you are listening to "you made me love you" on you tube, enjoying the music, its the original al johnson recording. you look on the comments and see someone saying "still enjoying this in march 2024", you scroll down the comments a little more trying to find more substantive engagement, someone wrote "still enjoying this in september 2018". cute. you keep scrolling "still enjoying this in 2013" seems like all the comments were by the same person, they must either be very dedicated to the bit or possibly a little neurodivergent, whatever. "still enjoying this in 2010" "still enjoying this in 2009" "still enjoying this in 2006" you check every date next to the comments, they seem legitimate. seems like you came across one of the earliest videos in youtube, and possibly one of the earliest posters as well, that is kind of impressive. you keep going down. "still enjoying this in 2001!". you stop.
next to the comment it says "23 years ago". there are other comments below it.
"still enjoying this in 1996" "enjoying this in 1983" "enjoying this, 1967" "1955" "1942" "1924", next to every comment there is the appropriate date telling you how far back this was posted.
did someone hack this video? is this a prank by someone in the youtube dev team, is this an easter egg?
you reach 1913, the year the song came out.
"still enjoying this in 1913"
below is another comment
"still enjoying this in 1885"
you keep scrolling down further and further, you skip entire walls of comments.
"feowung þes beinnan 736"
is that old english? would it even make sense to be using the modern christian calendar? you have no idea, you never studied for any of this. surely it would make no sense to start doing...
"hoc tamen fruens anno 458 ante Christum"
ok, this is ridiculous, you just start mindlessly scrolling to the bottom. pressing ctrl+end, letting more comments load and then pressing it again.
finally there are no more comments, but the final one, at the end of the list. you quickly look at the number. for a second you were kind of expecting to see "13.787.000.000 years ago". the big bang.
but no. youtube dates it from "5612 years ago" and it says:
Tumblr media
you dont need to be a genius to see these are hyeroglyphs. you go to google and search frantically for something that can translate from hyeroglyph to english. you struggle a little both due to the lousy state of the search engine and because of your own shaking hands. eventually you manage to paste the symbols on a text box and the translation simply says:
"first!"

Eeee I love your mermen! I love that they don't have a human skin tone and that their upper halves have the same brilliant patterns and colors that seamlessly caery over from their tail, making them look like a cohesive being as opposed to a "half-and-half" with a clear split between humanoid and fish.
I was just wondering about if you have any headcanons about them. Do they live nomadically or do they have underwater settlements? Can they breathe air and survive on land, and how long can they be out of water? Can they get legs and assume a humanoid "land form" or do they permanently have a tail by default? Can they speak human languages?
fgsdfgnsdfgjdfgsdfgksd
First of all, thank you so much for the compliments! (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ I'm glad that you like my mermen art that much :')
I do have a couple of headcanons but I haven't developed a full story or made any character background yet hehehe, although it is something that I would like to do soon! I've always imagined potential storylines with them as main characters :D
Putting that aside, I have a pretty solid idea about their biology and social structure. They behave in a way similar to their fish counterpart (I often use real fish species to create mermen designs); this means that they vary in size, there are predators and preys and they can form shoals/communities or live alone depending on the species. Their sexuality also mimics the patterns of some fish species but they are, in their majority, hermaphrodites or have the hability of change their biological gender depending on the situation.
I guess there could be some small settlements, specially around reef barriers but I picture them having a pretty nomadic life. They cannot breath above the water but they can hold their breaths for a somewhat long period of time, let's say half an hour, it also depends on the physical condition of the merman. They do not have a humanoid form in my universe hahaha! It would be fun tho... I might do some art about it, who knows 🐟
As for their language, they have their own system. It is nothing like any human dialect and it works diferently because... well, water XD. They use mostly echoes and noises. They also write and draw hyeroglyphs :)
I think that summs up everything pretty well! (。・∀・)ノ゙

Three Spear-Masks from Wario Land 4
Well, this was something I did last year in august. I was playing the aforementioned game those days, it's really fun, I really like how colorful its sprites are. And ironic how the game takes inside a pseudo-Mesoamerican pyramid, yet the tutorial level (Hall of Hyeroglyphs, with an awesome song lol) is the only thing related to that. Probably the nature related worlds may count but, it doesn't matter, the backgrounds are incredible
And my favorite thing are the enemies, they're always crazy-looking creatures, they're more cartoonish than the average Mario monsters. The Spear-Masks are pretty cool, and if Nintendo never reveals what Shy Guys look like without their mask, at least you can sleep well knowing that the Spear-Masks' mask is actually their face lel

It's kinda scary though cuz I just thought like. what if RN I think I'm typing in a comprehensible manner but later I look at these posts and they're modern hyeroglyphics (<- word I probably messed up SOOO bad... sowwy...) that would blow an alien's mind. And just the thought of that is SCARYYYY!!!!!!!! I don't think I'll ever get how people drink frequently cuz like I feel nice but also MAN I don't think I could do this often. It's freakyyyyy....... I genuinely hope I'm not coming across as judgemental/pearl-clutching/etc when talking abt this cuz IK how annoying it is to hear both "extremes" (?) talk shit about the other. Like "people who never drink (+etc) are LAME ASS LOSERS that DON'T KNOW HOW TO HAVE FUN and SHOULD BE BULLIED 5EVER" and "people who drink (+etc) frequently are IRRESPONSIBLE DEVIANTS that PUT EVERY PERSON ON EARTH IN DANGER and DO NOT DESERVE TO BE TREATED LIKE PEOPLE" are both really cruel statements/mindsets to have & I don't wanna seem like I think anyone deserves 2 be treated badly/judged harshly for stuff like this. 🆗. I love you🩷

hi how normal are you about tsc?
Hello! I know I seemed pretty normal about it lately, which is completely untrue. I'm sorry I've just been kept incredibly busy with my house renovation project and my masters... and my freshly adopted dog... and with my job.
Truth is though, I lay awake at night going through all the possible scenarios for whats going to happen. I have the twitter app downloaded purely to get notifts for when @korakos posts, and I'm currently drafting the riko rant in modern hyeroglyphics (emojis) as my new shitposts to end all aftg shitposts.
Whats my normal about tsc scale in your opinion? 🤩

reading homestuck for the first time now a days must be such a strange whimsical experience in a sense...
imagine an explorer, an archeologist or a anthropologist, going into the ancient abandoned temple of an age long gone and you find the old sacred texts, the piles of clay tablets, dusty the papyruses covered in spiderwebs. and you can see by the magnificence of the architecture and the golden plating on the statues depicting idols and the richness of the unreadable hyeroglyphs sculped into the walls that this was a powerful culture indeed. a vast civilization now lost to time. and this temple you are traversing was once the hub for scholars and philosopher kings to work and discuss and debate and create knowledge. these vasta halls, once filled with dozens, hundreds of servants and priests bustling to and fro carring volumes and sacrifices and tributes to their gods. now all silent and quiet and abandoned. you, traveler from the future are the sole remaining person here, and it is your the task to read the ancient texts, decodifie the signs, compile and catalogue the scriptes on your lonesome. maybe if you are lucky you will get to ask for help to the eldests of elders in a nearby small village who might still remeber traces of the old knowledge. but they are grave and would rather not share that knowledge, not without the proper warnings before. they carry with them the old tales, they know they were once a big and mighty civilization and they know it was that very same hubris was led it to collapse. are you ready? willing to discover this yourself, traveler, adventurer? to learn the lessons from the past once again?
