The Autistic Self Advocacy Network urges the Senate not to confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Kennedy’s long record of spreading misinformation about autism in particular and public health in general makes him a disastrous choice for this role. His opposition to life-saving vaccines, his belief that HIV may not cause AIDS, his desire to increase the use of quack autism “treatments” and his comments about putting people taking psychiatric medication in labor camps should all be immediately disqualifying. Autistic people, the disability community, and the nation’s public health will all suffer if he is confirmed.
Vaccines save lives
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the founder of Children’s Health Defense, a prominent anti-vaccine group. He has claimed that no vaccine has been proven safe and effective, that the recommended vaccine schedule for children is dangerous, and that “autism does come from vaccines.”  He has also fought against COVID-19 vaccination, falsely calling an early COVID vaccine “the deadliest vaccine ever made.”
Vaccines are safe and effective. Vaccines do not cause autism. The idea that the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is linked to autism comes from one fraudulent 1998 publication claiming that the vaccine had caused autistic traits in 12 children. The man responsible for this publication, Andrew Wakefield, used unethical methods and failed to disclose financial conflicts of interest. The paper did not give enough evidence for its claim that the MMR vaccine could cause autism. It was later retracted by the journal that published it, and Wakefield had his medical license revoked.
In spite of the fraudulent origins of the idea that vaccines cause autism, and in spite of decades of replicable research proving that this is not true, some people, like Kennedy, continue to perpetuate the myth. These lies do very real harm to the autistic community. Kennedy has described autistic people in insulting ways meant to inspire fear, saying that “their brain is gone” and that the purported effects of vaccination are “a Holocaust.” By working to prevent childhood vaccination, he effectively communicates the message that living as an autistic person is a worse fate than dying of measles or pertussis.
The anti-vaccine movement has led to a wave of fake “autism cures,” many of which have very real health risks. Kennedy recently promoted two of these fake cures when he accused the FDA of suppressing “hyperbaric therapies, chelating compounds.” Hyperbaric therapy, a treatment for decompression sickness in divers, has been promoted as a fake autism cure in spite of a complete lack of evidence and associated health risks. Chelation, a treatment for heavy metal poisoning, is another fake cure, and its off-label use for autism has been associated with at least one death.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his allies claim that autistic people did not exist in his youth and that “I have never in my life seen a man my age with full-blown autism.” The idea that autistic people of Kennedy’s age (70) do not exist is not true. Autistic people have always been here, but before widespread autism diagnosis, we either went undiagnosed, or received different diagnoses than would be used today — for example, the outdated diagnosis of “childhood schizophrenia” for autism, or diagnosing people who today would only have an autism diagnosis with intellectual disability. Autistic people in Kennedy’s generation were all too often institutionalized or incarcerated. Even if Kennedy is telling the truth about not seeing us, that does not mean we were not there.
Of course, Kennedy’s lies about vaccines do not just hurt autistic people. Kennedy and his nonprofit played an active role in a recent measles outbreak in American Samoa, spreading vaccine misinformation until the vaccination rate dropped low enough that 5,700 people were infected with measles, and 83 people died. Kennedy has also made false claims about COVID-19 vaccine trials and about the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, blaming unrelated deaths on COVID vaccinations. Anti-vaccine misinformation like that promoted by Kennedy’s group has led to a reduced rate of childhood vaccinations in the United States since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lies about public health endanger everyone
Kennedy has taken other stances on public health, also based on misinformation, that disproportionately harm disabled people. He has opposed COVID-19 vaccination when people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are at risk for worse outcomes if we get COVID. He wants to take fluoride out of drinking water, making everyone’s dental health worse, when people with IDD have worse dental health outcomes to begin with. He opposes the use of medication for ADHD in spite of research demonstrating that these medications are safe and can prevent deaths among people who take them. He has falsely linked antidepressants, which for many people are life-saving medication, to mass shootings. None of these beliefs are based on evidence, and all of them would make terrible public health policy.
Kennedy’s fringe beliefs have led him to propose some truly disturbing disability policies. Notably, he has discussed sending people who struggle with addiction or take psychiatric medications to “wellness farms,” where they could labor for several years and would be forbidden to use cell phones. In the autism community, we have seen farms promoted as a housing solution before, and we recognize this idea for what it is: a proposal to institutionalize the 16% of Americans who take psychiatric medication and the 16% of Americans who struggle with substance use.
