. he’s good with numbers and he doesn’t give people free food. also he can cook.” Beomgyu is so serious that he isn’t even shouting.

Ask game
1. Where did you hide the body??
Me: *pause* No, where did you hide the body—
*police stare at me with disbelief*
Me: there’s no—there’s not a single body here—well stop looking at me like that, you’re the cop! You should know! Why are you asking me for! Body? Whaaaaaat. Ahaha.
*cops shake head*
*whispers to my friend* Guys I think I pulled that one off
Police: you know we can hear everything you’re saying
me: 👁👄👁
2. Favorite rock? The 1975. Dominic Fike. Arctic Monkeys. Bad Suns. The killers. Pale Waves. Etc. That good good shit 👌
3. Most aesthetic season? Fall. Love them orange colors. The leaves falling. Though spring is also neat if you have a bunch of flowers bloomin in shit and winter is only aesthetic when it’s snowing. Boring ass summer tho just be heating me up.
4. When texting do u shorten words or spell out? I used to write stuff out all the time mostly but now it’s like half and half bcuz its just faster and nobody got time for it 🤣🤣
5. Vintage stuff? Hell yeah, but maybe not anything too expensive since some old stuff IS hyper expensive.
6. Colors that pop or blend? Not sure I understand what u mean abt them blending ahaha u mean like when they’re so similar to another?? Well I think it’s nice but honestly I prefer a pop and a bang, y’Know?
- At this moment I realized I was answering the last few questions from a completely different ask and felt like a dumbass 😂 anyways the actual number we’re on is three so imma just kickback
3. Worst dream u have ever had? I had sleep paralysis but was imbetween that and a lucid dream. At first I was paralyzed and could see my bed but my eyes felt closed and open at the same time?? A giant dark demon looking dog had towered over me and began to tear at my neck. It looked and felt very real I started to try to scream and it felt like a scream was coming out but no sound exited. Then I went into a lucid dream where I was being chased by this dog and running for my life I was running by and nobody could save me nobody in the dream when it caught up to me I was back in my bed and it was trying to eat me again. I was so terrified I couldn’t sleep for a whole week.
4. Lyric that comes to your mind? “And I don’t think I can be there. I’m paralyzed,I’m terrified of being alone. When you said I deserved what had happened.”
5. Blood make u uncomfortable? Yes, I passed out once when getting my finger pricked and a VERY small blood sample and another when dissecting a fish.
6. Even or odd numbers? Well I like the number 5,7,9, 3 so odd. (Like me 🤣🤣)
7. Something I hate that I love? Anything I’ve ever loved becuz love can be frustrating. Bruh.
8. 1st initial of someone I hate? Hmm...do I hate someone tho? Not that I can think of...
9. *Skipping down the lane* NOPE
10. Corn dogs? It’s funny cuz when I think of corn dogs my mind will always go to when we first moved to our current house because at our initial town we never had Sonic and while we were getting the house fixed up and moving stuff we use to always get Sonic since it was the closest to us most times to eat and that was a bunch of corn dogs and hotdog days 🤣 so thnk u corn dogs for ur service
11. I’m not a huge movie person so...I looked up movies from 2005 and movies Inlike from this time are Brokeback mountain bcuz it’s gay af, Shark Boy and Lava Girl damn I rewatched the shot out of it when I was younger, Narnia and the Chocolate Factory(although it low key creeped me out as a kid, and idk why).
12. Least fav music genre? Most country, most EDM, dubstep, screaming/really hard rock, some pop music, mumble raping.
13. As someone who waits on tables, my job is my least favorite restaurant experience 🤣🤣 just dealing with ppl...like ok, I’m half Hispanic right?? But I look white. Well, I work at a Mexican restaurant and so sometimes racist costumers will say shady shit just bcuz I guess they think it’s appropriate to say it to me just bcuz I’m not Hispanic in their eyes?? But it pisses me off and I feel like I can’t say anything without causing a drama which I hate and when the “costumers always right” it can be hard to budge and stand up and say “bitch wtf did u just say??” And there’s just folks who take things the wrong ways or ask too much at once or give u a hard time or just say something that sticks onto you for the whole day. One bad move can turn my whole day upside down.
14. 3 things never come near me? Cockroaches, Needles, and close mind ppl
15. Worst way to die? With regrets. Something really brutual, random, or where something just happened to go wrong (accident). Being killed by someone u love.
16. Unusual habits? Doing a Michael Jackson esque “hee-hee” after every sneeze I make, being extremely clumsy and making every task 100% more difficult, having the ability to talk as if I have an accent that comes from nowhere in particular just stupidity also I can’t speak my own language half the time 🙃getting words confused or misusing them in a sentence so I sound dumb having a very weird imagination and thoughts, I swear it like I never went to school and don’t know how the world works, plus many many more
17. Clothing style u want? I want to dress in a way that screams who I am and is a blend of both femininity and masculinity. A little vintage. Grunge. Urban maybe?? What do I know abt fashion 🤣🤣
18. Song or artist that deserves more? Dijon, hands down. I love his stuff. He’s like Frank Ocean meets light-singing beautiful lyricist with a more rock vibe?? Hidden gem. I also think Durand Jones & the Indications needs more love along with BadBadNotGood they sound like old-times but are new!! Oh, and Pale Waves is like a female The 1975 and kicks it. Bad Suns is a good alt rock band that no one seems to recognize :,D Toro y Moi too! His song with Flume “The difference “ is a banger!! Kid Cudi is my man when I want a blend of rock and rap. Also Dominic Fike,King Krule, and Roy Blair, who are all amazing!! Ok I need to stop 🛑
Duck I answered the past questions from a different post I’m sorry 😐
17. Emoji never used? There’s a bunch since I reuse the same over and over again. Lmao
18. 3 sentence Gatorade horror story? A faint quiver overtook the small freezer the Gatorade lay in; no one had come by in days, hours, weeks; when was the last time he met the lips of a thirsty body? They’d forgotten about him, as his last sips remained glued to his hollowing entrance. ‘Help, ‘it wanted to say, but it’s frozen lips could not be moved; It’d stay here, die here...just like the rest.” What am I doing with my life 🤣🙏
19. Do u know what an old bay is? A bay that is old? And old ocean? Idk!!!

31. Someone real who scares u. 2 of my ex friends. One when I was 10 said disturbing things and I was kinda forced onto the friendship and everything they said make me fear for others lives...and then a different ex friend who seemed normal at 1st but became both low key psychopath cult leader type stuff and I booed out of there—-.
32. Run or hide? Uhh probably hide because I’d say even if ppl say “u can run but u can’t hide” u CAN just hide! that’s the point of hiding they not find u xD also why not combine them? Hide then run somewhere far away once I got them off the trial.
33. Last person who made u angry? A frickin beetle that flew at me and pinched me in the middle of singing in the shed xD also my autocorrect

Anyone whose trying to learn anew language k n o w s that sometimes words can be so close to another u just confuse then! So apparently churros in Spanish is a desert but if u say it more harshly (it literally sounds almost the same) it makes a whole different meaning—diharrea, but like I didn’t know that so I legit just walked up to this person and asked if they would like some shit to eat. ITS HECKIN TWISTED APPRECIATION WEEK SO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS (part 1/2)
“YEAH THAT’S RIGHT I’M GONNA YELL ABOUT THE SOUNDTRACK LIKE I DID LAST WEEK BC TWISTED IS A GOOD HECKING MUSICAL WITH A GOOD HECKING SOUNDTRACK
(Now with favorite lines! bc why not, right?) (favorite lines either there bc I like the lyrics in that part or I really like how it sounds within the song)
I’m not a professional music person (I’ve been in band for several years and I’m pretty good, but I don’t know anything about music theory or anything abt singing) but AH WELL, I LIKE RANTING ABT MY SPECIAL INTERESTS AND THE INTERNET IS A GOOD PLACE TO FEEL LIKE I’M TALKING TO SOMEONE, SO HERE WE GO
(also there’s definitely going to be Twisted spoilers under the cut (for act one, at least), so watch out if you haven't seen it)
(also also I split this into two parts bc it’s getting late and as you can see by how this progresses, I got sleep deprived quickly plus it got way too long. This is part one with all the first act songs, part two will have the second act songs and should be up by tomorrow.)
OK THE OPENING NUMBER RIGHT?? THE INSTRUMENTALS?? THE HARMONIES??? THE GENERAL SAJKFDASJKFHDSJK???!?!? Like, it literally sounds like a Disney song but they cuss! It’s amazing!! (And all the citizens?? Comedy gold, every one of them, I swear) (AND THE FUCKINGJDSJKJDSKL SOPRANO PART???!? I’M C R Y I N G I FORGOT WHAT HER NAME WAS BUT SHES SUCH A GOOD SINGER THANK YOU FOR YOUR VOICE)
Favorite lines:
“May the Rats ejaculate upon you!” “Thank you, thank you very much!”
“Why is everyone in the kingdom white?” “Uhh... Jafar?”
“But ugliness permits a man to use his wits, ‘cause pretty people never have to try”
“UGLY OLD JAFAR!!”
pretty much the whole song past the line “Why am I the only one who sees things as they are?”
Specifically “I want to be a cat!” “Wha-” “FUCK YOU!”
But more specially “Whistle while you swallow a spoonful of sugar and your dreams will come true upon a star!!!!” bc OH MY GOD IT’S BEAUTIFUL
Everyone listing how they want Jafar to die
ALSO SPECIALLY THE LAST 30 SECONDS BC AHJSAHJKADS (everything at and past the lines “and if we dream a little harder/ our patience and our honor...” etc.)
OK I STEAL EVERYTHING TIME! ULTIMATE CHAOS SONG, AND I LOVE. BE THE EVIL GREMLIN YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD. Also: the jazziness?? the opening instrumentals??? it’s so good. To the people playing the instrumentals for this musical: ,,,thank you,,,.,. (Also I learned recently that most of Jeff’s songs are in my range so guess who’s gonna try and learn this song?)
Favorite lines:
“Fetch, ya fucks!”
Did I mention the instrumentals?? bc hfhhhjdklsajk They seem simple but they’re also going ham and I love it
“Monkey thought we should just kill you, but I said ‘No, monkey, that’s crazy’ but now I’m thinking, yeah, no more fucking raisins...’“
“Thanks but no, thanks, ‘The Man’“
Honestly every line in this is golden, but I can’t put them all in and that sucks
“You’re only in trouble if you get caught!” “Aladdin?” “I’m in trouble!”
“Just one question, why, man?” “’Cause you stole my daughter’s hymen!” “That’s completely fair, but, in my defense, dude, your daughter’s hot!”
EVERYTHING AND MOOREE!!! SHE WANTS IT ALL AND I’M CRYING BC SHE SOUNDS BEAUTIFUL WHILE DOING SO. (I just realized that there’s 14 songs on this soundtrack and I’m sorry in advance for how long this post A) already is and B) is going to get) This song is so dramatic and that somehow fits the mood of her character and I love it so much and just ahdshjkds. Also it’s just?? So pretty????
Favorite lines:
“But it’s just like, whatever”
“I just want to be free so badly! You slaves could never understand. :(”
“You’re probably thinking, she’s got everything. Well, it’s true, ‘cause I do, but so the fuck what?”
“I WANT THE MOON! I WANT TO LIVE ON THE MOON! And eat it in a pie! And keep it as a pet! and wear it like a gemstone in my hair!”
“As I laugh in their faces of moonbeam pie!!”
“It’s enough to make me with I were lowly and poor... But like... with money!”
