i looked it up and in 2022 taylor swift would have caused around 14,217.49 metric tonnes* of carbon emissions by use of her private jet alone. so that is not more but on par with the total greenhouse gas emissions in 2022 from the countries of
Anguilla 🇦🇮 28,000 metric tonnes
Falkland Islands 🇫🇰 25,000 metric tonnes
Saint Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cunha 🇸🇭 20,000 metric tonnes
t swift ✈️ 14,217 metric tonnes
and remember this is 2022 so before the eras tour and before she started dating the football guy and her shortest flight in 2022 (as of the study) was 36 minutes while just last week she took a 13 minute flight
anyways here are my sources teehee countries & swift
*you’ll see the number 8,293.54 floating around a lot but that study was only from Jan 1, 2022 - July 29, 2022. so do the math that averages about 1,184.79 per month.

Fake News
First tumblr Story Ever
As the newest Avenger it seemed that Tony Stark and Captain Rogers were more than comfortable sending you out on all of the shit missions, granted, you could use the time in with your new teammates to learn their little quirks and start working to meld your abilities with theirs so that you could start working together seamlessly, but it was getting ridiculous. You were half expecting to start getting told to go out and help the NYFD rescue kittens from trees and helping the NYPD direct traffic on Broadway in Manhattan during rush hour. Y/N was a technopath, which was a fancy name for someone who could control technology and anything mechanical with their mind, or if you wanted to be technical about it, according to the official S.H.I.E.L.D. dossier:
Y/L/N, Y/N: Main Ability: Technology Manipulation
User can manipulate technology, the sum of techniques, skills, methods, and
processes used in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment
of objectives. However, most users only can exert control over technological
constructs, such as computers, robots, hardware, and other devices that can be
termed as "technology", in any way. Manifested as a special form of electrical/telekinetic manipulation, a special form of "morphing" which allows physical interaction with machines, or even a psychic ability that allows mental interface with computer data.

Pretty cool, huh? Anyway, spring was coming to a close and summer was just around the corner. Tony asked me and Sam Wilson, you may know him as Falcon, to head to midtown
Manhattan because there were some “unsavory” characters hanging around Grand Central Station.
Turns out it was some low-level HYDRA minions that were basically trying to see what kind of trouble they could cause, they had planted a pipe bomb in a waste bin in the middle of the station and it was a Friday when thousands of people would be traveling through the station heading to and from work and school. I think that HYDRA was more or less just testing us Avengers out to what abilities we had and see if there are any hidden capabilities we possessed before they come at us for a full-scale attack.
Sam and I arrived and were able to find the pipe bomb relatively quickly, part of my ability is being able to read the signatures of different technologies and mechanics, and if you don’t think that a bomb countdown timer throws out a red flag, you are mistaken. Anyway, we found it, and rather than call bomb and arson with New York’s Finest, I was able to manipulate the mechanics myself using my mind. I shut down the detonator without ever touching the bomb and made the whole thing inactive within a few minutes time.
Easy peasy, 10 minutes, another fast sweep which took an additional 30 minutes, and Sam and I were finished and ready for our close-ups from the media that always, inevitably followed. We had a small group of media that always showed up whenever a call went out that an Avenger was “working” and there was almost always a small fan base at Grand Central or where ever we were working who would come up to thank us, like we were some sort of rock stars, and as per usual some of the younger men and women took the opportunity to do some flirting with us. Tony told us, unattached Avengers, that any publicity and light flirting and playfulness with the fans was good publicity and would help for the public to relate to us and see us in a positive light. I am not going to lie, I may or may not have had a little thing for our resident speedy Sokovian, but our little flirting in the compound never seemed to go beyond that, flirting. I thought there was a possibility he liked me also, but, so far, nothing. Although I did catch him staring at me quite often and Wanda and some of the guys were always talking to him and then immediately looking in her direction like they were just discussing her. Pietro did seem to always try to be around me and sit near me as often as possible as well. Also when the “fans” would flirt with him, I noticed he never really showed much interest in them, always watching to see what I was doing.
Oh well, time to spend a little time with the crowd before Sam and I headed back to the compound. The New York Times was talking to some travelers about the pipe bomb that was found in the wastebasket and what their thoughts were and how they felt about us being there to “save the day, yet again” when an overzealous “fan” started to get a little handsy with me in the background. He had followed me around and asked me to dinner a few times, flashing cash and his business card a few times, trying to press it into my hand multiple times. I explained I was really bust and thanked him but said I was not interested or available, but he kept perusing me. He was leaning over my shoulder with his hand around my waist from behind, body pulled directly flush with my back and he was in an excited state if you know what I mean, and he was whispering in my ear about some of his fantasies and things that he has dreamt of doing to me. Of course, the camera flashed right as he started to kiss my neck and I had a smile on my face because I was focusing on a sweet 10 year old in front of me asking for my autograph and telling me I was her favorite avenger. If the camera had waited all of 5 seconds more, they would have caught me performing a minor assault on the prick and another 5 seconds would have caught Sam pulling me off of him and flying us out of the station and back to the compound with his hand over my mouth because I let lose a string of explicative’s that would put Wade Wilson to shame.
The next morning I woke up and took a shower, went down to the kitchen and made my normal toast and juice and bowl of fruit, and could not help notice that the Avengers that were there were looking at me strangely, I thought it was because I was still in a sour mood because of that jerk from yesterday and the icky feeling he gave me that I was assaulted by scum. I knew that Rogers, Wanda, Sam, and Nat were on their way to Lagos on a mission. Thor and Banner were MIA since Sokovia, which left Stark, Rhodey, Vision, Pietro and I still here.
“Y/N, so, how was the pipe bomb incident yesterday?” Tony asked seemingly hinting at something
“Uneventful aside from a slight annoyance in the crowd, is there coffee left?” Y/N responded looking at him while rising to get a mug and pour a hot mug to clear the remaining sleep from my head.
“Nothing happened? Nobody special you want to tell us about?” Rhodey chimes in.
“Not that I am aware of or worth mentioning now that it’s done and over with, is there something you would like to tell me about?” Y/N asks looking back and forth to them. “Hey, where’s Speedy, he’s usually down here eating everything that isn’t trying to eat him first.”
Tony looks at Y/N and smirks, “It is strange that you should mention that, he came in about 20 minutes ago, I assume you were in the shower or I am sure you would have heard him, saw the cover of the New York Times, flipped out and, well, here you are, please take a look, we are on pins and needles to know what you think. And I hope you know that all suitors must meet the full team before you becoming an “item” and pass Avenger inspection, and Rogers is particularly tough.” He slid the paper across the kitchen island to where you sat, both he and Rhodey watching your face for a reaction. You unfolded the paper confused and looked at the front cover.
There in black and white at you was a close up of the stranger with his arms around your waist from behind, you leaning slightly forward smiling and the stranger kissing your neck, the little girl you were smiling at was covered by the person being interviewed in the foreground. To someone who was not there and did not know the story, this definitely looked bad, like a very intimate moment caught on film, the headline read ‘Newest Avenger Moving Fast With New York Wall Street Trader’ the article went on to talk about how you just met the guy and did not bother to get his name, but just let him put the moves on you, yadda, yadda, yadda. Apparently, after Sam got you out of there, the “gentleman: in question decided to make a name for himself and gave a short interview making it sound like you approached him and started the whole flirt fest, lead him on, and then abandoned him, with the promise to return. You looked at Tony and Rhodey with wide eyes and a sick feeling in your stomach, “This is the biggest load of shit I have ever read in my life, this is not anything at all what happened. About 3 seconds after this picture was snapped, I basically slapped the taste out of his mouth and would have continued to do so had Sam not gotten me out of there. Flirting? More like this guy assaulted me. This was not consensual or wanted. I told him multiple times I was not interested and refused his advances and invitations to dinner and he kept bothering me. I was talking to a little kid and he pulled this crap when I had my back turned to him.”
Tony went from joking to serious almost instantly, “Okay, we were just going to bust your balls on this a little bit, but this has just become a non-joke. I’ll have Pepper contact someone in Stark Industries legal department to get in touch with the paper to track this guy down, he’ll have had to sign a waiver for publication and we’re going to go after him for liable and harassment. If he tries to come after you for battery for the assault, well, we’ll call that defense, Avenger or not, no one gets to touch you without permission. Y/n we really didn’t know, we were just going to play around with you about this a little, and we had no idea. He didn’t do any weird stuff, right?”
“NO, I mean, I slapped him and Sam pulled me off of him and flew me out of there, anything beyond what he did to me and you would have been getting a call from New York’s finest about bail or my court hearing for homicide. I was shocked, but if it had gone beyond what it was, I would have raged a lot harder than I did. The headline in the paper would have read a lot differently today.” Y/N responded.
“Alright, I know that yesterday was weird and I know that Nat and Wanda have had to deal with crap like this from time to time, unfortunately being an attractive woman on the team seems to let the guys out there think that it is open season to treat you ladies like meat. It is unfair and it sucks and if any of the men on the team are around just say the word and well step in and make sure the guys know it’s not okay, or step back and let you take care of it yourself, whatever you feel more comfortable with. In the meantime, take the weekend off and go to a spa or go shopping or to the movies or whatever you need to do to feel better, charge everything to Stark okay. Just let us know if you need anything alright.” Tony hugged you with one arm and kissed the top of your head. “One thing though, Lightning Legs. He flipped out when he saw this. He thought it was true and got hot and bothered. I would suggest finding him and letting him know what is really going on because the last thing you need right now is a crazy Sokovian kid acting like a jealous boyfriend right now.”
You look us at Tony and across the island to Rhodey, “What is that all about, what is he flipping out about, he brags about all the women he is into and dated back in Sokovia all the time, what does he care about what happens to me?”
“Y/N are you serious? That kid has been crazy in love with you since Sokovia. I swear I was coming close to sending you both on a mission that involved a tropical island and a case of rum soon. If he’s not staring at you, you are staring at him. It’s sickening.” Tony finished with a sarcastic eye roll. Go relax in your room, we'll take care of this. Just try to put it from your mind and well talk soon. With that, you left and headed to the elevator bank to the sleeping quarters level, feeling shitty, but better because you knew Tony would do what he could to help.
You were only in your Bedroom Suite for about half an hour when there was a somewhat frantic knocking at your door. You got up from your bed, put down the book you were currently reading, and made your way to the door, opening it, you found a seemingly tormented Pietro, he entered your quarters without an invitation and started to pace the length of your room, looking at you, Y/N could tell he needed to speak, but he was not sure where or how to start.
“Y/N, I ……. The newspaper, I saw the picture and…… Who is he? Do you like him? I mean does he make you happy? I want you to be happy……… I know that no one will ever be able to………. Not like I do………” Pietro kept starting and stopping sentences, never actually completing any, and getting agitated. You had never seen him this disconcerted before, he was always so unruffled when he would flirt with you before and this was a whole new side to him that you had never seen before. It was like he was unsure of himself and it was not something he was sure of how to process. You walked towards where Pietro was walking seemingly carrying on an argument with himself and reached out for his hands.
“Pietro, please stop, okay, please. It is not what you think, I don’t know that guy. It was fake, it was false, I don’t know him, I did not ask for that, I did not tell him it was okay to touch me or kiss me like that, I was not alright with that, He did that without my permission, and the photographer took a picture and they wrote some fake story to make it seem like I was into it. I did not want that. I don’t know him, I feel disgusted by that.” You start to rub your neck where the creep kissed you, sat down on the plush cushioned ottoman bench at the foot of your bed and start to curl into yourself to make yourself as small as possible as Pietro looks at you taking in your words.
“Wait, moja bohyňa (my goddess,) some guy you do not know came up to you and started to touch you and kiss you without your permission? No, I will not allow this, who is this man; I will go fight him right now. Žiadny odpadok sa nemôže dotknúť mojej bohyne bez jej súhlasu. Nikomu by nemalo byť dovolené pozerať sa na ňu bez toho, aby sa poďakoval bohom, že bola stvorená. (No trash can touch my goddess without her consent. No man should ever be allowed to look on her, without thanking the gods that she was created.) Are you okay?” He sat on the bench next to you giving you plenty of space, not wanting to crowd you. “I will kill this man, why would he think he could touch you, Bohyňa (Goddess,) if I had been there, I would have stopped him immediately, I am so sorry I was not there with you. “ Pietro sat staring forward with a look of disappointment in himself. You leaned over towards him putting your head on his shoulder and he wrapped his arm around you pulling you into him. You snuggled your face into his chest drawing designs on his stomach and chest with your finger as he kissed your head and held you close.
“Tony is going to get the Legal department of Stark Industries to look into the paper and find out who the guy is and get him charged with harassment, and I may or may not have given him a good slap as soon as I got over my shock and realized what was happening, so I figure I should let the cops know everything in case he decided to try to press charges later for battery saying I attacked him. But I promise Pietro, there is absolutely nothing at all going on with that guy or any other guy in my life because I was sort of waiting for someone I had a sort of thing for to maybe make a move, but I didn’t think that he was interested, so I had basically given up hope and just accepted that we would only be friends, and that was okay, but I really was hoping he would let me know he felt the same.” You continued tracing symbols on Pietro's chest with her fingers nervously
Pietro put his hand gently under Y/Ns chin and raised her face so that his clear blue eyes were looking directly into Y/N/E/C, “Do I know this guy?” He asked finally deciding to go with the advice the rest of the team when they told him that Y/N was definitely into him, and Wanda assured him that yes, Y/N thought about him often and was only too nervous to make the first move, but if Pietro would, she would be receptive.
Y/N looks from Pietro's eyes to his lips and back to his eyes again and states “I am sure you have seen him around here, sometimes he’s hard to spot because he’s pretty fast, but when he stops or slows down and doesn’t try so hard to impress everyone he’s really an amazing guy. I have to say to, he is sexy as hell too, and he has this accent when he talks, uggghhh, it does things to me.” Y/N just smiles at him teasingly.
Pietro chuckles and smiling leans in but says softly before he kisses you, “Prednesiem vám básne a texty, ak ma chcete počuť hovoriť, poviem vám všetky veci, ktoré chcem s vami a s vami urobiť, ale nikdy vám nebudem môcť vyjadriť, ako veľmi vás milujem a uctievam. Teraz si môj, ako ja tvoj, navždy. (I will recite you poetry and lyrics if you want to hear me speak, I will tell you all the things I want to do to you and with you, but I will never be able to express to you, how much I love and worship you. You are mine now as I am your, forever.)” He then lays the softest and most soul-baring kiss on Y/N that she has ever felt. It was as if all the passions in the world could have been transferred to her through that kiss and as he softly caresses her face while peppering gentle kisses on her face, Y/N thinks that maybe this stupid picture is not the worst thing in the world to ever happen to her if it is what FINALLY brought her and Pietro together, she figures if nothing else, this will be a brilliant story to tell their kids someday.

