LOL remember when kid gai stood up to kid kakashi in ninja preschool and declared im your eternal rival your man of destiny but kakashi was too depressed to care because his dad k*lled himself so he was like huh? so they started punching each other and kakashi kicked gai’s ass and then years later when maito dai sacrificed himself and died a hero after being a laughing stock his entire life and gai went down to the river at sunset w/kakashi and was like i just dont get any of it!!! to which kakashi literally responded i dont think there’s a cooler shinobi out there and then gai looked at him w/this expression 🥺 or that one time some time after obito got crushed by that boulder when they’d sent gai as his replacement for a team minato mission and they were inside a cave hiding from enemy shinobi and it was very late and they were running out of supplies and attack plans so gai in his natural fashion went like im GOING to sacrifice myself and buy you all some time >:) but kakashi went mad at him and pulled him by the collar of his flak jacket and was like NO you’re going to FOLLOW my ORDERS because im CAPTAIN and then there was a flashback to obito’s flat fuck friday w/kakashi’s voiceover saying i dont want this to happen again...but gai yet again in his natural fashion didnt care and carried out his plan in an attempt to not only protect his team but also to prove his rival wrong...then kakashi caught up to him and was like wtf!!!!!!! it’s bad to disobey orders (but thank you) completed with this voiceover line that was smth like i have to protect him and so they proceeded to fight tenths of men on their own until they both practically ran out of chakra but kakashi managed to SLICE A HUGE BEAM OF ELECTRICITY with chidori anyway to protect gai and then they were both like !!! cut to adulthood when they both saved each other’s asses several times and then kakashi was announced as the next hokage and got depressed again so gai was like NO im challenging you to one last rivalry challenge and they went on a race around konoha and looked idiotic while doing it but it was ideal because...kakashi needed a distraction and then once kakashi won the race gai gave him a flower bouquet with periwinkles and was like it was an honor to be your rival but now that you’re hokage im no match for u rip to which kakashi said you and i are eternal rivals, that’ll never change AND gai im serious i find it reassuring to have you here and then he cried and then some time later kakashi LITERALLY ran through the ocean to get to gai bc he’d send his sos tortoise over and then a lot of stuff happened but once it was all cleared up kakashi got emo and asked gai if the case was where anything happened to him...he’d rush right over right? and gai literally said damn right i will! and then years later in the war kakashi lost his eyesight in the middle of a fight and he was like ok no biggie i’ll just feel gai’s movements and copy them because we’ve fought so many times in the past i know his movements like the back of my hand and dont need my eyes to know what he’ll do and they obviously won the fight LMAO or how in the same war kakashi literally watched gai burst into flames in sexy fashion and it mustve been horrible and tragic because he already KNEW it was going to happen at some point...and how...after all of it they ended up going on a lengthy nostalgic trip to various hot springs until the One with this crazy cultist who promised ppl they’d see their dead loved ones in a miraculous hot spring and kakashi was like ok gai if there was a hot spring that’d heal your leg i....and gai went on to give the sappiest speech which contained gems like we’ve been through so much together kakashi havent we? and im alive and next to you what more could i ask for? and besides thanks to that you’re always by my side. i want that more than anything. and kakashi looked at him longingly and said thank you and it’s insane because...it seems like they really ended up being eternal rivals didnt they
