if i went into the amazon on ecological survey with one of the researchers who works at my job who does that exact thing every few years and a millionaire funding donor demanded he come with because he wanted to rough it would you cheer for my death when we all get eaten by panthers . be honest

#sorry but it is impossible for me to divorce this whole thing from my own relationship to it #i am absolutely exaggerating and failing at that because the occupational hazards of my field aren’t nearly as dire as #being crushed to death under thousands of feet of water #it’s just so insane to me that the occupational hazards researchers put themselves through regularly #or in this case are MADE to go through by what we now know is an exploitative company #are being celebrated because of essentially a one off where it’s not all researchers #genuinely curious how people would be reacting if it’s the same situation but just #one of the 18 planned research dives this year instead of their charters #is it still inevitable and hubristic and inappropriate then . because it literally could have been that. it was more likely to have been tha #then this. the people putting themselves repeatedly at risk and thus at most risk. are researchers #the whole reason they’re doing it is for funding why does that make them deserve—UGH!!#sorry it’s just absolutely sickening to me #myposts
