A breeze drifts through the foliage, and Zoro squints against the glaring sunlight overhead. He doesn’t recognize anything—not even the climate—and after a moment he closes his eye again, heaving a sigh that draws out into an aggravated kind of groan, because sure, fantastic, incredible. No swords, no crew, no memory. Typical day on a new island, then.

Suddenly, a dark blur drops down from above, landing in a crouch, and all of Zoro's muscles tense. He hadn't sensed anyone else, so how—

A blond kid no more than ten years old stands in front of him, adjusting a worn tophat with one hand and gripping a long, lethal-looking metal pipe with the other. He's dressed well—in a dirty but clearly expensive suit, each piece of which is a slightly different shade of blue—and he looks pissed.

“Don’t move!” the kid shouts, swinging his weapon in a clear threat. “Who are you, and what the hell did you do with my little brother?”

My reaction to THE LAST JEDI

 After two years of waiting. Two years of debating whether Rey is a Solo, Skywalker or a Kenobi. Two years of getting bullied over liking a fictional character. Two years of speculation. The wait is finally over when the music starts Star Wars theme finally blasts and the story begins.

So much happens in the first few minutes! The Resistance evacuate D’Qar as the First Order tracks them down. Poe (hey bo!) goes in solo to take down the canon on the FO ship, so that the rest of the Resistance can escape safely. Poe gets ambitious, disregarding Leia’s orders to retreat and goes after the First Order by using the bombers. One only successfully released the bombs and took down a FO Dreadnaught at a cost of so many lives. Leia slaps and demotes him for disobeying orders. This sets up his arc of learning to become a leader, choosing the right moments to fight and not be a ‘trigger happy flyboy’.

If this is how Rian is handling characters, I strapped in for the emotional ride I know I will be experiencing.

Now the continuation of the literal cliffhanger starts. Luke takes the lightsaber and throws it away not interested in joining the battle. Rey doesnt take no for an answer and follows him around. Now seeing his daily routines of drinking green milk ( ͡º ͜ʖ ͡º) , fishing, trekking... Rey then feels the force tree calling her, which contains the Original Jedi Text. Luke then realizes she’s special and questions why the Resistance sent her. She tells him that something awoken within her and she needs help. Luke rejects her plea. He wants the jedi to end with him with his death. 

So depressing to see the golden boy turn into this hermit.

Back to the dark side, Snoke reprimands Hux, by dragging him like a rag doll using the force. Was only me who remembered Loki here. 

Hux tells Snoke that he has the Resistance 'on a string’, revealing that he can follow them through lightspeed. Since there is no big time jump between TFA and TLJ, I had to suspend my disbelief that this reveal has just been concocted.

At Snoke’s throne Room, Kylo Ren wearing the masks comes in and kneels before his master. Snoke starts to berate him for “being unbalanced” and “bested by a girl”. Dismissing killing his father as any type of accomplishment. 

“You are no Vader. You are just a child in a mask”

Kylo Ren couldn’t control his anger and smashes his mask when he is by himself in the elevator then runs off to prove himself one more time by going after The Resistance. Still seeking Snoke’s approval. I wanted to hit Kylo. REMEMBER YOUR FATHER’S WARNING! HE IS USING YOU!

Kylo attack the Resistance ship and we get the scene from the trailer, where Leia and Kylo connect. He doesn’t fire on his mother, but the TIE fighter with him do. The command bridge explodes and you get to see Leia get sucked out to space. I was mentally prepared for her death, not expecting it to happen in the start, but I accepted it. Only for Leia floating in space uses her force powers to return back to the ship. I am glad she survives, but I kept thinking that TPTB will not dare kill her off again after the fake-out. 

Admiral Holdo is appointed in place of Leia and decides to not fight back. Poe challenges her defeatist plan and helps Rose and Finn execute their plan of infiltrating the first order to disable the tracker. Another way to summarize their storyline: With or without Finn and Rose, the story will unfold the same and with even more Resistance survivors.

Now here is where the story picks up for me especially as a two year old die hard reylo fan.

Rey wakes up and starts to sense something. Then cut to Kylo sitting alone on the Supremacy also starts to sense something. Then it happens. The force bond! It happens 5 fucking times throughout the movie!

When they see each other, Rey shoots first! She will be a great Solo.. a great Mrs. Solo   ( ͡º ͜ʖ ͡º)  

Kylo is the one to converse, while Rey is not having it. “You’re gonna pay for what you did” and does not tell Luke about seeing Kylo.

Again, it happens, while Rey admires the rain.

“Murderous Snake! You lost! I found Luke Skwalker!” Rey snaps at him.

“Did he tell you what happened on the night I destroyed his temple. Did he tell you why?” Kylo asks her.

The mystery is killing me. What did happen? A lot have speculated that he found out he’s Vader’s grandson that pushed him over the edge. I honestly thought its all Snoke’s doing without any other factors. But something happened. That what kylo is implying!

Luke tells Rey that on that day he went to confront Ben and he turned on him. He vanished with a ‘handful’ of students (Knights on Ren for sure) and killed the rest. Luke blame himself for failing Ben and Leia.

At night, the third force bond and my favorite scene for clear… very clear and shirtless reasons. 

Finally Rey starts to converse with Kylo Ren. Telling him to cover up before asking him why he killed his father with tears in her eyes. Kylo understands Rey. Pointing out that her greatest weakness of looking for her parents in Han Solo and now in Luke.

