Dogs may pee on beds for various reasons, from medical to behavioral problems. It could be a sign of anxiety or stress, significantly if their environment has changed recently. Sometimes, dogs mark their territory by urinating on things that carry their scent, like your mattress.
Sometimes, a dog might have a medical condition, such as a urinary tract infection or diabetes, that causes it to urinate indoors. Age-related issues can also lead to accidents on the bed. Understanding why your dog is peeing on the bed is crucial in addressing the root cause and preventing future incidents.
Observing your dog's behavior and consulting with a veterinarian if you suspect any underlying health issues is essential. By identifying the reason behind this behavior, you can take proactive steps to resolve it and keep your mattress clean and fresh.
Quick Tips for Cleaning Up Fresh Urine Stains
Imagine waking up to find your furry friend has left you a not-so-pleasant surprise on your mattress. It happens, and it's essential to act fast! The key to dealing with fresh urine stains is speed. The longer the mess sits, the harder it will be to remove.
Start by blotting up as much urine as possible using paper towels or a clean cloth. Avoid rubbing the stain, which can spread it further into the mattress fibers. Once you've soaked up what you can, mix a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle.
Spritz the affected area generously with the vinegar solution and let it sit for a few minutes before gently blotting again. Then, sprinkle baking soda over the stain to help absorb any remaining odor. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes before vacuuming it up.

by Brian Shilhavy Editor, Health Impact News
An amazing interview from 2013 with Dr. A. True Ott, PhD, has been republished by a couple of people within the past few days, and I just got done watching it today.
Talk about “truth bombs”, many of those were dropped in this amazing interview, including revealing who really runs the world today and controls both political parties today.
Dr. Ott’s work has been censored in a major way, and fortunately Archive.org is currently operating well enough for me to retrieve Dr. Ott’s full bio from his original blog which has since been scrubbed from the Internet.
A. True Ott, PhD A. True Ott received his Bachelors of Arts degree from Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah in 1982, and went on to receive his Doctor of Philosophy in the field of Nutrition through the American College in Washington DC in 1994. Dr. Ott’s dissertation and research followed the groundbreaking work of Linus Pauling, and asserted via independent research that each mineral on the periodic table of the elements, in its pure hexagonal crystalline form, pulses a specific hertz resonant frequency based on its atomic weight and unique electron configuration. Dr. Ott then measured and graphed the individual resonant frequencies inherent in vitamin and enzyme structures, and independently verified that 23 minerals are the base raw materiel of nutrition and are vitally important in keeping the human cells in a state of balance or homeostatic health. Dr. Ott has been counseling and lecturing on this most basic form of prime nutrition for over 15 years, and founded Mother Earth Minerals, Inc. in 1997. Dr. Ott’s independent research also verified the importance of free electrons in nutritional, water-soluble mineral supplements, as well as ultra-pure drinking water and oxygen molecules.  He developed a patent-pending drinking water product that attaches free electrons to the Hydrogen and Oxygen molecules in ultra-pure, medicinal grade water – making it negatively charged (extra ‘free electrons’) and then introduced it to individuals suffering from chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, etc. Amazingly, the free electrons in Dr. Ott’s water product began to reduce the symptoms associated with chronic disease in a very powerful way. As Dr. Ott declared in a recent symposium: “Society has unfortunately taken water for granted.  When I share my research on water and minerals with others in the allopathic medical community, the typical response is raised eyebrows and mocking derision.  Too often health care professionals, however, forget that the human body is composed of 70% water and 30% minerals – therefore it is simply common sense that pure water combined with pure minerals comprise Mother Earth’s medicine chest for all mammalian life forms! It is not rocket science, only basic nutritional truth!” The author and publisher of dozens of articles and three books on nutrition, Dr. Ott is continually searching for natural solutions and answers to the nation’s chronic health problems, and believes that education is the first step. His latest book, Secret Assassins in Food blows the whistle on common food additives and is a “must-read” in order to understand some of the more toxic food additives and programs! From 1996-2001, Dr. Ott worked with Mr. Warren Anderson to produce the radio program “The Story Behind the Story” at KSUB Radio in Cedar City, Utah and was awarded the prestigious Peabody Award for radio documentary. Rabbit Hole: Fiber and Health
The difference between soluble and insoluble fiber
Soluble and insoluble fibers are both essential components of a healthy diet, particularly for gut health, but they differ in their properties and how they function in the digestive system.
Soluble Fiber:
Dissolves in water to form a gel-like substance.
Fermentable by gut bacteria.
Benefits for Gut Health:
Feeds Gut Bacteria: Acts as a prebiotic, promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut.
Regulates Blood Sugar: Slows down digestion, leading to a more gradual release of glucose into the bloodstream.