Kennedy’s commitment to spreading misinformation about public health extends beyond developmental disability. He claims that drinking raw milk has health benefits at a time when bird flu is spreading and foodborne diseases like listeria are becoming more common. He has suggested that AIDS may not be caused by HIV, and has participated in transphobic fear-mongering by claiming that chemicals in drinking water may change children’s gender identity. Once again, there is no evidence for any of these beliefs.
We should never take “a break” from public health
At an anti-vaccine conference last year, Kennedy said that if he became President, he would tell the National Institutes of Health, “Thank you for public service. We’re going to give infectious disease a break for about eight years.” Instead, he pledged to focus NIH’s efforts entirely on chronic disease like diabetes. Pivoting government research away from infectious diseases during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic would have disastrous consequences. And Kennedy’s claim that he will focus on chronic disease is short-sighted — chronic disease is often caused or worsened by infectious diseases like COVID. Diseases don’t take a break from threatening our lives and health, and we shouldn’t take a break from trying to prevent and mitigate diseases.
The worst public health harms in US history have been inflicted on marginalized communities when our public health systems “took a break” from protecting us. In the same way, marginalized communities would bear the brunt of a decision to abandon HHS’ responsibility to study infectious diseases.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. promotes policies that will actively harm the health of all Americans. He intends to twist the federal agencies in charge of our health into engines of misinformation. We are dismayed by his nomination not only as self-advocates and professionals in health policy, but also as human beings who want our government to safeguard our health and embrace science. The Senate must not confirm Kennedy as Secretary of HHS.
The Autistic Self Advocacy Network seeks to advance the principles of the disability rights movement with regard to autism. ASAN believes that the goal of autism advocacy should be a world in which autistic people enjoy equal access, rights, and opportunities. We work to empower autistic people across the world to take control of our own lives and the future of our common community, and seek to organize the autistic community to ensure our voices are heard in the national conversation about us. Nothing About Us, Without Us!

At his rally on Sunday at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, former president and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said that if elected he would allow wellness conspiracist and anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to “go wild on health.” Kennedy, a former Democrat and scion of the famous political family, initially ran as an independent third-party and potential spoiler candidate, and has spent the better part of two decades spreading conspiracy theories that would likely inform the policies of a Trump administration.
In August, Kennedy suspended his presidential campaign and threw his weight behind Trump. (Both the Trump and Kennedy campaigns received support from billionaire donor Timothy Mellon.) There were early indications that he might have a place in a possible Trump administration, particularly in some areas focused on health. Kennedy himself even created a spinoff of Trump’s MAGA slogan with his own Make America Healthy Again, or MAHA. But Trump’s speech seems to indicate that Kennedy would indeed have a place in the cabinet, perhaps running Health and Human Services (HHS).
Kennedy has since hit the campaign trail stumping for Trump alongside another former Democrat and conspiracy theorist, Tulsi Gabbard.
Kennedy has spent years spreading health mis- and disinformation, particularly about vaccines. In 2014, Kennedy joined Children’s Health Defense (CHD) as a member of its board. CHD pushes debunked conspiracy theories linking conditions like autism with vaccines and other environmental factors. In 2021, Meta banned Kennedy’s Instagram account for spreading disinformation about the Covid-19 vaccine, and he was named by the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) as one of 12 people responsible for 65 percent of vaccine disinformation across Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, Kennedy’s own profile, as well as that of CHD, began to rise. CHD raised more money in 2021 than it ever had before.
Meta reinstated Kennedy’s Instagram account last year when he announced his run for the presidency, and it remains up, despite the fact that he is no longer running for office. CHD remains banned from Meta’s platforms. More recently, Kennedy has echoed unfounded conspiracies that could undermine faith in the integrity of the 2024 elections.
During his presidential campaign, Kennedy tried to distance himself from the anti-vax movement. Still, he continued to spread disinformation, like falsely saying that the Biden administration had violated the Nuremburg Code by mandating vaccines. And his vision for making America healthy again is drastic. Last Friday, he posted on X to warn the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that its “aggressive suppression of psychedelics, peptides, stem cells, raw milk, hyperbaric therapies, chelating compounds, ivermectin, [and] hydroxychloroquine” was about to end.
