I need to find someone who worded this better but. This is your friendly reminder that a woman can be as masculine as she wants. A man can be as feminine as he wants. A nonbinary person can be feminine and masculine and androgynous and whatever they want: everyone can! Your expression and appearance and hobbies etc do not have to conform within a box to be allowed to exist, do not have to match those rigid lines of societys expectation of gender roles in any way at all for you to Be the Gender you Are. You are the gender you feel you are. Your expression can be and is whatever you want, and does not have to match up to expectations.

Music and Pride - Olly Alexander
Given recent events in the UK and seeing as it’s the start of Pride, we wanted to take a moment to talk about one artist who we believe is vital to pop culture, whose voice is loud, proud, honest and encouraging.
Olly Alexander is best known for being the vocalist in the chart topping band Years & Years but for myself and so many others, he has created an unbreakable bond with fans for his LGBTQ+ and mental health work.
Since hearing the number one single King, I knew I loved their music. Their album Communion was my 2015 soundtrack to Summer but the first time I really sat up and took notice was a pivotal moment for me during the band’s 2016 Glastonbury set. Almost 2 weeks after the horrific shooting in Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, dressed head to toe in rainbow colours Olly Alexander gave this short speech.
‘As you might be able to tell by the way that I’m dressed, I’m gay and in fact, I’m really really super gay…What I keep thinking about is how in the last year a lot of pretty scary and messed up stuff has happened. Now, as a queer person, as queer people we know what it’s like to be scared. We know what it’s like to live with fear. As part of our every day. But, tonight at Glastonbury, I would like to ask you to join me on Pride weekend, and say no thank you fear. To say, bye fear, bye. To literally shove a rainbow in fear’s face. And all I have to say to finish is, I’m here, I’m queer, and yeah sometimes I am afraid but I am never ashamed because I am proud of who I am!’
Subsequently that speech would be one that I played time and time again over the course of a year ... one that made me embrace my sexuality and want to be involved in the culture more than ever before.
With such an open, honest nature and being in one of the UK’s biggest contemporary pop bands, Olly Alexander found himself talking openly about mental health and past issues such as bullying. Not only did he share his personal life experiences but whilst in a relationship with Clean Bandit’s Neil Milan, the pair provided such a positive example of what a happy gay couple could look like... something that a lot of LGBTQ+ people grew up without ever seeing in the media.
A year on, the 26 year old has used his platform to speak out on political issues - a huge Corbyn lover, obviously! (who doesn’t love Corbyn?) he even joined Student Pride’s Sex Education panel to discuss LGBTQ+ sex - how to have it safely and enjoy it, why we need it as part of our curriculum and why it should never be a taboo subject.
Last night Years & Years took to the stage at London’s Mighty Hoopla festival where Olly took a moment to address the crowd with an important message.
‘So the past few months I’ve been working on this documentary for the BBC and basically it’s about mental health within the queer community. I’m sure you guys... you already know this but when you grow up queer in a straight world it can be kind of tough. We’re a very, very diverse community so like, it’s important to remember how the world is impacting us in different ways. But I think that one thing we can have in common is the love and support for each other. And one thing that I’ve learned recently from meeting people from this documentary is like, how hard we all find it to talk. Like, really, really... to talk. Like I’ve been feeling anxious as hell the past couple of weeks and I still haven’t really spoken about it, you know like, I don’t want to worry anyone or I think I’m being stupid but frankly it’s bullshit because we need to take some time to have a conversation with somebody. We need to take some time to actually listen to somebody, because it can make such a difference, like it really can, just talking.’
The speech was immediately followed by the party atmosphere that Olly, Mikey and Emre never fail to bring to the stage, complete with Olly stripping down to Kylie-esque gold pants and a body coated head to toe in glitter as he got down to Years & Years bangers with their team of dancers.