THA GOLDEN FUCJKLCIODIGN RULE. LIKE HOLY SHIT I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. AND THE DANCING THEY DO WITH IT IN THE SHOW ITSELF??? IT’S THE BEST. THE FIUCUING BEST. I’M CRYING. THE DANCING IS SO GOOD. AND SO IS THIS SONG. Also, it’s the #1 Starkid song I’d be comfortable showing to my mom, which is a definite plus! (I could also show this to my church pastor and he’d?? definitely like it, so that’s also a definite plus) And everyone’s so nice to Jafar, espically compared to the opening number and it just makes me so sad and let me give Jafar a hug, goddammit. ALSO also please let me meet the saxophone player and shake his hand, I don’t play saxophone but what he’s doing here is amazing. WAIT ALSO ALSO ALSO MAY I MEET THAT FLUTE PLAYER BC I’M JUST NOW HEARING THE FLUTE (AND HOW DID I NOT NOTICE IT BEFORE, I PLAY THAT INSTRUMENT???) AND I’M FUCJKIGDFONG HOLY SHIT JSUT FUCKINGJDSJKL ;BOUNCE AROUND ON THOSE NOTES WHY DON’T YOU I’M SAJDSKCDSJS
Favorite lines:
“Why it’s as easy as a 1,2,3,4!”
“Always treat others like sisters and brothers!”
all of the lines just sound so good, I can’t choose
The way Dylan Saunders says “Man” that that first time, like holy shit
The whole conversation between Omar and the thief
[completely monotone] “My hunger blinded me and forced me to act like an animal.”
AND THEN OMAR AND THE THIEF SING THE PART AND IT SOUNDS SO GOOD
The “boop boop bop doop zeep do-wow!” in the background during that part
“Good luck Jafar! And! Re! Mem! Ber!”
And then the whole ensemble sings it and it sounds so good
oh good god we’re not even 5 songs in yet i’m so sorry
GOLDEN RULE: EVIL REPRISE, OR, AS I CALL IT, “GOLDEN RULE WENT EMO BUT I STILL LOVE AND SUPPORT THEM”. Those dissonant sounds at the beginning? beautiful. All the random evil laughter? amazing. Whatever the heck the saxophonist is doing at the end? breathtaking, give me more. Joe Walker’s voice?? just fucking dhdsfjkfdlashjdsfklhfdsjkl
Favorite lines:
“Lets him rule the land WITH an iron fist!”
“The prize for winning? MORE GOLD, HAHA! And the game begins again!”
[sarcastically] “’Follow the golden rule’? Boy don’t be such a fool!”
“Follow the gold! Follow the gold! Follow the gold!” “AND RUUULE!!”
DID I MENTION THAT FUCKING SAXOPHONE PLAYER BC DUDE FUCKING AHSDJKDFS
the final “And Rule!”
Don’t be fooled bc this one is so short, it’s nearing midnight for me and also this song is really short. In reality, I fucking love this song and it’s one of my absolute favorite starkid villain songs and also one of my absolute favorites from this musical.
A THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS IS SOME FUCKINGNDSKLJ; GOOD SHIT I’M. Also, I don’t listen to it enough, so I’m giving y’all a running commentary as I listen to it for the first time outside of watching the whole musical 1) I love accidentals and key changes, and i’m,,, crying just the first verse is so good already, why haven’t I listened to this song enough 2) I’M CRYING I WANT TO KNOW THEIR STORY TOO THIS IS WHAT LOVE IS I’M CRYINGHJFDSJKSD 3) they keep using the word “’twist” and i’m ahsdhjkds bro 4) DYLAN YOUR VOICE. YOUR VOICE, IT’S TOO GOOD. IT MUST BE STOPPED, YOU’RE TOO GOOD, DYLAN 5) “LINGER OVER EVERY PART” OH MAN IT SOUDNS SO GOOD. SO GOOD. AHHHHHHDSHJDSFKLHJK 6) OK I’M LIKE ACTUALLY CRYINGN NOW THEY’RE IN LOVE. THIS IS WHAT LOVE IS. OH GOD OH FUCK 7) AND THEY SOUND SO GOOD, TOO, WHY HAVEN’T I LISTENED TO THIS SONG ENOUGH AHDHJKLDAS
OK I haven’t listened to this song enough to have favorite lines just yet, also I want to at least get to the end of the first act before I go to bed and it’s already midnight rn, so we’re going ahead and moving on (so sorry!)
IF I BE-FUCKIN-LIEVED. OH GOD. THIS ONE. THIS ONE IS SO GOOD. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. THE FLUTE, THE WORDS, THE SINGING LIKE GODDAMN. This one is also kinda within my range so I’m also trying to learn to sing it bc it’s just that good (cons of being a contralto: you get no female songs in musicals, pros of being a contralto: you get all the cool higher tenor songs) The raw emotion in his voice??? I’m crying??? The strength and soul and beauty and just ashjdskl;jdsfkl; it’s so, so beautifully and wonderfully amazing
Favorite lines:
“Science says you’re dead and gone forever! Reason says I’m talking to the air! But something in my heart, some secret, hidden part, illogically insists that you are there! Somewhere!!”
“Perhaps it’s not too late, to change the course of fate?”
“‘Cause after all, I must be pretty great... if you believed in me...”
Again this song is really short and there’s not a lot of lines to choose from and also I love them all and dfhjskdskjl this is just such a good song
I’m still crying
ORPHANED AT 33!!! [insert Peggle 2 gif] CHAOS... T W O!!!! HE’S MR ORPHAN, AKA CHAOS MAN (NOW WITH A MUSICAL NUMBER!) (I’m also trying to learn this one bc let me splurge in trying to teach myself Twisted songs, ok?) He’s being tragic and over-dramatic and it’s a beautiful song! and I also love how in the studio version, he doesn’t mention that they died earlier that year, so it almost comes as a shock when he says “when I was orphaned at... thirty-three” and it just makes the song that much funnier, trust me
Favorite lines:
I know I said this abt most of the other songs up to this point, but can I say all the lines? because all the lines
“[My parents are] dead... that makes me an orphan :’(”
“‘Cause my story’s just too saaad!”
“They call me a jerk off! a burn-out! A punk! But I can’t let that stuff in my head!”
“All things considered, I think I turned out pretty good! I pulled myself up by my bootstraps and started s t e a l i n g a l l I c o u l d!”
”I’ll make it through somehow, despite being so sadly and crushingly all alone...”
“I’ll BREAK THE CHAIN!! YOU’LL SEE!!! I’M GONNA L I V E F O R E V E R!!!!1!111!”
The last “thirty-three” bc Jeff oh my god what is that voice
HAPPY ENDING TIME, HECK YEAH!!!!! THIS SONG,,,, SO, SO GOOD, I’M A FUCKING SUCKER FOR SONGS WITH MORE THAN ONE PART THAT ALL END TOGETHER IN A HARMONY. THAT IS PEAK MUSICIANSHIP AND JUSTHSDHJFKSAD Also someone pointed this out to me, but the way to goes from Aladdin’s weirdly horny lines straight to the princess going “oh Aladdin, you poor, innocent soul :(” is just the funniest thing to me. And how it calls back to thier own solos, I’m???!? OH AND INSTRUMENTALS AGAIN. THE BAND FUCKING KILLED IT WITH THIS MUSICAL, IT’S SO, SO GOOD JUST AHDSJKLAKKFAnd the energy in it?? The excitement for the next act??? I’m pumped!! Are you pumped?? WELL GET READY BC YOU WILL BE
Favorite lines:
Yet a-fucking-gain I love every goshdarn line in this song, it’s just too good
“They’ll throw a parade in my honor, with peacocks and monkeys galore!”
“The people will cheer!” [cool guitar bit]
[Jafar’s relatively calm part ends] [electric guitar starts back up and Aladdin jumps on stage] “I CaN’T wAiT tO bE A RicH DUdE!!!11!1!″
“Stealing is so much easier when you’ve already got tons of gold!”
“I’ve got my eye! On what money can’t buy! ‘cause that princess is OH! Hella tight! I’ll be the one who plunders her cave of wonders! I’ll get my happy ending tonight!”
“My innocent Aladdin!”
Yes i’m fully aware I put pretty much Aladdin’s full part in there, stop judging me, it’s a good part
“It puts a damper on our love if you don’t have a head”
“So with with your permission, I’d like to bring back your bride!”
just. Jafar’s whole fantasy where he’s happy with his wife. I’m crying again, please just let him be happy
THE ENDING PART WHERE THEY ALL START UP AND BRING UP THIER OWN HOPES FOR THAT NIGHT AND THEY SING THE FINAL”TONIGHT!!!” ALL TOGETHER AND THEN THERE’S THAT COOL LITTLE 2 SECOND INSTRUMENTAL BIT AT THE VERY END IT’S JUST,.,, SO GOOD I’M DSJHDASHJKSDJK
Ok yeah that’s the end of the first act of songs! I should have the next part up by tomorrow, so get ready for more capslock and keysmashes and me generally being excited abt music bc MUSIC HECK YEAH DFFHADSJKHDAS
#twisted#twisted musical#starkid twisted#twisted starkid#starkid rewind#music#i love each and every song on this playlist and if you asked me to choose a favorite I'd black out for at least 2 days trying to decide#honestly tho these songs are so good#twisted soundtrack#musicals#musicals soundtrack

so i’ve been playing a lot of Monkey Island recently, because the BEST GAME EVER (Curse of Monkey Island, the 3rd in the series) is FINALLY ON STEAM and i strongly suggest anyone who likes witty puzzle games play it, even if you haven’t played the others because it can stand on its own and it’s all around a really great game with one of my favorite protagonists of all time.
anyway, i replayed Tales of Monkey Island after finishing Curse... in a...day.... any there’s a cut scene after the credits of the last chapter that inspired this mess. THIS IS NOT SPOILER FREE. IT HAS SO MANY SPOILERS. ALL OF THE SPOILERS.
Also this is not a rag on Morgan LeFlay. I love morgan. what a great character!
if you are unfamiliar with this series but still want to read this for some reason, here’s what you need to know: guybrush is stupid and clever and he picks up random things and keeps them in his pants (and coat pockets in the 5th game), lechuck is the series villain and is in love with elaine and has been a ghost and a zombie and a voodoo zombie who kidnaps elaine like all the time, the crossroads is like pirate greek underworld, the voodoo lady does not have a name that we know of
fic can be read here if you don’t like tumblr, and the rest is under the cut
Fic name: Much Ado About Monkey Island Rating: G Fandom: Monkey Island Relationships: Guybrush Threepwood/Elaine Marley, Guybrush Threepwood & Morgan LeFlay Characters: Elaine Marley, Morgan LeFlay, Guybrush Threepwood Warnings: Kind of a love triangle situation, but not really, this is unedited
Elaine Marley Threepwood, Governor of Melee Island, Booty Island, and Plunder Island, part-time pirate, accomplished ambassador, and wife of the legendary (if exasperating) pirate Guybrush Threepwood, took a moment to fully bask in the novelty that was being on the other side of this whole kidnapping business.
Not that it made her any happier about it, but at least she wasn’t the one caged in a weird voodoo trap while some variation of undead suitor proclaimed his love for her. Thank the pirate gods for that. She would probably run herself through if she had to fend off LeChuck again and then her husband might do something stupid like bring her back from the dead, or bind their spirits together, or dig up her grave and cry over her corpse until some bizzaro unlikely miracle happened and she spontaneously came back to life with a list of conditions to her newfound reincarnation.
“Is this how you feel all of the time?” Guybrush asks her, sounding incredulous. “Man, this is annoying and frustrating. I didn’t think it was possible, but my respect for you just raised to a whole new level of awe.”
“Thank you sweetie,” Elaine calls, mostly to shut her dumbass (but endearing!) husband.
“No, seriously!”
“Shut up Guybrush,” Morgan LeFlay says, not taking her eyes off Elaine.
