Six(ish) Sentence Sunday
Tumblr media
I've already shared a few snippets from my trans!Alex Fandom Trumps Hate fic, which I am SO fucking excited about—but I've also taken my usual batshit chaotic approach of 'just write stuff as inspiration hits and fit it all together later', and I realised a not-insignificant period of time into doing this that I'd written some stuff that was inherently contradictory. But I also LOVED it all and didn't wanna give anything up... so long story short, now I have TWO trans!Alex WIPs 🤣 One is the longer, more Big Feelings fic for FTH... and the other is this, which will be a bit shorter. And pornier. I mean, they'll both have porn and feelings, because I am who I am, but... you know. Let's fucking go. (I might try to smash this one out for @rwrbgenderfunkyfest if I can!)
“Jesus fuck, sweetheart.” Alex buries one hand in his own curls as he comes down, the other resting on the top of Henry’s head, who has only moved far enough away to press soft kisses to Alex’s thigh. Henry’s face is a fucking mess, and he looks… well, he would say Henry looks unduly proud of himself, except for the fact that his knees currently have the approximate consistency and weight-bearing capabilities of a particularly booze-heavy jello shot, so really, Henry’s earned the smugness that’s radiating out of every pore. “That was—” “Yes, it was rather.” Henry smirks, his eyes locked on Alex’s as he flattens it, dragging it up towards his hip before planting a hard, toothy kiss there. His hand slides up Alex’s other leg until his thumb is resting at the edge of the scar above Alex’s pubic bone, and Alex reads the question in his eyes half a second before he voices it. “May I?” Alex blinks. In his experience, people tend to ignore his scars completely during sex, even if they have practical questions about the equipment. But Henry’s already sucked him off until he saw God—if he gets any better at it, Alex might die. “If you want.” Henry’s smile softens into something sweet and hopeful and breathtaking, and then he leans forward to press an almost unbearably gentle kiss to the raised skin there. “Christ, you’re beautiful.” It’s so quiet, Alex isn’t sure he was meant to hear it at all.

*sorry I think my ask cut off the first bit here so I'm sending it again (Haladriel reminds me of Darklina, in the sense that both characters are so loved by me individually and the dynamic is fascinating, but as an actual ship in fandom? I have to navigate through the misogynist takes that are reducing the female character to a trophy)
I saw this in the haladriel tag on x and I think I pinned down the reason why there are certain people who can't handle dark ships and won't stop invalidating them by screaming about abuse/misogyny. It's because in their minds, they take things very concretely, not being able to 'read between the lines', and thus it's hard for them to really think in abstract ways. They just can't divorce fictional characters from actual problems in society. Don't get me wrong, there is a parallel between them that exists as a fine line, and we should absolutely call some things out. But in the realm of fictional characters, shipping, and make believe? That's strictly a 'them/individual' problem, not an 'us' problem. There are SO many haladriel shippers. We get so many fanart by talented people, many of whom haven't even heard of Tolkien. Are they supporting misogyny or have they had to 'navigate thru misogynist takes' in order to draw two characters together because they like their dynamic? It's not our fault that these canon police antis can't separate fiction from reality, and see every aggression toward a female character (unless it's by another female character, or it's a m/m relationship) as misogyny, while ignoring actual inequality in societies around us, as well as ignoring the truth that men can also become victims of abuse/violence. It all goes back to the funny hypocrisy of touting a beloved female character with admirable traits like strong, fierce, powerful, but the instant a male character challenges her and shows any kind of aggression at her - because spoiler alert, he's a villain, it's literally how he was written - these canon police antis whine about misogyny instead of just saying they don't see what shippers see in a fictional pairing and leave it at that. Like, it's ok, you don't need a reason to not like a pairing. The funny thing is, for all their fascination on Galadriel and Sauron as individuals, they fail to comprehend Sauron's character beyond what is stated in black and white in front of them (going back to the concrete vs abstract thinking). I'm not even a huge fan of Charlie, and even I can understand the 'seeing Gal as a trophy' bit is just a very simplified jest at the comparison to Morgoth and the Silmarils. If they actually bothered to read more of his interviews, it's very clear he sees her as beyond just that. Oh, she's just another ring to him basically? Ok but then why do I keep hearing cosmic connection spoken by him anytime Galadriel is brought up in interviews? Cosmic connection flew over this person's head like a frisbee.
I hope you don't mind me saying I never liked Darklina 🙈 I don't know if it's because I wasn't a big fan of the show in general, of because of the actor I found too pretty, or the dynamic in general... It just never worked for me.