“Did he tell you what happen that night?” Kylo Ren asks again. The revelation was shocking! Luke tried to kill Ben when he was sleeping and Ren defended himself. Luke would never…! And I don’t think Kylo Ren is lying. Im so confused!

Rey goes off to the dark side cave, seeking answers about her parents. Seeing two shadows merge into one. Revealing her reflection. Call back to Luke in Dagobah. 

“I felt so alone” she explains. sitting in her hut, next to the fire and talking to Kylo Ren! Confiding i him!! 

“You are not alone” he ensures her. You can see it in his eyes that he cares!

“Neither are you” 

DID I HEAR THAT CORRECTLY?! DID I DIE AND GO TO REYLO HEAVEN???

Then Rey extend her hand, and Kylo removing his glove to touch it!

HEAR THAT! THATS MILLIONS OF REYLOS SCREAMING FOR JOY! !!!

ITS REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ITS CANON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Luke interrupts their moment of hand holding and destroys the hut! I heard this rumor I think a year ago and cannot believe it became true!! 

He tells Rey to leave his island, but she fights him. Blaming him for creating Kylo Ren.

Then the real story and final rendition of what happened the day of the ‘temple burning’ is Luke goes to Ben and reads his mind while sleeping. Terrified by the darkness inside him, he turns his lightsaber on instinct, but stops himself. Only for Ben to wakeup and see his master and uncle with a lightsaber and defends himself. That fleeting moment condemned Ben to the darkness.

Rey tells Luke that when they touched hands “I saw his future as solid as I am seeing you. If I go to him, Ben Solo will turn”. She overs the lightsaber one more time to Luke to join her, but he declines. So she goes after the ‘last hope’ and arrives at the Supremacy. Kylo Ren is the first on the scene, but doesn’t say anything.

In the elevator, Rey is handcuffed and breaks the silence by calling him Ben. You can see him reacting to it. I could not contain my giddiness~

“I sense the conflict in you. Its tearing you apart” says Rey, which is word for word what Kylo Ren says in TFA when he confesses to his father. Rey remembers and so do I! She tells him he will turn and he say she’ll turn too and stand by his side.

Who’s vision is right? His or Hers? Will he turn to the good? Will she turn to the dark? The most important thing to me is that they stay togehter!

Snoke still wants Skywalker and tortures Rey for the information finds out his location. Rey fights back, but Snoke is shown to be extremely strong by controlling Rey’s movements with a single flickers of his fingers. He places Rey infront of Kylo Ren and order’s his pupil to “fulfill your destiny”. Kylo picks up his lightsaber as Snoke reads out Kylo’s thoughts. He moves his lightsaber and at the same time Anakin’s, which is placed right besides Snoke. Then ignites Anakin’s lightsaber and slices Snoke in half. Finally breaking away from Snoke’s control. Kylo Ren has turned! I have been waiting 84 years for this moment.

Ben then gives Rey Anakin’s lightsaber and the two fight together. and. they. are. one. heck. of. a. team. Rey throwing the lightsaber to Ben and he ignites it to kill the gaurd strangling him. Chills!  I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. My favorite part is the look of concern on Kylo’s face when Rey gets injured. 

After decimating the guards, Rey’s first thoughts is to join the Resistance, but Kylo has a different agenda. He wants to rule as the new Supreme Leader. Offering Rey to join him and bring a new order.

“Join me... please”

Even saying it gently. I was so disappointed. I really thought he would start anew and leave everything behind instead of sticking with the First Order. But I guess that was my 2 year long expectations getting the best of me.

Rey rejects him and they fight, but again the setting they are in breaks (like TFA) since Holdo did a kamikaze using lightspeed to stop the FO from firing at the Resistance escape pods. 

Kylo Ren becomes Supreme Leader Kylo Ren and aims to deliver the last blow to the resistance. I have a few issues with the ending. Does he not sense his mother being there? Is it because she’s too weak? I hate that they glossed over that fact. 

Luke comes out of nowhere and stalls the First Order and Kylo Ren, so that the Resistance can escape. I noticed that he colored his beard, but did not anticipate the reveal. Luke on Crait was a Force projection that cost him his life. I made an ugly sound in the theatre when he disappeared and his cloak flew away. I couldn’t believe it! I was prepared for Leia’s death... not Luke’s! Now I understand why Mark Hamill was in disagreement with Rian Johnson! I should have read between the lines. I hate this! I am still not over it.

Rey joins the Resistance on Crait, reunites with Finn and helps the survivors onboard the Millennium Falcon to escape. Before closing the door behind her, she shares one last force bond with Kylo Ren.

Interesting! The forcebond still EXISTS after Snoke’s death. That will be awkward for them, but great for us.

On board the Millennium Falcon, Chewie and Leia hug. That was long overdue!

Also, Rey meets Poe. “I’m Rey” “I know”. Ever since reading TFA novelization, I wished they showed that in TFA. So glad they included it here. I have to admit their chemistry is good (side note I am a Damerey shipper too), but not as great as Reylo. 

Now finally the trio (Rey, Poe & Finn) are in the same place. I am looking forward to seeing them do something together in the next movie.

Overall, the movie is very enjoyable. It isn’t riddled with questions and mysteries like TFA. There are no big questions that will be analyzed to death. So we can take a breather, read a lot of forcebond fanfics and wait for the next movie.