The Department of Health and Human Services oversees 13 agencies, including the FDA and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In an interview with NBC News while he was still running for president, Kennedy said he would gut those agencies, which he has said are now captured by corporations. He would also impose more testing on already existing vaccines, which health experts told NBC would result in many children being unable to get vaccinated. (Trump, for his part, has claimed he would withhold funding from schools that require vaccination.) Kennedy’s plan would also include dismissing scientists at the NIH who study infectious diseases, focusing instead on the environmental factors and vaccines that he believes cause illnesses.
During his campaign, he held a health policy roundtable with doctors that pushed fake Covid-19 treatments.
Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung told WIRED that “President Trump announced a Trump-Vance transition leadership group to initiate the process of preparing for what comes after the election. But formal discussions of who will serve in a second Trump Administration is [sic] premature.”

Is HBOT Therapy Right for You? A Comprehensive Guide to Treatment
Oxygen is an inevitable vital for human survival. The air that you breathe daily is a homogenous mixture of many gaseous substances, such as nitrogen (N2) 78%, oxygen (O2) 21%, 1% other gases, and water vapor. The nitrogen, when breathed, does not participate in respiration and comes out as it is. Of the 21% oxygen, 16% is exhaled back with an additional 4% carbon dioxide. Only the amount of oxygen needed is retained in the body.
Tumblr media
What is HBOT?
HBOT, or hyperbaric oxygen therapy, is the treatment of 97% to 100% oxygen filled in a specialized hitech oxygen chamber at an air pressure of 1.5 to 2 times the usual. This therapy allows the individual to breathe in pure oxygen under pressure. As per Boyle’s law, the oxygen molecules become smaller under hyperbaric pressure making it more soluble. In the case of tissue injuries, the oxygen molecules dissolved in the plasma and other body fluids are directly responsible for formation of new blood vessels and the growth of new tissues. It has several other benefits that we will discuss further in this blog post. The agency of food and drug administration (FDA) of United states (USA) has cleared the use of HBOT as safe and effective. HBOT Therapy treatment started in the 1940s to treat the decompression sickness of deep-sea divers of the U.S. Navy. At the primary stages, the HBOT was also used to treat carbon monoxide poisoning. The scope of using Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy has broadened over time.
How is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy helpful?
• HBOT fills your blood with a significantly high amount of oxygen, making it reach the remotest tissues and cells of the body. • Increased oxygen in the blood boosts the wound healing of surgical procedures, infected wounds, skin grafts, burns, and crush injuries and non-healing amputation stump. • It stimulates the production of collagen protein, which is the primary building block of our skin, muscles, bones, ligaments, and many other connective tissues. • HBOT can prevent severe tissue damage to oxygen-deprived tissues. • It also increases the body’s resistance to infections and blocks harmful bacteria. • HBOT also helps in treating radiation injuries, such as the damage after radiation therapy for treating cancer. • In HBOT chamber, 60 times more oxygen is dissolved in plasma & body fluids.
What diseases can be treated by HBOT?
Hyperbaric chamber treatment can help in treating the following medical conditions:
• Ortho-general diseases like diabetic foot, necrotizing fasciitis, compartment syndrome, pressure ulcers and Gas Gangrene. • Neurological diseases like head injuries, Stroke, Autism, intracranial abscess, cerebral palsy, spinal cord contusion, Trigeminal neuralgia and Bell’s palsy. • Ophthalmological diseases like central retinal artery occlusion (sudden vision loss) and Optic neuritis. • Oncological conditions like Post radiation cystitis, post radiation proctitis, mandibular osteoradionecrosis, prophylactic HBOT before radiation treatment and post radiation non healing wounds. • ENT conditions like sudden sensorineural hearing loss, malignant
HBOT and Sahaj Hospital
Sahaj Hospital has always been ahead in technology and has been providing accommodation for hyperbaric oxygen therapy since 2020, soon after the introduction of the COVID-19 virus. Currently, Sahaj is having a monobaric unit of hi-tech and comfortable hyperbaric oxygen chamber. It has been placed in a dedicated and sophisticated place for safety purposes where the attendants are allowed to observe the patient.