Reply to @prurientpuddlejumper on this ask:
I’m sorry you’re frustrated or if I offended you somehow, but to be frank I don’t appreciate the tone you’re using here. However, to answer you anyway:
> they def meant the links to these alleged "online generators," because I am in the same boat as anon
First of all, unless you ARE that anon, I don’t think you can say they “def” meant anything, since they never came back to clarify, and I did try my best to answer them the first time, and I seemed to have helped since they didn’t come back to report any problems with my answer.
Second of all, “alleged”? That’s very rude. Just because you cannot see them on tumblr mobile, does not mean they do not exist. Plenty of other people have used them just fine, as evidenced by the many posts submitted to this blog. And as the last two people who’ve asked about mobile access before never came back with problems, I can only assume they simply went on the desktop site to use the generators instead of accusing me that it’s not accessible at all.
> post after post about how you updated the UI or whatnot with no link to the thing you updated
It was only two posts (so far anyway), and if you read them closely, you may have noticed I said I was only working on new updates, that they weren’t done, and that they aren’t out yet. And also that “the current generators are still up” so that people have a fully functional version of the generator to use, even if it’s not as pretty as the update is going to be. So no, there is no “link to the thing I updated”, because it’s not done yet. And as the point of the post was about the updates-to-come, I saw no need to promote a link to the generators that are currently available. Seeing as you want that though, I shall go correct those posts and link it, for your and future readers’ convenience.
I apologize for the misunderstanding, if I wasn’t clear enough about the updates being a work-in-progress. I was just trying to update my actual followers (of which I noticed that you are not one) that I was working on stuff, since this blog is usually pretty quiet.
> I REALLY wanna see it, and am growing increasingly frustrated about how much work you're pouring into this *thing* without giving mobile users any way to *access it*.
Again, I’m sorry this is frustrating to you, and you do bring up some legitimate feedback about the mobile accessibility. As I mentioned, I’ve answered at least two asks about this issue before, but since it’s been a few years and phones have definitely gotten more powerful I can look into developing a proper mobile version. But a lot of issues come up with making a mobile version, namely UI and responsive design (because I’d have to account for both vertical and horizontal orientation, and again I reiterate that UI design is hard), dynamic coding/image generation/data input/font importing and styling/etc., and how to save the actual generated image or at the very least the export/import save data for later use on a desktop browser. It takes a lot of work (more than most people realize, I imagine), so if you would like to help with that, let me know, otherwise you have no right to shame me for not making a mobile version, taking my time, or doing any of this.
As it is, you can actually still access the generator on mobile, just not tumblr mobile. You just have to go to a browser on your phone (there’s a reason my URL is so simple). However, as mentioned above, the template was not designed with mobile in mind, so all the fonts and effects and arrangement on the template itself just looks... not like it’s supposed to. Which, again, is part of the issue with the design, but at least you can access it on mobile, against your claims that you cannot.
Also, I mainly made this a desktop site because of how large the dimensions of the template are, in order to make sure the text is visible/legible even in the downsized preview image. Even when I view the template on my phone, I have to zoom in a lot, and with the current live version of the online generators, it would have made scrolling around to input data annoying. The PSDs, as well, would be inaccessible on mobile as far as I know (if Photoshop Mobile has improved enough to handle all the layers, masks, and effects, I’m unaware) so it was a conscious decision to make this whole thing desktop-only when I first started this blog several years ago.
> Even the "downloads" link you just shared just redirects back to this same page. Which is probably because you've hidden all the links away in "pages" which are completely invisible and inaccessible on the mobile app
It’s very much tumblr’s fault, and I really should have thought of that at first, but again, it was a conscious decision to make this a desktop site. Even if I made rebloggable/viewable posts with the links in them (which I plan to do soon, if only to satisfy mobile users like you), only the PSD download links would work (but again, not sure how well downloading PSDs work on mobile devices), as the tumblr app will still loop back to the blog, since the online generator is still one of those blog “pages”. And that is not changing for as long as I don’t have the time or money to host it on its own domain.
I can’t change the fact that tumblr mobile doesn’t automatically open blog pages in an external browser, so the only solution I can offer you is to take the extra step to copy the url and go into your mobile device’s actual internet browser, or just go to your browser and type in my URL manually.
If you actually couldn’t access the templates at all (which should not be an issue if you “REALLY wanna see it” given that not only did I offer you explanations and solutions for the tumblr app problem, but also that it IS accessible on desktop and you reasonably could have just gone on a computer) or had any other problem with them, I have made no stranger of myself and have always been open to help people. They have been polite or nice when they do talk to me, and I’ve always tried to be cordial in return. Your feedback is legitimate, and I appreciate it, but you really could have worded your implied suggestion a little better. And to be quite honest, I was offended by the rudeness of your reply, especially when you called my hard work a “*thing*”. Those asterisks imply a very negative tone, in case you weren’t aware.
I get the impression that you think that your demand will be fulfilled right away if you make enough fuss about it, but I’m not going to be manipulated or guilt-tripped because you feel bad. Maybe you don’t mean it that way, but you can “grow increasingly frustrated” all you want, because not only am I working on this for free, on my free time, and by myself, but I am also not doing this for you. You’re right that I am pouring a lot of work into this, as much work as any fan artist or fanfiction writer will put into their own works, and I’m very proud of it (both as it is now and what it will be in the future) and I have fun working on it, but this is not my job. And you’re not paying for a service.
I’m not working for anyone, and I have no reason to have made more than I originally did--originally I only made the student template PSDs for some friends, and the generator (which seems to be my most popular template, even though my original focus was on the PSDs) only came about because one of my friends didn’t have Photoshop. And I wasn’t even going to release either of them to the public, but I did, and the villain ones came over a year later because of this blog and the people who follow it. No one asked for a user interface update (in fact, more people have asked for a pro hero template), but I’m doing it anyway because I can and I want to. That’s all this boils down to. Also my free time (if you hadn’t noticed, everything on my blog runs on a queue, and when I do queue stuff it’s usually like 3am or so--including right now... it’s currently 5am actually) and motivation (I’m well aware of how few people actually use the templates compared to how many people follow and reblog the posts, and honestly it’s a little discouraging). So if I do make a mobile version, be aware that it won’t be coming out for a very long time. (Also, I think you’re the only one in several years who has complained about it, and you are literally 1 in... what, 3000+ people? Judging by the number of notes on the original post I made when I started the blog and my current number of followers. And again, you’re not even one of them. So to be honest, I’m really not motivated to work on this quickly.)
If you want it faster? Being nice when you show your interest helps, it’s how I got encouraged to make the villain templates. Though I never asked for much other than patience. Or at the very least, the respect any fandom content creator deserves--I may not be cranking out fanart daily or new chapters of a fanfiction weekly or anything, but I am still providing the fandom with something they can enjoy at no cost. And like reviews on fics or comments on art, many people have expressed that they’re grateful the templates and generators exist at all, unlike you, which is really the reason this blog continues to exist and the generators/templates to be updated with new and improved features. I could have just left my original template generator up there and abandoned it, but I know how it feels to find out a fanart you loved years ago was deleted or a really good fanfic was discontinued. So I’ll continue to work on it, and yes I’ll put mobile compatibility for the generators on my to-do list, but I’ll do it at my own pace.
Also I’m not making money off of this, but hey, if you wanna give me incentive that way, hop into my DMs or something and we’ll talk, but I’ve never asked for donations or anything and I don’t plan to. The generators and templates are free for use, and most of that is because of tumblr, which gave it a platform and a home. If I hosted it on its own domain, I’d need a means to pay for that, and I’m personally not invested enough to do that when tumblr is free and works well enough.
If you or anyone else wants to help change that, come talk to me, the ask box is always open.
Otherwise, please visit this blog page on a desktop browser or at the very least something that isn’t just the tumblr mobile app, because nothing can be done about mobile compatibility right now, and I’d hate for you to miss out on seeing the templates. Hopefully I can look forward to whatever you will create with it.

