wait whaaaat? you can get a copyright strike on Etsy for fandom stuff? 😟
absolutely :') i've been bonked a few times about it and LUCKILY i'm okay but at any minute someone from the animation studios/representatives of them could come after me for it again. it's a huge risk for anyone who sells on any website for fandom stuff.. even if they have their own website. some of these lawyers will literally do searches of the anime/show names and issue takedowns/warnings.
f*nimation is one of the worst about it, even more so bc they own SO MANY IPS. i haven't had this happen to me personaly but sometimes they can go to the point of issuing fines and/or demanding you destroy the products of those ips... hell they can sue you too. unfortunately, most fanartists don't hold any rights over fanwork so it's always a possibility to get their stuff taken down :( that's why you might see a lot of them not use the character's/anime's actual names
it's even worse with western media too. i wanted to make baldur's gate 3 merchandise but larian studios was like "yeah no don't do that" (mainly bc wotc are fucking CUNTS about this kind of stuff so LOL) even some conventions will ban you from selling specific IPs, and will note your booth if you decide to sell it anyway... it really sucks LOL bc id argue fancontent is the backbone of a lot of media but YEAHHHHHHHHHHH
#its not gaurunteed youll get a bonk but there's a chance#i was so mad the first time it happened to me bc i literally JUST started out selling#meanwhile the dropshipper tracing manga panels still has thousands of sales and is still fine#the irony is just...silly lol#but yeah UNLESS YOU'RE HOYOVERSE#hyv allows selling of fanworks legally :) which is why its so prominent among fanartists