Sahaj has done more than 1000+ cases of HBOT until now.
We will now answer some FAQs about the accommodation of Hyperbaric Chamber treatment.
How many sessions of HBOT can I take in a month?
The number of sessions may vary depending on the condition being treated.
What are some pre-HBOT precautions?
You must not carry anything that contains flammable things, lighters, matches, or anything with batteries or gases.
- Wear 100% cotton clothes because it doesn’t generate static electricity to reduce the risk of sparks and fire.
- Avoid drinking alcohol or carbonated drinks before the treatment.
- Avoid if you have flu or a cold.
- No mobile phones, watches, glasses, contacts, or jewelry are allowed inside the chamber.
What is the duration of an HBOT therapy session?
The usual duration of an HBOT session is 60–70 minutes or more, depending on the plan.
Can people with asthma take HBOT?
Yes, if the condition is not chronic; it depends on the patient’s condition and physical fitness.
Can pregnant women take HBOT?
HBOT therapy is not recommended for pregnant women considering the complications that may occur due to the pressure of the chamber.
What are the side effects of the HBOT therapy?
There are usually no side effects but mild clogging of the ear or nose; the effects may vary person to person.
Can my ears rupture under the pressure of an HBOT chamber?
The HBOT is done under careful supervision and examination, so the chances are too slim to consider.
What malfunctions may occur during the HBOT therapy?
Sahaj uses flagship-level high-end machines, so there is nearly no scope for malfunctions.
Can people with claustrophobia take the HBOT therapy?
People with claustrophobia may have trouble facing the closed chamber. But at Sahaj, acutely feared people can take HBOT as the upper half of the chamber is transparent and see through.
What precautions should be kept in mind after an HBOT session?
Nothing as such; you may get back to your usual lifestyle after the sessions.
What are the chances of getting oxygen toxicity during HBOT sessions?
Oxygen toxicity is taking too much highly concentrated oxygen which may happen in sessions too long in rare cases, we limit our sessions to 60–70 minutes which is too far from being risky.
What are the emergency protocols for HBOT treatment?
The HBOT chamber comes with an accessible emergency switch that can be pressed from inside. The chamber room as well is equipped with disaster management for electric and fire hazards, limiting the chances of any unfortunate disaster to zero.
Do we cover insurance?
Yes, HBOT therapy is covered depending on your disease, if HBOT is prescribed by your doctor and if it is covered by your insurance at the same time. It depends on your policy terms and conditions. Most insurances cover the FDA approved 14 defined conditions and many more off label conditions that your insurance may or may not cover.

Early Signs of Autism in Children: What to Look For
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) presents with a variety of signs and symptoms that can manifest in early childhood. Recognizing these signs early can lead to timely interventions and support, which can significantly impact a child's development. Here are some key early signs of autism in children to look out for:
Social Interaction Difficulties
Limited Eye Contact: Children may avoid making eye contact or have difficulty maintaining it.
Lack of Response to Name: They might not respond when called by their name, even if they appear to hear other sounds.
Reduced Social Smiles: Less frequent smiling in social situations.
Preference for Solitude: A tendency to play alone rather than with others.
Difficulty Understanding Emotions: Challenges in understanding and expressing emotions, both their own and others'.
Communication Challenges
Delayed Speech Development: Not babbling by 12 months, speaking single words by 16 months, or two-word phrases by 24 months.
Echolalia: Repeating words or phrases instead of using typical language.
Limited Gestures: Few or no gestures, such as pointing, waving, or nodding.
Difficulty with Conversations: Challenges in starting or sustaining a conversation.
Repetitive Behaviors
Repetitive Movements: Hand-flapping, rocking, spinning, or other repetitive actions.
Ritualistic Behaviors: Insistence on specific routines or rituals and becoming upset with changes.
Focused Interests: Intense focus on specific topics or objects, sometimes to the exclusion of other activities.
Sensory Sensitivities
Overreaction to Sounds: Being overly sensitive to noises or conversely, seeming not to notice certain sounds.
Unusual Sensory Interests: Fascination with lights, spinning objects, or other visual stimuli.
Sensitivity to Touch: Aversion to certain textures of clothing or foods.
Developmental Milestones
Motor Skill Delays: Delay in milestones like crawling, walking, or other motor skills.