Fuck You Facebook
So, in case anyone’s seeing this without coming here from my Facebook: Facebook removed this post because it was flagged as spam. I’m preserving it here because this information should be shared and Facebook’s attempts to obscure the sharing of health information should be condemned, widely and publicly. Enjoy. This is a long post addressing two underlying issues with the current response to the pandemic that leave me concerned. It’s the longest post I’ve ever written. The Medium version of this post (link below) has been viewed 1.2M in less than the last 24 hours as of 3/17/20. For those of you not taking action, or believing the pandemic to be “over hyped”, you can make fun of me as much as you want now or when this is over. You can make me the subject of memes and post it everywhere. I will pose for the picture. I am not trying to convince you, but I do feel compelled to share information that I deem critical to all of us, which is why I am posting this at all. WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE 5 MINUTES TO READ AND CONSIDER THE INFORMATION I AM SHARING: As of 3/15/20 at 9 am PST this post has been shared over 50k times since it was posted 2 days ago. So a lot of people find value in the post and although it's a long read, I believe you will find this information valuable too. For those of you who don’t know me well, I am analytical and metered. I don’t freak out nor do I respond emotionally. I also don’t post a bunch of bullshit or political or controversial stuff on Facebook. I founded and am CEO of a successful software company that provides SaaS based data, analytics, and dashboards to recruiting departments at companies we all know. As you would expect, I am data driven and fact based. Before founding my company I held executive roles leading very large recruiting teams at some of the world's fastest growing companies such as Starbucks and Google. At Google I was fortunate enough to report to Sheryl Sandberg before she took the Facebook COO role. I was a Chemical Engineering major in college and have a business degree from a top undergraduate business school. I am not one for hyperbole or histrionics. My bullshit factor is close to zero. I share all this personal information only to help solidify that this post may be worth reading and sharing with others. I would encourage you to forward or share this post at your discretion. Many people do not understand what is happening with the pandemic to the degree required which is why I took the time to write this and share this on Facebook. Now that I've gotten the introduction out of the way, here are two issues I want to bring to everyone’s attention. ISSUE ONE: SOCIAL NORMS ARE POWERFUL MOTIVATORS AND GETTING IN THE WAY OF PEOPLE TAKING THE RIGHT STEPS IN RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC: One of the current problems with addressing the pandemic is the social pressures of taking action today. It's awkward, and feels like an over-reaction. The reason it feels like an overreaction is that most people OVERWEIGHT the currently reported cases and inherently UNDERWEIGHT the mathematics of how the virus is spreading and what will happen in about 30 days time. This is because our brains tend to think linearly as opposed to logarithmically. It’s the same reason many people don’t save for retirement or understand compound interest. To create a new social norm, human beings like to see behavior modeled. This serves as a signal that says, “oh, someone else is doing it so I should do it also.” SO HERE IS A SOCIAL BENCHMARK FOR REFERENCE - THIS IS WHAT I’VE DONE FOR MY FAMILY TO DATE: I have already isolated my family. We have canceled EVERYTHING. We have canceled previously scheduled doctor visits. Social get togethers. No play dates. Normal routine meetings. Everything has been canceled. It's difficult and socially awkward. Some of you think I’m crazy, but I’m doing it not because I am afraid, but because I am good at math (more on that in part 2). I had to have my 16 year old daughter quit her job coaching junior gymnasts at the local gym, with one day’s notice and also tell my kids they can't attend youth group at church. Both of those were tough discussions. I told a very close friend he shouldn’t stay at my house this weekend even though he was planning to and had booked his flight from the Bay Area. I canceled another dear friend’s visit for later this month to go snowboarding on Mt Bachelor. We are not eating out. Our kids are already doing online school so we don’t have to make changes there. I would not send my kids to school even if they were in public or private school. We have eliminated all non-essential contact with other people. We will only venture out to grocery shop when required. We will still go outside to parks, go mountain biking, hiking, and recreate to keep ourselves sane and do other things as a family, just not with other people. We have stocked up on food and have a supply for ~2 months. We have stocked up on other goods that if depleted would create hardship, like medicines and feminine hygiene products. We have planned for shortages of essential items. THE REASON I HAVE CHOSEN THIS ROUTE FOR MY FAMILY IS MULTI FACETED: 1. Although my family is considered low risk (I’m 49 in good health, Angi is 46 and in good health, and our kids are 14 and 16), we must assume that the healthcare system cannot help us, because the hospitals will become overwhelmed very quickly. Most American hospitals will become overwhelmed in approximately 30 days unless something changes. More on this in part 2 below. So although we are in great health and unlikely to become gravely ill, the risk is greater if you do not have access to the medical care that you need. This is something for everyone to consider. As a society we are accustomed to having access to the best medical care available. Our medical system will be overwhelmed unless we practice social distancing at scale. That said, the medical teams in Italy are seeing an alarming number of cases from people in their 40s and 50s. Triage tents are already going up in the parking lots at many hospitals close to the epicenters in the United States. 2. It’s not a matter of if social distancing will take place, it’s a matter of when. This is because social distancing is the only way to stop the virus today. As I will explain in part 2 below, starting now is FAR more effective than starting even 2 days from now or tomorrow. This has been proven by Italy and China (and soon to be France and other European countries who have been slow to respond.) [updated as of 3/14 France is now on lockdown mandated by the government]. Wuhan went on lockdown after roughly 400 cases were identified (and they had access to testing that America has systematically failed to do well to date). The US already has more than 4 times this number of known infected cases as Wuhan did when it was shut down, and our citizens are far more mobile and therefore spreading the virus more broadly when compared to Wuhan. Yet our response is tepid at best. If hand washing and “being smart” were sufficient Italy would not be in crisis. So I pray the draconian measures are coming from our government, because they are required to stop the spread of the virus. It’s better to start sooner than later as the cost is actually far greater if we wait. I pray they close all schools and non-essential services the way that Italy and China have done. 3. Spreading the virus puts those in the high-risk category at much greater risk. This is the moral argument. It’s a strong argument because there are only two ways, as of today, that the virus can be stopped: let it run its course and infect 100s of millions of people, or social distancing. There is no other way today. If you don’t practice social distancing, people downstream from you that you transmit the virus to will die, and many will suffer. 4. The risk of infection is increasing exponentially, because the quantity of infected people, most who will not show symptoms, is doubling every three days. So the longer you wait to self-isolate, the greater the chance of you or someone you love becoming infected and then you infecting others because more of the population is becoming infected. There are twice as many infected people today as there was on Tuesday. 5. The virus is already in your town. It’s everywhere. Cases are typically only discovered when someone gets sick enough to seek medical attention. This is important as it typically takes ~5 days to START showing ANY symptoms. Here’s the math: For every known case there are approximately 50 unknown cases. This is because if I become sick, I infect several people today, and they infect a few people each tomorrow (as do I), and the total count of infected people doubles every 3 days until I get so sick I get hospitalized or get tested and become a “known case”. But in the time it takes me to figure out I am sick 50 others downline from me now have the virus. So every third day the infection rate doubles until I get so sick that I realize I have the virus an am hospitalized or otherwise tested. Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital estimate that there are 50x more infections than known infections as reported (citation below). The implication of this is that the virus is already “everywhere” and spreading regardless if your city has zero, few or many reported cases. So instead of the 1573 reported known cases today there are likely 78,650 cases, at least, in the United States. Which will double to 157,300 by this Sunday. And this will double to 314,600 cases by this coming Wednesday. So in less than 1 week the number of total infected in the United States will quadruple. This is the nature of exponential math. It’s actually unfortunate that we are publishing the figures for known cases as it diverts attention away from more important numbers (like the range of estimated actual cases). [Update as of 3/15/20 - I've been sent more research that may add clarity to the ACTUAL cases vs CONFIRMED cases and will update this post with any conclusions] 6. Some people cannot, or will not, practice social distancing for a variety of reasons and will continue to spread the virus to many people. So everyone else must start today. The reasons above are why I have begun to practice social distancing. It’s not easy. But you should do it too. The hospitals will be at capacity and there are not enough ventilators. You will hear a lot about this issue in the coming few weeks... the shortage of ventilators. ISSUE TWO: MANY PEOPLE ARE FOCUSED ON THE WRONG NUMBERS: Yes, the virus only kills a small percentage of those afflicted. Yes, the flu kills 10s of thousands of people annually. Yes, 80% of people will experience lightweight symptoms with COVID19. Yes the mortality rate of COVID19 is relatively low (1-2%). All of this true, but is immaterial. They are the wrong numbers to focus on... The nature of exponential math is that the infection rates start slowly, and then goes off like a bomb and overwhelms the hospitals. You will understand this math clearly in the next section if you do the short math exercise. Evergreen hospital in Seattle is already in triage. I have heard credible reports from people on the ground that they are already becoming overwhelmed. And the bomb won't really go off for a few more days. Probably by Wednesday, March 18th (next week). In just a few days from now we will hear grave reports from Seattle hospitals. [update as of 3/15/20 - see the comments section below for an update from a staff member at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, WA] You should assume the virus is everywhere at this point, even if you have no confirmed cases in your area. YOU SHOULD DO THIS SIMPLE 2 MINUTE MATH EXERCISE (NO REALLY TAKE TWO MINUTES AND DO IT): To further understand exponential growth, take the number of confirmed cases in your area and multiply by 10 (or 50 if you believe Harvard and Massachusetts General estimations) to account for the cases that are not yet confirmed. If you have no confirmed cases choose a small number. I’d suggest 10 cases in your city, if no cases are yet reported. But you can use whatever number you like. This number of infected people doubles every ~3 days as the infection spreads. So literally take your number, and multiply by 2. Then do it again. Then do it again. Then do it again. Do this multiplication exercise 10 times in total. 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x (the number of estimated infections in your city today (not just the reported cases)). This result is the estimate for the actual cases in your area 30 days from now. The math will take 30 seconds to complete with a calculator and it’s worth doing the math to see how it grows. This end number is the number of cases in your city 30 days from today if a large percentage of the population do not practice social distancing. 2 to the 10th power is 1024. When something doubles 10 times, it's the same as multiplying by 1024. The infection rate of the virus doubles every 3 days. In thirty days there will be 1,024 times the number of infected people in your area as there is today if your community does not immediately put social distancing into practice. One thousand and twenty four times as many infected people as there is today, in just 30 days. Next, divide the final number (the scary big one) you just calculated by the current population of your city and you will be able to get the percentage of people THAT YOU KNOW PERSONALLY who will be infected 30 days from now. Next take 15% (multiply by 0.15) of that final 30 day number of total infected people (the number you calculated by multiplying by 2 ten times). This will provide an estimate of the serious cases which will require hospitalization, and compare it to the number of beds and ventilators available at your local hospital. Google the "number of beds" and the name of your local hospital now. It takes 2 seconds and the number of beds is easy to find. 65% of beds are already occupied by patients unrelated to the coronavirus. St Charles in Bend, Oregon where I live, has 226 beds and the town is roughly 100,000 people. Most hospitals have on average, 40 or fewer ventilators. 5% of patients require ICU treatment. There are very few ICU beds compared to regular beds in hospitals. There are very few negative pressure areas in any hospital to deal with the containment of airborne diseases. These numbers you just calculated are the Big Problem: Too many patients, not enough beds, and a serious shortage of ventilators (the biggest problem) if we don't immediately begin social distancing. More on this biggest problem related to the insufficient quantity of ventilators is below. COUNTRIES THAT GET OVERWHELMED WILL HAVE A MUCH GREATER MORTALITY RATE BECAUSE THEY WON’T BE ABLE TO ADEQUATELY CARE FOR THE SICK. And by sick I mean not just coronavirus patients. Your son or daughter that needs acute care surgery this May for his badly broken leg will be attended to by an orthopedic doctor that has been working at maximum capacity and working 18 hour shifts for 7 days every week for 6 weeks because it was required to care for all the coronavirus patients at her hospital. Or the orthopedic surgeon will be sick with the virus and your son or daughter will be operated on in a tent in the hospital parking lot by a non-expert or a member of the National Guard. Your elderly Mom that has diabetes and goes into acute distress next month may not receive ANY medical care because the doctors are consumed and have to prioritize patients based on triage guidelines based on success rate probabilities. Your sibling’s family that are all injured in a terrible car crash in June will have diminished care. If one of them needs a ventilator there will be none available because all of them will be in use by critical coronavirus patients. Your young friend with cancer and a compromised immune system from treatment will succumb even though the cancer was curable and the treatment was working, because their body was too fragile to combat the coronavirus due to the chemotherapy and they couldn't receive the customized, acute care required due to the hospital being overwhelmed. All of the above is currently happening in Italy, who had the same number of infections we have today just 2 weeks ago. You must start social distancing today. The count of actual virus infections doubles every ~3 days. The news and government agencies are lagging in their response. So we hear that the US only has 1573 cases today (3/12/20) [update as of 3/15/20: 3115 confirmed cases), ( see https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/) and it doesn't seem like a lot. It would be better to report the estimated actual cases, since reported cases don’t tell us much. However, we know from China that the actual number of cases are at least an order of magnitude greater than the reported cases, because people get infected and do not display symptoms. In math, an "order of magnitude" means ten times difference, or put another way, a factor of 10. 100 is 10 times greater than 10, so it's an order of magnitude greater. Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts General Hospital just released their estimate (recording is here: https://externalmediasite.partners.org/Mediasite/Play/53a4003de5ab4b4da5902f078744435a1d) that the actual cases are 50x greater than the reported cases. So we likely have 75,000 cases in the United States already. The number of reported cases is not that important. But let’s assume the current number of cases is only 10,000 ACTUAL cases in the United States just to be conservative and model out what will happen: If we don’t stop the virus from spreading, in 30 days we will have 2 to the 10th power more cases of infected people because the infection count doubles every 3 days (the virus doubles every 3 days and there are 10, 3 day periods in 30 days). The math: 2 to the 10th power means 1,024 times as many cases as we have today (2 times 2 repeated 10 times). This number is a catastrophically big problem for all of us: We will have 10 million+ actual cases (10,000 actual cases today x 1,024) in the United States in just 30 days’ time if we continue without extreme social distancing. 10 million people with the virus. And it will keep doubling every 3 days unless we practice social distancing. 15% of cases require significant medical attention, which means that 1.5 million people will require significant medical attention if 10 million people get infected (15% of 10 Million total infections = 1.5 million people requiring hospitalization). 1.5 million hospitalizations is way more than we have beds for at hospitals in the United States. And 65% of all beds are already occupied in our hospitals. But many patients (5%) with the virus need ICU beds, not just any old hospital bed. Only about 10% of hospital beds are considered intensive care beds. So we will have a huge bed shortage, but that is not the biggest problem, as we can erect temporary ICU shelters and bring in more temporary beds, as Italy has already done, and California and Washington hospitals have already done. Evergreen Hospital in Seattle has already erected temporary triage tents in the parking lot as of 3/13/20. All regular beds are full at Evergreen Hospital as of yesterday. Once the government of China, Norway, and Italy came to understand this math, they reacted accordingly and shut EVERYTHING down. [update as of 3/15/20 now France has done the same lockdown]. Extreme social distancing is the only response available to stop the virus today. The United States is not responding well nor are other countries like the UK. Countries that do not respond well will pay a much larger, catastrophic price. But hospital beds are not the big problem. The lack of ventilators is the big problem. Most estimates peg the ventilators in the United States at roughly 100,000 to 150,000 units. See the study from last month: http://www.centerforhealthsecurity.org/resources/COVID-19/200214-VentilatorAvailability-factsheet.pdf The primary and most serious comorbid (comorbid is a medical term that means co-existing or happening at the same time) condition brought on by the Coronavirus is something called bilateral interstitial pneumonia which requires ventilators for treatment of seriously ill patients. So if 1.5M people of the 10 million infected 30 days from now require hospital care (15% of the 10M estimated total infections), 1.3M may not get the care that they need because we don’t have enough ventilators, beds, and ICU beds in the United States. And remember, this is only if ALL OF US EFFECTIVELY start social distancing by April 11th (30 days from today). This increases the mortality rate significantly. BUT IF WE START EXTREME SOCIAL DISTANCING BY MARCH 23 (12 days from original writing), WE AVOID OVER 1.4 MILLION PEOPLE GETTING CRITICALLY ILL AND OVERWHELMING THE HOSPITALS: If everyone takes extreme measures to social distance, and the United States can dramatically reduce the spread of the virus 12 days from now, the math is very different, as the exponential growth will only be 2 to the 4th power (12 days divided by the doubling rate of every 3 days equals the exponent of 4): 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 16 So instead of 10 Million cases in the United States if we wait 30 days, if we act 18 days sooner, we will have only 160,000 cases (16 times the estimated 10,000 actual cases as of today), of which 15% are likely to require hospitalization. This is 24,000 critical patients (a huge difference compared to 1.5 million acute patients). The difference between taking extreme measures now, versus waiting even a few days, is very large due to how exponents work in math. THE OUTCOME IS EVEN BETTER IF WE TAKE ACTION IN THE NEXT 6 DAYS: If the vast majority of the population self isolates and implements social distancing in only 6 days from now the exponential math is 2 to the 2nd power (6 days divided by the 3 days it takes the virus to double means the exponent is only 2). In math this is "two squared". 2 x 2 = 4 Multiplied by the estimated 10,000 ACTUAL cases as of today (3/12/20) that means only 40,000 total cases will develop, 15% of which may be critical which is 6,000 critical patients. This is why you should share this post broadly. If people begin social distancing in the next 6 days it will greatly reduce the impact on all of us. It's why they say a "post goes viral". SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL REDUCE THE FINANCIAL IMPACT TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY: Finally, the longer everyone waits to practice significant social distancing the greater the economic hardship will be on all of us. Lost jobs. Mortgage defaults. Closed businesses. Bankruptcies. All will be minimized if you start social distancing today. Some of the reasons the economic impacts will be reduced are worth mentioning: If we stop the virus now the overall duration of the outbreak will be far shorter. The stock market will normalize more quickly and recover more quickly. Businesses and people will be able to survive a shorter duration outbreak vs a longer duration outbreak. More companies will avoid bankruptcy if we begin to practice social distancing now. This is a big financial reason to begin social distancing if you are employed by any company: if companies see that the virus is being slowed, they will be less likely to conduct layoffs. You will be more likely to be laid off or experience a job-related event if we don’t practice social distancing immediately. As an HR executive, I’ve been involved in many, many layoffs. It’s the last thing companies want to do. But if they see that the pandemic will be shorter lived vs long and drawn out, they are less likely to make the permanent decision of laying off staff. The overall economic impact that hits your bank account will be greater if you wait or you don’t practice social distancing. This is why Norway acted now, because it’s less economic impact to take drastic measures early than to do them later, and it saves a lot of lives and suffering by doing so. And Norway has only one confirmed death as of this writing. Many people have suggested they want to support local restaurants and other businesses, who have seen sales drop by 50-90%. Stopping by and visiting them won't save them. What will save them is social distancing and what you do after the pandemic is over. If you are concerned, call them and buy a gift certificate over the phone. START TODAY. I CAN’T STRESS THIS ENOUGH. YOU MUST START TODAY. Finally, the article that I posted yesterday written by Tomas Pueyo has been read 30M times in the last few days and has been updated with new information. It’s worth reading again. Here’s that link. https://medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavirus-act-today-or-people-will-die-f4d3d9cd99ca Other up to date data I frequently consult regarding the pandemic is here: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ I hope this is helpful and useful. My brain focuses on the math and I try and be fact based in my analysis and interpretation of how I should respond. THERE IS MORE INFORMATION IN THE COMMENTS BELOW WORTH READING AND I WILL BE UPDATING THIS POST, AND THE COMMENTS, WITH MORE INFORMATION, (AS OPPOSED TO CREATING NEW POSTS). MY FINAL PARTING THOUGHT: Please share or forward this post at your discretion. If everyone shares this post and two of your friends share this post and so on, we use the power of exponential math to work in our favor, which seems appropriate given the virus is using that same exponential math against us. HOW YOU CAN REALLY HELP: If you know people who have large numbers of followers, or people in the media, please leverage your personal relationship with them and ask them to amplify this post by sharing it or the Medium Post (link below) For people not on Facebook you can email or text the link. It would be useful to get the post on Twitter and LinkedIn by sharing the Medium post. If you know people in government this fact-based post may help inform them to make the best decisions. It's time for us humans to go on the offensive against the virus. We must fight back. There is only one way to do so: Social Distancing. Do it today. NOTE: Anyone, including the media, is free to use this post, any related content, in all or in part, for any purpose, in any format, with no attribution required. Please direct message me if you have other ideas for how to raise awareness. Finally, I can no longer keep up with friend requests given how much this post has been shared. To receive updates or follow me, please use the "Follow" button on Facebook. 3/16/20: I am preparing a second post, now that 4 days have gone by since the first post. To receive it please follow me on FB. I can not keep up with the friend requests. https://medium.com/@Jason_Scott_Warner/the-sober-math-everyone-must-understand-about-the-pandemic-2b0145881993 https://www.facebook.com/jason.scott.warner/posts/10163742243430144