Lowers Cholesterol: Binds with bile acids, helping to lower blood cholesterol levels.
Improves Digestion: Softens stool, making it easier to pass and helping to prevent constipation.
Insoluble Fiber:
Does not dissolve in water.
Adds bulk to stool.
Benefits for Gut Health:
Promotes Regularity: Adds bulk to stool and helps it pass more quickly through the intestines, reducing the risk of constipation.
Prevents Diverticulitis: Helps prevent small pouches from forming in the colon, which can become inflamed or infected.
Supports Weight Management: Adds bulk to the diet without adding calories, which can help with feeling full and reducing overall food intake.
What are good common sources of fiber?
Soluble Fiber: Oats, barley, nuts, seeds (e.g., chia seeds, flaxseeds), beans and legumes (e.g., lentils, chickpeas), fruits (e.g., apples, oranges, pears), vegetables (e.g., carrots, Brussels sprouts).
Insoluble Fiber: Whole grains (e.g., whole wheat, brown rice, bulgur), nuts and seeds (e.g., almonds, sunflower seeds), vegetables (e.g., cauliflower, green beans, potatoes with skin), fruits (e.g., apples with skin, berries, bananas), bran (e.g., wheat bran, corn bran).
Do gut bacteria break down fiber to produce beneficial compounds like vitamins? What other beneficial compounds do they produce?
Vitamins
Vitamin K: Certain gut bacteria synthesize vitamin K, which is essential for blood clotting and bone health.
B Vitamins: Some gut bacteria produce B vitamins, such as biotin (B7), folate (B9), and riboflavin (B2), which are crucial for energy metabolism and overall cellular function.
Short-Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs)
Acetate, Propionate, and Butyrate: These SCFAs are produced when gut bacteria ferment soluble fiber. They have numerous health benefits:
Butyrate: Acts as a primary energy source for colon cells, helps maintain the integrity of the gut barrier, and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Propionate: Metabolized in the liver and can help regulate glucose production.
Acetate: Used in various metabolic processes and can influence fat storage and appetite regulation.
Other Beneficial Compounds
Gases: Such as hydrogen, methane, and carbon dioxide, which are normal byproducts of fermentation and usually harmless.
Phenolic Compounds: Fermentation of polyphenols (a type of antioxidant found in fruits and vegetables) by gut bacteria can produce bioactive phenolic compounds with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Conjugated Linoleic Acids (CLAs): Produced from the fermentation of certain fats, CLAs have been shown to have anti-carcinogenic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Health Benefits
Improved Gut Health: SCFAs, particularly butyrate, nourish the cells lining the colon, reducing the risk of gastrointestinal disorders.
Enhanced Immune Function: A healthy gut microbiome can help modulate immune responses, reducing inflammation and protecting against infections.
Metabolic Health: The production of SCFAs can influence metabolic health, helping regulate blood sugar levels and reducing the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Mental Health: There is emerging evidence that SCFAs and other metabolites produced by gut bacteria can influence brain function and mood, potentially impacting conditions like anxiety and depression.
Specific benefits of SCFAs
Digestive Health
Nourishment of Colonocytes: Butyrate serves as the primary energy source for colonocytes (cells lining the colon), promoting a healthy gut lining and reducing the risk of gastrointestinal disorders.
Gut Barrier Function: SCFAs enhance the integrity of the gut barrier, preventing the leakage of harmful substances from the gut into the bloodstream, which can lead to systemic inflammation.
Anti-inflammatory Effects: Butyrate has potent anti-inflammatory properties, helping to reduce inflammation in the gut, which is beneficial for conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Metabolic Health
Blood Sugar Regulation: Propionate can help regulate blood glucose levels by influencing gluconeogenesis (the production of glucose) in the liver.
Lipid Metabolism: Acetate and propionate are involved in lipid metabolism, which can influence cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Appetite Regulation: SCFAs can influence the release of hormones that regulate appetite and satiety, such as peptide YY (PYY) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), potentially aiding in weight management.
Immune Function
Immune Modulation: SCFAs play a role in modulating the immune system by influencing the activity of various immune cells, including T cells and macrophages, which helps maintain immune balance and reduce chronic inflammation.
Anti-carcinogenic Properties: Butyrate has been shown to induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancerous cells in the colon, reducing the risk of colorectal cancer.
Brain Health and Mental Well-being
Neurotransmitter Production: SCFAs can influence the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin, which is involved in mood regulation.
Blood-brain Barrier Integrity: Butyrate can enhance the integrity of the blood-brain barrier, protecting the brain from harmful substances.
Anti-inflammatory Effects on the Brain: By reducing systemic inflammation, SCFAs can help protect against neuroinflammatory conditions, potentially lowering the risk of neurodegenerative diseases.