I'm probably significantly older than most Tumblr users, old enough to remember how Mulder and Scully shippers were shamed and mocked when Internet and forums barely started to be a thing anyway 🤣 If you ever heard of X Files or even better, watched it, you know that there isn't a ship that's more vanilla than this one. And yet shippers were being mocked for seeing romance where there was only "platonic friendship" (joke on them, 9 years later Mulder and Scully were endgame), when we weren't told that "Scully deserved better" because "Mulder was abusive towards her
Shippers were always made fun to and it'll never stop, I'm afraid. I've stopped caring about what anyone has to say about a fictional romance I like tbh. I don't know if you use social media such as Reddit and Twitter, as far as I m concerned avoiding these places help a lot. Haters don't seem aware of Tumblr's existence, and I pray every day that they remain ignorant because I really like it here 💜
The best we can do is to keep having fun with what we love... That won't change these idiot's minds, but it will probably piss them off ;)

Writer Q&A
Yay, today's tag game is a Q&A, for which I have @tabswrites to thank! Tess's post is here.
What is your absolute all-time favorite idea you’ve ever had?
Well, I thought it was writing a memoir about the two months I spent on a tall ship sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. The publishing industry thought differently, and now my agent won't return my calls. 😂
Actually, I think all of the ideas that I've actually gone on to execute (except that one, but granted, I only ever wrote three chapters) were good. If an idea isn't good, I probably won't get far with it.
Is there a question you’ve been asked in the past that really stands out to you, and you still think about sometimes?
I've been asked (in a nice way) why I like to write the things I like to write about in fiction (whump and slavery in particular). I could probably write a paper on it, but it's something I don't mind thinking deeply about. Is it trauma? Is it just personal preference? Is it a bit of both? I probably will never know.
What is your favorite part of being a writer? What parts could you take or leave?
Making people feel things via my stories. Think about what a powerful gift that is. You created a fictional person and someone cared enough about them (in that moment) anyway to feel an emotion based on what happened to them. I'm actually not always great at expressing emotion in my real life (I mean, who is) and I DEFINITELY suck at telling stories verbally. (Seriously, it surprises people that I can't tell an anecdote to save my life; I get tongue-tied and awkward. I just can't do it). But I love writing stories because it's the best means (sometimes the only means) I know to make a connection with someone emotionally in that way.
But almost literally having to strap yourself down in front of a screen and go days without experiencing sunlight, fresh air, or other human because it's the only way you can finish something you're working on and feel superhumanly compelled to finish? Take or leave.
What is your greatest motivation to write/create?
Characters with stories that simply are crying to come out, and that haven't been told by anyone else. (If they HAVE been told by someone else, I wouldn't need to write them!)
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever read or been given as a writer?
Write what you want, not what you think you should.
What do you wish you knew when you were first starting out writing?
See above.
What is your favorite story you’ve written to completion? Link it if you’d like and can!
The Adored, my YA thriller. I've completed (and published) three other novels, but this is the only one I'll talk about. 😂
What is your favorite out-of-the-box quote?
Bad writers imitate. Good writers steal.
Which of your characters would you say has the most controversial mindset? Why do you say so, and how do you personally feel about their ideals?
Wait, do you actually mean "controversial," or do you mean just plain evil? Because I have plenty of villains whose mindsets are just ... not good at all. Assuming you mean just controversial and/or morally gray, Jake from Good Slaves Never Break the Rules has ideals that are noble, but his methods are, well, less so. It's not entirely his fault, though!
If you, when you first started writing, met you now, what would younger you think?
I think she'd probably hit me over the head with a wiffle bat (I started writing when I was four or five so I feel that would be her weapon of choice) for getting so far away from my roots (i.e. writing romance and things I'm passionate about) and taking this long to get back to them.
I always seem to tag the following people in games they've already done or don't wanna be tagged in, and I expect this one will be no exception.🤣 But I'll give it a shot! And please ignore it if I failed again:

20 questions for fic writers!
Thanks for tagging me @givereadersahug
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
I've only just reached 14!!! But one of those is a translation of an already published work, so technically it's 13.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
571 k
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Just HP for now.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Brighter Than Bright
On the Deficiencies of Translation Spells
Miraculous
Certain Dark Things
with great outbursts and lightnings
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! Sometimes it takes a while, because I need lots of energy to respond, but I try to respond to each and every comment, even if I don't have anything particular to say. Leaving comments is harder than it seems, and I'm grateful for anyone who takes the time to tell me how they feel about about my fics.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Mmm. Probably Sudden Light. It's not so much an unhappy ending, more of an open ending, but I guess that because there is no obvious closure, it can be seen as a pretty angsty ending.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Oh that's hard... It's probably a tie between On the Deficiencies of Translation Spells and Certain Dark Things. Both have similar "and they lived happily ever after" endings.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not hate, no. Just questionable and sometimes rude-ish comments. Which I just ignore and delete now. I used to spend so much energy on trying to reason with those people and justify why I wrote the things they questioned or didn't like. I understand now that I can't please everyone, and I don't bother interacting with those readers anymore. And I'm not above blocking people to protect myself and avoid drama.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yessss! The filthy kind!! 🤣 Okay, no, I really really enjoy reading porn with feelings. So that's what I try to write.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I haven't written one yet, but I'd really love to someday. They are a ton of work though. If I did, I think I'd love a LOTR crossover... I'm just absolutely in love with that universe and would love to explore it more and maybe have all my favourite characters mingle!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, by myself. I have some trust issues when it comes to my works and those have caused me to refuse any translation requests. I hope, in time, I can get over this fear. But I've had fun translating one of my own fics into French, and I'm hoping to translate more in the future.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I would love to!!! I think I would find it hard to do though, because I get very possessive of my ideas and things usually take shape so vividly in my head that I would find it hard to compromise on certain aspects of a fic. But with the right person, I would love to try a collab!
