she'd watched him escape the throng of celebrators towards the back of the stage she knew he was set to perform on soon and trailed along after him, excusing herself from the excruciatingly dull conversation she'd been having with one of her former teachers. "lord hyeseong," she called out once she was close enough, eyes trained on his back. "can i speak to you for a moment?"

the sight of the woman across the dining hall made his shoulders tense. when did he become so fragile? had he always been? his sister's laugh rang in his ears and the way she would pull him about through the blood moon festivities every year wedged it's way to the front of his mind. the doubletake he did toward jinah when he caught sight of yunha's hairpin was extremely obvious as he tried to relax his features. it was difficult seeing the object again as it had been her most favored and worn.

two years might not have been as much time as he figured he needed to get around the ache in his chest. yunha brought warmth to house woo like no one ever had, and there would likely be no one to do it again. jinah's demeanor and the way she carried herself put hyeseong in a position to scrape at neatly packed away memories of his sister, and it wasn't anything he enjoyed sorting through.

he excused himself from dinner after he noticed one too many conversations he had completely been zoned out in. hyeseong planned to tuck himself away backstage for a couple more drinks to round himself out before his first performance of the night. he'd only be on stage twice and he didn't always mind dancing, even enjoyed bits and pieces, but his mother was sure to ruin his buzz if seeing yunha's pin hadn't already.

tapping away at the glass in his hands as he zigzagged through the crowd of people gathering around in the gardens. jinah's voice startled him from his daze and he sighed, reluctantly turning to greet her. "princess," he started as the tap of his fingers ceased, forgetting to bow entirely. hyeseong watched her for a moment and nodded, "of course. a moment you shall have."