You see, the thing that makes Olly Alexander so special, the reason he’s so important to so many young people is because he is a constant example of ‘be the change you want to see in the world.’ We’re living in a society where mental health issues have risen but our help for it hasn’t, where more of us are coming out as part of the LGBTQ+ community and we need positive role models who don’t shy away from talking about our struggles but also someone who doesn’t speak on behalf of marginalised groups - who instead gives unheard voices a platform, someone who encourages a healthy attitude towards sex, who is open and honest but still very real and truthful about their own flaws and struggles. A man who doesn’t conform to gender expectations, doesn’t deliberately set out to be a role model but still uses his fame responsibly and welcomes everybody with the same open arms, spreading a message of love, respect and equality.
When I have a bad mental health day I find myself reaching for Years & Years because they have this wonderful ability whereby they address serious matters and then give you the relief and escapism you need.
Before my birthday I got a tattoo of Olly in a shirt that reads ‘Choose Love.’ It seemed right to honour a human who, in being himself so unapologetically, made me feel like everything was going to be okay. Because what Olly Alexander does, is he creates a dialogue and safe spaces for people to be exactly who they are so that if there’s no other place where you feel at home; know that at any Years & Years gig, any time you play a song, any time you get an opportunity to meet them ... you’re accepted, you are safe and you are valid.

Victor Conway +Soccer!09$ While I as well respect your's or anyone's rights to their opinions (even those of the pathetic, insult-spouting no-life's you've mentioned) I must address your analogy about naming warriors in history. Yes, you can name a bunch of male warriors in history just as I can name females. But where you're analogy falls flat is that you're not refuting anything. I never said males can't be warriors. You were the one making the point that women are inherently incapable of serving combat roles throughout history (Quote from you: "Throughout history, men have always been superior to women in combat. Men handle physical and emotional requirements in ways that women cannot,") to which I disproved that point by noting some of the most famous female warriors in history, who not only led armies into battle but also fought alongside them. The reasons they were capable of it correlates to my point that although biology has partly to do with why women get a an unfortunate start by birth when it comes to strength, upbringing and personal resolve are the ultimate indicators. Some of these women were raised in tribalistic, warrior, or peasant upbringings (Joan of Arc, Boudicca, Nakano Takeko, and Aliao) from which you have to be strong and hardened just to survive and/or conform, others were fortunate enough to be raised in societies that permitted an unusual amount of gender equality for their time and had female combat roles (Lyudmila Pavlichenko and Trieu Thi Trinh), and some were neither of these but were determined enough to be fighters that they pretended to be men just to join a combat role (Frances Clayton, the American Mulan). You can look them all up, I'm not just throwing names at you for no reason. I'm proving a point. But they all had one thing, and women today especially need it now due to the softening, neo-chivalric fragility by which we treat females in Western society. They need more time to develop as a soldier. I don't deny that most women are incapable to adapt to military standards at the same time as men. That's why we need to set the same standards for women but separate, longer training periods for them to develop physically and emotionally, and with even more attention by their Drill Sergeants/Instructors. 1 month ago•3 Soccer!09$ +Victor Conway On the side note, I do respect the fact that you are able to have an actual discussion with me. Most of the arguments on youtube are between fat no-life's who resort to calling eachother faggots and pussies because they're to stupid to come up with any sort of point. 