This is probably the most surprising turn of events. Morgan LeFlay is very much dead, according to Guybrush. She is also a “really great person!” according to Guybrush. She is also a competent swordfighter, which Elaine vaguely remembers from issuing her a pox-induced challenge to a fight to the death for Guybrush. And also she helped kill LeChuck once and for all, according to Guybrush. And Morgan LeFlay is known for mostly killing pirates, not kidnapping them and forcing them to marry her. It was distinctly out of character for her (according to Guybrush).
Elaine isn’t certain how it figures in, but she’s 100% sure the Voodoo Lady is involved somehow.
Currently Morgan LeFlay is a ghost pirate hunter, in the corporeal world, with a very much not ghostly ship, holding very much not ghostly objects.
Definitely VooDoo Lady sea scumm happening.
Morgan takes this opportunity monologue, like a true villain. (She must have been taking lessons.) “Look, I know that you’re stupidly gaga over Elaine for some reason-”
“There’s lots of reasons! I have an itemized list!”
He doesn’t, but she’s sure that when they get home he’ll make one and frame it in a public area because he’s that much of an embarrassing romantic. (The thought of it makes her swoon a little bit, but she’ll never admit it in public.)
“-when we had a moment! A really romantic moment! I kind of compared myself to a giant ugly manatee for you so you could understand me better.”
“What? I thought you were just helping me figure out how to seduce a manatee to I could get La Esponja Grande.”
“Well, I mean, that too. It was a metaphor.”
“I think you mean double entendre,” Elaine pipes in.
Morgan growls. “I didn’t ask you!”
“I’m almost positive Elaine made that word up, but i’m also mostly positive that she’s right. She’s right most of the time. All of the time.”
“Shut up about Elaine for five seconds! Geez!”
Elaine unfolds herself from her fighting crouch. “Look, Morgan. I’m sure we can come to some sort of compromise.”
Guybrush squeaks. “I’m not agreeing to be cut in half!”
“Smuggle bunny,” Elaine sings through her teeth, “please zip your trap while the ladies talk, okay?”
“Fine, but I stand by my statement.”
“There is no compromise,” Morgan says. “To get a human form, I need Guybrush. To be happy, I’m pretty sure I’ll need Guybrush. Have you met other pirates around here? Or even other men? They’re disgusting and are either terrified of me or want to tame me. I just want to be me. And human. That’s important too.”
“Of course I’ve met other pirates, why do you think I married Guybrush?”
“Aww,” Guybrush says. “That’s so sweet… I think.”
“And we can work together to get you a human form back. Guybrush talked a lot about you, and you sound like a decent person. I would have let him help you if you asked.”
Morgan stares at her blankly. “He… talked about me?”
“Yes. How you’re a lifelong fan and how you cut off his hand. How he got you to pretend to be his wife. All the things you helped him with in at the Crossroads. I’d be jealous except he seemed completely oblivious to the fact that you had a crush on him.”
Guybrush yells, “Wait, you what?”
“See?”
Morgan looks devastated. To Guybrush she says, “Didn’t I tell you? You are stupidly loyal to Elaine, and I respected that about you, but I also hated it. It’s so unfair!”
“Oh, Morgan.”
Elaine considers for a moment. “We’ll both help you get your human form back. On two conditions.”
“Is one of them not cutting me in half?”
“What are the conditions,” Morgan asks, studiously ignoring Guybrush like a pro.
“One,” Elaine holds up a finger, “whatever the Voodoo Lady is setting you up to do here with marrying Guybrush, it has to stop. We’re married and neither of us wants that to change. I’m not going to apologize for that.”
Morgan does not look happy, but she doesn’t protest outright so Elaine decides to take that as a good sign. And also pretty much confirmation the VooDoo Lady is involved. Figures.
“Two, when doing whatever weird side quests you will inevitably get yourself into, you take me along.”
“What?!” Morgan yells.
“Oh, this can’t be good,” Guybrush says.
“I’m saying this because Guybrush runs off all the time and he works best by himself most of those times. But with all his stories about you, you seem like an accomplished woman and Davey Jones knows that we need more of those around here. I’d like us to be allies.”
Guybrush does a little dance. “Yeah! You’d both make a super intelligent and an utterly terrifyingly competent team! Okay, actually, hm. That is a little too terrifying. Especially for me.”
Morgan, on the other hand, looks a little dumbfounded. “Allies?”
“Yes. As a bonus you can hang around my stupidly clever husband to your heart’s content, but just know that he’s just as crude and idiotic as any other given pirate, just with far more charm attached.”
Guybrush is muttering to himself (or some unknown audience, he does that sometimes) while Morgan frowns and thinks about the deal.
“... Okay,” she finally says. “Okay, I’ll team up with you and try to become your ally. I heard you’re a governess right?”
“Governor, technically. Guybrush is the governess.”
“I am?”
“Governor, then. Can you teach me how to lead people without terrifying them beyond belief?”
“She might still be figuring that one out,” Guybrush says.
“Oh absolutely,” Elaine smiles, and purposely makes it ambiguous who she was answering. She sheathes her sword. “Now that that’s out of the way, release Guybrush and we can talk business.”
“Oh, um, about that.”
Elaine blinks at Morgan, in suspicion. “What.”
“He wasn’t meant to be captured there. That cage wasn’t finished yet and I didn’t add a way to open it yet. So he’s… kind of trapped in there.”
“Oh no,” Guybrush yells. “I can’t pillage and plunder while trapped in a box! I can’t scavenge the seven seas while caged like a wild animal! I can’t even use the bathroom without the rest of the ship bearing witness! This is the worst.”
“Well,” Elaine smiles. “Let’s take a look at that voodoo spell and see if we can’t Guybrush some solution together.”
“Ha!” Morgan says, also smiling, and digs out the spell from her boot. (How…?) “I guess this is our first quest together, Governor Threepwood.”
“I suppose it is, Pirate Huntress LeFlay.” They share a smile, before Elaine turns to her husband. “Honeylumps, I’m going to need you to empty your pockets and your pants.”
“In public?”
Morgan shrieks, “You need him to what?!”

Can I request RFA reacting to MC proposing to them? c: Was thinking about that earlier today !! lol
I’ve read this HC before and I loooooovee ittttt sooo much I love this headcanon aaaaa I hope you guys like it as much as I do!! -Green
Yoosung:
-honestly, it wasn’t planned at all. Kinda. You did have a whole plan for a date, very romantic and a night to remember for sure.
-but when you woke up and saw Yoosung right there, sleeping so peacefully, you just had to do it. God, you just had to marry this man. Right now .
-so you get out of bed as quietly as you can, and you whip him up a sweet cup of coffee that he taught you from his barista club, and some strawberry pancakes with whip cream
-this boy loves sweet things so you write on the side of the plate with caramel ‘will you marry me, baby?’
-you did some basic latte art on his coffee, just a simple heart but you thought it was cute
-you put it all on a small tray and brought it over to the bedroom, where Yoosung was still sleeping
-you set the tray down on the nightstand, and sit right next to him, petting his hair and kissing his shoulders and cheeks to wake him up
-his lil sleepy eyes are so cute that you wanna ask him right then and there but you SomeHow resist
- “I brought you some breakfast in bed, honey” you give him the tray and he’s already surprised because !!! he loves your cooking, but what’s the occasion???
-first yoosung smiles at your cup art and drinks some of that, complimenting how cute you are and how good you are at making coffee!!! maybe even better than him?? ooo
-when he looks at the plate to see what you made, he almost misses the little words by the side. but he does see it
-at first he thinks it’s a joke. were you reinacting one of your books or something??
-but when he looks back at you to see you on one knee by the bed with a ring in your hand he actually screams
-without even thinking he totally throws the breakfast off the bed the coffee is safe on the nightstand thank god and jumps into your arms
-making the two of you fall on the hard floor but he doesn’t care because “yeah!!!! yeah!! yeah, i wanna marry you!!” he doesn’t even say YES he just keeps saying YEAH. because. YEAH!!! we’re getting MARRIED!
Saeyoung:
-saeyoung deserves the best of the best okay
-so you make a GAME out of it
-you make him search for the ring and it’s so complex that you honestly forgot where you put the ring
-you hid it the other night and woke up at the butt-crack of dawn, waking up your soon to be fiance along with you
-he’s cranky about it, but once he hears that you two are going on a scavenger hunt he’s BLASTING OUT THE ROOM
-saeyoung please put on clothes we’re going outside
-it’s really fuckin cold in the morning so you guys have to dress up warm, which to Saeyoung means 707 layers of jackets heheh
-the puzzle was made to be really challenging because you know how smart Saeyoung is, even if he pretends he isn’t
-it’s kind of like his Valentines Date (DLC) except a lot less romantic ,, and more adventurous
-one moment your in the bathroom until he breaks it apart to find a key, and the next moment you’re in the garage unlocking one of his babes. inside there you find a tub of ice cream, so you go to Saerans room! You find a bouquet of flowers, so now your suddenly at the supermarket! Just like that, and it goes on FOREVER
-the last stop (where the wedding ring is) is at the top of the hill in a small dog park where the two of you had your first date. by the time you get there it’s the middle of the afternoon
-Saeyoung isn’t even TIRED. he’s having so much fun!!!
-he has to climb one of the trees to find the ring, and you’re down on the ground and you kinda just go “o. that’s where i put it” because, again, you fucking FORGOT
-he hangs from one of the branches and hands the ring to you, and you see the confusion on his face, but also the playfulness
- “what could it mean??? i don’t remember a ring in our relationship. hmm… you truly are a master, because frankly, I’m stump-ed.” bu-dum cccchhhh
-you join on in, observing the ring curiously even if you knew what it looked like.
-it was a beautiful ring. you didn’t want it too flashy, that didn’t really match his personality. it had a diamond in the middle, with two moonstones shaped in crescents to hug the diamond on each side. one reason because it was his birth stone, the other because. it was a moon stone. spaaaace
- “hmm, the only time I remember there being a ring in our relationship is when I proposed to you??”
-Saeyoung laughs because it’s like lololol funny joke MC but then all the sudden your getting on one knee and he’s kinda just like. w h a t
- “don’t tell me you’re going to say no and ruin the adventure already? we still have to go to the moon, you know.” You try to be cocky but your voice is trembling. you’re literally proposing to Saeyoung who is hanging upside down from a tree like a damn monkey
-he falls off the tree
- “OH MY GOSH, ARE YOU OKAY??” you try to help him but he’s scrambling away from you. Your heart breaks a lil bc of that,,
-and then you see that your boyfriend is crying and he’s trying really really hard for you not to see and you don’t know if that’s a good sign or not
- “are you crying because you love me or because you’re hurt because I’m really worried about both” a legitimate question you have to ask
-AAGAHHH it’s cause he loves you!!!! hell yeah he wants to marry you!!!
-that’s what he wants to say but he’s crying so much it comes out as a bunch of nonsense. “h yeh.. wa -nanabb… maaaarrRRYYyy-mmm y-yo-uugh-ouuu ehhhehHH!!!”
-after you get him calmed down he kinda just bursts into tears at random times the rest of the day because he’s so overwhelmed with LOVE FOR YOU
Jumin:
-you don’t even beat around the bush with this fuckin dork. You’ve TRIED. it DOESN’T WORK Y’ALL
-if you don’t tell him outright about something, he’ll never know what you mean
-you’re out at a very very fancy dinner. You don’t want to propose there because of paparazzi. you figure that the dinner will help the romantic mood though
-after the dinner, you two go out to his private garden, and you spend the rest of your date there, walking and talking
-at one point you stop the two of you at a small little bench and request to sit down
-you continue talking while you make a flower crown for the both of you because he’s a very pretty boy and you can’t resist.