General Health Benefits
Reduction of Systemic Inflammation: SCFAs help reduce systemic inflammation, which is linked to numerous chronic diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity.
Bone Health: Propionate may have a role in calcium absorption and bone health, although more research is needed in this area.
The above is the result of my curiosity going down the rabbithole with ChatGPT. I post my rabbithole curiosities to this blog.

the actual reality of this is a little more complex. foods can harm you in a lot of ways and they're varied. they include:
certain poisons or diseases from contaminated food can flat-out kill you
others can make you sick for days or weeks
others might make you throw up or have diarrhea and then you're fine a couple days later or even later the same day
rancid oils might never make you sick but they might deplete your body of antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, and E
synthetic trans fats like from partially-hydrogenated oils, or unhealthy saturated fats like in processed meat, might not make you at all sick in the moment, but over time might significantly elevate your heart disease risk and possibly cause heart disease and kill you by heart attack, or other issues like stroke, and the trans fats might also increase your risk of mental illness or cognitive decline, or even cause it on its own
ultraprocessed foods might add a bunch of empty calories to your diet and stress out your body's systems in various ways. they might make you feel off in the moment, or maybe not, maybe you feel fine, but in the long-run they could manifest in a complex of conditions including type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, heart disease, obesity, and high blood pressure.
electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium, you need every day and you can and will die if you have too little of them. you can die of their deficiency in a surprisingly short time-scale too, like drinking too much water without replenishing sodium can kill you on the spot and at lower levels, doing the same thing can land you in the hospital and cause serious damage to your body.
similarly, especially among people who have a genetic tendency to having a harder time ridding the body of salt, and who have high blood pressure, too much salt can also kill you on the spot.
some other vitamins and minerals can be overdosed on, whereas others (like B12) are very hard to eat too much of. it is wildly different based on the specific nutrient.
many vitamins have different forms and some can be overdose on but not others. for example, the active form of vitamin A, retinol, will kill you if you eat too much of it. this is why the livers of large animals like polar bear and whale are not safe to eat. however, vitamin A precursors, or "inactive" forms, such as beta caroteine, are safe to eat...the worst thing that will happen to you is that you will literally turn orange as your body stores lots of it in the fat under your skin, but it's harmless and might even protect your skin from sunburn.
making things further complex, nearly all these factors are influenced by genetic risk factors, and diseases are influenced by gut health, immune system health, and prior exposure, so like, eating the same contaminated food one person might die and another person might not even get sick at all. similarly with the heart disease risk, eating the same "unhealthy" foods like the trans fats or processed meats, one person might never get heart disease and another might die of it quite young.
also, the degree to which you need certain nutrients on a daily vs. longer-term time-scale varies hugely by the ingredient.
vitamin C is water soluble and has a short half-life in the body. it is best to eat some foods high in it at every meal, and certainly important to eat some daily. on the other hand, vitamins A, D, E, and K are all fat-soluble and stored in the body long-term. B12 is not fat-soluble but it is stored in the liver, so you can "binge" all these vitamins and store them long-term. The same goes for omega 3 fats, which can be stored in body tissues. Other vitamins like C and many of the other B vitamins like niacin, you will just pee out if you eat more of them than you need in the moment.
if you want to eat healthy, you can't just think blindly of "healthy foods" vs" unhealthy foods".
you need to think of your body as a system that has a bunch of different needs, and some of those needs you need to take care to keep within a certain range (e.g. electrolytes)...whereas others you just want to eat as much as possible (e.g. B12), still others you just want to eat as little as possible (e.g. processed meats and partially-hydrogenated oils). many of them it's important to eat a certain amount of and additional amounts are wasted (e.g. protein, vitamin C).
and it's also about long-term vs. short-term needs.
for example if you're starving and not eating enough calories and protein, eating a huge Italian sub with all its processed meat is probably better than your body cannibalizing its own muscles to meet your protein needs.
on the other hand, eating such a sub every day will probably kill you of heart disease, especially if you are genetically prone to it.
How people can mistakenly think or just subconsciously feel food works: there are “unhealthy” foods like pizza or fried chicken and “healthy” foods like fruit salad or steamed vegetables. Every time you eat an “unhealthy” food you’ve harmed yourself in some way.
How food actually works: foods contain carbs, proteins, fats, sugars, vitamins, minerals, fiber and/or other nutrients. Your body needs and uses all of them but it would like to have a little of everything every day. If you ate pizza or fried chicken for lunch then that’s probably your fat and protein for the day with extra that your body will make use of in time, so it’s a good idea to make your next meal something different like that fruit salad or steamed veggies. You can have that fatty lunch every single day if you just maintain balance and stay active enough to actually use what you’re stocking up on because foods aren’t “good or bad;” they just either fit into the rest of your diet and lifestyle or they don’t.