1 month ago (edited)• Soccer!09$ +Victor Conway Listing names doesn't do much to further your argument. I could do the same: Vasili Zaetsev, Simo Hayha, Carlos Hathcock, Julius Caeser, Gaius Marius, Tran Hung Dao, David IV of Georgia, William the Conqueror, Ragnar Lothbrok (hell yeah), Richard Lionheart, Alexander the Great, Alvin York, Gaius Suetonius Paulinus (who beat the shit out of Boudicca when outnumbered 23-1). I can actually go on all day, and I mean that literally. The reason patriarchy did exist was because men were the ones who would go hunting and go to war while women were left with the responsibilities of maintaining homes, farms, etc. Now I'm not going to defend patriarchy (as you said, the actual form of it), but if women were on average more physically dominant then men and more successful in war and hunting, it would have been the other way around. Patriarchy existed for a reason. Men are, on average, bigger, stronger, and more physically dominant then women. The average man can bench press his own body weight whereas an average women can bench press somewhere around 33% of hers. As you know if you've served in the army, strength plays a huge part in any branch of the military. I myself attend marine corps poolie functions weekly, which are basically workout sessions for those enlisted in the USMC, and most of the girls who attend these things are outright terrible. Half of the women run the 1.5 mile in over 16 minutes, most of them are always falling behind and slowing down the rest of us, and not a single women our of all of them can perform the 80 meter sprint while carrying ammo bags in both hands. Combat roles really should be left to men, and if women must serve in the infantry, it ought to be in a way that they don't drag everyone else down. I don't see the problem of having all-male, all-female regiments. 1 month ago• Victor Conway +Soccer!09$ Go tell Joan of Arc, Lyudmila Pavlichenko, Boudicca, Trieu Thi Trinh, Nakano Takeko, Aliao, Frances Clayton, (I can go on and on) how men have always been superior to women in combat throughout history. I reckon it wouldn't go well. The only reason men are found in the majority of the history of warfare is because history in general has been patriarchal and barred women from service by the iron fist of the law. (And no, not the bullshit feminist definition of "patriarchy." I mean real patriarchy, where women could hardly leave the home without a male "guardian"). So you ask me whether I believe men and women should be organized to serve in the same battalion or regiment if they're in the same MOS? Yes. Because there's no strategic use to separate people skill in the same field just because of the composition of one's genitals. Should they sleep in different areas?Yes. But make it where the military has to rethink its tactic on the basis of whether to send an "all-male battalion" or all "all-female" is as ridiculous and useless as when we had white and colored ones. 1 month ago•2 Soccer!09$ +Victor Conway The way you talked about rape and sounded like a whiny SJW is what made me assume you were a feminist, because that's one of the trademarked things feminists do. You said "our society is extremely cut-throat about sexism" and I brought in the fact that people complain about a wage gap being sexist to show why this isn't exactly a good thing. And while the military is segregated to some extent, women still serve in the infantry alongside men, which is what I have a problem with. Throughout history, men have always been superior to women in combat. Men handle physical and emotional requirements in ways that women cannot, and that is no different now. If we get in another war, I have no doubt this politically correct idea that women can be equal to or better then men in combat is going to get people killed. And you say you are arguing "legitimate gender equality", but I can't even tell where you stand in this argument now anyways, so answer me this question. Do you believe women should be allowed to serve alongside men in the infantry? Because that is what I am against. 1 month ago• Victor Conway +Soccer!09$ I am not a feminist. Not an MRA either. I am an egalitarian. And you ask me to enlighten you as to why I think women should still serve in combat roles but I already explained that to you. The reason women are not as effective as men is because they're not held to the same standards. If they cannot perform the same level of fitness as men for combat roles at the same timing, then female trainees need to be given longer training periods until we hit a statistic where women can fit the same standards as men. And the military is already segregated in terms of gender. You honestly think you're going to sleep in the same room as your opposite gender? Not happening for obvious reasons, there's enough unsolicited male-on-male PDAs and even sexual assault in the military as it is. And the same goes for when you're deployed...or at least as much as possible in a combat situation. You interpret me as a "feminist retard" for simply arguing legitimate gender equality. But I could call you one of those neckbeard morons who scoff every time a female lead is in a movie. Labels are so fun to apply to people, aren't they? And where did the "wag gap" argument come from? Did you just assume that I believe in it alongside your assumption that I'm a feminist? This is my problem with "anti-SJWs" they are just as dogmatic as SJWs.Anything having to do with gender equality is the new "politically incorrect" (thoughtcrime) for anti-SJWs. 1 month ago (edited)•2 Soccer!09$ +Victor Conway I was actually enjoying our discussion until you had to bring up that feminist bullshit at the end. In response to your first paragraph, I agree with most of your points, but there are some things women simply can't do that men can't. And as I said before, it is 100% proven that the addition of women into the infantry has negatively impacted combat efficiency in several regiments. Because of this, I really cannot comprehend why they don't just segregate the women who join the infantry so they aren't putting other servicemen at risk. That way, they'd even be able to follow a more fitting pace as you said. Perhaps you can enlighten me as to why this isn't a thing. In response to your second paragraph, where you effectively went full retard, you can't argue with the statistics showing the inefficiency of women in combat roles compared to to men. These statistics have been produced by both the army, navy, and marine corps, but liberal fucks choose not to pay any mind to it. Sexism hardly exists in our society anymore, contrary to what your modern-day feminist might want you to believe. The infamous "wage gap" which all feminists seem to fall back on when in an argument is a myth that doesn't take in to account the different jobs men take, the amount of hours men and women work, etc. Now obviously there will always still be people who are sexist, just like there will always be racists, but there's really nothing we can do about those retarded fucks besides ignore them. In our modern American society, men suffer from sexism worst then women. For instance, 3.5x as many men commit suicide, 80% of work-related deaths are of men, and women have access to a huge array of different places to go for domestic violence whereas men do not. Now a partly agree with you when you say we should reform our rape laws. I think it is utterly disgusting how male rapists are given 20 years in prison on average whereas female rapists on average serve less then three years in prison. 1 month ago• Victor Conway +Soccer!09$ The reason for that is we don't give female soldiers enough training and attention to become soldiers. Women may start off biologically weaker than men, but that doesn't make it permanent with proper determination, as a number of societies who had female warriors have proven throughout history. Female soldiers need more time in training to fit the military quota. But that's the only solution I'd accept. I will never support going back to the old days where one is barred from the honor of combat roles just because she's a woman. Fortunately, I don't see the American people ever supporting that reversion as fortunately our society is becoming extremely cut-throat about sexism, and as it should be. Hopefully one day we'll also reform our laws and judicial procedures so that the proper punishments are exercised onto rapists as well. 1 month ago (edited)•2

Bollywood rebel Kajol: aEUR~ IA never held a damn what anyone to say something about me. IA stillA donaEUR( tm) taEUR( tm)
The Indian film star has been criticized by her unconventional appears, her unexpected busines alternatives and for demanding better roles. She discusses her 22 -year on-screen woo with Shah Rukh Khan and why she refuses to give advice to young actors
Kajols isnt a quiet presence. She talks rapidly, titters loudly, and is uncharacteristically goofy for Bollywood royalty, shedding her mitts about so much better in a meagre London hotel suite that her jewellery wings across the room. The actor, 41, embarked her occupation 23 years ago and views the record for winning better actress( six experiences, tied with her late aunt Nutan) at the Indian Filmfare awards. She has long been considered one of the countrys most unconventional stellars for allegedly not conforming to the industrys narrow allure ideals, for twice taking long break-dances at the top of her job, and for castigating heads for not shedding her in parts written for male leads. She is back to acting, after a five-year hiatus( looking after my boys, being a wife, baby, human ), with Dilwale. The movie commemorates a much-hyped reunion with Shah Rukh Khan the couple have represented their most successful cinemas together over the past two decades and are consistently voted Indian cinemas excellent on-screen pair. Their biggest strike, 1995 s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge( DDLJ ), has gone on to be the longest-screened movie in Indian cinema record, still showing in Mumbai theatres today.
Whats it like to be back after such a long shatter? Well, I do stop having breaks as everyone knows. Im quite the violate being. But very great enjoyable. Weve been filming in a marathon, six months non stop, and after that long with a gang you want to touch one another and never investigate those people again. But its worth it. I dont get that same enjoyment doing anything else.