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Snarry, no question. But I do enjoy reading Harry with anyone. He's my baby and I'll always support him! He just deserves all the love! And all the sexy times!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Probably Brighter Than Bright. I'm not doubting I will finish it, I know I will, in time, but I just don't know when. Because it's such a big endeavour and I've been having inspiration problems with that fic for a long time.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I'm really good at writing introspection. It comes easy to me anyway... if that's how we define strength?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Dialogues, probably. It's the aspect of writing I struggle with the most.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I did it and it's fun! But it's important to double check with a native speaker and make sure it's all good.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
HP all the way.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
I would normally say with great outbursts and lightnings, because it's my very first snarry and the most precious to me, for many reasons. But I think my favourite may actually be Certain Dark Things. Because it was so fun to write, because I love the imagery and the atmosphere of this fic to death. And it's based (loosely) on my favourite book, so it would make sense why I love it so much.
Tagging: anyone who wants to play! I don't want to bother anyone, so please if you feel like doing this, pretend I tagged you. 🥰

Ao3 Author Tag Game
I was tagged by @alpharaposa
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
64 works 😊
2. What is your total AO3 word count?
598,592
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Uhhhhh….. there’s a lot. So, I’m just gonna list my top 5 written for fandoms: Scum Villain Self-Saving System, Naruto, MDZS, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1 - Ear to the Wall (Naruto), 11793 kudos
2 - Ear to the Wall - Excerpts (Naruto), 2063 kudos
3 - huddle for warmth (SVSSS), 1468 kudos
4 - and I’m reminded of the simple life (where I work and just be used) (SVSSS), 1446 kudos
5 - Tumblin’ SVSSS, 1411 kudos
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes I do, as much as I can! It’s more often for fics with less comments, though, as opposed to fics like ETTW that have uh. Hundreds. Because sometimes I don’t really remember what part of the story they’re talking about 😅 but I try my best! And I’m always willing to chat on discord or tumblr or Twitter (same username)!
6. What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
Oh lord. Uh. I don’t like angsty endings? I like happy endings. I pack all my angst into the beginning or middle parts of the stories and then I resolve it bc that’s my favorite food.
7. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've ever written?
Ahaaaaa yes I do 😏 hm, my craziest crossover…? I’m not entirely sure, it’s my thoughts that any fandoms can be crossed over reasonably with a little brainstorming. Maybe I should say my most ambitious crossover? That would be… I actually don’t know. Maybe the MDZS/Among Us crossover. Or the Kamisama Kiss/Corpse Party crossover. Nah wait, it’s definitely the SVSSS/BOFURI crossover.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Oh, plenty! A lot more often back when I was first starting out than now, and getting ‘flames’ was so much more common on FFN than it is for me on Ao3. It’s one of the reasons I enjoy posting to Ao3 more.
I started posting fanfic when I was 11 years old, so you can imagine all the grown ass adults or teenagers who probably didn’t consider they were shoveling their insults at a baby who hadn’t finished their grammar courses in elementary school yet 🤣 or maybe some of them did but didn’t care bc they were garbage human beings? Who knows.
What I gotta say is: just keep writing, homies <3 you WILL progress and figure out the style you’re most comfortable with as long as you persevere and ignore the commentors who think they’re in charge of your fic 🙄 they ain’t! It’s YOU, you’re the Boss. So fire those losers and keep writing 🙌🏻
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Ahahahahahahahah…. No. Maybe one day but it’s highly unlikely. I do read it but I’ve never written for it and uh. Not sure if I wanna start 🤣 I think I’d be too embarrassed.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Hm…….. I don’t think so? I don’t really ever check so I can’t be sure tho.
11. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I’m writing one right now! A SVSSS fic with Chershares, og!SQH/MBJ/Airplane!SQH 😁
12. What's your favorite ship in your most written for fandom?
That would be SVSSS, haha! And I think everybody knows that my top ship for that is Shang Qinghua/Anyone 🤣🙌🏻
13. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Danny Phantom!! It was a teeny tiny oneshot that was super angsty, which I think should have told me what kind of author I’d be in the future ahahaha 🤣
14. What's your favorite fic you've written?
Hmmmmm…. My favorite? That is subject to change. I think 🧐 at this very moment I would say….. lord I don’t even know haha. Maybe simple life. I’m very fond of that one.
And now I tag 5 fellow authors: @chershare @hiddenbyfaeries @robininthelabyrinth @nillegible @myakkoh