-also you need something to do with your hands because you’re so nervous and jittery
-by the time you’re finished with them, you place one crown on your head and then offer him his
- “would you like to be my prince, Jumin?”
-he smiles at you, because gosh. u are… so cute. Of course he wants to be your fuckin prince !!!
- “forever. be my prince forever, okay?”
- “okay, MC. I promise.”
-you place the crown on his head, and without really thinking about it you place the ring on the top of his head too
-Jumin is like “?????”
-very confused
-when he picks it up, and sees it is an engagement ring, he almost laughs because when Jumin looks at you again you are struggling to get on one knee in the grass
- “are you asking me to marry you, MC?”
-UGH YES JUMIN YES I AM aSGHHGH HELp me
-Jumin full out just giggles. He’s got a little blush on his cheeks and everything. he looks damn beautiful. It’s like the guy is shining under the moonlight
- “please god marry me Jumin Han” kinda just slips out of your mouth before you can think about it
-he brings you up to him and gives you a very deep kiss before putting on the ring.
- “MC, if you need me to, I’ll be your king.”
Jaehee:
-you had brought the whole RFA together at your apartment for a casual get together and game night
-and you planned to propose with everyone there
-you just wanted it to be fun and memorable for the both of you, and to have your RFA family with you sounded amazing
-you were. v v nervous but you couldn’t tell anyone because literally everyone in the RFA would snitch without even thinking about it they’re terrible
-the party was finally at that calm, but fun air you wanted it to be. Yoosung and Saeyoung playing Just Dance on the TV, Jaehee and Zen chatting about their daily lives and his musicals while you were preparing food with Jumin.
-I think out of everyone in the RFA, Jumin is the happiest for you two, whether he say it or not
-and really…. he was the only one who wouldn’t snitch….
-so while you were pouring drinks for everyone, you told Jumin you planned to propose to Jaehee tonight but you weren’t sure when the best moment would be
-surprisingly he gave you a?? side hug???
-he was so proud of you guys aaaaa
-Jumin wasn’t the most romantic person, but he did give you good advice. Let it come naturally. Don’t think of her saying no, just think of her saying yes, because she will. Jaehee will say yes
-and that was such a relief to hear that you gave Jumin a big ol hug and a smooch on the cheek before bringing out the food
-an hour goes by and you all are playing monopoly
-Saeyoung and Jumin are getting all the expensive houses and constantly competing for each others cards. No one knows how Saeyoung got so much money.
-Yoosung is making a little home with all the really cheap blocks and Zen is pulling his hair as he has to pay Jumin yet again
-then there’s you and Jaehee who watch the fire burn and maintain a normal board of moderately expensive houses.
-and you just feel so good at the moment. You and Jaehee cuddled in a blanket with your friends all around you
-so you turn around, kiss her on the forehead, bring out the ring and ask her to marry you
-ALL EYES ON YOU
-the fighting IMMEDIATELY STOPS and everything is so quiet
-…
-..
- “DAMMIT JAEHEE IF YOU DON’T SAY YES, I WILL” Saeyoung SCREECHES at the top of his lungs and he looks like he’s gunna c r y
-Jaehee does finally find her words and says yes, then the two of you kiss and everyone is standing up and cheering for the two of you
-they force you to do a slow dance together and really you wouldn’t have it any other way
Zen:
-you don’t want to do it in public, because of paparazzi, but… Zen does love attention..
-so you decide to propose to him after one of his shoes back stage
-you watch the whole performance with a nervous heart and shaking hands
-the whole time you just stare at Zen and you watch how beautifully he sings and preforms. He’s amazing at what he does. You just… feel so proud of him
-you really, really hope he’ll say yes. You need him to. You don’t think you could ever get over it if Zen said no.
-When the show is over, there’s usually a meet-and-greet with all the actors so you have to act quickly before he leaves for that and is too tired for a proposal
-you greet him with a big hug and a kiss, which he appreciates a Whole Lot
- “hey, Zen, I was.. wondering something today.”
- “yeah? what’s that?”
- “would you ever… in the future.. would you ever like to get married?”
-you catch him off guard and now he’s blushing like a FOOL
-of course!! especially if it’s to you, and he winks. He’s just casually flirting but you’re just like THE TIME IS NOW
-you slam down on your knee so hard that you actually start crying and Zen is just ????!!!!!! what h a p p e n e d
-you explain in tears while bringing out the ring that you wanted to propose but you got too excited..
-YOU’RE SO CUTE, O H MYG OD,,,
-Zen just laughs, picks you up and gives you a really big SMOOCH on the lips. pretend i didn’t say smooch because it was actually really romantic
-he dips you, what a nerd
-god, he loves you. he’s looking at you with such a sparkle in his eyes as he says ‘yes’ and putting on that ring, you forget all about your injury and go in for another kiss as he spins you around
-after he smugly shows all his fans the ring in pride

Stillwater Chapter 17
Stillwater [Archive of Our Own, FanFiction.Net, Mibba]
Characters: Original Female Character, Monkey D. Luffy, Rorona Zoro, Vinsmoke Sanji, Nami, Usopp, Tony Tony Chopper, Nefeltari Vivi
“We build as only children know to build
We made a way where there’s a will
No slowing down or standing still
Innocent and reckless
"How did we get so old and never notice
How did we gain the world and lose the moment
Rise and fall, the tide surrounds us
And drowns us all”
-Hands Like Houses
***
Random rain storm in the middle of the desert?
Check.
Luffy?
Check.
Coincidence?
Not even close.
As soon as we had docked the Merry, Luffy had taken off in search of food tore through the desert sands, leaving a trail of dust behind him. We hadn’t even been able to get the first syllable of “Stay out of trouble,” out, before he was gone over the horizon, not that he would’ve listened to us anyways.
I had offered to go after him. Out of everyone, I was the most tolerant of Luffy’s antics. I found them endearing more than annoying. Not that the rubber boy didn’t have it in him to work my nerves, but 900 years was more than enough time to develop at least a little bit of patience. That and I had a very obvious soft spot for him.
In addition to minimizing the damage that he was sure to cause, it also got me away from the rest of the crew. A break from Usopp and Zoro sounded great. Zoro was still guarded, and Usopp was still afraid, jumping at nearly everything I did.
Yeah, chasing Luffy through the desert sounded like a lovely break from the tense awkward atmosphere caused by my confession.
Granted, I hadn’t thought that I was actually going to have to chase Luffy through the desert. Somehow, he had managed to run completely past the port town of Nanohana, bypassing all of the eateries that he had been desperately trying to get to. Instead, he ended up at the one solitary shack that dotted the land skip in the sands beyond Nanohana’s boundaries.
I reached out, feeling the rain as it fell. There was nothing off about it as far as I could tell. It was just the timing and location that was strange. Water was way to valuable here to let it go to waste, so rather than keep pondering its origin, I waved my fingers, collecting as much water as I could into a large orb that floated above the ground.
I wasn’t trying to do anything too complex with it, meaning that I could collecting large amounts of water, but aside from large brunt force attacks, I couldn’t do much with it. More precise and accurate uses required much smaller amounts. Maybe, if I had honed my skills more that would change.
This went unnoticed by Luffy and the old man that was currently yelling at him, sword in hand. The two were locked into some kind of altercation that I had missed the beginning of. They were mid conversation by the time I got close enough to hear.
“Illegal? So, you’re a criminal,” Luffy said, narrowing his eyes at the man.
I snorted. I still had no idea what was going on, but a kid with a thirty-million on his head calling anyone a criminal was hilarious.
The sound cause Luffy to notice me. “Mimi!” he cheered, looking away from the guy, who took the opening to slash at Luffy.
I shook my head. The old guy was completely outclassed. Even without his devil fruit, Luffy was still young and spry. The old guy was well past his prime. Hungry and barely paying attention (even for him) Luffy was able to beat the guy in short order, leaving him bruised and bloodied. The guy had called for a truce, begging for mercy.
Having gotten that out of their system, the two sat down in the dirt. I took advantage of the barrels the man had around, filling them with water.
“Well you certainly are a strong one, aren’t you?” the old guy said, breaking the ice.
“Sure am. No one can beat me,” Luffy said.
“Yeah. I’m not surprised. Your fighting style is very unique. Sorry about that,” the guy sounded embarrassed. I would be too, if I was beaten up by some kid with only one punch.
“Oh no no no. I’m the one, who burnt up your powder stuff. I’m sorry.” Luffy’s apology was genuine. The old man had referred the powder that Luffy was talking about to as his treasure. There was something about those words the registered with Luffy.
I assumed that it was a pirate thing.
“Why don’t we go ahead and say we’re even?” the guy offered. “And you-” He looked at me. “-I don’t think I’ve ever seen a devil fruit power quite like yours.”
“Yeah. I’d appreciate if you kept it to yourself. I don’t exactly like the unwanted attention it causes, but water’s too valuable here to let it go to waste.”
“You’re certainly right about that. You’ve done me a huge favor collecting it. Your secret’s safe with me. And if you could, please don’t tell anyone about the powder. That would be great.”
“Wait what was that powder stuff?” Luffy asked.
“What? You don’t know?”
“It sure was gross,” Luffy said.
“It isn’t food. It’s a very special powder known as dance powder. There’s another name for it. It’s also known as rain summoning powder. That’ what caused that sudden downpour we just had. Uh… Would you like me to explain more?”
“It’ll just go over his head,” I said.
“Yeah. I wouldn’t understand.”
“I guess you wouldn’t would you,” the old guy laughed.
Luffy laughed as well, but it came to an abrupt stop, when he brought his fist down on the guy’s head. “Hey, don’t be so rude, old guy.”
“Like I was saying, this powder is very special. It can be used to artificially produce rain.”
I listened intently as the man explained how rain powder works. I followed along just fine, but it was clearly lost on Luffy.
“Does all that make sense?”
“So, it’s mystery powder,” Luffy concluded.
The old guy started clapping sarcastically. “Yes, well done that’s it exactly.”
“Are you being rude to me again old man?”
“Yes,” I answered.
Luffy hit him again. “Why would you want to use the powder to make rain in the first place?”
“You don’t even know the first thing about this country, do you?”
“Luffy,” I said gently. “Alabasta is a desert kingdom. There’s no rain here. Water is scarce.”
“Well you see, here in Alabasta, we’re constantly battling drought.”
“What do you mean?”
“Drought is when there’s no water and the land dries out.”
“Ugh! I know that much!” Luffy knocked the man on the head again.
“Anyway, our country never gets much rain, but it’s become much more scarce in recent years.”
“That sounds bad.”
“Most of the oases have dried up.”
“So just use the mystery powder then.”
“That’s what you would think, but as I told you, the world government has now made dance powder illegal. Use of the powder is a crime punishable by execution. The powder is also supposedly what started the country’s rebellion.”
“Really?” I questioned.
“I don’t know much about that though.”
“Oh. Hey. I think I get it now. Was it your dream to help save your country by using the powder?”
“What?”
“Earlier you said the powder was really important.”
“Uh… Yeah, but that wasn’t exactly what I had in mind for it,” the old guy admitted sheepishly.
“What was?” I asked.
“Well. I thought by selling water in these hard times, I could make a lot of money.”
“Yeah, you’re right. You must be really smart. I don’t’ really care about that,” Luffy said.
‘No, but Vivi would,’ I thought.
“I just need to find some place to eat,” Luffy said, focusing on his initial goal again.
“Bu- bu- bu- bu- but please don’t tell anyone about this. Let’s keep this between us, okay?” the man pleaded.
“Yeah, whatever. Makes no difference.”
Luffy’s words apparently didn’t register with the old guy, because he immediately started begging. “Please! Just don’t tell! I’ll give you anything you want! Anything!”