How to Get More Exposure For Your Music
It takes months, and mostly years, of hard work and patience to finally hit the general public. The venues to get one's creations noticed are many and few simultaneously. The artist transmits the group on miscellaneous missions (never regarding money on the part of the group) and the best road teamers are rewarded in various ways. As an artist entails many things. Take a couple of days off, take it easy, and come back refreshed! It brings them exposure and makes followers a complete section of the artist's success. At some point, if you are like me, and work alone 14-15 hours a day, you will get burned out.). Another good idea would be to design your personal exclusive merchandise (Tshirts, bags, mouse pads, mugs, greeting cards, etc. And to be honest, the royalties are extremely decent. A street team is a group of individuals who are committed to help an artist spread the term about their function. And as a result, I received more exposure in two months than I had were able to achieve in more than three years! SELLING ONLINE AND OFFLINE 95% of poets go the self-publishing way. BUILDING A STREET TEAM You can only achieve this much on your own. This is very simple to do, especially if you aren't computer-savvy, in fact it is free. Finally, frustration and discouragement are part of the job. If you are a amateur photographer, why not sell your images to other performers for their book/CD covers? UPDATING YOUR STATUS Part of your promotional period should be used to revise your position across the various networks you participate in. Always acknowledge your followers and supporters, those that work in the shadows for you personally. Reverbnation lets you do that very easily! Make a number of all your skills and find what you have to give you. When you sign up for their site, you receive access to an individual studio. From there, you can upload your own videos or video clips from YouTube and stream them on a 24/7 basis. NETWORKING Public networking sites are crucial for promotion these days. All you need is a Paypal accounts. Reverbnation offers you the perfect way to do it: once your mission is launched, the site helps to keep counts for you and all you have to do is check your stats! Finished . I love about this concept is that it allows an artist to attach with their fan base on a different level. Make use of TweetDeck or Hootsuite. You will find loads of broadcasts every day and the neat thing is that you may also interact in boards. You should be capable to rely on others. Do points YOURSELF! What's more, people may also help spread the word by sharing the widgets almost everywhere on the Internet! If you are not camera-shy, you can also web host your own show, using your webcam. Also, usually do not hesitate to ask for tips and advice from those who have a verified successful background in your market. Sometimes, one little thing will make an enormous difference. Before throwing links at someone, introduce yourself correctly and get to know them just a little. I personally use Reverbnation & Audiolife. You can also promote yourself. This is something that I do once a month with Livestream (and most people love it! They will print your books, CDs, calendars, picture books, and photos for you. Print-on-demand or POD is a great service and I recommend Lulu. And royalties are truly decent. The best thing about diversification is that it makes it harder for people to label you in one category. The best part is they are totally free! Hence, you have the golden possibility to "meet up with" hosts and listeners who frequently happen to be hosts or promoters of the artwork themselves. Start by thinking about the following questions: "What's my long-term goal as an artist? If you are a musician or a spoken word artist, you likely have heard of Reverbnation. I make use of it myself and I really like the reality that I can send pre-formatted news letters to my group of fans, build a street team and start missions with the click of a key, and promote my CD and tracks through easy-to-share widgets. It signifies that you have to diversify. WEBSITE/PROFILE PAGES Nowadays, if you need to attract more supporters, you should build a niche site or at least have a regularly updated profile page.. They provide you with a free of charge store that you could promote everywhere you wish.) and sell it using providers like Zazzle or Cafepress. It is possible to talk about anything, address questions and worries from your fans, educate them on issues that matter for you, and invite them to take part in discussions. It is also important that you be ready to support other artists and causes, and serve as a positive role model. While this is simply not a poor thought at all, additionally it is important to know that product sales obey the 10-90 rule: 10% creative imagination and 90% promotion/marketing. The best blog services are Wordpress and Blogger." Be extremely honest in your answers, because they will determine your job and how lengthy you may last in the business. I have joined with some of the most incredible artists and supporters in North America and also have followed their advice very cautiously. A blog is an extremely nice tool to use. They imagine that they can count on the quality of their work for it to sell itself. , nor wait for others to do it for you. They want to learn about you and what you care for. You must become professional in your strategy, dedicated, and alert to your surroundings and global issues. Both sites have partnered to permit Reverbnation members to sell their merchandise and music for free. I have already been a guest on numerous shows, which includes allowed me to promote my books and CD, and tell the globe why I am a poet and spoken term artist. I heard that CD Baby is very good. I used this medium and got to know great people.. You may be surprised by how much help and support you will receive in return! Open a merchant account, upload your data files, fill in the necessary info, and you are on the way. I recommend Blog Chat Radio. To me self-publishing is even more rewarding than complicated because I have to promote all my items myself, and it gives me the chance to really become familiar with my readers and listeners. BLOG/COMMUNITY If you need to build your web presence, it is crucial that your fans and followers be involved. All you need is a PayPal account. What is my mission statement? Continue to keep a laptop and pen useful, and write any suggestion and idea provided you.-) For a website, use Wix or Weebly. And if you are actually fluent in two or more languages, you could also translate documents. Then, feel free to embed the display screen anywhere you want. However, street teamers obtain free stuff, which is always nice! You can also join writing communities and forums like Red Space and share some of your stuff there. They are excellent! LAST WORDS Always remember this: treat others how you would like to end up being treated. This is the first step to get respect from fellow performers, and hence exposure. DIVERSIFICATION I've a motto: the more you have to give, the more exposure you'll get! You will attract more followers. Use your Paypal accounts address to get royalties when people purchase your products during your personal (free) store. What do I would like to perform with my creation(s)? You should be able to do it in one convenient place. Setup your store (in two moments), upload your files, complete the information, and start selling your CDs, MP3 albums, person tracks, Tshirst and tote hand bags within minutes! However, it could be very time-consuming. I acquired introduced to numerous new listeners. The visitors to my site provides been large since I started listening to BTR shows!; If you're a poet/writer, you can offer poetry/speech-on-demand or proofreading services. You can also use Internet radio. If you only focus on music or spoken term, there are some nice options out there. Make sure that you have a look at Facebook, Twitter, Ning, YouTube, and MySpace. You can also sell your music digitally, using major retailers like ITunes or Amazon. Ning is especially impressive, since it offers a great deal of options! & most importantly: build interactions before thinking about sales! IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS Lots of independent artists believe that once their CD or book is available, the work is performed. You may eliminate up attracting a lot of different people!

List of 10 Free keyword Research Tools
Millions of blog posts are published online every single day.
And only 10 of them are ranked on the first page of google search engine page.
These rankings are based on good site design and SEO content on the website.
The keywords on the top-ranking website content (if you notice) are based on the keywords set to search for information.
Relevant to those typed keywords by the audience, Google pulls up websites which provide quality and informative content with proper usage of SEO keywords.
That is the beauty of good content. You cannot just write an article by using some random terms and expect it to rank on top of the google search engine or land people on your site.
So, how do you write good content with the right keywords?
To start with, you can list out the keywords related to the topic you are going to write and then, properly insert keywords wherever necessary.
Small advice - Just don’t fill your content with keywords for the sake of ranking higher.
Google is smarter than you think and will find out how much relevant and informative your content actually has.
I guess – I am going a little fast for everyone.
Alright! Let’s start with the basic - Where and how can you find relevant keywords?
Keywords that help you connect with people who are your target audience. The biggest challenge for anyone in the digital SEO world is to identify the right keywords for SEO.
Here is a piece of simple advice for you-you can find the right keyword by using something referred to as keyword research tools.
There are many free keyword research tools and paid ones (I am sure you do not want to know about them 😊 ) .
I have been using some of free keyword research tools for keyword research and have been able to identify some decent keywords based on my research.
Here is the list of 10 free keyword research tools to help you with keyword research:
Google Keyword Planner
Google offers a range of free stuff and Google Keyword Planner is one of them.
Though Google Keyword Planner is a part of the Google AdWords Campaign and it can be used for free to search for keywords.
It displays monthly search volumes and even finds out how many visitors your competitors get.
Google Keyword Planner can be used to generate a list of keywords ideas and identify trends and search volumes of a particular county or a region.
You can compare the site of your competitor’s and yours to know the difference of visitors visiting the page and improve content strategy.
The backdrop of Google Keyword Planner is you must have Google AdWords Account to use it and the other is it doesn’t show an exact number of visitors in the search volume, just the estimated results.
It also displays keywords list between 1000 to 2000 which is low compared to other free tools.
But Google Keyword Planner is been used by millions due its simple and navigational design. Using the data, you can easily identify where your stats have been dropping and where you get higher views
2. Bing Webmaster Tools
Google is the most popular search engine in the world but Bing ranks second when it comes to the popularity of the search engine.
Bing Webmaster Tools is absolutely free and gives more in-depth data than Google’s. There are features even Google cannot provide which Bing does.
Bing Keyword Search tool in Bing Webmaster Tools help you to generate data on keywords.
It helps you find only organic keyword data. In one page, it shows clicks and impressions, click through rate and positions in Bing.
The keyword search tool can be used by applying specific filters
For example,
If you write “Dresses” in the search tab, you will get results of a total number of the queries where dresses word has been used.
If you select Strict option, you can exclude the words you don’t want while searching for keywords.
It will give you a list of keywords and phrases from everywhere except the keyword you filtered out.
It is a simple to use tool with great features for the site altogether.
3. Answer the Public
With its user-friendly and informative design, Answer the public is one keyword research tool everyone should use.
It helps you to find out the number of people looking for information on the questions you type, phrases you input and even head terms.
It finds out what questions are people asking on the web and helps to create content based on the data provided by Answer the public.
They offer visualizations to give content ideas and keyword search volumes which are extremely easy to understand and create.
Answer the public can be said as consumer insight tool as you get to know what people are doing at night on the net, what questions they are asking and you get data on your target audience. This helps to make better content and also can be used for creating a content strategy.
4.SEMrush
SEMrush is highly recommended by business owners and digital marketers.
They have a free and paid version, both and offers exceptional features to form the content strategy and keyword listing ideas.
Though free users can only ask 10 queries per day, it holds important because per query displays the overview of volume organic search and CPC of paid search.
It shows phrase matched keywords and related keywords on one page. This helps you to find out keywords the people are searching related to the keyword term you typed to search.
For e.g., if you type the phrase “cheap mobile phones”, the Related Keywords might show “affordable mobile phones” and Phrase matched Keywords might show “Cheap mobiles store” and etc.
It is simple and effective to find enough information on keywords.
5.Ubersuggest
Ubersuggest is a keyword research tool introduced by Neil Patel. It is very useful tool as it provides you with keywords that are not even available in Google Keyword Planner.
Ubersuggest gives you list of keywords offered by Google Suggest. This keyword tool is quite user-friendly.
Once you type in the keywords, you get a list of keyword ideas indeed but it also helps you to download copy of the list so that you don’t forget what you previously found.
You’ll get a list of keywords for a particular term in the form of one word- two words, or you can say “head terms” and long tail keywords.
One other feature this research tool offers is that you get to know the paid difficulty and SEO difficulty in the overview page.
Paid difficulty tells you how much expensive is a particular keyword and SEO difficulty tells you the competition it faces in organic search for the keyword. The higher the number of the Keyword, the more the difficulty to rank higher in terms of SEO.
This keyword research tool like any other tool shows volumes, seasonal trends and finds keywords for you according to the country region.
It is quite a useful free tool as it gives everything you need to find keyword ideas and even helps with downloading a copy.
6. Google Trends
This another amazing tool is offered by Google as the name suggests.
Google Trends helps you to stay ahead of the competition. You just have to know how to use it.
The best feature about Google Trends is that it only shows data of the popular term used by people.
While Google Keyword search shows the search volumes, Google trends show a graphical representation of popularity trend.
The graphical representation is one of the keys of Google Trends. When you put in a particular keyword according to the regions, you can compare them both and analyze the rise in popularity or downfall of the popularity of the same keyword according to the country.
Isn’t that great?
When it comes to selling your product, you might get to know when and which country can sell your product the most and when it won’t.
7.Keywords Everywhere
This is one of the most interesting and informative tools to use to know the competition of the keywords.
Keywords Everywhere is a Google Chrome Extension that shows search volume, CPC and competition data to all your searches.
Think of it like that, how many searches you do per day in your google browser per day? Maybe in tens or hundreds.
It shows the data for every keyword search you do.
One of the cool things about this keyword tool extension is that it not only displays data on the google search engine, but also YouTube, Amazon, Bing, and many places.
This keyword research tool will keep you on toes about the competition in keywords all the time.
8. Soovle
Soovle is a keyword research tool which kind of you end playing with words.
Soovle doesn’t do well with the design. Indeed, it is easy to understand the site. But what soovle offers as a tool are extremely less time-consuming.
Soovle helps to find keywords ideas from 7 major providers of the world at one place. Those are Bing, YouTube, Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Answers.com, and Wikipedia.
It helps to get ideas and search volume from different providers at one place. This can help you create content according to the search volume around different providers.
One of the key things about Soovle is that you can click on the link of the keywords list of any provider that appears on the screen.
It also has Saved Suggestion’ feature which helps you to save phrases or keywords you want later.
You can also check out the top used search suggestions offered by the providers. It shows in alphabetical order with providers icons by the side. The icons show up to help you understand which provider the keyword was most searched.
This is a cool and fun to play with the tool. Once you start using it, it gives you great content ideas plus tells you where the competition lies and fun to just type in keywords.
You may end up for hours using it.
9.Keyword Shitter
This tool doesn’t give you search volumes, CPC or anything.
But it really “dumps” a lot of keywords.
It just offers you an insane amount of keywords list. That’s it. The list just keeps increasing until you press the stop button.
The list of keywords can get big if you don’t stop. Seriously.
You can download the list within seconds.
It has one feature though. The positive filter and negative filter.
For e.g., if you enter “online” in the positive box and “dresses” in the keyword box. You will get results like this:
dresses online
dresses online India
dresses buy online
dresses cheap online
And if you enter “online” in the negative box” and “dresses” in the keyword box. Here are the suggestions you will get:
dresses for girls
dresses for women
dresses from sarees
dresses for Diwali
You must have understood the difference.
In the positive filter, it will show queries inclusive on that word and in negative it will not show you query exclusive of that word.
Well, if you just want the keywords and planning to prepare a list of topics, this tool will help you for sure.
10.Wordtracker
Wordtracker has a free version as well as paid version.
The paid version indeed offers excellent features but free version can do quite a work if you ask me.
It gives you suggestions according to the country. On the page, you will get a list of suggestions around the word you input and list of keyword ideas as well.
If you type in “dresses”, you will get suggestions like apparel, cloth, groom, garnish etc. And it will list only 50 keywords, given the free version.
You can see the metrics such as CPC if you select PPC tab and IAAT (total count of web pages where keywords are included both in the title and also in the text) if you select SEO tab.
It also has including keyword feature and excluding keyword feature like Keyword Shitter.
I hope this list helps you to find a good keyword research tool according to your needs.
These tools will definitely help you to create content ideas or content strategy and may even help you to spy on your competitors and stay ahead of the game.

