You were at a party with a few of your close friends. You weren't much into drinking so you stayed in the kitchen, munching on some snacks and talking to a few people, laughing at their drunken babbles. Eventually you got tired of talking and took a seat on one of the counters. As you were people watching you saw a very tall and very attractive man stroll into the kitchen. It looked like he was trying to find someone. You couldn't break your gaze on his, that was until....he made direct eye contact with you. Your eyes widen and you quickly looked down staring at your drink trying to make it seem like you totally were ogling over the boy. Suddenly you felt a presence next to you. You peaked under your hair to see the pretty boy sitting next to you. You pretended not to notice as you kept looking into your Coca Cola. "Not much of a drinker huh?" He asked "Me either. Never really understood why people made such a big deal over getting drunk and not remembering anything. It doesn't feel good." You let out a soft laugh still too embarrassed to look up at him. "My name's Hyunjin by the way." Finally looking up at him you smiled. "Nice to meet you im-" He cut you off. "(Y/n), right? The infamous heartbreaker of the school." Your smile dropped and your tone flattened. "Yeah... That's me alright." He pouted "Why so glum, gum drop? Not like your reputation?" "Well would you wanna be known for breaking peoples hearts?" He stayed silent, thinking. "I've had my own reputations. To be fair i don't even know what you did to for that to become your status so i couldn't judge you for it even if i wanted to." "Really? You don't know?" "Nah, i'm pretty new here. Started last week but if i would like to say that only talking to you for a few minutes, you really don't seem like someone who could even hurt a fly. Enlighten me, what gave you such a name as heartbreaker, sweetheart?"
"We just met and you're already interested in my life story?" "Well you seem like an interesting person and what else do we have to do at a party where everyone else is blasted out of their minds." "I guess you have a point...It all started my freshman year, for some reason there were a whole bunch of boys that kept asking me out and i would just simply say no, i never really knew any of them so why would i want to go out with them, you know? Well at some point later on i did finally ended up dating a guy, i liked him a lot...more than i care to admit but he broke my heart. I hated that feeling....that vulnerability, the weakness. So i vowed from that day that i would keep my armor up so i wouldn't have to deal with it. Anytime a boy would ask me out i would either laugh in their face and tell them to piss of or tell them yes then cancel a couple hours before the date. I guess i wanted them to feel an ounce of the pain i did, you know?" You looked over at the tall boy, he was listening to you very intently. "Well gum drop, sounds to me like you were just dealt a bad hand. I could tell just by looking at you that this whole heartbreaker status was a facade everyone put on you. How about this, give me your number okay? Before you say no, i'm not trying to be smooth and get you to go on a date with me, I just think you could use a friend who understands where you're coming from." "You know, that actually sounds kinda nice. Here." You passed him your phone. He quickly typed in his number and saved it under 'Heartbreaker 2.0' "You area actually gonna text me right? I don't want you disappear on me like you have others." He said teasing you. You rolled your eyes quickly send him a text saying 'hi.' your eyes flickered up to the name. "Heartbreaker 2.0?" You questioned. "That's a story for another time gum drop. I told you, you need a friend who understands." He smiled at someone in the crowed, you were guessing it was his friends. "i'll catch you later, yeah?" "For sure."
It had been a couple weeks since the party, you had told your friends about it. To say they freaked out was an understatement, one of them even claiming her cousin knew him and his reputation was terrible and that "you should steer clear from him." but you kept thinking back to that conversation..."You need a friend who understands" Maybe he was just as lost and misunderstood like you. You finally decided to go against your friends warnings. You grabbed your phone and punched in his contact name, sending him a text.
From you: Hey, you wanna like...hang out today?
To you: Sounds like fun, gum drop. Want me to pick you up?
From you: Yes please *insert address*
To you: Cool, give me like an hour and i'll be there.
For some reason you felt like you needed to dress cute, not because you had a crush or anything...no...never that.... though he was pretty hot and seemed really nice. You had quickly gotten ready, Wearing some vans, ripped jeans and a loose fitted shirt that clung barely in all the right spots. You straightened your hair and applied a light amount of makeup, not wanting it to seem like you were trying to hard to impress him. Once you had finished there was a honk outside your door. You grabbed your keys and wallet and headed out. There he was, leaned up against the passenger side door of his black el darado. Black boots, black jeans, white puffy button up shirt and to top it off a leather jacket, he had a sucker hanging from his lips. The typical bad boy look but damn did he really know how to pull it off "Hey gum drop, you ready to go?" You gulped a little and nodded, walking over to him. He opened the door for you and closed it once you got in, taking his place in the drivers seat. "Anywhere particularly you want to go?" "Not really, just anywhere but here." "I have the perfect place." He handed you his phone. "Here, pick some music, it'll be a bit before we get there." You were looking through his playlists of music, smiling to yourself. "Looks like we have the same taste in music." You picked Monsta x's queen and set his phone in the cup holder. "That just means this friendship will last." He turned the volume up to almost full blast, dropped the soft top and rolled the windows down. "Lets get out of here."