“Anything?” Luffy asked, excitedly.
“Anything. Anything at all.”
“You got any food?”
I smiled fondly. Oh Luffy, sweet simple Luffy.
Once he had a lunch in hand, he was ready to go. “Well it’s been fun. Thanks, a whole lot for the food, weird old guy.”
“Sure. I only hope you enjoy it.”
“And that we keep your dirty little secret,” I chirped, causing him to cast me a nervous glance.
“Trust me, I will,” Luffy responded, ignoring me. “See you around, rude old guy.”
I moved the barrels, so that they rolled behind me.
“What are you doing?” he cried out.
“You didn’t think that I collected this all for you, did you?” I asked. “Consider it the thing I want for keeping my mouth shut.”
“You can’t do that!” he yelled.
“I can, and I will.”
“You take that, and I will tell everyone about your devil fruit,” he threatened.
“And I’ll tell everyone about how I collected it from a freak downpour, caused by your dance powder.”
He glared at me. I stared back at him, not bothered in the slightest. We both knew that I was at the advantage here. Having a weird devil fruit wasn’t a crime. Being on a pirate crew was, but I had yet to be recognized for that.
Even then, I could always skip town, live life on the run. He, however, was stuck.
“Fine,” he grumbled. “But don’t tell anyone!” he called as we walked off.
I smirked, pleased with my victory.
“No problem,” Luffy said. “It wasn’t like I could turn you in if I wanted to. I’m a pirate after all.”
The look on the old bastard’s face was priceless.
“Next time you decide to run off, could you at least try to stay within the city?” I asked, Luffy as we walked towards town.
“I can’t believe I ran past all the food.”
“Honestly, I can’t either. I thought your stomach would’ve just guided you into the closest restaurant.”
Luffy opened the lunch from the old guy and began chowing down. It was a decent lunch for a normal person, which it meant it barely qualified as a snack for Luffy. It had taken him no time at all to finish it, and he was still left hungry afterwards.
He whined and whined as we walked.
Meanwhile, I was having my own issues. At home, I was constantly surrounded by water, and while my travels had taken me to places far inland, none of them had ever taken me to a desert. Being so disconnected from the seas was an uncomfortable feeling.
My tie to water was more than simply an ability to control it. For me water almost always felt like home. I was born of the seas, and raised in the rivers, lakes and streams of Ogygia. For me water was home. Having not submerged myself into its depths, since I washed up in the East Blue had already felt strange but being on the seas had been enough of a comfort to combat the urge to toss myself overboard.
None of my travels had taken me to a place so devoid of any type of water. The world around me, felt empty without it, and we weren’t even that far from the sea. I was having difficulty imaging what it would feel like, the further inland we got.
“Where’s the city? Where’s a restaurant? Can’t a guy get any food in this stupid desert place?” Luffy whined.
“You could’ve gotten food earlier, had you not completely blown past the town,” I pointed out.
“Mimi, are you being rude now too?”
“Only a little,” I chuckled. “Look, the town is right there. We don’t have much further to go. Once we- “
Luffy’s eyes were glazed over.
‘That’s not a good sign.’ “Luffy?”
“Food!”
“No,” I tried to grab him, realizing that he was now seeing things. “Luffy, that’s a mirage. You’re seeing things there’s no-“
“I’M COMING FOOD!” and he was tearing off again, rubbering hand squeezing out of my grasp.
I shook my head. Last time he had a head start, and I walked into a rain storm in the middle of a desert. Who knew what he would do in the city. Ideally, we would’ve kept a low profile, while we ate and gathered supplies, but there was no chance of that happening now.
I quickened my pace to catch up to Luffy. I wasn’t running, regardless of how fast I moved, he was going to cause trouble, before I got there, so there was no point in sprinting after him. Plus, I couldn’t just tote the barrels around the city like I had been. It was too conspicuous. I didn’t have enough arms to just carry them either. I had to find somewhere to stash them, before I could go chasing after him.
After hiding my barrels behind an empty building, under a tarp, I went after Luffy. I was sure that if I found the food, I’d find him. My theory was proven correct, when I entered the second restaurant that I had encountered and saw him sitting at the counter, shoveling food into his mouth.
My other theory about him failing to keep a low profile was also proven correct by the massive hole in the wall and the marine captain from Logue Town walking out of it, after shoving what looked to be one of Whitebeard’s men into the ground.
Of course.
“I’ve been looking for you Straw Hat. I thought you’d be here. Seems I was correct,” the captain said.
Luffy said nothing. He gave no indication that he had even heard the marine. Instead he continued to scarf down food.
“Would you quit eating?!” the captain yelled.
‘I should’ve kept one of those barrels.’ I had no water on my person at the moment, the canteen clipped to my hip empty.
It was okay though, I could make do. My plan wasn’t complicated, didn’t require gallons of water. There was dish water in the sink, and while it was gross, it would work. I pulled the water from the sink, hitting Luffy square in the chest with it, with enough force to send him flying back towards me, I grabbed him by the arm and took off, running like hell through the streets.
We ran like hell through the streets, ducking and dodging, but Smoker was on our asses, a cloud of smoke that we couldn’t lose.
“TASHIGI!” Smoker yelled, at a girl on the street. Seeing the weapon in her hand and the way she addressed him led me to the conclusion that she was a marine as well.
“Get them!” he ordered.
She and her men moved quickly. They blocked the street, while she launched herself towards us.
I tossed Luffy upwards, and he got the hint, catching onto one of the nearby buildings and rocketing himself to the roof. I dodged the girl’s attack and turned right, running down a different alley.
I had to get back to Luffy. He was useless against a logia user.
“TASHIGI!” I heard Smoker yell. “GET THE MARINES AT ONCE! Search every inch of this place and find the rest of his crew.”
Of course. I didn’t want to engage her. A fight would waste valuable time, but now I had no other choice. Sure, Luffy and I had blown our covers, but the others hadn’t. So as long as the people didn’t catch wind of their true nature and the marines weren’t fully mobilized they would be fine.
“Right! Come on!” she commanded the few marines with her.
I came back around the building and ambushed the trio of marines, grabbing a bottle and hurling it at one of them, hitting him right in the head and knocking the unconscious. Tashigi and the other turned their attention towards me.
“Stop right there!” Tashigi yelled. I charged at her, knowing the she would dodge, using the opening to attack the other marine, who was by no means ready for me. He aimed his riffle at me, but I ducked under the barrel, grabbing it and aiming it towards the ground. I knocked his legs out from underneath him, gaining control of his weapon as I did so. While he was flat on his back, I used the butt end of the riffle to knock him unconscious.
That left one.
“Who are you?” Tashigi asked, her sword drawn.
“I don’t have time for you,” I said bluntly. “I’ve got to go keep your hard ass captain from getting his hands on my simple captain, so do me a favor and just stop, while you’re still conscious.”
“Not happening, pirate.” She spat the last word out, before charging.
It was obvious that she had studied the blade. The way that she held herself and the techniques that she used showed that she had a strong understanding the fundamentals. Her execution wasn’t perfect, but it was still proper. Had she been up against a rookie or some simple thug, she would’ve been able to land a hit on them easily.
I was neither of those things. Swords weren’t my weapon of choice, but that didn’t mean I didn’t know how to wield one. I had studied the same techniques as her, and I had much much more time to do so. It took something far more creative to get the jump on me.
I dodged easily, running up and kicking off of the wall landing behind her. While I was in motion so was the dishwater I had used earlier. With a swift jerk of my arm, I whipped it across her knuckles, causing her to drop her sword. Another flick of my wrist and the water ran across her palms, the pressure enough to slice through the flesh there.
She cried out, dropping to one knee.
“Your theory is excellent and your execution close. You’ve studied well, Tashigi, but you’re not the only one.”
“Who the hell are you?” she growled out, reaching for her sword.
“Doesn’t matter,” I said, knocking the weapon away from her. I went to knee her in the face, but she blocked, grabbing my leg and pulling me down.
She was feistier than I had thought. I was sure that she would’ve lost her fight once her palms had been slashed, but still she continued.
She may have been feisty, but I was stronger, rolling us over, so that I had her pinned down. I brought my fist into her face, leaving her unconscious with a bloody nose.
“I kind of like you,” I said, as I pulled myself up. A large cloud of smoke and a burst of flames drew my attention.
Before I could run towards it, a streak of red and blue with a straw hat ran in the opposite direction.
When I caught up to Luffy for what felt like the fiftieth time that day, he was sitting on a barrel in an alley, not far from, where I had stashed my barrels of water earlier.
“Luffy,” I breathed out a sigh of relief.
“Hey, Mimi! Have you seen the others? I think they got lost, while the marines were chasing us.”
I groaned. “Of course, you guys attracted their attention on your own, after I took out the sword girl to try to buy everyone some time.”
“I share your sentiment,” a guy said from the roof above us. “It seems giving you a chance to escape was pointless.”
I looked up to see the Whitebeard pirate standing on top of the home beside us.
“Hey!” Luffy greeted enthusiastically. “Hiya, Ace.”
The guy, Ace, jumped down.
“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” Luffy asked.
“You could say that,” Ace responded.
The pair laughed together, before locking hands for an arm-wrestling match on top of the barrel. Seeing the two interact caused me to relax a bit. Ace and Luffy were clearly on good terms, which meant I had one less threat to deal with.
“How many years has it been?” Luffy asked.
“I don’t know, but you haven’t changed much during all that time, you’re a little taller, but you pretty much look the same.”
“So, do you. Aside from those powers you got from eating that devil fruit, you haven’t changed a bit. Remember, when you used to run into the fields, eat a hundred watermelons, spit the seeds out like a Gatling gun and run away?”
“No, that wasn’t me, that was you,” Ace argued.
“The farmers would chase you and you’d scream like a girl.”
“That was you too. I watched and laughed.”
The two of them were caught up in their own little world, reminiscing, while they arm wrestled.
I leaned against the building watching, while also feeling my barrels from earlier, and moving the water within them, so that they rolled towards me.
The force from their arm-wrestling match was enough to break the barrel. I caught the water before it could seep into the ground or evaporate.
“I guess we’re still the same.”
“Sure are.”
“Just like old times.”
“Wasn’t your crew looking for you a few minutes ago?” Ace asked.
“I’m sure,” I said, attracting his attention.
He straightened up, before bowing. “My apologies, miss. I haven’t introduced myself. I’m Portgas D. Ace, Luffy’s older brother.”
I realized at that moment, who exactly Ace was. Fire Fist, the second division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates.”
I smiled at him. He was polite if nothing else. “Big brother, huh? I’m a big sister myself. I’m Zale Mira Kai, but I prefer Mira.”
“Mira, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I take it you’re one of Luffy’s crew members.”
“The stewardess,” I answered. “And the pleasure is mine.”
“A stewardess, huh?” he asked, directing the question towards Luffy.
“For all intents and purposes, and then some,” I said.
“Yeah, isn’t that cool, Ace? Mira cleans. She can cook. She fixes our clothes. And she’s really strong.”
He nodded towards the water, floating above the ground. “That’s some power you got there. Didn’t think there were devil fruits that could control water.”
“There’s not. Mimi’s the daughter of the Sea Devil,” Luffy blurted.
In his defense, I had only told him to keep it a secret from the crew until I had told the others, and I had by this point told the others. We were going to have to have a discussion about this. I didn’t need everyone I met thinking I was evil or crazy depending on whether or not they believed Luffy.
“The sea devil?” Ace quirked a brow, sounding amused more than anything. “That’s one hell of a blood line.”
“Oh, you have no idea,” I grumbled.
Ace seemed to sense that I didn’t want to keep talking about it and changed the subject. “Wasn’t your crew looking for you?”