Did you ever worry that taking those flouts and walking away from your huge success as a bankable female lead-in was a career play? Im picky; Ive done very little toil compared to my peers. But I cant work on three cinemas a year. Ive never appeared cozy doing that. Not at the beginning of my career and definitely not after I got married.[ Kajol is married to actor Ajay Devgan. They have a 12 -year-old daughter and a five-year-old son .] I necessary that time out, to look at my boys, go to sleep with them and wake up with them, have breakfast with them. I desire my girls, but I like them , extremely I involve their fellowship to retain me grounded and in every which way.

Your daughter is almost a girl now. What have you learned from her and what does she learn from you? There is huge pres for her, as she puts it, with what education of girls are doing and is able to do at that age but they have a natural bia to lie also. Ive realised that. Their mothers are letting them do all this, and youre not letting me do this yeah, thats a good one. Regrettably for her, Im in touch with those the women and I know their daughters are attracting the same ruse. But somewhere down the line, you have to give them some leeway. They are in a different world I cannot compare what my childhood was like with hers. We were road dumber at their age. We thought we were very smart, but we were very stupid. Fortunately for me, my daughter has always been a strong individual, with very strong likes and disfavours, and she used vocal about them.
The press often say the same of you. [ Laughs ] I know. Damn. And I have to live with myself!
Bollywood has changed dramatically since you first started, dont you think? It has become big. Even small things like vanity vans[ trailers ], we didnt have that 15 years ago. The machinery has taken on a whole new grade. Unexpectedly you have people with specialisms, suddenly everyones more professional and its capable of being make different kinds of cinemas. There is an array of scripts that arent just ideas in people chiefs any more. And its not just about the youngest and best available. Thank God that stage is over.
Do you miss not filling that territory anymore? No, you grow up. After a place, you get sick of running around the trees. Theres simply so much better thoughtlessness you can manage in your busines you have to be at that theatre and in that frame of mind to do it. I often get: Oh my God, why didnt you take that percentage? The character was so good, but if I cant appear a persona, if I cant visualise that, then Im not the right party for it. Its difficult to explain to someone when Im saying no to their script.
For a long time, the industry and its press named you an unconventional leading lady for having a duskier hue, for not plucking your eyebrows, for having shabby whisker, for not being size zero. Did it ever bother you? [ Laughs ] I never generated a damn about what anyone said about me. I still dont. Size zero is in, but I dont understand it. I might be into the fitness activity now, but I never paid attention to it back then. The commentators pounce on me a little less now than they would anyone else, Ive deserved that. Plus, I cant afford to give in to that pres. It would drive me absurd and I would need to be lock the door. Im already mad and possibly require fastening up anyway!

Your biggest reaches Baazigar , DDLJ, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai , Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham , My Name is Khan have checked you partnered up with Shah Rukh Khan . Audiences cant get enough of you together. Why? Weve known each other for 22 years, we build films together every few years its simple-minded. His power hasnt changed. Its even more evident, hes very passionate about it. He has clear ideas of how things should be, but you get better at foreseeing another persons moves and thoughts. I can nearly predict how a scene with him is going to go and he can do the same for me. We automatically know that about one another. He has learnt me a lot in life.
Hollywoods female actors have consistently campaigned for there has become still more roles for women over 40 , and more diversity on screen . How does Bollywoods record compare? Thank God for the gatherings: the opinions and flavors have changed and it has allowed the industry to move in a new direction. Movies will ever reflect what the audience wants and, as long as they want to see all kinds of movies, all kinds of films will be made. I have no complaints.
Do you get asked for advice by younger female actors? Even if I do, I never dedicate it. Advice is a little too free and easy around the world everyone has to develop their own route. What I did when I was 18 years old is so different to what someone now might do.
Do you contemplate yourself a feminist? I do debate myself a feminist, but I am contrary so I can also be considered the opposite. I believe in the equality of men and women, but I dont object to courtesy. I believe in it; equal opportunities should not aim girls should be ashamed to be feminine. I dont believe men are made to rule “the worlds” in the same method I dont believe dames should be doormats.

But the stigma of not wanting to do happens like a boy or being made to feel stupid in traditional gender characters is dumb.
Dilwale is released after cinemas worldwide on 18 December