You were in the car for almost two hours, blasting music, screaming to it at the top of your lungs. Laughing and having the best time of your life. You eventually turned onto a little side road, it was quite a dead area. "Hey Hyunjin?" "What's up butter cup?" He looked over at you with a dopey grin. "There's something i've always wanted to do in this type of car....Would you speed up?" "With pleasure." He stepped on the gas, zooming down the road. You unbuckled your seat belt and carfully stood up sitting on the back of the seat, raising your hands to the sky, feeling the wind whip through your hair, you leaned your head back, it was such a free feeling. Hyunjin was looking at your through the rearveiw mirror, he couldn't help but smile to himself, he'd never seen someone look so effortlessly beautiful. You laughed and let out a scream of joy before plopping back to your original spot. "Was it everything you ever dreamed of?" "That and more." He slowed to a stop at an field, the only thing there was a playground, empty as could be and looked like it hadn't been touched in years. "Where are we?" You asked as he turned off the car and got out. This is where i  come when i feel like i don’t belong anywhere else. You got out as well following him to the rusted play set. He took a seat on one of the swings motioning for you to take the one next to him. "So why exactly did you bring me here?" "Well i did tell you that i'd tell you my story too didn't i? This is a big piece of it." "Okay.....go ahead, i'm all ears."
"There was a girl i grew up with, we would hang out all day everyday, from school to sleep overs we were constantly together, as we grew older i...i fell in love with her. She was my whole world, I had finally had the guts to ask her out so i brought her here. This is where we had first met, where we played and hung out until ungodly hours of the night. Spilling out secretes and deepest fears. I thought it would be the perfect place to do it. When i asked her she was so happy, i didn't think i could fall any harder for her once she said yes. from 8th grade all the way up until the middle of Junior year. We were fighting a lot, over stupid little things. She would claim i was too clingy and she needed space or that i was so annoying that she didn't even know why she agreed to date me in the first place. It hurt a lot. I had caught her texting some other guys at one point and that was the biggest downfall. We screamed at each other for hours...She called me terrible things and i'll admit, i said some worse things to her that i wish i could take back." His voice began to shake. "So we broke up. She decided to spread an awful roomer about me that all i ever wanted her was her body...there is more to it but i wont go into that." That roomer spread like wild fire. People kept adding onto it saying i would try to hook up with them or i did and just left them in the dust and broken hearted. Seeing as how i was never going to get out of it i played into it, changing my appearance and attitude towards people. Acting like i didn't give a shit about anyone. It followed me up until i started college, from there it got worse. So i decided to transfer to a new one hoping to get away from all of it but it followed me here too. As soon as i got here i heard the roomers about you too, Like i said when i first saw you i knew that wasn't what you were like so i figured it would be the perfect opportunity to make a friend who i could hopefully be myself around." You could see the tears streaming down his face as he was holding the pole in between you too, rubbing his thumb across an engraving. It was initials surrounded in a heart. "The worst part about this whole thing is deep down, i still care about her way more than i should even thought i desperately want to hate her." Without a second thought you stood up and went around him, wrapping your arms around his back, resting your cheek against his shoulder blade. Words weren't needed in this conversation, It just simply needed comfort.
Ever since the day at the park the two of you were inseparable. Between the late night trips to the store for snacks and early morning breakfast runs. There wasn't a time when you two weren't seen together. Of course as you two had you're own reputations, roomers had started about you as well, but the two of you really didn't care anymore. You were happy in each others presence and couldn't be bothered to care about anyone else and their opinions. It was incredible how well the two of you clicked, you grew so close so fast. Almost like you couldn't remember a day where he wasn't around. You never really talked to your other "friends" anymore for the simple fact of them making rude comments and being disgusted towards Hyunjin as well as making assumption about you too. You had later found out they were one of the biggest causes of your roomers. Did you really care anymore though? No. You were never close with them anyway. You were basically just an extra person to carry around their stuff.