Lack of Imitation: Limited interest in imitating actions of others, such as clapping or waving.
What to Do If You Notice These Signs
If you observe any of these signs in your child, consider taking the following steps:
Consult a Pediatrician: Share your observations with your child's doctor. They can conduct initial screenings and refer you to specialists if needed.
Seek Early Intervention: Early intervention services can provide therapies and support to help your child develop essential skills.
Educate Yourself: Learn about autism and available resources. Knowledge can empower you to advocate for your child's needs.
Connect with Support Networks: Engage with support groups and other parents for shared experiences and advice.
Explore Therapies: Investigate various therapies, such as Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), which some parents and practitioners have explored for managing autism symptoms, though it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional about its appropriateness and effectiveness.
Early identification and intervention are crucial for helping children with autism reach their full potential. By recognizing the signs and taking proactive steps, you can provide your child with the support they need to thrive.

Neuroplasticity and Autism Treatments
Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to adapt to environmental influence and stressful situations. It relates to the way our brain receives, transmits and processes information. Ideally, the brain should process information appropriately for optimal brain health and function including, memory input, emotional find out more here control, and self-regulation. However, in various neurological disorders like autism these control mechanisms do not function properly.
The process of neuroplasticity also involves gene expression (for cellular function and cell response), neurogenesis (for nerve growth and development), structural changes (for proper brain volume which is critical for proper function), and synaptogenesis (for optimal nerve cell connection and communication). Again, when there is malfunction in the communication network of the brain we have problems, i.e. autism, depression, mood disorders and other neurological disorders.
Neuroplasticity depends on various chemical mediators for brain function to work properly. Growth factors and hormones play an important role in the brain and nervous system. In autism, certain areas of the brain are often impaired leading to problems in emotional control, memory, learning capacity, and perceptions. The hippocampus (involved in short to long-term memory processing and spatial navigation which helps with memory of surrounding environment), and amygdala (involved in emotional memory, mood, etc.) are part of the limbic system. When this area of the limbic brain is impaired emotional instability, poor self-regulation, self-stimulatory behaviors and rigidity in thought and behavior can become manifest – all characteristics of autism.
Another area of dysfunction is the prefrontal cortex which is involved in decision making and short-term memory. The inability of these brain regions to synchronize appropriately adds to the behavior and cognitive problems prevalent in autism. However, through neuroplasticity the brain can adapt and change and improvements can be seen in many individuals on the autism-spectrum undergoing consistent autism treatments such as biomedical intervention including diet, supplements, methylation (Methyl-B12), respen-A, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and others. The principles of neuroplasticity are also utilized by therapist working on the core behavioral and social issues of those with autism as well.
Newer therapeutic approaches have stressed the need to look beyond just the manipulation of brain chemistry such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. Although, medicinal therapy can be useful as autism treatment at times to shift neurotransmitter levels, working on changing brain function and structure is more ideal through the natural process of neuroplasticity. Research has shown that repetitive training can be extremely beneficial in autism. Therapies such as behavioral modification, occupational therapy, and speech therapy are classically employed as programs for autistic individuals. Additional therapies such as floortime, hippotherapy (equine based), social groups, auditory, vision, and music therapy, etc. are also useful in attempts to induce new and appropriate changes in the brain. The key element for all of these autism treatments is repetition and consistency overtime to help increase new neural connections and pathways for improved and synchronized brain function.

Autism and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Unmasking the 'Snake Oil' Claims, http://selflessanatta.com/autism-and-hyperbaric-oxygen-therapy-unmasking-the-snake-oil-claims/
New Post has been published on http://selflessanatta.com/autism-and-hyperbaric-oxygen-therapy-unmasking-the-snake-oil-claims/
Autism and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Unmasking the 'Snake Oil' Claims
The US Food and Drug Administration has published a warning for parents to beware of false or misleading claims about HBOT for treating autism.
I know a family who purchased a hyperbaric oxygen chamber for their home to treat their son with autism.
It was expensive. A cheap one costs about $10,000, and some go as high as $40,000. Desperate parents are easily swayed into purchasing the more expensive models.
They did their research, which meant they went to Google and absorbed the various snake oil sales pitches. When they saw doctors who touted scientific studies backing their dubious claims, they were convinced the therapy had promise.
