#i SUPER respect whoever played him in the 1936 version but he comes off as a bit more rigid/awkward imo. it’s there but not entirely

i cant tell if im fixating on I Am a Cat but if i am that’s just. hilarious.
anyways im so glad sneaze and waverhouse are both played by famous japanese actors in the 1975 movie it’s what they deserve
#im going to refer to their movie characters as sensei kushami & meitei respectively from now on BUT#such a huge fan of the castings in both the 1936 and 1975 movies. i mostly prefer 1975’s#because tatsuya nakadai’s kushami is perfectly grumpy AND pathetically sad when need be#and juzo itami as meitei is just 👌👌 amazing delivery#i SUPER respect whoever played him in the 1936 version but he comes off as a bit more rigid/awkward imo. it’s there but not entirely#whereas 1975 meitei wonderfully captures the airiness and seamlessness of his web of lies and cockiness#i do wish they included more of his badgering/criticisms like of coldmoon during the lecture practice. bring back his pretentiousness#so in that vein he’s more like a fun/eccentric uncle But i should note i have yet to finish either movies#because i haven’t finished the book yet! but im getting very close so i can’t wait#kaye reads i am a cat#(just adding to liveblog tag)#omg sorry for all the -nesses i wrote a lot for an essay earlier and it’s rotted my brain