“Yeah,” Luffy answered, not at all bothered by the fact that the others were probably worried. “What are you doing in Alabasta anyways?”
“I take it you never received the message I left for you back on Drum Island?”
“Message?”
“Well, I guess that’s a no, but don’t worry. It’s not a big deal. It was just to let you know that I’d be in Alabasta for a few days. I’m in these waters on some business.”
I raised my brows. “What business does the Old Man have this early in the Grand Line?” I asked.
“You know Pops?” Ace asked.
“I know your Pops. I met him a long long time ago.”
“Who’s Pops?” Luffy asked.
“I’m with the Whitebeard Pirates,” Ace said proudly.
“Pops is their captain, Whitebeard,” I explained.
“The Whitebeard Pirates?”
“See this tattoo? That’s our mark, and it’s my pride. So Luffy, why don’t you and your friends come join us? Come on. It’ll be fun.”
I snorted. As if Luffy was going to sail under anyone.
“No thanks.”
Ace laughed. “I had a feeling, you’d say that. You see that’s too bad, because Whitebeard’s the greatest pirate I’ve ever met. That’s why I’m going to help him become king of the pirates, and not you Luffy. Sorry.”
“Heh. That’s fine. I guess we’ll just have to fight then, because I’m going to be king of the pirates.”
I shook my head. Boys.
Luffy tipped back the canteen, finishing it off.
“Stop it! Don’t drink it all, you mooch!”
With a few flicks of my fingers, I refilled Ace’s canteen.
“Thank you,” he said, tipping his hat to me.
“You’re welcome.”
He took a swig. “We need to get you two back to your crew, before the marines get to them. You have any idea, where they could’ve gone?”
“Probably back to the ship,” Luffy said.
“Well that’s a start, where’s it docked at?”
“Well actually, I’m not sure. That’s funny.”
“Jeez,” Ace groaned.
“Mimi?” Luffy deferred to me.
I reached out looking for that stupid demon sword, finding it much easier, after having practiced with it. “This way,” I said, leading the other two.
I walked ahead, allowing the other two to talk. Seeing as they hadn’t seen each other in a while, it was a nice chance for them to catch up, and it gave me a bit of a breather.
“You know, Luffy, Pirate ship captains usually remember, where they leave their ships,” Ace said.
“Yeah, but I was hungry, and I forgot.”
“You haven’t changed at all. So, tell me about your crew. What are they like? Who are they?”
“Well first there’s a tough guy, who carries around three swords.”
‘And sleeps more than any other person I know.’
“Wants to be the greatest swordsman in the world.
“Then there’s a navigator, who likes maps and tangerines and money.”
‘Especially money.’
“There’s also a cook, who makes really yummy food.”
‘And is totally hopeless.’
“There’s a liar too,”
‘Scaredy-cat.’
“And a doctor, who just so happens to be a reindeer.”
‘So cute.’
“Really? You don’t say? Sounds like you have a motley crew there.”
“We also have a princess and her giant duck.”
“Not something that we should be talking about here,” I reminded Luffy.
“And then of course there’s Mimi! She takes care of us all. Everyone of my crew is so interesting.”
“Sure sounds like it, but I’d wager, you’re the most interesting one of all.”
I grinned. That was for sure.
“Still, just a handful of people for a pirate crew, that’s just like you Luffy.”
“I’m still looking for a musician though.”
I stopped, seeing the Baroque Works idiots coming out of their hiding spots to intercept us. I figured that we would run into them, but I was also hoping that we wouldn’t. Wishful thinking. They were already out for us. Plus, Ace was one of Whitebeard’s, which meant he likely had one hell of a bounty on his head.
“Stop right there, Fire Fist!”
“You’ve got nowhere to run. Your head is mine. It’s my one-way ticket to a promotion! Prepare to die!”
“It’s our lucky day boys. This’ll be easier than shooting fish in a barrel.”
“Hey, look at the other guy. Is it just me or does he kind of look like Straw Hat Luffy.”
“Great,” I deadpanned.
“Hey, now that you mention it, it is him. He’s worth thirty million berries.”
“Well well it looks like our lucky day just got even luckier. It looks like or big promotion is just a hop skip and two severed heads away.”
Luffy and Ace were unfazed by the goons, continuing forward like nothing was happening. “Anyways, let’s look for your ship. We’ll start at the shore.”
“Okay. Wait, Hey Mimi, can’t you just sense Zoro or whatever?”
“I can, hence why we’re going a different direction than where we came from,” I said.
“See Ace, Mimi’s always watching out for us.”
“Well then lead the way, Mira.”
“Hey!”
“Stop you!”
“Hold it right there!”
“You can’t walk away from us! Get them!”
The goons were moved to action, attacking with greed fueled vigor.
“This is too easy to be fun,” I said, taking down man after man. I bowled over some of the goons with the barrels, something I had never really done before. I had never really experimented with the concepted of fighting with an object filled with water as opposed to just the water itself. The barrels made things a bit more interesting. It allowed me to use more blunt force attacks. I could just hit someone with a jet of water, so that it felt like I punched them or hit them with a board. However, actually hitting someone with a board with the force of my water behind it was much more satisfying, plus it required less concentration.
I lacked the fluidity though, and the speed. I didn’t like the bulkiness of the barrels, but maybe if I had something smaller, it was an option worth exploring.
It didn’t take long for Ace, Luffy and I to clear the road. Ace and Luffy had taken care of the lead idiot. Ace had heated up his sword, the heat traveling through the blade to the hilt, where it burned the man’s palms. Luffy followed that up with a gum gum bazooka, rocketing him off into the distance.
“Alright, let’s go,” I said, heading towards the water.
Once the ocean was in sight, so was the Merry. “Over there,” I pointed it out.
“We’re not afraid of you!”
I glanced back to find more Baroque Works agents surrounding us. “Seriously?”
“You two go ahead. I’ll catch up,” Ace offered.
“Sure thing,” Luffy said, jumping down and waving at the crew.
I followed him, standing by as we waved at everyone. “Alright, Mimi. Let’s go,” he said, coiling an arm around me, extending the other towards the Merry.
“Luffy-“ I started to protest, but before I could get any further were flying over the ocean as Luffy’s arm snapped back to its original size.
We crashed into the deck, taking out Shopper and Sanji in the process.
“Ouch,” I groaned, rolling off of Sanji, who I had landed on and onto the deck.
“Oh Mira, my sweet! Are you okay?” Sanji asked, springing up to sitting position, so that he could fret over me.
“I’m fine,” I said, sitting up. I rolled my shoulders and neck.
“Oh, my dear-”
“Clearly, you’re fine.”
“My barrels,” I whined, looking over at where they were still sitting on land, too far away for me to reach them. “Damn it.”
“Oh! Luffy came back!” Usopp said, appearing from inside.
“Yeah. We’re here.”
“Yeah, the hard way,” Zoro said, face palming.
Luffy popped up. “Sorry about that.”
“Yeah, you’re sorry alright! The sorriest excuse for a captain ever!” Sanji snapped, grabbing Luffy by the shirt and jerking him back and forth. “Do you even realize how our precious angel, Mira could’ve been injured- “
“I’m fine, Sanji,” I pointed out again.
“Do you have any idea how much trouble you put us in?” Nami scolded Luffy.
“And you!” she turned on me. “You were supposed to keep him out of trouble.”
“I tried, but he’s a fast bastard, makes messes quicker than I can clean them up.”
She sighed, turning back to Luffy. “Can you at least try to act like a captain some time?”
“I’m sorry,” he apologized. “Wait, where’s Ace?”
Luffy shot up and looked out over the railing.
“You were with your brother, huh?” Zoro asked.
“Wait? Your brother?” Chopper asked, as he sat up.
“You didn’t just leave him, did you?”
“Um… Sort of, but it’s okay. He’s really strong,” Luffy explained.
“So how strong is he?” Chopper inquired.
“Well let me put it like this, when we were younger, I was never able to beat him in a fight, and this was way before he ever ate the flame flame fruit. That’s how strong my big brother is.”
“You mean to tell that there there’s a flesh and blood person out there that you can’t beat?” Nami was clearly shocked by this information. For the East Blue, Luffy was a force to be reckoned with, but he was nothing compared to some of the people that I had met on the other side of the Red Line.
“The big brother of a monster is an even bigger monster,” Usopp said.
“I guess so, because Ace used to beat me up all the time, but I bet now I could kick his big butt.”
“I’d like to see you try. So exactly whose butt is getting kicked?” Ace asked, hopping up on the railing, causing Luffy to fall over.
“Hey, Ace! This is my crew I was telling you about!”
“Nice to meet you. Thanks for taking care of my kid brother. I know he’s a handful.”
The others were clearly taken off guard by his manners. It was surprising. You didn’t often hear about polite pirates, especially not those under a yonko. Of course, having seen how Luffy behaved, it was even harder to believe that someone like Ace could be related to him.
“Oh no, not at all,” everyone save for me echoed. I pulled a face at their behavior. Polite or not, everyone knew Luffy. Ace knew him better than all of us, meaning that there was no way Ace would believe that.
“Oh, come on. Be honest. This is Luffy we’re talking about. Isn’t he a bit much for you to handle sometimes?”
“Not at all.”
“You’re good people,” Ace said.
“Well sit down and relax. I’m sure you have some catching up to do. I’ll make some tea,” Sanji offered.
“No. That’s thoughtful, but I don’t want to impose.” Ace lit Sanji’s cigarette.
“Well he’s certainly not what I expected,” Sanji said.
“I’ll say,” Zoro seconded Sanji’s statement.
“He’s clearly something if he has you two agreeing,” I chirped.
The two looked at each other, horrified, before glaring at each other.
“Whatever,” Zoro mumbled, glare focused on me for a moment.
“Listen Moss Head, you-“
“Settle down, Sanji,” I said, putting a hand on his shoulder.
“He’s polite helpful and gracious, the polar opposite of Luffy,” Usopp pointed out.
Nami continued. “One only cares about stuffing his face. There’s no way that these two can be brothers.”
“While the other only cares about his brother,” Zoro added.
“I wish I had a wonderful brother like that,” Chopper cried.
“Forget brother. I wish I had a wonderful captain like that.”
“Sanji!” Vivi scolded, putting her hands up in a placating manor. “He’s kidding.”
“See, I told you they were interesting,” Luffy chuckled.
My eyes caught the line of ships appear on the horizon. “But they’re not.”
Vivi exclaimed. “Baroque Works?! Those are the billions ships!”
“Those guys again?”
“Luffy, leave it to me. I’ll handle it,” Ace said.
All eyes were on Ace. He hopped off the Merry onto a tiny little skipper type thing.
“I wouldn’t worry about him if I were you,” Zoro said. “They don’t let just anyone become the second division commander of the Whitebeard pirates.”
Using the power of his devil fruit he powered his little skipper flying towards Crocodile’s goons. His stance was casual, hands in his pockets, posture slouched. Once he was close, he pushed off. The skipper dove under the ships, while Ace jumped up and flew overhead, his lower half turning into flames propelling himself above the ships.
He landed on his feet on his skipper on the other side, and cocked his fist back, his hand turning into flame. “Fire fist!” he yelled, throwing a punch. The flames burst forth from his hand breaking through ship after ship, until it they were all in pieces sinking to the bottom of the ocean.
The others stared at the scene in awe, save Luffy, who was laughing and cheering with glee.
“Sanji, why don’t you make us all a snack? I’ll get the mugs and bust out the booze,” I proposed. “If that’s okay with you, Captain.”
“Woo! Party!” Luffy cheered.
Sanji and I moved in tandem in our small kitchen, him cooking, while I busted out the mugs and filled them with booze, setting them on a tray, so that I could carry them out for everyone.
