the years of experiencing Corporate Horrors and having moved into a role that is very like... strategy and planning oriented... has really meant that everyime i see some shit about the bioware-ea live service push pull and the (to me false) framing of datv as a 'failure' i can reeeeally see big picture what the narrative ea is trying to build here is. it's really a corporation(s) trying to manufacture consent with its audience (the wider gaming public) to push Mass Effect in a new direction that long time fans likely won't be thrilled about. They want to (probably) move away from the story oriented game and into live service and are likely using datv as a scapegoat to build consensus that this is a good idea. There's imo a really gross corporate strategic play happening here. (This happens a lot though, small building blocks to push an audience in the direction a company wants to go. This is jusssst very out in the open.)