I fic’d for my DuckTales ocs. I, personally, blame @musekicker and @raidenraccoon , but it's mostly myself and the godforsaken heat. So I wrote some exploratory stuff. I'm not really all that pleased with the bit for Felicity, so I'm gonna reread it later and tack on here, but here's the one for Penelope I like under a read more. Granted, I have no clue how to write Scrooge and it McFreakin’ shows
His former secretary had retired, citing being too old to handle any and all shenanigans that happened in the Money Bin or in connection to McDuck Enterprises, LLCs, and etc. So unfortunately, Scrooge had been forced to hire a new secretary, Fortunately, there were always plenty in Duckburg, and businesses new and old were always hiring, so finding one that was available at a reasonable hourly wage was easy enough.
The new one was a young hen with brown feathers and a sharp, short bob that made her face look severe and older. Scrooge was glad she was young, and with a business degree to boot - it meant that she could work there as indefinitely like his former one, and at the same price but she wouldn’t need that much training. She was efficient, quick, and followed orders similarly, if not a bit aloof and cold at times, but at least she smiled at the triplets and Webby when they came to visit.
Granted her eyes were a little unsettling. Sharp like her haircut and constantly calculating, never resting for more than a minute unless she had to. It made him think of Gyro to the point he asked if they were related - he would have to insure the Money Bank twice as much if he had two Gearloose’s under his employ. But no, she only knew of him through her employer. It was like anyone in Duckburg with some brand of aspiration to reach ever higher and higher.
But she was quick and efficient and took a low pay, remembered how he liked his tea and smiled at his nephews and niece. And strangely enough, she never acted on the look in her eyes. She took to antics from unleashed magickal items and Gyro easily, tiptoeing over incidents and spills without taking her eyes off of her schedule and paperwork. Gyro liked her because she was prompt, Fenton liked her because she would sometimes listen to him infodump when she had a moment to delay, the Board liked her because she was cheap, and the kids liked her because she snuck them treats with a smile and a raised finger that said “our secret.” Scrooge liked her for those reasons as well and after a while some worries dispelled.
Until, that is, one day when his schedule was empty between 2pm and 3.
The secretary walked into his office at 2:05, tea, schedule and paperwork in hand, bob sharp, shirt and skirt pressed, and heels polished and pointed with sharp clicks on polished marble floors. Perfectly timed to when he would have wanted tea and updated paperwork and schedule for the rest of the day.
“Ah, Penelope, right on time,” Scrooge said, barely looking up from his paperwork consolidating his properties up north, glancing to the side with the familiar click of china on his desk. “Thank you, Penelope.”
Usually she left after that unless there was something that required his attention. But she stood in front of his desk, calculating and hungry eyes staring at him. Scrooge paused, hand stilled in the middle of his signature. He shifted to look behind her.
“Is there someone here to see me?” he asked. She shook her head.
“No, Mr. McDuck. Your schedule is free until 3,” Penelope said, tapping the appointment on the schedule with a finger.
“Then...well? What is it?”
“I wish to speak with you, sir. May I sit?”
He stared at her and nodded. The secretary sat on the edge of one of the stools in front of his desk, ankles crossed and paperwork carefully and almost purposefully arranged on her lap.
“If this is about a raise, as stated in your contract, you can’t ask for one until you’ve worked here for ten years,” Scrooge warned, ready to pull out his copy of it, along with magnifying glass, as it was in the fine print, but she shook her head.
“No,” Penelope said. “I’ve come to make you an offer.”
“Oh blazes, not this again.” Scrooge groaned, slapping a hand over his eyes. “Listen, you are very lovely, and a very fine secretary, but I really don’t need-”
“Oh god, no I am not offering that. I have morals, Mr. McDuck,” she interrupted. “Well they’re loose in some regards but not like...that. I’m offering something different that will actually interest you.”
He raised an eyebrow. “You have one minute to either impress me or go back to your desk and we both pretend none of this happened.”
She smiled thinly with a matter of fact kind of look. “You see Mr. McDuck, companies like yours are always looking for secretaries. There are plenty, you know, some with dreams of climbing a corporate ladder to the top, or into a lap of some wealthy mogul.”
Penelope pulled a small file from the paperstack on her lap.
“I’m not interested in doing either. I’m just a very, very good secretary.”
The folder slid onto his desk, and she flipped open, revealing the Glomgold logo.
“Compiled here is all Glomgold attacks on your life and all attempts to out-do, copy and what have you,” she continued.”In chronological order, for convenience.”
Scrooge flipped through them absentmindedly, remembering all quite clearly until the he reached the last three forms. He didn’t recognize the events listed at all - following him on a lumber mill survey, splashy charity gala, an uncomfortable red wedding scenario in potentia -, so unless he had been drugged, knocked out, or he repressed the memories, she was wrong.
“I think you mixed up some files, Ms. Glider,” Scrooge deadpanned, pushing the stack nearly over the edge. “I don’t think these have happened at all.”
Penelope caught them with a slap, which made him tense for a moment, and pushed them back.
“Not yet.”
Scrooge raised an eyebrow, and her mouth raised into a light, rare smile.
“May I suggest, sir, looking at the dates of those three?”
He flipped back open to the last forms. They were dated from three months from then up to two years. Scrooge squinted and reread them. He repeated the lines again, this time with an added frown. Before he could even ask, she continued.
“Secretaries compile schedules, take notes, organize files and paperwork. Contact contractors. Set up appointments and meetings. Take care of their employer’s agenda,” she said. “But they go wildly unnoticed, don’t they, Mr. McDuck? As such, no one really notices or questions them, making it very easy to compile data. And when you’re good with computers to boot - well, it just makes you a very good secretary.”
He blinked. “That’s how you got these three?”
Penelope nodded. “Glomgold is a monologuer, but he is also strangely very meticulous with his agenda involving beating you. He has plenty more if you’re interested.”
“And if I was, why should I believe you don’t work for him?”
“Oh, I do. He needs a night secretary after 5pm. How do you think I got most of my data on him?”
“Then how should I believe that you aren’t spying on me for him?” Scrooge stood, voice starting to raise, and half-ready to end this nonsense and fire her. After confiscating any and all information on him, of course.
“I don’t use the word spy. I prefer…,” she paused for a moment. “Corporate espionage. And I only do it for myself. I like the challenge. And McDuck Enterprises? The most challenging company I’ve ever come across. That’s why I’m offering to spy for you. On Glomgold. Beaks. Rockerduck. Whoever. They are always hiring.”
“So you jump from secretary position to secretary position, for the challenge?” he said with a raised brow.
“Usually.” Penelope shrugged. “But you know? I like working here. There’s the challenge, of course, but I’m not treated like an idiot here either. No one has ever called me sweetheart.”
“So exactly why,” Scrooge asked, sitting back down and steepling his fingers. “Would keeping you be beneficial, other than being a competent secretary?”
“By keeping me as a secretary and corporate espionage associate-”
“Just say spy.”
“Fine. And spy,” she deadpanned, “you’ll not only have a better competitive edge on some of your rivals but you’ll have something they never had or will have.”
“And what could that be, Penelope?”
“My loyalty to you and the company, and keeping other corporate espionage associates- ahem, spies, out of your business.”
“Before I answer, how much do you have on me?” Scrooge asked, wary.
“A dossier twice the size of this one compiled from both public and private records. I make one of all my employers. Like I said, I’m very good at my work.”
“Why does this keep happening,” Scrooge muttered under his breath, pinching the bridge of his beak. First his spy housekeeper, now his spy secretary. He looked up at her again. “Your contract stays the same, Penelope.”
She smiled another rare smile and nodded, slipping back to her normal seriousness and slipping the Glomgold dossier off his desk, replacing it with another. “Thank you, Mr. McDuck. Here is the information on your three o’clock appointment along with your notes from the previous meeting. Do you require anything else?”
He shook his head. Penelope nodded and stood, heading back to the door. Before she exited and faced him again with a finger to her beak. Their secret. Scrooge shook his head once the door clicked, and finished his half-scrawled signature. Maybe he would have to get more insurance after all.
But he had to wonder: why tell him any of this at all?

Like other single guys his age, Mack Knight, 40, a software company executive in Los Angeles, has a crew of buddies who like to explore the city, travel and workout together.
They take their exercise seriously: Each wear a fitness tracker called Whoop that monitors their body’s vital signs (including heart rate, breathing and sleep), and makes that data shareable through an app.
The other week Mr. Knight was reviewing his Whoop statistics when he noticed that one of his buddies, a friend from business school, was missing his daily workouts. “That was very unlike him,” he said. “He works out religiously.” So the next time they hung out, he asked whether his buddy was O.K.
The ability to share intimate stats among friends has turned this fitness app into a de facto virtual men’s support group. People are using it to keep tabs on each other’s physical and mental health, and to lend a helping hand if a buddy appears to be in trouble. (Turns out, Mr. Knight’s friend was fine — just engrossed in a cryptocurrency project.)
Whoop was created in 2012 as a high-end monitoring device for professional athletes. Worn on the wrist or arm, it collects health data that can be shared with coaches and personal trainers to improve workouts.
“I was a college athlete,” said Will Ahmed, the app’s founder. “I thought it would be valuable to create something where we could see each other’s data as a team and see how we were evolving.”
The data is highly personal, even intrusive. It shows if your heart rate spikes randomly or if you only burn 300 calories one day instead of 1,000.
Whoop users can choose to keep their information private, but since the device became available to the public a few years ago (users pay $30 a month, which includes the band), unanticipated uses have emerged among friend groups. The app is for anyone but it has found a use case that serves men in more way than one.
“Whoop has found a sneaky way to help men feel comfortable sharing stuff with each other without hitting them over the head and saying you have to share your feelings all the time,” said Dr. Jelena Kecmanovic, a clinical psychologist in the Washington D.C. area who often writes about how technology impacts lives.
The fact that data is shared “prompts men to ask, ‘You didn’t sleep last night, what is going on?’” Dr. Kecmanovic said. “It’s a clever way to get people to check in, support each other, praise each other, and feel like they are part of a group.”
Peer pressure is a side effect. “We can all see each other’s numbers, so I want mine to be good,” said Joe Wernig, 30, a senior product manager for NBC Sports, who lives in the East Village. He joined Whoop in January after a friend convinced him. He is now part of four groups, each with two to six people. “There is a friendly competition,” he said.
During Memorial Day weekend, for example, Mr. Wernig was partying with friends at an Airbnb rental in Cape May, N.J., when he checked the app just before midnight. He saw that all his friends had exercised more than him that day, so even though he was inebriated and it was raining, he went for a short run along the beach.
“You can see how often your friends run or lift weights,” he said. “I can learn lessons from them that I apply to my own life.”
Friends are also using the app to spy on one another. “My friends make fun of me all the time,” said Anthony Martinez, 30, a finance director at Vice Media who lives in the West Village. “If I am dancing and my heart rate spikes someone will say, what were you doing last night at 2 a.m.?”
The app’s off-label use as a social support group became more pronounced during the darker stretches of the pandemic.
“A lot of people don’t want to talk about the things that are challenging us,” said Lee Chadowitz, 31, a product manager in Hong Kong, who is on a team with his trainer and eight friends. “I can see if my buddy is only sleeping three hours a night, and then I probably have a duty to check in. I don’t even have to say anything direct. I might just do a little nudge of, ‘Hey, want to get a beer?’”
According to Whoop, the app has about 85,000 teams (or groups of friends who have created a sharing network on the app). “The majority of our teams are in the 10-person range,” said Mr. Ahmed, who would not disclose the total number of users.
Blake Reichenbach, who run Self-Himprovement, a wellness website for men, said that Whoop appeals to men who feel more comfortable gathering around stereotypically masculine activities.
“There are a lot of groups popping up to get men to support other men, but the big problem they are having is that men are not conditioned to meet with other men and talk about their feelings,” Mr. Reichenbach said. He points to groups like Mr. Perfect, which started in Australia in 2016 and brings men together under the pretense of having a barbecue.
“Men have fewer opportunities to form communities where they check in with each other and praise each other and support each other,” Dr. Kecmanovic added. “We see a lot with male clients, especially after they leave high school and college, that struggle with isolation. The pandemic has only made that worse.”