Ace had returned to the ship and was sitting on a barrel, while Chopper, Luffy and Usopp sat in a circle on the deck.
“Woo hoo! Time to celebrate!” Luffy hollered as I handed out their drinks, tucking the empty tray under my arm.
“Here’s to Fire Fist Ace!” Usopp yelled, seeming to not notice it was me dosing out mugs.
“Cheers!” the three of them raised their glasses.
“Wait. Who said I was joining your crew?”
“Don’t worry. You can’t take anything they say seriously when they’re like this,” Nami explained as the boys continued to toast to various things.
I shook my head at their antics.
“Hey, are you sure you don’t want to join us? It’ll be fun. I promise.”
“I can’t right now,” Ace said, voice serious. “I’m chasing someone. He’s a pirate named Blackbeard.”
“Blackbeard?”
“I’ve heard of him. He was the one, who attacked Drum Kingdom,” Vivi explained.
“You see Blackbeard, used to be a member of the second division of the Whitebeard Pirates. He was one of my own men, but he committed the most unforgivable sin that I pirate could. He killed one of his fellow crew members then he jumped ship. As commander of his division, it’s my responsibility to take care of him.”
“So that’s why you’re here,” I deduced.
“I heard he was going to a place called Yuba, so that’s where I’m heading.”
“Hey, that’s our destination too, right?” Nami asked.
“Exactly.” Vivi pulled out a map of Alabasta. “We just entered the Sandora River. We’ll take it to Erumalu, where we’ll dock. Then we’ll trek on foot, until we reach Yuba, here. The leader of the rebel army is there. That’s where we’re going.”
“You don’t say. Do you mind if I tag along?” Ace asked.
“Nami, Vivi, I’ll follow you wherever you go,” Sanji cooed.
“Hopefully, it’s off of a cliff,” Zoro snipped.
“WHAT DID YOU SAY ZORO!?” Sanji yelled, getting in Zoro’s face.
“Cool it you two!” Nami barked. “Well it looks like we’ll have you for a little while Ace.”
“We’re happy to have you aboard,” Sanji said.
“This is going to be fun! To Ace!”
“To Ace!” we echoed, toasting.

Author’s Note: Hey people, it's been a while. Sorry about that. Some shit has happened. Uh. 1.) I graduated college. 2.) I did another internship. 3.) I turned that internship into a job. So yeah. Mira as I've mentioned takes a lot of time, because I have to watch the episodes in order to write it, which I haven't had the chance to do, because I work full-time at job 1 (which also involves a stupid two hour commute), every other Saturday at job 2 and Sundays are spent helping out my grandfather. So it's been hard to find time for Mira, hence the lack of updates here.I have been able to do some other stuff though, stuff that doesn't require me to watch anything to move forward with it, so if you havne't please go check out Throne. It's that Shanks thing that I kept saying I was gonna work on and then just didn't. It's been a lot of fun to write, so there's that. Uh... I've also started a writing blog, I don't know if I mentioned that since my last review. If you feel like it, check it out on tumblr at teroinreadsteroinwrites, which is also my new user name here, so that's another change. Jesus a whole lot can happen in some months. But yeah, go check that out. I have a master list to all of my works, including stuff that doesn't really fit on fanfic and I'm going to start posting updates about the writing process, so if you want to know what I'm working on or have questions that you don't want to leave in a review head over there. I'm always happy to talk. It also has my rec list, which is as complete as it's going to get at the moment. Uh... What else? There's a Kid oneshot called Terrible if you want to look at that, and I've missed you guys. Sorry it's taken so long to update, but you know life.

Day 1 (5/9)
I woke up at around 6:45 AM to make an 11 AM flight to Qatar. I met up with my friend Jon at a bagel place near the A train, then took the hour long subway ride out to JFK. On our flight to Qatar I sat in the very last row, 47G, next to a large man from Albany who was visiting a friend in Kuwait. During the 12 hour flight he fell asleep multiple times and encroached on my side of the arm rest, which frustrated me. I watched three movies during the flight: The Front Runner with High Jackman, Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, and Green Book with Viggo Mortensen and Mehershala Ali. I also wrote two articles and ate a considerable amount of spongy airplane food. Overall I’d call it a productive flight.
The airport in Qatar is very modern, so much so that it has no distinguishing features whatsoever. It’s really like a very nice mall with some airplane gates in it. We met a girl from Ontario, Canada who was also on our flight to Bali, and we decided we’d all stick together until it came time to board our plane. We got chicken nuggets at Burger King and I drank banana milk out of a juice box. Once we boarded the flight we were surprised to see that there was barely anyone on it. After about an hour I found a completely abandoned row on the plane, sprawled out, and slept for four hours. I woke up, grabbed some water, then slept for another hour and a half. With only two hours and thirty minutes remaining in the flight, I watched Whiplash with J.K. Simmons.
We arrived in Bali at 11 PM local time. Getting through the airport was simple enough, and we met our driver outside. He drove us to our Airbnb in Seminyak—a beautiful open air house with lots of lush greens and sand gardens. All the rooms had king sized beds, and there was a terrance and roof deck with very nice views. We went for a dip and then I tried to go to sleep, but sleep never came. The girl we met in the airport texted us around 1 AM to let us know she had been robbed of her passport and money by a man on a motorcycle leaving the airport.
Day 2 (5/10)
I didn’t sleep at all the first night. Jon came in my room at around 6:30 AM to tell me he hadn’t slept either. No surprise considering how jet lagged we were. We decided to go for a walk into town. We found a modern looking cafe named Livingstone and had an American-esque breakfast of eggs and bacon. Then we went for a walk down to the beach.
The main way to the beach from our Airbnb was a fairly run down road that was jam packed (even at 7 AM) with folks riding motorized scooters. However, many of the bars, shops, and restaurants along the road were quite fancy, which makes for a weird juxtaposition. It felt like the road was built long before Seminyak became the tourist hotspot it is today.
When we reached the beach we walked south to Kuta and gazed at all the fancy hotels and villas that looked as if they had been built within the last 10 years. Then we turned around and walked back to our Airbnb in time to hang out in the pool all morning listening to music. Our friends Lee and Ty arrived around 11 AM and we again walked down to the beach—this time to get some drinks at a little shack. Then we met up with our other friend Eddie, who lives in Bali. From there we went to Potato Head , a really fun beachside club where you can eat delicious food, drink cool drinks, and look at great booties.
That night we went out to a bar in Seminyak called La Favela with the Canadian girl who had gotten robbed and some of her friends. La Favela is a massive and sprawling bar and restaurant that turns into a gigantic dance floor after hours. It reminded me of the enormous bars you see in Spring Break towns like Panama City, only much nicer. We danced for a considerably long time, then headed back to the Airbnb late night for some swimming.
Day 3 (5/11)
On Sunday we all agreed we needed to go back to Potato Head, only this time we would get a day bed. These are comfy little poolside mattresses where you can order food and drinks and lay out in the sun all day. However, if you want to get one you either need show up right when the club opens, or make a reservation ahead of time (we did the former). Over the course of 8 hours we ordered breakfast, lunch, and dinner for five and roughly two dozen alcoholic beverages (fancy stuff too, like mojitos and Long Island Iced Teas and stuff you drink out of a coconut) for a total cost of $300. I spent the day going from the pool to the bar to the poolside bar to the day bed. It was great.
Around 6:30PM we watched the sunset on the beach. Bali sunsets are really quite pleasant, and tons of people gather around to watch them, making it a fun shared experience. That night we decided to head north of Seminyak to another beach town called Canggu. There we went to another large outdoor bar called Oldman’s that had live music. It was filled with rowdy Australians and Englishmen not wearing shirts. When the bars closed around 1 AM, we went down the road to Sand Bar, another large bar on the beach where people dance until the sun comes up. To be candid, it was one of the crazier bars I have ever been to.
Day 4 (5/12)
Partied out from the weekend, we gathered our possessions and hired a driver to take us to Ubud. Before we left we visited a very Instagram-able cafe near our Airbnb where I ate something called a Swiss Roti. There are many places in Bali that provide food and an atmosphere designed for social media.
The ride from Seminyak to Ubud took about an hour and thirty minutes—mostly because the roads are all one lane and jam-packed with motor scooters. Aside from that, driving through Bali didn’t really make me feel like I was in another country. Almost everything is written in English, and most areas that I saw are fairly built up and modern looking.
Our Ubud Airbnb was even bigger than the one we had in Seminyak. It also came with its own staff that cooked us breakfast and made our reservations (for a total cost of $90 per person for two nights). Once we had settled in we went for a walk into town. Being that Ubud is in the middle of the jungle, the entire area is filled with lush greenery. We went for a hike along a valley and took in some views, then headed into the center of town to a movie theater called Paradiso where we bought tickets to watch the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones. The theater was filled with expats (as most of Ubud is) and the lighting wasn’t ideal, but overall it was a cool experience. After the episode ended we grabbed a simple dinner in town and went home.
Day 5 (5/13)
For Tuesday we had booked a day-long tour with a tour guide a friend of mine had put me in touch with. For $50 American dollars he agreed to drive us around all day long and show us the most popular attractions in and around Ubud. We woke up around 7 AM and ate a delicious crepe breakfast prepared by our in-house staff. Then we piled into an SUV driven by the tour guide—named Komang.
The first stop on the tour was the Ubud Monkey Forest. This is pretty much what it sounds like—a nice little forest where you can walk around and look at long tail monkeys. The monkeys run around and play with each other, and, for the most part, don’t mess with humans (as long as humans don’t mess with them). Still, we were told to keep our phones, wallets, and other possessions close, less a monkey get any clever ideas.
The next stop on our tour was the Tengenungan Waterfall—a decent drive outside of Ubud. The waterfall is cool looking enough, and everyone can jump into the water and swim near the waterfall, allowing you to really feel the force of the water crashing down.
After that we went to Bali Swing, a sort of ropes course located in the middle of a rice terrace. The farmers grow the rice in a terrace formation for irrigation purposes, but they are also quite nice to look at. At Bali Swing you can sign up for a variety of different activities, including zip lining and (you guessed it) a swing set that swings you over the edge of a cliff and gives you a neat view of the rice terrace. There is also a tandem air bike, which Jon and I decided to do. This is a bike attached to a harness that you can pedal along a wire over the rice terrace. To the naked eye, it almost looks like you are riding a back across the sky—ET style. Riding the bike was a bit nerve wracking at first, especially because every time the bike shook I felt like it was going to fall off the wire. But by the end we were able to relax and take in the view.
Afterwards we went on a little hike through the rice terrace and took in some nature. Then we went to a nearby restaurant where I had my first traditional Balinese meal—a cone of rice with a bunch of random meats, vegetables, and fishes in little bowls that you can mix in. This is also where I had my first banana juice in Bali. The banana juice is quite literally a liquified banana, but the juice tastes so sweet and creamy that I indulged many more times throughout the trip.
After lunch was the Kopi Plantation, a plantation where they make coffee out of feces from the Luwak—a nocturnal cat-like animal native to Bali. The Luwak enjoys eating coffee beans, and the digested beans (once cleaned and roasted) happen to make some of the most delicious and expensive coffee in the world.
The last stop on the tour was the Pura Tirta Temple. This is a Hindu Temple where you are invited to throw on a water-proof sarong and climb into a pool. From there you can swim up to a variety of different spouts and bath in the rush of cold water— the idea being that you are washing the sin off of yourself.
With our sins cleaned away, we headed back toward Ubud. However, our progress was disrupted by a parade of people marching through town toward a temple for some sort of celebration. This is fairly common in Bali, as there are over 180 holidays on the Balinese calendar. In the end we were late for dinner, but we were a little more cultured for it. Dinner was at a fancy vegan restaurant called Zest. Vegan restaurants are a dime a dozen in Bali, but this one was especially delicious. I indulged in a steak made of jackfruit, and also snacked on some vegan nachos and pizza. Exhausted from our day-long journey, we called it a night after dinner.
