Each month I want to share a fic that I've read and adored. This month's fic is:
Shy of a Spark by Elorianna
[Mature, 39,986 words, Miles Kane/Alex Turner]
The Arctic Monkeys are about to play Glastonbury, their biggest gig yet, and Alex is struggling with stage fright. Fortunately for him, he has Miles to help him feel braver, and with his best friend by his side, surely nothing can go wrong.
Except that now it's the day of the show, Miles is acting strange, and the gig is no longer the only thing giving Alex stage fright. With the hours racing past, will he get his head in the game in time for their headline performance? And will he find a way to be brave, in more ways than one?
Why I love this fic: I loved the setting of this fic, all the emotions between Alex and Miles, and the way the others already knew and were doing their best to be supportive. I liked that Alex and Miles see each other as a hero and the way they had to struggle to figure things out but how they got there in the end.

Note
for the writing ask game: 21 and 24 for 'This Is Going To Hurt', 23, 40, 42, 48, 49 🥰
(sorry if that's a lot sjdjsjfk i just love reading people answers' to these games)
Thank you! 😘💖
21. If you wrote a “missing scene” in This Is Going To Hurt, what would it be?
I actually started writing a semi-sequel with Miles waiting for Alex to come out of surgery and being there when he first wakes up in a delirious, lovestruck state. I gave up on it pretty quickly though - it was becoming rather bloated and I just couldn't motivate myself to write it, which is a shame as I'm a sucker for the 'worried boyfriend waits by his lover's hospital bed' trope 😅
24. Are there any easter eggs in This Is Going To Hurt, and if so, what are they?
Not so much TLSP Easter Eggs (not that I can remember anyway!) but setting the story in Scotland felt a bit like a personal Easter Egg, and some of the healthcare workers (particularly Roisin and Aileen the Charge Nurse) were loosely based on some of my awesome colleagues 😊
23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?
I'm definitely not smart enough to pull this off, but a Groundhog Day Milex AU is something I wish I could write one day (with poor Alex stuck reliving his day over and over again of course... I really do need to stop torturing that poor boy). Either that or something with an element of magical realism would be fun!
40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?
I love revisiting fics I particularly love, though I try to restrain myself from doing it too often so they don't lose their magic 😅
42. Have you ever received a comment that particularly stood out to you for whatever reason?
It's hard to pick out just one, but I honestly think the nicest, most thoughtful and detailed comments I've ever gotten have come from readers and fellow writers in the Milex community. People like yourself, @alexturne, @elorianna, @lanatural-books and @rock-n-roll-fantasy are the best readers any writer could ask for and all of your comments have made my day many times over 💖
48. What’s the last fic you read? Do you recommend it?
I haven't had much time to read fic in the past week or so, but I've loved catching up with @alexturne's beautiful Big Bang fic 'my heart melted in the heat' which I absolutely do recommend. It's an adorable delight!
49. What are you currently working on? Share a few lines if you’re up for it!
I'm not actively working on anything at the moment, but I am considering a short epilogue/tie-in fic to 'I'll See You On The Dark Side Of The Moon' (featuring Brian the Squirrel of course). Whether I'll have time to write it remains to be seen, but I'm playing around with some ideas 😊