1. Find MAC address from the device information
The quickest way to find MAC address on Android is to look for it in the About device section.
Here’s how to access it:
Go to “Settings” and tap on “About device”.
Here tap on “Status” and you’ll find the MAC address under the “WiFi MAC address”
You can tap and hold on the MAC address to copy it and paste it anywhere you like.
2. Find MAC address from the WiFi settings
Alternatively, you can also find MAC address from WiFi advanced settings. Follow the below instructions:
Access “Settings” and tap on “Connections” (or WiFi and networks) option.
Now tap on “Advanced” button at the top-right corner.
In the Advanced settings, you’ll find the MAC address at the bottom.
3. Use a dialer code to find MAC Address
If you are one of those geeky users who like using codes, then you’ll surely like this option. Like many other secret Android codes, there is also a dial pad code to find MAC address on Android. Here’s is what you need to do:
Open up the dial pad (the app you use for calling) and enter the code *#*#232338#*#*. A tiny window will open up to show your mac address.
Note: This trick may not work on some Android phones. For example, it doesn’t work on my Samsung device.
4. Use a MAC address finder app
If you frequently need to look for the MAC address of your Android phone, then using a dedicated app might be a better option. There are many apps for this purpose, but I recommend What’s my MAC address for its simplicity.
Just install and launch the app and it will show the device MAC address on the top. Additionally, it also shows SSID and BSSID (WiFi MAC address), which could also be useful in many situations. If you need to copy any of the information, just tap and hold on it.
Ending thoughts
These are all the methods I know to find MAC address on Android devices. I particularly like the first method on this list as it’s easier to access and you also have the option to copy the MAC address. If you know any other ways to find MAC address on Android, let us know in the comments below.

THE INCREASED COST OF FOOD NOT WHAT YOU THINK
Most people think the incense in eh cost of food is because the supermarkets are ripping off the public. To a degree, yes. Not that much however in comparison to some other businesses/reasons..
Some find a way to benefit from a crisis such as the pandemic.
In this instance, food producers. Those who manufacture the canned goods, meats, and anything else sold in a supermarket.
Notice how certain food stuffs are absent for weeks on the shelves. The items always return. However at an increased price.
The producers have learned to play the gouging game. They intentionally hold on to goods they produce so as to manipulate prices. The game again is to keep a product off the shelve for several weeks and then have it return at a higher price.
Then there is the cost of shipping/delivery of goods.
Shipping prices have gone out of sight! Which of course increases the final cost to the consumer.
Tucking rates have soared despite a demand below prior years.
Diesel #2 prices are up. Twenty percent from November 2020 through February 15, 2021. A big jump in a short period of time.
Crude oil is up 64 percent during the same time period. Wild!
Shippers, such as retailers and manufacturers shipping goods to the customer, have experienced a 20 percent hike from January 2020 through January 2021. The steepest increase since 2011!
Only a few examples contributing to increased transportation costs have been provided. The statistics/data involving the increases in various types of shipping were too much for me to understand. Wow! The only thing clear was that there is an increase in every area. Reasons generally different. My opinion is do not blame everything on the supermarket. They are responsible to some degree. The examples set forth herein are responsible to an even greater degree.
Texas. A disaster!
Hopefully Texas has learned a lesson. The lesson also is a warning to other states not to go the “independent” way Texas did.
There are two national grids. The East and the West. Then there is Texas standing alone. Texas knew how to provide power more efficiently and cheaper.
They bull shitted themselves.
If you are going to run your own business, it must be run properly to avoid something as has occurred in Texas.
Once set up, Texas failed to do the necessary to keep structures up to date and failed to pay attention to anticipated wild weather developments.
“Once in a hundred years” has become common in everything involving weather.
However, if you have a neoliberal austerity State which has spent 40 years deregulating and privatizing public infrastructures, and downsizing public service into incapability, you end up with a gigantic bad situation. A problem where people cannot depend on the State for water, food, and power during emergencies.
There are adverse weather events to prepare for. Texas did not prepare.
Set aside State damages for which Texas is responsible, most of which probably are not insured. Another way to save a buck.
Home owners and businesses normally are insure. I m confident many Texans are insured for the damages wrought by the snow and ice. Note however that insurance companies are a business. They claim they are available to protect their insureds. No! Most are corporations and worried more about their bottom lines.
So insurance policies are written with various exceptions. Happenings where coverage is excluded. Take for example water driven by wind. The insurance companies will play with that one big time. How about an act of God? Can one argue the cause of snow and ice other than an act of God. Insurance companies try and do.
There are numerous other examples. The poor homeowner and businessman is going to have a hard time getting paid actual damages incurred or getting paid at all.
And what of the time factor involved between the time the claim is made and the insurance company pays. Could be a year or two or more.
Billions of dollars are involved.
The news keeps saying Biden definitely is not in favor of an increase in the minimum wage to $15 in this stimulus package. I sense it is something he will consider at another time. Biden cannot be expected to do everything at one time.
Biden is in favor of a $15 minimum wage for federal employees. Evidence he is aware of the problem and is working on it.
Joseph Anthony Pizzo died recently. He was 88.
I first met Joe when I came to Key West some 30 years ago. He and his wife Beth wee already here. We became friends.
Joe was a happy person. Always a big smile when he saw you. Beth likewise very personable.
Joe was into things that grew from the ground. A botanist/horticulturalist. He taught life science classes for 30 years at Chicago City College. In addition, he and Beth opened Floral Consultants, a business they were able to expand to multiple Chicago locations.
Rest in peace, Joe!
Key West has had many citizen who have been responsible for what Key West has become. Good, bad, or indifferent, Key West would not be what it is today without their genius and hard work.
One of those persons is David Wolkowsky. David died a few years ago.
On this day in 1967, David began construction of the Pier House Motel. On that Motel site, today’s Pier House sits. Developer over the years by David.
David was my friend. I unfortunately met him in his later years. I enjoyed his company. He was respectful to all. Everyone loved him.
Enjoy your day!

DAY 26…..Greece the First Time
Posted on June 22, 2012 by Key West Lou
Not easy to communicate via internet from the middle of the Aegean Sea. Equipment here all old. Connections not dependable. Things keep getting lost. I spend more time looking for lost material than writing.
None of the above is intended as a complaint. I expect no more nor no less from an island so remote as the one I am presently on. Amorgos. It is almost nowhere. Access is by boat only. The boat comes and goes. The boat arrives two times a week.
I share the preceding with you for a particular reason.
Recent blogs have contained many errors. Paragraphs repeated, misspelled words, capitalizations missing, etc. I cannot help it. I reach a point where I have spent 4 hours doing the blog, 2.5 of which were spent finding the blog when it has disappeared.
I reach a point where I say I must publish before I lose the blog in its entirety for good. So I publish. I must admit when I am at that point, I am also very tired and say screw it.
Forgive me. The substance is good, even though the form may be lacking on occasion.
Which brings me to my present abode. A small white cottage with blue trim. Trim includes windows, shutters and doors. Sitting about 12 feet from the ocean. Yesterday I described the area between me and the water as a road. I was mistaken. It is a stone foot path.
Amorgos is one of the far out of the Greek islands. Off the beaten path. Few visitors. Not on the tourist routes. No big fancy hotels. Nothing but you, a couple of neighbors, and God.
If 2,000 people live on this island, I would be shocked.
My little house sits at the end of the path previously described. After that, nothing but water.
Sunsets terrific. Like Key West. Across the water from me. Over the peak of a mountain. Glorious!
I bought a bottle of Beefeaters yesterday. Enjoyed a couple of drinks from my terrace watching the sunset.
I was shocked I could buy Beefeaters. It has been almost non existent at my previous stops. Not only was it available on Amorgos, it was also cheap. About half the cost compared to the U.S. I suspect it is the taxes. If the Greeks taxed alcohol as much as it is in the U.S., it would dramatically help their financial condition.
Cigarettes. I took 4 packs with me. I have been gone 2 days shy of four weeks. Just finished the fourth pack yesterday. I am not doing bad in smoking little. I know. I should not be at all.
I bought a pack yesterday. $4.10! No way in the U.S.A. Another example of where Greece might help alleviate its financial problem. Increase substantially the cigarette tax.
There is a Chora on Amorgos. You will recall there was one in Mykonos. Chora is also referred to as Hora. It means old place. The old places on most islands are federally protected in Greece. Much like our historical buildings.
The Chora here is a large number of buildings constructed during the middle ages. Most at least 1,000 years old. Typically Grecian. One to 3 stories. Small terraces. White. Blue trimming. Narrow walkway, 3-4 feet wide.
Whereas Mykonos’ Chora was full of people, stores, bars and restaurants, the one on Amorgos appeared deserted. I saw no more than a dozen visitors.
Every 200-300 feet there is a restaurant or coffee house. Few or no customers.
Stairs. To the sky! Just what I love! Steps everywhere. Up, up and more up! Each one a stress test for me.
Chora was six miles away. On the top of a hill. The cab ride was straight up. The return trip straight down. How these cars do it, I will never understand. I consider it physically impossible for a car to keep its wheels on the road under such conditions.
Somewhere along the way yesterday, I found out what the windmills were for. There are many here as on Mykonos.
Olives were and still are big. The windmills were used to crush the olives. Where there were vine yards, the grapes were likewise crushed by the windmills.
Last night the wind returned. Cold. Very cold. I had to wear a sweat shirt.
I had a late dinner. At Demetrius’. After dinner there the night before, I could eat nowhere else. I was not disappointed.
Eggplant is big here. I had a warm appetizer of eggplant, tomatoes and onions. All cut up and cooked together. To die for!
My entre surpassed everything! My friends in Utica will especially enjoy that which I am about to share. I had lamb chops. Thin. The bone intact, not cut from the chop’s body. Fatty and juicy.
Just like Pelletieri Joe’s.
I got up with the sun this morning. Walked down the road a bit to buy coffee, a loaf of hot bread and butter. Then back to the cottage and my terrace. I watched the sun and water move a bit. Nothing else.
A bit later I was playing around with my tablet. A very lovely young lady walked by. Ann. Swiss. 18. Blond hair. Trim body. White blouse. Short jeans.
We talked. She was back packing it. Was looking for a cheap place to stay. Elini’s was too expensive for her. She moved on to continue her quest.
By the way, I think Elini’s is dirt cheap. Everything on this island costs next to nothing. For example, my dinner last night cost 11 euros. About $14 American money. Tip built in. Tip is 16 per cent of a bill.
I had another visitor while sitting outside.
I heard clinging bells. Saw nothing. Got up and looked over the terrace wall. There were three ducks walking along. Each had a bell around its neck. Looked like a family. Two big ones, one little one. Obviously house pets out for a stroll.
I have no idea at this point what today will bring. Maybe a trip to the monastery. Maybe nothing.
Enjoy your day!