You were currently at Hyunjins place playing Mario Kart. It was very intense, constantly shouting at each other, throwing food and claiming the other most definitely cheated. "YOU REALLY THREW 3 BANNANS IN A ROW JUST TO PASS ME FOR S E V E N T H PLACE?" The boy yelled "YOU'RE DANG RIGHT I DID, I'M ONLY PLAYING TO BEAT YOU, NOT EVERYONE ELSE!" He tossed his controller too the ground and tackled you, tickling your sides. You squealed trying to shove him off. "No s-stop please ahh!!!" You were laughing so hard you snorted. He stopped all movement. "That was the cutest sound I've ever heard." You covered your face in embarrassment "Oh my gosh, no. Shut up!" "Don't cover your face!!!" He grabbed your hands and pulled them away, holding them to the floor. It felt like the world had stopped, you were staring into each others eyes, no movement, no sound. Only the two of you. He leaned closer, you could feel his breath against your lips. "uh, Hyunjin? What are yo-" You were cut off by his lips pressing against yours. You were frozen, you didn't know what to do...Kiss back? Push him off? Just stay there? He jumped off of you. "Oh-oh gosh im so sorry, i-i didn't mean to, i was just caught in the moment. Im sorry." You cleared your throat and stood up. "Maybe i should go home." "O-okay, let me drive you at least?" "No, its fine. I'd like to walk, i'll catch you later." You grabbed your things and stepped outside. As soon as you closed the door you heard a crash. "AH HYUNJIN WHY ARE YOU SUCH AN IDIOT?" You heard him yell. You wanted to go back inside and tell him it was okay, you were just nervous and didn't know how to react but you were too scared. You just went home and straight to bed.
The next day you saw him in the hallway on the way to your lecture. His hands were bandaged and he looked exhausted. You wanted nothing more than to go over and hug him but as soon as he saw you he walked the other directions. Your heart broke a little inside. Days went by and you still haven't talked, you've texted him and called him but he never replied or answered. Days turned to weeks and still nothing. He was completely avoiding you.
You were sitting at home in sweats watching a sappy romcom about best friends falling in love while eating a huge tub of your favorite ice cream. You had been doing a lot of thinking the past weeks, cursing yourself for not kissing him back. You realized you had feelings for him, his kind nature, his stupid jokes and cute little giggle. You missed everything about it. As you were about to put your ice cream away and go to bed you heard a knock on your door. Hesitantly you walked over to it and looked through the people. It was Hyunjin, he was dressed in the same attire as when you first hung out. You wrapped your hand around the knob ready to rip it open and hug him but he hurt you....why would you give in so easily. Instead you rested your head on the door and talked to him through it. "What do you want?" You spoke in a colder tone than you had meant to. "(y/n) I just want to talk and apologize, most importantly explain why I've been avoiding you...." "Then say it from there." You felt tears brimming in your eyes." "I think it's better to say this face to face." You took a deep breath before slowly opening the door, using every ounce of your power to hold back your tears. "You have 5 minutes. Speak."
"I’m sorry, i’m so sorry. I don't know what possessed me to throw myself on you like that." He paused "Actually i do, i know it's not something i should say while you're mad at me but i need to get it out. I like you (y/n)...I like you a lot and i couldn't help myself. Being so close to you, you looked so pretty and i....im sorry. I should have taken your feelings into account over mine. I just...there's something about you. I've never felt so myself around someone and i don't want to loose that but i understand if you don't want to see me anymore. As for avoiding you, i was trying to straighten out my head and figure out if i should come talk to you and pour my heart out to you or just let you go and let you live your life but I've come to the conclusion that i didn't want to go on regretting not telling you how i felt."
He dropped his head, fidgeting with his hands. It was silent for a moment. "Please (y/n) say something...anything." "Hwang Hyunjin, you're an absolute idiot." "I-...I deserved that." "But you're also not the only one to blame here....I feel the same way about you. I was just as scared to tell you as you were to tell me. In fear i'd loose having such a great friend by my side." He looked up at you with a smile. "Does this mean i’m forgiven?" You rolled your eyes. "No but it's a start. Let’s just take it slow.”
Months later the two of you found yourself at the same park as before. Hyunjin was acting a little weirder than normal, he just seemed...anxious. As the two of you placed yourselves on your selected swings he began to speak. “So i did bring you here for a reason...” “I assumed so, we only come here when there’s something important to talk about, dork.” You teased trying to lighten the mood. It didn’t help, “(Y/n) This is serious. This place is important to me, It’s been the most stable place in my life.” “Sorry...” Your eyes ventured to the pole seeing that the engravings were crossed and above it were knew ones. “(y/f/i) + H?” Isn’t that our initials?” “Yeah...i..i know it may seem like an jerk thing to do and it’s not like i want to replace my old memories here because they’re apart of who i am no and part of what lead me to you..I want to make new and better ones with the girl i’m head over heels in love with. (y/n) i brought you here to tell that i love you and i wanted to ask.” He stood up and moved in front of your swing grabbing on the chains to stop you from moving. “Would you make me oh so happy and be my girl friend? If you say now i might just cry but i’ll suffer with being your friend” “How many times am i gonna have to call you in idiot?” You stood up head tiled towards him so you could actually see his face. “I love you too and of course i’ll be your girlfriend.” “I guess no tears from me then huh?” He grinned as he picked you up into his arms and kissed you. “I can’t wait to make better memories with my favorite person in my favorite place.”
