Did a painting today for the first time in a while! One of my favorite Hwi and Seon-ho scenes. (More thoughts on painting process under the cut <3)

The last time I painted a fanart painting I never finished it bc I stalled out on the background. So this time around, I actually painted the background first! The roof was the first part I painted, then the panels in the background, and then finally the people. I think I like this approach bc by the time I get to the people I've loosened up and I'm feeling rougher, less perfectionist. They become just another part of the painting.

The other fun fact about this painting is that since I hadn't painted in so long I had to steal my dad's tiny palette. It only really had room for my base colors (blue, red, two yellows, and white), so as a result I did all my mixing on the canvas. I like doing it that way, though, because I think you end up with some interesting effects, streaks of color here and there instead of more normal flat color.

All in all, from sketch to finish took about three hours. I want to try doing more quick paintings like this--usually I'm a lot more meticulous and layered, but as a result, usually I intimidate myself out of painting at all lols. But I really want to get back into painting more :D