Interview: Seth Graham
The music published by Orange Milk, an underground behemoth of experimental music and cassette culture co-founded by Seth Graham and Keith Rankin (a.k.a. Giant Claw), feels like multiple authors contributing their stories to one sprawling space opera. The label has been lauded by a wide spectrum of listeners and critics, and is instantly recognized through a delightful, kaleidoscopic approach to color, sound, and aesthetic identity. Themes and approaches in the collective Orange Milk output seem impossible to define coherently. There are oozing, primordial cultures of bacterial sound, moments of pure, demented bliss; Seth Graham’s own music, especially on his latest album Gasp, refines these abstract elements while rocketing them farther into space. It is intrepid music that deliberately hovers on the edge of order, a space that the composer challenges himself to explore. We caught up with Seth Graham over the phone to talk about Herbie Hancock, the various MIDI instruments he chose to explore on Gasp, and the experiences in his life that brought the album to bear. The album is available to pre-order here (LP) and here (CD), but you can also listen to the full release below before its March 23 release. --- Gasp contains a wide variety of sounds, but it’s very focused too. Some of them appear multiple times, like the woodwind, the voices. Did you have a clear idea of what instruments you wanted to appear, and when? I definitely had a very specific idea… like that composer Gerard Grisey, he has pieces where he records the cello super close to the mic. You can almost hear the rustling, and it’s high-res. It almost sounds like, I don’t wanna say explosion, but it’s a bigger, weirder experience. With classical, when they record it, you hear that typical Tchaikovsky crap; it almost sounds generic. Grisey changed it and put it in your face, and I love that so much. So what I did with the record is any of the instruments that had a really close mic sample [in the VST], I kind of only used those because I liked how they sounded, and I liked how much you could manipulate it. Like for example in the track “Kimochi,” which just means emotion in Japanese, that track starts off with this voice that says one syllable, and that goes into almost sheer metal grinding, and that’s actually just a shit-ton of manipulation of different acoustic instruments with a certain synth. I love to do that and contrast it with that close-mic’d sound. With the flute, you can hear the wind of the person playing. I was obsessed with that. It ended up being a lot of flute, clarinet, cello, and that was kind of it. I think I used some trombone — there’s certain things you can do with the VST where you can hear the whole sample play out, and you can hear the clicking, and I would use that too, people clicking the wind instruments. I was thinking I should just hire people and record it my fucking self. That was something I wanted to ask you about — whether you had plans — or already did — record live instruments and manipulate that? I actually sort of did that already. A record is supposed to come out; it’s pieces from Gasp and a couple of unreleased pieces that this ensemble in Russia asked me to write for a tribute to Philip Glass that they were doing. They asked me and Sean McCann and Sarah Davachi, and I was really honest, like, I’ve never written a classical piece before, I just write MIDI data and mess with it. I just kind of read up on how to write for an ensemble, looked up the instruments they use, re-wrote it all in MIDI. I basically converted that to notation and sent four pieces to them that are pieces from Gasp, but real people. And they did it! They played it at the Museum of Multimedia and Arts in Moscow, and then they played it in a studio, and they were supposed to send us the stems for us to mix and Sean to put out on his label, Recital… and I don’t know, I’m waiting for it. It should be here. But to answer your question, I’ve been trying to think of ways for a new record where I hire people and I write out pieces, and they play it-slash-sing it, because I want really weird things to happen that I can’t make software do. I go to school with someone who’s a trained opera singer, and I want to pay her to sing what I have all notated, her to sing in this key, but then go “Bleahghghg.” I would love to hear that happen, a magnificent operatic voice just shit the bed. That would be awesome. I’ve been trying to think of ways for a new record where I hire people and I write out pieces, and they play it-slash-sing it, because I want really weird things to happen that I can’t make software do. I go to school with someone who’s a trained opera singer, and I want to pay her to sing what I have all notated, her to sing in this key, but then go “Bleahghghg.” Your use of “real instruments” stands apart from other kind of abstract electronic music, like PC Music, where they’re deliberately trying to sound as synthetic as they can. I’m really influenced by a lot of the modern computer music, like Halcyon Veil, or Jesse Osborne-Lanthier, or Rabit, or Chino Amobi… I like all that stuff, but I have a weird aversion to reverb. I feel like reverb makes things cloudy, and in the listening experience, it kind of masks nothing. It could be an art in itself, but I really tried to stay away from it but still be influenced by their aesthetic. That’s interesting you mention that, because Gasp contains lots of open, bare spaces, which really struck me when I heard it. Yeah, and I interpret that as straight-up vulnerability. Just let myself be vulnerable. Vulnerability is such a strength that I admire in people, people who can just admit things and let it be. There’s not even close to enough of that in our world. Even myself I don’t let myself be vulnerable enough, but I think it’s such a beautiful thing, and if the music is kind of awkward and there’s that space, I think it conveys vulnerability. It conveys a sense of drama, too. It does, doesn’t it? I am dramatic, I guess. Ha! Going back to that idea of fate you mentioned earlier, I’m curious as to what the events were that would construct that fate. Like what events took place in your life to form your influences? Well, I had a really crazy life. I grew up in Japan; my parents were missionaries. I went there when I was six, my mom got really sick — I don’t know why to this day, my parents are, uh, really weird. I was kind of shoved into a public school at six; my dad was studying Japanese at a language school. The language school was across the street from a tennis court. The city is Kadiza, in Nagano-ken — it’s kind of considered the Aspen of Japan — is very ritzy and beautiful. And one day I’m at the language school waiting for my dad, and I was just starting to learn Japanese. I was immersed in it because nobody spoke English, and I couldn’t understand anything. And literally, one day I understood everything everyone was saying. It was about seven months in and it was so surreal. I remember thinking “What is my life? This is not normal…” And I knew it, but I didn’t even know how to think of it as a six-, seven-year-old. I’m sitting there, and I’m watching all these people playing tennis, and there are cameras there, but I’m just watching with my face against the fence. Someone comes up to me and says, “That’s the emperor of Japan.” I always remembered that. There was a lot of shit that happened there. I started to be a teenager in Japan, and we moved back when I was 15… So you spent your formative years there? Yeah, my formative years were spent in Japan. I started skateboarding in Japan, became a really avid skateboarder, and we even were responsible for finding a really famous skate spot. We came back to the US when I was 15. I was really into Japanese punk-rock; I remember the day Kurt Cobain died — I was really into Nirvana. The real formative thing was when I came back to the US. My parents were really conservative… like I can’t overstate it enough. So I came back from Japan, skateboarding, and punk rock, to rural Ohio, where everyone played football. My parents didn’t want me to go to school because they thought I would become a corrupt atheist, so I didn’t. I was homeschooled and worked at a movie theater from 15 to 18, and I would pretend to do my homework and finish by 11, and then go work the matinee shift with this old woman named Phyllis. The reason I tell you all this is that the shock of cultural difference put my brain into a spin. Everything became very existential to me at a very young age. I was like, “Nothing means anything.” I realized in 6th grade that the Japanese didn’t like America — I went to Hiroshima on a field trip and they were all like, fuck America — but all my life I had heard about how great America was, so you start to see the dissonance at a young age. Which is true? So when I was really young I started to throw it all out the window, like all of it was a joke to me, but not as a rebellious teenager, it was a true existential crisis to me. I started to notice the deep contrast in everything, and I started to notice all the little things instead of the big things. That changed how I perceived everything, I think. And I think that’s what helps me be creative, if I am even creative. That was the most colossal thing, that upbringing and those events. Goop by Seth Graham You and [ex-TMT contributor] Keith Rankin knew each other in Ohio when you both started Orange Milk around 2010. Could you explain the environment you were in and your ideas of what the label was going to be like? People want like a glorious answer when they ask that, but there isn’t one. It was honestly Keith and I were making music ourselves, and we both kept getting rejected by labels… Probably for good reasons. We were like, “Aw, fuck that, let’s start our own label to release our own stuff.” It was kind of a hybrid between there being certain artists who were only on tape who we thought should come out on LP. One of them was an album called Crowded Out Memory by this band called Caboladies. This band Talkies. That was kind of the Robert Beatty crew, like Eric Lampan and Christopher Bush; they had this band that were kind of spastic, fun electronica. We loved it, and that album in particular came on a really limited CD-R, and we were like, “That should be on LP!” It was like when all that rage with Emeralds was happening in our little pocket scene. And not that it was a competition, but we thought Caboladies was far more interesting, and we wanted to bolster it for that reason. We were just like… I don’t want to hear synth drone. We would send each other clips by a really wide variety of artists. We were imaging things we wanted to hear together, in some weird way. Like the Herbie Hancock Raindance record. All kinds of little clips, like, “This album, but only these parts.” We did have a very conscious conversation to decide where we wanted to go, and then we just started digging it up. We just started searching for things that we liked on SoundCloud. Would you consider that your contribution to music or to your pocket of the music world? Is establishing that family your driving force? I think Keith and I really wanted to be in the music world, and we kind of constantly got rejected a lot. We wanted to find our own. And we were, I wouldn’t say critical, but we were really into this idea of experimental music being really joyous and really accessible. Like folk music or something. And we really consciously saw it that way. We would sit down and listen to Herbie Hancock — I think I’ve mentioned him a few times, but we’re obsessed — and we would listen to his records and say, “This part is pure joy, but it sounds insane.” We want to make that, and we want to hear that, and have a label go full-tilt on making that. It’s one of my favorite things about Hancock. His music is chill and inviting and so weird at times. I just love that. It feels like you can let go — it can be contemplative, it can be deep, it can be all that Tiny Mix Tapes stuff, or it can just be pure fun! I think we both find it really refreshing. And we like releasing our own stuff because it just gives us control and makes it less bureaucratic or political. It’s less about hustling. I don’t have to worry about being judged. That freedom is nice as an artist. You’ve mentioned joy a few times as an important theme in your music… I feel joy a lot, so I was just trying to convey that as much as I could. What about the process of making music? Does that bring joy? Your music sounds very playful, so I’m wondering to what degree your process involves discovery or “play,” in the kind of childlike way of working things out? Ha! Making the music is torture. I feel like Keith and I have high standards with each other. If I make a track and send it to him, he’s going to kind of rip it apart. It’s kind of like a professor reviewing your work. We both treat it as a helpful device, we’re not trying to shit on each other, we both really love each other so there’s that trust. It’s a rare thing. But in that sense, my record felt like a master’s thesis. It was so much work, and so much time, and agony. But I still love doing it. To answer your question, I was trying to be super-direct — this is how I feel, a lot of the time. It’s kind of funny, joyous, kind of awkward at times. I wanted those elements to be in there, and I have this kind of aversion to authority. I associate it with pretension. I’m not saying it’s objective, but pretension and authority to me are the same thing. It’s about controlling you, or controlling how you will experience something. And if you let that go, you can make with it what you will, know what I mean? That might sound like pretentious nonsense, I don’t know. Was the record heavily composed our conceptually wrought before you began to work on it? It was a mixture of everything. After talking to people who are actually trained classically, I get the vibe that everybody has a similar method. Some things are conceptually thought out, like I want this sound or that sound, and then you build a structure to execute that sound. I would write MIDI parts that were like, a cello pizzicato, and I would write it until I really liked it, and then let it sit. And I would play with Serum [VST], and be like, I like this sound that sounds like metal is coming out of my eyeball, how can I fixate on this thing? It’s almost like assembling a painting — I like this shape, this color, and then you just edit it and fit it in. OK, now I’m going to add clarinet, like right here. You mess with that sequence forever. That’s what I did, but with Gasp, I tried to take it as far as I could. In that once I had a structure I really liked, I would hate the song. Even though I liked all the parts, I would then edit it down — like how fucked up could I make this? — until it feels barely cohesive. So did this process yield tons of material? How did you decide what would make the final cut? At one point when I was making it, I got so tired that I just wanted to put it up on Bandcamp and never think about it again. I basically revised like 70% of it, and that was like a year in. But I just knew it wasn’t done. So you just keep going with the record. There were moments when I was just completely improvising. I would take Push 2 [the Ableton Live controller/sequencer], just randomly play it, hit things, turn things. I don’t come up with much that way, but every once in a while when I get really frustrated, I’ll just improvise and see what happens. It usually yields like three hours of dicking around. But I always end up in what seems like a final crescendo, where I think back through so many times, you have to do, over and over, tedious. Sometimes you have to delete everything, and you go over it again and half of it is good. And once you’re 80% done, you can’t stand the other 20%, but you’re so sick and tired of it, it’s torture. That’s what it felt like. But I love it, and now I’m all ready to do another one. It’s kind of all I can think about. http://j.mp/2u69i63