It did nothing.
At first, the imagined improvements strengthened their belief that they had found the cure. Their son’s health appeared better; they noticed more eye contact, and they believed he was on the mend.
Confirmation bias works that way.
They told their friends and other parents about their great discovery and their hopes for a “cure” to their son’s autism.
However, when they asked the specialists and therapists who worked with their son regularly about his progress, none reported any significant change.
After a few months, their enthusiasm waned, and they began questioning whether or not this was a cure.
They maintained their belief that the procedure improved his health for many more months, mostly as a way of rationalizing they made the right decision in purchasing the hyperbaric oxygen chamber and putting their son in it daily.
However, the objective reality was ultimately undeniable.
They purchased the chamber to cure their son. They kept it because they believed it improved his health. When they finally accepted that it made no difference, they were shattered.
They were heartbroken for two reasons.
One, they believed erroneously that they could transform their non-neurotypical son into what they wanted him to be. Their dreams of a perfect son were revealed as illusions.
Two, they were embarrassed because they told so many people, and convinced other parents of the efficacy of a treatment that turned out to be snake oil.
They certainly were not alone. It’s a trap nearly every special needs parent falls into, me included.
See: Snake Oil and Autism: The Truth About Autism Cure Scams
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a well-established treatment for decompression sickness, a condition sometimes caused by surfacing too quickly when scuba diving.
According to the Mayo Clinic, other conditions treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy include:
Serious infections.
Bubbles of air in blood vessels.
Wounds that may not heal because of diabetes or radiation injury.
Notice that curing autism is missing from this list.
In a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, the air pressure is increased 2 to 3 times higher than normal air pressure. Under these conditions, your lungs can gather much more oxygen than would be possible by breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure.
This extra oxygen helps fight bacteria. It also triggers the release of substances called growth factors and stem cells, which promote healing.
Studies of hyperbaric oxygen therapy as a treatment for autism
A study from 2009 makes bold claims about helping autism, Hyperbaric treatment for children with autism: a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, controlled trial.
After 40 sessions, mean physician CGI scores significantly improved in the treatment group compared to controls in overall functioning (p = 0.0008), receptive language (p < 0.0001), social interaction (p = 0.0473), and eye contact (p = 0.0102); 9/30 children (30%) in the treatment group were rated as “very much improved” or “much improved”…
Sounds great, doesn’t it?
These snake oil salespeople promote this study.
youtube
Unfortunately, this old study hasn’t been able to be replicated by anyone else. Further, follow-up studies in 2016 and 2017 reach the opposite conclusions.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
Key results
We found a single, small study of 60 children that evaluated high‐pressure oxygen therapy for ASD.
There was no evidence that high‐pressure oxygen therapy improved social interaction, behavioral problems, speech or language communication, or mental function in children with ASD. However, children who received high‐pressure (hyperbaric) oxygen therapy showed an increased occurrence of ear barotrauma events when compared with those in the control group.
[In other words, it hurt them.]
Quality of the evidence
The quality of the evidence is low. Evidence is insufficient to confirm that high‐pressure oxygen is an effective treatment for individuals with ASD.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for children with autism spectrum disorder
Recommendation
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been approved for treating specific conditions such as decompression sickness. The current absence of conclusive evidence for treatment of autism symptoms has not supported its endorsement for use in treating ASD by the Food and Drug Administration. Further, the Food and Drug Administration has published a warning for parents to beware of false or misleading claims about HBOT for treating autism.21
Conclusion
Currently, there is insufficient evidence to support use of HBOT to treat children with ASD, and its use as a form of treatment is not recommended. More research might reveal specific groups of children who might benefit from such treatment.
In short, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is snake oil.
Snake Oil Sales Tactics
Snake oil treatments rely on the mistrust of consensus opinions. However, they do rely on expert testimony, an interesting dichotomy.
For example, the consensus opinion is that hyperbaric oxygen therapy is snake oil. However, some doctors claim it is not.
youtube
Of course, the snake oil peddlers also claim it’s great, making dubious claims.
How HBOT Helps Autistic Patients
HBOT has been used as an alternative autism treatment, and it has shown positive results. [No. It has not.]
youtube
Even Autism Parenting Magazine gets in on the snake oils sales support.
