this one is giving me a lot of ideas, but i'll settle on a modern au jaykyle fic. they start out as the friend of a friend, finding each other annoying then upgrading to a proper petty feud with each other for months. it shifts into a friend with benefits situation when they're both too insufferable for anyone around them to handle them and the hatefuck after fighting feels good actually, makes them both feel alive and young. but they catch feeling, both of them, jason dealing by repressing them hard and acting even more cold and kyle by pinning and indulging what ifs, even if he hates that he's thinking about jason. during all this time they aren't honest with one another, not about their feelings but also not about their life and random things, they don't know much about their jobs, private lifes and interests, a lot of details from their respective pasts are missing, that kind of thing, they both shield their selves after one too many hurt hearts. the fic starts when the pinning and unwanted emotions are starting too, and it follows as they get together. whatever events that force them to be close/have others see them closer will push them over the edge, and when jason does/says something loving to kyle, kyle says out loud "please let it be real". either jason confirms or says nothing, and maybe they do get together or they don't, anything could happen as the ending

this would be in the emt/firefighter ideas of a modern au i have. maybe kyle gets hurt and jason takes him to the hospital and says he's his bf so he can stay with and watch over him, or kyle ropes jason in to be his pretend date at a firefighter event when the others keep teasing him about the fact that he's single and they work a bit too well as a couple