A Fitness App Moonlights as a Men’s Support Group – The New York Times

Classic ASP with OO: full inheritance
Classic ASP with OO: full inheritance
Harry Marx
OK - I added the source here for you as well - and if you want to read my self-praise thereafter, you are warned.
http://www.nimbushost.co.za/sandbox/asp/aspp.asp?fname=example
PS. I found some major issues in the code and fixed it... working even better now :-)
PS2. This was done in 2015 - now 2018 - major upgrade available - soon will add a new link.
Note - this is not just about how nice classic ASP is, it is also about enhancements of it.
Topic 1: Classic ASP - is it still alive?
You may think I'm mad, but I will make a statement and support it with some interesting facts... "Classic ASP is among, if not THE, most advanced programming language there ever was. "
Now the reasons I say so...
Imagine you have a programming language that CANNOT do some stuff.
Take for example Classic ASP, one of the scripting language used in IIS for web pages (although not "supported" any more...)
There are stuff you cannot do with classic ASP, for example its class structures does not have inheritance and therefore not polymorphism. Imagine your pet language is JAVA, yes, it also has limitations - no multiple inheritance. And so does all languages have some shortcoming.
Now, my question to you is, can YOUR pet language be "extended" to do what they say it can't?
I will stick to Classic ASP for now.
My first problem was runtime includes. An include is like a "module", another source file, that IIS pulls into the main source file. You specify the name of the file where you want it to be included, and it is compiled into your source exactly where you want it. Nice.
But my problem was that I had many of these, and they are becoming co-dependent. A and B used C (each included C), and if you included A and B into main.asp, you generally get "name redefinition errors".
So can Classic ASPs do runtime includes, and thereby test is C is already included and then NOT include it a 2nd time? NO, it can't. Oops, sorry, it CAN!
For example, a very naïve implementation:
Dim fso, f, alreadydone
if instr(alreadydone, "myRuntimeInclude.INC") = 0 then
alreadydone = alreadydone & "myRuntimeInclude.INC"
Set fso = Server.CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
set f = fso.OpenTextFile("myRuntimeInclude.INC", 1)
source = f.ReadAll
f.close
set f = Nothing
set fso = Nothing
ExecuteGlobal source
end if
Now you could package this in a nice SUB, do error handling, etc., and put it inside its own include, and you have the beginnings of runtime includes. In particular, you can add a global variable to this include, into which you add the names of the files included, and NOT include them a 2nd time.
So with a few simple lines of code, ExecuteGlobal enabled Classic ASP to do something it could not.
For example, doing a runtime include like this, will of course not do the nested static includes. No problem - turn the INCLUDE function into a recursive one, and do the static includes also runtime!
Does this makes everything slower? With todays fast servers and cached hard drives etc? Yes, slightly, but just throw more hardware at it and we are OK again - ha ha ha. Yes it is slower, but if you want speed - you would not have gone for classic asp. C++ comes to mind.
And what about HTML and scripting intermixed, as classic asp developers usually does?
No problem - execute the script and print the html as you parse the tags in the include!
Now I will of course add some more notes here, and finally provide you with the source code, but if you are wondering what the final product does, here are a few features:
* dynamic includes
* inheritance - multiple inheritance in fact
* private / inherited methods / properties
* polymorphism
* try - finally - catch blocks
* optional parameters
* function overloading
Thinking about function overloading... Classic VB, being practically a non-typed language, actually is "typed" like any other language. The difference is that in languages like C, pascal, java, dotnet etc., you define the variable's type, and it is fixed. In Classic ASP, the type of a variable is NOT fixed, and it changes according to the type of data in it - much more dynamic than ANY other language I know of. All other languages resolve the overloading at compile time, which is quicker, but still static. Classic ASP, if it had overloading, would have had to do the binding to the correct version of the overloaded method, at runtime - totally dynamic.
Yes, the example source I added here does ALL of the above!
Inheritance
So lets tackle the difficult issues, firstly inheritance:
Imagine you want to inherit from Parent. The ideal would be that you can simply in the ChildClass say:
#inherits filename
where filename contains a class definition with the same name as the file. OR,
#inherits classname in filename
where the file may contain multiple classes. (Or #inherit classname, where the file is assumed to have the same name.)
In theory all the runtime include will have to do is to read the body of the parent class and insert it into the child class's body, right?
It should drop the "class classname" and "end class" declarations from the parent of course.
This was simple. To implement this was in fact just 26 lines of code...
What about private and public items in a class? Well the words "private" and "public" are already used in classic ASP, so why not extend it to OO directive?
#private initiates a section of not inherited properties and methods, and must be followed with
#public which switches inheritance on again.
To implement this is a breeze - all you do is cut the parts in the Parent source between #private and #public.
To implement this was in fact just 7 lines of code...
What about #abstract methods? A one liner! Replace the #abstract tag with ThrowCustomError "abstract method not defined".
So what happens if the parent has a method "Display" and the child attempts to override it? You will get two definitions of Display in the childe class, and it will not compile - Name redefinition error.
This is a good thing! Because now you know you are trying to override a parent 's method.
The way to allow this is to use #overrides or #extends This will flag the assembler to drop the Display method from the parent definition, or to keep it with an adapted name parent_Display(). Simple, but in order to make provision for properties, subs functions, etc., this took much more code to implement, exactly 45 lines.
This #overrides tag does introduce a slight deviation from the normal OO conventions. It means you cannot call the parent's Display method inside the Child method. All the overridden methods are not available. But there is an easy fix if this is actually required. Many time you would inside a child's method do some action, and then call the parent's method with the same name. This is very much standard practice.
The #extends tag causes the parent's class to be renamed before it is added into the child class. You can call the inherited method with parent_display(). Why did I do it like this? Read on.
So all in all, it took exactly 90 lines of code, in the runtime include class, to enable the gist of OO into classic ASP. I am thinking, this is why MS has dropped support for classic ASP - it is simply too powerful.... ;-)
To recap, we implemented:
#inherits
#private
#public
#overrides
#extends
#abstract
.... in about 90 lines of classic ASP code.
And there is a small bonus. If you carefully check the code, you will notice that if A inherits from B, and B from C, all the "parents" are assembled into the source if A. The runtime include does not differentiate between who is doing what inheritance. This means you can actually have a child class inherits from multiple parents!!! You can define a chile and say:
class Child_class
#inherits A
#inherits B
...
end class
VERY few languages can do this! And that is why the #extended classes are renamed for the parent class. You can now call A_display() or B_display(), inside the child.
And you also get the case where A inherits B, which inherits C, and you want to call C_display() in A!
..now that is something to digest.
polymorphism
This is one of the complexities of OO that very few people understand. I will explain it as simple as I can.
Imagine you have two different types of objects, a square, and a circle. They are derived from "Form". Now you can define an object of type Form, and treat it as a container, in which a Square or a Circle is instantiated. Now you can call the container's Dsiplay() method, and polyM allows the correct Display method to be invoked, relative to if the container contained a Square or Circle.
At compile time, the compiler does not know which, or even if the display method is implemented.
Yet at run time, it calls the correct method!
You can have a function that takes Form as parameter, and inside the function call the Form.display method. Depending if the argument provided was a circle or square, the correct method is called.
This is in other words runtime binding or linking.
Normally as the example went, you require a "parent" class, which is often an abstract class, to act as type (container) for the derived classes. And normally you can only do this type of runtime linking, if the parent class defines a method (can be abstract) with this name.
But, the way in which this OO implementation works - you don't need either...!? because classic ASP is un-typed.
I can define a function that accepts a parameter:
Sub doDisplay(Obj) Obj.Display End sub
This is perfectly "compilable" in classic ASP, even though the class is never defined for Obj. Of course trying to execute it with doDisplay 10 will throw an error, because 10 does not have a Display method.
However, I can call this sub with ANY object, regardless of parentage, as long as the object has a Display method. And it will call the correct method - polymorphism without the overhead of an abstract method, or even a container class!
Heresy!
try-catch blocks
Now this is a tougher one. We want something like:
Try
a = 1 a = a/0
a = 2 Finally a=0 Catch Response.write "ERROR: div/0<br>" End try
Note the order of the finally and catch blocks. I swapped these for reasons explained later...
The issues is that classic ASP only provides us with the "on error resume next" mechanism.
I played around with some ideas, and the best I came up for now is to do it with a limitation - you cannot do a do-loop inside the try-catch block.
This is because I use an EXIT DO to jump out of the try-block.
So a simple solution is to translate the code into something like:
on error resume next Do
a = 1: if err.number<>0 then exit Do a = 1/0: if err.number<>0 then exit Do
a = 2: if err.number<>0 then exit Do loop until True a=0 select case err.number
Case 0
case else Response.write "ERROR: div/0<br>" end select
Err.Clear
on error goto 0
To get this working was a bit more difficult, it took about 66 lines of code.
Still, its working...
Arrays
I played around with [] brackets being replaced by array(). This is not very useful, but still its working.
For examp:
function foo( p )
dim pp
for each pp in p
response.write pp & "<br>"
next
end function
This you can then call with foo[], foo[1] or foo[1,2,3].
Function overloading
I started implementing function overloading, using the variable name, and an assigned type, as in : dim xxx #as myInt, where myInt could be ANY symbol. This I will call Variable Type Overloading. I implemented it as a global setting, and the value inside the variable does NOT carry the type with. Wherever xxx is used in the page, in all the includes as well, it is assumed to be of type myInt. This type has absolutely no effect on execution of any normal classic asp code, and only comes into affect when you overloaded a function/sub/property using Variable Name overloading: function foo(X #as myInt) can only be called now with xxx as input argument.
This is all done at compile time.
Take note that the variable type is GLOBAL, to all code underneath a runtime include, and all static includes inside the runtime include. This works for function, subs and properties, but I have not debugged it well.
Rather then I realized that classic ASP is not a type-less language, it merely hides the type from the developer, and as a bonus, the type of the variable can indeed be changed.
a = "string" 'a's type is String
a = 1 'a's type is now Integer
This is HUGE - I know of no other language that allows variable's types to change runtime, well other than when using polymorphism. So I realized that there is a 2nd form of function overloading possible: Value Type Overloading. And this has me excited.
With value type overloading, binding to the correct version of the function/sub/property is based on the data type in the variable, runtime! This is of course not achieved without overhead, as all runtime binding (even polymorphism) requires overhead. Yet it is simple and quick.
One important constraint to notice is that you CANNOT intermix variable type overloading and value type overloading in the same function. Keep them apart. This is because the one happens in the pre-processor, and the value type overloading happens runtime.
Variable type overloading is based on the actual symbol used for the data argument, while value type overloading is on the actual type of data being passed.
Value based overloading is local to within a class, or global outside all classes in a runtime include, and all nested includes. You can have the same function name as a class method, and as a global function, but they will be overloaded separately. Within a class, if you have two versions with the same pattern, you will get name redefinition errors, as the function name is merged with the pattern, and the combination is not unique. Functions that are inherited, are also pushed into the value type overload handler stack. If a parent's and child's function name and pattern are the same, you will get name redefinition errors.
There are a few constraints ito overloading:
*All versions of the function/property/sub must be of the same definition - they must be subs, or functions, or properties - you cannot mix these. All must public/private. Only a GET and a LET property can have the same overloaded name, any other will cause compile errors.
*Another silly constraint is that the definition of the method's name and parameters
must be in the same line, no line continuation character.
*Valid types are all types as returned by TypeName(): Byte, Integer, Long, Single,
Double, Currency, Decimal, Date, String, Boolean, Empty, Null, Object, Unknown,
Nothing, Error or the class name of an object.
You can also overload the return value of a getter or function. The return type will not be matched to the current type of whereto the value is returned, instead you have to tag the function/getter call itself with a type tag ex.: X = myFunc(Y) #of string. Only patterns that is tagged to return a string, will match to this call. Take note - the return type tag is not validated against the actual value returned either. So if function myFunc(Y) #of String actually returns a n integer, the system will not see this as an error.
Also if you call myFunc with no type tag, as in X = myFunc(Y), it will match - if the type is omitted when calling the function, the return type of the overloaded function is ignored.
ooo
So tell me classic ASP is not powerful. To do all this, we needed just over 1000 lines of code.
By the way, I work at one of the largest universities in the world, and this whole runtime include concept, is forming the base of its current IIS web sites. In other words, it does work :-)

Annotated edition for the May 31, 2020, Week in Ethereum News
Here’s the most clicked for the week:
I think the Societe Generale bond issuance paying Banque de France with a CBDC digital euro hadn’t been hyped at all, hence why it led the list. In fact, I don’t think anyone had noticed the press release until Julien Bouteloup tweeted it a week after it had gone out.
Given France’s history protecting domestic industry, you would expect Tezos to be getting these projects due its (probably inaccurate) reputation as being a French project. And I bet Tezos will get some involvement in the future from the French government linked projects, but it’s still notable that these things are still on Ethereum when Tezos has been live for nearly 2 years (though with very little use).
Meanwhile, alongside yesterday’s announcements of Starkware and OMG, Vitalik tweeted that “initial deployment of ethereum's layer 2 scaling strategy has *basically* succeeded.” That’s not wrong, but it’s prone to misinterpretation.
The history of layer2 in blockchain is not a particularly successful one. I’d argue that the question isn’t whether it works, per se, but can it work in a way that gets users over the long haul. Sure, we’re starting to see that (loopring is live with a million trades on its rollup!) - and we appear to be on the verge of real apps running on layer2 - but there’s a long history in Bitcoin and Ethereum of unrealistic expectations for layer2.
Here’s the high-level things for Eth holders reads:
8 things you should consider before staking
Devcon6 will be in Bogota in 2021
Liquidity mining: now you earn Balancer tokens for supplying liquidity or Compound tokens for supplying/borrowing
Lots of folks are considering whether to stake, how much to stake, whether to use a staking service, etc etc. Cayman’s post was a pretty good primer on these questions. Eth2 staking will lock your ETH up for awhile. The return is likely to be quite good, though as more people lock up ETH, the return declines. So it’s hard to say exactly what the return will be - and you won’t be liquid for a long while.
Eth2′s beacon chain is designed for decentralization, with penalties for being offline or doing something wrong (eg, double signing) going up exponentially if they are part of an attack (”correlated”).
That is to say, you should be totally fine staking at home even with mediocre residential connection - going offline usually just means you miss rewards. And even if you go offline when AWS goes down, as long as you bring your connection back up quickly, you should be relatively ok.
Staking services should professionalize the staking in ways that ameliorate some risks but which might provide hidden risk if they don’t make sure to think about the risks. Do they do their staking in the cloud, especially something like AWS east? Do they spread across different clients? How much of a honey pot are they?
Meanwhile, Devcon will be in Colombia but postponed until next year.
Finally, of my 3 high level articles to read: liquidity mining. DeFi apps like Balancer and Compound are decentralizing themselves by giving tokens to their users, to bootstrap the things the network needs to be example. By no means are these the first examples of giving away tokens to users, but these are 2 notable examples of a trend to keep an eye on.
Now for the annotations. A few sections I don’t have anything to add:
Eth1
Latest core devs call, discussion of EIPs for inclusion in Berlin hard fork, whether or not to include 2046 (static call to precompile gas reduction) and 2565 (modexp reprice). Working toward an ephemeral testnet for Berlin.
Latest fee market change (1559) call. Notes from the EIP1559 call
Discussion thread on meta transactions, oil, opcode repricing
Snap sync mainnet benchmarking, single peer on AWS
I basically say the same thing in this section every week. People are implementing the EIPs and figuring out which ones will be ready to go for Berlin. EIP1559 will not be ready until the hard fork after Berlin. Then in the longer-term, there’s lots of work on Stateless Ethereum (or the non-preferred nomenclature: 1.x 🤮) and that’s in discussion.
And then Peter is working on a new sync (formerly known as leaf sync) which seems to cut bandwidth way way down.
Eth2
Latest what’s new in eth2, features a Schlesi testnet postmortem
The new multi-client testnet is Witti. Here’s a guide to staking
Latest eth2 implementer call. Notes from Ben and Mamy
Cross-shard transaction simulation
8 things you should consider before staking
RocketPool is going to wrap the ETH locked up in Eth2 staking, thus giving liquidity to eth2 stakers
New multi-client testnet. They’re basically going to spin them up, try to break them, and not worry about rescuing them if they go down, since you can spin a new one up. This one is called Witti.
RocketPool deciding to tokenize the 32staked eth is interesting. It’s basically inevitable - anything that can get wrapped, eventually will get wrapped. This may end up being the decentralized way to get liquidity for your staked ETH if plans change and you decide you need liquidity for your 32 staked ETH. There will almost certainly be centralized ways - exchanges eventually offer staking and let you trade IOUs. Of course, that depends on how much you trust the exchange.

I’m not surprised Devcon got pushed to 2021, but I am disappointed. I’d like to see a prediction market on when the next ETH event is which has more than ~400 attendees.
We’re also getting out of the spring conference season (note for southern hemisphere readers: sorry, I know it’s fall for you), so I’m curious whether we’ll see online conferences continue to pop up for every day of the week. I suspect not, but it is open real estate at the moment.

Maker’s Oasis now makes it easy to leverage up with ETH
DeFi777 – wrap your erc20 tokens as erc777 tokens, then swap through ENS names
RenVM brings BTC, BCH, and ZEC to Ethereum as ERC20 tokens
Mstable basket of stablecoins live on mainnet, includes yield from Compound/Aave plus swap fees – there’s a zero slippage stablecoin trade with 30 basis points of fees
Centrifuge’s Tinlake asset factoring is on mainnet, with factoring for freight shipping and Spotify payments
4/8 arbitrarily classified as DeFi this week.
Zero slippage stablecoin trade is an interesting approach - of course, as a liquidity provider, you’re assuming those stablecoins stay stable. As a user, you want tiny slippage and tiny fees for going between two things that are supposed to represent the same value. As a liquidity provider you want as much fees as possible, especially since you’re assuming the risk of pegs slipping or being broken.
Also just wait until Centrifuge’s factoring gets pushed as collateral for Maker. I’m curious what the response will be - or is it hohum since some trusted assets have already been added?
Tokens/Business/Regulation
Liquidity mining: now you earn Balancer tokens for supplying liquidity or Compound tokens for supplying/borrowing
Zap your liquidity around in one transaction
Ryan Sean Adams: Eth is doubly undervalued
Gavin Andresen: crypto markets take a long time to reflect reality
People seem to call it maximalism these days when you point out that anything is overvalued, but I thought Gavin’s post was a concise reflection of the irrationality of crypto markets.
General
LadderLeak and ECDSA explainer
Hundreds of thousands of Thai users switching to Minds, a Twitter/Facebook hybrid social network incentivized through an ERC20 token
I checked out Minds. They did a token sale two years ago, though you can still buy it on their site now. It’s an interesting concept, you can get paid to post, except you have to pay to be a paid member first. I couldn’t quite work out what the incentives were for me, but social networks need to get traction in one niche and then expand, and it seems like they may be getting that in Thailand. I’d like to see more social network attempts using tokenized incentives.