Day 6 (5/14)
We had deliberately only booked the first five days of the trip because we wanted to have flexibility to do what we wanted. On Tuesday night we all agreed to visit the Gili Islands next—a set of three small islands off the coast of Lombok, roughly an hour away by boat. Our in-house staff helped us with the arrangements, and Wednesday morning a shuttle took us to Padang Bai, where we caught a ferry across the Java Sea to Gili Trawangan (AKA “Gili T”)—the largest and most developed of the islands.
But “developed” is still a generous term. There are no paved roads in Gili, rather dirt paths. There is a bike trail that goes around the entire perimeter of the island, which is where most of the bars and restaurants and shops and hotels are located. Our Airbnb was not on the perimeter of the island, but several blocks in. When we checked in we also learned that Ramadan is currently ongoing, which is why Muslim prayers were being blasted from a loudspeaker perched atop a minaret across the entire island (unlike Bali, which is Hindu, most other parts of Indonesia are Muslim). Being that it was Ramadan, most of the island closed up early. We eventually learned that the island was at barely 20% capacity of what it usually is.
Regardless, we still found a way to have fun. First we rented bikes and rode the entire island (which took all of an hour). Then we found a nice spot on the beach to watch the sun set, which was even nicer than the sun set in Bali. We grabbed dinner at a restaurant called Naty’s, then popped into a few bars around the area (all but one of which closed at 11 pm). There were still plenty of people out and about, even if it was a far cry from the crowded bars in Bali. When we did get to bed early in the morning, we were awakened shortly thereafter by the 3 AM prayer, and then the 6 AM prayer.
Day 7 (5/15)
Our Airbnb in Gili was certainly the weakest of the bunch. We stayed in a set of three bungalows that lacked hot water and featured toilets that flushed inconsistently. But the two guys who worked there cooked us breakfast and gave us all the free orange juice we could ask for (again, juice in Indonesia is delicious). For Thursday we had arranged to take a scuba diving class at a facility a few blocks from our Airbnb. When we arrived a nice instructor named Sandra went over some scuba diving ground rules and made us watch a safety video. Then we strapped on wet suits and air tanks and hopped into a pool.
There is definitely a bit more to scuba diving than I considered. For instance, there are things you need to do to make sure your goggles don’t fog up, and that your ears aren’t bursting in pain as water pressure builds. There are also a variety of hand signals you have to learn so you can communicate with your instructor underwater. After about 30 minutes in the pool, I felt like I was ready to give it a shot for real.
We rode out in a boat from Gili T to an area closer to Gili Meno. Beneath the water there was a floating pier that had sunk about 10 years ago and was now a popular hangout for tropical fish. We strapped on our gear and fell backwards off the boat. For the first ten minutes underwater I remember having a really hard time seeing and feeling very worried that I might be doing something wrong. But once I was able to un-fog my goggles, I was awestruck by what I saw—thousands of fish swimming around a giant structure that had been reclaimed by the sea. So I flapped around for as long as I could, taking in the sites. About 25 minutes in I looked at my air gauge and was alarmed to learn I only had 50 PSI left (We started at 200 PSI and were instructed to alert someone when our gauge reaches this level). Shortly thereafter we all clicked a button on our scuba suits that inflated our life vests and allowed us to rise to the surface.
All in all we lasted 29 minutes. We would later learn from our instructor that we all wasted too much oxygen because we were waving our arms and legs around so much and not controlling our breathing. Good divers can last up to an hour and 30 minutes by swimming correctly and taking deeper breaths, but the excitement and novelty of the situation caused us all to sort of freak out. Oh well, it was still a cool experience.
After we washed up, Jon and I went on another bike ride—this time through the middle of the island. Then we watched another sun set and we all grabbed a nice dinner on the beach (I had chicken and very fresh calamari).
Day 8 (5/16)
Friday we took the ferry back from Gili T to Bali and caught a cheap cab to Canggu. We decided the night before to stay in Canggu over Uluwatu because Canggu has a better party scene. We had another nice Airbnb with in-house staff, although not as nice as the Airbnbs we had stayed in in Seminyak and Ubud. When we got there we asked our in-house staff to arrange to have massages set up for us. After our massages we went out to a very nice steak dinner at a place called Mason’s. A word about Canggu: It feels like a nicer Seminyak. It’s less congested, the restaurants and bars are nicer, and the area just feels generally cleaner. It’s almost like Bali took all the lessons it learned from developing Seminyak and applied them when building up Canggu.
After dinner (I had the pork loin) we once again went to Oldman’s and then Sand Bar, because one time just wasn’t enough.
Day 9 (5/17)
Speaking of one time not being enough, on Saturday we decided to go to a beach club again. This time the beach club we visited was Finn’s, which a woman later described to me as a “classier” Potato Head. It was also slightly more expensive ($390 for the day for 4 people), but we still got all the great food and alcohol we wanted (as well as two more banana juices), plus a killer sun set and lots of friendly people to hang out with.
Saturday night (our last night) we started at a bar called Backyard’s, but ended the night at Sand Bar. It may seem repetitive, but it really doesn’t get much better than partying on an Indonesian beach until the sun rises.
Day 10 (5/18)
Our last day in Bali, we hired a driver to take us to Uluwatu, an area on the southern tip of Bali that features beautiful cliffside views of the ocean and a famous Hindu Temple. After walking the temple (literally named “Uluwatu Temple”) and watching a monkey steal some guys sunglasses, we asked our driver to take us somewhere where we could buy some mementos for the trip. Unfortunately, great shopping isn’t why you come to Bali, and I couldn’t really find anything that interesting, save a “I 🌴 BALI” shirt.
We ended the day at a hotel restaurant and bar called the Double Six in Seminyak, where we took in one last great Bali sunset. Then we piled into a van and went home.
Final Thoughts:
Money: I spent a grand total of $2,300 on this trip, including my flight. In my opinion, that’s ridiculously cheap. We didn’t try to spare any expense while traveling—we stayed in nice Airbnbs, ate at nice restaurants, and bought plenty of drinks. Still, everything is so cheap it’s almost difficult to overspend. Meals cost under $10 and cabs to distant locations are no more than $5 a head. I can’t think of a single instance in which I felt something was too expensive.
Beverages: The beverage game in Bali is on another level. Every restaurant, cafe, and bar you go to has an elaborate drink menu featuring smoothies, juices, elixirs, “mocktails,” and shots with ginger in them—and it’s all delicious! The fruit in Bali is so fresh that all of the smoothies and juices are bursting with flavor. I only wish I could get banana juice that good in New York.
Food: I didn’t find Balinese food to be that unique. Really, the whole island is so westernized that you can get a burger, pasta, or bacon and eggs almost anywhere. There were some more traditional Balinese dishes, mainly rice based, but they never struck me as that appetizing. If you’re a foodie, you can definitely get some good meals in Bali, but don’t expect to be immersed in a world of traditional Balinese cooking, because I don’t think that’s a thing.
People: Balinese people are mild mannered and extremely accommodating. The Balinese economy is based primarily on tourism, so the Balinese want to be as helpful as possible to all the white people (and there are a lot of them). Speaking of the white people, I found that most of them were either Australian, English, Scandinavian, or Canadian, with a few Americans mixed in. Many of them were either staying in Bali long term, or taking a multi-month trip around all of southeast Asia. When we told folks we were only visiting for 10 days, they seemed to be almost surprised we would choose to spend such little time in a place like this.
Truth is, I wish I had more time there. It’s been four days since I returned, and I’m already daydreaming about going back. The island is cheap yet extremely modern, meaning you can live very comfortably. Furthermore, it’s just a good time. The beaches are gorgeous, the woman are beautiful, and there is a party every night of the week. I’m fairly certain this won’t be my last trip to Bali.
Bali Trip Day 1 (5/9) I woke up at around 6:45 AM to make an 11 AM flight to Qatar.

Day 5: 828 Words
Scattered. And also happy. It's a Monday and I have indulged myself in meditating, swimming, taking photos and videos for everyday art on instagram, and ordering flowers for a friend in Sweden who had surgery today. All those things, I enjoy doing.
Monkey mind having a hard time catching up. Jeez, all that Monday energy that is so deeply embedded in the psyche, and I know I'm not alone in that. It's mildly depressing, noticing how hard I work to be conscious and self-aware of things and then, to actually change things! It's AOK for me - I enjoy the process. I try not to superimpose all this on the "out there" world - because it seems to make changing attitudes nearly impossible. Then again, dramatic events can change attitudes almost overnight. So, I'm relying on that for now.
I lean toward Pollyanna points of view. And the beauty of this universe is that there's always so-called "good news" everywhere. :-)
[pause for blank mind]
[still blank. going to out myself for having strong urges at the moment to go look at twitter or instagram, or both. I'm not used to dealing with a blank canvas. meaning, I usually can start creating without much effort. the blank canvas doesn't scare me or intimidate me. I have the opposite problem. so I'll wait.]
Ok, so let's talk about that. How I have so much inside me, so many ideas, so many things on my to do list and my want to do list. So many things I want to learn, to make, to experience. I've never understood boredom. I'm overly gifted in the "bloom where you're planted" genes, much to the occasional irritation of others. My weakness is not knowing how or what to push out of the way so I can satisfy myself with some completion.
Caveat: for work-related stuffs, I am all about the focus and the due dates and the completions. You'd think I had sticky notes all over my office saying, "Clients Must Come First!" because they have. But I don't. (Don't have the stickies.) That dictum is solidly entrenched in my operating system. No need to waste the paper! There has been a ticking time clock, making sure a billable hour gets going before too much time passes.
Haha, my critic wanted me to write, "before too much LAZY time passes." Thanks for that. I wasn't aware that she really does believe if it's not billable, I'm being lazy. The hysterical irony is that you could ask anyone who knows me even slightly, "Is she lazy?" they would exclaim, "Never! She doesn't even know what that word means."
SO this lovely trait of mine, curious about the world, wanting to know things, and loving being helpful to others, has been hijacked by the scared mini me into forcing an "always on" routine for MOI.
Before I go too far, I want to remind us all here that I've made huuuuge progress in turning off. This past year, I've learned how to go to the sofa after lunch and goof off on my iPad - a random mix of reading, social media, Solitaire - the game. Bonus points for when those activities lead to, wait for it, A Nap.
If I were still a motivational speaker, I would use this moment to say something trite like,
"If I can do it, so can you!"
Of course, that would be a lie. I'm not saying anything about you. I'm only saying I have no idea who you are, what you want, or what you're willing to suffer through to get what you want.
It's funny to me in this moment how easily many of us are attracted to motivational speakers and instagrammers, many of whom basically get paid to tell us lies. I don't mean to be negative. I only mean to call out the irrationality of thinking that one's person's road to "success" will produce the same results for the hordes of others.
It's more useful to talk about the tools of self-awareness and learn the sneaky ways humans undermine themselves, than to memorize a bullet-pointed list. Lots of people are realizing that now and that's another thing that makes me happy. Silly, I know, because all of it is none of my business, if I'm truthful.
I'm curious about that place between reading others and learning about their insights, not to copy them but to see if they shine a light on my dancing demon, she who is lives in fear of life and who tries to control me. Just don't send me any formulas, please. And thank you.
Guess what? I'm experiencing boredom in this moment. Bored of these thoughts - I've had them so many times. Feeling a little regret for giving them the page today.
So be it. I'm done. And I am happy I did my writing. Maybe I'll call this a "flush the toilet" session.
Bye bye.