The bottom line
Multiple studies show that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help to alleviate the symptoms of autism in children and adults. Clinically supervised use of the therapy can potentially improve their cognitive abilities, communication behavior, and fine motor skills by increasing oxygenation circulation and reducing inflammation. However, the evidence supporting the efficiency of HBOT is mixed and anecdotal.
Notice how they contradict themselves in the paragraph above. They claim there are multiple studies and clinically supervised uses that show improvements, which is not true, but they follow with the accurate statement that the evidence is mixed and anecdotal, which means there is no real evidence.
If you are a desperate parent, you will ignore the disclaimer and latch on to the idea that the therapy works—confirmation bias at work.
With so many sources of plausible-sounding bullshit, it’s very difficult to sort fact from sales fiction, which is exactly how the snake oil sales pitch works.
Common Sense
If you are still considering hyperbaric oxygen therapy, you’ve probably convinced yourself that your child is unique, and they may be the one who does respond.
Before you waste tens of thousands of dollars on a submarine torpedo, ask yourself a few questions. Why hasn’t the 2009 study been replicated since? Wouldn’t a truly effective treatment for autism spark a great deal of follow-up research? Why have subsequent studies shown no results? If it were effective even for a small number of children, that would be reflected in the results.
Ask yourself what you expect from the therapy. Are you throwing a “Hail Mary” hoping for a “cure?” If so, I fear you are setting yourself up for a major disappointment.
~~wink~~

Who Are the Top Physiotherapists in Jaipur Offering Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Tumblr media
Are you in search of the top physiotherapists in Jaipur who offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy? Look no further! In this article, we will explore the leading physiotherapists in Jaipur who specialize in providing hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a treatment that can accelerate healing and recovery.
Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber, allowing your body to absorb more oxygen than usual. This increased oxygen flow promotes tissue regeneration, reduces inflammation, and enhances overall well-being.
The benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy are extensive and have been proven effective in various medical conditions. This therapy is known to improve wound healing, enhance post-operative recovery, reduce the effects of radiation therapy, and even aid in neurological rehabilitation. Additionally, it has shown promise in treating conditions such as autism, multiple sclerosis, and sports-related injuries.
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy, also known as physical therapy, is a branch of healthcare that focuses on restoring movement and function to individuals affected by injury, illness, or disability. Physiotherapists are highly trained professionals who utilize a range of techniques to help patients regain strength, flexibility, and mobility.
Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in the success of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Before undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a thorough assessment by a physiotherapist is essential to determine the patient's specific needs and develop a personalized treatment plan. Physiotherapists work in collaboration with hyperbaric oxygen therapy specialists to ensure optimal outcomes for patients.
Role of Physiotherapy in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Physiotherapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy go hand in hand. Physiotherapists play a vital role in maximizing the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy by addressing any underlying musculoskeletal issues, optimizing physical function, and promoting overall well-being.
Before commencing hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a physiotherapist may conduct various assessments to evaluate an individual's strength, range of motion, balance, and functional abilities. Based on the assessment findings, the physiotherapist will develop a tailored treatment plan that may include exercises, manual therapy, and other modalities to address any physical limitations and optimize the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
During hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions, physiotherapists may also provide guidance on proper body positioning, breathing techniques, and exercises to further enhance the therapeutic benefits. Their expertise ensures that patients receive comprehensive care and achieve the best possible outcomes.
Finding the Top Physiotherapists in Jaipur

"That was the thing about lies: they demanded commitment. Once you lied, you had to stick to your story."
What a debut with heavy scenes written by a lawyer.
Miracle Creek is a twisty, layered, and compelling page-turner that takes us inside and outside of a Virginia courtroom to uncover the motive and individual behind a fatal explosion at a small HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy) facility in a rural town.
The characters (many of whom are unlikable) are complex people with flawed personalities who have probable motives due to the withholding of their own secrets, which drives this novel. They all seek a better life in different ways. But at what cost?
The unfolding nearing the last couple of chapters gripped me. I don't read many courtroom dramas. But after reading this one, I def need to change that.
SN: I recommend this book with a caution. Some trigger warnings include treatment towards children with autism, sexual abuse, suicide references, description of burn victims and addiction. So heads up.
